Okay, next move now that Calleigh ran out of Bubbles' room?
Calleigh has been distracted by succubus, and wants a friend for Canderella. She is currently making a bee-line for the gates, and Tryll is attempting to keep pace.
No one particularly bothers to interrupt you. You reach Aurora's gates without incident.
Calleigh searches about for a succubus!
No sign of a succubus around here, just soldiers going about. Several are bringing supplies into Aurora, waving you out of the way as they work.
Calleigh gives a might frowny face! "Fine, we'll go back." she grumbles.
As you turn to go, you notice a portal open nearby Aurora's gate.
On Lucy's end of it, she sees Aurora rise in front of her, all the soldiers working to move supply and everything going along. Adrian gestures, "This is it." He smiles a bit, "Makes an impression, doesn't it?"
"Very much so, General," Lucy agrees, taking the sight in. "My, and the space seems all wrong inside. One of the layers of defense, I presume?"
"Succubus?" Calleigh asks herself, peering at the gates.
Feel free to give a quick description or copy paste the one from the last thread, Lucy. Relevant here.
Lucy is dressed in a long, flowing skirt and a long-sleeved shirt in pastel colors, a darker vest over it. A sack with a variety of knickknacks is slung over her shoulder, a greatsword's pommel peeking out of it unceremoniously. Her hair is a mild pink going down to the small of her back, while her bright green eyes try to take everything in without looking like a country bumpkin.
Those with true seeing can also see Lucy's wings, peeking through carefully-placed holes in the back of her vest, her manicured, curved horns and a tail with a heart-shaped tip adorned with a butterfly bow!
Calleigh zips over to the gate and up to Adrian, "Adrian Adrian AdrianAdrian! Elena said you were bringing a new friend who is your friend?!"
"Her name's Lucy," Adrian says with a nod in her direction.
"Hi, Lucy! I'm Calleigh! Welcome to the Aurora! Or is it just Aurora? Uhhhm,"
"Hello, Calleigh!" Lucy responds brightly. "It's good to be here!"
"Yay! Are you the succubus that's supposed to be coming? I like your hair!"
"I'm the wizard that's supposed to be coming!" Lucy responds, putting an emphasis on 'wizard'. "And thanks! It sometimes has a mind of its own!"
"Eh. Wizard, succubus, same difference. You're joining up?"
"So I am! What do you do around here?"
"Moral support, explosions, and brain surgery!" Calleigh replies.
"How about spell research and studies of the arcane?" Lucy asks curiously. "Who works on that? Sage Vul'lath, obviously, his reputation precedes him, and he must have his students, but is there anyone assisting him at this point?"
"Yep! There's also Tepen, Sylvie, the giant walking turtle-man, Baleruk, Tryll, the Jarl, and a few others!"
"I would be very happy to meet them, if you won't mind showing me around?" Lucy asks politely, glancing at Adrian as she speaks to make sure he doesn't have different plans in store for her.
"Go ahead," Adrian says, "Calleigh, why don't you show her around?" He makes a shooing gesture, "Tryll might be interesting for you to talk with."
"Okie-dokie!" Calleigh grins, "Come on, I'll take you to the library! Lots of brainy people hang out there!"
Adrian nods and goes off in the meantime.
Assuming Lucy agrees, I'll move you to the library after the next post.
Excellent!
Woaaaaaah.
It's a big library. A biiiiiiiiiiig one. Lots of books. Lots of tall shelves. Surely lots of magic. That's what Lucy can immediately take away.
Calleigh doesn't immediately see Vul'lath or Tepen around, nor Sylvie.
"The library has a lot of books, and is super helpful when you want to take a nap! Or research stuff, I guess." Calleigh chatters at full volume, to the dismay of others, "Usually you'll find one of the big name brainy folk here, though none of them are here right now. I suppose things are getting a bit heavy, so reading for fun isn't an option."
"Shhh!"
Elena appears dressed like Sage Vul'lath, scowling. "No talking in the library!"
"Not even a little? Also that's adorable! Elena! Meet Lucy!" Calleigh is not any quieter, "She's a wizard! And she's new! And her hair is PINK!"
"Shhh!" Elena waggles a finger in Calleigh's face. Keeping her voice down, "The others are working with Surraruthru on his tree project."
Lucy curtsies, beaming at the blue girl! "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Elena!" she greets her, matching the quiet tone without losing any of the perkiness. "Are you the librarian? I believe we shall be ever so good friends!"
"I oversee all of Aurora, I'm just filling in since they're busy," Elena says, "That's Calleigh and Tryll's with her. Tryll's a sight, but don't be scared if you see him, he's nice."
"Gah! Eleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Calleigh whines, "Why you gotta ruin the fun?"
"That's quite alright," Lucy assures Elena. "You're overworked and there's no one filling the position? In that case I would be delighted to offer my services!"
Not missing a beat, she looks over at Calleigh at her outburst. "Mmm, but since the cat is out of the bag, Calleigh, why don't you introduce us?"
"Calleigh points up with a grin, where an eye the size of a dinner plate phases into view. In her mind,m Lucy hears, 'Hello. I am Tryll. A pleasure to meet you, Lucy.'
"People who are loud in the library get no mercy!" Elena declares softly, before adding, "If you want that sort of position, hang around the library a lot and work your way into it. We're not going to offer someone brand new a serious position until they prove themselves. Vul'lath and Sylvie should be back soon."
That sounds a bit strange, but if Lucy looks at it like an apprenticeship she can make it work. "I cannot wait, Miss Elena!" she says excitedly, if suitably quietly.
