Thus, with an abomination awoken, Tryll and company continue on.
However, you return home for the day to rest. It's been a long adventure and the party recovers. After rest...
Tryll.
"HWAAAH!" Calleigh shrieks dramatically, falling to the floor.
'Er, yes?' Tryll replies.
I have a task for you and yours, if you are willing.
'Sure. We're not busy.'
Then gather you and yours and come to Celestia. Events move forward.
"Ughhhhhhcelestia fine." Calleigh grouses from the floor.
'We'll make our way. What part?'
Lunia is fine.
'We'll head that way shortly.' Tryll replies, turning to the others, 'Our presence has been requested in Lunia.'
Dana puts a hand on her hip and declares, "Lunia? Now what?"
Miranda sits nearby and looks up, "A mission of some kind?"
Benyen's eating breakfast as he looks up, "Lunia's a fine place to go."
'Someone reached out to me. Presumably a god. Possibly about that thing we found. Possibly about the other thing we were working on. Regardless, it's-'
"TIME TO KICK BUTTS!" Calleigh shouts.
'-Yes, most likely.' Tryll replies.
"Most fuckin' likely," Dana grins, as...
Okay, any prep for this trip?
Tryll & Calleigh are set for now.
Okay, mark off the resource expenditure for gating there or however you make the trip.
The beaches of Lunia are contrasted by the great light from above. As you step out of the waves and to the sandy shores, the radiance of Chronias seems overwhelming.
Yet before your eyes, on the mountain ahead, the sides of the mountain split open to reveal a cavern within. The walls of it shines with the same light as above as you hear the voice once more.
Come forth.
"Innnnnntooooooooo...the MOOOOUUUUNNTAAAAIIINSSSSSSSSSS!" Calleigh sings, off-key, from atop Miranda's head while pointing forward, "Onward, noble steed!"
Meanwhile, Tryll leads the way. 'I didn't know you could get inside the mountains here.'
Miranda glances up but walks ahead without complaint, at last this time.
Benyen follows along, "I've been in a cave in Celestia before, but not like this. Uh, whomever did this is big. Very big."
"Yeah, probably one of the fucking Hebdomad," Dana shrugs, "One of the big archons that run the place."
Ahead is an open chamber, well lit by the light from the wall. A stone table and chairs is here, along with a pitcher and glasses. There's a golden liquid within the pitcher, one that shimmers bright. Ambrosia, if you don't miss your guess.
"Ohhhh snacks!" Calleigh cheers.
'Don't spoil your dinner.' Tryll reminds casually as Calleigh dives off of Miranda's head to grab a glass that's half her size.
Welcome.
Dana pauses at that as everyone looks about. The voice comes from everywhere.
I am Zaphkiel, the seventh of the Hebdomad, and I ask you here for a great mission.
"ohhhhboy it's the big boss angel." Calleigh says, putting the glass back down gingerly.
'Ah, greetings. Er, what can we do for you?' Tryll sounds flustered.
Benyen bows, "Master Zapkiel." Is all he says, perhaps wisely.
Miranda kneels, "Lord of Chronias," she says, head down, "Word of you is even known in Ysgard."
Dana looks on and takes a breath, "...fuck..." she manages before she puts her hands on her hips, "I'm not about to change a d-darn thing about myself!"
There is a presence here. Of light, overwhelming light. Of joy and happiness and rightness and connection and - it lasts only a split second.
Peace. Do not be afraid. Not even you, Dana.
"I'm not f-fucking afraid!" Dana snaps back, looking up. "I'm shaking because I w-want to!" Sure enough, you see her hands shake, visibly so.
You have spilled blood and life in defense of the defenseless. You have looked evil in the face and denied it. Your heart is not a black malice to afraid of me, Dana.
Peace.
At this Dana sits without another word and pours herself a glass of ambrosia. She guns it down without even looking at it.
Refresh yourselves if you will. We have much to discuss, and you will not find a finer refreshment in all of Creation.
Calleigh takes that as permission and eagerly grabs the glass again, shaking it at Tryll meaningfully. The pitcher rises from the table and fills her glass half-full, then resets itself. Calleigh immediately chugs gleefully.
'Thank you for taking the time to meet with us...? How can we be of help?'
The liquid is cool and sweet down Calleigh's throat. It brings to mind better times, happier days. Days of joy, days that seem as real as if you were there again. It brings simple happiness, suffusing her entire form.
I have sponsored you thus far in your growth.
Dana looks up at that, and with a half smile on her face, "No sh-no." A frown that doesn't last, "I mean, how do we make it happen more often? I've been wondering!"
Grow and develop yourselves, as you suspect. That is the key.
A moment where you feel a connection with Dana, sharp and sudden. A strong bond, forged stronger.
Node update, go read.
got it
There is indeed much to discuss, including the purpose of all of this.
'Let's get down to it, then. What's going on?'
"I've wanted to know as well," Miranda agrees.
Yuth, so I know if you're familiar with this or not, have you read the Chronias topic over on the Answer board before?
I'm caught up.
From here words follow. Words of great importance as...
To be clear, for the sake of sparing us about 10-20 pages of recap, Yuth has been caught up on the Chronias topic.
"...fuck us." Dana finally says, sitting back with a hand over her face.
"That's...about it." Miranda trails off lamely, going silent.
"Then we'll simply succeed at this plan," Benyen smiles widely. "We'll go, we'll conquer and we'll come home to a heroes welcome. You put your trust in us, and I won't let you down. It's not what a hero does."
The situation is dire, but your hope is a testament to your spirit, Benyen.
"And plus I've improved my equipment and I'm going to improve it more, so-"
In that moment you feel it. A connection to Benyen, sharp and new.
Node update for Benyen, go read and reply.
Got it.
'Agreed. When failure is not an option, success is inevitable. We simply will not fail.' Tryll concurs with finality.
"Yeah! We can't lose! If we do, all of Creation goes away! That's not good! Creation's where I keep my stuff!" Calleigh interjects, examining her cup.
Calleigh, a moment. Stand up and approach.
"Um? Okay?" Calleigh puts down the cup and steps to the edge of the table. "What'd I do?"
Before Calleigh is the faintest outline of a golden figure. The light from it is nigh overwhelming, as the stones here themselves sing of glory. It is a song of breathtaking beauty as the figure gently takes Calleigh into the palm of his hand.
Child, this will be no easy path. This is not a thing of childhood, but of the harshest terrors of adulthood. You do not wish to promote, nor would you take a divine seed. Yet you are a part of this, and I would not have you face it unprepared.
"Pshh, we'll beat him with the power of coures! There's no way he can stop us!" Calleigh gives the figure a double thumbs up and a great big grin.
With a gentle touch Calleigh feels her mind protected, as if a warm blanket is wrapped around it.
This will shield your mind from the horrors beyond. I aid you all in my ways, this is my gift to you, child.
Calleigh gains the following ability:
Mind Blank (Su)
Calleigh enjoys the benefits of a mind blank spell cast by a 70th level spellcaster. As this is the work of Zaphkiel, this ignores dead magic, antimagic field and similar abilities that would normally interfere with supernatural abilities.
This ability does not interfere with telepathic communications or various psionic abilities Tryll or Calleigh use.
Calleigh reels for a second, then shakes her head rapidly. "That was super weird! But cool! Thanks!"
Calleigh is suddenly back seated, and now the voice is heard again.
What of your own questions to all of this?
'I have a few.' Tryll replies.
Then ask them.
'Let's start with the most interesting to me, then. You said that I was chosen for my unusual nature and my psionics. Can you expound on that? I was under the impression that magic and psionics, while they have their mechanical differences, function largely the same.'
That is true but also not true.
"Eh?" Benyen says slowly.
"Oh, duh, it's about the Weave, isn't it?" Dana pipes up here, and as Miranda turns to give her a skeptical look. "What? You ever try to take a nap when Vul'lath won't shut up with Tepen about some arcane shi...stuff?"
In a real sense, there is no difference between psionics and magic. Both systems work through the Weave in Creation to accomplish the caster's will. Psionics and magic often affect one another as if they were the same because of this, as in Creation they work through the same source, as does everything supernatural.
'So there's a difference outside Creation, then?'
In the Beyond, you have only yourself. The art of psionics is somewhat different than magic because of that, and may operate differently on the many incomprehensible creatures there.
'So because psionics is ultimately an expression of will upon the world around you, it may function in the Beyond?'
All can function in the Beyond. However, yours will make you best suited to particular tasks, including one that I wish to charge you with.
'Oh? Go on, then.' Tryll invites.
I believe that at least one divine seed has fallen into the places between Creation and the Beyond. Places that I would task you to explore and recover these seeds.
'We can certainly do that. I do have a question, though. Io brought up the concept of becoming One to us. Are there any advantages of the divine seed over becoming One and vice-versa?'
There are risks and advantages. To become One is dangerous, but conserves the limited resource of the seeds. One can survive the End of Creation, though you may well eventually succumb to what lies Beyond, or to Ao's wrath should he notice you.
'So no significant betterment. I'd likely be destroyed shortly after Creation should Ao succeed anyway, whether nor not by Ao's hand.'
I have hopes that should the worst come to pass, at least one of you will survive the end. Yet if Ao wishes to target survivors, there is nothing any of us can do to stop it.
'We'll just have to not lose, then.' Tryll replies, 'I have another question, though. In your opinion, how long will we have between the destruction of Shar and the conflict with Ao?'
Once the final battle against Shar begins, there will be no time to turn back. There will be precious little time and time will be of the essence. Once Shar is defeated and the portal to Beyond open, you must hurry forward with all haste and whatever you have left. We can stalemate Ao a time, but we cannot defeat him with you - you are our hope, that you will be the final distraction that will allow us to free the Incarnation of Balance.
"So we have to march into Shadow, kill Shar, storm the Beyond and face down Ao in a suicidal attempt to distract him?" Dana says slowly, then blows out a breath. "Fuuu....uuuu..." She can't even finish it, but groans. "This is even worse than what we had to do to save Lifasa!"
"Shut up, you love the idea and you know it. Imagine your dad's face!" Calleigh says.
"Heh," Dana even smiles at that.
"So..." Miranda speaks up, "What can we do to get stronger and expand ourselves?"
Adventure. Grow. I have left it to the nodes to gather companions and put my trust into them.
Miranda bows her head at that, "Be that as it may, we could use another and I fear with this task we will not have time to find another for some while now."
'Let's not also forget the fact that we have an abomination to kill.' Tryll says. 'We could use a dedicated support, though.'
"We'll have to keep our eyes open," Benyen says, "We may stumble on someone. That should work out, shouldn't it?"
'We found you and Miranda that way, right? Actually, it was technically all Dana...we went looking for a fight because she was bored both times.'
"See, let me go find someone and I'll sort it out," Dana perks up a little bit, "I'll have us a fifth soon."
"We gonna fight! For friendship!" Calleigh cheers.
Anything else to ask here, Yuth, or more along slightly to the next phase of this?
I'm set
The possibility of another is salient. Would you desire to find another before you begin this quest?
'It seems wise, wouldn't you think?'
"So that means we have to fu...I mean, we have to recruit one," Dana says at last. "We got any leads?"
Miranda hms, "Warriors are cheap and common in Ysgard. Finding an exceptional one is not hard. A day, some time and some drinks and I could have a dozen worthwhile leads.""
'Support, not necessarily a front-line fighter. Dana and Benyen fit those slots well. I'm hoping for some sort cleric or something.'
"I will," Miranda agrees.
Return then when you have another ready to join this crusade. Choose wisely.
Then you are back in front of Miranda's house, as if you never left Ysgard.
"Show off!" Calleigh yells at the open air.
'Well, then.' Tryll remarks.
This wasn't explicitly said on your side but it was in the other topic, but I'm going to mention this OOC just to be clear.
Talking about this with others, or even letting others overhear it, is bad. Uppercase B bad. Thus don't talk about it without serious precautions in place. If in doubt about anything, ask me.
"Well," Miranda echos.
"Shit," Dana seconds.
"I have information to gather," Miranda takes to the air, "I'll be back. Enjoy my home until then."
"Byeeeeee I'mma eat your sweets!" Calleigh cheers as she heads for the kitchen.
Going to do anything while Miranda info hunts?
I don't have any ideas. We'll see what she turns up before paying for info from the Silver Consortium or something.
Miranda returns. All of you settle in over dinner - just heated up rations - and she begins.
"I have a few leads," she begins, "As well as one oddity worth reporting, even though she doesn't fit."
'Oddity?'
"A human phoenix," Miranda says, "That thinks she's a bird. It's..." A broad shrug of her shoulders. "The stories are remarkable."
'I...what? You have my attention. What's her deal?'
"I'm not sure, but she smites evil as she sees it," Miranda explains, "No sign of her being a supporter, and that part of her abilities is already handled by Benyen. As far as being a phoenix, I hear that's true."
'I suppose we could at least meet with her? She sounds interesting, if nothing else.' Tryll hedges.
"She's an option, but there's others," Miranda goes on.
"Suniel, unrelated to Sune, but a solar of great skill who is wandering Ysgard right now," Miranda goes on. "A skilled woodsman. Baryll, a formerly mortal champion who oversees the Red and Red clashes. Good sharp mind for leading."
'I see. Anyone else?'
"Those are the main three," Miranda says, "Any other questions?"
'That solar, you said he's a woodsman? Is he a bow and arrow type like yourself, or more of a druidic magic type?'
"He prefers a blade in his hand," Is the answer, "He's not an archer at all to my knowledge, beyond the skill all solars have."
'A front-linesman then?'
"Yes," Is the answer from Miranda. "In essence. Baryll is more of a lead from the back type, to bellow commands and mostly stay out of direct combat, but he's good at it."
Calleigh shakes her head for Tryll. 'Likely solid, but we already have two melee fighters. We seem to have a bad habit of trudging through caves and old ruins. While Calleigh and I can ignore most walls, you and the others cannot. I'd like someone available to reinforce you, or dole out healing magic. Tell me more about Baryll then.'
Calleigh makes a face. "His name sounds like yours and I'm not sure I like it."
"He's strong and a commander," Miranda goes on, "One of those people that's built like a mountain."
'How's his personality? Do you think he'd fit in with us?'
"Stern," Miranda goes on, "Doesn't really brook idiocy or disrespect. He values being respected a great deal."
Dana hms, "So not a great choice?"
Benyen shakes his head, "I think he'd be fine."
"It's that, the solar or a bird," Miranda says, "We can meet them without committing, see how it is in reality."
"But idiocy and disrespect are our greatest weapons!" Calleigh complains.
"As I said, meet people and decide," Miranda says, "Rather than circling around doing nothing considering it."
Testy, testy!
'We can meet with him, but it already sounds like his personality might clash with mine or Calleigh's. Let's start with the girl who wants to be a bird.'
"I have an idea of where she is," Miranda agrees, "We can leave when we're ready."
Any prep for this?
Naw
'Let's go then.'
It turns out where she's around is a mountain peak. The air is thin here as you appear on a cliffside. A log cabin is built into the side, even though there's no trees this high up. "They've been seeing her in there," Miranda says, "She has a nest somewhere near the peak. It's Ysgard, so don't worry about killing blows if you need to fight."
Benyen looks about before, "And what's in the cabin?"
"One part lodge, one part tavern, one part in and another part tavern, along with some shopping," Miranda waves it off, "Nothing important to this, I know the owners."
'Aren't lodges and inns the same thing?' Tryll wonders. 'Would that make it an inn & tavern? With a gift shop?'
"Not quite, but never mind it," Miranda takes to the air. "Eyes open, aerial predators are common around these peaks."
Dana grins at that and readies her rapier.
Give me a Perception check as well as a d100.

