Title: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 12:54:06 PM
It is a quiet and subdued Jetina who goes with you as you return back to Hope's Landing. Forces are about but no sign of a battle as you return and...

Go ahead and refresh me on the efreet golem stuff, so we're both on the same page here?

From here: http://www.soulriders.net/forum/index.php/topic,104239.msg1134133.html#msg1134133

If we were able to transport the golems back to Hope's Landing, the idea would be to get the souls out of them so they can do whatever souls do. Not sure if Celestia would have any desire for the golems themselves, or would want to try and awaken them or what have you. If not, we'll just get the supplies from breaking them down or just sell them.

There were books and scrolls and things that Moore was going to look through, but as was stated at the time it was going to take time to go through IC.

"We're finished with the golems," Xandra reports, "They will be liberated and converted to normal golems. We are welcome to claim one for Hope's Landing, if we wish to have one of them."

"Something about the spider golem doesn't sit right with me, so we'll just keep the stone golem." Moore says. "I need to go through his texts and things to find out if there's anything of any interest... anything else come up from there?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 01:23:32 PM
"That's the main thing," Xandra says.

Okay, add note of the stone golem to somewhere relevant so it's not forgotten, Moore.

Moore nods. "His other valuables can be dealt with by Celestia, we have no need to turn any of them in for anything." He says, then he takes a breath. "Can you get everyone together? We have a lot to talk about."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

Xandra does just that, and...

Who do you want here?
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 02:04:05 PM
Cresiel, Kaja, Jetina, Xandra. We'll go to Moore's room! It might be a tight fit, but we'll manage.

Wood can also come.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 02:12:06 PM
Getting everyone there is easy enough - except Wood, who is napping in a quiet corner and simply refuses to get up.

Thus you all gather in this quiet place, the room too full but manageable, a pixie sized room ill meant for a solar. Cresiel sits, head still rather close to the ceiling. Xandra and Jetina sit next to each other, while Kaja sits by the window, back resting against the foot of your bed.

Go ahead and set up here, expo pixie. Make Afina the expo pixie proud.

"My apologies for the tight space. I didn't think a trip to the Bridge of Al-Sihal was needed for this. Since this place is protected by Lord Zaphkiel, I can assume the same protections remain here in this room." Moore says.

He clears his throat. "I don't think I need to say this, but I will anyway: What I am about to say does not leave this room under any circumstances. I do not even know how much of this I should share with Lord Erathaol, thought I assume Lord Zaphkiel will inform him."

Another breath as he considers his words. He shuts his eyes for a moment, then opens them. "Jetina and I met with two others, Ladies Seira and Alicia -- I believe you are familiar with them both. They also have received the boon of strengthening bonds, like us. I learned of the identity of the two other groups that make up five, one is Alyssa, who I am not familiar with, but the other is an irrigo named Tryll who I met in Aurora."

He pauses for a moment before he continues. "I suppose that isn't really the important part. The important part is Jetina and I met Io. In the... flesh, I suppose, if you could call it that. He gave us more information about why we're being empowered and to what end. We are intended to be hope to fight against not just Shar, but..."

He glances over at a window for a moment, to the Light outside.

"A moment, please." Moore says as he looks up towards the ceiling. "I apologize for invoking You in such a way, but I think You understand." He says.

Using Miracle to ask for Zaphkiel to ensure the room is completely safe to discuss Ao, or to just give him a sign that it's safe to do so. He's not terribly clear on the details of that so he's just making 1000000% sure he doesn't end up in the Beyond with Antenora.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 02:25:40 PM
That's fair.

You don't even manage to begin to cast. Light flows brightly from above, a feeling of safety, peace and security filling the room.

"That is -!" Xandra murmurs, looking up and out the window, everyone doing the same. The light of Chronias shines down, blanketing all below in an endless radiance.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 02:33:33 PM
Moore closes his eyes. "Thank you." He murmurs.

He turns back to the others. "Again, I will repeat this: Do not, under any circumstances utter any word of this outside of this room. The only being you should discuss this with is Lord Zaphkiel himself -- but I would just stay safe and not even talk about it. If we need to discuss it, we can talk here in this room of it."

A pause before he continues. "The true enemy beyond all else is Ao, the Incarnation of Chaos. I do not know the specifics behind why, or what exactly happened with the Three Incarnations, but due to the lack of the Incarnation of Law, Ao has... I suppose the way to put it would be to tilt things. Somehow or another it seems like he... well, I hate to say 'he,' as it's an Incarnation, but Ao has had a hand in empowering Shar. Beyond defeating Shar, I believe a key in the fight against him will be finding Sylvie and finding 21." Moore says.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 02:47:37 PM
Cresiel smiles. "Chaos, is it? Always the problem comes back to chaos."

