The bulk of Aurora's forces will be deployed here to take the city block by block, capturing and holding ground so as not to grow overextended or cut off while steadily linking up with the vanguard wherever they're found.
---
As the largest group, this group requires the most organization. Additionally, Jaela, Moore and Sylvie are on call in case the Duke of Destiny makes a play. In light of this, what sort of role are the three of you going to take in this? Are you going to have any other notable NPCs nearby or will they be busy directing the rest of the troops?
I'll be keeping up a Word of Creation'ed Inspire Courage for as long as I can to give our main forces a huge boost in fighting capability, unless I'm requested to conserve for some reason.
The force will be subdivided into three roughly equal parts, commanded by Adrian, Mirima and Cresiel each. I will assume overall command, but that will all change if I'm needed elsewhere.
Regarding our group, Mirajane is detached to us since the goldenfire bracers might come in handy, not to mention her precog ability.
Okay, one point of needed clarification: Where precisely are you going to be and are you using any voice amplification, Moore?
I'll stick with Adrian's group and as of currently no.
Cool. Okay Jaela, where will you be relative the three groups, since you're in overall command?
On the deck of my ship~
We'll arrange things so that I, Moore, Sylvie, Mirajane and four communications officers are held in telepathic link. Three of those will be with each force, and one with the Aurora defense force near Tepen.
Moore'll be with Adrian's group. Okay, in that case I think you two need separate topics. You're going into a new topic after this, Moore.
Also, who are the communications officers?
Below the battle of Elons Rapids begins. Ships hover as they come from Aurora, as from the great fortress you come. Jaela stands on the deck of her ship and watches her forces deploy. The sky above is dark and ominous, a strange half-light coming and no sign of the sun.
Mirajane and Sylvie stay close to you for the moment, with the latter saying, "Here we go," she murmurs. "Time to find out if we have a shot at saving Lifasa."
Just random dudes. I had Candy establish a communications group last major attack, if you'll recall, so let's say they're swift scouts she picked for the task.
"We always had a shot," Jaela muses. "But this is all about improving the odds, yeah."
'Jaela, one of Adrian's first elements have met a small party of devils. Combat has begun,' Tepen sends to you. 'Early reports are that civilians are avoiding things or participating on the side of the devils, depending.'
"This is about proving it," Mirajane says, "If we can win on Benfal, we can win on Lifasa.'
"Truth," Jaela agrees, signaling for the helmsman to gain some altitude and see more of the battlefield.
"We'll be deploying to where opposition is the stiffest, or upon request from one of our three force commanders," she says, mentally relaying her words through the four communications officers to Tepen, Adrian, Mirima and Cresiel. "Mirajane, if you can divine a target of opportunity, or Sylvie, if you can figure out where we can do the most damage to the enemy, you only need to speak up."
Sylvie nods, eyes half closed as she focuses.
"Mother," Mirajane says right away, "There's at least one thing here hidden from the future, if not more. Or at least hidden from my vision."
"Can you give us a rough direction, or this is more of a feeling?"
> roll 1d20+7
<Rei-chan> Sunshine_Ko rolled : 1d20+7 --> [ 1d20=1 ]{8}
"Below somewhere," she gestures, "In the city."
Jaela turns to study Mirajane in case she's messing with her, but then decides to nod. "Take us down, all the way to roof level," she instructs the helmsman. "Sylvie, keep an eye out for any opportunists who'd think this means we're a soft target."
Her own blindsight will take care of the short range, and perhaps being closer to the city would allow Mirajane to figure out an actual direction.
For reference, note your Spot modifier and any special perceptions like blindsight or true seeing. This may matter, it may not.
Blindsight 60ft, Spot +14, Listen +12.
Your ship descends to the sounds of war. Distant at the moment, but you can hear cries and the ring of steel on steel. Familiar things to you, as familiar as the flash of fireballs or the death cries of barbazu. At other moments the city is strangely quiet, the only sounds your forces on the ship.
You reach lower to the flash of a fireball washing against the side of the ship harmlessly.
"No immediate help," Mirajane says, "Whatever it is, it's hidden powerfully."
"Let's circle around our expanding battle lines," Jaela decides. It would give them a chance to see how each contingent is doing, get a more detailed picture of the individual skirmishes making up her area of responsibility and, perhaps, give Mirajane and Sylvie a chance to narrow down a preferred target.
Note: Make sure to check nagging, Surraruthru dropped a bunch of spells through the tapestry as prep before this. 24 hour spells in particular.
As you move the ship, Mirajane suddenly startles. "What in...!" she gasps, a hand to her mouth.
"What is it?"
"Something down there is strong," Mirajane says, "Terrifyingly powerful. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't have power over destiny. It's something else."
"Get us over," Jaela says cheerfully, casting Foresight and Sign. "Let's say hi!"
'Jaela, be advised: The skies may darken further and devils may rain down. If they do, hold position and defend, Sylica has a counter prepared,' Tepen sends to you.
"I'm not sure where," Mirajane says, "Just down there somewhere."
"Look alive! It's going to be raining devils! Perhaps literally!" Jaela voices for the benefit of her crew.
Then, changing tracks, she asks Sylvie, "Any ideas of how to become an even more tempting target? We're already a single ship obviously acting outside a rigid chain of command. Why aren't any strong or dumb devils biting?"
"My guess? Give it time," Sylvie goes to the railing and looks out over the city, "Or they're planning something. Never can be sure with devils." At that moment another fireball streaks up, hitting the underside of your ship. Not that it does anything to the ship forged in Fire."

