Okay, make an K:P check to start.
Take 10 for 76.
"The good news," Tepen says, "Is that Smoke's miasma can be stopped in a variety of ways. Various spells to make air bubbles are effective, as is a planar tolerance spell or the like. Not needing to breath is effective against stopping almost all of it, and immunity to toxins is also helpful, as well as immunity to disease. Working along those axes will help you endure Smoke and recruit a proper party for it."
You sit with Tepen in the library after the two of you do your homework on Smoke, a relatively simple task with what you have on hand. He summarizes what you already know, then sits back with his hands resting on his stomach. "Also though while unsaid, magical means of cleansing your scent afterwards are advised, as otherwise you'll smell like a chimney for a month afterwards."
"I'm sure I can figure something out. If Prestidigitation won't cover it, I'll just have to Wish for something." Moore says with a grin. "Hm, I know I got the idea for my necklace from Finnegan, so he's a good candidate."
He snaps his fingers. "Of course, Prince Westwind would probably want to go. I think that'd be perfect." Moore nods again. "Worst case, I can cast planar tolerance as needed. Thank you again, Tepen. I know you have to coordinate things here, but one of these days I want to see you in action."
"This is my battlefield, Moore," Tepen waves a hand, gesturing at the library. "Not all warriors face the enemy directly."
"You know what I mean." Moore counters. "I bet you can turn into a dragon or something. Actually, I think we're almost done with that modification to Aurora proper that lets you cast spells through it or something, right? That'll come in handy."
"I can," Tepen cracks a smile, "It's a ninth circle spell."
"I knew it." Moore says with an all-knowing nod.
"All right, well let me go round up some people. I'll let you know when we're leaving and we'll do that weird interplanar telepathy thing that everyone seems so fond of." Moore says with a laugh, followed by a bow as he flies off.
He's going to look for Prince Westwind first and see if he'd like to go punch some devils and also if see if he's at all familiar with that Choking Path they need to go on.
Prince Westwind flies near the top of Aurora, hovering about and practicing with his scythe. He stops when you approach, "The Choking Path," he strokes his chin and smiles, "Yes, yes, I know that wretched path of villainy and greed."
Moore nods. "Great. We're looking for a place that apparently lies somewhere on it, I think the devils took it over. I made an assumption, but to clarify it before we go, do you have some resistances to the toxins and miasma there? It's not a big deal if you don't, it's just for my own knowledge in case we get hit with something that subdues magic."
"I am a Prince of Air," Westwind says, "No mere smoke will harm me, not from an elemental plane tied to Air."
"I was expecting as much." Moore agrees. "Would you care to spend your day squashing some devils?"
"You need only say the word!" Westwind laughs, "Let us go squash enough devils to give the Lord of the Ninth pause!"
Moore nods with a grin. "Let me grab one more person and we'll be good to go. Though... I should probably check something just in case..." Moore nods to himself. "Hey Elena, can you let Balyss know I'd like some of her time please?"
Elena pops in briefly, "Yes, she'll be ready when you are."
"Thank you. I'll meet her in the cafeteria." Moore says with a nod to Prince Westwind. "I'll come get you when we're ready."
Off to the cafeteria!
You find Balyss there, eating breakfast quickly. It's a simple egg and chicken dish, being devoured in good speed. "Moore," she says, "How can I aid you?"
"Sorry to ask you on short notice." Moore says first. "I'm sure you're being worked hard over all this. I have a missive from on high to go to Smoke and find Sarem Dizal. I know I need to follow the Choking Path, but do you have any further insight by any chance?"
"Danger awaits you there," Balyss says in a voice that is not quite her own, putting her fork down. "Breathe carefully."
"Hm, maybe I should invite one more person then." Moore taps his nose a few times. "Yeah, just in case. Thank you Balyss. Does your intuition tell you that we probably won't have too much trouble locating the place?"
"It doesn't say," Balyss speaks normally again, "I think you're on your own for that part."
"We'll manage." Moore says with a grin. "Thanks Balyss. If you need anything from me let me know, okay?"
He's off to find Finnegan!
Finnegan's found in his room, just coming out for the day. "You need me? I could use a fight," Finnegan says.
"I actually thought of you after our last trip. It's to Smoke." Moore explains. "I remember your amulet -- thanks for the idea, by the way -- prevents you from needing to breathe their air, so I figured you'd be a perfect candidate for some devil smashing. Uh, hopefully this time there won't be any Outer Sphere horrors there."
"Yeah, I'm in," Finnegan says, "It would be a good warm up for what's to come. Where and when?"
"I'm going to get one more person and then we'll be good to go, so let's say 15 minutes and we'll meet at the gate and take it to Smoke." Moore answers.
Intention is to grab Jetina also. I can play her so you don't have to.
You find Jetina in her room, deep in prayer. She doesn't rise when you enter, but does say, "Moore. Is it strange that I feel drawn to pray, even though I can remember naught but the recent past days?"
"Not at all." Moore answers. "It comes back to you in bursts sometimes. You have to focus on your faith to help center your soul."
"Raziel guide me..." Jetina murmurs, then stands up. "My legs are asleep now, anyway," she says, grimacing. "I need a break."
"I wanted to invite you to a devil extermination operation I've been tasked with. We could use some healing and devil-busting support." Moore explains. "It's to the plane of Smoke."
"Smoke? An entire plane of smoke and fires?" Jetina asks, "What sort of place is it?"
"Uh... smoke-y. I know that doesn't help, but it's literally filled with beings of air and fire. It probably smells awful too." Moore answers. "It's on the edge of the plane of Fire and Air, so it combines both. I mean, there might be pleasant places there, but... I really doubt it."
"Then you'll need Raziel's blessings," Jetina says, "I'll come with you so no one stays hurt."
Moore nods. "Great. Do you need any preparations?"
"I'm ready," Jetina says, "I feel like we've done something like this before, though."
"I'm sure we have." Moore answers with a grin.
Everyone gets the heroes feast for the temp HP and immunity to poison and yadda yadda, Moore will cast the following spells:
Planar Tolerance (CL16) for Smoke
Mass Conviction (CL16), +4 morale to saves, 160m
For himself only:
Greater Improvisation (CL27), 270m
Divine Insight (CL18), 180m
Do you want any of them to cast anything?
I will have to familiarize myself with what Jetina can do. I don't think Westwind needs to use any of his wishes right now.
If you have any suggestions feel free to voice them.
Let me know when you're good then.
I don't see anything that she can cast that may not expire. We can save the Energy Immunity for when we're closer or something. So it looks like nothing.
We're good to go.
Edit to mention I am adding Tyche's Touch to all parties, this is 4 castings.
Also I forgot the mission readiness arch has Planar Tolerance already, so Moore doesn't need to cast it at all.
Okay, go ahead and do your spoiler block and one for Jetina.