The others will take 10 on Perception.
You fly up a time - it's peaceful enough, no interference. Thin air indeed - but it's not far until you hear it from far above. The cry of a great bird, loud and powerful.
"There!" Dana points towards a sub-peak of the mountain. Perched atop it you see a beautiful woman with long red hair and pale skin, beautiful and pristine. Despite where she is, she looks like she's freshly bathed. Bird cries come from her open mouth as she perches atop the peak. She wears a ragged tunic and torn pants, little more than shorts at this point. You don't see a weapon on her, or any jewelry or obvious magical items.
'Oh my she really does think she's a bird.' Tryll says to the group.
"HI BIRD LADY!" Calleigh shouts, waving.
The red haired woman looks down and tweets out birdsong, cheery and chirpy.
"Courre," she calls, "Hello there!"
'Yeaaaaah we're not dealing with a full deck here,' Dana drawls.
'At least it's not a deck of many things! Those things are SPOOKY!' Calleigh replies. Out loud, "We came to visit!"
With a squawk the bird-woman flies down. No wings yet she flies easily, coming a stable stop just before all of you. "Oh, are you heroes that seek the healing power of a phoenix?"
"Ya-huh! We're looking for someone to help us out on our team! We gotta kick an abomination's butt. Diggy whirlwind thing. Likes blood. It's gotta go." Calleigh nodnods.
"You need a phoenix for that?" The woman asks, as Benyen nods.
"It would be helpful," He offers, smiling, "Are you interested?"
Miranda also inclines her head forward. "We need to do an awful lot of smiting in the days ahead."
Calleigh flies up to the woman, "We were really hoping for a supporter, but if you can heal and bash devils and demons Shar worshipers and whatever we're hunting I don't even know how to describe it vampire wind that turns into a giant drill what even I don't know but YEAH! WANNA FIGHT BAD GUYS!?"
A consideration, "Do they hurt birds?" Is the answer back, "Do they do anything like that?"
"They're evil so...probably?" Calleigh guesses.
A pause. The woman goes still and peers down, "Hold on," she declares, suddenly diving down sharply and fast.
'She's very bird-centric.' Tryll remarks.
"You fucking think?" Dana says as she descends down after her.
"Well, she seems nice," Miranda agrees, "She's hardly a savage."
Meanwhile you see her descend down to a mountain river. She pounces - and somehow her feet snare and snatch a wriggling, large fish. She holds it between her feet as she flies back up, "My catch," She declares, tossing it up into her arms and holding it. "Mine."
Dana stares.
Benyen whistles low, "That's a great fishing technique. I wonder if I could do that? It looks more interesting than a rod and bait, or a net."
"How'd you do that with human feet?" Calleigh asks, fascinated.
"The fuck." Dana finally gets out.
Once the fish goes still, the woman has a bite of it and then another. "I'm not a human, I'm a phoenix, that's how."
"But I've met phoenixeses and they look more...birdy. And also on fire. You look pretty humany. Not that I don't suppose you can't be a phoenix because we've definitely seen weirder stuff. Dana dated a TROLL. Benyen beat up a dragon in the air! Without flight!"
The fish is devoured fast, the remnants tossed away. "I am a bird," the woman insists, as flames burst around her. Hot flames, sizzling in the air. "I am a beautiful phoenix!"
"Well, you're on fire at least." Calleigh concedes, looking at Miranda questioningly.
Miranda returns that look, "Of course, the most famous property of a phoenix is self resurrection."
"I've done that," The woman agrees, "Rise from the ashes and everything."
"Off of Ysgard?"
A trill of birdsong is your answer. "Yes!"
Calleigh nods slowly. "On a scale of Nope to Awesome, how comfortable are you with giant friendly floating psychic squid monsters?"
"A squid?" The bird woman considers, "That seems okay?"
'What's everyone thinking so far? Besides Calleigh. I know what you're thinking.' Tryll asks the group. Calleigh pouts.
'The fuck.' Dana repeats herself, flatly.
'I like her,' Benyen says, 'She's quite good at catching things.'
'I...believe she's at least competent in battle if that display meant anything,' Miranda sends back.
'She's apparently an immortal phoenix that somehow got stuffed into a human body, then. Honestly, the novelty appeals and immortality is a strong force multiplier. Dana, what are your real concerns?'
'Ah fuck, I don't fucking know, this is so far weird that do we really want this shit?' Dana asks.
'It's not prohibitively weird. I mean, we're all a bit weird. I'd be concerned if she had to do something like lug around a bathtub full of tomato juice everywhere she went or something. She's a bit feral, I think, but I don't know if it would necessarily interfere. Do you have other misgivings?'
'Do we need another paladin?' Dana challenges.
'A fair point, though I'm not looking to replace anyone.' Tryll says, 'Thus was my desire for someone off the front lines. You and Benyen do fine work and I've no complaints. Perhaps she wouldn't make a good fit after all?'
'Exactly,' Dana agrees. 'See?'
Meanwhile Miranda looks on, 'Still, a phoenix...'
'A phoenix, yes, but also a paladin. Unless she's willing to undergo psychic reformation, which is doubtful considering her personality, she won't fit well. We've already got a paladin in Benyen. Unless she brings something fresh and new to the table, I don't think it'd work.'
'Phoenixes revive if slain,' Miranda says, 'That's the biggest gift they have, along with some healing magic if I remember.'
'Healing magic IS what we're after. Hmm. Benyen. You're our resident paladin. What are your concerns?'
'I like her, even if she thinks she's a bird,' Benyen notes, 'Dana, are you jealous?'
'What? Fuck no! Why would I be jealous of her burned, bony ass?' Dana growls in your minds.
'She has a gift any warrior would die to have,' Benyen points out, 'Plus her wrath of being slain burns everyone away when she returns. You'd like that.'
Dana's glare is hot as a phoenix's fires, but she growls, 'Fucking fine, you have a point.'
'Besides, she lacks your uniquely charming personality.' Tryll adds. 'Honestly, I'm interested in the novelty of some devil or something killing her, only for her to explode in its face and stab it in the eye.'
'Fine,' Dana finally says, 'At least she'll fucking explode.'
'We'll give her a trial run, yes? If we don't like her for it, we can part ways. If she's even interested in joining. We haven't actually asked yet. Speaking of,' Tryll focuses on the birdgirl, 'Hello, I am Tryll, aforementioned giant flying invisible squid monster. Would you be interested in joining us for a trial run?'
'Do you harm or hunt birds?' Is her answer, into your mind.
'Only if they're evil, I suppose. I've never really had cause to harm a bird. Calleigh?'
"Once there was this bighuge" 'oh this one' "bird thing that was eating people and it was real nastymean and liked hunting people for sport so we hadta killit. BUT! We weren't mean about it!"
You get eyed before the woman adds, "Then I'll protect the birds that we come across."
'Alright then. Would you like to help us hunt down an escaped abomination?' Tryll asks.
"As long as it's my catch if I catch it," The woman says, "My catch," A possessive note at the end.
'Sharing is a bit of a rule amongst us. Strengthens us all instead of the one.'
"But it's my catch!" The woman protests, face disturbed, "My catch!"
'I'm not talking about fish.' Tryll says.
A pause at that, "Then what are you talking about?"
'Loot, mostly. Treasure, weapons, money. That sort of thing.'
"Oh." The bird-woman hms, "As long as I get some shiny things for my nest, it's fine. Treasure isn't important."
"Like hell," Dana mutters to herself.
'Debatable, but yes. Food is often shared, too, though if you wish to hunt your own you are free to do so.'
"I'll go then," The woman agrees at last, "I'm Jayne."
"Hi Jayne! I'm Calleigh!" Calleigh greets enthusiastically.
"Hi," Jayne trills, a few notes of pretty bird song. "So where is your nest?"
She's something like a phoenix 35//paladin of freedom 35 pending any PrCs, but my gutshot is that she keeps to pure paladin. I'll write her up tonight.
Calleigh turns to Miranda, "Are we officially living in your house yet, or would you consider us squatters?"
Miranda shakes her head, "You're fortunate I have no need for rent," she says, but there's no heat in her words.
"We could pay you! Do you accept sticks and pretty rocks?"
Amid the banter, all of you...
Next move?
We should REALLY track down that thing before it gets loose from Pandemonium.
Assuming it's not already far gone. You also have another task, remember.
Up to you. What are you gonna do and how do you plan to do it?
Wasn't that task "adventure?"
That too. Growth is important but you do have options. If you want to go abomination hunting, well and good.
What was the other thing? Or was it to bring our recruit to him once we're settled?
The entire task with finding divine seeds once you expanded your node a bit, as it came up there.
Oh right, that. Yes. Let's do the trial run thing. We'll head to Pandemonium and see if I can't figure out where it went.
Cool, any prep?
Meanwhile as you get back to Miranda's and quickly prepare for at rip out, your new companion flies about. "It's a good nest," she declares, up on the roof. She then dives into the house and soon comes back with quilts and blankets of all things, as you hear Dana cry, "The fuck are you taking those for?!"
Jayne sorts them on the roof, laying them out and perching amid them. "They're for my nest," she calls back down.
'Jayne, don't take things that belong to others without their permission.' Tryll says absently while coordinating supplies with Miranda, 'It's impolite and could be stealing.'
"Fuck yes it is," Dana shouts back.
To that Jayne twitters a bit and gathers them back up, "Fine," she says, as Miranda calls, "I have some old ones you can use over here.."
'I wonder if this is what having children is like.' Tryll sends privately to Miranda.
'Does she honestly think she's a bird?' Miranda sends back, 'I have so many questions.'
'She's a immortal bird made out of fire trapped in a human body. Probably.'
Miranda shakes her head but adds nothing as...
Ready to move on after a short avian interlude?
'Jayne? Do you have any unique or individual needs for travel?'
Jayne looks down. "Oh no, I have my holy symbol and that's all I need," Jayne tweets back at you.
'Delightful.'
Yep, let's-a go
Okay, where in Pandemonium are you aiming for?
Where we last left from. Should give me a chance to use Examine Astral Reverberations