Xandra is silent, head bowed.

"So you want us to get into god slaying," Kaja says, a hiss of flame spilling out from his mouth after. "Empty graves are all that remain of god slayers, I find, garnished with broken ambitions."

"It's true, and Moore speaks the truth. We have no choice but to go forward with it, because if we don't...none of this will continue." Shaking her head, "After all I saw, I have no doubt it is true and it is our burden to bear."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 02:52:36 PM
"I'm surprised at you, Kaja." Moore says, with a smile and a look of false shock. "I would've thought you were the type to jump at the chance to take on a strong opponent. At any rate, we're not challenging Ao today, tomorrow, or anytime soon. Our goals, right now, remain the same. We continue to work for the betterment of those around us, continue in our campaign against the efreet and against Shar, and continue to make ourselves stronger." Moore says.

He clears his throat. "To that end, there is more to discuss. I do not know how she factors into this, but I tell you all this because it may become relevant. Pale Night, the leader of the demons, comes from a place called the Beyond, or the Far Realm." Moore says, with a look over at Xandra. "I have a feeling you may be a bit more familiar with..."

He trails off for a moment, looking at Xandra. He pauses, blinks, as if he's suddenly found a solution to a puzzle he never knew he had the pieces for. "...made whole." He says, his voice barely a whisper. "That's... what you can do, isn't it? You can use that power against creatures from Beyond."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 03:04:56 PM
Kaja growls, "I'm not in the mood for suicide missions," he says, "At least not that grandly."

Meanwhile Xandra keeps her head bowed, "Aberrations are not of Beyond, but I have never meant what Creation commonly thinks of aberrations." she admits, "But." A full pause here, "I have never known why I have been trained such, only that I am not to tell others of the direct truth until the time is right. Of my music, my true tutor has been the light itself."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 03:16:53 PM
Moore nods. "Then, to follow that line, I will make it known to all of you the process under which Antenora became what we would call a divinity. I do not know the details, but there is a process that we commonly refer to as 'Becoming One,' that is effectively the same as ascending to divinity within Creation's rules, except this ascension happens outside of them." Moore says.

He gestures all around at this. "It's a process where you become fully what you are, the very embodiment of 'you,' but you do it in the Beyond. It is a process that I will likely attempt myself sometime soon. Io gave us a text that will help with it, that currently Lady Seira is utilizing. Once they are done, then we can peruse it." He says.

He clears his throat after that. "Xandra, I think you will be a key player there. My understanding is that the Words both you and I use are 'whole,' which has a much deeper meaning in the Beyond than here. Is that something you can shed light ..." He breathes in through his nose, then clears his throat. "If there's an explanation beyond the one I have, I think now may be the time for it. If it isn't something you feel you can share yet, that's fine."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 03:40:30 PM
"A moment," Xandra asks, as meanwhile Cresiel eyes you.

"This does raise many other questions," Cresiel says, "So many questions."

"Yeah, I went through that. Still got enough of them," Jetina adds, a wry smile. "At least I'm slowly wrapping my head around some of this."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 03:46:19 PM
"Well, while Xandra is considering, let me add one more piece to the mix. We were granted the use of a divine seed there as well. We have the ability to raise anyone within our node to divinity -- or it can be used on myself after I become One, though I am... admittedly not sure what happens at that point, but I believe you can be both 'divine' and 'One' at once."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 04:03:51 PM
A sharp exclamation at that from Kaja, "You have such a treasure?!"

"It's true," Jetina says, "Even one of us could ascend with it. It's a tremendous responsibility and opportunity."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 04:08:54 PM
"Yes." Moore confirms. "I don't know what sort of real responsibility goes into being divine, but... it isn't one that any of us should take lightly. It is a huge responsibility. While we're on the subject, what questions do you all have from what I've told you?" Moore asks.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 04:18:11 PM
"Why all of us?" Cresiel asks, "I will not shirk my duty, but for such a titanic thing, I would wish to understand why."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 04:20:45 PM
"I do not know." Moore admits. "But I think Io, Zaphkiel and one other, known as the Arbiter, put their faith and their own hope for Creation into us five. Thus, we all set out and managed to draw in those around us, like light in a murky bog -- to better all of ourselves and to find a better future." He says.

"I know that Io himself empowered Alyssa, whereas it seems like Zaphkiel sponsored me. It's... a bit humbling to hear, I admit, but it does nothing to dampen my spirits of the accomplishments we've made." Moore says.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 04:28:39 PM
"We must not let that lead to ego or pride," Cresiel declares, "We are the chosen tools, but we are still tools."

