Title: Evening game: Planar hijinks!
Post by: Anastasia on August 28, 2009, 01:30:29 AM
System: D&D 3.5.
Number of players: 1-3
Power level: Either low/mid or very high(Epic), to be determined and open to imput.
Times: Once/twice a week on days to be determined, from roughly 10 30 PM EST to 2 30 AM EST.

Info: The planes can be a lot of fun. If you're familiar with Planescape you know things can get wild there. I'd like to try my hand at it and have some fun. This would be focused around a group of planar explorers(By choice or by circumstance) and all the shenanigans this leads to.  The Manual of the Planes from 3.0 is the main reference I'm going to use here. Despite being Planar, I will -not- be using Planescape or Sigil. I like the planes but I strongly dislike all of that. No Lady of Pain, no Sigil, no overdone cockney slang. The rest of the planar structure will be more or less intact.

There's more I can go into, but how does this concept grab you so far? Any takers? I'll get into the nitty-gritty after this if I get some pokes of interest.

Now wot?  You means ta say we can't do bad accents and be counted as cutters for it?

:P

Mmm, 7:30 to 11:30.  Amazingly my time.  I like that.

I haven't read the manual of the planes in ages, might 'ave to again.  But frankly, the planes are  OuT tHERe.  And what's a fellow to do if they don't greet their neighbors?

Certainly not going to put together the Planeswalker's Guide to the Planes,  Revised edition.

Can I take that as a sign of interest, Drac?

Laggy also wishes to express that he's a possible, he's too lazy to sign into SR. Lazy Laggy.

I'd be a bit interested, but it starts running a little late for me. Sorry. =/

Ah well, was worth a shot. I was hoping 9 30 CST was good enough to snare you in.

Hmm. I might be able and interested, if it's only 1/week and it falls on Mon-Thurs.

I might be interested as well. The late night slot works well for me. I'll still fairly new to tabletops and I relish the chance to learn more. Merc's a buddy of mine and suggested this game.

Sure thing, I have no problems with a new person. How much experience do you have with tabletop gaming?

I'm actually currently running two different games with the same group of friends, Merc included. Attendance is sporadic due to differing timezones and schedule conflicts. I'm adept at the RP part, but not so much at the numbers part. I just roll what I'm told to and hope I don't suck at it. Currently running Unknown Armies and All Flesh Must Be Eaten.

Okay, that's fine.  We can help you out with your character and learn the system.  If you're interested you're welcome to give it a shot.

Sure. Why not? I've been interested in running a D&D game since I got into tabletops. If you don't mind my noobieness, I'll be glad to try.

Okay. I have a handful of interested parties so far. I'm going to leave this open a day or two to see if this gathers any moss then I'll see where we're at. I'll spread word around to the relevant parties then.

I think weekends are better for me, but that's kind of a small distinction really given the time bracket.  Only risk is my occassional 'oh, it's 7:xx pm...I probably should've headed home by now' ^^;

Okay. Dracos, Gatewalker, El Cideon and Zephyrus. That's 4 people. I was aiming for a max of three, but I'll roll with four since that gives us an extra person if someone ends up having to drop. Got a few questions for you guys before I get into the hard mechanics here:

1. What days of the week are best for you if any? Gate mentioned Mon-Thurs for example.
2. Do you have any idea of a character you'd play?
3. How much knowledge of the D/D 3.5 cosmology do you have? Do you have the Manual of the Planes splatbook?

1)Weekends generally but a 7:30ish game sounds fesiable most of the week.  Might need a poke sometimes on gamenight to actually remember to leave work to get at my machine timely though ^^; :)

2) A bard certainly.  Elvish I think.  I'm going to be working on a Planeswalker's guide.  Likely plain style depending on how you want to do the planes.  Reading over the guide, there's plenty of prestige classes and tricks that become almost necessary in certain styles (Where links between planes are very difficult to access).

3)I forget it often.   I've been reading that guide though.  Are we largely going default?  It seems like a bit of blend between the default and the sort of "Portals Common" style that Planescape brings would fit well.

I know Gate can speak for himself, but since I'm here right now: weekends generally don't work for him. Anyway, my responses:

1) Time suggested by Drac sounds perfectly fine. Day doesn't matter much to me.

2) Honestly don't have a real idea of what I'd play, just yet. Maybe go with roguery since pirate monk game kind of made me want to do that.

3) Probably know less than the rest of you guys. Mostly just know whatever came up in Eb's succubus game and whatever random facts you guys bring up in #e. I played Planescape: Torment if that helps any? Probably doesn't. Anyway, I lack the book in question.

For times, I'm thinking Tuesdays will work best. I'm off every other Tuesday so that's more prep time(This might change, in which case substitute Mondays, I'll know in a week or so) for me. It also gives us a few days after to work with if we have to reschedule a session.

Roguery works, Cid. Drac, Bard is fine. As for a planar guide, let me talk to you before you commit to anything.

Cid, P:T knowledge helps enough that some terms and areas will be familiar.  Drac, you're pretty much on the money.  It's going to be very portal based, I'm thinking about removing Plane Shift and the like from PC access so you can't just hop around.

I'll comment more and move along once Zeph and Gate get to posting in here, probably tonight or tomorrow.

I'll cheer that.  Portals and riddle type stuff make it accessible to people playing every class and avoid us needing to pile on various transportation abilities for RP.  The existance of Plane Shift as anything but a grand event pretty much invalidates the reason to care about portals for the most part.  "Why would we bother recording stuff about that?  We can ask Wizard Bob to take us."

Note: I'm in wacky PST time, so 7:30 is the 10:30 Dune said earlier.

Any thoughts on power scale/wealth/splatbooks might be nice so we could start fiddling with char design. :)

Sorry I've been a bit absent. Busy couple of days.

I've been perusing the classes but haven't quite hit upon something that strikes my fancy.

Just let me know when we're getting together for a preliminary session and whatnot. Also, mind tossing me the IRC address again?

1: Already mentioned, Mon-Thurs is good, weekends mean I can't play.

2: Yes. Already talked to Dune about it, but I want to play a Musteval Monk/Swashbuckler build who's goal is to become strong enough to represent his people with pride in the Companions of Talisid. No, this will likely not be effective at all. No, I don't really care~

3: Vaguely familiar, have the books so I can reaquaint myself as needed.

I'm thinking level 5-9. Any preferences, guys? As for wealth that will depend on character level. As for books? Anything in the basic SRD is allowed. No psionics since I don't want to deal with that. Unearthed Arcana material in the SRD is allowable if you ask me first. Splatbooks? Anything's allowed, though any splatbook material has to be approved by me. I'll approve most things if it isn't going to be overpowered.  Use common sense, people. (Zeph, don't worry so much about this, I'll be working with you as you come up with a concept.)

No problem. irc.dejatoons.net, chatroom #elysium.  For a preliminary discussion, I'm thinking tomorrow(Tuesday) at 10 30 EST?

Far as I know...I can make it. I'll be taking a two night trip up to Ohio starting on Tuesday, but I should be in a hotel by then.

Seriously, I know how frustrating it can be for the game to be held back by one player due to an absence or something else. If you all are there and I'm not, go for it. I'll just get ahold of logs from someone.

A bit early, kind of. :) I prefer to hash out chars, start before a start.  Maybe I'm over-preppy. :)

How about level 8?  It's around where the 3rd tier feats start opening up and just past the start of the nice mid range that 3.5 works best at.

Should I make us a board?

We'll cover all that tonight, Drac. >_>

I may also be a bit late. Let's push this ahead to 10:45, I may need to stop right after work.