Clairsentience
Level: Psion/wilder 9
Display: Mental and visual
Manifesting Time: 1 minute
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Instantaneous
Power Points: 17
This power taps information stored in the astral, such as a creature's movements or location, if that creature or object fails a Will save. This power shows the movements of said creature and all of their actions taken within the last week, as well as who and what they interacted with.
This power does not work on any plane that is not connected in some way to the astral plane. This power only functions on creatures and objects with an astral presence; a mind. Inert, non-magical objects such as walls or non-thinking creatures such as non-intelligent oozes and mindless undead are invisible to this power.
Augment
If an additional 5 power points are spent, the power also attempts to postulate a likely future outcome. This provides a benefit similar to that of a divination, but less cryptic. Any information conveyed would concern one single action or possible action regarding that creature, and the question must be phrased to outline the direction for the power to take. Information conveyed can be contained in no more than one single sentence.
If an additional 10 power points are spent, the manifestor may make an opposed caster level check to reveal information about a target that has or had an active mind blank spell.
For every 2 power points spent in either of the above augmentations, the power's DC increases by 1.
PP Spent: 32

It's too strong - whatever it is, it's just too strong.
"Well crud." Calleigh says.
'I should have expected an abomination to be difficult to track.' Tryll sighs.
Jayne flutters about as little as she can here, while meanwhile Miranda shakes her her head. "Cowardly thing ran and knew how to hide well enough. Do we have another option, or is it time to seek favors from those who see far beyond us?"
'The latter, I think. Brightwater or Aurora?'
"Aurora," Dana says, "We can go to Brightwater if they all limp dick out." She glances about, "C'mon, let's get out of here."
"Sure," Benyen agrees, "One den of evil is enough for today."
'Anyone know where they're homing lately?'
"We can find out," Miranda agrees, as...
It turns out it's Bytopia. That's new. Nonetheless you head on over and reach Aurora. However, you find a familiar face awaiting you - Balyss, in casual clothing. A tunic and very light armor, pants as well. The holy symbol of Selune hangs from her neck. "Tryll," she calls, "I've been waiting for you. Orders from the moon."
'Oh? Has she finally succumbed to my squiddish charms?'
"She wishes to advise heroes of Aurora who face a difficult task ahead," Balyss retorts.
"About damn time," Dana grunts, as Miranda heads inside.
Jayne, you notice, has her gaze upward, focused on something high above. It looks like Arrel, in flight around Aurora's towers.
Calleigh launches herself from Miranda's head to flit around Jayne, nattering on about Arrel and how he doesn't know if he's a dragon or a bird.
'Alright, then. Maybe someday. What's she got for us?' Tryll asks.
At this Jayne lets out a loud birdcry of sheer challenge. Balyss stops and watches as Arrel does the same above. She jets up into the air and flies around Arrel, screeching away. After several moments Arrel's shock turns into anger, the two making quite the ruckus.
"And your plumage is dull!" Jayne snaps out, turning away and flying back down.
'Human-shaped phoenix.' Tryll sends to Balyss, by way of explanation.
"Oh." Balyss says at last, "I'll just take your word for it."
Jayne flutters right over, "That rude bird, can you believe that?" she asks.
Miranda asks, "What did he do wrong?"
"Yeah, I don't speak bird." Calleigh pipes in.
'Anyway, what orders do you have?' Tryll asks Balyss.
"Oh, I'll teach you," Jayne offers Calleigh.
Meanwhile Balyss turns away, "Selune offers her aid in tracking down what you freed."
'Oh, that's nice of her. We'd really like to either kill it or put it back in a box.'
"It's fled to the Quasi Elemental Plane of Lightning," Balyss offers to you.
'Well that's...why?'
"I don't know," Balyss says, "I really don't."
"Lightning? Well shit, here I am being a lightning rod," Dana drawls, "That'll go fucking great."
"We can do this!" Calleigh cheers, suddenly brandishing a wand like a staff.
"That'll require some planning," Miranda says, "Is there anything else?"
"Unfortunately not," Balyss says, "Prepare yourselves carefully and do your research."
'Thank you, Balyss. Can we avail ourselves of the Aurora's resources while we're here?'
"I don't see why not?" Balyss offers, "I'm here to give you this, not run Aurora."
'Perfect.' Tryll says to all, 'Shall we?'
Okay, what of Aurora's services do you want to use here?
The girls were interested in lightning resistance, and Aurora's got some of the finest smiths for whatever they could want.
Okay, do you have any particular purchases in mind here?
None for myself at this time.
Okay, anything else here? I'll figure out purchases after session since it's not immediately critical.
I'm good
Next move then?
We will gate to the plane of lightning after Calleigh uses Attune Form on everyone who needs it.
Any other boosts for spoiler blocks?