Kaja grunts at that, "Okay, so did Io part with any other treasure to help? This is going to be expensive."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 04:33:30 PM
"Why yes, in fact." Moore says. "Although it mostly ended up being things we can use." He says. He withdraws the tome he created, as well as the flute.

"So, Jetina got some new armor." Moore says with a gesture to her. He waves the flute in the air for a moment. "This is called Horizon's Flute. When I'm playing it, you can succeed at anything you do. Not 100% anything, but... more or less anything reasonable. This book will lead us to another treasure that we can utilize." Moore adds. "And in addition to that, I have notes on several magic spells that were created there that I think we could trade knowledge for."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 04:41:57 PM
"I was wondering why I want to listen to your voice all day," Kaja glances over, "I didn't want to be impolite."

"Really?" Jetina blushes hotly, reddening as Cresiel smiles.

"As did I, but it did not seem pressing," Cresiel says, "I assumed it would be addressed here."

"Well, ah...thank you." Jetina clears her throat, "I like the change."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 04:44:28 PM
"Oh, right, that." Moore laughs. "I forgot about your voice getting better."

He clears his throat. "There were other items that the rest of the groups took as well, but these are ours to use as we see fit. I'd like to find a way to put this flute to real use... maybe..." He looks off to the side. "Maybe I can use it with the notes...? Hmm. I'll think about that. Anyway, any other questions?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 04:54:31 PM
"How do you forget when it sounds like that?" Kaja stares right at you.

"Does this impact the war?" Xandra finally looks up, "Or at least our participation in it?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 04:55:59 PM
"I'm a pixie, I'm used to hearing charming voices." Moore says with a smile. He turns to Xandra. "No, I think we continue to participate in it. If the Efreet somehow win against Celestia, we would be in a terrible situation, so we will continue to fight them as we have."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 23, 2019, 09:47:36 PM
"That is good," Xandra says slowly, "Moore, can you tell me more what you have learned about making things whole?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 10:02:00 PM
"Io experimented to better understand the Beyond. He created a dragon that had the power of Beyond, which we all were able to shape into a being of Creation." Moore explains. "Well, sort of." He looks at Jetina with a smile.

"Um... so, this creature, we never got her name, so I'm just going to refer to her as the Beyond Dragon, she... spoke to us, with..." Moore takes in a breath. "I don't know how to explain it. ...Actually, I'll do my best."

Moore gestures, to try his best to emulate the type of words that the Beyond Dragon used.

Using Permanent Image to try and get the visual and auditory elements to match the slidy words as best he can, and to recreate the conversation.

It's like trying to create flying lettuce that loops around backwards while casting a fireball. Utterly nonsensical and yet you manage something reasonably close to it.

Kaja groans and holds his head after looking at it.

Xandra studies it closely, "That poor thing," she murmurs.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 23, 2019, 10:16:53 PM
It really is like using his anarchic powers, isn't it?

"I... somehow managed to make sense of how she was talking." Moore says. "I don't know that I can emulate it myself, but she said that all words from Beyond were 'whole,' and that the other way we were talking, including with divine will, were 'dead.' It seemed like she was trying to say that somehow words used in Beyond had some sort of power - and to that, she also said that my use of the Words of Creation were 'whole.'" Moore adds.

"For the moment," Xandra confirms. "There is also still a war to fight. Let us not lose sight of that."

"Only a war," Cresiel declares, "A mere distraction for us with what we know now."

This gets a sharp, flaming snort from Kaja, "A mere war, he says."

Moore nods. "So, then, for now, I think we continue as we have. If Lord Zaphkiel wishes for my role in all of this to change, I am sure He will let me know." He says. "So, that brings us to this."

He holds up the tome he created.

"It'd be cheating for me to absorb all the knowledge in this, so I need some time to read it, but this is going to be our next adventure." Moore says. "...Oh, I didn't even think about asking, how long were we gone? It only felt like a few hours to me."

Moore smiles at Jetina. "Oh, by the way, that power apparently comes from Lord Zaphkiel." He says.

You begin to read, taking in the first parts of it. More remains after this.

Water - where is the door?

Deep in a flooded palace lies a single door, a forgotten place that opens to endless stairways. Ereshin Palace lies amid arctic flows and frozen rivers, a glittering place of ice and coral. A sealed world, a sealed place, only the blood of the marid can open the way.

Beware the great hunters there, the devourers grown strong on the magic of the fallen palace. Beware the magic that guards the lost treasures of an empire. Seek this last door and be able to break the chains that seal it from the side of the endless stairways.

He makes some notes on this and continues to read!
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 01:27:34 PM
Thus you read more, more to go.

