So, what is everyone again?
I'm a Totemist/Barbarian and I plan on picking up the Frostrager PrC when I hit 7, whenever that comes along.
I think Iddy was going Rogue/Ranger?
Iddy's going Rogue//Ranger/Horizon Walker. I'm not sure on the others yet.
Prolly some sort of Pally//Cleric(or Favored Soul, more likely). Not 100% sure yet, will need to wait a bit before I finalize my build

If you're done, why not? =p
I'll put mine up when I can then.
Posted preliminary sheet for commenting and stuff. Assumed full price right now on stuff, if Dune allows the rounding that we do in B3, I'll redo gear.
I know Gate was planning a paladin too, but I hope the concepts are different enough to stand separately.
Well, I'll see once the swordskiller PRC is done. My +2 everything stat set doesn't really let me do a primary melee combatant role anyway, so was prolly going to end up focusing on healing and whatever BS the swordskills let me pull, which feels different enough from your char mechanically.
Characterwise...yeah, I imagine they will be very different flavors of paladin. Working on a background now, will possibly have something up over the weekend for that.

Full BAB for monks?
Threw this together from another sheet. Use it if you want, or not. I just like the separation of info so I don't get confused.
Edit: Fixed an HP formula problem.
Iddy's character has reddish brown hair. My character's pic has reddish colored hair (might just be the tint of the pic admittedly). Zeph and Cid are both redheads definitely.

Zeph, this goes in your direction. Your BAB progresses at 1 point per level. Your BAB is +6/+1.
Would this http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/inertialArmor.htm stack with the enhancement bonus placed on a held shield or no? I'm not sure if it would as written, looking for clarification.
It's an armor bonus. It doesn't do anything to shield or it's enhancement bonus, you get that just fine. It does replace your chain shirt, however.
From everything I'm reading, it doesn't replace the shirt. It just overlaps any enhancement bonus on the armor.
This post is for Zeph.

In regards to weapon/armor cost, should we pay full cost, or do you allow the rounding if we're spending masterwork or more?

Second example: masterwork rapier, 300 gold or 320 gold?

It's an armor bonus. It doesn't do anything to shield or it's enhancement bonus, you get that just fine. It does replace your chain shirt, however.
Merc is correct. It stacks with a shield bonus to AC, as it is an armor bonus. It overlaps with your chain shirt, though if you wear it you still suffer ACF/max dex/ACP even if you're using a higher bonus.
Alright. Gonna sell the shirt then. I'll likely have IA up all the time.

Blooded one is LA+1? What book is it from?
I'm a little scared you got a nymph to kiss you.
Could you list the components of your total AC somewhere?
Looks good. AC is just a tad too high for my tastes, as I'm trying to keep optimization down a bit. On the other hand, magic items will be scarce and generally not for purchase, so this'll fix itself sooner or later.
Yuth
I presume your saves aren't final? They have a giant FIX by them.
Jump in skills is unfinished or misaligned.

Your rapidshot attack routine is wrong. It should be 9/9/4, not 9/4/4. Rapidshot grants the bonus attack at your full base attack bonus.
Nice character image.
Everything looks fine otherwise.
Cid
Your initiative is wrong. Brains over Brawn applies to initiative, as initiatve is considered a dexterity check. So your init should be dex+improved init+int for a total of +11.
Looks good otherwise.
Zeph
Your html is feats is fucked up. You'll know it when you see it.

Morana is a very pretty half-orc! Also, who's to say the nymph kissed Morana first? Morana surely grabbed a shy nymph, brought her in for a kiss and eventually the nymph got into it!
QuoteCould you list the components of your total AC somewhere?
*points to chargen spoiler box* It's there for a reason, along with all my other chargen info, Dune! For your benefit! Use it! =p

I was optimizing AC over damage/other stuff as I was going for a tank though concept-wise, who stays alive to give commands to the others to help them survive as well. That said, I can always toss a falchion in her hands and ditch the shield if you'd like. Though then I have leftover cash, and I was trying to end up at exactly 0gp!
Go ahead and keep the AC for now, we'll see how it goes.
Fixed sheet. Also decided to be a specialized wizard for the extra spells/day since I was basically specialized already by virtue of ignoring whole schools.
Nice, Cid!
My sheet should be fixed. Went Fighter-side for BAB and saves. Nobody will expect the caster dude to have good fort saves.

Okay Cid, what particular theme are you going for with your spells?
Given that Iris's ultimate goal is to build a new dimension with her brain, I wanted to center around spells that focus on creating or manipulating matter. I tried to follow a few basic guidelines: evocation/transmutation as much as possible since those are the clearly appropriate schools; anything for analyzing/navigating the planes is a no-brainer; no illusion/necromancy/other magic of a deceptive nature; eschew elements other than fire (this just feels right).
Due to the sheer number of spells I get just from levels, there wound up being some spillover once I got past the obvious ones that really 100% fit the main idea (especially at level 1). Is anything particularly glaring?
Yes Cid, I'm going to reply to that soon. Probably Monday.
So who wants to earn bonus points and do logs?
OOOOOHHHH BONUS POINTS
Gate: I am working on that PrC a bit, but I've largely not had the time and inclination. To be honest, with your entry delayed, I've prioritized game prep instead. But I am working on it and I just wanted to have that out there.

