Title: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 02:01:03 PM
Glitterosm is easy to find, as he's in his shop. He's touching it up, working on it and overall seeing to it. He greets you with a slight nod as you enter, "Your timing has improved," he observes.

"Things always have a way of working out for themselves." Moore says with a bit of a smile. "I'd like to request your assistance with something. Like Tryll, I'm trying to find ways to improve -- I have some ideas of my own, but I was hoping to get a numerologist's perspective. I understand that you can delve into the numbers to try and ascertain meaning from them. I would be willing to pay for your services if you think you could give me a direction to go in." He says, then he draws in a breath as he realizes he hasn't been terribly straight-forward.

"To be more specific, I think both my natural talents as a bard can be pushed further, as well as my... well, I have a moderate control over fate and chance in the short term, but I'm sure that could be strengthened as well."

Glitterosm merely turns and spreads his arms wide, "Tell me of your powers over fate and destiny. Describe them to me."

"I can manipulate it to help people do better at certain tasks, or to give them a bit more of a chance to just happen to be more skilled at something than normal." Moore says, as he takes a moment to demonstrate it. He looks at Glitterosm straight in the eyes. "You will succeed. You cannot possibly fail."

He's using Song of Fortune, which gives +5 to a skill check.

After that he takes a breath. "It doesn't last very long, unfortunately, but generally speaking that isn't a huge issue... but I'm working on trying to find a way to get it to last longer, also. Um... Beyond that, I help manipulate the luck around my allies attacks so that it's easier for them to strike at foe's weaknesses. I finally harnessed something else recently -- basically, if I focus all my attention onto a single target and maintain it, I can ebb luck away from them. It takes a great deal of my reserves, but generally speaking really has an impact. I could demonstrate that too, if you want."

Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 02:24:27 PM
Glitterosm is serene throughout all of that and says, "Demonstrate it."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 02:29:09 PM
"Okay." He takes a deep breath and looks to be intensely concentrating on something -- something around Glitterosm and not really at him. His eyes glaze over a bit as it looks almost as if he's daydreaming. However, as that happens...

He's using Melody of Misfortune, which is a supernatural ability if it makes any differences. It's -5 to Attacks/skills/saves and does not allow for a will save to resist it.

"I feel it," Giltterosm murmurs, "Yes, yes....tell me more. Do you have others? How else can you do this?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 02:37:40 PM
Moore takes a breath and blinks out of his daze, the effects quickly vanishing. "My bardic musics allow me to do similar things, but that's less about manipulating anything and more just motivation and fervor. I do seem to have some sort of knack for deflecting blows away from myself and...mm. It's hard to put into words, but I guess I have an intuition when it comes to moving quickly in battles." He adds. "But that's more or less it in terms of what I'm capable of doing with it... at least as far as I know. I've never tried combining it with my anarch abilities... I don't know that that would go well."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 02:42:32 PM
"Can you demonstrate any of it?" Glitterosm says, "Besides the bardic music, which I'm familiar with."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 02:47:09 PM
"Yes." Moore answers. "Well, not the parts on myself, but... well, actually, I might be able to, if you took a swing at me with something. Here, I'll help you do better at it, ironically enough." He clears his throat. "Hit me with your best shot!" He shouts. Glitterosm can feel it!

He gains +3 to attack and damage rolls and Improved Crit feats.

Glitterosm takes a skillful swing at you with his fist...and completely overextends, crashing down to the floor next to you. Face first. Ow.

"...I don't -think- that was me..." Moore says as he flies down to try and help him up as best as he can.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 02:56:54 PM
Glitterosm sits up, nose trickling blood as he looks at you tiredly. 'You forgot to mention your power of destroying my mystique," He grouses, "That is the second time you've managed to do that."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 03:03:22 PM
Moore smiles and casts a quick spell to heal Glitterosm.

CLW.