Fire - fear the war.

Rifts. A place of half cooled, half erupting lava stone, where plumes of flame and lava erupt from the ground. Rifts form here, great sprays of water larger than Aurora itself opening to spray millions of gallons of water at a time. Steam is everywhere, so hot and scalding as to boil a man alive. Over the ages it has grown taller and taller, a vast set of semi solid fire and lava caves growing from this endless war.

Find the lost house within. Beware the war. Beware the war that is raged there between the elements.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 01:29:44 PM
So it's somehow not in Steam, but Water still has influence there? Interesting.

More notes, as he reads on.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 01:38:21 PM
Yet more read, with more to go, but less now.

Air - at the lakeshore.

A great lake of molten metal, steaming hot. It drifts through the empty Air. A space of solid metal surrounds it, jagged and broken - but intact on one far edge is a throne, battered, chipped and intact. The surviving head of a roaring lion is atop it, cracked.

What was lost from Valgadda, which is no more, can be found only in the light of dawn.  Beware what remains, for the lake is not barren of life.

Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 01:46:23 PM
Earth - at the carnivore.

Earth. A vast hollow. It is filled with one gigantic thing of blue-gray scales, no body, just a blobby, scaled thing. Thousands of tendrils that end in mouths snake out countless miles and miles, reaching out to devour all around it. Earth is devoured. Metal is consumed. Gems are eaten. Earth elementals are sucked down and no more. Dao, travelers, mortals, spirits - all are consumed as well, consumed and for each one? The tendrils grow a little stronger, a little longer, reaching out yet further.

It rests within that great beast, that engine of endless consumption.

A few hours of rest pass. After everything you sit back and think - which drifts to a gentle reverie of sleep. You dream of forgotten things and glowing seeds, lost in -

"Moore!" Grias calls, shaking all about right besides you, calling out loudly.

"Waaaah!" Moore shouts as he sits up. "Wa...wha... oh, Grias! What is it? Is everything okay?" Moore asks, hurriedly.

"...We've really got to work on your urgency skills." Moore says with a small smile. "All right, I'll go see them."

A little bit of Prestidigitation to clean up his hair and clothes and Moore's off to go meet with whomever this is!

Switching aura to charisma, just in case he needs to be extra diplomatic.

Sitting with Cresiel is a familiar face. The two are talking - she wears a simple green travel dress, hair kept back and out of her face. They share a simple meal of fruit and honey, talking of shops and battles, of war and magic. Queen Ilsenine is here, turning to you with a gentle smile as you see her.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 03:13:01 PM
Moore stops for a moment -- he ought to have expected this!

He straightens his posture up as he flies over to give her a half bow and a warm smile. "Your Majesty, it is good to see you." He says as he moves to take a seat next to her.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 03:18:48 PM
With an almost smile, Cresiel rises and silently excuses himself - and pulls along Grias, who wildly bobs as he's taken away, "Bu-" is all you hear before the door closes.

"War," Queen Ilsenine says, a simple word saying it all.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 03:20:45 PM
"Ours, or yours?" Moore asks honestly as he reaches for a glass. "I'm still a bit surprised the efreet are even trying to have a war with Celestia, I admit. There's really no way they can win it, and posturing just for the sake of that will lead them to enormous losses in the end."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 03:29:57 PM
"Yours," Queen Ilsenine says, "You go to war again, after knowing peace for so short a time. Lifasa still barely knows peace, still barely understands freedom. Yet you march off again into conflict." She meets your gaze, "Afina refuses to rest, either, and Crystal only does because of the baby inside of her."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 03:35:59 PM
Moore smiles as he sips his drink, though his expression hardens slightly.

"Even if it wasn't war, it would be something else." Moore admits. "Without this, it'd be fighting against the denizens of Hell, or of Shar, or of something else. It is simply not time for me to rest yet. I will not shirk my duties to make Creation a better place for everyone... but nor will I just mindlessly follow a call for something I do not believe in." Moore adds. "If that is your concern -- that you think this a fool's errand, I can only say that I think you know better than anyone what the stakes of striving for the freedom of the powerless is."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 03:48:37 PM
"I did not think you would come home," Ilsenine says, "Even if I dreamed. I came to see you, to...have memories, in case the worst happens." she admits, closing her eyes.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 03:53:34 PM
Moore smiles. "I can't imagine the burden that sits on your shoulders, to have two different worlds to worry about. I was thinking of trying to find a way that we could see each other more regularly." He says, reaching over to pat her hand gently. "I was thinking of something like a mirror that we could talk on a regular basis and see each other, and perhaps use it to be able to transport to each other."