Alrighty then.
Storms.
The portal opens and you see a raging storm ahead. Wind and thunder, lightning and rain. As if you are to go into the heart of a furious tempest.
"I didn't think it would be so...wet." Calleigh grumps.
Dana flies through fearlessly, as does Miranda.
Jayne eyes it before she goes, "This is nest weather," she murmurs. "Nest weather!"
"Are you kidding? I've had some great fights in the storms. Let me tell you about the time with the storm giant, the storm elemental and the lightning rods," Benyen goes on.
"You would!" objects Calleigh from Miranda's shoulder, "Is this whole place like this!?"
Tryll silently keeps pace with Dana and Miranda, not at all perturbed.
"What did you expect?" Dana calls back as you fly in.
What's your plan here?
"Lightning! Not wind or rain! It should be pretty, not this gross storm stuff!" Calleigh shouts to be heard.
We're gonna go for the reverberations thing again. If not, see if we can't divine someone who's seen something.
Examine Astral Reverberations

Seek the Hermit of the Lightning Tower.
'Got a lead. The Hermit of the Lightning Tower.' Tryll says.
Shouting over the storm, "Great, so how the fuck do we get there?!"
Jayne flies about and around the party, cawing like a crow in defiance to the thunder.
K:P[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+53 : 19 + 53, total 72[/blockquote]
It's a tower deeper in the plane, amid an eternal storm. It's tough to get there - most teleport rather than do it the hard way, as the locals are not friendly.
Can I manage the teleport?
Assuming you can cast greater teleport or manifest something similar, I don't see why not. The terrain is worth a concentration check but you're very high level so that's not a problem.
Then we shall do so. Can I take 10?
You can't fail the check so it hardly matters. Go ahead and use whatever power you're using.
Greater Teleport
The storms rage - but not here. You stand in a slightly damp and scorched room, as all of you drip, drip, drip from the storm. Distantly you can hear wind and rain, peals of thunder as well. But you're inside, out of the wrath.
Sitting on a wooden chair is a red skinned half orc, heat emanating from his body like a cookfire. He's snoring lightly and only stirs a moment after you appear. He yawns widely, "Eh? Oh, visitors."
"Hello!" Calleigh cheers with drippy happiness.
Jayne peers at him as Dana does the same, "Okay, and what the fuck are you?"
"Martin," The half orc answers after a moment, sleepy gaze on the party. "You come here for a reason? There's usually one, otherwise no one ever comes here."
"We're looking for a big mean windy drilly abominationy guy! Likes to pull out people's blood!" Calleigh says helpfully.
A pause before, "Go all the way to the top of the tower," he says, "Don't go poking anywhere else, go up until you can't go up anymore."
Calleigh salutes! "Up we go!"
It's a spiral stairway in the center of the tower, leading you on and upwards. Atop it sits a single door, on which a sign is hung.
"Sage Questions and Wise Answers."
'...I feel like we're suddenly back in Brightwater.' remarks Tryll.
"Whatever!" Calleigh retorts, "You just wish you had a door like this."
"It's at the top of the tower, it has to be the best," Jayne chirps in. "It's the best place to nest."
"It usually does work that way," Benyen agrees, "Especially with big towers."
"Is there a princess in the tower? Like in the stories?" Calleigh asks, then turns to the door and yells, "Hey! Open up! Give us your princesses!"
The door cracks open, "There are no princesses here," A gruff voice demands.
Tryll pushes the door open!
Inside is a comfortable, cozy room. Fire place lit, glass windows showing the storm outside. A table with a fresh loaf of bread and a pot of tea. Here sits a...
Do any of you have true seeing or unusual senses?
Not currently. It's too expensive to maintain over long distances.
A rather gnarled and unremarkable old man is here, wearing a rough, homespun robe. He gestures you in, "You're very lost if you've ended up here," he greets. "Come in."
"You don't want to be a princess?" Calleigh asks as the group moves in.
"I'm a bird princess, as far as I want to be," Jayne chirps back.
Dana rolls her eyes, "Trust me, it's fucking overrated."
Miranda follows along, "Hello, sir."
"So here you are. Introductions?" The old man asks.
"Wind Princess Calleigh Summerbreeze!" Calleigh cheers.
'Tryll.'
As greetings go around, "I am Parsel," he greets, "An old man of no importance. Tell me why you are here."
'We're looking for an escaped abomination. It appears as a creature made of wind, but it can drill through solid rock and drains the blood of those around itself.'
"...what a strange thing to look for here," Is the answer at last, "Whyever would it be here?
"Because we fought it and it got away and we did the divination dance and we know it's here and it said to ask you so now we're here so you gotta tell us because not telling us would be super mean!" Calleigh pipes in.
The old man sits back now, "That and we're from the motherfucking Aurora, that's what." Dana declares, stepping forward. "Got a problem with that?"
Miranda merely states mildly, "You can tell with a look we are no mere children. Think carefully."
Jayne trills rather loudly at that, going into birdsong after.
"Yes, you are adventurers," the old man concludes. "Disparate, weird and altogether more trouble than you're worth to put up with. I may have heard something about what you seek."
'Oh?'
"Yes, but information costs," The old man says, "I trust that isn't a problem?"
'Depends on what you want as payment.'
"That part is easy. Gold. A great many gold coins," The old man says, "Is anything as pretty as gold?"
"Birds," Jayne says immediately, to which Dana blows out a silent sigh.
"Ahem, how much?" Miranda cuts in before anyone can say anything else, and the old man turns his gaze away from Jayne to her.
"5,000 will do." Is his answer, smoothing himself over.
A modest bag of coins dangles under Calleigh. "This is heavyyyyyy!"
"That means you have enough money," The old man says, eyeing the bag. He takes it and counts the coins - and once he's confirmed it's all there? "I've heard of that creature recently. It may not still be there, but try The Lost Thunder Capitol."
Post the expense in loot.
"Thanks for the thinky bits!" Calleigh replies.
"Then we have a location," Dana agrees, "Or at least a lead. ..we know what the hell that place is?"

Tryll recalls it's said to be a lost building, said to have once been a senate for a group of storm elementals who tried to take over the plane. It's said they failed in the end but the building survived in some form or another, cursed and broken.
'Oh, just some cursed government building. I know where it is. Sort of.'
Jayne perks up at that, "Well, that sounds manageable."
"It won't be," Miranda retorts, "I have no doubts that it will manage to be completely unmanageable."
"So...a normal day out for us, then?" Calleigh ventures.
"Normal day," Benyen agrees, "Shall we get going? We have monsters to smite."
Any prep for this?

So noted for your prep. How are y'all getting there?
Greater Teleport
The Lost Thunder Capitol.
Thunder and lightning.
Storms rage around the party as you appear on a stone platform. Winds and rain slam down, chunks of hail in the mix as well. Constantly flashes of lightning illuminate everything here. The stone platform floats in the air, a narrow, crumbling walkway connecting it to a large, domed building ahead. The walkway has a few stone soldier statues still on it, half gone but intact enough to tell what they are.
"THE HAIL REALLY ADDS TO THE AMBIANCE OF THE PLACE!" Calleigh yells over the din.
"NO FUCKING SHIT!" Dana shouts as she holds her shield above her head, hail bouncing off of it. "IT'S LIKE A GIANT GO THE FUCK AWAY SIGN!"
"IT COULD BE WORSE," Jayne calls as she's clobbered, bruises mending instantly. "IT COULD BE RAINING ACID!"
Benyen hurries along towards the walkway as he calls, "THAT IS WORSE, I SHOULD TELL YOU ABOUT THE TIME WITH THE ACID MAGES!"
'I don't know what you're all talking about. It seems fine.' Tryll says, entirely unfazed as he proceeds forward toward the structure.

It is a blow that only chips the statue at best, struggling to cut stone as she keeps her footwork up. At her side, the walkway creaking amid the storms, tiny chips of stone falling away from it, Dana advances on and joins her, the two side by side and taking up all the space there is ahead, engaging the same statue.

The statue is battered and burnt. Jayne picks it up with her feet and carries it back behind the line, dropping it down. It's not moving anymore, only one left. Jayne perches atop it and pecks down, as if pressing her face against it is effective.
Storm is up.
Meanwhile the storm continues to rage - but lightning is still ineffective against the party as...
Calleigh.
Calleigh swoops in and smacks Dana on the shoulder with a wand! "Heroism! Go gettum!" Heroism charge expended.
"Oh, all the hells with it," Miranda drops her sword as she swears, simply shoving the statue over the side.

'That was anti-climactic. Let's look around, then.' Tryll says.
Nods amid the storm as the party hurries on and...
Quick perception check.
Tryll[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+48 : 13 + 48, total 61[/blockquote]Calleigh[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+41 : 3 + 41, total 44[/blockquote]
Like this the party reaches the ruined dome. There's two doors in - the first are grand doors shut against the storm, and the second isn't really a door - just a rend in the wall near the side, where you could go in if you like.
Tryll takes option 3 and phases through the wall.
I don't need precise details here with how ti's laid out, but are you aiming closer to the rend in the wall or the doors?
Rend
You slip in. Ahead lies an open dome, a vast space. Here circular levels of chairs and long tables can be seen, from the broad outermost circle atop to a small circle at the bottom with but a single throne. It is quiet here, no sign of immediate distress or trouble. The walls are cracked and crumbling, the chairs old and forgotten. The tables are dusty and the crash of thunder from outside is muted by constant.
'No immediate signs of danger, come on in.'
The party follows.
"It's ruined," Benyen says simply, and then, "More than I'd expect. Forgotten."
"Even as a safe place you'd expect it would be used by travelers more often," Miranda says, going to a table and running her finger through the thick dust there. "But it looks like no soul has been here in centuries."
'I'd assume the living statuary would discourage most travelers.' Tryll replies.
"They weren't that bad," Miranda disagrees, "And it's better to risk them than the storm."
Jayne flies about the room, peering down. "It's really empty," she says, "I don't see anything at all."
"I'm sensing a conspicuous lack of abomination." Calleigh asserts.
"So far," Dana agrees, "So where the fuck here is it?"
"There's more to explore," Miranda offers, starting to go ahead, "Why don't we look around?"
Search/perception check or what?
Perception's good if you wanna look around, sure.
Tryll[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+48 : 8 + 48, total 56[/blockquote]Calleigh[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+41 : 4 + 41, total 45[/blockquote]
There's several doors that lead further into the building, as well as gaps you could explore as well. Lots of options here.
Nothing in this room, however. Whatever this room once was, it's nothing but a forgotten memory now.
'Shall-' "OHHH LET'S EXPLORE!" Calleigh squeals, zipping off into a nearby gap.
'..let's not split the party, yes?' Tryll floats after her.
"Yeah, sure," Dana shakes her head as you follow.
Ahead is a series of half crumbled halls. Forgotten and ancient, they lead to nowhere but dead ends and collapses - save one, the last, which you find has an intact door.
"Ohhh, a door! Why do you think a storm elemental would want a door?"
"Good question," Benyen murmurs.
"Might be a trick to it," Dana says, after giving it a casual kick. "Locked, too."

