I think it would be fair to describe me as a GITS bitch. I buy the anime. I buy the manga, I buy the music (well, it is Kanno), and I've even purchased one of the novels being translated in the US (I nice read, I might add, as it is a new story) and will buy more.
Regardless of my near fanboy bias, GITS: SSS, is top notch. First, this is basically a movie. An almost 2 hour excursion into a cyberthriller with a complex plot and great storytelling to deliver it.
In a nutshell, two years after the events of 2nd Gig, the Major has left Section 9, which has grown in her absence, with Togusa in charge of field operations. It opens with a terrorist group apparently committing suicide one by one, but for no apparent reason. It's made more complicated when one of the people claims he won't be caught be someone named 'The Puppeteer' right before he blows his brains out.
Things escalate from there as Section 9 discovers a plot which no one could have guessed even existed, courtesy of something called the 'Solid State Society'. The Major becomes involved as well, however as the case develops, evidence indicates the identity of the Puppeteer might be someone everyone knows.
Animation is as good as it comes, as with all GITS material. The music is great, the story intriuging, the build up well done, and the characters given plenty to work with, all the more remarkable given the short amount of time there is to deal with things.
My rating: A Solid '8' Society. Download it now. It'll be a well spent just under two hours of your life.