He's going to aim for the "center" of it as best as he can, basically halfway through. Not that any one point of it is going to be much noticeably different from any other point.
Smoke.
As you expect, the air is foul with smoke, held back and purified by your necklace. You stand on a rocky road that stretches farther than you can see in either direction. The air is thick with foulness, everything foggy and smoke-misty ahead, making visibility extremely poor.
Thankfully, this is why his glasses have true seeing cast on them. He looks around and decides to try something -- magic!
Find the Path is being used to hopefully lead to Sarem Dizal. They may have it teleport-blocked but do they have it completely warded!?
No such luck - the spell simply fails.
Moore nods. Figures. In that case they'll just have to do as he was instructed -- follow the path. But if they're in the center... hmm...
He'll just have to start in a direction and see what happens. He picks a random one and starts to fly along.
No real options here except to look around. Hopefully True Seeing will uncover something along the way.
Along the path, to be clear?
Yes.
> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 31 > [d100=31]
The four of you begin to wander.
Finnegan takes point, leading on with spear out and gaze sweeping. "We're asking to be ambushed like this," he says, "Our visibility's too compromised."
Jetina nods to herself and then speaks aloud, "I think you're right, the natives will know how to deal with it better than we can. So long as we can take the initial ambush, I can fix everything back to how it should be."
"Yeah, but I'll give myself a penny to avoid being hurt rather than pay a gold piece to a healer to fix them," Finnegan says, "Accepting injury and ambush is an accursed strategy."
Prince Westwind laughs, "If anything is so foolish to attack us while I am here, they will not long regret the mistake."
"I know what you mean, Finnegan." Moore says. "But Prince Westwind is right -- if anything even tries to attack us, they're going to regret it. Besides, if they do, then we know we're on the right track to find the devil hideaway."
"Yes, we can't do much about Smoke's nature," Westwind soars on, bringing up the rear and keeping half a watch behind the party. "So let us accept is and focus on what we can do instead."
"Still, I'm glad I'm here, since no amount of pennies has ever saved someone from getting hurt in battle," Jetina snaps off, "Otherwise the rich would never bleed."
"Yeah, but the rich usually end up bleeding because they have too many pennies," Finnegan banters back. "Funny how that works out."
"You're all here because you need to be." Moore agrees.
"...Actually, hold on a moment. That gives me an idea." He looks around and then looks down. "Allow me a moment."
Moore closes his eyes and draws on the history -- the events that happened here. Maybe, just maybe...
He's using his Permanent Emanation of Hindsight to go 29 Weeks. He's hoping that in that time A Devil or two may have passed through the same area they're in now. According to the spell: Exact wording and details are lost, but you know all the participants and the highlights of the conversations and events that took place.
Roll and post 1d100, Moore.
[14:33] <Nephrite> roll 1d100
[14:33] <Serith> Nephrite roll for Serith < 41 > [d100=41]
Images. So many creatures - mostly natives of smoke, smoke para elementals and the like. Travelers of all races. A few who chose this spot as a camping sight. But there. You see one useful point - a single barbed devil traveling with several barbazu, pausing briefly here before going in the opposite direction.
"Aha." Moore says as he pulls himself out of his trance. "We're going the wrong way."
He turns around around to travel back in the opposite direction!
I'd say we'll travel about half an hour before he'll try again unless they happen to run across some devils by chance.
Thus the party turns around.
"Really? How'd you tell?" Jetina asks, "Some sort of magic?"
"Yes. I'll explain the finer details of the spell when we get back." Moore says with a grin.
Cool. What's your general marching order going to be?
Moore's confident that Finnegan can take point, so how about Finnegan leading, Moore behind him with Westwind and Jetina on the flanks.
Sounds good.
The four of you wander perhaps an hour down this path, encountering no one. Only howls of befouled, gusting wind give you any company at all. Amid this Westwind speaks up, "Intersections and branch offs are fairly common, we'll come on one soon."
"Hope so," Finnegan says, keeping his spear out. "This place is accursed."
"Ah, everything has a good side to it. I'll... uh... let you know once I figure out the one that exists in this place." Moore says with a clear of his throat. "Let's continue to the intersection and I'll see if I can get a bearing on anything."
"Foul air is still better than Earth," Westwind says, "It still moves! It still has life! It's not dead, stupid stone."
"Moving it may be, much to my regret," Jetina sighs, "It reminds me of...." A trail off, "Oh, Raziel take it!" She sighs.
Listen.

As you walk, you here a swishing from the smoke to your right, like the air moving and swirling around.
"Is that normal?" Moore asks with a glance to the right. "I'm guessing it isn't."
Westwind looks and chuckles, "A challenge!" he declares, as the party turns. You can see it hazily about 50ft ahead - a man sized tornado of smoke, advancing on you slowly. It swirls and whirls, as...
K:P is relevant.
Take 10 for 61, Jetina will pass.
It's a smoke para elemental. A rather minor one based on the size. Not a terrible threat, though they have slams, a whirlwind and powerful toxic gases.
Before I waste the energy on a diplo check, would that check also tell me if Smoke tends to lean towards supporting the devils and their schemes? Or would it be a situation where some might be good aligned and some not?
Smoke has no strong elemental alignment, though individual elementals can vary.
"I hope you come to us in peace." Moore says in Auran. Or, if he'd know a specific language for Smoke (he speaks all of them) he would use it here.
"Know that we are of Aurora and come here to do no harm to the natives." He says, holding his arms out. "We have come to find Sarem Dizal and remove the devils from it permanently. If you can aid us and show us where it is, we would appreciate it."
Diplo check, +10 penalty due to circumstances.
Take 10 for 74, using some of my improvisation points.
The creature stops its advance.
Prince Westwind nods, "Wise choice, wise choice." He's using Auran, speaking with a jaunty grin. "Answer the not-windy one now."
"Toll." The elemental says a single, gusty word. "Pay."
Finnegan chuckles, "Oh, you're in for it now."
Moore shakes his head. "Not the correct answer, friend." Moore continues in Auran. "If you continue on your way we'll be willing to forget this happened."
"Yes," Westwind adds, drawing his scythe. "Flee or Moore will do something unspeakable, my friend. Unspeakable! Show him, Moore!"
Moore looks over at Westwind with a bit of a perplexed face before he snaps his fingers and suddenly, Lord Crystalle himself is there!
Permanent Image SLA to create a large likeness of Crystalle
"WHO WOULD DARE ATTACK MY ALLY?!" The image of Crystalle bellows!
Intimidate, +7 bonus.

The elemental turns and flies off into the smoke, rather rapidly no less.
Finnegan chuckles, "Good work. Let's move in case it brings back its friends."
"It should know now," Jetina says quietly, "A heart touched by cowardice rarely finds courage afterwards."
Moore dismisses the major image and will continue on!
Another twenty minutes or so of walking leads you to a little branch-off path to the right, plunging down into the miasma. It's barely a footpath, wide enough to go single file and no more.
"A moment again, please."
He takes a breath and delves into what he can witness of the past again, borrowing on Erathaol's power.
Hindsight again, this time trying for the last 29 days: You sense the events of the past, stretching back one day per caster level. You gain detailed knowledge of the people, conversations, and events that transpired.
Anything in particular?
He's searching for devils!
Got them. They pass right on by the road, silent and marching on, staying on the main path.
"Yep, they came this way." Moore announces. "Let's continue on another half hour."
Man, this spell is really handy, he thinks!

Is Jetina going to add anything in?
For now, no.
Portals.
Portals open all around the party, a dozen of them if one. Each is a screaming, writhing thing of hellfire and faces, spreading apart as hot air buffets all of you. From them they come, surrounding you. Nessian Pit Fiends, a foe the part knows well.
"THERE IS NO ESCAPE!"
"HELL AWAITS YOU!"
"YOUR SOULS SHALL BE TRIBUTE!"
Jetina gasps, "Be brave!" She steps back, readying her sword and shield.
"Triune," Finnegan murmurs, eyes wide.

He's using an immediate action to activate his Regalia to increase the bonus of Inspire Courage by 2.

Regalia of the Hero bonus to give Prince Westwind a move action to be taken now so he can position himself to smear them into paste.
En totale, the bonuses to attack are: +18 (16+2 from the item) Morale, +4 untyped, +2 more untyped from his harp for a total of +24 to attack.

Since Moore made the save he took no damage from it.
I don't think Jetina has any energy reductions (It seems like she should? I dunno)
This leaves her with 251/353(+78 from the extra con)
Inferno. Blizzard. Screams. Thunderbolt. Melting. The elements are a fury around Moore, yet he dodges. Lost in his song, untouched by any.
After the great blast clears, the miasma is momentarily burnt away. The Nessians are all around, more portals opening farther away, as those that come through position and chant, thin beams flying at all the party.

It hits both of them.
I assume Spellcrafting to identify it, adn the DC's automatic for you all. It's a dimensional anchor effect on all four of you.
Go Moore, you're up.
'Tepen, we need support. Now. Devils.' Moore sends to Tepen!
I have two questions: One, can I expect that Tepen would be able to reply on my turn and two, I realize dimensional anchor blocks travel by Gate, but does it stop me from just opening a gate so people on the other side could come through?
It would not stop that, no. It merely stops you from going through one.
Tepen could, it'll depend what he's doing at that instant. It may take him a little longer.
Any other questions?
Nope. I will just take the actions now and resolve on my next turn.
They'll be fine -- he has a plan, after all. He casts a quick spell for himself, while continuing to bolster his allies! "DON'T GIVE UP!"
Casting Sonorous Hum -- next spell that requires concentration to maintain is done so automatically.

Doing Jetina in the next post.
Raziel won't let them lose! Jetina calls out as light shines and restores everyone.
Mass Heal, this tops off everyone, and gives them fast healing 10. No one is afflicted with anything panacea can heal so that's no biggie.
"No!" A nessian snarls, as magic slams into Jetina's spell.

Use emergency healing to try again.
Note down the use.
The second time gets through, healing passing through your party and soothing your wounds. This brings relief and soothing to the wounded, as Finnegan snaps, "We need a better plan!" He rears back and charges another Nessian, extending his spear out as far as it can go as...