Calleigh knocks on the door, "ANYONE HOME??"
No response, perhaps predictably.
Tryll phases through the door to peek inside!
Ow! It's like solid stone to Tryll, he can't phase through it at all.
After briefly flattening his face against the door, 'Well that's rather rude.' and disintegrates the door.
The door...does not disintegrate. Huh.
Tryll disintegrates the wall!
The wall next to the door is gone, revealing nothing but more stone ahead.
so...just a little bit of the wall is gone or there's an entrance?
A hunk of the wall is gone, but only more stone is beyond it. The door is intact.
Detect psionics is manifested!
The door is a door that opens up into what looks to be a pocket plane - a demi plane in other words. The magic is intact and strong, and is defended enough to be nigh indestructible.
'Oh, it's not a door. Well, it is, but not to a normal room. It looks like the entrance to a pocket dimension.' Tryll remarks, examining it closely.
Any way to figure out how to open it here?
Beyond unlocking it? A check shows the lock isn't magical.
'Anyone know how to pick a lock?' Tryll asks.
'No,' Jayne declares, 'Doors are for breaking down and taking to the nest.'
Miranda glances sidelong at Jayne, 'You take doors to your nest?'
'Howzat work?' Calleigh asks, her arm halfway into the door's lock and her tongue pinched between her teeth in concentration.
Trying Disable Device, Calleigh?
Jayne nods before, "Of course. Nests need treasure and interesting things. Shiny things are best."
Untrained, yes. Note that she has no training so she's really just flailing at this point. [blockquote]Rolled 1d20+2 : 10 + 2, total 12[/blockquote]
Calleigh is about as effective as a wet sock is at keeping your feet dry.
Calleigh stuffs half a tiny wand into the lock and tries that instead.
Shatter on the lock's internals.
There's a loud crunching noise as the lock is torn apart from within.
'Got it!' Calleigh cheers over the conversation.
"Well, open the damn thing." Dana kicks the door - which does not open in the slightest.
Benyen goes and pushes it, "It's jammed, hold on."
Taking 10.
A shoulder check and another, and the door pops open.
Immediately a howling, sucking wind pulls at the party, as if to drag you in to the doorway.
Str check all. Etherealness gets you off the hook.

You hurtle through the winds. Winds that tear at you, ghostly or not. A storm that is endless as you're pulled - and Tryll sees one of his ioun stones torn away. His Pale Green Prism Ioun Stone is lost into the storm, cast away from him. Calleigh has the same happen with another item is lost - one of her feather tokens, a tree, is torn away from her grasp and tossed into the storm.
A moment later the winds carry you away and the party lands with at hump on something solid, as pouring rains soak them from above.
'Well that's frustrating.' Tryll remarks as he watches the gem fly off into the distance.
Meanwhile, "MY FEATHERS!" Calleigh shrieks.
Jayne gets up and shakes herself off. You stand on a stone platform in a raging storm, lightning in the distance and rain pouring down.
So really about the same as the rest of this plane.
However, in flashes of lighting you can see something far ahead. Some sort of building.
'Let's just get inside.' Tryll grumbles while Calleigh is yelling at the wind to give back her feather token.
"We didn't lose anything," Miranda shouts over the wind, "COME ON!"
Strength checks all. Freedom of movement or similar negates the need for a check.

You run ahead as the storms rage. Vicious storms but Tryll goes through them safely. However, Miranda does not. She's cast off the path, struggling to fly up and catch up. As she does, you see it ahead. A castle of lightning scorched stone, the front gate right ahead.
Miranda's with us?
She was blown off and is trying to get back.
How far off is she?
About 50ft away as of now.
Dimension Swap
Calleigh swaps places with Miranda using the POWER OF BRAIN MATTER. Then she turns incorporeal and hurries back to the group.
Miranda nods and hurries along as the storm rages.
Calleigh freely joins thr group, unaffected by the winds. "We ready?"
"Ready," Jayne shouts over the wind, "Let's hurry inside!"
The others take that and rush onward, dealing with the storm.
Tryll & Calleigh keep pace, both incorporeal now.
You rush in. Here the storm stops, a respite at last. An inner courtyard, dry and windless. Your party all takes a moment to breath as you look around - it's large and has statues of knights in it, intact and with blades that crackle with lightning.
"Any bets that they're gonna burst into life? Anyone?" Calleigh asks.
"No bet," Dana says right away, as Jayne perks up.
"Want me to snatch them?" Jayne asks, "Take care of it before they can do anything?"
'Dana? Want to fight?' Tryll asks.
"Hell to the fuck yes," Dana readies herself, "Why the fuck not?"
'No stealing their weapons, Jayne. Dana, they're all yours.'
Dana steps forward and stabs one.
Nothing happens.
"Perhaps they aren't animated after all?" Miranda ventures, going to nudge one with her greatsword.
'Or they activate on a condition.' Tryll replies, activating Detect Psionics.
The statues radiate no magic or psionics that you can detect.
'Huh. They're just statues. Somewhat disappointing.' Tryll says, 'Let's move on.'
You head inward. There are gates that lead into the castle, currently shut.
Tryll inspects the door, since he already has the spell up!
The door is sealed with a simple but enduring magic. Great strength or a knock spell will be needed to open it.
Calleigh pokes the door and demands it take a break!
[/i]Time Hop, the door blips out for 48 seconds or until dismissed. It can Will save if it has the ability.
The gate is gone just like that. Within a gentle breeze blows.
The winds whisper one word, "Who?"
'Tryll.' "And Calleigh!"
Jayne sings away, pretty birdsong.
"Dana and Miranda, Benyen too," Miranda calls back.
"Enter," The wind sighs.
"Yay nice people finally!" Calleigh sings along with Jayne, flying in. Tryll follows at a more sedate pace.

Inside is a castle's hall. An entrance, undecorated but also unguarded.
That is, until the winds form before you, an air elemental with lightning crackling through its semi visible body. It's only about human sized, but sighs as if all the winds bring sorrow to it. "So long with silence and now another group comes so quickly."
"But silence is boring!" Calleigh replies.
Jayne comes forward and cocks her head, "Wind?" she asks, "Do you want quiet?"
The creature lets out another long sigh, "No. It seems a time where events move, but you are not so dark as my last guest."
'We're actually looking for someone. Something. An abomination, likely rude.'
The winds whisper back, "I believe what you seek was my last guest."
"Can you tell us where he went? He was super mean and we have to put him back where we found him!" Calleigh says.
"He seeks the Wind Nest," Is t he answer, "Go there and you may find him."
"Wherezat?"
"Deeper in Air," Is the answer you're given. "Follow the winds."
"But there's winds everywhere! It's Air!" Calleigh complains.
"You don't understand," Is the answer back, "Follow the winds and you will see."
"You are correct sir I do not understand how you can follow a specific wind in Air which is a place that is made of winds and is infinite and forever full of winds but okey dokey!" Calleigh gives a sloppy salute. "We sure can try!"
The figure seems to agree with that, for it goes silent after that.
"Greaaaaaat," Dana says slowly.
"Follow the winds. A bird is born on the winds," Jayne calls, "I'll do it!"
"Worth a shot." Calleigh shrugs, conveniently ignoring the fact that she's a courre and that all courres are made to fly. This earns her a look from Tryll, but nothing more.
"So let's go!" Jayne chirps away, already flying back the way you came.
Tryll & Calleigh follow along.
Thus you exit out.
As you do, "So we trust Jayne over there to, what, sniff this out?" Dana groans, "You have magic to help, don't you, Tryll?"
'It's an abomination. I've had trouble pinning it down. If this is faster than just sitting there for however long it takes to get through, I think it's worth exploring.' Tryll replies.
"No, I think Tryll's right," Miranda says, "It's exactly the sort of thing that would make sense on Air."
"Trust the birds," Jayne tweets as you go.
Dana takes a long breath and rubs her face, but shuts up.
'See? I'm not crazy.'
Thus you return to the storms and Jayne looks about. She sniffs the air, she looks about wildly.

The winds speak in your ears, very soft but audible to you.
"He runs. He hunts."
Again.
"He runs. He kills."

Okay.
You reach the ground, the grass bloodstained. Nothing is around save for more open, grassy fields ahead, at least as far as any of you can see.
The copper tang of blood can be tasted on the air, the scent of it also carried by the wind.
Calleigh makes a face. "It certainly smells like he was here. Do the thing!"
Tryll does the thing.
True Seeing
Phantasms linger in the air of blood and death, and more, a ghostly door hovers over the bloodstained grass.
"Smells like a battlefield," Dana agrees.
"Yeah, blood always does," Benyen seconds, as Jayne circles a bit above, flying about all of you.
'There's a door.' Tryll points out.
"It's a ghost door! Spooky!" Calleigh adds.
Jayne swoops down and looks about, while meanwhile Miranda agrees. "If it's a trap, well, we have nothing else to try. Open it and get us through."
The door is thusly approached and examined!
You don't see any traps, locks or anything like that.
There a handle?
Sure is.
The handle is turned! The door is opened!
The door opens. Ahead is a dark, bloody place. Bloodstained walls - like the walls of Pandemonium. Tight caverns. Twisting passages. It seems to constantly shift as you go in, and the howl of wind is heavy.
"This guy really needs to hire a new decorator." Calleigh says as they head inside.
"They never have good taste," Miranda agrees, "Blood and nightmares. Would it kill them for a carpet and drapes?"
You step inside. The stone walls seem to loom all around you. Tight, claustrophobic. Inches from you at all times, barely space to move. Amid it a single path forward, crushing tight.
"Have none of these bad guys ever heard of pastels and open floor plans?" Calleigh grouses. "And natural light! Who doesn't love natural light! Maybe a flower bed? A nice, cheap painting! A bowl of waxed fruit! Anything other than bloody rocks and cramped spaces!"
'Cramped spaces are a bother?' Tryll asks as he passes, unheeded by the walls.
"Not everybody is a ghost!"
'I'm not a ghost.'
"Are too!"
'I've shed my mortal shell. I'm still alive.'

