Title: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on August 30, 2016, 03:42:23 PM
Moore, you want to work on that sigil of Willah's. What's your plan here?

Ask Gold first what his opinion is on it first, then Hamogan if Gold can't answer it. Moore would also ask about the dress!

Gold is found in Aurora's cafeteria, in humanoid form. He's eating the biggest steak you've ever seen, methodically slicing it up and eating it. He listens to you, "I would have to see it," he confesses, "It does sound like one of a set, based on what you've said."

Moore nods. "Well, I'd hate to interrupt your food." He says with a bit of a laugh. "We can take a look after you're done. I'm actually kind of curious if the magic can be purified without losing its potency."

"Purifying magical items is possible, usually through a quest. An artifact is another thing altogether." Gold pushes his plate aside and stands, "I can eat later."

Moore nods and will take Gold to where they're storing the retrieved items!

It's in a sealed vault, the ring sitting by itself on a plain cushion. "I will need to study it for some time," Gold says, "Your assistance would be appreciated."

Moore nods. "Of course."

[15:41] <Nephrite> roll 6d4 nonlethal
[15:41] <Kobot> Nephrite rolled 6d4 nonlethal --> [ 6d4=13 ]{13}

+8 morale bonus and +5 untyped bonus. Moore would also take 10 for 41 on a Profession (Motivational Speaker) check to get him to really focus!

"Aaaah." He studies it for a good hour, examining every part of it. Yet he never touches it, and in fact keeps his distance more and more as he goes on. "Cursed thing, vile thing," he mutters to himself several times, until at last he finishes. "It is..."

Loot.

"Wow, that's... quite potent." Moore says. "Surely we can somehow do something with it, can't we?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on August 30, 2016, 11:06:28 PM
"It's cursed with great evil," Gold says heavily, "I fear it is part of a set, one of many. Perhaps nine."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on August 30, 2016, 11:14:48 PM
Moore nods. "We have another one, I would imagine you're correct. I wonder if we could break one down to break the power of the others..." Moore considers for a moment. "But, perhaps it'd be an even stronger signal to Hell if we could somehow purify it with Celestia's light."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on August 31, 2016, 02:41:56 PM
"What do you know of the other one?" Gold asks when you mention that. "So there is another one?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on August 31, 2016, 02:48:46 PM
"I don't know the specifics about it, but it was recovered from another one of the traitors to Lifasa." Moore explains. "I'm pretty sure it was similar -- a ring of some sort."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on August 31, 2016, 03:50:59 PM
"That suggests a set of them. How many traitors are there?" Gold asks, turning his gaze back to the ring. His expression is thoughtful, "Nine?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on August 31, 2016, 04:26:05 PM
Moore nods. "Yes, that's correct. I don't know all the details, but I know that much at least."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 12:51:57 PM
"Then, excuse me. I will go consult with those that know more on this matter," Gold says.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 12:58:26 PM
"Ah, of course. There's also an item -- a dress that was recovered. That may be a more simple matter, once we finish with this." Moore says.

Gold's search takes him to Sage Vul'lath. He's in the library, unoccupied. He gives the two of you a dry look, "Once again, seekers of wisdom come to the deepest and most productive well rather than digging themselves."

"This well has what we need, while ones we make ourselves do not, for we seek the wisdom of those who have worked for Aurora before my time," Gold replies evenly, "Is it not wise to seek wisdom where it can be found?"

"If this is the only well with what you seek, then come and drink your fill," Sage Vul'lath sits back, steepling his hands together. "What do you need?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 02:11:38 PM
"The other signet ring -- the one recovered from, um... Yian, right?" Moore asks. "We're of the opinion that it and the one we recovered from Willah are probably part of a set -- er... maybe you knew that already. We're thinking there are nine of them total for all nine traitors, but we wanted to ask the specifics on the ring before we did anything else."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 02:17:33 PM
"We did and we did think that," Sage Vul'lath replies. "Our thinking is that they're important to Lifasa in some manner. At the least, they're powerful infernal artifacts we are denying to the devils. That is enough."

"Hm." Gold considers thoughtfully, "Do you think that it's important because of Hell and its measures, or because of any evidence otherwise?"

"Both." Vul'lath looks at both of you over his fingers, tilting them to point at Gold. "Nine traitors, nine rings. There's a working theory that each traitor represents a layer of Hell in some manner, though this may be more symbolic than actual."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 02:19:28 PM
"Was any effort ever put into trying to purify Yian's ring?" Moore asks. "That was my immediate thought with these, to try and get them to be tools for us to use against Hell."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 02:26:49 PM
"Jaela considered it, but I do not believe it was ever attempted," Sage Vul'lath replies.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 02:42:18 PM
Moore nods. "Perhaps with two of them instead of one, it's more likely to be successful. Either way, thank you." He looks to Gold to see if he has any other questions.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 02:43:27 PM
"Thank you," Gold agrees, going off. As you do, "I think there's little to be immediately done with the ring. That's for Aurora's leaders to determine?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 02:46:21 PM
"I don't think anyone's going to be opposed to us trying to turn it into a tool for good." Moore says. "But I can ask at least."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Okay then, next move about asking?
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

He'll ask Morniel and then go from there.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 03:19:12 PM
You catch Morniel in the courtyard. He's heading out, but you catch him just in time. "Yes?"  he asks, pausing in his steps. Elder Magi Tepen walks with him. "I'm leaving now, so please, ask what you need to before I am gone."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 03:27:16 PM
"I'll make this quick, then -- Do you know if there'd be any issues with Gold and I working to purify Yian and Willah's items for use within Aurora?" Moore asks.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 03:30:10 PM
"No, but that was not an affair I dealt much with," Morniel says, "Jaela, Adrian, Afina or Ithea would know more than I."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 03:40:04 PM
Moore nods. "All right, thank you."

He has a feeling he knows where Afina is, so... "Elena, can you tell me where Willah is currently being held?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 03:48:13 PM
"In the dungeons, of course. Afina's interrogating her right now." Elena appears, all greenish and clad in tunic, hose and with a longbow.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 03:49:47 PM
Moore nods. "Let's go ask them directly." Moore says to Gold.

Her Majesty is probably there too, so it'll work out.

Intent is to briefly invade Afina's thread for a moment, obviously.

I'll weave you in over there shortly.

Once Afina leaves you, Elena appears, "Sorry, you missed her by like two minutes," The ghost girl informs you, "She just left with her mother and Baleruk to Arborea."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 04:44:32 PM
"That's all right. Just let me know when she's back, then." Moore says with a smile. He turns to Gold. "It looks like we're a bit on hold for now, but from what Afina said, I really doubt Jaela would have any issue with trying to redeem those items. Is there anything we can do in the meantime?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 01, 2016, 11:01:54 PM
"Yes. Could you introduce me to members of Aurora?" Gold asks, "I've not yet met many people."

Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 11:33:04 PM
"Of course, it'd be my pleasure and honor to do so." Moore says. "You're familiar with the portal system, first and foremost?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"Yes," Gold answers.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Moore nods. "Let's go to the courtyard and see who's there, then." He does just that!

Besides normal troops, you notice the following.

Mirima and Finnegan are having a quiet conversation just outside Elrisa's tower. No idea what it's about, but they look a bit tense.

Moonlight is leading Mei, Rosa and Balyss through some casual training. Looks to be focused on mace skills.

Canderella and Ebony are having tea amid the phase spiders, chatting away amicably.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 01, 2016, 11:57:50 PM
Moore will point everyone out individually so Gold at least knows their names.. "Let's go get you introduced to Miss Canderella and Ebony first." Moore says with a smile before he'll go in that direction and wave an arm so they know he's coming.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 12:01:50 AM
You can hear them chatting away. Canderella says, "That he was so big was really the problem."

Ebony merely raises an eyebrow, sipping her tea.

"I wouldn't know about THAT," Canderella demurs with a smile, "He was too tall to get through the dungeon's doorways without crawling. Any tight spaces were flat out of the question. It rather put a damper on the clear out the dungeon fast scheme."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Moore will clear his throat as he gets closer, to make sure he doesn't eavesdrop on anything!
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 12:15:28 AM
"My my, I know you heard that," Canderella calls, "Moore, come on over and have a seat."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 02, 2016, 12:18:23 AM
Moore laughs. "Was it for my benefit, then?" He'll fly over to take a seat. "Miss Canderella, Miss Ebony, this is Goldanariux."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 12:26:57 AM
"It's really too bad," Canderella laughs, "If Ebony hadn't played it like that, I'd have asked you if you wanted join our discussion about his thing being too big."

"Ahem," Gold simply clears his throat and takes a seat as well.

"Oh?" Canderella looks over, "Pardon, I don't believe we've met. Canderella and that is Ebony. If you're the crusading type, I assure you that my Abyss days are little but pleasant nostalgia now. I serve Talos, so there is no need to breathe fire on me, dragon."

"Hm." Goldanariux meets her gaze with calm curiousity, "The name or eyes that see past lies?"

"Oh, the name. Dragons have the most elaborate names." She leans forward just a bit, "The double a vowel is a giveaway. I've met many dragons who repeat a vowel after a consonant like that in their full names. A quirk of draconic's structure, I believe."

Gold smiles, slightly. "A conversation with a succubus that lead to intelligent conversation instead of dragon fire. How novel. You're a student of languages?"

"Oh, once upon a time. I've forgotten most of it, but the double vowel of  dragon names is a bit of trivia that stuck with me. Malasrena, an old and fiesty red, had the opinion that a dragon without that is an uncultured cur, closer to a wyvern than a wyrm."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 02, 2016, 12:37:37 AM
Moore laughs a little bit at the conversation. "I'm not much of a linguist myself, but I've picked up several over time just because It's hard to sing songs and give people a good story if you can't speak with them."