Checking in! If any of you screw up and die, I'll be sure to lecture you before you go off to your afterlife. In other words, don't die unless you want to visit Teacher Yulia: The HEY LISTEN edition.

No. She brings death and destruction.
(in an entirely cute way, it must be admitted)

So what did you all think today, good or bad? Did you all have fun?
Pretty decent intro. Seemed a bit rushed for an intro session, but no big deal. We'll figure the pace out. I think we came across the first shard kinda quick, though.
There's as many shards as Dune has energy to run this!
I don't think it matters if we found one fast. Actually, just means characters feel more optimistic about completing the quest like this early on and they start seeing the truth as time passes with the objective becoming harder and harder to reach.
The lack of a fight to bond over is a bit sad, but we'll get that next time surely, and we got to bond as characters with a lot of chatting anyway.
It was quite fun! I do felt that we got a bit side-tracked with banter, even though we all had fun doing it!
Also, Hamish was awesome. I expect to see him gamble, wench, and wield a big, black, spear.

Dunno about the spear bit. The rest is likely.

I actually enjoyed the session a great deal. I didn't really have a problem with the banter so much, and I got to drive my cart! Yay carts!
Mellow starter session, which is fine. Nobody challenged a valkyrie to single combat, so I call it a win. Finding something immediately was presumably intentional, now we know what we're looking for, etc. Might as well get all the cards on the table in the intro session.
The chatter took on sort of a life of its own, but that might be Iris talking.
Good session, mostly setup and premise establishment. It was a bit low key, with no brutal fights or immediate danger. That's fine, not ever adventure has to start with life or death odds. I'm sure you all will get up to that anyhow.
I'm all for you guys chatting away, but the side conversations got to the point of drowning out everything else there. The bit with Mal was pretty bad. I don't wanna discourage you guys from interacting and RPing, but try and be a little more on focus. If you guys wanna gab, by all means. Get together during the week and chat away, you don't need a DM around for that. Just post the log when you're done.

That's probably a good idea. Get the character personalities and group interactions fleshed out out of session time. First few sessions usually get hammered by that stuff.
If you guys wanna, by all means. That will likely require one of you taking the initiative to organize it.
So if a bird goes HEY LISTEN, just don't be surprised.
I vote that we retroactively change Iddy's birdbrain's name to Yulia. It's easier to pronounce and read too! =p
I'm down with it.
I'll agree only if Dune GM rules that the bird gains the intelligence score needed to gain benefits from spells and gains the ability to communicate.
=P
Gate: A new beta of your PrC is on the Balmuria DM board. Feel free to take a look. Shoot me a PM if there's any problems. I'll post it over here once it goes final.
Looks good.
Post that PrC, Dune!
I will in a bit.
Dune, post of inquiry: Any possible way Thyan could get something like the Item Creation - Brew Potion feat or ability? Seems to me survivalist guy should know how to mix up herbs and stuff.
Maybe some kind of rule mod to use my Survival skill and brew up something that's of lesser strength or something? Same materials, still effective, but not as refined?
Brew Potion doesn't do much if you don't have access to the spells needed to make the potions.
What you probably actually want is Craft (Alchemy). While it's a lot more multi-purpose than just healing, that actually works out for your benefit as you can make stuff like tanglefoot bags and that sort of things (as you said, survivalist dude), and that's probably where doing stuff with herbs that doesn't require personal magic would fit under.
See, I looked under Craft and for things that have Alchemy the special note says, "You must be a spellcaster to craft any of these items." But it just lists Acid, Alchemist's Fire, Tanglefoot Bag, ect.
And something like that seems a bit too formal for what I'm going for. I'm looking for stuff more like hedge doctor/village mid-wife/healer type stuff. Folk remedy style stuff. Won't ever be as good as the formal alchemist stuff or anything, but things I can where I can go, "Oh, someone has a fever? I know a moss for that. Someone has an infection? Milkweed for that. Someone's poisoned? Oh, I know how to bleed and poultice that."
While I know this is something of a moot point considering we now have Healbot-Gate, it's something that fits thematically, and I think might be useful if we ever get separated or something.
Oh, hrm, I was sure alchemy didn't require spellcasting, but guess it does. Splatbook alchemical items never have that note, it only appears in the PHB/SRD.
I'd have said you still qualified as a ranger, but you traded your spellcasting for Deadeye.
Sounds like what you want is covered under the Heal skill. Or Profession(Herbalist), if you want to focus on specifically herb lore. But yeah, Heal covers all the treatments for illnesses/poisons/etc as a general rule.

That could work. Heal covers a lot more heal-y sort of things, while herbalist would cover things such as compounds and non-medicinal related herbcraft.
Sounds good. I'll talk to you about it a bit before I start fiddling with numbers, though.
Sure, grab me whenever you're back or post it here. Whatever.
Okay. Following your retreat, what will you guys be doing?
Also, as you do, you notice the sense of the shard ahead vanishes. Now you can faintly feel one above and behind you.
Christ, he's moving. We'll be ready for him next time.
Anybody got spells that remove ability damage?
We need to rest and re-prepare spells. If you can even do that on the Astral...
I'll be cowering in fear after having the mindflayer do what the order people wanted to do to me.
Other than that.. I suppose trying to find a place to hole up and heal back to 100% before trying to follow the shard. And finding many more +will items. *MANY MORE.*
Seriously though, at the point, what're our options, really? All we can do is follow the shard unless we somehow come across a town or something (if they even exist in Astral).