Mentally, she sends a smile to Tryll, responding. 'A pleasure as well, Tryll. If that's not too forward of me, might I ask about your area of expertise in the fields of magical theory?'
'I am skilled in the use of psionics. In essence, a mage of the mind. Though I am also skilled in large explosions, much to Calleigh's delight. In terms of theory, I'm a bit general really. Much of my studies have been introspective.'
'That makes quite a deal of sense,' Lucy agrees. 'I'm striving towards forming a unified theory of magic, myself.'
"You two have fun," Elena says, vanishing after.
Go ahead and chat a little more as incoming things finish being incoming.
'A unified theory of magic? Please, explain what you mean.'
'Oh, certainly!' Lucy claims a chair and smooths out her skirt before sitting down. 'It is my attempt to prove that all magic is interchangeable, and there is only the matter of finding the many and varied ways of doing so and cataloging them as the preliminary stage to drawing larger conclusions. We already see this from many different directions, be it the versatility of spells of Wish's caliber that allow for the perfect replication of less powerful magic or in the affect standardized metamagic has on your spells. These methods allow for the crossing of what might seem quite rigid lines in magic, the borders between circles, between mortal and ascendant magic, even between so-called divine and arcane magic.'
She grows more and more animated as she speaks in Tryll's mind, gesturing as she gets into the explanation. 'Why do we divide magic into these seemingly different classifications? Because it is easier for us, because as a gross oversimplification this lowest denominator caters to those who only seek to grasp the basics of one routine. Yet, as we keep on pushing the envelop we suddenly learn that even one called a sorcerer by their peers would be able to use a spellbook, or a paladin would value common sense above the impulsiveness of their force of personality!'
Lucy's left arm gets briefly entangled in her hair and she spends a few moments extricating it. By then, the passion has mostly run out but she's smiling all the same as she concludes with, 'I want to give everyone more choices, because magic is wonderful!'
As Lucy talks, Sage Vul'lath and Sylvie enter through the portal, glancing at the three of you as they pass.
"Have you ever wondered why spells fall out of your head after you use them? I mean, wizards have to study their spells and stuff every day because they forget them as soon as they use them. How come it's gotta be that way? I mean, everybody seems to accept it as normal, but why?" Calleigh asks, giving Vul'lath the cheesiest grin possible as the group passes. "Also, there's Vul'lath and Sylvie now!"
"Exactly!" Lucy agrees. "If it were perfectly normal, then why are there magical means for restoring these so-called 'lost' spells in the first place?"
And at that introduction she smoothly rises to her feet, checking her clothing for wrinkles and brushing it for non-existing dirt. "It is such a great honor to meet you, Sage Vul'lath," she gushes, beaming at him. It's still not enough to make her forget her manners, and she continues, "And Miss Sylvie, of course. My name is Lucy, and I'm hoping to study magic here and help take care of this magnificent repository of knowledge!"
Vul'lath stops, turns to you and faintly smiles. "Ah, a fellow student of knowledge?" he offers his hand to you. "You have excellent taste."
Sylvie smiles slightly, "Our reputation precedes us?"
Lucy's hair forms a hand that eagerly reaches to shake Vul'lath's. Her smile grows a bit strained, but she nevertheless says, "Oh yes, Miss Sylvie. I just know I'll get much closer to a proper understanding of magic surrounded by such august personages!"
Sylvie's smile grows just a bit, "I have some free time. Why don't we go study and get to know each other?"
Sage Vul'lath's hand shake is light enough, not crushing your hand or anything. He's certainly not a warrior with that grip. "What aspects of study to you specialize in?"
"Like I was telling Tryll and Calleigh, here, my overall thesis, you might call it, is the unified theory of magic, although try as I might to keep to a generalist bend I do have modest talent in a few fields," Lucy is all too happy to explain once more, before Sylvie's offer gets her to tilt her head.
"Why certainly, Miss Sylvie," she responds. "Is it a large study group?"
Calleigh is silently enraptured by Lucy's animated hair.
"Then let's go," Sylvie flashes you a smile. "Where are you from?"
Are you going to tag along, Calleigh?
Calleigh shakes her head, "Whoa, I'm getting distracted! We've got stuff to do! Are you good to go with Vul'lath and Sylvie?"
"No worries!" Lucy responds. "It was nice meeting you, Calleigh and Tryll!"
In that case I'm moving you to a new thread, Lucy. Tryll will continue on in here.
Tryll, next move?
Let's examine our plans again.
Right now, we're looking into finding additional components for the familiar ritual.
-Timelessness
-Water
-Chaos
-Humor
-Color
Timelessness we've got.
Water is our current conundrum.
Chaos can be extracted from Limbo, likely without too much trouble. We have anarchs.
Humor is ???
Color is an essence we can obtain from Renbuu. We owe him a visit anyway from way back when we first picked up Hamogan.
I'd like to put Water off for a bit, I need to decide if risking dealing with Calleigh's interactions with the Padisha is worth the reward, or if there is another source we can tap.
I'd like to look into the work in Limbo right now.
However, I believe that Iddy is interested in getting my help with something, so I think hanging out a bit would be prudent.
Surraruthru needs a psychic brain surgery done on a Faerie Dragon pup that's mute. Surraruthru, the pup, and the mother are all currently in Aurora.
I'd be happy to help. Ko, how do you want to do this?
This is complicated enough to spill into tomorrow. Is there anything you needed to today before that, Tryll?
Nothing pressing off the top of my head.
Okay, you are briefly paused then.