Finnegan leaps up and impales the devil through the throat, ripping it out as lava-blood gushes all about. The great fiend is staggered by this, but even as he chokes on his own blood, is hardly stopped. You can hear Tepen's voice, but far away and faintly, as meanwhile Jetina's power fails to budge the dimensional anchors in the slightest.
Then he'll have to use something stronger --
He wants to use Wish to try and suppress the dimensional anchor effect or just use its transport function though I imagine that is blocked by the dimensional anchor.
Okay, quick question. The only thing I could think of that would suppress DM is an antimagic field. Can you think of anything else? It's your spell so if you have something in mind, say so.
I didn't have anything specific in mind, I was hoping to just kind of use it in place of a counter spell or dispel magic. I know the reroll option is out or else I'd use it to try and give Jetina another shot at her dispel.
Antimagic Field wouldn't work because then we're still just stuck there.
I suppose he could just try and use it as a greater dispel magic with a higher modifier or something?
Go ahead and grab the best dispel your spell can manage and use that, then.
I think that's still Greater Dispel Magic then, since Superb is beyond that and Disjunction is 9. I will just roll Greater and not use Wish.

Chance to reply to him if it matters before the Nessians go.
'Try and get some distance if you can!' Moore sends him.
Then is all the devils before you, looming over you as they trip to rip you to shreds!

Standard action to Activate Boots of Temporal Acceleration.
Immediate action used to refresh Greater Mirror Image, so he's back to 8.
Move action used on Inspire Heroics for himself. This will bump his AC up to 74.
Time Stop Action 1 (Standard): Cast Gate 100 feet behind them using Vul'lath's Relief. This is CL17 if it matters. Sonorous Hum is used to maintain the Gate. The Gate is intended to open as close to Aurora as possible. He's hoping someone will notice it.
Action 1 (Movement): If he can find any way to get out of the circle he's in, he's going to try and go that way. I am presuming he cannot.
Time Stop Action 2: (Standard) Cast Snowsong. All devils and other shitty evil things within 30 yards are targeted as enemies. DC28 Will to ignore the effects of Snowsong (guessing they can do that.) Moore, Jetina, Westwind and Finnegan gain +4 morale to Charisma and +4 insight to AC, they gain fast healing 1 (doesn't matter with Jetina's FH10), Resist to cold 15 and all attacks do an extra 1d6 cold.
Action 2 (Movement): If he was able to get out, he will try and move around the circle to get near Finnegan and Westwind, otherwise again he will just stay in the thunderdome with Jetina.

Hopefully it's obvious enough what direction to retreat in.
She follows that up by dropping an ashen avalanche, the prismatic wall above their allies heads protecting them from it while any devils above said wall will get crushed through all its layers, and the ones on the perimeter will just get dropped.

Okay, so if you're at the bottom of the passage you're making, with a prismatic wall sealing off your rear, correct?
No, it seals off Moore's rear.
This is a top down view for example. But it also works as a side on view too. There's basically a long prismatic tunnel bordered on all four sides stretching from Afina to Moore's group, with the far end (relative to Afina) blocked off so that Moore and co would only have one direction they could travel in (towards Afina and potential safety) without having to brave the prismatic walls.

Okay.
As Jetina casts, you are suddenly surrounded by rainbows. Bright prismatic walls spring into being on both sides, barely glimpsed with the Nessians on you. Oddly, the Nessians do not look to you or them, but instead in the direction of them, into the smoke. They all do it at precisely the same time, moving in perfect tandem.
Init is Moore (48) > Jetina = Afina (37) > Finnegan (36) > Westwind (32) > Nessians (22) > Jaela (20)
Meanwhile you can hear great winds let loose, a tornado gathering in and blowing away smoke that you can only glimpse in the rainbow colored chaos. In it you see Finnegan and two Nessians, Finnegan defending himself as the three are carried about in the tornado.
Finnegan is going total defense in the circumstances for more AC. Nessians are up.
"YOUR SOULS ARE FORFEIT!" The nearest Nessian to Afina and Jaela whirls, as suddenly you have attention from them. Waves of absolute darkness assault you from all directions, over and over again.

Afina is a miss. Jaela...AC? Also 80 and 76 since I forgot to tally in the +2 from charge.
83 right now.
Yet both attacks are stopped, the Nessians looming over you, "SURRENDER!" the one on Jaela barks, "THERE IS NO ESCAPE!"
Meanwhile, around Jetina and Moore, darkness comes again, thick and overwhelming.

ACs and other relevant things?
Moore's is 84 and Jetina's is 65 (unless she gets a cha to AC bonus I am unaware of), they both take half damage due to Sublime Revelry.
He does also have 8 images again but I do not think it matters.
She does, actually. Her deflection bonus to AC is her Charisma mod.
Ah! Then her AC is 67 due to Snowsong. Oh actually I forgot about that entirely, so thanks for reminding me. It is 71.
71 total then, to be clear?
Yes, that is correct, due to the +4 insight to AC and +4 to Charisma bonus she gets.

"Cease and desist," Jaela says sternly as she follows Afina in to regroup with their allies, and her magic reaches out to slap all those opened portals out of existence for a decent portion of a mile!
Her devil-hating spear is pointed at the nearest Nessian, its tip glowing, and she doesn't dawdle before announcing, "Gae Bolg, take aim! Burst of Glory!" As bolts of holy light shoot towards every devil in a hundred feet radius of her, Jaela orders, "Again!" and the spell fires a second time.
She's long since paying attention to it, however, as Jaela forces her magic to heal all allies present!

Quick question, you mean your teleport block spell, the 10th level one? What's the radius of effect with it?
Indeed. It's 1,500ft radius for me (in a sphere).
Thanks.
Portals snap shut as you cast your spell, sealing them off as healing mends Afina's wounds. But your burst of glory fails to phase the Nessians, who simply shrug it off like water off a duck's back. They're rising up more and more over the wall as...
Moore, go.
"Jetina, you're not going to like this, but I think we need to start trying to get out of this. I'll keep you going, just focus on that one!" Moore says with a gesture of the fiends that are directly behind them -- as best as he can tell, anyway. There seems to be a break in the these rainbow walls for them to go that way, so...
He'll just have to help Jetina the same way she helps him. He turns his attention towards the rear and focuses. He points at the fiends and hopes this works!

Chance to react if it matters, then going into Finnegan and Westwind's turns.

Stabs. Fire.
It all happens at once. Jetina slashes her Nessian, forcing it back with pure holy power in her blade. She leaps up and slashes its throat open, causing it to fall back as burning blood pours down its chest. An opening! Just in time as fireballs erupt all around, scorching more Nessians ahead of you. The ones fireballed and stabbed repeatedly simply fall, crumbling to heaps of obsidian as...
Going, Moore? As noted before, the dispel on the DA's didn't take.
He'll hold out for Jaela's go-round.
Before I do that -- if Moore hits himself with an Anti-Magic Ray, would that allow him to be the target of a Plane Shift or allow him to go through a Gate?
From IRC since we ended up talking about it there:
> Okay, if it's used against a creature, it stops them from using or being affected by magical effects like antimagic field. It explicitly doesn't apply to their gear, which they can still use. However, self-targeted stuff would run into the first part, so no plane shifting yourself. A gate spell, natural gate or planar boundary is hazier.
> My ruling is this: Any active spell fails, including a gate spell, unless it's from something that ignores antimagic anyway. Natural gates and planar boundaries come down to situational instances and I'm sidestepping them for now since it's not relevant and they aren't always uniform.
Okay. Then he'll stand his ground for now with Jetina and wait on Jaela's actions.
This may matter, so where precisely did you hide, Afina?
Lets say ninety feet straight up and thirty feet 'North' relative to the entrance of the prismatic tunnel.
The Nessians loom above Jaela, above the walls, absolute darkness coming from all of them ton consume her like an ant before the fury of an inferno.

She grits her teeth and endures, as Nessians loom over her and attack, claws looking to shred her apart.

"To me!" Jaela roars, drowning out the winds. Gae Bolg strives to eradicate all the devils within 100ft of her once more, beam after beam of purifying golden light striking at the Nessians! The rest of Jaela's magic, however, is focused on breaking foul devil magic and preparing for their extraction. "Sound off! Finnegan! Westwind! Moore! Jetina!"
Within her mind, she lets Afina know, 'Going to drop the block. Let's time it so you open the gate for us all when I give the word.'
And, of course, Jaela heals herself and her allies to get another breather, while shifting Gae Bolg for a more aggressive stance to be the one to draw attack.