You can reprepare spells on the Astral with sufficient 'rest'. You don't sleep, nor do you heal naturally, but spells and SLAs can be regained. Magic isn't timeless in the Astrals, as durations expire as normal. Generally 8 hours of quiet downtime is sufficient to sub for sleep, as it is for creatures that don't normally sleep.
Right. Then I'll be changing my pally spells to Lesser Restoration and spamming those as often as I can until either full healed or we catch back up with him
Trying to figure out what I can do with the herb from order-land.

They exist. You recall gith settlements as well as trading settlements, but you don't recall details or names.
Also, is anyone going to appraise the platinum coins or Identify the garlic knife?
When I get home I will attempt to identify the knife, run a K:P check on Astral settlements, and maybe on the name Iddy turned up in relation to the coins. Also memorize spells. Somebody remind me to do this stuff when I show up this afternoon.
I would feel *much* better if we could find a semi-protected settlement or even a trading outpost to rest in. That mindflayer wouldn't be so troublesome if we could actually *see* him.
Is there such a thing as a Potion of Reveal Invisible Items/Beings or something? I suppose we could always try to find a scroll of Glitterdust or something.
There's dust of revealing, but that's got a fairly short range. AoE dispelling is our best bet here.

Esselbeach. A remote settlement of a handful of sea elves who magicked a pool of water into the Astral. It may be the only real lake within the entire plane. Profit's Helm, a mercane settlement that is openly tolerated by the githyanki. Silfortium, an abandoned shack-city near a portal to Hades. It is said fiends haunt the ruins, willing to provide succor for the right price.
And all we have to do is stumble upon them in the endless void! Well, we can always ask directions if we find someone non-hostile.
For the other PCs: okay, we've got two advantages for dealing with this knucklehead. One, he probably doesn't know we can track him (via the shard that he presumably has); two, I know the range of his brain drain tentacle spell (fifty feet), which gives me a good idea of where to aim a fireball. I also have a couple See Invisibilities in stock. I can't reliably hurt the goon because of SR, but I can at least light him up for everyone else to see. I figure Thyan can synch his turn up with mine and perforate him the moment he's visible. I have DEX/INT buffs in stock for whoever's likely to need them most.
We should probably also adopt a staggered formation so not everyone gets caught in the stun field at once.
Well, if I don't get stun-locked, I can turn him into a pin cushion. But with my low ass save, that's sorta unlikely. Since he locked me up once, he'll likely aim to do it again.
Also, the guy kinda brain-raped me while I was stun-locked. Failed my roll to resist it and he basically shifted through my memories, so he'll have knowledge of what I've seen everyone do already, I suspect. Not sure how that changes things for you guys.
Maybe I can use the cart to hide? It's AoE, though, so the cart would have to be out of his range. My bow will do out to 110, but anything past 30ft. robs me of my SA.
This is why we keep you near the back of the line, Iddy. If we're spread out enough, I doubt he can hit all of us at once.
And okay, so he probably will know we're coming. But it's not like we can sneak unnoticed through the Astral plane anyway.

Question for all the spelcasters and manifesters: Where are you keeping track of your spells used/spell slots/power points used?
http://www.soulriders.net/forum/index.php/topic,102415.0.html
I edit this whenever I cast anything.
I saw some discussion about buying magical items the past few days, so I'd like to review and clarify what's acceptable there and what's not. From the recruitment post:
QuoteBuying and selling magic items will not be common in this game. There will be times and places where you can do this in a limited capacity, but I'm not going for full magic shopping here. I'd rather try and give out interesting magical items to use instead. If there's something you really want, such as a stat booster or a +1 whatever weapon, I suggest getting it with your starting gold.
This means that why the occasional chance to buy something may occur, it's not something you can get on demand or expect. If you're expecting to go to a magic store the first town you get to and stock up, you're going to be sorely disappointed. That isn't to say that you can't buy anything. The following can be purchased at any large city, assuming a day's time to make connections and a decent gather information check or other connections
Scrolls
Potions
Wondrous magical items no greater than 900 gold in value. Do note that this is for the SRD only, other books may have things below the pricing threshold, but I'll want to look at them first. Ask me.
Really, the point of this is to avoid the typical gold for items shopping routine from most games. Magic items, when you find them, will be more unique and hopefully interesting than the norml. Garlicbane comes to mind here, as does that iron mountain consumable from this past session. Further, this opens the door for me to include more boosts of an unusual nature. Don't worry about keeping up with what magic items you'll be expected to have RAW. I'll be tailoring encounters to fit this gaming style.
As a secondary point, this does not mean you can't sell magic items you've come to possess. However, it won't be an open and shut affair and will require some effort. Ask me if you get something you'd like to try and fence for cash.
As a final note, I'm sure there will be plenty of reasons and rewards to use your money on. They'll be more creative than getting the next +1 on your armor or sword.