He glances over to Gold at that, "Maybe I should introduce you as just 'Gold' from here on and let people make their own assumptions. Actually, Canderella, there have to be other succubi out there that aren't all evil, can't there? I don't know, I guess I'm just a sucker for a good redemption story, so I always hold out hope that there are people out there that defy odds."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 12:45:25 AM
"Yes, I'd rather like to know as well," Gold says, "Even if your taste in dragon friends is poor."

"Oh, I'm making up for it," Canderella says airily, "When Talos moved to Nature's Heart, he gave us all a choice. Become free agents and stay in the Abyss or continue to serve and follow him. Those that chose to go with him were changed. We lost the evil part of our nature. We didn't get anything to replace it, it's just gone. Less a redemption story and more of being a sidelight to divine politics. We're exceptions, but not by our own hand."

"I've heard of Talos and Torm. The scales balance in the end, they cannot be set wrong forever." Gold says, "How many celestials chose to follow Torm's path into the darkness?" Gold meets Canderella's eyes, "How do you like your life without evil?"

As they talk, Moore happens to glance to the side. He sees Surraruthru flying on over towards all of you.

"It's different. Part of me's gone and I've had to learn to live without that. You learn to fill the void, adapt and become who you are. In some ways it focuses you to your core personality, courtesy of a great deal of self reflection. Not all of my fellow succubi are prone to that level of introspection, but even most find time to think in between throwing thunder and lightning around. You overcome it, you grow, you become who you are once more."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Iron Dragoon on September 02, 2016, 12:48:13 AM
Surraruthru wings in and circles the group, inspecting everyone, especially 'Gold,' before landing next to Canderella.

"Hello." Surraruthru stares at Gold, waiting to see what kind of attitude this 'Gold' will have.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 12:55:38 AM
Gold gives you a look, "Greetings, Faerie Dragon," Gold says in draconic. ""I am Goldanariux. Is this your territory?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 02, 2016, 12:56:30 AM
"Hi Surraruthru." Moore says with a smile. "This is Gold --...ah, it looks like you probably know that already..." He trails off, glancing over. "Canderella, I never really thought about good and evil as... mm... parts of your being, I guess. That's a very different perspective that I've never thought about. I'd love to discuss that more sometime with you, if you don't mind."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Iron Dragoon on September 02, 2016, 12:59:14 AM
Surraruthru snorts and replies in draconic as well.

"No, this place is crowded. Baelruk, Arrel, Hope, you, and me. I'm working to cut out a section for myself, though. I used to have a grove on Lifasa, with my family. I plan to create a grove here. I am Surraruthru. I see you've met Moore. He's quite the industrious one."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 02:18:50 PM
"Crowded," Gold agrees, "Busy with humanoids and spirits everywhere."

"Oh, we do keep busy," Canderella also agrees, "You don't really understand it until you have it, Moore. It's like describing eating to a creature without a mouth."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"Goldanariux, I've come to ask you for a favor. I know you're newly arrived and have no real cause to help, but I'm short on time to convince you. I need information on a daemon."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 02, 2016, 02:33:40 PM
Moore nods to Canderella. "I think I understand at least the basic concept, anyway. It's probably more in my nature to be care-free, for example." He glances over at Surraruthru and Gold's conversation and decides to not let them know he can totally understand them.

"I wonder what an angelic succubus would look like." Moore says with a bit of a chuckle. "It's an odd thing to think about."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 02:44:25 PM
"There's one over in Brightwater. Her name's Mial, she curates a gallery," Canderella says, "She looks like a succubus as of now, but that might change." She considers, "Physical transmutations happen, but succubi are already beautiful, unlike many fiends."

Gold inclines his head forward and replies in draconic, "I will hear you out. What fiend do you seek?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 02, 2016, 02:47:50 PM
"Are you the only one of Talos' followers who ended up coming here?" Moore asks. "Or maybe I should ask -- do -you- want any of his other followers to be here?" He asks again, this time with a grin.

"Secretus. Hoarder of lost knowledge, resides in Hades. I believe he and the Sword of Myr are hunting each other. I hope to find him and force a confrontation, which will hopefully cause the sword to show. I'd prefer to capture Secretus, as a daemon of lost and forgotten knowledge would prove of great benefit, but information on him is, by his nature, scarce."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 02, 2016, 02:54:52 PM
"Oh, that would spoil the mystery." Canderella laughs, "As of now, I'm the only one. We stay busy. Before Aurora, I had spent centuries studying the elemental planes. A deep investigation of farming came with it, to better understand how the elements grow and build."

"Ah yes, working the field," Ebony smiles, "How many fields suffered lightning strikes until you got it right?"

"Only a few!" Canderella retorts, "It's not difficult, not truly. It's time consuming without magic, since crops take time to grow, maintain and fertilize properly."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 02, 2016, 02:59:58 PM
"Farming, huh? I'm trying to picture you with the quintessential farming attire and it just doesn't quite fit for some reason." Moore says with a grin. "Well, you know me, I'm trying to recruit more people into our folds, so if there's anyone you know of you think might need some prodding to come join us, let me know." He says with a look over at Ebony. "Of course, you as well, Miss Ebony."

"Oh, him." Canderella rolls her eyes, "Way back, I got into a disagreement with a group of daemon cultists. They wanted to corrupt a city and run it, I wanted to corrupt a city and run it. You know how that sort of thing goes. Anyway, when I got down to the last one, I wormed some information out of them. They claimed to serve that daemon, though they'd burned any records. They largely fought by misdirection, illusion and lies. They had two separate fake bases before the real one. Convincing setup too, would've fooled most."

"Oh, I loathe tea," Canderella interjects smoothly, "I only drink it because Ebony likes it."

Gold pauses just before speaking, glancing at the two.

Ebony frowns, "Truly?"

"Truly," Canderella chuckles, "How long have women been swallowing unpleasant things to make others happy? It's hardly anything new. Besides, the ambiance tea provides is top notch. Far better thank drunkenness with wine or excess energy from sugary juices."

"...' Ebony tries to frown, but it doesn't last. "Thank you. I think?"

"You're welcome," Canderella brushes a bit of her hair out of her face.

Moore blinks, then starts to laugh. "You could always put your favorite drink into a teacup if you just wanted to preserve the ambiance of the whole ordeal. But, in that case, what do you generally like to drink, Canderella? Actually, you too, Gold." Moore asks. "I'm usually partial to fruit juices, but the super sweet ones don't really do it for me."

"Water," Gold says, "Nothing really competes with it, though finding pure water is difficult without magic."

"Water? Oh, pure water, yes." Canderella agrees, "That may be my favorite. You too?" She flashes a smile at Gold.

"It's the best thing if you can find it. Bodies need water, anything else is less healthy." Gold says, "A healthy body..."

"Leads to a healthy mind," Canderella finishes, the two meeting eyes.

Ebony watches this silently and then to Moore, "I'm going to stretch my legs," she announces, "Join me, Moore."

"Canderella should know better, though it may just be practice for her," Ebony mentions as you walk, "She's refined for her origins and while she is what she is, she isn't a mindless bimbo incapable of thinking or other things. Intellectual is a good word choice for her."

"How true," Ebony agrees, "We are all unique. I once served Baator, though I saw the error of my ways and repented. Few do that, go as deep as I did and manage to save their soul. I have never heard of a pixie serving a member of the Hebdomad, as far as you go."

"I wonder if that was a secret power that Medi gave this place." Moore says with a grin. "I'm still not really clear how I ended up in Venya to begin with, but... it seems Erathaol has something in mind for me, so for right now I'm content in following whatever path fate has laid out for me."

Moore nods. "I'm glad we're starting to push out to recruit more people, also. I think there was a bit of complacency around here... well, I'm still new, so maybe that's not really fair to say. Either way, I'm glad new people are showing up to aid us."

You head in and find the court busy. Everyone's around, chatting and talking. However, the throne's empty, though Lady Skye stands before it. You also spot Crystal talking with several other pixies, nymphs and satyrs a ways away.

Your presence gets a few nods and the music - a lively lute piece - picks up a bit more as you arrive.

Hm, is this about Lief?

He smiles and nods to the other court-goers and flies over towards Lady Skye, bowing properly before her. "Lady Skye -- I presume I know the occasion, but might I ask regardless? I didn't expect this many people, to be honest, regardless."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Ding ding ding.

"Of course." Moore says with a smile. "Although I never met him, I have heard many stories about his valor and accomplishments. I hope one day to be as well-regarded. Since the Court seems to be in this current state, I will leave you and the others to your celebration, but I will be around Aurora if my services are necessary." He will bow again at that. "By your leave, then."

"Enter," Ilsenine calls. Ilsenine's room is well decorated with plants, though beyond that it's a little basic, stripped down from the other rooms. It's also dominated by one of the healing beds from the infirmary. She flutters above it in the air, "Moore," she smiles faintly. "You've come to court?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 05, 2016, 05:24:32 PM
A healing bed? How strange...

"Your Majesty." Moore says, bowing respectfully. "I wanted to come see if there was any need for my services, but I neglected to consider you all might be having a celebration of life for Lief. My apologies for being neglectful in that regard. Ah, did Afina have a chance to speak to you about my consideration for Willah's items?"

"To life our lives is the greatest honor for Lief. There is no offense, for her always lived his life with vigor, even if it meant defying this court." A sad little smile shows on her face, "He was never the most enthralled with the court, yet he did our court and Aurora honor with his life and his death."

