Okay Moore, you talked about gifts for Kossuth in the last topic?
Yes, maybe some prizes from the Abolition War? I know a few were mentioned specifically but good luck trying to find that topic ever.
Who would know the most about them barring Zaphkiel? Moore doesn't want to bother him. Maybe Raziel? Vel Custos? Not sure if they have someone who keeps track of that stuff.
Okay, you mean who knows the most about the prizes? Do you mean ones you won, ones Celestia one or some other definition? It's a little blurry here, so could you clarify?
Ones Celestia won, or, going a bit further, maybe some things that they picked up in the past (talking super long ago past, here).
We're basically looking for a few things that Celestia owns as a whole that may have originally belonged to Fire specifically, if that helps clarify things.
Your knowledge tells you that really any of the Hebdomad would do well here, but Raziel in particular would be suitable.
Then that is easy enough!
Lord Raziel, hello again. Do you have some time to speak on a matter? I am looking for items, perhaps even artifacts, that once belonged to Fire.
I am hoping to make a diplomatic effort to Kossuth directly to smooth things over with him. We, ah, well, you may already know, but there've been some recent events that I think have soured his opinion of us, so I thought perhaps returning some lost items to him may help, and thought you may know a few in particular that may be suitable for this task.
You speak and turn - and sitting nearby is Erathaol. He turns the page of the book he reads before, "Raziel is off plane right now," he explains, voice quiet. "I am tending to his affairs in the interim."
"It doesn't happen to be anything to do with what the Authority of Generosity was dealing with some time ago, does it?" Moore asks.
He clears his throat. "Regardless, thank you for coming."
The book is marked and closed before Erathaol turns his attention to you. "You have a request?"
"Yes. I'm looking for items from Fire, or that may be useful to Fire." Moore says. He will repeat what he said to Raziel. "I am hoping to make a diplomatic effort to Kossuth directly to smooth things over with him. You're aware of the recent events, so I thought perhaps returning some lost items to him may help."
"It may," Erathaol agrees, "Does what items you return matter in particular?"
"To me, no." Moore says. "If it means we can improve our relationship, I'm even willing to put forth knowledge and access to things we have here in Hope's Landing that I believe he may be interested in. I think giving something without any wish of anything in return is the best way to open good fortune for us."
"I'll arrange it," Erathaol says, standing up now. "It is the will of Celestia that relations here be improved."
"However I can help I am happy to do so." Moore says.
With that Erathaol is gone.
Be aware, great matters move on Fire.
Whatever we can do to balance things I will commit to fully.
I cannot speak of it further, it is a matter both myself and my counterpart are invested in and cannot come to an agreement on.
It's like a fight between two siblings, except on a much larger scale.
Forgive me for my insolence, but even you must find counsel outside of your normal circle, every now and again.
I do when I can, for even the humblest mortal at times can surprise us.
Were I not of that opinion, my son would have never disagreed with me.
He doesn't want to sound like he's lecturing him, but Moore wonders if he forgets the forest for the trees sometimes.
It took some outside influence to get him to wake up too - I simply mean to say that you can't give up even if it seems like you both can't come to an agreement. Sometimes you have to let someone behind the curtain to get a better perspective.
There is always hope, after all.
If I can help in this matter, I will. Otherwise I will continue to pursue the rest of my duties.
I cannot give up, but I cannot speak more. Be aware of Fire and be wary of it, for events move forward.
Were I to break my agreement with my counterpart, he would be free to ignore it as well, and our Competition in Fire could well result in an outcome neither of us desire.
As you will it.
If there's nothing else immediate that's going to happen, this is just a 'he would get an update on this to make sure it's fresh in the DM's mind'
*I'm guessing Dis hasn't replied about Syllen's stuff.
*Any update on Aurora and Danaxmos?
Dis has not. Act surprised.
Sure, feel free to reach out and get up an update.
Moore will check in with Sylvie since she was the one spearheading that!