You have at least one round. Any casting or preparations for this?
Tryll readies a Celestial Conduit, while Calleigh starts hitting people with Heroism! (starts Dana, Benyen, Jayne, Miranda)
One round. It's all you have as you hear a distant howling - racing closer. A great beast of wind, like a low, fearsome tiger rushing ahead towards you. A maw and claws, just like it, coming your way ever so fast and hard. Your speed has prevented an ambush as...
Init times.

A split second later a barrage of arrows fly. They pepper the beast but most are blown away. A few pass through it, leaving rippling wounds that spill airy globs of white blood. Instead it comes closer and splits into three - three great wind tigers, one that pounces at Dana, one at Benyen, and a third that leaps over all of you and goes right for Jayne.

With a loud thump Dana shieldblocks the tiger, a grunt and grin as she holds the line. The other two, however? One pounces on Benyen and rips at his throat, getting his shoulder instead and tearing away flesh. Jayne is tackled down and mauled, bitten several times and gushing blood even as her wounds begin to mend. A squawk of pain from her is heard as...
Go Tryll.

Like an angry eagle Jayne claws and pecks back - headbutts that turn into savage bites, even as her blows rain down on it. It's enough to knock it into the air, just in time for Dana to turn. She leaps up and meets it midway, rapier stabbing into its side and dragged along before Dana passes and it lands besides Jayne, bloodied.
"FUCK OFF!" Dana snaps, landing with a clang of metal, the whine of it as her armor scrapes against the sides of the tight passage.

Meanwhile Miranda peppers it with arrows, two more sinking into it. That's enough - the beast slumps over and dissolves into puffs of wind.
Free act.
'Tigers were not what I expected.' Tryll remarks.
Jayne heals before your eyes, wounds mending as flames wash away wounds, as if searing them back to whole flesh.
Dana watches that a moment, "At least you have your shit together," she declares, before, "You expect ti if you're dealing with an asshole, and we're dealing with an asshole."
Miranda checks her bow over before keeping it in hand, "Then let's go deliver him justice. No asshole can resist that."
'Yes. Benyen, are you alright?'
"Getting there," Benyen says. His own wounds heal, if far slower than Jayne's.

On you go. At last this opens up into a chamber. Empty save for two things - a stairway plunging down, and a single, weathered old gnome who blocks the way. He wears red robes with armor beneath and a face mask of steel. "Travelers," he greets, "You've gotten fearfully lost to come this way. Turn around and never come back."
"Or what?" Dana says plainly.
"You die." Is the answer.
"I'm already dead." Calleigh reasons.
'I'm sort-of dead. Half-dead?' Tryll adds. 'Would it make me all-the-way dead?'
A sigh. "What a disappointment. Powerful and it's married to fools. No matter, death will cure foolishness."
"Didn't work for me! I got much worse!"
Jayne just squawks in defiance as the gnome snaps his fingers. The ground begins to open up, stone golens rising up, human sized. Dozens of them from everywhere as - !

Can I get a rough outline of how and where everyone is situated please?
Sure. Everyone's mixed up since you walked in and golems surrounded you. The heroes are together at least, and all around you are the clay figures. The gnome is about 30ft away.
'Miranda, you and I focus the gnome. He seems to be controlling the golems. Dana and Benyen, hold the line. Jayne, assist them wherever you're able. Calleigh will use minor healing as well. Heal them if you can.' Tryll says, rising up over the group and launching two sets of double-tight lines of light at the gnome.

5 con damage to Tryll, Calleigh, Dana and Miranda. Any of you have anything that stops Constitution damage?
Shadow Body stops ability damage.
Calleigh cries as her blood is pulled from her body. Likewise blood comes from Dana and Miranda as they try and hold firm. Yet the winds harvest this blood, tearing it away from all of you.
"Can you figure where to strike?" Miranda cries despite this, as the winds howl around you.

Total of 73 then.
Then stop trying to seal me away again. I wish to be free!
'Well, what got you sealed away in the first place? Was it sucking blood from people? Because that's generally frowned upon.'
Akadi banished me in her rage. She grew jealous of me.
"Wait, who's Akadi?" That'd be Calleigh.
"The big bitch in Air," Dana supplies helpfully, as at the same time?
The ruler of Air. She had me sealed away.
KP why do I not know this[blockquote]Rolled 1d20+53 : 19 + 53, total 72[/blockquote]
Well, know you do. Akadi is the master of Air, in the same way Kossuth is the master of Fire or Grumbar is the master of Earth. Basically the biggest, baddest deity on the block for Air, runs the entire show.
Alignment?
She's neutral.
"But why?"
Pettiness! Jealousy! Weakness!
"Can you elaborate?"
Why? You'll just believe Akadi's lies!
'We've never met Akadi.' Tryll says.
Just a quick check, but that's true to the best of your knowledge?
I've honestly never heard of her before, and I don't think Tryll has met her? We've met Chan's grandson. That's about it when it comes to Air.
The wings rage around you before words come.
Then leave me in peace and freedom!
'Ehhh, we can't do that either. See, Zaphkiel told us to deal with you. He didn't specifically say HOW we deal with you, but I'm guessing that leaving you free to drain the blood out of everything around you isn't going to work with him. We need some sort of arrangement.'
You seek to limit and cage me, just like Akadi!
'We all have personal and social limitations we agree to in order to remain polite members of society. Perhaps if you shared your version of events, we could come to an amenable conclusion...?'
"Starting to see why he got sealed," Dana murmurs to you.
Jayne squawks in defiance, "It's not hard to not suck blood! You're a spirit, you don't even need to eat!"
I desire to and my freedom is the most important of them all!
"That's what got you sealed away," Benyen points out, "Are you so stubbornly foolish that you'll continue the same path? That's dumb."
"I may be a courre, but even I know that being a jerk with your freedom is a quick way to get a lot of powerful people mad at you." Calleigh adds.
Then I'll take your blood, all of your blood!
"That just makes it sound like you want to fight. Have you tried not being rude?" Calleigh asks.
This has pretty clearly broken down, so I'm going to call for a new init since he be pissed. Good luck.

Your blast flies out - and hits that dead on. There's a loud howl of agony that echos about, as the winds blow intensely and strongly around you.
Anything else this turn?
No, he's out of Calleigh's range.
Miranda whirls at that moment, and even with the winds, takes aim at exactly where Tryll attacked.

Despite the great windstorm enough of the arrows fly true to strike where Tryll just did. The winds cease and silence comes. Is...is it done?
"Already?" Dana says, "No fuckin' way."
Jayne takes to the air, "I don't see anyone," she agrees, flying about back and forth.
'...rather anticlimactic.' Tryll remarks.
"I thought abominations were supposed to be tough! Baleruk is way stronger than this!" Calleigh says.
"I know," Miranda says, "I don't think it's over yet. Don't let down your guard."
Benyen readies himself as he looks about, "But if it isn't, what can it do now?"

Just in time - for suddenly pitch black darkness falls. The winds howl anew, and on that is a shriek of pure rage.
"Looks like we were right!" Dana declares, grinning in the dark. "Let's fucking do this!"
Jayne squawks in defiance, "Come on, monster! Let's fucking do this!"
"Jayne has been taking lessons from Dana in swearing!? This is not the time for surprising revelations of character development!" Calleigh yells.

Miranda.
Miranda peers about as she holds her ground, waiting for a target.
She can't shoot well int his wind. Go.

Nothing. No resistance - only a creature that ceased to be moments ago.
'Well...that's sad. I didn't want this.' Tryll says.
"A foe has fallen. That's good enough," Miranda says, but adds, "I think it was or is beyond reckoning - likely, we simply broke up its body and it will reform in time. Such things rarely die easily."
Jayne flies about, patrolling as Benyen shakes his head, "Evil has a knack at coming back. We'll be there next time, that's all."
'Mmm. Still sad. I was hoping to be able to reason with it. Abominations seem so often to be persecuted for the crime of existing. I'm reminded of Baleruk, who was a decent sort for a chromatic dragon. Bahamut and Tiamat both decided he needed to be destroyed, the Aurora defended him. I believe they had the right of it.' Tryll says.
"Do we need to report back to the boss angel? Or does he see everything?" Calleigh asks, her eyes getting very big as she finishes.
"Let's head back and put an end to this," Dana speaks up, "Cap this entire fuckin' adventure."
Heading back then?
Excuse me, Tryll? Would you happen to have a few moments?
Oh boy, more gods. 'Depends on who's asking?'
I am Alyssa Songsteel. We've yet to make introductions to each other, but I am a friend of Moore's and an ally in our mutual struggle against certain other gods.
"We know Moore!" Calleigh suddenly shouts.
'Ah, yes. Zaphkiel mentioned you. I think. It was him or the other one.'
Excellent! I've come across a source of magic that I've theorized can be used to strengthen existing magic, but it's aligned with a type of magic none of my people use. Emily says a friend of yours, Dana, has a shield that uses cold and ice magic? I'd like to bring you and her over and use it to strengthen this shield. I could also take a look at your other equipment and see what I can do, as well.
'Hold please.' Tryll says, turning to Dana. 'Dana, a god is asking me to ask you for help. And offering to work on our equipment? Alyssa Songsteel. Sounds vaguely familiar. Thoughts?'
"Okay, that wasn't the fuckin' answer I was expecting," Dana says, "Sure, why not?"
'Team? Any objections?'
"None," Benyen says.
"Fine with me," Miranda agrees, no one arguing. "If a goddess offers you aid, you accept it."
'Right. We accept.' Tryll sends to Alyssa. 'Location?'
I invite you to our realm! Emily will be along to bring you to us. We're in Acheron at the moment, which is where the well of magic is. Are you free enough to come now, or do you have things to finish up?
'We just finished sort of murdering someone. We'll be there shortly. Where in Acheron?'
Emily will pick you up.
With that as thing seem to wind down...
If the conversation's over, what's your next move, Yuth? Go up and meet up with Emily it sounds like?
We've got nothing else immediately pressing.
You head back up and into Air. You soon meet up with Emily, who offers a hand out.
"Tryll and allies," she greets, "And you are?" she asks to Jayne.
"Jayne." Jayne answers, eyeing her. "I'm a phoenix."
A beat, Emily's smile dimming in the confusion writ large on her face. "Ah. It's good to meet you," she manages. "Please come with me."
"Isn't she great!?" Calleigh asks, glomping onto the side of Jayne's face.
'Tryll. Charmed. The tiny ball of sugar and energy is Calleigh.'
Jayne lets out a few tweets of birdsong before she places Calleigh atop her head.
"We've crossed paths before in word," Emily says, "But thank you. However, the location of this is not a safe one, so best us for us to make haste."
'Air's safe enough. I suppose? The wind and lightning was fun at least,' Tryll says, 'but I can understand why fleshy people wouldn't like it.'
"No, the location of this power is in Ocanthus," Emily explains, "It's best that we hurry."
Meanwhile Benyen goes, "That Ocanthus? You're right, we had best hurry."
"Yeah, what the fuck ever," Dana agrees, "Let's get this shit going."
"Oh, yeah, Ocanthus is super bad awful. That sounds super bummer-time." Calleigh says, leaning down and stage-whispering to Jayne, "What's an Ocanthus?"
"Don't know," Jayne answers openly.
Meanwhile a portal opens with a few words of magic and Emily says, "Come on, I'll ward you as you go through."
'Thank you kindly.' Tryll says, floating through.
So cold.
You are in a great, carved gorge in a vast ice sheet, a crevasse in it. LIttle shards of ice fly everywhere, blocked only by your protections.
Ahead, before a steady flow of white-blue energy from the bottom below, are Alyssa and Dolmaya.
"Alyssa," Emily calls, "They're here."
Alyssa looks up from making notations from her observations and smiles, "Hello! I'm Alyssa. Thank you for coming so quickly."
Miranda comes over, "Honored."
Dana leaps down as well and lands, "So that's the energy." She pauses and unstraps her shield from her arm, "So you do your shit and this shit works itself out?"
'I-' "HII'MCALLEIGHWHYISITSOCOLDISTHISANOSMYUTH WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE WHERE ARE WE GOING WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE AND DO YOU HAVE ANY CANDY?"
'-am Tryll and this is Calleigh, who is resisting the cold by radiating sheer enthusiasm, however unnecessary it may be. Hello.'
Calleigh continues to vibrate in place for a moment, then gets distracted by passing ice shards and starts trying to catch one.
"Hopefully. I'll have to do a bit of analysis on the structure of the magic in your shield compared to the energy in the well. If it's not directly compatible, I'll have to construct a spell to bring it closer in line. Something transmutation based, likely, and then channel the energy into the spells in the shield. I may have to add another layer of reinforcement to keep from overloading the physical structure of the shield's materials, but if I need to do that, I can use my workshop spell."
Alyssa trails off at the loud outburst, but moves past it, waving Dolmaya over and beginning to inspect the shield and it's energy.