"I guess I'm rather unique in that regard, what can I say?" He asks with a grin. "Ah, sorry for interrupting with Tryll earlier, I probably should've waited, either way."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 03:06:01 PM
"You see, much of my work relies on people believing. There's power behind numerology, and those that buy into it fully will appreciate it more and spend more." He gets himself up, "Belief does not equal power, but it can make the power you have stronger."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 03:09:38 PM
Moore nods. "That makes sense. Sometimes, all I'm really doing is giving people confidence in something -- usually themselves. Either way, if you'd like, I'd be happy to spread the word about numerology when this is all said and done. It's a unique gift, if nothing else."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 03:26:51 PM
"Do so," Glitterosm picks himself up, "It'll give me a chance to see your skills work on a broader scale. Now, where were we?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 03:30:37 PM
"You were going to tell me a story about how I somehow combine a unique set of numbers for a pixie." Moore says with a laugh. "But I was hoping you might be able to come up with direction for me to pursue to give me greater control over what I can do, or to somehow augment it. Everyone around here seems to be following paths that lead them to new strengths... there has to be something out there for me, too."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 03:37:14 PM
"There's a path for everyone, the trick is finding it," Glitterosm says.

Go ahead and reply to that and a quick OOC check here: What precisely are you looking for here in a mechanical sense?
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 03:54:35 PM
Moore nods. "Yes, I have a knack for not seeing the forest for the trees when it comes to that sort of thing..."

Mechanically, a way to either increase the numerical amount of the bonuses / penalties of his Fatesinger powers, or some way to gain additional ones, at least for right now.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 28, 2016, 04:00:46 PM
Like a feat, a prestige class or what? Looking for something a little more precise.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 04:06:18 PM
Oh.  Epic progression for Fatesinger would be fine, if you wanted to go that angle. Alternatively, some sort of relic / artifact that helps with that sort of thing would also be fine. I don't have much else specific in mind.

Glitterosm studies you intently, "The numbers swirl around you. Seven most of all. You have been touched by someone holy, as you have said before.  Fortune and fate surround you like a cloak." All around you the diagram of the planes begins to swirl, spinning about. "There is also nine looming over you like an executioner's axe. I fear for your future. Yes, yes, I see. Six. Six. Six. Hunger stalks you. He stalks. Begone, demon," Glitterosm withdraws a shining disk of silver, holding it like a talisman to protect himself, close to his chest.

"Eight as well. The numbers around you are mixed. That is the key. Limbo is the key for you. Everything has a reason, a destiny. Your fate as an anarch is key."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 28, 2016, 11:52:35 PM
"That hunger problem should be gone soon. I intend to get everyone together to deal with it once our current matter is dealt with." Moore nods. "To your point about Limbo... I thought as much. I'm sure there's something there about combining 1 and 7 to get to 8. But that at least gives me something to go on. I wonder if Baleruk wants to go on another trip...  Hm. I wonder if it's Taelfagn... he probably realizes by now what I can do... either way, it's good to know." He nods again. "Thank you, Glitterosm. What do I owe you?"

"You got it." Moore says.

Baleruk is in his lair. He sits there regally, gazing as you as you enter. He says not a word, waiting on you for once.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 12:57:51 PM
"Would you be interested in going to Limbo in search of something to unlock some more potential for me?" Moore asks, simple as that.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 29, 2016, 01:59:29 PM
Baleruk leans down at you, eye so close as to completely fill your vision. In a voice that's a mere whisper, yet with enough force to batter you with a strong wind, "Limbo?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 02:00:52 PM
Moore nods. "Yes. I've been given reason to believe that my unique anarch abilities are a key to unlock something. You were instrumental the last time, so I thought it only natural to ask if you would like to go again."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 29, 2016, 02:03:56 PM
"Unlock what?" Baleruk challenges back. "Is it treasure?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 02:08:27 PM
"I don't know." Moore says. "Well, I think I do know -- I think it's a way for me to strengthen my ability to manipulate fate and chance. So in a sense, yes, it's treasure." He nods.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 29, 2016, 02:09:58 PM
"No gold, no jewels?" Baleruk stares at you balefully, "I demand TREASURE! My hoard must GROW!" Baleruk leans back and thumps a forearm down hard, gold coins flying everywhere. "Do you not see how important that is?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 02:12:54 PM
"Well, I can't promise that there -won't- be any treasure." Moore says with a reasonable rub of his chin. "I actually need to work on my own reserves of gold too, so maybe we can turn this into a two-for-one? We can look for treasure while we're there."

