Title: Anti-virus software
Post by: Dracos on November 18, 2008, 09:17:27 PM
Pretty tired of McAfee and not too tied to Norton.

I am willing to pay money for something that is fast, protective, and convenient but I'm not sure what fits that.

Any suggestions?

17:18   Anastasia   I've heard good things about...
17:18   Anastasia   http://www.eset.com/ - Nod32. I used a trial a few years back and it was decent.
17:18   Midnight   NOD3--what Ana said
17:19   Anastasia   There's AVG free, which isn't terrible and is well priced at FREE.
17:19   Midnight   If you want to get that, get it from Newegg. They very frequently have sales on it.
17:19      Anastasia nods.
17:20   Anastasia   Relately, I've been using Malware Bytes for anti spyware lately. Decent product, great for helping clean up the messes of Antivirus 2009.
17:22   Midnight   It might be worth mentioning that AVG has been acting rather weird lately...

17:22   Midnight   http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/14/avg_false_positive_flash/
17:22   Midnight   It probably doesn't matter if you don't use XP or anything Flash related though.
17:23   Anastasia   False positives suck but happen occasionally.
17:24   Anastasia   I've had it happen before and it's always a bit of a pain in the ass.
17:30      Raya_at_play looks.
17:30   Raya_at_play   I'm really less worried about price.
17:30   Raya_at_play   I paid for mcafee and implicitly paid for norton for quite some time.
17:30   Raya_at_play   I'd rather have something that doesn't bother me while it goes about its business.
