Mini Game Logs / Re: The Dragon-Turtle Meet 15
Last post by Corwin - June 30, 2025, 02:53:01 PM
20:22 <•Kotono> Skaya returns to the Guild. It's mostly closed under the circumstances, but a few people remain. That includes a familiar receptionist, who looks to you along with the few others here as...OOC: Go ahead.
20:26 <Skaya> "You can really tell what an essential service is when you see what's left open during such times," Skaya notes as she approaches the receptionist in question, remaining a slight distance away. If she wants to serve as an example to people, she needs to be one every time.
20:28 <•Kotono> That gets a warm smile, "It's good to see you, even if today's been terrible."
20:30 <Skaya> "How are we doing here? Anyone showing symptoms?"
20:41 <•Kotono> "No one here," Is the answer back, "I heard that maybe they caught this one in time."
20:42 <Skaya> "So yeah, that's kind of why things have been so busy," Skaya admits, running a hand through her hair. "Were you told how to stay safe during all this?"
20:46 <•Kotono> "Do what is told, stay at home, obey orders," Is the direct answer, "Avoid getting too close to random people. Don't eat anything with mold," She lowers her voice, "But that one's new."
20:46 → Iddy joined (uid408070@lunarnet-423F0355.irccloud.com)
20:49 <Skaya> "Avoiding direct contact altogether is good, where it comes to other people," Skaya says, deciding to explain. "Since it's not airborne, we can all still interact mostly normally, but that one would increase the risks. The first three are more of a means of controlling the town during this crisis, because panicking people are a danger to themselves and their families." She taps her lips, frowning slightly.
20:49 <Skaya> "No mention of Brachidos, the wizard in the red mask?"