After that she says, "She mentioned then. Please, tell us about them again."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Moore nods. "I wish to try and purify her items for use for us here. I didn't want to do anything unless I had spoken to you about it... not because of any official capacity, but..." He frowns at this. "I can't imagine how it feels to be betrayed by someone like that, so if you, again -- not as Her Majesty of this Court, but just as the woman, Illsenine, just wanted them destroyed or sealed off, then I would abide that decision." Moore explains. "As of now, I'm waiting for Jaela to return, since she seemed to want to try something with Yian's signet ring before, but I guess it never happened."

"In that case, wait for Jaela and consult with me again after it. I will yield any input if they are needed for a higher calling." Ilsenine flutters down on her bed. "Moore, there is another matter that must be addressed. "Sit next to me."

Moore shakes his head. "I suppose I never had the chance to tell you my story." Moore says with a bit of a smile. "My life was a bit... unorthodox for a pixie. I'm originally from Arborea, but you probably wouldn't know it looking at me these days." He smiles again, but a bit more sadly this time.

"To make a long story short, the regular life of a pixe just didn't appeal to me. I liked talking to people too much -- directly involving myself more than was considered 'proper,' I suppose. Anyway, I wandered, met people, moved on... and..." He takes a breath. "Well, something happened. I don't know what. I... don't think it really matters at this point, but... I went somewhere -- another place. All I remember from there is a sheer, overpowering light. I still have fragments of memory of the people I met there -- somehow or another, when I was at Yggdrasil, I felt them -- I knew they had escaped the place like I did." He explains.

"I woke up in Venya... and I have no idea what happened other than that. I don't even know how long I was there -- I've honestly never gone back to Arborea to even check. It's... It feels like it's the 'Old Moore's' life now. Whatever happened to put me in that place... I've made peace with it. I no longer need to know what happened to me -- I have an inkling of it, a gut feeling, but... well. I'm here now, and I'm happy to be here." He finishes, nodding, as if he's happy with that story.

"Ah... I'm sorry, that was a bit of a ramble." He says, laughing just a bit.

Queen Ilsenine nods, perhaps to herself. "The here and now, not the past. A good fey attitude, otherwise we would all lose ourselves in contemplation of our past lives. That place of light hardly matters compared to our current struggles."

You have a momentary feeling. He got out. He made it home. The feeling fades after, like a jolt of deja vu.

For whatever reason, Moore smiles, reaching up to rub at one of his eyes for a moment.

"I agree. Ah... so, Your Majesty, if... I may." Moore starts, clearing his throat. "This is the first time I've found myself in this particular situation... you read about them all the time in storybooks -- the vagabond that manages to catch the eye of the princess with his rugged looks and free will that allows her to escape her mundane palatial life... they usually end either happily ever after or tragically, I've found..." He chuckles a small bit at that, before he takes a breath and looks serious for a moment -- his smile gone.

"Regardless, Your Majesty, I do not wish to cause you complications in your own Court, so I suppose I will just be direct and ask -- how do you wish to continue with... well, let us call a duck a duck, shall we? How do you wish to continue with our relationship?" He asks. "The last thing I want is to put you in a place where you are unhappy."

"It sounds like I may need to pay attention to this, so I'll pass." Moore says. "All I know is that someone by that name betrayed a follower of Waukeen some time ago after pretending to be in love with them. Stole his fortune and even poisoned his dog. When I did some magical digging it seemed like she was hiding in Limbo somewhere, but that was all I could garner. I had a feeling that there was more to this than what was on the surface, though, because a petty thief or murderer doesn't, you know, go to Limbo." Moore explains.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 06, 2016, 03:22:00 PM
"Well yes," Tannin takes another pull, "Plum brandy. It's different," he says, capping it and putting it away. "Alurae's one of Malcanthet's seductresses. A mortal cultist making her bones for the Razor Throne by doing all the things a succubus might do. Some are long plans, some are short little things like what happened to your friend. She's done this before, vicious piece of work. See, but I got the inside information. She's hiding out in a stable pocket of Limbo named Farrdale. It's keyed, so you need a magical token to get in or you'll just bounce right on out."

He pauses and takes a breath, "See, there's the catch, yeah? You don't got the key, you get bounced out. You have the key, you're in good with the death slaad who owns it. Miserable piece of work, that one. All the grace of a balor and the looks of a plague victim. Don't have a name on the motherfucker, but sources agree he's a death slaad. Get someone good at that and using magic items and they can probably finagle a way in, though."

"Who needs keys when you can just break down the door?" Moore says with a grin. "I suppose we don't have the ability to just do that, though, so I suppose the next step is to find a key so we can remedy a few problems... it sounds like this Farrdale place is pretty awful."

Technically speaking no, because the last time was just on Algorand and that led to the Samgan Empire, which I didn't do a lot more digging into at the time. If you wanted to roll it all together that's fine though.

[12:33] <Plushie_Ithea> Nephrite roll for Plushie_Ithea < 54 > [d20=18]

Even with scholar's touch and Sage Vul'lath helping, it takes hours and hours of reading. Moore's eyes are tired, his wings droop and he has to struggle not to face plant onto the book he's reading. It's a recent addition to Aurora's library, an account of various Prime worlds. Skimming, your spells long since expended, you casually read, "...and the lost island Algorand..."

Man, this is such a waste of time. You've spend all day read-wait a sec. Moore blinks his eyes and reads it again. "The stories of Makim and the lost island Algorand." It's just a casual summary of lore from various Prime worlds. The story is of a powerful wizard named Makim, who stole a rich and fertile island from the world and hid it away. Brave Prince Rennard challenges him but was soundly defeated, again proving the might of wizardry over common sword play. It then goes onto mention that the myth is popular in the Samgan Empire, a wizard-based meritocracy.

[13:19] <Nephrite> roll 1d20+22+15 K:L
[13:19] <Kobot> Nephrite rolled 1d20+22+15 K:L --> [ 1d20=9 ]{46} (If the Library bonus applies, which I presume it does, then this is 61)

Post by: Anastasia on September 07, 2016, 02:29:10 PM
You spend hours looking, but no luck. The library just doesn't have anything else on it. From the one source you found before, it's likely this is fairly new information. "A relatively new Prime world is my guess," Sage Vul'lath says. "Information may not have disseminated far yet, and even then, finding out about one Prime world of many is difficult."

"Then it may simply be easier to go there directly and find out from the locals." Moore agrees. "Actually, Sage, I have a question -- since I'll be Gating there, but I've never actually -been- there before, is there any kind of advice you can give me so I don't just end up in the middle of an ocean or something?"

Moore nods. "Thank you. I'll see if I can bring back some books to add to the library."

With that, he's off to see if anyone else would like to go.

He doesn't really have much of a preference on specifically who, but will ask around if anyone who's still in Aurora would like to go. In theory it'd be just one more person along with Dana so as not to overload you.

I suppose someone more geared for healing would probably round out the group the best. Moore can do it, but isn't great at it, and Dana just smashes things. So maybe Balyss if she wanted to go?
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 07, 2016, 03:40:09 PM
You find Balyss in her quarters. On knocking the door opens just enough for her head to poke out, "Oh, it's you two. Hold on, I'm not decent." The door's closed again, Dana rolling her eyes and muttering something. Soon enough the door opens fully, Balyss wrapped in a fluffy robe, with the back cut out for her wings, which wrap around her.

"So I got a vision that I needed to clean my closet out and see what parts of my wardrobe need replacing. I was going to head out to take care of some personal business," Balyss goes back to her closet and shuts the door, "So I assumed something would happen to justify it. Selune smiles on your venture, whatever it's going to be."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 07, 2016, 03:44:05 PM
Moore blinks, then laughs a bit. "Selune must care a lot about your clothing options, then. Dana and I are going to a new prime world to investigate a few things that might lead us to a new ally for Aurora. I'm not exactly sure how long the excursion will be, but I can get us there and back if we need to return before our operation is through." He explains.

"I doubt she does at all, this was just her way of having me be here. I accept." Balyss says. "Give me some time to get ready, pray and get my armor on."

"And bind those udders," Dana rolls her eyes, "Shit, with those you're like...OW!" Dana says as Balyss casually hurls a stone paperweight at her, right off her head. Dana grins, "Shiiiiit, why the fuck didn't you just say you wanted me to shut the fuck up?"

"Ahem," Balyss says, "When do you want to leave, Moore?"

All around you are rolling plains. Trees shed their leaves slowly in a shower of red and gold. The air is cool and nippy, the embrace of autumn hinted at. You stand in a little grove not far from what looks to be a rising hill with a road atop it. You can see lots of foot traffic on it, as well as horses, donkeys and wagons.

Balyss stretches, "We're all going to stand out, so I don't think there's much point in being subtle."

Moore nods. "I agree. We may have even drawn attention already, depending on who's watching this area. Hopefully they've seen other races besides humans here." With that, Moore casts Lay of the Land to figure out where exactly they are and what's close by.

The immediate area ahead is the outer ring of a large, circular city called Samark. It dominates much of things around and a river bisects it, with the city on both sides of Allegas River. Beyond it there's major roads going in all for cardinal directions and lots of little towns and farms. That sort of thing.

Moore nods. "We're going into a city called Samark. At least we can know that much... let's see what happens." With that said, he'll lead the others to the main road and start following it towards Samark proper. Hopefully there's no "No fey" law or something...

You head to the road. Most of the people are humans on a glance, but you also see dwarves, a couple of elves and a couple of shorter humanoids you don't get a look at - as well as a pair of what looks like catfolk. Your appearance immediately gets attention, with the road being cleared before you. More than a few are also quietly murmuring arcane words, clearly casting spells.

A chance to react to the spellcasting if you want to, be it an interruption, Spellcraft or something else.

Let's go with Spellcraft for right now. Take 10 for 47.

Four people are casting - two humans, an elf and one of the catfolk. They're all casting detect magic.

There's really no harm in that -- in fact, it's what he'd do in that case.