Carry on, this wasn't anything aimed at y'all.
Jaela proudly forms the dawn-themed banner that she'd used on Astral for their army in the skies around her ship, deciding to bait the enemies over in any way she can while boosting the morale of her troops while her ships makes the rounds across the flashpoints.
I'll also cast Conviction.
As you set that up, you get a message from Tepen.
'Jaela, this message is going to all Aurora officers. Canderella is dead. An unknown force tore her apart, the assailant was not seen except for a rippling in the air described as stretching. If you see this, send word immediately and assume a defensive pose. It has means to defeat typical sensory abilities, due to the fact it penetrating our blocking force, killed her and escaped. More information will follow as we obtain it, it does not seem to be tied to the sky issue.'
Jaela's hands clench around the bow of the ship, starting to warp the metal before she lets go. 'Understood,' she sends Tepen, before asking Mirajane, "Your premonition? Any chance of figuring out where he'll head next?"
Sylvie's brow scrunches into a scowl.
It's then that Mirajane cuts her off, "You know who did it," she says, not a question at all.

"Yeah." Sylvie says, "Ever fought a dogai, better known as an assassin devil?"
"You think it's one of them? I guess that fits," Jaela muses, relaying to Tepen, 'Sylvie believes a dogai is responsible.'
"If we actually catch up to one," she continues, "I'd shut it down pretty fast. Leads, ideas, directions?"
If there are none, she'll just continue her tour of the battlefield with Mirima's detachment being the next in line.
"Not just a dogai," Sylvie says, "Remember Kaessa? I read the report that mentioned her and checked Aurora's lore. She's known as the Mistress of the Brachina and rules them. Gathgorian's not far removed from that, he might be the greatest cornugon in Hell." After a moment of looking down at the city, a fires burst and war begins to spread out over Elons Rapids, "The point is that there are naturally the greatest examples of a caste in Hell. There's even a legend that the greatest bezekira killed a tarrasque, though I think that one's bullshit."
A pause for Sylvie to brush back her hair, flowing in the wind. "There's...less than stories, but fragments and whispers. A killer so good that all the victims see is the faintest disturbance. Something that can't be seen. A dogai that mastered the assassin's shadow step until it became it. Maybe even a paragon of all dogai, I don't know. A killer devil that only the Lords of the Nine dare command. Myths and legends, even by planar standards, but several times the rippling and disturbance of space is mentioned."
'Sorry, she thinks THE dogai is responsible,' Jaela corrects herself. 'Some possible dogai paragon of bullshit assassination." This part she both sends and says out loud, "Again, do we know any weaknesses? How about ways of drawing it out or zeroing in on it?"
"Sorry, it's just old rumors and whispers," Sylvie says, "If it's right, we can expect a dogai's base arts raised to perfection. Are you familiar with how dogai work?" Sylvie asks back.
"Hiding beyond the point of invisibility, striking at the weak spots, teleportation, swift of feet. The basics."
"Right, you have the idea." Sylvie says, "I can't confirm it, but I get true seeing's no good, either."
"Really?" Mirajane asks, "A hunch?"
"Yeah, something like that," Sylvie says.
"I'll bet just about anything he can't take the same punishment I can," Jaela muses. "And my magic should put me in a position to retaliate. Speaking of magic, though, do either of you want to be made of stone for the near future? It'd probably be the best defensive counter against that sort."
"How long does it last?" Sylvie asks.
"Should be good for half an hour, though I could drop it earlier if we need to."
'Yeah. Better safe than sorry," Sylvie finally says.
"Please," Mirajane adds.
Jaela channels the spell into her gauntlet, and then lightly punches first Sylvie and Mirajane after her.