19:07 <•Kotono> "You want the truth, all of it?" Sherman asks, looking back and forth.
19:07 — Skaya gestures for Sherman to go on.
19:08 <Devar> Devar just folds his arms to look intimidating.
19:10 <•Kotono> After a deeper pause, "He-he..." A stop, "He knew I was better than this. That most people were spiteful, miserable sheep," A hint of disdain, "And that they pull the rest of us down with them. He told me I was better than them, that I could have my revenge against all of them that held me back."
19:11 <•Kotono> Sanda doesn't hide the look of disgust on her face, looking away.
19:11 <Skaya> "Revenge over what? Over whom, specifically?"
19:14 <•Kotono> "Over everyone, keeping me down in this miserable job on a farm, going nowhere and doing nothing. It made so much sense. He knew what to say, he...he....knew I was better than them," Sherman looks down, disdain giving way.
19:16 <Skaya> "And you went and showed how much better of a person you were than everyone else by poisoning them?"
19:19 <•Kotono> There's no answer to that. Sherman's gaze looks down, stays down.
19:20 <Skaya> "Tell me more about your meetings with that man. Where were they, what else did he talk about?"
19:23 <•Kotono> "At home, in the barn. He was there when I looked away, and gone when I looked away again."
19:23 <•Kotono>  OOC: Gah.
19:24 <•Kotono> "At home, in the barn. He was there when I looked away, and gone when I looked away again." A pause for that, "He said he was more than mortal, and I could be more than mortal, too. That he follows someone who understands most are weak, spiteful sheep who drag everyone around them down. That all they're good for is to cast aside and grow strong on by taking advantage of them."
19:25 <Skaya> "You've been handling the sale of your family's goods for a while, right?" Skaya can't help but ask him. "Was this really the first time you came across a swindler? If he's so right, where is he? And where are you now?"
19:28 <•Kotono> "He-I...he dindn't speak like one." The words sound lame, weak. Sanda tsks and looks away again, an expression of utter disgust.
19:29 <•Kotono> "More importantly, I think someone has something that's giving him insight on others," Sanda murmurs, "His ability to find others and manipulate them is far too good to be normal."
19:30 <Skaya> "Good point," Skaya agrees, before asking Sherman, "Did you ever voice those doubts you've been having to someone? Perhaps while drinking out with some friends?"
19:30 <Devar> Devar nods to Sanda. "Maybe the mask, too."
19:33 <•Kotono> "No. I never did," Sherman says, "I think. Sometimes when I drink..." A listless shrug, everything seeming to bleed out of him.
19:33 <•Kotono> "Maybe the mask, or maybe something else he has," Sanda says, "Logically speaking, we know we're dealing with an experienced, established threat. He's built up his own supply of useful items, just as we have."
19:35 <Devar> "The problem is that all we can keep doing is chasing him, we don't have any way to pin him down to one place." Devar says with a small sigh. "This guy is just another pawn."
19:36 <Skaya> Before they can get into that, Skaya asks Sherman to confirm where he left the poisoned food, as well as whether he delivered some of it privately.
19:37 <•Kotono> "I don't think we'll get anything else useful from him," Sanda agrees, but then turns.
19:37 <•Kotono> "No, it's all in that one batch," he says, "It's all there and only there."
19:37 <Skaya> "And your family? Did you leave something for them?"
19:41 <•Kotono> A shake of his head, "I didn't bother."
19:43 <Skaya> "I see." Skaya just stares at him for a long moment. "I heavily recommend repenting." She leaves without waiting on an answer, Sanda had the right idea here.
19:45 <Devar> Devar glances at Skaya's departure and goes to follow her.
19:48 <•Kotono> Once you're away, Sanda murmurs, "Fast, too. I can't imagine he won't hang for this."  Then, pushing past that, "Another threat neutralized, at least."
19:49 <Skaya> "I'm afraid we didn't neutralize any threat," Skaya says in dejection while they're still alone, without all the people who are relying on them for morale. "He was already caught and even if released for some dumb reason I doubt he could've made things worse here. How about your mages? Just how is it possible one of them didn't even know about Brachidos? I'm still confused about that."
19:52 <Devar> "Yeah, we're still being reactive." Devar agrees. "Do we have the ability to go after the turtle dragon?" He asks. "It seems obvious that Brachidos has poisoned it in some capacity, if we could remedy that it might be able to help us track him down."
19:54 <•Kotono> "I'll look into it," Sanda agrees at that to Skaya. "I could swim down there, but I don't fancy doing it alone, Devar."
19:55 <Skaya> "Please also look into the nice and apparently powerful mage I talked to. I always feel like the powerful mages I meet are really villains in disguise." Skaya shudders. "I really hate that Brachidos exists. Ah, and Devar, why is it obvious the murder turtle was poisoned?"
19:56 <Devar> "Oh, you probably didn't see it." Devar says. "It was crying out for help - and its eyes were all black." He explains. "I imagine it got poisoned or is being controlled somehow."
19:58 <Skaya> "Wait. Sanda, is there a mage based out of here that can control powerful beasts?" Skaya muses. "Because there's that Dia druid with the city-wide sudden storm, so who really knows? And if there's no one else, maybe we can try to find the druid and ask her to look into the turtle?"
20:02 <•Kotono> A few thoughts before, "No, not by a spell. That's much too advanced," Sanda reasons, "At least that's known. I'll ask som emore questions." Then a beat, "Though maybe a druid could do that," She adds, thoughtfully.
20:04 <Skaya> "At least I made sure that all those we're working with have actually been explicitly told about Brachidos," Skaya informs Devar and Sanda. "So if a town guard, priest or mage blanks at the name or description, or discloses an encounter, that means they've been keeping it hidden. I think I'll do the same with the Guild and its employees and patrons. What are you two thinking of doing?"
20:06 <Devar> "There's not much for me to do specifically, but I can go scout the lair if you want?" He offers.
20:06 — Skaya blinks, asking, "Lair?"
20:08 <Devar> "Well, when I chased it in the water, it kept going in one particular direction." He says. "I just assumed there was an underwater cave or something it lived in."
20:10 <•Kotono> "It has to live somewhere, " Sanda agrees with the thought. "And have somewhere to store its hoard."
20:10 <Devar> "I can go find this druid if you want and see what information we can get out of them." He says. "Maybe Sanda and I can go together so we're not alone?"
20:11 <Skaya> "Oh! So you meant scout for the lair, not check the lair out!" Skaya nods. "Nice proactive idea, but let's try to find the druid first? With the assassinations, I'm leery of having someone travel on their own or too many of us leaving town."
20:11 — Devar nods.
20:13 <Skaya> "Best of luck! And don't leave Sanda alone anywhere!"
20:13 <•Kotono> "Very well," Sanda agrees as the afternoon wears on. OOC: Next move for everyone, then?
20:14 <Devar> OOC: Devar and Sanda will find the druid
20:16 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay, and Skaya? Sec.
20:16 <Skaya> OOC: I'll visit the Guild
20:22 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay, Skaya over to #dunes.
20:23 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay, how do you two want to dig up a druid?
20:24 <Devar> OOC: Let's just ask around? They probably stand out a lot, so someone must've seen them.
20:31 <•Kotono> OOC: Sure. Diplo for GI.
20:31 <Devar> OOC: Take 10 for 27
20:41 <•Kotono> It takes some asking around, but Dia? You hear she's gone to meet with the High Reeve. Not too hard to suss out.
20:42 <Devar> Devar will take Sanda and head to where the High Reeve is! They will probably catch her on her way out.