A pause as he considers for a moment. "I'm sorry, I haven't really been very thoughtful of your feelings in all of this. I didn't want to burden you with everything going on here, since I know you've had your own burdens to deal with." Moore says.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 04:10:36 PM
"We both have our burdens," Ilsenine says, softly. She smiles when you pat her hand, "Do you ever think you'll stop fighting?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 04:12:10 PM
"Yes." Moore says. "I can already see a future in which Creation is saved and there's no need to fight further. I don't think it ends with Her Majesty's Dream becoming reality, or every soul entering Chronias, but I know there's a future with peace in it."

The next morning over a simple breakfast, "Sir Moore," Grias reports, "We have intelligence reports about the war. It's all reprisals across the planes right now, no serious action on Fire or Celestia. Though...Intelligence suggests Baator is officially joining the battle, as well as the possibility of several reinforcements from yugoloths. The reasoning why isn't clear, nor is it confirmed."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

"I'm sure they want any chance they can get to make a statement about Hell." Moore says with a scoff as he bites into some toast. "Well, that's fine, because I'm sure there will be those that enter the war just to see Hell smashed as well."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 11:08:01 PM
"Yes, a few small planar bands have come to Celestia to render aid, and doubtless the efreet gather the same," Grias says, "It only makes sense...and that's what the information report said. So! Will you be staying here or going out today?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

Title: Re: Landing at Hope

It is orders. You are to remain in Celestia and ready for battle, though you may petition Lord Barachiel or Lord Erathaol to leave. Permission will be granted depending on the situation.

That's what it says when stripped of everything else, anyway.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 11:28:35 PM
Moore will then use his new Sending Crystal ... he really needs to come up with a fancier name for it... to contact Erathaol!

'Lord Erathaol. I have come into some knowledge of the location of an artifact known as Temman's Wheel. I would like to begin recovering the pieces in earnest. If there's something pressing you think would require us, it can wait. My first stop was to be to Lord Crystalle of Mineral in hopes of gaining more information on the piece in Earth.'
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

The answer is simple.

'Go.'

Being a connected, elite agent has its perks. As does having the ear of one of the Hebdomad.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 24, 2019, 11:41:53 PM
'You have my thanks.' Moore says. He also knows that if he's needed, a portal will likely just open up in front of him.

He goes to collect the others to explain the plan!

The plan is pretty simple!

We're going to all go see Crystalle and go together in case some stupid assholes try and jump us.

No prep needed for this except Moore's regular assortment of spells which include Mind Blank on himself.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 24, 2019, 11:48:13 PM
The return to Mineral is peaceful. There are no obstacles for you to come forth, an audience granted to you without any great difficulty. Yet there is another there - an angel with two wings, clad in armor of silver, or perhaps mithral. "Then I will take your leave, for Duke Moore arrives," he declares, hair a soft white, matching his wings. His expression is serious, bowing to you, "Duke," he says, "To victory."

"Victory," Cresiel says, quietly.

"Travel well," Xandra bids.

Kaja just looks around, takes it in, fingers occasionally twitching but no more.

"Thank you, Lord Crystalle," Jetina steps forward.

You do not know him by name, but you know what he is. He is an Elemental Guardian, a powerful monadic devas who sees to various Heavenly interests across the elemental planes. Rare and powerful, they are elite agents. They're also obscure, as they tend to be deep in the most obscure aspects of the elemental planes.

"None needed," The angel replies, "I'll not cause you to tarry any longer."

"Light's wisdom be with you." Moore says before he turns to address the abode as usual.

"Lord Crystalle, I have come to you seeking information on something. For whatever it's worth, it has nothing to do with the war." Moore offers, a small smile afterwards. "I am seeking information on... some sort of monster, an aberration or something more, that I believe to exist within Earth and perhaps part of Mineral. It is an enormous, carnivorous thing with many mouths and tentacles. I've not heard of such a thing before, but as it resides near your boarders, I thought you may be familiar with it." He explains.

Title: Re: Landing at Hope

"I do not, just this description," Moore begins as he clears his throat. "'It is filled with one gigantic thing of blue-gray scales, no body, just a blobby, scaled thing. Thousands of tendrils that end in mouths snake out countless miles and miles, reaching out to devour all around it.'" He says. "It apparently has eaten elementals and dao as well, so even if you may not be familiar with whatever it is, perhaps if there have been any places where you know things have gone missing...?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 25, 2019, 12:54:31 PM
"That is the Danaxmos," Crystalle says, "Thought to have been slain eons ago, a creation of Ogremoch's clergy from a vial of Grumbar's blood."

"Thought," Kaja speaks up, "Which means someone's playing a con game."