Moore is consumed. Agony. He feels his body crack, flesh wither, blood spill. His eyes go dark, yet he endures, as Jetina is torn asunder, ripped and...
1 in 8000 of Jetina rolling 3 1s in a row. What can you do?
Anyway, 200 damage and blindness to Moore. 600 damage total and blindness to Jetina. Does she survive after fortunate fate, or is she toasted?
Due to the temporary HP from Inspire and the extra Con from Valiant Fury, Sublime Revelry cutting the damage from the one attack down by 13, she survives with 16 HP after fortunate fate. Theoretically I guess this also heals her blindness??
If she can use emergency healing prior to fortunate fate she would do so but she is alive even if she does not do that.
Sure, if she has uses left of it. Does she?
Yes, one. In that case she will throw in a mass heal after taking 400 damage, which she'll try and use on all the allies including Finnegan and Westwind if possible. It heals for 250 + 23. So this would mean her HP goes from 466 with some temp HP to 66, she heals up to 339 and then gets left with 139. It also heals Moore and Jaela and cures both their blindness.
I'm not blind.

'We leave on Go,' Jaela thinks succinctly to Afina, standing tranquil amidst exploding hellballs and flensing darkness. 'Three... two... one...'
And then time stops.
[21:36] <@Louise> roll 1d4+1
[21:36] <Serith> Louise roll for Serith < 5 > [d4=4]
Not wasting a moment of it, Jaela casts enough defensive spells to more than challenge a Nessian one on one and then decides to explore!
Round 1: Moonlight Revelation, Recitation, Mass Heal. Move 140ft towards the distant Nessians, see if I can spot Moore, Jetina, Westwind or Finnegan.
Round 2: Drop my dimensional interdiction, channel twinned Gae Assail into Gae Bolg, Celestial Valor, Divine Favor.
If I see nothing, I'll double-move in the other direction (280ft) and check there in Round 3.
If I still see nothing, I'll return to my original position, summon Mountainous Fire, use Holy Warrior and open a Gate on Round 4.
Please let me know if I see anything or not.
At the end of round one you can see Moore and what's left of Jetina - her gear mostly - but no sign of Finnegan or Westwind.
And on round one... of that.
'Oh, you stopped time? What's the status of our allies?' Afina appears out of the smog, flying down to rejoin Jaela.
'What a welcome surprise,' Jaela thinks to Afina, showing far more relief than she would have allowed herself during a pitched battle. 'That new girl, Jetina? She's gone. Moore's still hanging in there, from a Nessian's claw. No sign of Finnegan or Westwind, I'll keep looking.'
Just to be on the safe side, she gives her direction, speed and distance to Afina via telepathy, so they won't lose track of one another.
Altered Round 2: I'll head further in that direction (up to 280ft) and look for Finnegan and Westwind. Spells cast are Celestial Valor and Divine Favor.
You go - more Nessians but thinning out, no sign of Westwind and Finnegan.
"I'll deal with getting Moore free," Afina says. "Once time restarts I'll open a gate for us to leave and go."
She starts off by leaving some holly fire seeds on the nessian's back so she can detonate them when time resumes. That'll be far enough away from Moore to keep him safe.
Casting fire seeds for my round 2 action. That'll be 280 fire damage (half vs immune unfortunately), DC 34 ref half. No SR at least.
Cool. Round 3-5, you two?
'For fuck's sake, the Nessians are crowding this place for hundreds of feet!' Jaela exclaims in her mind. She feels terrible given her promise to the Triune, but if this situation can't be an exception what possibly applies?
'No sign of those two. I'm going to circle back to Moore from the south. Can you explore to the north of them? Same radius from Moore's location, about 140ft.'
Round 3: Heading for a position 140ft 'below' Moore, ie to the south on a map. I'll drop my dimensional interdiction, use Holy Warrior and summon Mountainous Fire right next to Moore as a handy beacon.
Still no sign of them that Jaela finds.
Jaela returns to Moore and spends a moment with Jetina's remains, packing them away into a bag of holding for a proper burial rather than leaving it for the devils.
Round 4: Return to Moore and Jetina, collect Jetina and her things.
Round 3 Afina moves 120 feet North and drops a delayed blast fireball where it'll scorch the pit fiend without hurting Moore.

There's a lot of things on the ground. Jetina's an outsider who died off plane, she doesn't leave a lot behind besides her possessions. How are you going to gather them quickly?
I see. In that case, as there's no body I'll focus on what I can from:

[Weapon]The Lost: Longsword+5, holy and evil outsider bane.
[Armor]Full Plate+7.

In that order. They'll probably conveniently together.
More importantly, does Afina see Westwind or Finnegan from the final direction I haven't explored?
She does not.
Afina returns. "No sign of them. Maybe Moore saw what happened?" she suggests, keeping a respectful distance from where her fireball is going to bloom. "We have to kill this one quick once time resumes." She throws out another fireball for good measure on that note.

To conclude with, Jaela channels twinned Gae Assail into Gae Bolg and takes a stand opposite the Nessian grasping Moore. With the pixie within reach, she alerts Afina, 'Dropping into normal time. Interdiction already down. Open a gate and I'll throw Moore through it and follow you.'
Round 5: Take another item with a standard, channel as move and positioning with a 5ft step. Once we drop into regular time, I will have a full round action and another swift, and Mountainous Fire will act on my init. Let's explode stuff!

And 7 negative levels.
Jaela takes a step back as the Nessian is destroyed, ordering Mountainous Fire, "Toss that pixie through this portal before killing as many Nessians as you can before your time's up!"
5ft step back through Afina's portal off plane. If by some miracle the Nessian remains alive, I will shoot it with my remaining swift.
A single stab - right through the Nessian's head, dissolving it into ash and freeing Moore, as you retreat to Elysium. Then...
Moore.
Mountainous Fire picks up the pixie in a massive, fiery hand and tosses him through the portal where Jaela is there to catch him!
Thus Moore is through the portal to Elysium, breathing its sweet air once more.
What was the plan from here. Assume you're still in init for now.
'Tepen!' Jaela tries to raise their link to Aurora's command. 'Can you hear me again?'
'Yes,' Tepen sends, 'Finally, we just tried a wish to - nevermind, what's your situation?'
He doesn't really have time to ask why all of a sudden he's being tossed. He'll have time for regret about everything later.
Afina closes the gate so that no brave Nessians can charge through and try a suicidal bit of troublemaking. "Moore, what happened to Finnegan and Westwind? They were there when I arrived," she asks the other pixie.
That will be that. Free act.
'Rescued Moore, Afina is safe, Jetina was killed before we managed to get to her,' Jaela reports in shorthand, listening to Afina's questioning with one ear. 'No sight of Westwind or Finnegan, and trust me, we looked. Through hundreds of feet all filled with Nessians! What happened? Can you raise them? Instruct Balyss to divine for their whereabouts and existence if not.'
"Westwind created some sort of whirlwind, I think. It was in the middle of everything. I told him I wished for him to get himself and Finnegan out of there as soon as I saw the Dimensional Anchor spell removed." Moore explains to the best of his knowledge. "If you didn't see them then I think they got away somehow."
"Mystra's mercy," Tepen murmurs in your mind, 'That's not just an attack, that's an apocalypse.'
'I got out what's left of Jetina, and like I said we managed to get Moore out and return,' Jaela continues, thawing out from the combat mindset. 'Afina saw Lixer approaching, which was just peachy. According to Moore, he told Finnegan and Westwind to escape in some manner of whirlwind. We haven't seen them or their bodies, and they all seemingly were under a powerful dimensional anchor so I don't see how they could've escaped or been abducted in the time lapse between their last sightings and our arrival.' That's enough exposition, Jaela decides, repeating, 'Can you contact either of them? If not, get Balyss right on this. We'll wait out here for a couple minutes in case they somehow managed to get off plane and still need rescue.'
This last telepathic part she shares with Afina as well, to relay her intentions properly.
Afina nods wordlessly, floating in the air at a considerate distance from everything so the shimmering heat haze around her doesn't hurt anyone or scorch the ground underfoot.
You three have a few minutes. Doing anything with it to prepare or just waiting in case?
Moore will throw a Surge of Hope on everyone, CL27, as well as Tyche's Touch CL16.
Jaela believes it shouldn't be too hard for Tepen to ask Balyss stuff via Elena. Given two Elenas, it would be nigh-instantaneous. So let's wait a couple rounds on the answer.
Afina just waits patiently.
Soon enough you get your reply.
'They're alive,' Tepen says, 'Still working on it as we speak.'
Afina doesn't say it, but Muirfinn was alive too. Lief was probably alive for a little while as well. She just continues to flutter in place until they can go find them or they know for sure they're beyond her reach.
For his part Moore just looks down at the ground with his eyes shut.
Jaela nods, responding with, 'Got it. Waiting on a destination.'
'They're safe in Air, though Westwind is distressed,' Tepen sends, 'Extremely so.'
'Give us a location and I'll open a gate for them,' Afina asks. If he's distressed he can be distressed among friends.
'Please wait,' Tepen replies. 'This is getting complicated.'
Jaela blinks, before suggesting, 'Tell Finnegan I'll be scrying on him. Afina can connect us after with Gate.'
'Done,' Tepen says, 'Finnegan says that they're in a palace in Air, and Westwind is in some sort of trouble with his fellow djinn.'
"Can't be helped," Jaela says, suppressing a sigh. "Afina, I'll be counting on your magic to get us in and out."
Then, she calls upon her devotion to the Triune to display Finnegan's current location and surroundings!
Miracle to scry on it with the usual floating image so we can all see it. Divine Insight and Sign precast with swifts beforehand.
Moore furrows his brow and takes in a breath. 'If it's because of a result of what happened, then I should be the one to try and smooth things over. It's my responsibility, at any rate.'
If that's the case, then...
He will cast Divine Insight and Greater Improvisation in preparation, in case he needs to go and be a diplomancer.
Finnegan sits on a plush chair floating in empty Air, a room of loosely defined blue-white air that's opaque, forming a rom. Westwind is nearby, pacing back and forth.
Afina drops her planar bubble and obligingly casts a gate spell to that location, flying directly through it.