"Don't you know the place better than I do? Oh well, nothing like leaving it up to random chance." Moore says with a smile as he opens a Gate to Limbo.

He has absolutely no idea where exactly, so he's just going to picture the math formula '1+7 = 8' in his mind and see where that takes him. Hopefully somewhere with breathable air and not suddenly lava or something.

LAVA! LAVA EVERY-oh wait no, that's just red light. You stand amid empty air dotted with large rocks, you stand on one and Baleruk looms over all of it. You're surrounded on all sides by glowing red water. Strange frog-fish swim through those waters, fighting and eating one another.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 02:59:38 PM
"Hmm." Moore looks around. "Well, no sense in standing around." He shrugs and takes to the air, picking a direction that happens to have the least amount of water. He wouldn't want to get wet this early into the adventure.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 29, 2016, 03:02:17 PM
Baleruk glares at the waters and they part before you, so you don't get wet at all.

Any aim to your travels here?

You go on a ways, through wild nature and shapeless matter. Eventually you come on a single boulder floating in empty air, surrounded by ice in one direction and sand in the other. Here sits a single gray slaad, intensely watching you as you approach.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 03:27:31 PM
The last time he greeted any slaad it didn't go well, but maybe he's learned a thing or two since then... He raises a hand in greeting. "Greetings and salutations." He says, hoping that doesn't cause a horrible problem.

For whatever reason, the slaad points at both of you and screams. "Yellow mudworms!" he declares, "Run!"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 03:48:50 PM
"That always seems to happen..." Moore says with a look over at Baleruk.

Is it actually running?
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 29, 2016, 03:50:05 PM
The slaad's upper body breaks off and runs to the left and the slaad's lower body breaks away and runs to the right.

Baleruk watches with disinterest, "Coward," he  mutters, "YELLOW MUDWORNS WILL BOW TO ME LIKE ALL OTHERS!"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 04:12:22 PM
"What's a yellow mudworm?" Moore asks. "Oh well, no sense but to just go all in." Moore decides to check the boulder out, both for magic and anything else of any interest at all.

It's a boulder. There's no magic, but you do notice there's a seam down the middle, as of it were stitched together like clothing.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 04:19:59 PM
Moore blinks and flies over to the seam and gestures for Baleruk. "Do you think there's anything inside?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 29, 2016, 10:29:24 PM
Baleruk's answer is to tear open the seam with his claw.

<Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=50 ]{50}

Within is a brown liquid...is that gravy? It smells like gravy. Baleruk sniffs and then gets a bit on his claw, licking it off. "That bastard," Baleruk rumbles. "That cowardly cur! Abandoning this so freely! What manner of slaad abandons food?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 29, 2016, 10:35:48 PM
"They can never seem to take my greetings in stride." Moore says with a bit of a sigh. He does try the gravy, though.

It's a rich, beefy gravy. It's rather tasty despite a few flecks of something hard in it. Pebbles, perhaps?
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 30, 2016, 08:24:51 AM

You travel on a short time. You are soon lost in a thick forest, with a purple sun and white sky shining overhead. A forest of pine trees that grow strange, meaty fruits. As you walk through this - somehow Baleruk passes as well, despite being far too large for the paths - you hear feminine giggling ahead.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 30, 2016, 11:20:03 AM
No time like the present to investigate the giggling! Moore heads in that direction. It's surely not a fey... do slaad even giggle? -Can- they? ...-Should- they?
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 30, 2016, 02:09:40 PM
Ahead is a tree stump where a head sits. The head of a beautiful woman, crimson red hair and gorgeous green eyes. She giggles as you approach, "Good sir and good dragon," she greets, "I'm in a terrible pinch. The rest of my body voted to secede and joined another body. I'm stuck here, would you happen to have another body I could use?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Nephrite on November 30, 2016, 02:16:22 PM
Well, that's unique. And it isn't even a disguise or something that the mask can see through... how odd.