Sylvie's found with Calley, as the two study an illusory magical script projected into the air. "...remember, that no matter what, never mix that rune with anything but itself. It has to be contained within the spell work or it'll ruin the entire spell. That's the trick of why antimagic spells are so hard."
"Trying something new? Or just the fundamentals?" Moore asks curiously.
"Advanced theory," Sylvie says, as Calley yawns. A glance to him, "Go play," she waves, as Calley hops up and runs off.
"So what is it?" Sylvie asks after.
"I was wondering if you'd heard anything about the last piece of the Wheel yet." Moore says, simply.
Sylvie shakes her head but glances to the side.
"...they're working on it. It's proving more difficult than they anticipated," she says, "They're actually asking for a favor. Apparently Grumbar's still worked up over the entire thing. I'll be back, hold on."
"If we need to offer something in exchange, we can." Moore says.
Actually...
"If it comes to it, let me know. I think I know someone who can help." He says.
A moment's smile as Sylvie is gone and...

She soon returns. "That's dealt with," She says, "From the way they say it, I suspect Grumbar's being more active in this matter than he usually is."
"I wonder if Yan-C-Bin has something to do with it." Moore says. "Or perhaps even Akadi..." A shake of his head. "Either way, if I need to do anything, especially to help them out, let me know."
"I will," Sylvie promises.
Moore nods.
The only other thing was to go to Solomori Peak, really.

Okay then, who is going and any prep for it?
Whoever wants to. Ostensibly this is to help them get a bit stronger so ideally everyone, but we can also just go as a group of two or something, or three.
If it's two, Moore and Kaja, if three let's bring Moore, Cresiel and Kaja, unless one of the others would like to go.
Are you capable of running them in combat yet?
I think I can handle Kaja, though there may admittedly be a few hiccups. In his case it may just be 'can this be done?' types.
That's fine, we'll roll with those three. Okay then, prep?
We'll hit the Blessing Stone, but it isn't very charitable to go somewhere super buffed if we don't know what the rules for where we're going are!
So basically just the Blessing Stone.
Solomori peaks is a sharp, rising mountain amid the mountains that make up Celestia. It rises towards the clouds above, yet not as high as the light above. There is a single path that leads up this mountain, a steep and dangerous path, but a path nonetheless.
It would assuredly be a dangerous path for anyone to walk, but none of them need to do that, so they just fly along it, close to the ground out of respect nonetheless.
You go to float above it - and you feel a gentle force push against you, trying to check your progress.
"It seems it wishes to be challenged on its own merits," Cresiel notes, landing down. "The rebuke is taken in wisdom."
"The design of the one in charge here, I wonder?" Moore asks aloud, not expecting much of an answer. Regardless, he soldiers on and forward - albeit slower since he has to walk now!
The path winds around and into a cavern. A radiant white-gray light comes from within, the path itself a stairway that rises upwards and out of immediate sight. It's also much warmer here, heat radiating outward.
"I wonder how long it's been since anyone came through here." He wonders aloud as he follows the path. "Huh, they like it warmer than the bottom of the Mountain."
Kaja sniffs once, twice, thrice.
"Platinum," he says slowly. "So much platinum!"
"Huh." Moore says as he proceeds along. "I wonder how it connects with this place."
"It's said that veins of molten platinum flow through these mountains," Cresiel says, "But you've had your own adventures in Celestia's caverns before."
"I've had quite a few adventures inside." Moore says agreeably. "I think I remember seeing what you're talking about too some time ago." He says as they continue along. "Well, no... I think that was gold, now that I think about it, but what Moradin's folks do here is always impressive. Hm, I wonder if that means He's the one who..." He trails off, deciding to find out for himself once they get there.
"A dragon's dream, but any dragon who makes it here should be beyond that," Kaja observes thoughtfully. "To possess, one must not desire."
"Desire by itself is not wrong. Desire for gold to save an orphanage is no sin," Cresiel reflects, "Motive and the strengths and weaknesses of the heart are vital."