Right. How do you tell what spells you've expended? I just see a spell list.
I erase spells used as they're expended in-game. Which is why there's only three memorized spells for level 3 right now (used Haste and Slow last night). Is there some need to track fired spells in greater detail?
No, that's fine. I just wanted to be clear on how you're doing it, in case I need to keep track myself for whatever reason.
Okay. Dune approved my swapping Animal Cohort next level per the feat description. So far the suggestions I have gotten have been Fleshraker, Crocodile, or Dire Bat.
Croc is out because heavy grapple creatures are a pain. Any other suggestions?
I know absolutely nothing about familiars. You could get Yulia mk II?
Has to go off of the Druid Animal Companions.
Note: Dire bat = Flying Mount. Fleshraker has 5 raking attacks.

Fleshraker is a little too high optimization for this game, methinks. Paradoxically, I think the giant bat as a mount is better in this game, but it's also far easier for me to work with. So I'm fine with the bat and don't wanna deal with the pouncing poisonous dinosaur.
Hmm.. Alright. Bat it be, I guess. Unless there is another suggestion?
Bat is Grat.

> roll d20+7 Herbalist
* Hatbot --> "Iddy rolls d20+7 Herbalist and gets 27."12 [d20=20]
EDIT: Roll was meant to be used for Herbs from Hades Plane.
Herbs native to Hades are renowned for their depressive, sedative, poisonous and mild hallucinatory effects. As a plane that exemplifies evil and despair, its herbs also reflect this. Almost any herb or organic compound from Hades, regardless of any other effect, can be used to induce depression. Common herbs from Hades are:
Graywort: This simple herb is found in places that rocks break through the surfce of Oinos. When blended into any non alcoholic liquid, it inflicts deep despair and mild sedative effects. The victim will often mope around in a half asleep daze, losing hope in everything and succumbing to deep despair. This herb is safe to gather, though any bare skin contact should be wiped clean with a dry cloth.
Hag's Molt: A herb with sharp gray thistles, the uses of his herb are two fold. It is a poisonous compound, reducing the motor skills and agility of those ravaged by it. Creatures immune to poison, such as fiends, find Hag's Molt to cause hallucinatory episodes instead. The contents of these episodes vary, but if uninterrupted, they lead to the victim flaying themselves with their bare hands. This is where the name of the herb came from. This herb works on skin contact, this requiring gloves to safely harvest it. Of note, yugoloths are completely immune to both effects of this herb.
Styx Tears: These clumps of red algae-like herbs are found on the banks of the river Styx. When ground down and administered as a medicine, the victim falls into a massive despair, forgetting everything save for the most heart-rending, miserable memories they have. This lasts for several hours, assuming the victim does not successfully attempt suicide, which is said to be a common result of exposure.
Would someone be nice and make a list of all the loot you guys have gathered so far?

Thanks Iddy!
In other news, what's the party's next move? Resting? Going on? Something else? Uguuing? Let me know.
I suggest resting and interrogating the Knight. Maybe he knows of place where we can steal a boat. Alternatively, perhaps we could recruit him into helping us knife that dirty Charnolath that sent us to die. I want to spit on that bastard's corpse. Him having a shard is purely coincidental.
Also, if everyone thinks it's relatively safe enough, I want to ingest the Iron Monument in preparation for our next fight.
Okay, that's one. Chime in if you can, people, since I'd like to resolve a rest before session. Assuming you take one, but I've heard it from a few people now so I'm assuming things are leaning that way.
I wouldn't call being -anywhere- in Hades "relatively safe", Zeph. A sentiment shared by many others, I assure you!
I'm more interested in finding a way out of that plane, and freeing the spirit in the soul gem (assuming nobody else doubts its identity and wants to do something to investigate it). We can come back for the dream shard and vengeance later.
Does anyone else want revenge now? Morana will still fight if asked to, just stating my own preference here.
I want to wake up and GTFO of this place. Thyan's had about enough of this place, and will be a surly bastard until his Cha is healed decently.
I'm also down for waking the Knight. Too bad we don't have anyone with Sense Motive or a way to figure out his alignment.
I'm also interested in finding out more about this angel. Though, I imagine a soul diamond with an Angel's soul inside is a pretty big prize in Hades. I think either the Night Hag is going to come after us for it, or every single damn thing we get anywhere close to might be attracted to it and try to kill us for it.
GTFO gets my vote. Rest*, talk to the knight and hope he knows of a way out. If he doesn't, we find a way to cross the river and head for the Gray Monument because it's the only lead we have, even if it's one given to us my an incredibly sketchy person who tried to murder us. Yes, she may very well be hanging around there for us, but we have absolutely no idea where anything else is on this plane. I'll memorize Analyze Portal so we can at least tell where the hell we're going (hopefully not literally) if/when we find the thing.
Zeph, wait 'til we've found something resembling civilization on a hospitable plane before eating that thing.
(*I recommend we do this somewhere safely away from the hag's shack. She'll come back. If not for us, then for the soul gem. And then for us when she doesn't find the soul gem. Walk an hour or so away just to minimize chances of being found while we rest?)
Distance is a good idea. If I can get up and about, I can hunt down a camp site and try to conceal it, I believe. I think that's a Survival check on both counts?
It is, assuming you can get out of your zero charisma funk.
Survival is Int, I believe.
Also, I have Survival due to it being a prerequisite for Fist of the Forest. I can roll if Iddy can't.
Survival is wisdom-based, actually.
It is Wisdom based. I'm also waiting on Gate to chime in, since Fiora's the healer. What she does matters a lot here since she controls the tide of Lesser Restorations and healing.