Jaela follows after her!
Moore will fly through after them. "I'll talk to them. It's probably something to do with him using his powers to get out of there. So if possible, I want to try and do what I can do."
The room's nice in an airy sort of way, fresh air and not a hint of Smoke's miasma. "You made it out," Finnegan looks right at Moore, "Jetina?"
Westwind is pacing back and forth in the meanwhile, hands behind his back.
"We didn't get to her in time," Jaela tells Finnegan, shaking her head. "I'm sorry." She moves past him, then, lingering only to place her hand on his shoulder before she approaches Westwind.
Moore winces at that and takes a breath, as his expression hardens.
"It's nothing for you to apologize for, Jaela. I'm the one who got caught in a trap, we're lucky that you and Afina were able to find us so quickly at all. But there's time for admonishment over all of this later -- what's going on, Prince Westwind? If this is due to my actions, then please let me make things right, if I can." He says with a look over at the pacing one.
Afina just lingers in the background. Her presence can be an impediment to delicate elemental matters given she's as much of Earth as of Air, and she doesn't see much point getting caught up in recriminations at the moment. She'll listen to what Westwind's predicament is and they can figure out a solution from there.
"Did her soul get away?" Finnegan asks, voice soft and head bowed.
Westwind turns to you, "My friends, I will be glad to help you with this hereafter, assuming I am able and capable, both of which are in serious doubt."
"I believe so," Jaela responds to Finnegan. "The anchor was dispelled by then, and it wasn't a cursed blade that struck her down but area attacks."
As Westwind speaks, rather cryptically, she asks him, "Are you being kept prisoner here?"
"I didn't see any reason to believe anything untoward happened." Moore answers to Finnegan with a sad smile. He turns to Westwind and takes another breath, as if steadying himself. "Can you please explain what's going on? Are you in trouble because of what I asked you to do?"
Finnegan nods and settles back down into his chair without comment.
"No, but I abused the power given to me by the Whirlwind Throne," Westwind says, "There are rules, pacts and limits to the wishes we djinn can grant. I violated several of them above and beyond any question." He slumps back, "Terrible! I'll be lucky if I don't spent several centuries demoted to the low nobility or worse!"
"I presume your wish was to escape to safety with Finnegan?" Jaela guesses. "Wouldn't that have been Finnegan's wish as well? And so, wouldn't you have been executing it for him?"
"You did what I asked you to do." Moore contends. He takes another breath. "Please, let me at least try and speak on your behalf. I have some experience with this sort of thing and I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I didn't at least try."
"It took more than a mere wish," The djinn says, "A djinn's wish is not like a wizard's wish. We appeal to the Whirlwind Throne directly, and so long as the wish is in line with our pacts and limits, they will be granted," Westwind continues to pace, staring ahead at nothing as he speaks.
"No. I took the wish and demanded more, granted myself my own desire. I called directly on the Whirlwind Throne, I forced the wish to be granted. Even in the depths of servitude to Hiwa and Hiya, the rules were obeyed and the pacts honored. This? This profaned them, broke the limits like cheap glass. The one thing a djinn noble must do, above all other things, is uphold these rules!"
"It was a circumstance that demanded immediate attention." Moore says with a shake of his head. "At any rate, please, let me talk to whomever it is that is adjudicating this. Or are we waiting on that now...?"
"Is there a concept of restitution here, or precedent of such?" Jaela asks the person in the know. "Or is the sole possibility a demotion in rank?"
"We will either be seen by the Whirlwind Throne or by several Grand Caliphs," Westwind sighs deeply and sits, "It would be within their purview to cast me out of the djinn, never to return. It is possible they could even suggest execution, but that is rare save for treason being involved. Demotion is not just likely, it is nigh inevitable. It is not a question of restitution, it is a question of upholding the pacts and rules of djinn wishes."
"We live in a time where many long-held pacts are being broken, and we were not the ones to cast the first stone into that lake." Moore says. "We will stand with you, Westwind, if you'll allow it."
Jaela nods. "We will not let you be executed or harmed, but I won't go beyond advocating on your behalf if it's a demotion. I want to be upfront about this. Even if you are, however, you'll always have a place of honor with Aurora until you regain the Whirlwind Throne's favor."
Musing about this some more and deciding to treat the situation as Westwind breaking his Code, she asks, "What were you expected to do in that situation, cornered by a horde of Nessians and with Lixer himself arriving on the scene? And what is the Whirlwind Throne's stance on devilkind and our Crusade?"
"You're welcome to stand with me," Westwind says, "But know that if you do, by djinn custom, you subject yourselves to the judgment of the Whirlwind Throne and its authority on this matter. you may not come away unscathed."
After a moment of thought, "Thank you. To do as a djinn prince would. To fight, retreat, fall bravely in battle. Any and all and more, but not to break my responsibilities."
Moore nods. "I don't mind." He says. It's surely not the idea that Crystalle had for him, but to stand steadfast along with an ally would be something that he would surely be proud of.
"We stand by those who risk themselves to free Lifasa," Afina finally speaks up. "Whether you are recent to the Crusade or have been with us from the start makes little difference."
Westwind gives both of you a grateful look, "Then I suggest you prepare yourselves for this. Know that the Chamber of Wisdom is anti magic, so you will be deprived of your magic within."
"Doing it naturally, huh?" Moore says with a smile and a small shrug. "That's all right. That means everyone's on a level playing field."
Since he knows that, he'll take 10 for a K:P check here for 89 to see if there's anything he can think of that might help aid him in arbitration. He may as well use the magic now since he can't later! If K:L (Air) would be more appropriate he can do that also.
Have any skills related to lawyering or the like?
"Any other instructions?" Jaela asks Westwind. "Are we supposed to go in unarmed?"
I have all the skills! Take 10 on Profession (Planar Lawyer) for 59, using Divine Insight on it
"They'll walk you through it," Westwind says, "You're not expected to know the rituals as foreigners. No weapons, but armor's acceptable."
Winding down here, answer will be tonight, Moore.
Jaela nods once more. "We all have our strengths, so once we put them together we'll aim for the most favorable outcome."
Telepathically, she sends to Tepen, 'Do you have a good handle on the situation by now from Finnegan and Westwind or need me to fill you in? Insight into the Whirlwind Throne politics, attitudes and desires we could play as cards in negotiations would be appreciated.'
If Tepen, in fact, doesn't know what's going on I'll summarize for his benefit.
The djinn respect flair, honesty, integrity and actions over words. While the pacts and what you can't do are clear, the penalties are much more varied and left to the Whirlwind Throne or the grand caliphs to decide. There's no mandatory punishment, but due to how serious an offense this is seen as, that's hardly a deterrent to getting slammed there. It's said no one's ever escaped punishment for breaking the rules of wishes.
'Please tell me more,' Tepen says.
"I think, if anything, the fact that as of right now the rules are different is what gives us the most leeway. Bel's actions are an affront to everyone, especially in the divine scheme of things." Moore says after some thinking. "If it comes to it and there's no way to avoid a punishment that will make us weaker, then I say we at least ask for it to be stayed until after our operation on Lifasa." He adds. "That's my take on it, anyway."
Moore will send the same information to Tepen just to get his opinion!
Jaela dutifully relates to Tepen all that Westwind had told them of his offense and the possible punishments, as well as the implications towards them when they stand at his side. In particular, she points out that they would be out of contact due to the effects of antimagic, and that if he has any relevant precedents she could draw upon in Westwind's defense that would help with sentencing, it would be worth it looking through Aurora's library and filling her in while they still remain in contact.
'I'll have Vul'lath look it up in the library,' Tepen sends, 'How long do you have?'
'Absolutely no idea.'
'Understood. Good luck,' Tepen sends back.
Meanwhile Westwind sighs deeply, "Are you having any luck with Tepen?"
"He's up to date on things, but without knowing how much of a wait it would be he can't reliably help. Still, that's why we're here in person."
"Even if he doesn't get back to us, relying on the truth of the matter should be sufficient." Moore says with a nod.
Okay, going to do anything or just wait?
Wait
We've done all we can do to be prepared I think.
Yeah I got nothing to really do here right now. I guess I can gate to Aurora and have someone collect our weapons so we don't have to worry about them being stolen from incompetent djinni guards while we're in court. I'll do that. Smrgol can do the pickup.