"It's all about perspective." Moore says with a nod. "Dragons themselves can be seen in many lights, but I think a lot of people see them as greedy for their hoards in general."
"Greed, hungry, lustful," Kaja admits, "For all their chase of perfection, many dragons embody sins, not virtues."
Moore nods. "I wonder if that was Io's wish that they overcome those sins and make them into virtues." He says as they go along.
You walk up the stairs. The light from above grows brighter, as does the heat, as...
Do all of you have resistance/immunity to fire?
Moore and Kaja are, I'm not sure on Cresiel. I think he was immune to acid and cold from being a Solar, but I don't see any added divine immunity to elements for him. If he's not then he has resist fire 20.
The heat is intense but bearable. You go up into a larger passage, and rivers of molten platinum run alongside the walls. They shed everything in a bright light as you see the passage ahead comes to a stone altar.
Moore takes a look around as he approaches the altar. He assumes he won't see anything magically, but will take a look anyway!
Spellcraft of 114, K:A of 119, Arcane Sight for the altar.
There is magic. Touch the altar and a passage will appear, as well as sending out alarms to places deeper within.
"This looks like it starts the whole process." Moore says. "Should we cast some protections now, or just continue on?"
"It's a test, not an ordeal," Cresiel reasons, "Let's start as we are, in case we're that much superior to it."
"If Raziel said this place was a challenge, then I have a feeling we are." Moore says, but he smiles as he touches the altar nonetheless. "But we can always do it in battle anyway." He adds as he waits for the passage to appear.
He's going to take 10 on Spellcraft to identify the caster of the magic on the altar if possible. Entirely mild curiosity on his part.
The casters are Raziel and Sealtiel, in case that matters.
Moore just smiles as he will proceed to whatever this passage will be.
Give me a Perception check ahead of time? Have to run the dog out so I'll just do this now while I'm doing that, and you get a longer post next time.
Take 10 for 97.
Ahead a passage opens up. You notice a faint shimmer over the doorway - magic. Your arcane lore lets you know that's to prevent backtracking. A force wall will come up once you're all past it and seal this escape route entirely.
Not that this stops Cresiel, who is already going forward.
Moore proceeds as well! They're in no real danger here.
You walk down the halls, little rivers of molten platinum on either side of you.
Ahead is a circular room, and save for a little walkway into and out of it on the other side, is ringed with a moat of bubbling platinum. Here stands a...hound archon? One who wears a loincloth and bracers, little else. He inclines his canine head, that of a pointy eared, black furred hound, and announces, "The honor is mine, but the challenge is yours."
Moore offers a nod of his own. "Can you explain what you mean please by challenge?"
Kaja steps forward, "A fight? You're underarmed for it."
"I have all I need," The hound archon declares, "If you think otherwise, here I am. I challenge your group to martial combat. No magic, merely steel, fist and skill."
"How about bardic song?" Moore asks. "I assume no, but I want to make sure I follow your rules."
"None of that," The hound archon says, arms crossed. "Do you accept?"
"Very well." Moore says. "This will be up to the two of you, then, but I'll do what I can." He adds.
At this the hound archon beckons all of you forward and - !

Go.
Moore considers his options and decides to simply wait for right now, as his martial skill is not terribly high.
A divine blast would probably not be fair, so he's just holding.
Cresiel approaches, cautiously, but the warrior is stunningly fast. At 20ft away his hand lashes out in a chop, as if merely gesturing, but...
> roll 1d20+70
<Penuche> Kotono invokes Penuche's magic: < 79 > [d20=9]
Which, predictably, does nothing. Cresiel doesn't even slow his steady approach, until he places the tip of Frozen Oath against the archon's throat.
A long few seconds, as the two meet eye to eye.
"That's usually works," The archon admits ruefully, "But I usually don't face divinity."
Cresiel inclines his head forward. Acknowledgement. "A warrior's own confidence and ego turned against them, an assault that you counter and send them into the platinum?"