Move, rest, GTFO sounds like a plan. I need to rest before I have anymore Lesser Restores(since this is all still teh same damn day as when I used them to recover from the mindfucker). So I'll drop a couple lesser restores on Thyan tomorrow, but for now we'll have to find a place to camp without him.
During downtime, if we find a safe place to rest up, Fiora will want to try and talk to the angel in a gem we have.
Okay! First order of business is finding a decent place to camp. Aleira, you wanted to make survival for this? Go ahead and roll such in #elysium, then post it here.

At last some fortune is with the party. You wander a ways inland, where you find a crack in the ground. It leads to a small cave. It's not easy to notice and secluded, giving you relative safety to rest in.
Morana: 42(-1int, -1wis)/68, Hamish: 48/60 (-2int), Thyan: 19/32(-10 cha), Iris: 43/46, Aleira: 33/36, Fiora: 45/56, Birdbrain: 22/22, Skyrose: 15/15'

Also will use my last 3rd level for Create Food/Water so we can eat, wash up a bit, and I'll make sure to get something in the knight and thyan while they're out. I'm sure Fiora can safely feed an unconcious person with her skill at Heal.
Yeah, feeding them goes without incident.
Current HPs before resting:
Ko-ZephisMari changes topic to 'Buff and planar information central for all planar gaming. | Morana: 66(-1int, -1wis)/68, Hamish: 48/60 (-2int), Thyan: 29/32(-10 cha), Iris: 43/46, Aleira: 33/36, Fiora: 54/56, Birdbrain: 22/22, Skyrose: 15/15'
Any more healing or is that it?
Iris will expend one of her Opportunistic Piety healings on Hamish since he's still missing a decent amount. Everyone else is close enough to full, I think.
(That is 16 HP, so Hamish is at full.)
Okay then. That puts Hamish at full.
> roll 1d100+10

The dreams of the party are colorful, bright and restful. You sleep well, even if your dreams are fleeting things, you find yourselves rested and recovered. Further, Thyan has awakened and the Knight is stirring! There's only one hangup - Morana's wisdom damage isn't healing. In fact, it's getting worse! Morana has suffered another two points of wisdom damage.

Okay, this can be done tomorrow if you're around for it. It needs to be done IC but it's a bit fragmentary, so if you want to knock it out tomorrow we can.

Morana has the Grays. Her will and wisdom will continue to crumble until she reaches zero. At that point she will become a petitioner of Hades, forever damned. It cannot be cured or reversed on Hades, the only way to stop the progression and heal it is to leave Hades. Lesser Restoration will fail to help her.

The Gray Monument only stirs one bit of trivia within Iris. It is the phrase 'The void screams at you. Sign with blood?'
I vote we get the hell out before I do become a petitioner! I'm at wis 7 right now, fyi! >_>

Iddy, you were interested in crafting some poisons? What sorta poisons? The Styx Tears you gathered up?
Yarp. I suppose since I'm up, I can check near camp for anything additional, too.
Okay, you have enough time in the morning to either look around or attempt to craft one dose. Your call on which, since the party isn't looking to linger.
I'll use what I have on hand, and keep a look-out while we travel.
Edit: You said I had 2-4 doses of Styx Tears.
Paste how much of that herb you have from loot real quick?
Okay, make a herbalism check and post the result.
> roll d20+7-2+2 Herbalism
* Hatbot --> "Iddy rolls d20+7-2+2 Herbalism and gets 21."12 [d20=14]
That +2 is from MW Herbalist kit.
Thyan makes a single dose of the following. Further, he has enough to make two more doses, assuming time later. The format used is from here: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Poisons
Styx Tears; ingested DC 20; despair for 1d4 hours and deeper despair.
This means as follows. The poison type is ingested, which means it has to be eaten or otherwise consumed. The fortitude save to resist is 20. The result of initial damage is despair, which is treated as a crushing despair spell. The secondary damage is deeper despair, which causes the victim to need to make a DC 20 will save after every hour of the duration or succumb to despair and attempt suicide. The secondary damage lasts as long as the initial damage.

See attatchment. He quite litterally asked for this.
I suppose I can only say one thing: Terrifying.
Because it was request by Dunes: new spells for level 7 were Attune Form and Stoneskin.
Remember that stone skin has a 250 gold material component per casting, Cid. You'll need to get to some sort of civilization to buy some diamond dust.
...Orb of Fire it is, then!
Dune, assuming we ever make it to high enough level to finish off our prestige class (fastest for me since Outcast Champion is only a 5 level prestige class), can we pick a new prestige class, or are you going to stick with the 2-base+1-prc only model?
Most likely stick with the current model, but I'll re-evaluate it as it comes closer to happening. Ask me again in three levels.
*nods nods*

You make two more doses and your raw materials are now expended.
Everyone's finished leveling up, right? Post and say if you have or haven't so I know.
Done.
All but my new 1st level spell. No idea what to take, so leaving that blank for now.
Okay, noted. Come up with it during the next week then.

