Title: The "Top 10" Music Thread
Post by: Ragnar on January 25, 2007, 10:23:12 PM
Time to get a little musical love in here. I was recently challenged to compose a list of my ten favorite songs, and despite finding the narrowing down to be rather difficult (many great songs got left out), finally completed the task. Now, out of curiosity (read: "for lack of anything better to do"), I'm challenging you to do the same. Ordering them in terms of preference proved rather hard, so I'm listing them in alphabetical order.

1- Alice's Restaurant Masacree - Arlo Guthrie
2- Ballad of a Thin Man - Bob Dylan
3- Boku De Aru Tame Ni - Flying Kids
4- Csillag Vagy Fecske - Kispál és a Borz
5- Log In - Kenji Kawai - From the motion picture 'Avalon'
6- M10 Reincarnation (Chant III) - Kenji Kawai - From the motion picture 'Ghost in the Shell'
7- Saturday Night Fish Fry - Pts 1 & 2 - Louis Jordan
8- Stand! - Sly and the Family Stone
9- Time is Tight - Booker T. & the MGs
10- Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - Parts 1 & 2 - Flaming Lips

So, now it's your turn. I'm curious as to musical taste around here. Keep it to ten songs, as wading through pages of music titles is enough to drive anyone batty. Tip: try looking in the "Most Played" section of your music player. I'm hoping this will turn into something interesting :)

I'm pretty sure none of those has ever been used in a dj contest.

Without editing, here is the top-10 most-played songs in my iTunes:

o/`
1.) Dancing All Alone -- Smile.DK
2.) Long Black Veil -- The Band
3.) Seventeen -- Ladytron
4.) Manic Star -- Rhys Fulber
5.) Musou Uta -- Suara
6.) Tobacco Island -- Flogging Molly
7.) Magic (Featuring: Julee Cruise) -- Delerium

Cake and Dredg didn't show up on the list only because they're more recent additions....

13.) When You Sleep -- Cake
18.) The Tanbark is Hot Lava -- Dredg

Tell me what it means? :)

Ah, I can never turn down this kind of thread. I should note that these are in no real order. This list is also subject to change at a moment's notice without reason, and I decided not to include any band more than once because otherwise the list would probably consist entirely of Queen and R.E.M. songs.

Arcade Fire: Tunnels
Peter Gabriel: The Drop (choosing one song is exceptionally painful here)
Queen: The Show Must Go On
R.E.M.: Find the River
Rush: Losing It
Smashing Pumpkins: Tonight Tonight
Yes: And You and I
Beethoven's 9th Symphony
Soundgarden: Jesus Christ Pose (there has to be something noisy in here)
Queensryche: Anybody Listening?

My favourite music changes from day to day and from mood to mood.  So, like Brian, I'm going with "unedited 10 most played songs in iTunes":

1: Bowling for Soup - 1985
2: Propellerheads - History Repeating
3: Rob Zombie - Scum of the Earth
4: FF:CC Soundtrack - Kazenone
5: Fatboy Slim - Mad Flava
6: Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice
7: Great Big Sea - That Old Black Rum
8: Tom Waits - Singapore
9: Great Big Sea - Mari-Mac
10: LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out

1985 is kind of artificially high, since it was the only song on my laptop for about two weeks. >.<

Lessee...

Descending order of most played on iTunes, disregarding songs I use as an alarm that get played because they're loud.

1. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
2. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
3. Flogging Molly - What's Left of the Flag
4. Flogging Molly - The Spoken Wheel/With a Wonder and Wild Desire
5. Alfred Reed and the Tokyo Kosei Orchestra - Armenian Dances Part 1
6. Dropkick Murpheys - Green Fields of France
7. Dragon Quest 8 Symphonic Suite - Dormaguez ~ The Great Battle in the Sky
8. Wild ARMs 2 Symphonic Medley
9. Final Fantasy III - Forbidden Land Eureka
10. Wild ARMs 3 - Wings

Mm.  Not exactly accurate, since there are some things which I just recently added to my playlist (Kansas' Carry on my Wayward son, etc) or I don't have but really enjoy (a lot of the tracks on Twilight Princess were beautifully composed but I don't have access to those songs in .mp3 format).  Pretty close, though.
