Hello, Citizen. We would ask if you were happy with your current position in Alpha Complex, but we know you are happy, because if you weren't happy, you would be a traitor, and you would have already been executed. So, clearly, you must be happy.
In fact, your Happy Loyalty profile (generated through your answers on Forms XVII.L-30-Gamma-XVIII-A through XLG) has indicated that you are ideally suited for the role of Troubleshooter. As of now, in addition to your normal duties, you will be hunting down commie mutant traitors for Friend Computer. We're sure that makes you very, very happy.
Congratulations on your promotion -- as of now, you have been granted Red clearance. Troubleshooting is a fun and exciting career -- so exciting, in fact, that Troubleshooters regularly die from excitement. Therefore, your clone tanks are full, since Friend Computer loves you, and knows that there is nothing that will make you happier than dying repeatedly for Friend Computer.
Anyways. About what it says -- is there any interest in a Paranoia game? For those not familiar with the concept/rules, http://www.paranoia-rpg.com/ is a good place to start.
Obviously, by raising this question, I'm willing to GM it, but if someone else wants to (and, especially, if they have interest and/or books), I'm completely (read: more) happy to play instead.
Assuming for a minute I am the GM, then what you'll be looking at is an even more rules-light version than normal (since the only references I have is the above-listed site), pre-generated characters, and (hopefully) a fairly fast-paced game. After all, Troubleshooters who aren't doing their very happy best for Friend Computer are traitors.
Thoughts?
Mmm, very tempting. Very tempting. *will have to look over his schedule and consider if he could do a half decent job*
How fast paced would the game be played?

I'd like to say "very," but let's be realistic here. I can't game 24/7, and I don't expect anyone else to do so. What I'd suggest is that if you don't think you'll be able to check and post at least 5 or 6 days out of the week, then you'll probably be posting too slow.
On the other hand, this is Paranoia. If you suddenly hit a busy spot, and can't post for a couple weeks, then you'll die, and I'll put off reinserting your next clone until you are available again. Remember, it's not
if you're going to die, it's about how much fun you have kicking the bucket.
I can generally do 1-3 posts a day and rarely miss coming to the forum for it. Hmm...
Dracos
I'm tempted as well, to be honest, despite my schedule. How long a game are we talking here? Will this be a really long, deep game or more or a oneshot/short series?

I was thinking alone the lines of a silly one-shot adventure. If nothing else, if you keep clones around long enough to
do a long, deep game, I'd think I was doing something wrong. ;)
I read the rules, seems like fun. I am up for playing.
Citizen willing to commence troubleshooting. Tell when and what to shoot and what's going on.