Time passes. A half hour, then some more. You aren't really sure how long.
"The Whirlwind Throne is taking time to begin this," Westwind notes, "Unusual, but the delay may help us. Anything from Tepen?"
"I'll check," Jaela offers, thinking to Tepen, 'Seems like the Whirlwind Throne is uncertain of where it wants this to go, given the time delay thus far. Anything in the library we could use?'
'Yes, we just got something,' Tepen sends back, 'The best chance is to push it to the Whirlwind Throne itself, and try to wear that down rather than several grand caliphs. Unfortunately, history is not on your side.'
"The home team thinks we should insist on getting this heard before the Whirlwind Throne itself instead of going through a grand caliph," Jaela voices, deciding that bad news aren't really needed in this situation. "I don't suppose that's in your birthright?"
"I think the situation may have already risen to that point, considering how long this is taken so far." Moore offers. "I suppose we'll see."
It takes a little longer until a djinn enters, clad in silken pants and bare chested. He stands tall and says, "You will be seen now, grand caliph."
"Well then, shall we go?"
Moore nods his agreement.
The party is lead within, the additional four people not getting any reaction from your escort.
You are lead through a long hallway, gentle winds blowing. Clean and fresh air, and with them you can hear far away song. Auran if you don't miss your guess, singing of the wind and sky. The walls slowly become less and less opaque, sunny and clear skies glimpsed beyond these walls. Up a short set of airy stairs and before a barrier of light.
"I am of the Noble Wind!" Your escort declares in Auran, "Before the Whirlwind Throne I bring Grand Caliph Westwind, for the ancient pacts have been broken. Admit your noble servant, oh Lord of the Four Winds!"
The barrier of light dims and your guide strides forward, through the barrier.
Moore will go along! "Don't worry, Westwind. I got you into this, I'll see you out of it." He promises.
As you walk forward, Westwind says in your minds, 'Be brave and make a good first impression. Do not show fear or direspect.'
Moore turns and nods to Westwind, waiting to see who it is they meet so he can properly introduce themselves.
You are lead within the barrier of light.
Here is a vast open sky. At the bottom is sunlight and warmth, rising up into darkness, eventually turning into the starry sky above you. You stand in the middle - perfect dusk, in between day and night. Slowly this fades and you stand in an elaborate, beautiful stone room. Here half a dozen djinn, well dressed and virtually dripping rich jewelry, stand before a throne. A throne that is a tornado, silently raging and spinning behind them.
A figure sits on the throne, but is difficult to make out amid the whirlwind gusts. The voice that comes from it is the shrieking winds of a whirlwind.
"Westwind! Present yourself!"
This is the sort of thing he's made for, so Moore flies slightly ahead.
"Great Whirlwind Throne!" Moore begins, speaking in a language likely known by his allies, but perhaps not understood: High Elemental. "My name is Moore, of Aurora and blessed with the wisdom of Erathaol of Celestia. I stand with my allies, Finnegan of Aurora ,General Jaela of Aurora, bearer of the Triune's might, and General Afina Devilsbane, prismatic pixie of Lady Titania!" He sweeps his arms to them in greeting.
"We stand with Prince Westwind, understanding of the djinn customs of bearing his sins in these trials. We stand with him as a staunch ally of Aurora, one who deserves the utmost respect. We will support him during this trial and will accept the wisdom of the Whirlwind Throne at its conclusion. However, before we continue, I feel I need to explain the situation that led to this." Moore says, taking a breath.
"Bel, Lord of the First, has set his foot on the prime of Lifasa. He has broken all the rules of The Competition and we are gearing up to face Hell itself on Lifasa before it dies." Moore states firmly, but he hopes his voice echos loudly enough to fly on the winds themselves. "In doing so, we went to Smoke to seek out a devil plot. It was there that we were ambushed by agents of Hell, including dozens, perhaps even hundreds of Nessian Pit Fiends and their allies. If it weren't for Prince Westwind, the losses would have been even more than just my friend who died under the assault of their putrid and vile magic. His heroism and valor saw to the deaths of many dozens of Hell's forces, and his bravery in facing them and wisdom in retreating when he realized the odds were exemplary." Moore concludes.
"I am not intimately familiar with djinn customs, but It is my opinion that Bel cast the first stone, and we would be remiss in ignoring his affronts to Creation. I hope you will consider this in your judgement for Prince Westwind." Moore adds. He clears his throat once more and looks directly at the tornado. "Hell will not triumph as long as those like Westwind roam the planes."
Afina remains a pixie-sized step behind Westwind, for all that her feet don't touch the ground, and a little to his right as she enters and takes her cues from him.
Listening to Moore orate she wonders exactly what he's saying. He's going on for a while without being told to shut up so she supposes it's probably good.
Jaela remains at Westwind's side, her stride having been assured and confident throughout. Moore asked for the chance to chair the djinn's defense, and she doesn't mind giving him a chance. Better whatever he has in mind than her would-be approach, of accepting the mistake and seeking to make amends after owning up to it.
Go ahead and toss a diplo check with that.
As mentioned you all have just stepped into anti magic, so remember to factor in all those changes with your roll's total.
Moore will take 10 for ... carry the 1... 51, factoring in the lower Charisma and no access to magic items and so on.
The Whirlwind Throne speaks into your minds directly.
'We have not even begin and you defend Westwind?' he asks. A man's voice, no doubt about it. 'You are as eager as a spring gale.'
"We all have a duty to support our allies." Moore answers, not sounding the least bit admonished. "It would be shameful to do any less for someone such as he."
Prince Westwind comes forward, bowing deeply. "That's simply how it is," he says to the whirlwind.
To this the whirlwind declares, 'Brave as all the birds in the sky,' it goes on, 'But are you wise?'
"I will admit my faults in pulling Prince Westwind into a battle we were outmatched in." Moore says, shifting slightly, until he takes a breath and seems to find some resolve. "However, Celestia teaches us that wisdom can be found more often in failure than in success. I cannot say a situation like that would never happen again, but I know that I have learned from the experience. However, wisdom itself is nothing without the strength to allow you to use it, as I have also learned from this experience." He adds, bowing his head slightly to Westwind.
Your words are heard and then the whirlwind grows silent.
The djinn before the throne are stony-faced and silent, until one advances. This one wears white and has a full, bushy mustache and sideburns. "I am Grand Caliph Hamadan. I have served the Whirlwind Throne without failure since the days when mortals traveled the winds of time. Not once have I failed the pacts that oversee wishes. What say you, Westwind's defender? What say you? What excuses his folly? Speak not, Westwind, for you have chosen this one to speak your words. What say you, generals of Aurora? What dread necessity is more important than the laws of the Whirlwind Throne?"
"Grand Caliph Hamadan, the laws themselves have been broken by the likes of Bel and his advances onto the Primes of Creation." Moore says simply. "We no longer exist in an era where one can hold full to the past without any room for understanding of intent. What would the Whirlwind Throne have gained if Prince Westwind had been defeated there? What if he had been captured and turned into a pawn of the Lord of the Ninth?" Moore shakes his head. "I do not ask you to absolve him of all his crimes because of my ignorance, but I ask for you to understand that Hell is no longer willing to follow their own laws as they try and corrupt everything around them." At this, he takes in another breath -- the air here is so clean...
"We are willing to do everything we can to stop Hell's advances." He says. "I would hope that conviction and resolve is worth something."
After his opening statement Moore switched back to regular Auran.
Afina raises her gaze towards their interrogator. "I do not seek to excuse my loyal comrade's actions, Grand Caliph," she says softly. "If wrong was done, recompense must be paid. I only ask that leniency be granted. Westwind has long laboured under the unjust servitude of devil-kind, trapped as he was in bondage to Semyaza's perverse spawn. Only recently freed and suddenly faced with the prospect of becoming a plaything of Hell once more? Even the most stalwart of hearts would quail in those circumstances. So be glad that Westwind remains free among you, and consider how he might now serve the Whirlwind Throne, when he came very close to once more serving Hell."
"Aurora, Grand Caliph Hamadan," Jaela finally speaks, "allows for a range of opinions. By its conception, we've come together from all walks of life to be bound by a single unifying thread. Lifasa's freedom, and by necessity opposition of the Hells."
She looks the advancing djinn straight in the eyes as she then states, "This is why I must respectfully disagree with my companions." Well, it's a guess given Moore's stated intention before they were shown before the Throne, at least. "I will honor their wishes, of course. If recompense is to be paid, so be it. If I must put my life on the line in order to stand with my friend, that's not even a difficult choice. But I believe that he made an error of judgement in this case."
Jaela gathers her thoughts, not giving any sign to the discomfort the memory brings to her. "My understanding of the importance of the Pacts in question is regrettably incomplete, but it must be on the level of the Code some of us live by. If that is so, I understand Prince Westwind's mistake quite well, because I've made it myself, once upon a time. In a situation where I was surrounded with fiends from every direction, cut off from my support and threatened with a fate worse than death, I gave in. Rather than stand and fight to the bitter end, I told myself that the fate of the person with me was more important than any harm I might do in this way. Perhaps, even, my reasonable fear of that threatened outcome has also influenced me, for few of us can truly call themselves fearless."
She nods slowly. "As here, it was a mistake. In fact, to call it such would be a gross understatement. The consequences were disastrous, for myself personally and for the Crusade, and I regret them to this very day. I've never forgotten that mistake, and I doubt it will ever truly leave me alone. I was punished by my peers, by my rivals and by myself. Yet the Triune, whose Code it was that I broke at that time, had not demoted me. I had not received so much as an infraction from her. Instead, she offered me support and wisdom, and it is through those gifts that I stand here today before you, perhaps a bit wiser. I know better than to fail like that again, and I'm proud in being the Triune's vessel for change throughout the planes."
Looking over the gathered nobles in this chamber, Jaela asks, "What is our goal here, today? If it is to harm Prince Westwind for his offense? Or is it to teach him a lesson he will never forget, and in doing so provide one for future generations? Since you have asked for my opinion, it is that one course of action might satisfy the part of us that needs someone to suffer for a wrong, while the other brings us to a better outcome. What is the better way to demonstrate the importance of the Pacts to others? Through a display of punishment that is already expected by all involved, or by having Prince Westwind talk before them, as I have here before you, so that those who come after us might learn from our hard-won experience?"
Jaela pauses for a moment, and when she speaks again her gaze is now directed at the Whirlwind Throne. "I have not had the pleasure of knowing him for long, but I know enough to state with absolute certainty, that I see myself in Prince Westwind. If you give him a second chance, he will not disappoint you. On that, I'm willing to bet my own life."
Go ahead and toss diplo, Jaela. Bear in mind this is anti magic.

