<Kotono> ----------
<Kotono> > "I can't stop looking," The second repeats, "But everyone else is blind!"
<Kotono> <Moore> Moore hesitates for a moment before he speaks up, "So you're... going to carry on his light, so to speak?"
<Kotono> <Lucy> "I already got your name," Lucy tells him gently. "There is no need to repeat it, Mister I can't stop looking."
<Kotono> > "For now, for now," The third answers, "The light must travel on."
<Kotono> * Veren turns to look at the first one, hoping for a more reasonable interaction.
<Kotono> <Moore> Moore nods, with the look of someone who doesn't understand at all.
<Kotono> <Lucy> "Is anyone's light interested in traveling on our ship?"
<Kotono> Bolethon inclines his head forward, very slowly. Almost as if bowing instead of merely nodding. "Drooling, growing, creeping paths ahead. Glowing paths." He looks down, "Shredded like wheat before the scythe."
<Kotono> The second merely replies, "I can't stop looking. I worry everyone else is blind to what's important, but I think that's the trick because that's what's important."
<Lucy> "I am terribly glad to hear that! Now then, let us discuss payment."
<Kotono> "A path to be your navigator?" The third asks, "I am Flanagan who is not Flanagan. The paths through the sea do not lead to what once was, do they? Beautiful Rossalund burns as kindle on the fires of revenge."
<Lucy> "It sounds like we have three applicants!" Lucy excitedly tells Kamhoff. "Can we hire all of them?"
<Kotono> "Payment? If you could help him stop looking, we would all be grateful," Bolethon says, looking pointedly to the second.
* Veren turns to Bolethon.
<Kotono> Kamhoff eyes Lucy flatly, "Hell no! We only need one navigator! I can manage in a pinch if that one goes tits up dead."
<Veren> "You're the only one who's spoken even remotely normally."
<Kotono> "I can't stop looking," The second echoes, this time looking to Lucy's....well, what Kamhoff said. "I am blind and yet I see?"
<Kotono> "This place is not a place, you must understand. It is a place that was never a place and will never be a place. It is not natural. A demiplane," he spreads his arms wide, "What grows in the place that is not a place to those that look to it?" Bolethon says.
<Lucy> "Aren't you tying yourself and your power growth to this very unnatural demiplane by your very arcane studies?" Lucy asks curiously.
<Kotono> Flanagan who is not Flanagan then clears his throat and says, "For now, it is Flanagan. Is that not enough to remember the cries that came?"
<Kotono> "Choices and paths are made," Bolethon nods and offers his hand out in the vague direction of Lucy, "I accept your offer, if it is given."
<Kotono> Meanwhile, a middle aged human comes out with a plate of food. It looks like some sort of small rodent -rats? Several of them all cooked and roasted up, over a bed of rice with gravy. "Here's the lunch you ordered," she says, "Fresh orc cooking!" It's put down at the table in front of everyone.
* Veren raises an eyebrow at this, considers the fact that he will be living on a ship for the foreseeable future, decides he might as well get used to the taste and reaches for some.
<Lucy> "Can I please have one for my cat, to go?"
<Kotono> "Mr. Cat? He already got one." The woman says, "He is a he, isn't he?"
<Kotono> The rodent's rather tasty. Nicely seasoned if nothing else.
<Lucy> "Oh yes, Mister Pepo is a he. But is he the same Mister Cat you are thinking of? Therein lies the question."
<Kotono> "The path is linked," The third light mage murmurs. "But that path..."
<Kotono> "Black cat, cute?" she asks back, wavering a hand, "Likes rats?"
<Lucy> "I rather think that covers most cats or none at all, depending on how one parses 'likes'," Lucy muses, playing with a short strand of her hair.
<Kotono> Meanwhile a couple of rough, burly dwarves come in. "Ho there, Muh! Can we get one of the roast orc specials?"
<Kotono> Said woman calls, "Sure thing," she calls, "I'll have drinks out in a jiff." Then back to Lucy, "Well, it was probably him. Got to go."
<Kotono> Meanwhile, Old Kamhoff clears his throat, "Be all of this as it may, it sounds like we have our navigator," he rises, "Going to need an escort to the ship, Bolethon? You're hired, by the way."