Thyan makes one dose from the bruisewort.
Bruisewort Paste
This paste, if used as part of bandaging wounds, restores 2 hit points. In addition, it grants a +2 bonus when used in conjunction with a heal check to stop an ongoing, bleeding wound, such as caused by a bearded devil's glaive.
Thyan makes two doses from the thistlerod.
Golden Thistlerod; contact DC 18; allergic reaction and 1d6 con.
This poison only affects living evil creatures and fiends. Fiends find that their normal immunity to poison is ineffective against Golden Thistlerod. Those creatures who fail the initial save take a -2 penalty to attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, initiative and armor class due to sudden, painful hives all over the body. These hives last for one hour or until they receive the benefit of a neutralize poison spell.
This is all:

Outstanding.
I approve. As does Hamish.
We don't have a session for two weeks and this kinda blows. If any of you wanna get together for some IC chatting as your elf friend escorts you along, feel free.
I would be up for random chatting at some point if someone else had time to kill, sure. Two weeks without gaming always sucks.
I'm up for that as well. Anyone who wants to, just hit me up in IRC. I'm usually around.
Reminder: No session this week. If you guys wanna chat, one of you is gonna need to take charge and get it done.
I won't be around for chatting. Some IRL freinds of mine get together every Wed and this is a rare chance for me to go hang with them, so gonna do that.
HEY LISTEN!
Iddy, name your bird!
That...is not Yulia. :P
Yulia evolved. Blame Iddy.
Is bird.
A bird that is free and flapping!
Bird.
The bird has a name.
I can change it to Yulia if want, though.
Keep it Helena!
Logs'll go up sometime this weekend.
It's all good, just get it done before next session. Alternately I can club the Cideon into doing it.
I forgot to do it Wednesday. Thought to myself, "Time to put up logs." Then nothing. Now I have family sleeping on my couch.
As Zeph is making a new character, and there is effectively no other melee character besides Morana, I would like to retrain the "Master of Tactics" aura, which granted +cha to damage on flanking, for "Determined Caster", which grants a bonus on rolls to overcome spell resistance.
Which should be appreciated between Hamish (assuming spell resistance affects psychic), Iris, and Zeph's new character. And for any debuffs of Fiora's too.
That's fine, go ahead.
Could you guys resort and reassign shards since Aleira is leaving the party?
In case no one noticed, logs are up.
Thanks!
Bonuses to SR checks would be dope.
So, serious question, where are we going next? I presume we immediately check shardsense to see if there's another one on this plane. But if there isn't, well, it sounds like on the Astral we can pretty easily find a portal to wherever we might want to go.
Iris's suggestion would be any place less likely to be filled with things wanting to kill us or worse on sight (her preference would naturaly be Mechanus).
Fiora would argue that mechanus is not nessesarily a good idea, considering there are Chaotic party members. We may be accosted by those wishing to convert them, most likely by force. We want to make sure we can protect our own, or have something good to trade whatever inevitable has the shard, before taking that place on.
She would think Ysgard or Arborea, or start checking out Elemental Planes.
I wouldn't mind checking out some of the Elemental planes, either.
Quote from: Gatewalker on September 24, 2012, 01:56:22 PMFiora would argue that mechanus is not nessesarily a good idea, considering there are Chaotic party members.
The converse argument could easily be made for the lawful party members and chaotic planes. There's always going to be someone whose alignment conflicts with whatever outer plane we're on. But however much Iris might find the plane of consequence-free killing personally disagreeable, I guess Ysgard is one of the safer places to be.
And probably Earth/Air out of the elemental planes? I know we hit those two first in planar 1 as well, but there's a reason for that: it sounds like survival is tough on the other two unless a party's well-equipped with spells to ignore the planar effects.
Incidentally, who wants the vacated shard? It is completely anti-mage, so I'm not picking that one up.
The difference between taking Chaotic people into Lawful planes and taking Lawful people into Chaotic planes, is that Chaotic sorts aren't inherently about making everyone act like them. Slaad and the like are likely to attack us whether or not we are aligned with them ethically...or just as likely to do whatever else they feel like doing. We may have some more issues, but attempting to forceably convert folks is a largely Lawful trait.
And Fiora is saying this as a *paladin*. So.
I kinda figured we were going for Ysgard since ages ago. We'd mentioned that, and we still haven't gotten there.
Okay. I'm going to call for a vote now. You can still debate if you want, but I want a vote out of all of you by 9 PM EST Tuesday. That's in 24 hours. Bold your vote and feel free to continue on in the meantime.
Ysgard
Don't really care either way, as long as we're not going to hell or the abyss, negative energy plane, or anything that's really painful (such as fire and many other planes).
We did sort of accomplish the goal of going to Ysgard when we did training montage with the dragon and leveled up, but we can only get -more- experience out of going there!
I do recommend ditching Aleira before we actually reach there though. We can't kill her off there and not expect her to come back! <_<
Ysgard is fine.
Ysgard
I'm in complete agreement. I personally don't care where we go, to be honest. But I don't believe that I've ever been to Ysgard, so admittedly, curiosity compels me.
HEY LISTEN!
Bold! Bold! Be bold!
Or I'll drag you away, Iris!
BOLDLY BOLDING INTO THE BOLDLY BOLDNESS OF BOLD YSGARD!
BOLD!
I will not be able to attend this evening. I just got a call saying that there's been a death in the family.
Eeew. My deepest condolences, Zeph.
We're down Merc'n'Zeph now and Yuth will be late. I may cancel now if we have anyone feeling sick or any other signs of awayness. We'll see how it firms up by gametime.
Did y'all take the axe or leave it?
Iris is certainly not taking it. If other people want to try hauling it onto the cart (it sounded like this would take a group effort) that's up to them.
Meanwhile!
Zeph's making a new PC and so is Iddy. If we're rotating party members, does anyone else want to switch out PCs? If two are swapping, there's no harm in another.
I'm happy enough with Morana. I do suspect that at some level before 10 I'll want to do a bit of rebuilding (ie, stick the outcast champion on marshal side instead of paladin side), but that's not the same thing.
Hamish pleases me. He'll get retuned over time but I see him becoming very solid.
Okay.
Zeph and Iddy, try to have characters posted by Tuesday morning. I'll need time to go over them.
Roger.
Note for future reference: I'll be adjusting starting gold in the future for new characters, as I'm not handing out a bunch of magic items.
Iddy sheet audit.
- What was your previous race? I can't tell offhand.