"Hardly the first time," Jetina speaks up, "How better to hide something than make everyone think it's dead and buried? Especially if it may be kin to you and you have no wish for it to perish."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

Moore nods. "Thank you, Lord Crystalle. We intend to slay it, for a variety of different reasons... is there anything you can tell us about it that might aid us?" He asks. "I imagine us attacking it may not go unnoticed, but... well, I have a sinking suspicion that something like that could be unleashed in the middle of this war, so I'd rather be rid of it anyway, regardless of any reprisals we may face."

Nope, we will go back and see if a Divination will work. Specifically:

'Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego Danaxmos'

But I am going to guess it will fail. If so, I will try with a different one, but I will wait to hear the results of this one.

For reference, I get the highest chance of success (90%) with Divination.

I will note the gold deductions once finished, so far 25.

Well, if it's in a cave on Earth, that... yes, could very well be it, he thinks.

Hm, but maybe...?

He decides to try the coin he always forgets about and flips it into the air, and says quietly, 'We will find Danaxmos when we go to Ban's Point.'

It probably won't actually work, but it's worth a shot!

In case you forgot, like I always do, it's the coin that shows heads if something is true and tails if not.

Soon enough the agent arrives, a familiar sight. A luminous silver dragon lands before you: Sylashavalarine, Soldiers look up warily but soon settle, no great fear or attack from the wyrm.

"You are important, Duke," the dragon greets you, "A general rarely goes to personally advise like this, but you are thought highly of in important circles."

Lunia is peaceful and yet not abandoned, soldiers and armies about, forces mustered and ready to push back the attack. Wind blows past you as you soar on dragonback, gliding along with everything below and the light of Chronias above.

"Tell me," The dragon invites.

"I have located a piece of an artifact that I believe will be a boon to us." Moore explains. "It has been absorbed by a creature called Danaxmos, who was created by Ogremoch's priests with some of Grumbar's blood. It was long thought to be dead, and it is... well, not dead. So I was going to ask Grumbar for assistance in locating it to destroy it." Moore says, giving a very factual and to-the-point explanation!
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 25, 2019, 04:10:11 PM
"Ah. I will alert our diplomat there to help you," the dragon says, "As long as you don't claim to speak for Celestia or promise things that are not yours to promise, there will be no problems. While we are at war with the dao, we are not at war with Grumbar himself. Nonetheless the enemy will be there in many shapes and form - be careful. Not all diplomats return home alive, not in a possibly hostile court when one fool may see a chance."

"Use your judgment and beware of being set up," Sylashavalarine advises. If there is a choice between your life and risking expulsion, defend your life and take your chances."

Moore gives a salute. "Thank you again for your time." He says.

They will indeed wait 15 minutes, in fact, 20!

Moore will explain to the others why they're going and that he's going to take them all with him as insurance against anyone deciding to pick a fight, unless anyone objects.

Moore will then Greater Plane Shift all of them (Kaja, Xandra, Cresiel, Jetina) to ...uh... Grumbar's... Palace...? I don't know what it's called, but assuredly Moore does!
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

It is known as the Rocks Palace. Grumbar is not a terribly descriptive namer.

Kaja would like to know how long you think this will take.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

Moore would estimate no more than an hour. If he's being drafted for another Super Secret thing he's free to go do that.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 28, 2019, 12:30:39 PM
It's heavy here. The gravity laps at all of you like an overeager dog for affection, making everything seem so much heavier. You appear in a rocky stone chamber, lit only with bowls holding dull, small flames within. It's a shadowy light. A tunnel heads deeper into the earth.

"Ugh,' Jetina grimaces, "I feel like I'm carrying a heavy pack."

Cresiel slowly stretches and then  twists side to side, "Then straighten your back and keep going."

As the two talk, you see a figure coming ahead from that passage, stomping forward. A man sized creature of rock, watching the party impassively. In rumbling Terran. "You. Come."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 12:35:39 PM
"Of course, thank you." Moore responds likewise in Terran as he moves ahead.

Inwardly he grimaces a bit at the heaviness, but does his best to look unbothered by it.

At this Xandra falls in step with you, keeping her pace even. "Do not perch or rest, they will view it as weakness, even if none say it." She keeps her voice down, hardly more than a murmuring.

"Spoken like someone who doesn't get tired anymore," Jetina quips with a bit of an amused look, "Not that I mind that part of being a spirit."

Kaja continues along with all of you in the meantime, "The dragonborn spirits I have met often mention the same thing. If you ask me, a good night's rest is a fine thing and worth being tired over."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 12:44:54 PM
Moore just smiles as he continues along. "We've been through much worse than it being a bit heavy, I'm sure it will be fine." He says with a bit of a chuckle.