"Wouldn't it just be better to get yourself back together? Otherwise you might end up with another body sever." Moore says. "But what kind of body with you prefer?"
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 30, 2016, 02:19:18 PM
Baleruk marches on in, glaring at the woman, "Shameful. Crush the rebellion and make your body serve you! Are you a woman or a mouse?"

"No. My body has gone and rebelled, it will not return." She sighs deeply, dramatically, in spite of having no lungs. "Any body will do for now, I can trade up later."

Well, he is in Limbo... so why not do as the anarchs do and try and exert his will?

He casts a spell for some luck first (and probably gets a glare from his companion but so it goes) before he closes his eyes.

He takes a breath and tries to pull up from the ground his vision of a slim, feminine figure (but not too slim, that isn't healthy), basically a female-looking construct made of whatever materials happen to be in the ground, be it dirt or otherwise. He can make sure it stays together afterwards, but he may as well try this first.

This is surely some sort of weird trap, but when in Limbo...

The head is put on it...and nothing happens.

"Ah, no, this won't work," The head says, then looks to you, "Pixie, could you take your own head off and let me borrow you? I promise I'll return your body once I get one, it won't be long."

Baleruk leans in at that point, brushing you aside and snorting. "You will NOT attempt to have my thrall decapitate himself!"

"That's not very nice, you know!" Moore says as he strums his harp once, which emits a deafening shout at the head!

Greater Shout

Also if it does not get stunned he's going to cast Greater Mirror Image.

Under your sonic shout, the head vibrates and pops like a water bubble, not a speck of blood as it's gone.

Baleruk sniffs, "Low life trash."

Free act.

"Oh." Moore says with some amount of disappointment. "A slaad's creation that got abandoned, you think?" He'll check around for magic, but other than that continue on.

There's strong magic from the tree stump.

"Perhaps, or perhaps it is random. Who can know?" Baleruk rumbles.

The tree stump is magic. If removed and wielded as a weapon, it functions as a large greatclub+1, anarchic.

"Well that's interesting. Do you want a novelty tree stump magic weapon, Baleruk? If used as a weapon it has quite the anarchic sting." Moore asks.

You fly on through a desert drenched in rain, then find yourself in a building of ice and mud. It forms around you as you go, and ahead you see a table where four purple-bluish slaad sit. Each has three eyes and one is on each of other three. They are stone-still, unmoving in the slightest.

The first of the four turns to stare with all three frog-like eyes at you. "NUGATORY! IT'S ALL FUCKING NUGATORY!"

The second coughs into his hand, "I disagree. Have you noticed the dragon behind him?"

The third croaks and rests his head on his hand. "I disagree."

"Well, far be it from me to impede on anything... Am I disturbing something?" Moore asks. It can't really get any worse than this, can it? Of course it can, that's a silly question.
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)
Post by: Anastasia on November 30, 2016, 03:55:12 PM
"So do I," The fourth rumbles, steepling his hands together. "The dragon is meaningless. The dragon is nothing."

"LIES!" Baleruk roars, so loud that the wind of it knocks the slaad back and into a heap. "THIS IS MY DISSENT!"

The second manages to untangle himself and sit upright, "My point is made."

The third growls as he looks up from the pile, "How droll."
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)

Moore rubs his chin for a moment. "Perhaps it could be said that all of us are meaningless, in the grand scheme of Creation. However, I believe that all are to play their part, regardless of what one say from a casual observation."