We're fairly vulnerable here, so if you want to stay and help reinforce security, it would be appreciated. We can set up a Planar Bubble if your protections aren't keeping you comfortable."
"I'll take care of it," Dolmaya agrees shortly, "Get it done, Alyssa."
"I'd like to work with you on this, Dolmaya. I think your experience and nuance can help refine the end product more than if I do it alone. I want to see how powerful and refined we can make this together, as fellow experts."

"Shit, this is better," Dana hefts her shield, "I'm fuckin' in. Afina's shit is top notch, but so is this."
"Gear? A bird doesn't need-" Jayne begins, but Miranda steps forward.
"Please ignore her, I believe the word is bird brained." Miranda explains, "We would be honored, divine one."
Alyssa nods, "We'll be happy to have you. The realm is still building, but you're welcome. Let's get going."
Calleigh whispers in Jayne's ear, "Shiiiiiniiiieeeeesssssss. They look good in your nest!"
'What IS going on here, anyway?' Tryll asks.
"Really?" Jayne suddenly perks up, "I need more things for my nest, too!"
"I'm sure you'll be able to spot something. My only request is that you ask before taking, as someone else might have claimed it for their nest first."
Ready to go back then, you two? If so, what's the plan?
Yep! I'm ready. Plan is to get them into the work shop and get an idea of DCs for gear upgrades.
This is easily enough done. Have you looked at their gear to see what you want to improve in the first place?
Not yet. I'll do that later tonight.
Where ARE we going?
To my realm.
So this is my "plan." All of this depends on what the DCs end up being; improving dex bonus is easier than adding AC, for example, so if the person has better dex than what their armor allows, that's the better option.
Calleigh: Bracers of Armor +5 - Add AC bonus and/or Ethereal Armor.
Dana: Royal Rapier of Langersun: Solarian Truesteel Rapier+8, keen. - Imp. Masterwork and/or Imp. Design. Possibly Imp. Damage Type.
Lightblood Stone Full Plate+6 - Add AC bonus, Dex Bonus, Improve Armor penalty.
Bulwark of the Great Dragon, Silver: Heavy steel shield+7 - Improve Armor penalty or add AC.
Royal Shield of Langersun: Mithral Heavy Steel Shield+5. - Improve Armor penalty or add AC.
Miranda: Shaundakul's Fancy: Longbow+7 - Imp. Masterwork and Imp. Design. Possibly Imp. Range.
Wild Color: Greatsword+8 - Imp. Masterwork and/or Imp. Design. Possibly Imp. Damage Type.
Cold Embrace: Blue ice breastplate+6 - Add AC bonus, Dex Bonus, Improve Armor penalty.
Benyen: Hell Striker: Falchion+5 - Imp. Masterwork and/or Imp. Design. Possibly Imp. Damage Type.
Heroic Armor: Full Plate+7 - Add AC bonus, Dex Bonus, Improve Armor penalty.
Okay, few notes.
Calleigh's bracers wouldn't be eligible, they're not normal armor to improve. They're a wondrous magic item instead.
Dana's armor has already been worked with epic crafting via Afina in B3, it notes so on her sheet.
To get the relevant DC, take the DC of crafting a masterwork item of that type and add the modifiers for what you want to do.
As an aside, we did a thing where I remade my hammer, but never confirmed the bonuses. Important because it changes math. Previous hammer for reference:
Forging Hammer
This hammer grants a +15 competence bonus to Craft (Blacksmithing) checks. In Alyssa's hand it feels right, full of potential. For her it also applies to Craft: Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing checks, and may grow more powerful in time.
Dana:

Looks good for the NPCs. Don't worry about Tryll or Calleigh. Neither one wears armor and Calleigh's weapons are mostly for show, since she's so small. She uses wands and their analogues for the most part. Never tried to give her a staff, but always assumed that they'd be too big for her. Can tiny staves be made?
Benyen and Dana are both tanky, though Benyen seems to be the more mobile of the two. Dana's been leaning into the Psychic Warrior angle lately, which I approve of, so that'll augment her without necessarily having to worry about physical mobility.
Miranda is essentially a turret with sass. Valkyrie ftw.
Jayne sincerely believes she is a bird, and you'll have to do some impressive word dancing to get her to wear armor.
Tryll is immaterial and mostly does not wear armor. He has an ectoplasmic torc of power preservation, but otherwise everything he does is based on ioun stones.
Calleigh is tiny and armor is mostly useless on her. She wears a dress instead. Her size gives her some unique advantages and she's not martial-minded enough to want to wear anything that could be considered armor. She tends to run support, using her abilities to reposition the party, buff, and heal.
Both Tryll and Calleigh's ability to be ethereal allow them to use their environment as cover. Most powers & abilities do not penetrate solid objects and the subscribe to the idea that the best defense is complete cover, which is mechanically different from "total cover" in that total cover implies that the person in cover is still vulnerable from other sides & has to peek out to aim. Tryll and Calleigh do not.
Are you sure? Okay, in that case bump it up to +25 competence then.

Okay, before anything else, what book is Marrowcrushing in? It doesn't ring a bell.
Book of Vile Darkness. Though I think that's a 3.0 thing, actually. It does 1 point of Con damage when damage is dealt. I think it became Wounding?
That is correct, it looks like it was rendered obsolete by wounding.
So I wouldn't allow it. See wounding for that affect.
Yeah, then I'd straight swap it for Wounding, which is a +2 bonus effect.