If the elemental has an opinion, it does not deign to offer it. You are lead down the passage and around the bend before, "That's enough." The man here has a deeply lined face, wearing slate gray and walking with a silvered cane. "Duke Moore, I presume? Elemental, I will escort this one. Follow if you must to complete your chosen duty."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

A firm handshake from a gloved hand, given to everyone. "Will," he introduces himself, "A friend of Celestia here and today, tour guide," he says with a faint uptick of his lips. "I understand you have business here, Duke Moore?"
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

Moore nods. "I would like to speak to Lord Grumbar about a... mm. I do not know how sensitive a subject it is for him, but I would imagine at least moderately so." Moore answers. "I can explain the details to you, if you would like."

"Once we are somewhere more secured," Will says, then taps the wall with his cane. A grumbling and a rumbling of stone, "The walls hear things. Quite literally."

"Elementals," Cresiel says with a severe look at the wall.

"Quite so," Will agrees, the tap tap tap of his cane as he continues on.

The passage soon merges to a bigger one, where elementals come and go - and as you go down, a richly dressed, tanned creature passes. He has fine features and wears many rich jewels, tall as Hanna and giving you a disapproving look. He wears white otherwise, robes of it.

"Will," he says coolly, "You can do better than that."

Without missing a beat, "Duke Moore and friends, this is the dao Saz. No title, but he's quite wealthy and with interests in Earth's trade with assorted realms such as Magma. He continually notes I could make far more money working for him."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

"Cut throat, though," Kaja says, a hand on his scimitar's hilt. "So...cut throat."

Cresiel merely stares at him, no comment given.

Saz sniffs, "And I see the enemies of commerce are here. If you hate profit that's your business, but must you and yours meddle in our profits?"

Will smiles thinly at that, "You know the answer to that."

Jetina sighs, "It's not just their business when they're trading slaves."

From there you walk down the path - and it opens up into a cavern bottom. Soaring ahead is a vast palace carved out of a huge mountain, dozens and dozens and dozens of levels rising high up and from the looks of it, more below. Elementals and creatures of Earth all come and go here, a steady bustle as you take it in.

"It's said that the Rocks Palace is so large that none have seen it all or found the limits of it," Will remarks. "It's also untamed if you go past the civilized areas - embassy branches beyond the main ones require defenses."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 02:35:59 PM
"I can imagine that's owed to the rather infinite amount of space the elemental planes take up." Moore says. "A good place to hide treasure, if you're brave and a little stupid, I suppose."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 28, 2019, 02:41:19 PM
"Oh, there is lots," Xandra peers ahead.

"Exactly. You see, past the area Grumbar bothers to enforce civility on, it's a frontier. A frontier loaded with seams of gems and metal, great caverns of vast riches." Clearing his throat, "Ahem. Pardon. You see, many of the more materialistic embassies have branches to hunt these riches - and thus we follow, so that fiends and the like do not have unfettered access to them. Grumbar cares little, so long as those who go there understand the rules are different in those parts of Rocks Palace. As teleporation is impossible, webs of embassy bases are maintained by all sides to explore and oppose one another."

"It sounds like a dwarven paradise," Kaja says, "Or a dragon's."

"In a word? Yes," Will agrees as you head in. "Dwarves from Moradin and dragons from Bahamut comprise a goodly percentage of the forces involved with that for Celestia."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 02:46:12 PM
"There's something to be said of the wholesomeness of delving into caverns for riches." Moore says with a small chuckle. "It's the idealized adventurer's dream, isn't it?" He asks as he looks out and across the castle.

"I imagine things get a bit complicated if something ends up on Mineral's side of things." He adds.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

"I've not heard of any portals to Mineral," Will remarks, "But it would be if there are any."

Title: Re: Landing at Hope

Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 28, 2019, 03:03:20 PM
As you ponder future plans? You head inside, down a sloping tunnel that ends in a ladder going deeper. Then a trip deeper yet, around and around and around - until at last you come to a stone carved door, two astral devas guarding it. They bow and step aside, "Sirs," they say, "Welcome."

Will nods and heads right on in.

"Devas as guards," Cresiel eyes them, "Are things so dangerous and dire here?"

Will pauses, "Hardly. It's a position of honor for those who have served in the outskirts well. Eight hours of guarding and sixteen free a day, with seven celestials assigned to it."

One of the devas, bright with vivid purple hair, "After that fiendish demon wyvern, I earned this rest," he says, "That cursed beast was more poisonous than a viper."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 03:06:33 PM

Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 28, 2019, 03:17:47 PM
And thus you head in. Inside is a cave made cozy - smokeless fires in braziers, deeply cushioned chairs, couches and other such things and altogether a feeling of warmth. It smells good in here, of cinnamon and fresh bread.