<Lucy> "This is very unfortunate," Lucy notes. "On the not inconsiderable chance that more cats than Mister Pepo exist in Freeport, he may well be denied a unique culinary experience."
<Moore> "I'm sure Pepo can handle his own... delicacies." Moore says with a smile.
<Kotono> "The way will find itself," Bolethon rises, as Kamhoff laughs, "Pepo's a mouser. Better than my old bundle of fur. Have you seen him hunting around the ship for rats?"
<Veren > "I think, perhaps, he does more for challenge and skill than anything else."
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. So now that you have a navigator, do y'all have anything you want to do/look for/whatever in Freeport Rock?
<Veren > OOC: A line on side-quest supplies for Kam to make us awesome stuff.
<Moore> OOC: Moore may as well sell the masterwork weapons he picked up to have some money on hand if that's possible. He might buy a clock with it!
<Pepo> OOC: Pepo's work is done here
<Lucy> OOC: My research awaits, back on the ship
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. First of all, which masterwork weapons are you selling?
<Kotono> OOC: Better yet, post those in loot and I'll reply there.
<Kotono> OOC: Make a gather information check, Veren.
<Kotono> OOC: Or diplo, forgot it's rolled into diplomacy in Pathfinder.
<Moore> OOC: I will help Veren out after I make my purchases.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. How are you helping him?
<Kotono> OOC: So hold that roll a sec, Veren.
<Moore> OOC: Pretty much just asking around if anyone has any rare materials or places on other islands where they might find good materials, alchemical or otherwise.
<Kotono> OOC: I mean if you're using any powers, spells or the like to bolster him.
<Veren > OOC: What skill replaced Gather Info?
<Kotono> OOC: Diplo.
<Moore> OOC: Oh, yes, I can certainly do that.
<Moore> OOC: Inspire Confidence for +2 and then my Regalia bonus for a +5 insight bonus.
<Veren > OOC: +5 total or +7?
<Kotono> OOC: Cool. Also post. +7 total, Iddy.
<Veren > roll 1d20+8+7 Diplo/Moore bonus
* Hatbot --> "Veren rolls 1d20+8+7 Diplo/Moore bonus and gets 24." 12 [1d20=9]
<Kotono> OOC: Also, strike that post. Pasted too much on the third offer. Edit coming.
<Moore> OOC: Do you want me to aid as well or nah?
<Kotono> OOC: Edited.
<Kotono> OOC: Roll for aiding.
<Moore> roll 1d20+19 aiding
* Hatbot --> "Moore rolls 1d20+19 aiding and gets 32." 12 [1d20=13]
<Kotono> Veren turns up a fair few leads. (More)
<Kotono> 1. There's a sunken ship deep in the heart of Freeport Rock. Anyone who can convince the owner to let them in and survive can find all sorts of strange things there. 'course, rumor is that it's haunted by something nasty. (More)
<Kotono> 2. Silver from Rossalund, a land to the south, can be good for certain processes. The thing is that the land is ruled by a group of unpleasant medusas known as the Coven. Requires a soft touch to get in. (More)
<Kotono> 3. There's a place with a magic academy, Hillmar. Great for alchemical components. Expensive though, so bring money and trade goods. (More)
<Kotono> 4. Far to the south of Rossalund is an island with a volcano. In the center is pure magical gold! OOC: That's the last. Now what, y'all?
<Veren > OOC: I think we should try the sunken ship first, if we can get water breathing somewhere. Kam's dealt with hauntings, so help there. Then on to Hilmar for Lucy, then either back to Roussalund for salvage or to the volcano.
<Lucy> OOC: Sunken ship follows by Hilmar sounds fine by me, we'll see next
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Moore and Pepo, opinions?
<Pepo> OOC: those sound fine
<Moore> OOC: Yep.
<Kotono> OOC: Any prep for it or just going to go look into it?
<Lucy> OOC: I'll return for my axe, then I'm good
<Veren > OOC: I'd like to ask Kam about how he dealt with the haunting. Do we need water breathing?
<Pepo> OOC: I can't breathe water, so barring air pockets my usefulness will be limited.
<Pepo> OOC: I guess I could manifest an astral construct around me and use it as a mini-sub...
<Kotono> The next 'morning' the party has breakfast in the ship's galley. It's a small little space with a few tables. It's a mix of foods from the port, even a roast rat for Pepo. Bolethon's there as well, as Old Kamhoff sits back, "Fancy ass eating in a port town," he declares, "Too much and it softens you up!" OOC: If you wanted to ask him those things about it, go ahead.