Okay, any other spells while you're tossing boosters around?
I think we're good right now, if nothing happens within 25 minutes I'll reconsider.
It's barely a minute before Sylvie calls, "Incoming!" She points down, "Three erinyes flying up, they look desperate but they're ahead of the air elementals. They look well equipped."
Jaela promptly Holy Smites them!

"Mother, do we fight this?" Mirajane asks.
Waiting on a reply there.
"We're taking him down!" Jaela snarls, barely bringing herself under enough control to command, "First, get him visible. Then, we need Death Ward to cover us from his shit. After, he dies!"

No reply from Tepen.
You dive down, above the war-torn city. Below you can see a few fires and many battles, but you hardly have time to look. The dogai is simply not there when you strike, already unseen again, in spite of Sylvie's spell.
As this happens, you hear the sound of a horn. It sounds horizon to horizon, as light explodes from the heavens. It's now high noon, a sun having risen from nowhere. The light allows no shadows, only pure radiance that touches everything.

He blocks it.
Your charge is blocked, a flicker of vision as a longsword is seen pressed against your spear. So you do the logical thing instead.
You kick him right in the groin. He flinches from the blow and you draw back, stabbing him again. It's a deep thrust into his stomach, the devil bloodied badly as he leaps back, tearing out part of his side as he's free, before he fades to invisibility again.
Mirajane merely sounds a call, clear and wonderful, that echos the trumpet that brought the sun.
Celestial valor.
What the assassin does you can't see, but you suddenly feel the dust still on you start to burn, your skin feeling gloopy, slimy.

You've heard of this once or twice, a rare thing as much rumor as fact. The Dust of Juiblex is said to have been created by the demon of the same name, a compound that ensures you will slowly melt into goo and die, no matter how long you resist. The longer it's on your body the harder it is to get off, as it clings to you. If you're quick, universal solvent will allow it to be washed off. Otherwise a wish or miracle is required, and one that requires extremely strong magic.
Despite the name it's not tied to chaos, you dimly recall that the 'loths are known to make it as well, according to legend.
"Sylvie, got any universal solvent? I need to clear this shitty dust from me," Jaela calls out, waiting for their enemy to be revealed.

Robes take the place of Jaela's armor, as she casts True Seeing!
Move and swift used, standard action remaining to be resolved after this.
What's the range on your true seeing? 120ft I believe, but I need to confirm.
120ft
No sign of him within 120ft. No further attack comes, either.
Free act for the moment. If he's around, he's more than keeping his distance.
Jaela flies out in an ever-expanding spiral to try and spot this sneaky devil!
Using the remaining standard to move, my speed is 120ft
How far would you cover total, going in a spiral like that from your starting point?
Yeah I'm not calculating the expanding spiral. But if we take a circle with 120ft circumference it'd have a radius of ~19ft. So let's say that's how much I look into every direction while sticking to 2d?
Cool.
You look around. No sign of him-
A massive crash of thunder stuns you, then another immediately after. It comes from above, your ears ringing from it. The hell was that?
Jaela briefly looks up, even as she continues her search!
Two titanic men stand far above in the sky, ignoring gravity. They wear light togas and nothing else. You can't see much in the way of features from here, but you can see one point up and the other nod. They fly up in the direction of the sun right after that.
Sylvie does the same, "Shit," she mutters, "They're going after Sylica's sun gambit?"
As you look up, you get a message from Tepen. 'Jaela,' Tepen says, 'Sylica has sent a request for help. The sun up there is not the sun, but an angel with power over the sun. Her name is Latha and she is nearly defenseless shining light on all of Benfal. They request a squad to go up and drive off or slay Semyaza's spawn.'
"I... guess," Jaela muses, not looking too closely up those togas. 'Tepen, what the fuck? Never mind, I got this, give me a few moments.'
She pauses for the barest of moments, clenching a hand around her holy symbol while asking the Triune for help in turning the dogai visible!
Swift for Miracle, will act after.
You don't see the dogai. Either he was able to resist it or he simply isn't in your field of view.
"Mirajane, Sylvie, to me!" Jaela commands, dropping her ongoing teleporation ban with a grimace before trying to teleport the three of them a hundred feet above the rising giants.