I'll do those updates after session then, thanks.
Alyssa works away. While she can't get the Words to cooperate, she hammers away on arms and armor.
As everyone waits and watches, Jayne flutters above. Dana sits back, arms crossed and against the wall. "So thanks for the shit," she says, "Feeling generous?"
"Yes and no. The magic well was time sensitive and opportunistic. Emily knew you had the shield, so I took the chance to start a relationship with you all. The smithing work... Well, I haven't had a chance to spend time in the smithy in a while, so I took the chance while I could."
Alyssa spares a glance at Dana, "I recognize that sword and shield, by the way. Either you stole it from King Langersun, or you're the wayward Princess."
A scowl, "Yeah, sorted that out," Dana says shortly, "You know him?"
Jayne tweets away at this, bright and cheerful as meanwhile Miranda adds, "She has been rather adventuresome."
Alyssa nods and keeps working, "Yes, once. Quite the gruff fellow. I asked him for assistance. An alliance, effectively. In return I had to remove a druid from his garden. I became friends with her, and we lost her to Shar, sadly. The Grove here is named after her.
I brought up Langersun just to keep you aware that, while I won't volunteer any information, if he asks, I'll inform him that I've seen you. I won't include any details, but some of my people are still on Arythma. They're stubborn fools who stayed, and are weakened because of their low numbers, so maintaining any sort of goodwill between Langersun and them is a priority for me."
A grunt, but no real reply. Instead Benyen speaks up, "You're from the same world? That's rare, I've heard there's...isn't a lot of worlds?"
"There's many Primes," Miranda agrees, "Perhaps infinite. Each a full world unto itself."
Alyssa nods, "Yes, rare, but not unheard of. Power tends to beget power. Even in tales of heroes, there usually tend to be other agents involved. Sure, the hero may take the lion's share of attention, but how could any who help a hero do so without being similarly strong?"
"Hmph, yeah, that shit happens," Dana agrees, "You've seen that too, Tryll?"
'I've seen many things over the last million years. You tend to forget everything but the most memorable. Some things stand out, though. The major events tend to stick with you, if you're in a position to hear about them, but the primes are a news network unto themselves, and you often need the right connections to hear anything. That's why we deal with the Silverbrow Consortium, they tend to point us toward interesting tidbits.' Tryll says.
Alyssa gets a gleam in her eyes, "A million years, hm? I have a spell that can display memories... I wonder if I could modify it to scan and transcribe them... You'd have knowledge lost to the ages. To be able to bring it back..."
Silverbrow Consortium as a refresher since it's been a bit, not Silver.
"Yes," Miranda agrees, but comes forward and bows. "Thank you though, Lady Alyssa. I appreciate your aid."
'I spent quite a bit of it in hiding. Don't get too excited. I was mostly studying and trying to figure out how to live without a physical form.'
I've honestly been calling it the Silver Consortium in my head for years now. I edited to correct.
Alyssa raises an eyebrow and waves her up, "Oh stand up. I was born a mortal and a blacksmith's daughter. As much as I've learned my manners, I'm no high lady."
Alyssa holds up her hammer and gestures around, "For all that my journey has been interesting, I still wind up at home. But you know something of those travels, too. I feel it on your bow. Shaundakul showed me the horizon, too. He has a place of honor here, and so do all who follow him. That offer extends to all of you. You'll always be welcome to come and go as you please."
'...stand up? I don't have legs. I'm a squid.' Tentacles are waggled for emphasis.
Alyssa gives Tryll a flat look, "Yes, yes, jokes like an old man. Appropriate for your age. How do you all like what I've done with your arms and armor? I'd like to let my father inspect my work, if you're willing. We can have a family dinner, if you're interested."
Meanwhile Jayne swoops down, "Are there worms at dinner?"
Alyssa stares at her, "No, we don't eat worms. However, I can arrange some small game for you. Any interest in rabbit? Live or cooked? If you want live, you'll have to do the killing and bleeding outside. My mother won't tolerate it at the dinner table."
"His jokes aren't funny." Calleigh agrees.
'My jokes are hilarious!' Tryll protests.
"Oh not this again." Calleigh rolls her eyes.
'Why, just the othe-' "NOPE!" Calleigh interrupts. "You're too old!"
'..how rude.'
Jayne eyes, "I can settle for a steak," she decides on that, "But worms are good too. You should try some."
Benyen just clears his throat before, "I've had giant worm flesh before. It's not bad."
"I'm a God. I can conjure better food than worms, thank you. Shall we go?"
Alyssa sends a message to her family about the event.
"But worms are all wiggly!" Calleigh complains.
Okay, so just want to have a dinner with everyone then, Alyssa?
Yep.
That include your node?
Yep. Everyone.
It's quite the group. From Jarem and Emily, to Dolmaya and Bastian, to Walt and the rest of Alyssa's family, to Tryll and friends. A long table is taken out. As food is served in a homey, warm and comfortable dining room?
"So you're a phoenix?" Emily asks over her soup. "Have you ever heard of Kascha?"
"Kascha? Oh, I have," Jayne replies with a cheerful little chirp, "But I prefer Empress Sulia."
"...Sulia?" After a long second Jarem eyes her, "You aren't her type."
"It takes all types," Miranda waves it off, "Jayne's competent and powerful. Who wouldn't want a phoenix?"
"Someone with an extensive library."
Jayne squawks at that, "What does that mean?" she says, "I want books in my nest, too!"
"It means no fires," Alyssa responds pointedly.
"... But if you want books, I can arrange for a few copies."
After a pause, "Fireproof copies?" Jayne asks, hesitantly.
"... I'll look into it. I may need you to acquire materials, however."
A bit of laughter at that as the meal goes on, "So Tryll," Dolmaya asks, "I've heard of your species before and read of them recently. Who is your patron? The stories are not clear."
'I have my suspicions about our past patron deity, but for the most part we now all follow whoever we identify with. Well, the five of us remaining, anyhow. There's babies, but they're babies still. Lifasa will be their new home. Queen Morwell's court aided and housed me for a time after my home plane...ended, and it's where I met Calleigh. We had some fun there before being encouraged to seek our fortunes among the planes.' Tryll replies.
"We totally got kicked out of the plane, and it's hilarious." Calleigh nods while gnawing on a grape the size of her head.
"How did you get kicked out?" Benyen asks, "I usually only get kicked out of bars, but the evil ones mostly."
Meanwhile Jarem has some of his roast before, "I can think of a few days. It's not that hard if you really want to. Harder if you want to do it without committing deeds best undone."
"Bars? Hm. Sounds like you, Jarem, and Bastian should go out on the town."
'We replaced a chair with a very convincing water balloon. It belonged to a particularly stuffy tulani. He sat down in his favorite chair, and it proceeded to implode.' Tryll says proudly, 'One of the best pranks we've ever pulled off.'
"It was great! He was pretty rude for a tulani!" Calleigh agrees.
A few chuckles at that as Alyssa's sister listens, "But why would you do that?"
"Because it was funny!"
"Not everyone would agree," Bastian says, "Some people would punch you in the face for that." He gives Calleigh a look, a silent warning.
"Any prank is reliant on the knowledge your target will appreciate it," Emily says, "Or it's not a prank, it's meanness, cruelty or bullying." She puts her soup spoon down, "I trust Calleigh wouldn't have done such a thing."
Dana rolls her eyes so hard that surely Selune in the night sky felt it. "So you don't just have a pussy, you're a giant pussy."
Emily's posture stiffens, "Excuse me?" she asks, gaze on Dana.
"That's the most chickenshit, boring, dumb reasoning for pranks I've ever heard. Fuck, a good prank is all about the reaction!" Dana waves a hand, "If you're going to do stupid shit, it needs to have impact, not some sanitized prissiness where everyone just laughs and says oh that was a good one! Bullshit!"
Calleigh sticks her tongue out at Bastian in an act of solidarity with Dana! "Yeah! Pranks are all about the effect! You don't hurt anybody...obviously. But a prank should be meaningful! Impactful! Even if it's just a surprise! Like when we met Miranda!"
Dana and Emily exchange glares - and for a moment, an overwhelming presence of raw Emily is felt, her very self like a cloak over the room. Dana recoils back, "Fuck!" a passionate cry as Emily meanwhile blushes.
"I apologize. I'm still learning the limits and control of some of my abilities." Emily bows her head.
Alyssa's mother takes a long breath, "Please do try, Emily. It's incredibly intense for us mere mortals."
"Yeah, easy to forget you're a fucking deity when we're just having dinner together." Dana sits back, "Shit. Actually, do it again. It's a thrill when someone isn't looking at me like I'm scum to be cleansed off Creation."
"It's not your first time?" Emily inquires, curiously. "Some of your duties with Aurora."
"Sylica." Dana says shortly, "Ebony got her ass killed on some mission or another and Syala was pissy over it. Now see, Syala? I can respect her. She'll get in there and beat the shit out of-"
"We're hardly nobles," Walt interjects, "But still, there are ladies here. Please speak more respectfully around my wife and children." His voice is firm, but not unkind or challenging.
Alyssa snaps her fingers following her father's comment, using a bit of magic to make the sound significantly louder and ringing.
"This is a family dinner. Emily, any issues you might have with comments, leave for after. Bastian, no threats at the table. Calleigh, meal only time."
Alyssa focuses on Dana, "I'm aware of your upbringing. As much as you might not have liked the lessons on etiquette, you do know them. At least dip a toe into them at this table.
My parent's home and table will be respected."
"Did you hear that? He called me a lady!" Calleigh stage-whispers at Tryll, "Did you tell him that I'm a princess??"
'No. Perhaps he is simply astute? Or trying for politeness?' Tryll suggests placidly.
Dana lets it go at that, at least visibly. A bit of relative silence as everyone eats before?
"That's what I don't still understand," Walt speaks up, "Alyssa, Jarem, all of her friends and now all of you," A general arm wave towards Tryll and friends. "All of you seem larger than life. What is it about you that makes you heroes instead of another farmer, princess or peasant? What provokes those changes where you can duel faster than my old eyes can follow?"
Alyssa shrugs, "I haven't looked much into it personally... Yet... Though I suspect it's more of circumstance. I personally believe sentient people personify potential. Sure, it may be weighted towards one thing or another, but I believe circumstance and opportunity play a large part.
Look at yourself, papa. You went from being a commoner to the personal blacksmith of a lord. There are many, many people who take generations to get to that point. You might have, as well, if not for being in the right place to be noticed."
'Vast psionic powers and-' Tryll begins, interrupted. "Equally vast boredom!" Calleigh finishes.
'Also, Calleigh is both a courre, a princess, and a familiar.' Tryll also finishes.
"That's Wind-Princess Calleigh Summerbreeze to you, old man!" Calleigh retorts, pointing a toothpick at Tryll. "And HE'S a house-sized squid monster!"
'I'm not a monster. I'm people!' Tryll protests.
"You use me as a facemask because you scare the peasantry!"
'That's just good sense!'
"Spooky scary ghosty squiddy guy!" Calleigh makes a face.
'You like it!'
"So?"
"It's something Mom's worked on. In truth, luck seems to play at least some role, or at least it does to my eyes," Emily says, "You're right. The right place, the right chance, the right time." She pauses, reflective.
"There's more to it. Potential, talent," Jarem goes on from that. "I've read those who suppose that it contains a metaphysical element as well. That there's some unknown part of the soul that regulates it. Some souls are meant for it, some will never do it no matter how hard they try. Others vehemently disagree and believes everyone has the same potential to do that."
Meanwhile the back and forth gets listened to. "Huh." Jarem finally says, "You two have been doing this a long time."
Alyssa raises an eyebrow and turns to her parents, "I wasn't like that as a kid, was I?"
You get two amused looks as your mother says, "You've had your phases."
Calleigh looks at Jarem, then at Tryll. "Couple hundred years?"
'Or a few thousand. Time flies when you're having fun.' Tryll says pleasantly. 'We mesh well. I've honestly not counted.'
Calleigh points at Alyssa, "You WISH you could have been this awesome!"
Alyssa inclines her head, "Fair. In any case, I suspect we've all had a part of the answer, but the final part lies outside of us for the moment."
"Oh that's easy. The answer is candy." Calleigh says with absolute confidence.
Give me Perception, both of you.

Okay, in that case, anything else to cover here, you two?
Not from me.
I'm set
Next move, y'all, then?
I'm going to do an upgrade cycle on my own peeps. I just wanted to use this chance to make friends with Yuth's node since we hadn't officially met yet.
It was fun! I think we have to check back in with Zaphkiel? Am I remembering that right Dune?
Correct. I'll move you back to your own thread momentarily. In the meantime both of you get new threads.