A rough, almost growl-like sound, somewhere between amusement and agreement. "And their companions have to help rescue them while they fend off my assault to send them all in. If they can't even overcome this trial, they're not ready to go further."
"Isn't the platinum lethal to many?" Kaja asks at this, as he glances over at the boiling metal, the air thick with heat.
"You've had plenty of warning. If you come this far still vulnerable to heat, or at least not protected heavily against it, then it is a pointed lesson in common sense." The hound archon admits. "Few worthy heroes can take a defeat against a mere hound archon lightly. The better to pare away unworthy pride and replace it with humble determination."
Moore lets out a bit of a chuckle. "I think I understand. This is a lesson for both sides. Do you still wish for us to continue?" He asks.
The hound archon steps aside, "I'm only the first trial," he says, "Go forward."
Moore offers a bow. "Know that should you ever desire to visit, Hope's Landing welcomes you." He says as he proceeds forward!
A bow back to you, "You honor me."
Moore just smiles as they continue on, rather curious what 'rules' each fight will have going forward. Maybe one where only magic is allowed?
You walk on a little time. As you do, you notice that just after that chamber, there's a small recess with a book there. A book that is open to a particular page.
Everything is here for a reason, so Moore goes over to look at it!
Before he touches it, once in range for Arcane Sight, he will use that to check it out, though.
Take 10 on Spellcraft for 114, K:A for 119 just in case of spoopy traps on books.
If it's safe he will read it!
The only enchantments are ones to protect the book.
The book reads as follows:
The humble man has slain his pride and walks forward, unafraid. He acts with wisdom while fools brag, for he serves others while fools only serve themselves. The path higher comes to the humble man, while the prideful find the path lower.
Does a Knowledge check of 123 on K:R tell me if this is a meaningful passage in something larger?
Moore repeats the passage for the others and will move forward - perhaps it's a hint to the next challenge in some capacity.
Yes, it's fairly standard scripture from Celestia.
"It seems interesting that someone who would make it here would need to be reminded of that particular passage." Moore says. "But if this is truly some sort of place to train, perhaps it's to remind you of where you started on your journey."
"You don't learn by reading scripture only once," Cresiel agrees, "You learn your lessons, you grow from them, you read them again and again and again. Just as a man does not only drink water once, but he drinks water every day to grow healthy and strong. Wisdom fortifies and is the sweetest fruit, and our souls are always in need of more wisdom."
Kaja follows along, "In other words, we make mistakes and need to be reminded of which way to go?"
"In shorter words," Cresiel agrees to that.
"I have a feeling it's a lesson that will be appropriate to our next challenge." Moore says as they proceed.
You step into the next chamber. Here, amid gentle rivers of molten platinum that cross the room, is a bell. It hangs from the ceiling and has a rope to ring it. A mere lantern archon floats by it, who perks up when you enter.
"Hello, hello, hello! It's such an honor to meet you," It cries, "All you have to do here is to hop over the rivers and come ring this bell. Do you think you can do that?"
"A humble man has slain his pride and walks forward, hm?" Moore says to the others.
He shakes his head. "Do we need only ring the bell?" He asks across to the lantern archon.
"That's right," The archons ays, "To come here and pull it."
"Not a hard task on the surface," Kaja agrees, "But there's a trick to it?"
Moore flutters down to the ground and begins to walk forward - through the molten platinum if he sinks into it.
A prideful man would use skill to cross over, wouldn't they?
He is technically immune to fire.
Uh, give me a strength check then, Moore.

Being immune to heat helps, but you still very slowly sink into the liquid. Nonetheless, raw strength lets you get through the first. Six more are ahead on your path, no matter how you divide it.
Cresiel watches, arms crossed.
Kaja chuckles suddenly, as molten platinum drips off you harmlessly and sizzles on the ground. "You're dripping wealth, Moore."
"So it would seem." Moore says.
Still, though, he forges ahead, walking the whole time.