"Friends, my name is Moore. These are my comrades, Dana and Balyss. We are of a place called Aurora, which I imagine none of you have heard of. We come in peace and mean none of you any harm." Moore says, trying to hopefully field off any immediate fears.

"We mean only to enter your city of Samark for information. If there are people in power that we must speak to first, we do not wish to skirt the laws of your land, so we will abide by them to the best of our ability." He further says.

The crowd largely bows or steps further back. Dana rolls her shoulders and grins, "See, that's what I thought. If it helps, I'm a fucking princess, so out of the way." She begins to stride forward, towards Samark.

Balyss smiles gently and in a voice much the same, "I serve Selune." she takes to the air, wings flapping as she hovers along instead of walking, "I bring glad tidings and blessings. Do not be afraid." She then glances at Dana, "Even at her, for her bark is much worse than her bite."

Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"I'm sure we'll be introduced to the laws of the land soon enough, but I have a rather strong inkling that this is one of those magic-dominated places where the better mage you are the more respect you get. It's just a hunch, though." Moore says, continuing on.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 08, 2016, 02:43:58 PM
The three of you continue on. People get out of the way on sight of you, and you catch the occasional person using detect magic. You soon approach the city, the outer wall woven and latticed steel wires, several layers woven together so that it's solid in intricate and eye-catching patterns. Based on your knowledge of arcane ward, those patterns are arcane wards as well.

The normal guards are there, just like in most city. Four of them as people part, and the fifth is not dressed in armor nor carries a spear. This one is dressed in a leather tunic and green hose. A belt of pouches is worn. "I am Maly of the Second Circle," he introduces himself, stepping past the guards. His eyes glisten with blue light. "The magic on you is overwhelming," he murmurs in a tone of reverence, "Great ones, what do you wish?"

"We are visitors from another plane -- though none of us from the same originally, we are members of Aurora. I do not believe word of our cause has reached your world yet, so please, allow us to introduce ourselves. I am Moore, I follow the deity Erathaol of the Hebdomad. This is Dana, she follows... ...um... I'm pretty sure she follows 'fighting and drinking.'" He grins a bit at Dana at that, then continues. "This is Balyss, she is a follower of Selune, the Moon Maiden."

He continues on after that. "We are seeking information, but considering the circumstances, we would be happy to speak with your rulers so as not to presume to simply trounce on your local laws and customs. We wish for our first meeting with your Prime to be one where we can learn from each other to create a bond of friendship and diplomacy for the future." Moore finishes.

"Yeah, and to cut the bullshit? We're way stronger than any of you and we're here for a reason. Be nice, bend over and take it and you'll have fucking problems," Dana says, hefting her dragon shield.

"I am favored of Selune," she pauses and draws the Sword of the Moon, "This is her token of my-"

Maly takes one look at it and groans, stumbling and turning away, holding his face with his hands. "Such magic! I am not worthy to look at it!" he manages.

"...yes, that." Balyss says with a little sigh, "Please take us to the ruler of this town and we can get to business."

"...Ah, perhaps we should talk to someone of the higher circles... er, if that's the correct order it goes in, anyway." Moore says a bit sheepishly. "We mean no offense by displaying our magic, this is simply standard fare for us in terms of protections. But yes, it is as Balyss says, if we can speak to whomever rules this city, that would be excellent."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"I insist," Maly says, stepping back and starting to cast a spell.

Chance to ID the spell or interrupt if you like, Moore.

It looks like an extremely stripped down and modified version of sending. A single impulse towards another person, nothing more.

Within half a minute, a man appears you. He's old and the classical image of a wizard. Staff, robes, pointed hat, white beard. He wears red and simply offers his hands, "I will take you along. I am Erga of the Seventh Circle."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 08, 2016, 03:51:16 PM
So it really does go in that order.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Erga. I'll save our introductions since I have a feeling we'll be meeting more soon." Moore says with a smile.

Dana's really being patient with all of this, he'll have to buy her something nice for that.

Dana looks bored, but is keeping her tongue in check for once. Somehow.

A moment later and you are in what looks like a library. Thick tomes of every color fill the bookshelves, many with writing in languages you don't know. Ones you can read have titles like, 'Arcanist' 'Spellbook of Pepa' or 'Runes and potions'.

"All of you have great power," Erga says, "Magic is strong on all of you. What do you want here, travelers from beyond?"

"It's his thing," Dana goes to a chair and plops down, ignoring the groan of wood from it. "Ask him."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 08, 2016, 04:13:11 PM
Moore smiles a bit at Dana and shrugs helplessly.

"My name is Moore, this is Dana, and this is Balyss. Balyss follows Selune and I follow Erathaol. We are with an organization known as Aurora, which aims to bring good to all of Creation -- we tend to find ourselves fighting against Hell and all of its allies. Please accept my apologies if we caused any concern or fear in your citizens here, it was not our intent -- but we knew that we would quickly be noticed and did not wish to hide ourselves for fear of misunderstandings."

"We have come here in search of the Buried Prince." Moore explains. "I have been given reason to believe it will help us find Algorand, which is something that will lead us yet somewhere else. In addition to that, while we're here, we would be happy to enter into diplomatic relations with your Prime, if such a thing is permissible and wanted. We are always in search of new allies who wish to do good."

"Some time ago, I found myself in another place when I got a bit lost in the Deep Ethereal." Moore explains. "Through divinations on my part, I learned that the person who created it could be an ally to our cause, but in order to find it, I needed to find the lost gate in Algorand." Moore says. "Further divinations told me that I would find it within the Samgan Empire, but I needed to seek out the Buried Prince." Moore says.

"Essentially, we are seeking further allies in our fight against Hell. It's a rather convoluted diplomatic mission, but so it goes sometimes." He smiles. "If you have reason to doubt my words, then I'm certain you or someone else are capable of casting truthfulness spells."

"To tell you this would be a great service," Erga replies, "Offering us powerful spells would be expected."

"Right, whatever," Dana says, "Aurora has that in fucking spades."

Balyss hmms, "I'm sure there's a few we could spare, though we should check first. Arcane spells and not divine ones?"

"Yes, arcane spells only," The wizard says, "Preferably ones that can be cast by a wizard or sorcerer."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 08, 2016, 04:47:31 PM
Moore nods. "That can be arranged. If you would agree to give us the information now, I give you my word as a follower of the wisdom of Erathaol that we will return and work with you and whomever you report to to create an alliance between us and Aurora. Your comrade, Maly? The spell he cast-- the one modified from sending, it was quite interesting." Moore says with a smile. "I think that we could both benefit heavily from a diplomatic alliance."

"In fact, as proof of my words, I would be happy to teach you a spell I came up with myself, although generally only those with a bardic inclination can cast it, although there are some similarities I've always noticed between that and wizard and sorcerer magics." Moore says.

Dead silence. Total stop. Erga seems frozen before he says slowly, "Impossible! There's nothing past the ninth circle to mortals, and only the greatest of us have managed it!"

"We are not mortals, are we?" Balyss stands, wings spreading out. "Shall I show you a spell of the 10th circle, or a sword forged by Selune herself?" she draws the Sword of the Moon. "I would suggest you embrace the idea of the fantastic rather than denying it."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Moore clears his throat a bit. "Balyss has the right of it, I don't think any of us are, actually." Moore says. Oh dear, is he breaking some sort of rule...? Oh well.

"It is as she says, however, Sir Erga. There is magic past the ninth circle, most humans and mortals just end up stopping there. However, once they open their mind more and pass that limitation, they unlock even greater feats and accomplishments." Moore says, hamming it up just a little bit.

"It is why Aurora is so important to Creation, we accept any and all who would aid us in our battles against Hell. We have people from all walks of life -- magic user or not." He spreads his arms out at this. "Again, you can see the truth before your eyes -- the magic you can see on us defies the strength that should be possible to you, does it not?" He smiles at that. "Please, allow us to be the first to open your mind to new knowledge."

Hey, even if he's breaking a rule, he's certain Erathaol would be happy about spreading knowledge.

Something's nagging at him though, something about this city of wizards is really familiar. Wasn't there someone once who really liked the idea of... ...nah, must be his imagination.

It's a nice study. The wood used is of a color and grain you don't immediately know, but it looks nice. A rich, deep brown with whorls here and there. "Maybe. The might have a few useful unique spells." Balyss admits, "It's just that...Selune help me, I've lost all perspective about the mortal plane. I'm already thinking they can't match our power, they need to be guided and protected according to Selune's will."

Moore smiles, breaking into a bit of a laugh. "I'm sure Dana could drink everyone here into alcoholic poisoning before she got drunk, too. Well, you also have to keep in mind that this might just be the ruling person of this particular city. I imagine that their head... wizards are probably somewhere else, but who knows. Either way, if someone from here was strong enough to create their own demiplane, then I think that warrants some attention."

At that moment Erga comes in, "I apologize," He says, "But there has been a delay. This may be some time, so would you like to be shown to guest quarters?"

"Sir Erga." Moore says, folding his arms. "Since we've come here, we have been extremely generous and understanding of your local customs and your rules. We have not flaunted our power or forced you to do anything against your will. In fact, I think we've gone above and beyond what you'd expect of us in order to come to an agreement for information to help both our parties. Yet, here you stand, stalling us for something -- for some reason."

He looks over to Dana, then back at Erga. "I can assure you, my friend here doesn't like to have her time wasted. So I will give you an opportunity to explain to me what it is you're trying to trying to accomplish here -- and let me make this perfectly, completely, you-can-see-through-a-crystal-ball clear. If there is any deception in what you tell us, I think you'll be the first person in your Prime to be subjected to a spell beyond the 9th Circle, and I don't think you'll enjoy the experience." At this, he opens his arms out.