Factotum 7//Monk 6/Half-Air Elemental 1

Sadly rolled 3 for hp, so +8hp. +1 BAB, +2 to all saves, +19 skill points. Gonna go for Perform/Act on top of regular skills. Some really, really minor additions to Factotum healing and skills boosts, and a third lvl2 spell. Not a very good level, but it progresses towards Factotum 8 which is actually good.

For my own reference.

Sanda has to choose between losing wizard spell progression or duskblade spell progression. She'll go duskblade every time. So her next level will be another level of frost mage and her first level of half water elemental. Wizard 5/Frost Mage 2//Duskblade 6/Half-Water Elemental 1 (Needs 3 levels of Half-Water Elemental). Incidentally, she gets resistance to cold 10 from frost mage, which means the Icewind Tear is a lot less worthwhile for her. She might trade it. Also she'll get control water as an SLA, which is useful on occasion.

On the other hand, Anne has half of a gestalt that mostly cares about full BAB and good saves, so she doesn't lose CL. She'll go lifespark 2 and half air elemental 1. Cleric 5/Lifespark 2//Fighter 4/Paladin 2/Half-Air Elemental 1 (Needs 3 levels of Half-Air Elemental). Selective healing's a good pickup for her, she'll be happy that simplifies her life. Also wind walk is good to let another person fly, such as Sanda or Rina.

Rina paid off a level of half fire elemental already, so that's moving along well enough. She'll go for the second level of that and scout 7. Nothing too interesting here, she might even consider a dip out of scout to spice her up. She could use some more ranged options, not sure what offhand. Wall of fire helps slightly there, but not enough. This might be something better solved with items. I half have a mind to make a fire runner PrC for her, I'll see how I feel after vacation.

I read the first three chapters and a bit of the fourth. I'm wondering if it's meant to be a slice of life story or if a greater plot is waiting in the wings? My opinion depends on that.

It's funny that my other level is right there.

Devar reaches level 7!

Half-Lightning Elemental 3//Abjurant Champion 2

This officially pays off the +3 LA from the template.

6 on a d8 for 13 total, bringing him to 91 total Hit Points.

+1 BAB, no save increase at this level.

Nothing happens on the elemental side except that Devar can now cast Lightning Bolt 1/day.

Abjurant Champion side however:

Swift Abjuration (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, you can cast abjuration spells as a swift action, as if you had applied the Quicken Spell feat to them (but without any change in level). The maximum level of spell you can quicken in this way is equal to 1/2 your class level (rounded up).

The bonus from Abjurant Armor also rises by 1.

He will also pick up Mass Resist Energy to ease Anne needing to spend spell slots on that. Or at least this made sense until I realized this is 4 for Wiz and 3 for Cleric. He'll just be boring and take Dimension Door, which as we've seen has a lot of practical applications.

Death, The Silent Mask

This mask is said to have been forged by the yugoloths for unknown and unknowable aims. When worn, the user's face becomes ice cold as well as completely numb. This is uncomfortable, but bestows several powerful benefits.