- Note that with your load you're at medium carrying capacity. That inflicts a +3 max dex cap (irrelevant), a -3 check penalty (which works like armor check penalty) and a -10 to speed. You're only a few pounds over, you may want to drop a bit of crap or do something to alleviate this.
- Okay, you have all your class abilities under feats. Could you sort the feats out from the other abilities?
- Heighten Spell is misspelled. Nitpick mode on.
- Color Spray isn't a bad choice for your SLA, but between outsider good will saves, SR and the fact that it has the mind-affecting descriptor, you're going to be fighting an uphill battle in getting it work. Fair warning.
- Note that the Spell Compendium version of Greater Mage Armor removed the 25 GP material component. You can ditch all the platinum discs.
- As a reminder, all casters are required to have a theme to their spell selection. What's yours? I admit none comes to mind when I look at your spell list. The relevant information is quoted below.
Full casters such as wizards, clerics, druids and sorcerers will face additional restrictions. No druids, first of all. They're a mess and a nature worshiper can be emulated with a cleric in any case. Clerics, wizards and sorcerers will be requires to stick to themes rather than going hog wild with the spell lists. Further, certain traveling magic such as plane shift, teleportation and other magics will be restricted or banned. More information will be provided once we have a forum and group set up. If you have any questions that you need answered about this beforehand, feel free to ask.
More for Iddy:
<Merc> Okay, I found the ACF. Iddy did his spells wrong. The ACF does "grant" an SLA+bonus spells...by trading spells known or spells/day slots.
<Merc> I thought it looked strange that he had so many more spells than Zeph.
<Zeph> I was wondering about that. >_>
<Zeph> Iddy was looking like a damn beast
<Merc> Yeah, all I saw that was being traded was the familiar, and then he was getting waaaay too many bonus ACF stuff.
<Merc> Page 107 of RotD if you want to browse through that ACF, Dune.
<Merc> Also, he doesn't get the spells known from Draconic Heritage, he has to pick up another feat, "Draconic Legacy" to get those bonus spells (Control water (4th level), speak with animals, water breathing). He does however get a save bonus of +2 vs magic sleep, paralysis and electricity.
Edit: Iddy actually gets a +3 save bonus, as he has three draconic feats, even though they're not listed as such: Dragontouched (through Dragonfire Adept), Draconic Heritage (through Dragonblooded Sorcerer), and Draconic Skin. Oddly enough, the first two both give the dragonblooded subtype, so he's double-blooded or something. =p
<Merc> Oh, btw, are you going to use the stacking natural armor rule for dragonfire adept that you created in some other game (possibly B3 but I don't recall)? Iddy seems to also be missing the Scales class feature from DFA which gives +2 natural armor, but normally doesn't stack with Dragon Disciple's natural armor.
Edit: Another comment for Dune possibly houseruling -
Currently Iddy, you have a warlock invocation (Dark One's Own Luck), not a dragonfire adept one. They're technically different from one another and technically not accessible to each other's class.
This Class Chronicles (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/20070613) article from Wizards actually creates the feat "Infernal Adept" to allow some crossing over. It's a pretty sucky feat that requires a higher level than you got though and if Dune's houseruling the natural armor thing and doesn't care... *shrugs*
HEY LISTEN!!!!!
Chole needs to take ranks in [Concentration] if she's going to front line fight, okay?
Since I didn't do this last night, session feedback goes here.
Overall I felt this was a decent session. The beginning and end were strong with ample RPing chances. The middle was dominated by the stone giant fight. Now perhaps it was just me, but I felt this fight dragged. In fact, I rather anticipated it would. New PCs, new tactics and new dangers usually results in slower battles. I wanted to get that out of the way first thing, especially if anything required tweaks. (See Yulia's post). Sheet feedback for Chole will come tonight.
I was much better prepared the last time I played a caster! Iddy's Excel sheet actually helped me stay organized quite a bit. I definitely think I'll be using it again should I have to reroll another character anytime soon.
Don't think I made any huge, huge, mistakes on my sheet, but the thing I'm worried about most is my math. I'm definitely expecting to see some problems with my skill point allocation, since I never fail to mess that up somehow.
Yeah, you had your spells down pat. I approved of that.
I'll go over your skills when I audit the sheet this evening.
Zeph sheet audit, take one. Action!
- Note what level of fighter Chole is. I presume 7.
- Your stats are 20, 17, 17, 14, 14, 14. Your rollchar set was 17, 17, 15, 14, 14, 14. You got +1 from level 4, but I don't see where the other four stat points have come from. Your equipment? For that matter, I don't see a list or description of your equipment anywhere.
- Houserule 3 turns toughness from a flat +3 hp to +1 hp per hit die. So you should have +7 hit points from toughness. This is a net gain of 4 hit points.
- Do you have your hit point rolls handy? I'd like them to check your hit points.
- How exactly do you tally up your armor class?
- On the subject of your math, post how you tallied up saves too.
- What's the damage for your weapon?
- Note where on the body the Lady's Blessing appears.
- You get a total of 8 feats. 1 from being human, 1 from level 1, 3 and 6 and 1 from fighter levels 1, 2, 4 and 6. I only see seven selected, so you're short one. For that matter, note which ones are fighter bonus feats.
- You choose a weapon type/weapon group for weapon focus, not an individual weapon.
- You're using the stormcaster from Stormwrack, right?
- We're using the weapon groups option from the SRD (see houserules). Make sure to select your weapon groups as normal.
- I'm using the assumption that you're at 6th level sorc casting based on the Stormwrack Stormcaster. If I'm wrong disregard this. Anyway, your spells known are correct as are your spells per day. I presume your spell themes are obvious (storm shit)?
- Okay, skill points. Per level you get 4 by houserule, 1 for being human, 2 for your intelligence modifier and 2 for your class. That's 9 SP per level (quadruple at 1st level) for a total of 90 SP at level 7. This assumes your int score is natural and not item boosted. If it is say so since that changes things. Anyhow, you have a total of 79 SP spent. More on this in a bit. At level 7, the most ranks you can have in a skill is 10 ranks. You have 11 ranks in Diplomacy, Intimidate, Knowlege:Arcana and Spellcraft so that's in error. Secondly, Diplomacy and Search aren't class skills for you. You'd need be be buying these at half ranks anyway and this further muddies the skill point calculations. I'm going to sit down with you at some point before next session and settle this out with you. Oh and mind what Yulia said: You'll want some Concentration ranks too.
That's enough for now. Let's clear all this up and see where we're at after this.