"So, would you care to try again?" He asks, tilting his head slightly.

You gate back and find an ancient man waiting in the study for you. He has a beard down to his middle and is otherwise bald. He wears blue robes trimmed with gold and a chain around his neck, which is tucked into the robe. Standing behind him are two men wearing metal masks, hiding their faces. They wear robes of black and carry staves.

"I am Ule of the Eighth Circle," The old man greets you, "Moore of circle unknown, Dana of circle unknown and Balyss of circle unknown. Am I correct?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 13, 2016, 01:45:30 PM
"Ah... in your terminology, yes, that would be correct." Moore says. "We are from a place called Aurora, it is both an organization as well as a place of its own -- ah, but perhaps you already know that. I understand you had time to do divinations on this subject." Moore says.

"Oh, um... well, as you can probably tell, I'm not much of a wizard, but I am familiar with the 8th level of bardic arcane casting and the 6th level of some divine magic." Moore says. "Dana, you use mental magic, don't you? Does that even have circles?" He asks, glancing back at her.

"Seventh, if you really fucking care. Like it matters what it is if it kills you or helps you," Dana says.

"The tenth." Balyss says, meeting his eyes, "Selune walks with me, I wield magic beyond mortal means."

Ule is silent as he considers, "The divinations point to our destruction if we help you. Ruin follows you like flowers after spring rains."

"Samgan burns," His voice raises as he points at you, an old, gnarled finger shaking. "Catastrophe comes from the sky. The earth is rent apart. Fields of grain turn to ash and the people go hungry."

The two black robed men behind him shuffle forward slightly, closer to Ule.

"He we fucking go," Dana rolls her eyes, "One, fuck prophecies, we're in the business of kicking those in the balls until they die. Two, you can bet your ass we're going to cast our own superior divinations to see how full of shit you are. Three, fuck you and fuck your fearmongering cocksheathes back there. Do you think you're going to intimidate us or chase of off?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"Dana." Moore says, shaking his head at her. "They're probably more scared of us than they think we are of them."

"Sir Ule." Moore begins, looking him in the eye. "You yourself know that divinations give you a glimpse into the future, but are not to always be fully relied upon for all aspects of life, do you not? But whatever happens, I give you my word as someone who has been touched by the light of Mount Celestia that we would never allow destruction to befall your world because of us. If Hell comes, then we will stand upon your soil and fight it. We would never -ever- allow for this to come to pass because of actions that we've taken. If just our arriving here has caused a problem, then we will work to make it right again." He insists. "I have no way to prove to you the intent of our actions except through what I hope you can hear in the sincerity of my words."

At this, he takes a breath. "However, if you simply wish us to leave, then we will do so." Moore says. "We only came here for information on someone... if that is all you wish to share with us, then that is fine. If you do not even wish to share that information at this point... well, I won't try and force you. But I think it would be a very disappointing experience all together if nothing at all came of this except fear of others."

Ule reaches into his robes, tightly holding a pendant in his fist. You don't really get a look at it, hand around it before he brings it out.

"Yes, if you want to banish the most powerful magic you'll ever see, go ahead. We can take care of those problems and more, Selune will guide us." Balyss adds, stepping forward. "Selune lights the way for lost, wayward travelers. She will light your way forward, if you only ask."

"Please, we will do all we can to help your people and show you what lies beyond what you thought were your limits -- and we will not allow Hell or any evil power to come and destroy your world. You do not need magic to know our words are true." Moore says.

"Balyss is right -- the Light of Selune, or the Wisdom of Celestia... can you so easily turn those away? As I said when I came here a day ago, all we came here for was information -- we could have forced it out of someone or just threatened them. Detect magic, excuse me. Typo.

You detect defensive magic - greater mage armor, a death ward and greater heroism. There's also a nondetection spell active, one you overcame. The broken amulet has fading magic - some sort of minor magic to calm him, along with an insidious little enchantment to keep him loyal to someone.

"No," The old man says, quickly regaining himself. "Over a century ago, Dresus of the Ninth Circle traveled the planes in search of unfound arcana. He came back with a ritual to bind that spirit into a magic circle, where it has served us faithfully since then. It has no name, it is simply a spirit of knowledge."

You're lead through rooms - rooms that twist and turn, bigger and smaller than they should be. A dark room with no windows, lit only by smokeless torches. Before you have a chance to stand there and cast spells, Ule steps forward. "Why did you enchant me?" he demands, the two black robed wizards behind him all the while. "Explain yourself, spirit!"

The spirit watches all of you with unnatural calmness, "I work for the good of the empire. Destruction follows the path Aurora opens. I cannot allow you to ally with Aurora and risk everything, no matter how they tempt you. So I was bound to act, and so I shall act."

They're handed over. Balyss says sidelong to you, "Do you have a preference on the 10th circle spell I cast?"

"Whatever Selune feels fit to allow." Moore answers, simply and with a smile.

Balyss kneels in prayer, chanting in celestial, "Oh Selune, let sickness find no safe place here, now and forever!" A wave of cooling, soothing light floods out from Balyss, spreading out of the room in every direction.

Ule stares at the spell, struggling, "What was...that far..." he gets out, his jaw hanging open.

"All disease within a mile around me is gone." Balyss rises, "Sickness holds no power over Selune."

"I would never have....a 10th circle...this changes our entire theory of..." Ule mutters, before snapping out of it. He goes to a seat and sits, "How do you get past the ninth circle? Only a few of us have ever reached it, let alone a 10th circle."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Moore rubs his chin. "That's a hard question to answer, because it's different for everyone... It really depends on what you're willing to do -- I think a lot of it has to do with being willing to expand your mind... Actually, hold on." He casts a spell for some divine knowledge and another for a little bit of luck as he plumbs his knowledge for a better answer.

Is there a K:A check or something on this that he could draw on for a more specific answer?

Reaching past the ninth circle is hard. Some never do. Loosely speaking, the first nine circles of magic are magic mortals deal with and the circles beyond it are the affairs of outsiders, immortals and deities. There's no one method where someone learns to go past it. Some find it as a divine benediction. Others obtain it as a crowning jewel of their research. Yet others simply break through the barrier like it doesn't exist for them, while others find it as a result of advanced research into an arcane tradition or methodology.

Strictly speaking, mortals can obtain 10th level magic just fine. However, few pure mortals make it that far. The overwhelming majority of heroes never make it to 21st or higher level, many of those that do may not be classes suitable to this, or may lost caster levels in their casting class. Moreover, mortals are on a time limit. Even the most long lived mortal races are gone in the blink of an outsider's eye. Finally, many mortals with the potential to do so may not be fully mortal when they achieve 10th+ level magic. They may have become more than they are through their own efforts or through a patron. This is quite common, as epic level mortal heroes are highly valued and heavily recruited.

That contained seemingly IC and OOC terms, so forgive me since I want to make sure I don't break any fourth walls here with an explanation.

Moore taps his chin a few more times and then nods. "It's something that anyone can do, given enough time and devotion. It's just that... obviously, unless you somehow attain immortality or are blessed by a divine power, you won't ever be around long enough to do enough research or open your mind to the idea of magic past the 9th Circle." Moore says, looking over to Balyss with a smile. "If a deity like Selune, or Ohgma... Mystra, Erathaol... any of them that have a domain over knowledge or magic... if they touch you and give you their blessing, then you'll usually find yourself pushing past those sorts of limits."

At this, looks down at the ground and continues thinking. "Generally, up until the 9th circle is the domain of mortals, whereas past that is the domain of everything else. That doesn't mean it's impossible for a mortal to get there, but... generally, by the time they do, they won't be entirely mortal anymore because of their adventures and everywhere they've gone. Let me ask you something, Sir Ule -- that spirit in there..." He taps his foot in the air. "Do you think it's been holding you back? I mean, it seems to -really- not want us to be here, so... I think it might be possible that it's been trying to keep you all on a very narrow and limited path of knowledge for who knows how long, rather than trying to let you all mature and grow on your own."

"No. The spirit has aided for over a century," Ule says, "His advice has constantly been good, and the times we've defied his advice have ended in ruin. His predictions have always served the empire's greater benefit."

We had the end of one of our campaign functions today, so I haven't actually been at work most of the day!

Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 16, 2016, 11:31:59 PM
"It might fit," Ule says after a moment's consideration.

"So you fucking know who it is. Good, get on with instead of dancing around it like a virgin in front of her first cock." Dana gives him a level glare, "Fuck, you're acting like you're going to pop your storytelling cherry with this."

Ule's expression darkens and he says in a quiet voice, "One does not talk to a member of the Eighth Circle like that!"

"Stop it, both of you." Balyss interjects, "As Balyss of the TENTH Circle," she gives Ule an unimpressed look, "Swallow your pride and get on with it."

"The Buried Prince is a nom de guerre for a powerful wizard who lived about a long time ago," Ule says, "His name's lost, perhaps hidden by powerful magic or simply lost to the passing of the years. All that's known is that he shed his mortality for undeath and sequestered himself away deep underground." A pause for a deep breath, "We know where he is, but we do not choose to disturb him. A wizard of his age is within his rights to conduct his research as he sees fit."

"Ah, so then it sounds like The Buried Prince probably knows who it is we seek." Moore says, choosing to simply ignore the argument for the time being. "Would you please tell us where we can find him? I don't think he'd mind seeing guests like us."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"It may be so," Ule agrees, "My apologies for the offense, Lady Balyss of the Tenth Circle."

"It's forgiven," Balyss says, "Selune forgives our trespasses, so long as we ask with an open and regretful heart. The least I can do is do the same for others."

"Then I apologize again, for my next news is graver." Ule says, "We are aware of his outer defenses, as is only prudent. Only royalty can lower the fields of force around the path to his lair."