Before Hamadan can speak again, another caliph approaches. This one is tall and thin, a gaunt face and piercing green eyes. He walks slowly and without any hurry.
"You speak of a code. You are a divine servant of some nature?" The unnamed one asks, "So faithful that you will bet your life and trust your Triune to carry you through?"
"Indeed, I serve the Triune," Jaela responds without hesitation. "I trust in her when I execute her will, and I am willing to risk myself in the course of my service. That much is a given. However, if your question is whether I expect the Triune to rescue me in the case of an unfavorable judgement, that would be wrong. The Triune would understand my choice and why I've made it. She will not intervene in this matter, and I never counted on that."
The unnamed caliph eyes you long a that, studying you openly.
Caliph Hamadan speaks after your words, "You. Even if Hell chooses to break a rule, why should we? Are you conceding that law is meaningless? We allowed Westwind's situation to stand before, and would allow it again were he bound to Hiwa and Hiya a second time."
"I do not mean to saw that laws and rules are meaningless." Moore says with a small smile. "Only that there is wisdom in understanding when they should be applied and when one should be given pause on them. In that I think I disagree with my companion, but I would not say her way of thinking is wrong, either." Moore says. He does take a moment to collect himself as well before he says something else.
"However, what I would say is that the level to which Hell is going in breaking the rules set forth in Creation itself need to be responded to. If they are playing with a completely different set than everyone else, it does us no good to allow that. I think laws, much like faith, should be used to guide people into being better. Most hope that punishment is used to rehabilitate someone -- to understand what they did was wrong and how to better themselves. If it is the judgement of the Whirlwind Throne to punish Prince Westwind for his actions, although I would personally disagree, I would not spit in the wind to curse your name for deciding as such. I would just say that this is a unique situation that deserves further understanding due to the time we find ourselves in." Moore concludes.
Caliph Hamadan is silent after Moore's words, his gaze swinging to Afina.
"You speak of recompense. What recompense could you offer to make this wrong acceptable, in your mind? What wondrous thing from your forges would suffice, artificer? Is that not what you mean, for you forge as surely as Samem of the Gale or Kassim of the Honored Flame."
"What do you want?" Afina replies. "A weapon to split the screaming Earth in two? A shield of Air impermeable to all attacks? An eternal unfeeling guardian of peerless elemental might?" she lists a few possibilities before shaking her head. Offering a golem to replace the guardian Ithea killed so as to placate Sunnis was one thing, but she doesn't see tangible gifts as being truly relevant here.
"None of those fit the crime, do they? If Westwind broke a window, or a vase, I could well replace them. But broken pacts are not so easily made up for. As my fellow general has done, permit me to speak of my own experiences. Facing death in Magmasoul with our Crusade incomplete, I violated what it means to be a fey. I willingly transformed myself into an eternal outsider, rather than allowing myself to die and reincarnate as is proper. I would have gladly borne any punishment from her Majesty Titania for that transgression. Because all things have a price - Queen Titania has only recently made that price clear to me, and I have accepted it. And so my unique status has become something that her Majesty can use to further her own goals, even if I deviated from what was expected of me.
"So too then must Westwind pay a price. My knowledge of the djinn and their pacts is not so great that I can accurately say what he should pay - that is a decision for his peers and Whirlwind Throne to make. But I believe he is a man who understands what is expected of him, and will bear any punishment with the grace of a noble. As his comrade in arms I can only ask that you be flexible and not unyielding in this. Find a price that exalts djinn-kind rather than a punishment that debases this one man."
There is a long, thoughtful pause at all of this. As there is...
Go ahead and throw in your own diplo check, fearsome AFINA.

A third Grand Caliph advances. This one is muscular and well built, bald and without facial hair. His steps shake the airy ground as he says, "You support your comrade without reservations, ladies? Without fear, without hesitation? Remarkable. Yet, can you withstand this? It is time, oh Whirlwind Throne."
A sudden pulse of overwhelming power is felt. The presence of the Whirlwind Throne and the one on it is overwhelming, choking. You can't think, you can't breathe, you can't do anything but feel it, minds reeling back.
Will saves, all.