<Veren > "Kamhoff. You said this ship was haunted before. How did you deal with the ghosts? I came across information about a sunken ship here in Freeport. Rumors say there could be things useful to your research, but also that it is haunted."
<Lucy> That's just silly, so Lucy decides to ignore it. Instead, she pays attention to Veren's question.
<Pepo> Pepo purrs quite happily as he chows down on his plump roasted rat. Much better than the lean ones found aboard after a few weeks voyage.
<Kotono> Bolethon busies himself petting Pepo rather than eating. Meanwhile, Old Kamhoff huffs, "I solved the reason they haunted the ship," he puffs his chest out and thumps it, "Then scared them right off! Hah!"
* Veren nods.
<Pepo> Pepo permits this, but doesn't really respond to it either. Eating is more important than being petted!
<Moore> "We may need your intimidation skills again, it sounds like." Moore says as he enjoys the food.
<Veren > "Hmm... Then we will likely need to do additional research."
<Lucy> "Just how can there be a sunken ship? Wouldn't it keep on sinking forever?"
<Kotono> "Well one, I don't go off the ship on the adventures," Old Kamhoff says, "I'm too old to risk myself in that sort of silliness, that's what I pay people for. Two, it may not work in that case. I believe each haunting tends to be unique."
<Veren > "Hmm... Do you know any weapons or materials that are effective against ghosts or undead?"
<Kotono> "More fur," Bolethon intones aloud, "Yet then it is true."
<Lucy> "No, I don't think fur has anything to do with a ship not sinking into the light."
<Kotono> Scratching at his left wrist before going on, "Yeah, holy ones. You know, the sort of thing the churchies use. Healing magic works in a pinch, too."
<Veren > "Well. Moore has healing magic, but I doubt we want to regulate our only source to fighting. Do you have any on hand, or know where we can acquire some holy weapons?"
<Kotono> "Holy weapons? Go bother a church, there's a few out there," Waving vaguely towards the city, "Nothing like that, just a few potions for workshop emergencies."
<Moore> "Maybe we should just go see how sunk 'sunk' actually is before we worry about any of the other details?" Moore asks. "I mean, if it's... really deep down there, we're pretty much... not going to be going, you know?"
* Veren nods.
<Veren > "A good point. Let us go."
<Kotono> OOC: Moving y'all along then.
<Kotono> roll 1d100
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 2." 12 [1d100=2]
<Kotono> The trip is without serious incident. There is one with an impressively stacked half-dragon, a too tight mail shirt and a bunch of onlookers, but you neatly avoid it and keep going. Deeper in Freerock Port you find things to get older, dirtier. More of a mismatch of old wood and newer wood replacing rot. You come to what you hear your destination is: A nameless building near the center, before
<Kotono> a hidden inner lagoon of light. Interestingly, a little ways away (separated by both land and a short fence) is a lake of actual water. There's a few men on guard there, but you can't see much from here otherwise.
<Lucy_> "Excuse me, is that actual water?" Lucy asks one of those men on guard. "With an actual ship sunken into the actual water?"
<Moore> "It's curious how it just contains itself naturally." Moore remarks to the light in the lagoon.
<Kotono> Going on over, Lucy gets the guard's attention. "Please stay back," he warns, "It's the only water source in Freerock. There's a sunken ship in the light lagoon on the other side," he gestures towards it with a short sword.
<Lucy_> "Oh! Yes, that would make a great deal more sense," she chirps, not coming closer, as requested. "I heard it was haunted?"
<Moore> Moore blinks. "They don't have anyone here who can just... create water?" Well, he can't either, but still!
<Kotono> "The lagoon? Heard so too," the guard says, "There's a treasure ship down there, stories say. From the old discovery of Amambo, laden with all the wonderful things you can imagine!"
<Veren > "And it has an owner of some kind?"
<Lucy_> "So what's the deal with it?" she asks curiously. "Why hasn't anyone done something about it yet?"
<Kotono> He shrugs, "There's a fellow in there," he gestures towards the building you were going to. "His name's Bash. He deals with it, seems to own it."
* Veren nods.
<Veren > "Thank you."