Dana just smirks, "Well shit, looks like your magic voice friend knew what was what after all."

Looks like a bog standard greater teleport. Woosh!

You're in a rather sparse forest. It's clammy and chilly here, a thin fog drifting about in places. Very little sun gets in despite the non-existent canopy. "These are the Chilled Woods. The locals believe them to be cursed with undead and stay away, though that's the talk of non-wizards." He gestures ahead, "Ahead teleportation magic is barred. Travel that way, to the north, for about ten minutes. You'll find a little cleft in the earth. It's easy to miss, we've put a blue marker stone. It'll stand out, check around it and you'll find it."

"See lich, burn lich in Selune's name. I learned that back in my acolyte days," Balyss cracks a lopsided smile, "But do exercise caution. Liches don't become liches lightly and are powerful, old and prepared."

"Whatever," Dana shrugs as she walks, "Can't be as bad as that other asshole Afina and I were going after. Would kick off apocalypse levels of badness if anyone serious threatened him. What a self absorbed motherfucking cunt. What sort of immature asshole does that? Oh no, I'm going to protect myself by threatening others instead of sacking up and acting like a man. "Hell no," Dana shakes her head as Balyss follows along. "He had an entire huge mountain ring around his fortress and was hyper prepared. It was no Aurora, but it was well prepared and more than capable of stopping anything that Prime could throw at them. We only scratched the surface too, there was probably a hell of a lot more and stronger past the mountains. That was basically his fuck off, go away layer of defenses. So yeah, I'd believe he'd do that and have it ready. He's that sort of motherfucker."

Nailed it, won't bother to roll the other two.

It's a 10ft drop into a narrow, tight cave. Dana strides along, armor scraping against the walls. Balyss floats down, Moore flying down safely. It's humid and mossy down here, the walls covered with the stuff. It's also pitch black in here, but your darkvision lets you see. It goes on a bit until it comes to a set of stone stairs going down. "This must be the start of it," Dana remarks, "Hopefully the fun hurries up and begins."

Not rolling the 1d6 fall damage since Dana has fast healing 2. It'll be gone before it matters.

"Yeah, probably some bullshit like that," Dana says, swinging at the barrier. A simple punch, one that hits...and makes the barrier vanish. Ahead the bare stone becomes worked brick, a carpeted path ahead.

"We understand the customs of your land." Moore says. "If it's knowledge you seek to trade in, then it's my duty to share it as a follower of Erathaol -- but in saying that, I would have to be sure that you meant to use it for a good cause. I'm sure you can at least agree that the idea of 'a wizard buried underground doing experiments forever' doesn't exactly have the most positive immediate connotations."

Moore takes a breath and then smiles. "However, I'm certainly willing to hear what you'd want in trade for the information and we can work from there. Are you aware of Aurora, before that? You seem much more aware of the outer world than the other denizens we've met thus far."

"I am aware of it," The voice confirms.

"Yeah, you have your shit together and look beyond because you got bored of that bullshit up there, didn't you? Oh, I'm the fifth circle so it makes up for the fact that I have a one inch dick," Dana rolls her eyes, "I'm sixth circle, I'm a real man now!"

"Most would be incinerated on the spot for your crudity," The golem moves to Dana, "But you are strong, so it is your right. I will trade the information for an anatomical chart of a pit fiend."

Moore rubs his chin. That doesn't really seem that that unreasonable, but maybe...

"May I make you a counter offer? Are you at all interested in leaving this place to further your research?" Moore asks. "I imagine that being down here offers its own comforts and keeps, as you said, the worthless, but... well, surely you've found your own limits here in this world?"

Ah, so it goes. It was worth a shot!

"Well, if you ever change your mind, you're free to contact me. I'm sure Aurora can always use more stalwart allies." Moore says, glossing over the fact that this guy is most likely a terrible lich but hey whatever!

He rubs his chin for a moment and casts a quick spell to get some luck. Improvisation, to be clear.

Is an anatomical chart of a pit fiend something that Aurora's library even has? Going beyond that, is there a knowledge check that could be used to pull that out so he could just draw it himself?
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 19, 2016, 03:49:18 PM
It's not a common sort of thing, you'd need to find it. Aurora's library might have it. You'd need both K:P and Heal ranks to make a chart of your own, as well as a specimen to dissect for it.

Moore sighs. This is really turning into more of an ordeal than he anticipated. Maybe this is what the the divination meant when it said to beware the cost.

"You don't happen to already have one handy, do you? I could make you one if you wanted. If not, then we'll come back." Moore says.

Intent after this, since I'm guessing the answer is no, will be to go outside and ask the others what they want to do from here.

"It seems to be the way of this particular world. I mean, we could barge in there and probably ruin the entire laboratory, but I'm not sure that would provide us with anything useful." Moore says with a bit of a shrug.

He turns and will head back the way they came until they're outside the cave, at which point he turns and looks at the other two.

"I'm not going to ask the two of you to go hunting for a pit fiend with me. This is something that can wait until an opportunity presents itself. I'm very sorry this has more or less been a waste of time for the two of you, that certainly wasn't my intention." Moore sighs again and bows a bit to both of them. He shakes his head afterwards, as if to clear it before he gets too lost in thought. "Well, in that case, once we're... er... done with them, as it were, I suppose..." He makes a face at that. "We'll have what we need. Still, I'm sorry I've basically dragged you all out onto what amounts to 'Do a bunch of stuff for other people, the adventure' so far. You return. "Well, we're back sooner than I expected," Balyss says, "I think I'm going to go take a soak before getting back to things, since I cleared out most of the day."

Dana walks along, "Unless you have a move right away?" she asks you.

Ball's in your court, what's next?

"Actually, I'm working on something that might make up for how boring all of this has been." Moore explains. "You see, there's a patron on Brightwater who I think I can convince to help Aurora out, but we have to right a wrong done to one of their citizens. Well, long story short, the citizen Moonlight and I found had a brother who was betrayed by Alurae, who is one of Malcanthet's seductresses. She's mortal, but is apparently trying -really- hard to not be by basically doing as much evil as she can." He turns his nose up at this, as if a stench just washed over him.

"To make a long story short, Tannin tracked her down to a place called Farrdale. We apparently need some sort of key to get in, but once we're in it's apparently a death slaad's home. I had intended to go there and deal with this Alurae person and anyone else who decided they wanted to pick a fight with Aurora while we were there. If you two were interested, I can all but assure you it'll be less boring once we get there. The problem is I'm not sure where to start when it comes to a key to the place... maybe Canderella?" He asks aloud.

"Sounds great," Dana says right away.

"Hmmm," Balyss asks, "What skill set do you need to get in? Is it a physical key or more metaphorical?"

"He said it's a magical token. I'd guess it's something that effectively unlocks a door to let you in." Moore says. "He basically just referred me to the generals though, I'm not really sure why any of them would know anything about this, though..."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"It might be possible to beat or overpower," Balyss says, "Why don't you go ask them and get back to me in an hour?"
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 19, 2016, 11:09:40 PM
Moore nods. In that case, then...

"Elena, can you tell me if Canderella is around and not still chatting it up with Gold?" Moore calls out. He'll start there and then try others afterwards.

Elena appears, "No, she's off with Calleigh now. Surraruthru was looking for her too, so you might need to get in line." She's dressed up like you today, a rather good recreation of your typical outfit.

"Do we have any experts on Limbo or slaad in general around?" He'll ask. He folds his arms and tilts his head. "It's not bad, but I'm not sure I fill the outfit out quite as well."

Post by: Anastasia on September 19, 2016, 11:27:29 PM
"Why thank you!" Elena smiles warmly, twirling about, "Funny you mention that, the moment you asked about the slaad, 27 got up from Hanna's bed and started heading to the portal."

Can't be substituted for a... what? He can't worry about it.

He'll go off to see Baleruk. Surely, that's who he meant, right? Not Gold? Oh well, he'll worry about that part later.

K:L for Limbo is useful.

"FARRDALE?!" Baleruk goes straight to a bellow, rising. His movement sends coins everywhere, Moore needing to duck to avoid getting brained by gold. "THAT INSOLENT SLAAD DARES RISE UP AGAINST MY PRISMATIC MAJESTY!? I WILL NOT ALLOW IT! MOORE, GATHER A WAR PARTY, FOR WE WILL LEAVE NOTHING OF FARRDALE BUT ASH! HE WILL RUE THIS INSULT IN OBLIVION FOREVER! I WILL FEAST ON HIS BONES AND GNAW ON HIS SOUL!" Baleruk's tale thumps down, making the entire demiplane shake.
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on September 20, 2016, 08:48:57 AM
Moore jumps back in surprise, dodging a coin here and there. "Well, I wasn't quite expecting this kind of response... but I suppose it probably is a terrible place. I'm actually going there to look for one of Malcanthet's minions that I need to bring to justice. Do you know how we can get in? I heard it was locked, basically -- but I'm guessing that isn't a big problem for you."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 20, 2016, 12:31:47 PM
Baleruk freezes mid-shout, pausing and coming in close to you. His head is inches away, one of his eyes all that you see. He sniffs you three times, "Malcanthet?" he asks, in a bare whisper, "Explain."
Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

"We're after a woman named Alurae who is vying to be one of Malcanthet's top." Moore explains. "It's a long, convoluted story that basically ends with us getting more support from Brightwater for Aurora. We found out that Alurae is hiding in Farrdale, which is why we're going. However, I bet there are way more evil things in Farrdale, so if we're going to make a mark of Aurora, then I say let's show them that they can't hide from justice."

Would he?

He'll go to get something to eat while he waits for Balyss and Dana.

Time passes uneventfully. You catch up with Dana and Balyss after the hour passes, filling them in.

Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Moore nods with a bit of a shrug. "It's hard to say what to expect exactly, but I think Baleruk can get us in, at least. I'm not really sure we want to try and get into too much of a fight with a death slaad, but then again, we may really not have to deal with it at all, depending on... well, everything."

No sign of him yet.

"Any second, right?" Balyss looks up as well, joined by Dana. "...right?"

Then Baleruk simply plunges down out of the demiplane, landing in the courtyard with a tremendous THUMP. Soldiers drilling pause with shouts of alarm, while several of the Graceful Blow are sent to the ground in heaps. "FORWARD!" Baleruk declares.

Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

You walk along a short time, until you come to a shimmering barrier of matter. Earth, fire, wind and water rage ahead of you, blocking the way.

Baleruk glares at it. His contempt drips from every word, "You would bar me, a prince of Limbo? YOU DARE?!"

Like that, the barrier parts before you, showing you a rocky, grass-free plain ahead. In the distance you can see a castle made of reddish stone.

Baleruk immediately takes to the air, "SLAAD, I'M COMING FOR YOU!" He bellows, flying off. "The three of you take care of the ground forces!"

This is anarch work, though as a quasi power with ties to Limbo, he generally autopasses most anarch checks. It' s nascent version of DvR1+'s divine realm and the ability to shape it freely.

"I'll have to learn how to do that someday." Moore comments. "Although I kind of expected a town or something and not a castle, but..." He shrugs. "Let's see if we can find this pretender succubus before Baleruk brings everything else down?"

With that, he starts to fly ahead!

"That's fucking right, we're here to wreck all of your-" What Dana says next is lost, since the ground 20ft ahead breaks open. Five huge frog-men of stone emerge from it, expressionless. Casting Harmonize, then Inspire Courage.

[14:58] <Serith> Nephrite roll for Serith < 9 > [d4=2,3,4]

Dana, Moore and Balyss all get +14 to attack and weapon damage +saves to charm and fear. They also get +2 to attack and +2 to CL. Also +1 from his aura, so a total of +17 to attack rolls.

<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 56 > [d20=18]

Dana closes in on one and stabs it over and over, finding resistance but still ripping holes in its legs and stomach.  Meanwhile Balyss hangs back, holding her holy symbol up. A blast of moonlight from above hits the golems but nothing happens.

"Magic resistant or immune," she calls, "Golems!" At the same time she taps Moore on the wing, as protection surrounds him.

Lunatic's light, which failed. Auto-quickened shield of faith (CL24) on Moore afterwards. Golems are up.

Slow and lumbering, the five surround Dana and attempt to pound her into a paste.

They all position and slam down on her. You can't see what's happening, stone frog backs blocking the way, but you hear Dana laugh mockingly after.

Bardic music echos across the battlefield, as it is joined by Baleruk's roar. You can see him meet something ahead - some sort of winged red horse, far too large to be a pegasus.

Moore, what's the remaining durations on all your bardic music?

Init is Moore (39) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Frogs x5 (-1)

Amid all the carnage, Dana stands unbowed. She deflects overhead punches, dodges heavy stomps that would squish her into paste. "Come on, is this fucking it?" she bellows, focusing on the already punctured stone frog. Her body swells, ghostly chains appearing to pull her muscles and make them bulge, her entire body distorting.

Activating chain of personal superiority for +4 insight to Strength and Constitution.

> roll 1d20+46 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA)
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+46 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA) --> [ 1d20=17 ]{63}
> roll 1d20+41 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA)
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+41 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA) --> [ 1d20=15 ]{56}
> roll 1d20+36 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA)
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+36 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA) --> [ 1d20=3 ]{39}
> roll 1d20+31 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA)
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+31 (+17 Moore, +2 chain, -15 PA) --> [ 1d20=7 ]{38}
> roll 1d6+59+1d6+59+1d6+59+1d6+59-40 (-40 is for DR she doesn't beat)
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d6+59+1d6+59+1d6+59+1d6+59-40 (-40 is for DR she doesn't beat) --> [ 1d6=5 1d6=2 1d6=4 1d6=4 ]{211}

Dana's seen as a blur of stabs, leaping up into the air. She lands on the frog's knee and impales it, before kicking off and leaping up to its hand and then its head. She lands on it with enough of an impact to leave a crater, which she follows by stabbing down into it over and over, dozens of strikes in a few seconds time. Over and over, ripping the heart apart until the top of it falls away, enough to wobble it. She then kicks off it and lands, dodging blows from the other stone frogs as the kick off makes the damaged golem falling over, fracturing in places and not moving.

"One down just like that. Fucking pussies."

Meanwhile, Balyss draws the Sword of the Moon and holds it up, whispering a prayer. Divine power flows into her, strengthening her body.

Casting divine favor for the BAB increase and then going with a quickened divine favor as as followup. Stone frogs are up.

With one down, the remaining four attempt to simply stomp Dana into the ground, relentless and uncreative.

No flanking since she has improved uncanny dodge.

> roll 1d20+42 vs 81
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+42 vs 81 --> [ 1d20=2 ]{44}
> roll 1d20+42 vs 81
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+42 vs 81 --> [ 1d20=2 ]{44}
> roll 1d20+42 vs 81
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+42 vs 81 --> [ 1d20=8 ]{50}
> roll 1d20+42 vs 81
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+42 vs 81 --> [ 1d20=15 ]{57}

Dana weaves amid them, blocking a foot bigger than she is with her shield, holding it back long enough to roll out of the way. She's in constant movement, stabbing and evading the stone frogs.

Then 60ft above you, two figures appear. They are entwined, arms linked together and back to back. A man and a woman. The man is rugged and muscled, with long blonde hair. The woman is slender and petite, with short cut blonde hair. Both wear chain armor paired with a breastplate, ioun stones flying around their heads. They appear as humans, save for having no ears or nose. Their features are strangely smoothed over, like polished stone.

The man speaks but with a woman's voice, "No further!"

The woman speaks but with a man's voice, "Not a step more!"

> roll 1d20+13
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+13 --> [ 1d20=16 ]{29}
> roll 1d20+8
<Kobot> Kowork rolled 1d20+8 --> [ 1d20=7 ]{15}

The two use the man's superior initiative score of 29.

Init is Moore (39) > Blonde Man = Blonde Woman (29) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Frogs x5 (-1)

Go Moore.

Inspire Courage has 4 rounds left.

"Oh, we've really upset them now. I kind of doubt the person we're even after is going to be here at this point... Oh well! Keep fighting, we'll show them the strength of Aurora!" Moore calls, casting a spell as multiple copies of himself appear!

He's using his Standard on Mirror Image, so there are now 8 extra copies. He's using his move action to maintain Inspire Heroics.

Init is Moore (39) > Blonde Man = Blonde Woman (29) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Frogs x4 (-1)

The two above chant in each other's voices, a discordant pattern perfectly coordinated. As one they chant in draconic, "Speed! Speed! Speed! Haste! Haste! Haste!" Six times they chant, then a single voice finishes, "TIME STOP!"

> roll 1d4+1
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 5 > [d4=4]

They're gone and you don't see them right away, but you have bigger problems. On one side a massive dinosaur menaces you, a horrible and fiendish thing. On the other side one menaces Balyss, both trying to bite the two of you into two.

You can make K:N to identify them if you want, Moore. Go ahead and do that or say you aren't and I'll continue.

Moore can tell they are fiendish T-rexes. Big, nasty things that like to eat things like you whole. Oh, and they can smite good, too.

No images are lost. Lucky.

Moore's much too fast, flying up and around as he doesn't miss a note on his song. Balyss meanwhile startles visibly, staring up as the T-rex bites down on her. She shouts in surprise, before a flash of silvery moonfire forces the dinosaur back. She's slobbery and bitten, but barely bleeding. As she holds up the Sword of the Moon, Dana meanwhile continues her assault on the stone frogs, who continue to swarm her.

<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 282 > [d6=2,3,6,3]
> OOC: -40 for DR.

Dana's blinking around, teleporting to stab one of the stone frogs. She's impaling it all over, "Come the fuck on! You're like a cheap whore that just lies there and takes it! Fucking HIT ME!" She roars over the battle, as Balyss calls, "The twins, invisible, flying around defensively!" Then she holds the Sword of the Moon close, raised upright in front of her face. "Selune, banish the nightmare!"

Chain dispel to unsummon the two T-rexes.

> roll 1d20+24
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 41 > [d20=17]
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 31 > [d20=7]

Moonlight shines from the moonless sky above, and the two dinosaurs turn transparent and then vanish entirely.

Init is Moore (39) > Blonde Man = Blonde Woman (29) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Frogs x4 (-1)

The ground quivers as the stone frogs continue the assault, swinging at the air as Dana dodges.

<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 58 > [d20=16]

Still no hits. Dana blocks oversized fists with her white dragon shield, not moving an inch from the bone-shaking impact. Then, a merely 10ft behind you and Balyss, an oversized stone head pokes out. A fist follows, menacing, each larger than Hanna. It has vaguely humanoid features and looks to be made of solid granite.

Moore, you're up, and you can make K:A to identify the stone head.

Casting Improvisation and maintaining Heroism with his move action. Courage has 3 rounds left.

Init is Moore (39) > Blonde Man = Blonde Woman (29) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Head (14) > Stone Frogs x4 (-1)

Moore can tell the creature is an elder earth elemental. It's coming up to say hi and probably try and maim you. They do that when summoned or commanded.

From above, coming all about you hear the man and woman chant together in draconic, "Fireball, fireball, fireball, fireball, fireball, fireball, METEOR SWARM!"

The meteors fly at Balyss, aimed right for her center mass. Her eyes widen as she brings her shield up, the crescent moon on it bursting into light. The meteors stop in the air and reverse, flying at the empty air.