The aura is overwhelming, intense. Pure intensity, pure spirit - but somehow the three of you endure. You see Finnegan stumble back and go reeling, but the three of you somehow function despite every moment being consumed by a knowledge of the entity before you. His presence is everything here, so massive as to overshadow you as a mountain overshadows a flea.
Yet you stand firm.
The muscled caliph laughs long at this, "Splendid. Nothing is done without strength, good or bad. Your wills are remarkably strong, this is not empty bravado to dare to stand before us and demand we excuse Westwind's great failure. I am the Grand Caliph of the Citadel of Ice and Steel, the right hand of the Whirlwind Throne. I am he who has stood in the fiercest tornado and stayed unbowed. I am he who erodes even the hardest earth into dust. I am the first djinn to serve the Whirlwind Throne. I am older than your minds can comprehend, for I have seen everything in this Creation. I am he who stood before Ogremoch and told him to move - and he moved."
Each boast has him take a step forward, until he stands before all of you. "I am the Grand Caliph Arsama. Which of you is brave enough to face me in single combat? Which of you will have your skull crushed beneath my hands?"
Jaela cracks a grin, stepping forward to close the distance still remaining between them. "I had a really nice speech about making my challenger understand what it is like to face hordes of Nessians and Lixer himself, but that's probably small change for you, Grand Caliph Arsama. So without any boasting, I am Jaela of Aurora, and I shall be your opponent." It might look impressive to end on that, but she opts for efficiency and asks, "What are the rules of single combat before the Whirlwind Throne?"
"Anything you can manage in this anti magic," The Grand Caliph says. He is indeed bald, but looks no older than 30 human years. He is strong, muscular. His entire body is broad and vast, yet not an ounce of fat can be seen on his bare chest. He wears black pants and jewelry, like a wind carrying along all the treasures of the earth. "Make peace with your Triune, for I will send your soul to her."
The other grand caliphs step back and out of the way of the coming confrontation.
"You expect her to fight without even a weapon in her hand, while barring any magic?" Afina speaks up, because this just seems absurd to her. What does it prove? How does it relate to Westwind's breaking of his pacts?
"I fight with a spear," Jaela decides to point out. "Antimagic is one thing, but we were told that weapons were not permitted before the Whirlwind Throne, and so our armament is back at the Aurora. Are we sending for them?"
"If you dislike it, join the battle to aid her. I will allow you to challenge me with Jaela," Grand Caliph Arsama says. "What say you, Afina of Aurora?"
"I know how to fight with fists and feet," Afina flutters into the air and positions alongside Jaela. "But I would know what I am fighting for. Would dying for Westwind satisfy the stain on his honour? Would triumph wipe away his sins?"
There's a pause as the Grand Caliph sizes the both of you up.
He's taking 10 on a Sense Motive check. Are you two being sincere about fighting him, to the death if need be?
If you want to protect something other than what you feel, make a Bluff check.
Afina is willing to fight to her 'death' in as much as it means she'd suffer painfully and be barred from Air for a hundred years or whatever. If soul destruction or imprisonment is on the table she'd totally back down. She's not really hiding anything, for all that her expression is typically bland.
Jaela is willing to fight him to the death, whichever death it would be. But yes, the answer to Afina's question better be along the lines of 'my life for Westwood's'. I was going to bring it up when Afina did it first.
Moore, for his part, has moved off to the side. There's no wisdom in trying to help them when he literally can't do anything under a antimagic field like this.
Finally, the Grand Caliph says, "Stand down. They are willful and brave. I have no quarrel with them being here."
A moment's pause. "I speak with the authority of the Whirlwind Throne in this matter, for by special dispensation, I have the royal right to determine any violation of the pacts of wishes personally. You offer your lives to save a new ally for a crime you do not fully comprehend or understand. The rumor that Aurora never leaves behind its own is not wrong after all."
A rather smug smirk comes to the Grand Caliph's face, "Those who have sought to spare a noble djinn from judgment and have made this far can be counted on two hands, and the addition of you three does not change that. Westwind! Your friends are brave enough to face down certain death for you. Are you the same, oath breaker?"
You treat others the way you yourself wish to be treated. Isn't that the very basics?
It doesn't look like a place for Jaela to speak, but what encouragement she can give, she does with a look at Westwind.
Moore does the same as Jaela, a smile and a nod.
Afina flies back to resume her place at Westwind's side, dainty feet silently touching the floor once more while she minutely adjusts her hat.
"I am," Westwind says, "I broke the pacts for the sake of Aurora and those that saved me. This is a trifling compared to that."
The Grand Caliph nods, "Then as a Prince of the Djinn and the right hand of the Whirlwind Throne, I sentence Grand Caliph Westwind to the final death for defying the Whirlwind Throne and abusing his power of wishes. I suspend this sentence until Lifasa is freed, destroyed or inseparably united with Hell. At that time this judgment will be reviewed. Additionally, you are stripped of the ability to grant wishes, this takes effect immediately and may only be restored by the Whirlwind Throne's will. You are severed from your servants, wealth and lands, they will be administered by the Whirlwind Throne until such time as you die or are granted them back, this takes effect immediately as well. Any further offense against the Whirlwind Throne will have your sentence carried out immediately by any and all means at my disposal."
Then Arsama turns to the three of you. "Know that if Westwind commits another offense against the Whirlwind Throne, you will forever be declared enemies of the djinn. You will be pursued, captured and brought to the Whirlwind Throne to answer for your failures, as well as suffer whatever punishment is deemed fit."
Finally the Grand Caliph adds, "Leave. ...and know that I expect nothing less than the defeat of Hell and the efreet you have tangled with."
Afina bows to the throne and silently turns to leave. They can discuss their feelings on this judgement when they're not right in front of the judge.
Moore follows suit with Afina and will fly after her!
So their efforts against the slavers were noticed after all! That's one bit of uplifting news in this fiasco, and Jaela focuses on that as she bows before the Whirlwind Throne.
The five of you leave and promptly step out into empty Air. Just flying in Air, nothing around in any direction.
"We were ejected from the Citadel," Westwind supplies, sagging deeply and holding his head with his hands, facepalming. "Air's mercy, I survived that. A suspended sentence! Unbelievable."
Jaela opens a gate to Aurora's doorsteps, and gestures at it.
"Lets hope we impress enough before Lifasa's fate is resolved to see further mercy," Afina says, flying through the gate back home.
Moore will fly through. They still have plenty to talk about even after all of that, but the comforts of Aurora are a better place to do so.
The party flies back to Aurora, soon inside and...
All of you wanna talk, so set yourselves up and talk. Whomever wants to start that post that you're doing it, so we know who to wait on.
"Um... I'm not really sure where to start with all of this." Moore says, rather awkwardly once they're back and through.
"I can go into the details of why were in Smoke to begin with, but... suffice to say, it seems like whatever is there they're guarding really well. I... uh... hm. I'm..." He takes a breath. "I'm sorry for putting you all through it." He says to Finnegan and to Westwind first of all, with a bow.
"It won't happen again. For a variety of reasons, I'm sure." He says, a little bit sourly. "Either way, I would appreciate hearing your opinions on if we even try and do anything there, knowing how much Hell seems to want to protect it." He says, turning to Jaela and Afina.
"I guess to answer my own question, why we were even there... I received a missive -- a vision, I guess you could say. To go there and stop the devil experiments on the poisons and gasses they were concocting. Either somehow they know how to fake my own visions or there was something else going on there beyond what I could see." He explains.
"So your first order of business is to confirm whether your visions are being spoofed," Jaela notes. "Sounds about right?"
"Hell periodically scries on all of Aurora's officers, Moore," Afina says as they settle in. "Far more likely the devil in charge of that ongoing operation managed to catch one of you outside of the safety of Aurora and dispatched forces to eliminate you, probably without any awareness of why you were even there. So I wouldn't link the hundreds of Nessians and son of Asmodeus appearing to battle us with any minor poison-creating operation. The fact that they were clearly holding back and waiting for reinforcements to appear to relieve you before fighting at full strength further confirms that."
Elena pops in, dressed up in clerical vestments and smiles, "Oh hey, you all made it back alive! You gave everyone here a scare."
Jaela gives Elena a thumbs up sign. "You were scared? A terrifying djinn threatened to punch me to death."
"So you think it was just a coincidence?" He asks, letting out a breath as he thinks. "I guess it's as likely as any other possibility. Either way, I'll see what I can do to verify nothing is... interfering, I suppose. If either of you have time with your other operations that you wouldn't mind aiding me with going back there and dismantling whatever their operation is, I would appreciate it." He says. "I'm not so proud as to not understand that it'd probably best if I accompany someone else rather than lead my own charge for the time being."
"I don't really mind," Jaela tells Moore, "though I'd want to nab another traitor or two first to have tangible progress there. And on that note, I'm heading off to see Balyss again. Westwind, take some time off active duty until all this sets in properly. Look me up once it does, alright?"
"I'm concentrating fully on the Lifasan front," Afina shakes her head, not seeing a strike at some outpost on Smoke as being a worthwhile use of her time when Lifasa's on such a tight timer. "I'm going to go rest now, so I can resume that tomorrow."
"Sure." He says with a nod to Jaela and then a nod to Afina as well. "I understand. Thank you both."
Okay then, now what you three?
Heading to pester Balyss about traitors.
Moore will go find Tepen or Vul'lath to chat to, though he guesses he's going to be sent back to Balyss eventually anyway.
Afina's basically done until day 85 now. She'll bum around Aurora in case stuff happens and tomorrow she'll go attack Lifasa again, possibly with information from Balyss.
I'll split you three up into topics in a little while, possibly after session.