Xandra takes a long sniff, "Marvelous."

"We have a chef who's quite skilled and came to us for sanctuary. She's helping atone in part by serving others." Will says, leading you into a room. "Alright, the main ambassador's occupied at the moment, but I can speak on his behalf. This room is safe, speak freely."

The room itself is like the others, the scents of cinnamon and cooking stronger here.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 03:20:15 PM
Moore nods. "Interesting. It takes all types, I suppose." He clears his throat. "I have knowledge of a being known as Danaxmos is alive and on Earth. It was a creature created by Ogremoch's priests with some of Grumbar's blood. I seek to kill it, for a variety of reasons, and would appreciate Lord Grumbar's help in locating it, as it seems to be warded against divinations -- my assumption would be by Ogremoch or those associated with him." Moore explains.
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 28, 2019, 03:41:12 PM
"You understand that it's a sticky situation," Xandra says, "Especially if Grumbar has any interest or protectiveness towards it."

Will frowns, cane tapping against his chair. "That..." he considers it, silent as he taps away, "That's difficult. Fortunately, bluntness works well when talking to Grumbar. He has no use for allusions or such things, simply state your meaning plainly. The question is how will he react and if you can get anything out of it."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Nephrite on January 28, 2019, 03:43:03 PM

Title: Re: Landing at Hope
Post by: Anastasia on January 28, 2019, 03:50:33 PM
"We'd rather not kill it if it's under Grumbar's protection," Cresiel speaks up, "We need not more trouble with Earth, or for Grumbar to declare for the efreet and dao because of a scandal. More than anything else, we can't afford to blunder into a mistake."

"Well, we can get you a meeting with Grumbar, he sees petitioners at all hours through an avatar," Will remarks, "Be open, blunt and forthright. Try to convince him if he hasn't spoken his will yet, but once he has, it's as hard to change as it is to move a mountain. At times, we find a goal from him is impossible since he's already made up his mind about it. Don't expect words to sway him once he's made up his mind."
Title: Re: Landing at Hope

You are thus escorted through halls of ancient stones and full of creatures of living earth. Past a mountain spire within so tall that clouds cloak the top, elementals painstakingly molding the stone with their hands, as if it were mere clay. To chambers where strange hymns and Terran eternally echo, never growing fainter, but seeming to be alive with their own energy.

Jetina stays quiet throughout the trip, while Kaja seems content to take it in. Cresiel follows solemnly, merely nodding on occasion to a passing elemental. "Purpose," Xandra murmurs to you, "A purpose terrible in its single minded intensity."

From there you go deeper. Deeper in, past solemn chambers long forgotten save to the residents, through stone galleries of impossible purposes. Then at last through a door that leads to a cavern both vast and small at once, for one figure blots all. A mountainous thing, a great mountain given form and yet alive, face staring down impassively.

You have an overwhelming knowledge that it is time to speak.

It is like an avalanche, all of you pushed out of the room and away. Once clear, Jetina speaks aloud, "His voice was overwhelming," she says, "Just like his body."

"So we have to find this without hurting Danaxmos?" Kaja makes a face, "That's going to make this even trickier."

However, we're not going to go and try and find it just yet, I think the other pieces will be easier to locate, and then we can likely use them to move the last piece out of Danaxmos or simply to locate it with them. The next is handed over.

Dear Moore:

I hope you are well, hale and yet untouched by the rumors of war that have reached me.

I hear you're at war. War is the foundation of great profit; never let it be said that war is not seen for what it is. A maxim I learned young and believe to be well spirited and wise, one I would wish to extend to you. In particular, my excellent profits at Aurora have earned me a great deal of discretionary funds. Funds I could invest in a second shop. I am currently considering such an expansion, do you have any interest in this or know of another place that would be receptive? Though I confess in your position there may be complications that make it more difficult - or not. I am not fully conversant on your situation, so take this with the understanding that I am not committing to anything yet.

Signed

It was a pleasure to hear from you. I would be happy to discuss this further with you, please feel free to come to Hope's Landing in Lunia at your earliest convenience, I can explain the current situation and what I'm attempting to do here.

Best Regards,

Moore.

"Could you please make sure this letter gets to Filbrez of Aurora?" Moore asks.

After that, he takes out his Miniaturized Sending Orb (argh, you need to come up with a better name for them, Moore!) to send a message to Alyssa.

'Lady Alyssa, this is Moore of Celestia. At your leisure, please feel free to come to Hope's Landing in Lunia, and I would be happy to discuss matters with you, or I can visit you if you would prefer.'