The wearer gains a +15 competence bonus to Stealth checks. They may take 13 (as take 10 but as a result of 13 instead) on any Stealth check, no matter the circumstances. Additionally, they gain the benefit of a Nondetection spell, caster level 15th. Finally, once per day as an immediate action, the user may deal double damage on a sneak attack. This must be used when the attack is made.

Shadowleap

A ring set with a black gemstone, this ring comes with five charges per day. The charges may be used to invoke the following spell like abilities.

1-Expeditous Retreat
2-Dimension Door
3-Dimension Door + Invisibility

All spell like abilities are caster level 9th. However, the ring's magic only works when the wearer is unseen.

It's worth noting that Shar's unholy symbol has mostly been removed from the ring, but enough remains to identify it.

Gasconar's Spite

A dagger said to be a lost treasure of Gorgeland, this was wielded centuries ago by a master assassin. While the magic on it has decayed thanks to a partial purification, some power still remains. It is a dagger+2 that increases the save DC of any poison applied to it by 2. In the hands of an evil aligned spellcaster, they may add the following spells to their spell list: 1-disguise self. 2-alter self. 4-poison.

A good aligned creature who touches Gasconar's Spite suffers 1 point of ability score damage, with the ability score damaged determined randomly. This doesn't apply to creatures injured by the weapon, likely due to the partial purification.

Whisper Of Legrane

This gold armband is one noted in the histories of the northern lands, though none of you know more than that. When worn it grants the benefits of a tongues spell (caster level 5th) at all times, as well as benefits depending on the wearer's alignment.

Good aligned wearers gain access to a pool of healing identical to a paladin's lay on hands ability equal to (wearer's hit dice + wearer's Charisma modifier)*10. Should a paladin wear it, the two pools of healing merge into one. Additionally, 10 points of healing can be used to cure one point of ability damage, and 100 points to cure one point of ability drain. However, on any day the wearer does not heal at least three people in need, they suffer 1 point of Charisma damage. This damage cannot be healed until the wearer heals at least three people in need, nor can it be removed until the damage is healed. The wearer does not count as a person in need for the sake of this item.

Evil aligned wearers gain access to a pool of damage identical to a paladin of slaughter's deadly touch ability equal to (wearer's hit dice + wearer's Charisma modifier)*10. Should a paladin of slaughter or tyranny wear it, the two pools of damage merge into one. Any creature slain by this ability rises as a ghast (or similar creature if a ghast is not appropriate) that is loyal to the wearer and will not harm them. However, on any day the wearer does not harm at least three innocent people, they suffer one point of Charisma damage. This damage cannot be healed until the wearer heals at least three innocent people, nor can it be removed until the damage is healed.

Neutral aligned wearers gain no extra benefit or penalty.

It's said that there's some means to overcome the weaknesses of this armband, but the means are not known.

Nolairen

A ring of solid steel that is paired with Aglaine. When worn, you know the general health of the wearer of Aglaine and can communicate telepathically with them. The wearer of Aglaine cannot lie to you (you automatically pass all Sense Motive checks against them) and any attacks you make against them gain a +4 bonus. This includes to caster level if a spell is used to attack them.

Bellerena

This diamond is the size of a fist and sparkles with intense blues, verdant greens and lush oranges within. It's said to be a shooting star that fell, though the stories are old and faded with time. What is known that it generates one charge per day at nightfall. These charges can be stored up to a total of three, and they can be used in place of charges on other magical items.

Extremely powerful items, such as a ring of wishes or an artifact, place strain on Bellerena when its charges are used for it and may cause Bellerena to crack. Should Bellerena crack too far and break, the bearer will suffer a curse. The nature of this curse is not known.

Scroll of Cure Critical Wounds

Scroll of Poison

Scroll of Misteyes

Potion of Cure Serious Woundsx3

Potion of Cure Light Woundsx5

Diamond, 3,200 gold.

Sapphire, 1,750 gold.

Moonstone, 920 gold.

Ten purple-red agates, each worth 50 gold.

Gold and rose quartz chalice, 2,490 gold.

589 gold

I'll give it a read tomorrow, when it's not 3 AM my time. What's the story about, by the way?