Maybe he needs to doctor his speech up with a bit of anarchy if this doesn't have any kind of impact.

"ARGH!" They scream as one, "Pedantic sophistry!"

Then the first peers at you, "An anarch? How cute! Maybe there's something here after all. Why are you here, anarch and anarch dragon?"

"Well, if it's a debate you want, I'd be happy to make sure you understand my point." Moore says with a bit of a grin. However, he turns to the first. "My comrade and I are here in search of ways to unlock further potential for my abilities. Along with that, we're also in search of treasure, the type that would rival nobilities."

A long pause and then the slaad set up the table. Now it's a bit bigger and there's two more chairs, "Why don't you join us," The fourth says, "We have snacks." Chocolate covered steaks appear in the center of the table.

"As long as you agree to believe my comrade is something." Moore says as he goes to sit down. He's never had a chocolate steak before! Might as well try it, it can't possibly be any worse than Vul'lath's awful cheese...

Baleruk sits. Reality twists around him, somehow cramming all of him into a human sized seat. He doesn't even look uncomfortable as you try a steak. It's a rather loathsome combination, ick!

"We are trying to solve the puzzle," The second says, "Can you solve it?"

Alphabet clears his throat and speaks.

When a woman, another woman, a man, a turnip and a greataxe all love one another, the Weavic principal breaks down. When it breaks down, the commission of new officers is acceptable. The result of this makes me rather hungry, because the break down can be eaten. Did you know that? 7 is important because of that, but so is 8. You must purge the 9 from yourself.

There are several moments of absolute silence, Baleruk exhaling loudly enough to shatter the silence like glass under steel. "You fool," Baleruk says.

"You fool!" All ten slaad say. Ten!? Ten. There are now six more, who introduce themselves as follows, "4! 5! 6! 7! 8! 9!"

7 looks to 9, licking his lips. "Dinner!"

Unfortunately your powers do not reply. 7 leaps on 9, devouring him before your eyes. The other slaad watch with mild interest, Alphabet clearing his throat after.

That was a lovely meal break, but back on task. I see the crux of your problem now.

"Another," Two says, "You can be another. Is not another person waiting within, ready to put a new mask on for the world?"

Three hums and leans forward towards you. "You can be truth. Be something true, be something worthy."

"Or perish," Four chips in.

Five pauses, "I don't know about any of that, but I take away that you should be yourself and true to yourself, or things won't work out?"

Isn't that all entirely obvious?

"I'd like to think I'm being true to myself by understanding that my anarch powers are part of me." Moore says. "That's why I came to this chaotic sea. Perhaps you're saying I'm like an incomplete ring? But perhaps you're all saying I'm simply missing... something."

Not really sure to be honest. Ithea isn't around, so... I mean if Baleruk knows the slaad I guess we can try that angle, or anyone who had gone previously to meet with this dungeon-owner?
Title: Re: A pixie's number journey (Moore)

That'll work.

You find out a few have been with Ithea to visit the slaad's dungeons. One of these is Balyss. After a quick check in with a harried Elena you find out she's in her quarters and go knocking. After being let in, Balyss grabs a seat and listens. "Oh. That slaad." Balyss grimaces and sighs, "Those damn dungeons are death traps, even if they're loaded with treasure."

"That's the tough part. He sends Ithea invitations to his dungeon, but we never meet him face to face. We don't even know where in Limbo - assuming it's Limbo - he makes his dungeons." Balyss admits, "I can probably get you an invitation to use, see if that'll help. Ithea's been sitting on a few."

Look around for anyone who would be interested in going. OOC If you think this will run into the devil meeting then we can postpone it. Otherwise he'll look around, probably aiming for someone who can do some healing (although he's capable of doing that, so not a big deal) and someone who can SMASH. Or something similar. Moonlight's probably not a bad grab if she wanted to go.

EDIT: Actually, he'd also ask Finnegan, since they did just have a talk with each other. So Moonlight and Finnegan first.