As you may have seen in chat or in the downtime topic, Yuth has to withdraw from the game come December. We'll phase him out shortly.
Considering my chaotic bend, perhaps I should stay behind on YSGARD?
Hamish decides to give marriage another shot, this time with hot amazon barbarian chick instead of grumpy frumpy wizard girl?
Anything's possible?
Info nuggets from the Planar 2 corpse.
- Siri was trying to get you all killed. Not out of malice, but out of pure boredom. The sword has an inbound need to see conflict and drive those around it to conflict. It was telepathically nudging your foes as well as encouraging you all. Iris being rather boring caused a sharp reaction against her from Siri.
- Choosing to take the ferryman 'loth's offer would have immediately damned Iris to Hades. The realm would have claimed her life and soul, as someone who would sacrifice their child for gain is surely a part of that bleak realm. This would result in !rollchar for Cid.
- Fiora had faint traces of fey blood. The club was the tip-off and exploring this could lead to her gaining the Fey Blooded feat as a bonus feat. It wasn't anything beyond that, just a detail if she wished to explore it.
- The Illithid had fled the Astral immediately after the battle between it and the party. It had an inkling what the shard was and valued it. It had no intention of staying on the Astral after being attacked. What you sensed was another shard altogether. Getting it back would have been complicated.
- I had toyed with a Planar 1 quest for awhile. It would be a chance to put right what went wrong, involving time travel and thwarting the Lady of the Green Kirtle's play on Cold. Yulia was the only survivor of a bad end, driven mad from the Lady's magic. It would have been a chance to give the game a better ending and a neat tie in, but it didn't really mesh with Planar 2's plot. It could've netted Yulia as a NPC follower - about the only one I'd do this game and that's only for the sake of a legacy character.
- Be glad y'all didn't try the Pale Monument. That was a game over machine waiting to happen.
- The Lady was a NG, well meaning spirit overseeing dreams. No evil and no twists here, she truly only meant the best for everyone.
Re: Fiora's fey blood - Fact of gaming: make a PC an orphan, and the DM WILL give them some kinda abnormal background/bloodline/etc.
Re: Siri - Called it. Was wondering if there was any way Fiora could justify tossing the sword in a volcano, but game ended before Siri got so blatent about it that she would have done anything.
Re: Lady of Dreams - Okay, that was good to know. I was honestly a bit wondering if you were going to pull some giant twist like that, but I'm glad it wasn't.
Also, seeing whatever other Dream Shards you'd already worked out would be cool.

Yep. I was underplaying it on purpose, but I figured it could be an interesting hook.

I was kind of hoping he wouldn't, as his riffs on Iris may be routinely giggle.
QuoteRe: Lady of Dreams - Okay, that was good to know. I was honestly a bit wondering if you were going to pull some giant twist like that, but I'm glad it wasn't.
Yeah, I felt it would have been trite to pull that. Sometimes a saint really is a saint.
Quotelso, seeing whatever other Dream Shards you'd already worked out would be cool.
At some point, sure.