Great reflection saves Balyss. Boing, right back at the caster.

About 60ft in the air and 20ft away from you the meteors strike, a fiery blossom above as twin screams fill the air. Amid this Dana's still at it, standing firm amid the golems. You can hear Baleruk roaring as you get a glimpse of the red flying horse falling to the ground, head and upper chest savagely torn off.

Init is Moore (39) > Blonde Man = Blonde Woman (29) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Head (14) > Stone Frogs x3 (-1)

With everything that's going on, you don't see precisely what happens. But another stone frog collapses, smacking into another and tearing its arm off. Dana's still moving, utterly untouched as Balyss exhales. "Whew!" The Sword of the Moon slices out, as a burst of light explodes a moment after the fires vanish.

Lunatic's light on the blondes, while she'll save her quickened spells, since none of them are really helpful here.

Moore is struck hard by the fist, slammed in mid air and knocked back hard, into the rear of one of the stone frogs. It doesn't even seem to notice as Moore pulls it together, bruised but intact. That hurt!

"If you deliver Alurae to us, we'll stop bothering you!" Moore shouts. The slaad can assuredly hear them... and he's not really lying, but Baleruk may have other ideas. In the meantime, Moore tries to call on Limbo's chaos to open a portal to... eh, he doesn't really have a specific point in mind, but let's see if this works!

He's trying to use his anarch powers to open a portal basically on top of the elder elemental to send it somewhere else. He doesn't care where, just anywhere that isn't here. He's also maintaining IH still. 2 rounds on Inspire Courage.

Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on September 22, 2016, 01:49:56 PM
Unfortunately, nothing happens.

Making an actual portal's not really something an anarch can do. Well, most anyway. An anarch shapes the raw Limbo around them into the desired form, but that generally excludes serious magical effects. There's a little bit of leeway to this due to the nature of Limbo and chaos stuff, but that's way past it.

Init is Moore (39) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Head (14) > Stone Frogs x3 (-1)

Above you can hear in draconic, "Dimension door, dimension door, dimension door, dimension hop, dimension hop, dimension hop, GREATER TELEPORT!"

"They teleported away," Balyss calls as she dodges a jab from the elder elemental, as Dana continues to do as she does.

> roll 1d6+67+1d6+67+1d6+67
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 206 > [d6=1,1,3]

Amid all the battle, another stone frog goes down. You see Dana standing over it, on its chest as the two remaining ones lurch on and try and get her. "Boooring," Dana drawls, "Don't you have anything better than this?"

Init is Moore (39) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Head (14) > Stone Frogs x3 (-1)

Augmented for battle, Balyss steps in and attacks the elemental's head dead on. The Sword of the Moon glows with moonfire, crackling out and filling the air around her.

Slash after slash hacks away hunks of granite, large sections of the elemental's face hitting the ground. It doesn't react to the damage, and instead simply retreats, withdrawing into the ground and out of sight.

Elemental used the withdraw action to get out.

Init is Moore (39) > Dana (27) > Balyss (23) > Stone Frogs x3 (-1)

"We're winning! Let's finish this," Balyss calls, kicking aside part of the elemental's head and turning to the stone frogs still ineffectively battering Dana.

> roll 1d20+42
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 55 > [d20=13]
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 53 > [d20=11]

To no avail at all, Dana rolling her eyes as she sidesteps overwhelmingly powerful swings. "Fucking hell, and I haven't even seen your golem trick. Slow, right? Can you even do that or are you cut rates Afina would be disgusted by?"

Go Moore.

Moore lets out a frustrated breath. Oh well, maybe another time.

"If you don't want all your creations to get turned into rubble, then bring Alurae here!" Moore shouts. Surely, the slaad can hear him, right?? In addition, he decides now's a great time to speed up the party's actions. Why not!

Haste on everyone, maintaining IH. Courage has one round left on it.

"This is ridiculous. But I suppose it's par for the course for Limbo." Moore says with a shake of his head. "I guess this slaad likes its golem creations... I presume that's what those two in the air were."

He huffs once and takes a look off in Baleruk's direction to see how he's managing.

Dana hops over from the carnage, "Weak," she spits, as you see Baleruk beseiging the castle. He's blasting it with his five-fold breath and smacking towers with his tail, doing considerable damage. No one's coming out to oppose him, either.

Then - a ripple. A woman, bound with thick ropes twice over and with a sack over her head appears before you. She's wearing a sleeping gown and slippers. "Take her and call your dragon off!" A piqued voice says, a hint of a ribbit afterwards. "Before you destroy everything!"

The bound woman struggles and makes lots of mmmfffing sounds. Probably gagged as well.

"Baleruk!" Moore shouts. "That's enough!"

Can he even hear him from here?

"If this isn't her, understand that we'll be back." Moore says. "You shouldn't harbor people like this here. Consider this a warning."

No reply.

Baleruk's vaunted draconic hearing seems up to the test, as he stops and flies over. He lands before all of you and sniffs your captive, as meanwhile Balyss checks her bonds and tightens them.

"Not enough," Baleruk says quietly, "WE WILL HAVE TREASURE FOR MY HOARD! DO YOU HEAR ME, SLAAD? I AM BALERUK, FAVORED OF RENBUU AND PRISMATIC DRAGON! I WILL HAVE TREASURE OR THIS PLACE WILL BURN!"

"You'd really better listen to him. In fact, if you harbor people like this, surely you can supply both Baleruk with something as well as Aurora. We'd consider it a fair sign that you're mending your ways. But if you try to trick us with something, I'll ask my comrade here to turn your entire kingdom into nothing more than a fairy tale." Moore says.

Taking 10 and using Divine Insight to aid Baleruk's intimidation for 48. If he also gets the +8 then it's 56.

Dana just gestures at the stone frogs, or what's left of them. "Yeah, and?" Dana says, "This is where you give us tribute or we go inside of there and take it. Your choice."

There's a long pause, before something appears next to the bound and hooded woman. A big barrel, tall as Balyss is and filled to the brim with gold coins, some ingots and a couple of jewels. A lot more that you can't see, either.

Baleruk takes it in his claws, "We leave," Baleruk declares, "OPEN A PORTAL BACK SO WE CAN REVEL IN OUR VICTORY!"

Title: Re: The second seal (Moore)

Why, he'll talk with her, of course. But first, he's also going to cast Sending to Sunstone from Brightwater with the following message: "We have Alurae, a maiden of Malcanthet. She wronged someone of Brightwater. Should we bring her to you?"

Once that's done he's going to find someone to take some notes on the interrogation and recast Divine Insight and Improvisation and add Glibness in to speak with her. The intent is doing to do some extremely high level diplomatic bullshit with her.

On the one hand, he really would like to interrogate this awful person, but on the other, they're not really an enemy of Aurora, so...

Moore will get transport from someone to Brightwater (he can get himself back) with Alurae in that case, and make sure her bindings are going to hold for the trip.

Thanks to Balyss, the three of you teleport to Brightwater. When you appear before the golden city, you find no one else around. This teleport location is unusually empty, save for Sunstone.  Half a dozen panthers pace around the outer border of the teleportation area, eyes on Alurae. "Prisoner detail," Sunstone announces, "Hand her over, please."

She is taken and vanishes with Sunstone, who reappears several moments later.

"You fulfilled your side of things," Sunstone says, patting one of the panthers on the head, petting it. It stops and sits, purring loudly. "Fundraising for Aurora, was it? I want to know more about who I'll invest in. Who will the money be going to?"

"It will go directly to funding improvements to Aurora itself -- either through our defenses or new avenues for magical research. In particular, one of my current goals is to build a place of worship for those who follow Mount Celestia."

He turns to Balyss with a smile. "Selune has been graceful enough to allow those who do not follow her directly to use her facilities within Aurora, but I wish to do our part to allow those of all faiths to not feel left out. My first goal will be to build something for Celestia, then eventually Arborea and its deities, then from there add more so that all faiths can be equally respresented."

He turns back to Sunstone at this. "I know there are individual bonds between many planes, such as General Ithea, but this is less for any one person and for a greater good for all. I want us to be continually noted for welcoming all people who wish to do good, so to answer your question it would be for all of those who follow Aurora's path."

He's being honest, but this is a smidge flowery.

"Very well," Sunstone said, "Is there anything else to add?"

"Only that we are always continuing to reach out to new allies. If you or your patrons know of any, I would be happy to treat with them." Moore says with a smile.

"Would you prefer gold or markers of credit in Brightwater?" Sunstone asks.

Moore rubs his chin at that. "I think we can get whatever we need here in Brightwater and I would presume that's more valuable than just raw gold, at least here." He nods to himself. "Markers of credit would be fine."

Sunstone withdraws a scroll bound with a golden ribbon, "This writ is worth 50,000 gold. Open it and it will show you the balance. Any reputable merchant in Brightwater will accept this as money and be compensated for the purchases. Simply write the expense then have the merchant write it and the balance on the scroll will adjust."

Moore nods and bows. "Thank you for the generous gift. If you feel there's any way I can further benefit Brightwater or its citizens, please feel free to contact me or Aurora, I would be happy to help."

Nods all around, as...

Okay, anything else on this particular plotline and visit?

No. Moore will hand the scroll over to Morniel and let him wheel and deal as necessary for a suitable place of worship. He'll just go back and take a day off since he's been running all over the place for the last few days.

Going to do anything in particular or just rest?

Rest and look around for anyone in need of anything. He doesn't have much on his agenda specifically -- there's the stuff about The Father he should probably start looking into, so if there's nothing else pressing he'll follow up on Muirfinn's notes.

Okay. That's a good time for a new topic, so let's move you along to it. This one's locked.