*Formally submits his withdrawl*
Well, I just got an increased workload from somewhere else, so...what little free time I had is now super kaput.
I think I could go for it.
I haven't played paranoia in years.
My own limited time will be seen (at the GM's suggestion) as license to burn through my clones at heretofore unknown rates of deathination.
Also, can I have a cone weapon? I'll stand at the back of the party and be the rearguard. :)
Okay. So far, for confirmed players, we've got three: trunkyboy, Dracos, and Brian. I tend to think we should have at least one more; you know, the whole "two's company, three's a crowd, four a veritable orgy of lies, deceit, backstabbing and treachery" thing.
In the meantime, I'll plan a campaign, and look for a copy of the rules.
I've Never Played!
^_^
Friend computer, know this, the people find you to be obsolete.
Dracos
Obsolete?
. . .
Citizen, you have committed an error. Please report to the termination booth immediately.
I'm interested. Haven't played either, but what the hey, the game sounds cool. ^^
There's no other way to say it but: I suck. I'm very sorry, but over at least the next month or so, I'm going to be too busy to take on GMing a game.
My sincere apologies if I got anyone's hopes up.
Life sucks that way. We'll wait. I will at least.
And any who walk away are obviously traitors who need to be eliminated by friend computer o_o.
Dracos
What he said. I'll wait as well. Shooting commies sounds like fun ^^
I . . . you're trying to obstruct our mission of finding mutant commie traitors!
TRAITOR! COMMIE TRAITOR!
*shoots Bjorn*
*Considers*
Oh why not?
I suspect the others have been looking forward to this.
Friend computer, troubleshooter ready here.
And the laser turrets aimed at me had nothing to do with this decision, honest!
If anyone's still interested in this, I'll GM.
THE RULES
1. Forum game only. If you do not post at least once every two days your character will be considered overly quiet and thus a likely traitor.
2. The Computer will be using Fifth edition rules, with little-to-no dice rolling involved. If you don't know what Fifth edition means, that's good. Knowledge of the rules is treason.
3. Characters will be starting out their careers as Red-clearance troubleshooters. Submit your characters at the shibakev@earthlink.net terminal. Your name should have your clearance and three-letter home sector at the end, such as Ter-R-IST or Eve-R-EDY or Ronald-R-GAN.
4. You will die. Frequently. Luckily you have 5 additional clones to make up for your previous clone's poor judgment.
5. Once the game starts, there is no OOC. Comments about your character's stats or game mechanics will cause your teammates to think you odd and likely shoot you.
6. Happiness is mandatory. Welcome to Alpha Complex, Citizen.
I'll bite. Where do I pick up my clones?
I'm interested but have no where near enough free time to pick up another game. Good luck though.
Dracos
A couple of time related questions for you.
A) What pace do you want to set? (Number of posts per day, speed of posting, etc?)
B) What times will you be around on the boards?
C) Will you want to encourage faster back and forth posting between PCs/GM or a slower, more flushed out posting style?
It'll be fairly slow. I'm on maybe three times a day, at varying hours (I work a job with ever-changing hours). I looked at some of the other games and saw that characters post in order A, B, C, D. I think that would work well for this, with an occasional interjection in the order by the Computer.
If interested, just email me at shibakev@earthlink.net with a brief character bio.
I'm about to move house, but I'll keep an eye out to see when the game actually comes together. Not played in friggin years, though.
I'm tentative. We'll see shortly with my other obligations, and how your turnout does. I'll bug you about it in a few days, say?
So that's one yes and a couple of maybes. Not too promising.
It's only been a couple of days. Give it a bit. I flung a notice up in the forum chatroom.
Dracos
I'm up for playing. I don't know fast paced game like Paranoia will stand up being forum-based, but I am willing to give it a try.
I'm willing to give it a shot, but I'm slightly tentative. The Token Old Man DMing something... kind of scary.
I'll give you a definite yes, Captain. Expect an e-mail from me as soon as my comp has net acess again which should be by the end of the week.
So we've got Irius, Trunkyboy, Hal, and probably Zenthor, with a couple more tenatives. That's good enough to start.
First, some background info to get everyone in the mood:
Boy, life sure is great here in Alpha Complex! Of course, you've never lived anywhere but Alpha Complex, but you're sure this is the best place there is. Friend Computer provides everything for you! Sure, you're a lowly Infrared clearance clone working in the food processing plant, but you know that one day your loyalty to the computer will be properly demonstrated and you'll be promoted to a higher security clearance.
One morning, you wake up to a loud call from the Computer. CONGRATULATIONS, CITIZEN! YOU HAVE BEEN PROMOTED TO RED CLEARANCE. YOUR NEW JOB IS TROUBLESHOOTER. REPORT TO SECTOR XPD FOR OUTFITTING.
Wow, a Troubleshooter! Those guys are the best! They... um... well, you're not really sure what they do, but you're going to be the best darn Troubleshooter there is!
You quickly consume your Foodlyke product and Bouncy Bubbly Beverage, don your black coveralls, and head off in search of Sector XPD.
We'll keep the character creation simple for this. When you email me at shibakev@earthlink.net, send your character's name and rank these stats in order from greatest to least for your character:
Strength (strength, duh)
Agility (physical coordination and balance)
Dexterity (hand-eye coordination)
Endurance (resist damage and fatigue)
Moxie (wits, understanding stuff)
Chutzpah (talking your way out of bad situations)
Mechanical Aptitude (making your laser or robot operate correctly)
Power (control of mutant powers, which you don't have, because being a mutant is treason, right? Wink wink nudge nudge)
So, as an example, if you wanted a character who was a good shot with a laser, you might rank them Dexterity, Mechanical Aptitude, Moxie, Agility, Strength, Endurance, Chutzpah, Power
I'm too lazy to email, so check your PM box here for my info.
Ah, yes, PM is fine. I didn't realize this board had it.
I have characters from Excal, Hal, and Zenny. Will be sending you info back tonight. One more character and we can get started.
There you go.
You guys get a separate forum. I'll get you set up. If you have aim, message me. I love the enthusiasm, but I don't want this forum to get swamped with an actual game going on in the middle of it.
Dracos
There we go. If you need an OOC area, message me or hal.
Dracos
I've been to sector OOC before. It was nice, but the clones there kept talking about strange things. So I shot them.
Yeah, anyhow you'll probably want a clean topic. If not, well, up to you. I'm moving out of the way. =)
Dracos
Folks, I'd like to apologize for the pace of this game. My job has taken far more of my time than I anticipated (I worked 15 hours yesterday for example). If y'all are bored, we can stop. But if you're cool with the current pace we'll keep going.
I'm fine with it. A game going slow is better than no game at all.
Slow doesn't bother me. I think we just need Excal to post, as the forum hiccup the other day ate his post.
Sorry for dragging things a bit. Saw that the last post in the forum was mine and assumed that the post had gone up. Anyways, reposted now, so hopefully things can proceed.
Barring GM or player action I will be posting a reply to Zenthor's inquiry, so, uh, yeah >.>
Sorry. I'm a bit unconscious at the moment, so consider me as passing until I'm revived. <_<
Alas, I fear I can't keep up with this.
A, I never remember to check this website since there's not much going on here.
B, I've accepted a position with seraphicgate.com that will take my remaining free time (after games, Gamefaqs, RPGDL, and the other important priorities  )
If anyone wants to take the reins and run with it, be my guest. Otherwise, it's just another in a long list of dead games here.
At least I finally got to kill Hal. I was wondering when he'd slip up.
Cold dude. Anyhow, see ya.