Maybe he overthought this, but he's committed now, and should keep going.

In case it's necessary.
This time you step into the second river of molten platinum. Your foot sinks in and is stuck. You tug and pull, but no, the liquid metal is quite firmly pulling it down.
Does it feel like I'm sinking, or just stuck?
Sinking, slowly.
It would certainly be dangerous for those lesser, but for now he decides to sink and see what happens. Perhaps there's even a bell down there.
You sink into the platinum. It's quite warm as you'd expect and utterly suffocating. You get it up your nose, lining your nasal passages and altogether lethal - except you don't burn and you don't need to breathe.
Handy traits, that.
The fact that you're also unable to be poisoned is doubtlessly helpful, as your lore notes that excessive metal exposure can cause death.
Regardless of all of that and your near invincibility, you're unable to see anything with platinum over your eyes. You're sinking deeper ever so slowly, but with a distinct feeling of being pulled.
Via Afina's Perfect Vision Moore has Blindsight, I assume that helps in some capacity here? It goes to 200 ft.
I also assume, technically, his divine senses can 'see' for a mile around him?
For now, Moore will continue to be pulled. He's rather curious as to where this will take him!
I have a feeling I'm rather uniquely interpreting the spirit of this particular trial, you two.
It's a narrow tunnel of platinum that's heading downwards and outwards.
I...cannot argue with that.
You know me, I have my own unique interpretations of Celestia's various wisdoms.
There's no harm in following it, if he ends up getting spat out somewhere else then it's not a hugely long trek back either way.
Down and out you go - and you land, free of platinum, on sand.
Sand?
You look up and see the waves of Lunia nearby, as you lie on one of the many beaches at the base of Mount Celestia.
It would indeed seem like he interpreted this one the wrong way. Perhaps it was prideful of him? Hm. No, it wasn't prideful so much, at least to him...
Regardless, it's not a terribly difficult task for him to get back, though he certainly hopes his friends won't have to wait overlong for him.
That is, of course, if this is even really Lunia that he's on and it isn't another part of this trial.
On a glance it looks like Lunia to you.
How are you going back?
He will travel back to Solomori Peak and then walk back up the path, assuming nothing prevents him from doing so.
Definitely misinterpreted it. On my way back.
Meanwhile you walk back up. The hound archon just nods to you, then pauses, "You...managed to sink in, even after this trial?" An open mouthed stare. "How?" Then a blink, "Apologies, I didn't mean to offend you, divine one." A deep bow follows.
We await you.
A great laugh follows that bow. "No, I fell in of my own volition. I thought jumping across was the prideful part, not trying to walk across." He explains. He offers a wave of his hand as he continues on. "Don't let anyone overthink it!"
"I will not, your divinity," Is his answer as you go on and return. The lantern archon bobs in the air as it calls, "You're back so fast! As expected!"
Kaja turns, a big smile on his face. "Now what all of us are wondering is - did you keep any of the platinum?" His draconic features are bright with that smile, with amusement and mirth.
"I was not wondering that," Cresiel notes dispassionately.
"I've heard what values you could get at Aurora," Kaja banters, smiling all the while, "What just a little gold could get out of that pixie there. Tell me that it didn't cross your mind."
"Wealth is merely a means to an end," Cresiel declares, "One that the love of drags souls deep and low."
"I did not." Moore says with a beaming smile. "I have a feeling it keeps itself here regardless even if you tried to take some. Besides, in the grand scheme of things, we have all the wealth we need now with our station. Kaja, you can probably just create gold coins if you really wanted to."
A pause at that followed by a wave. "Hello again!" He calls across, then he looks at the others. "So, I was originally thinking that just walking through it made you 'humble', but I think I overthought it, since, well, that obviously failed."
"It seems so!" The lantern archon bobs in the air, "I really can't say anything more!"
"So what do you two think?" He asks. "Am I just overthinking it and I should make my way over there by jumping across like a normal person would? No flying?"
"I believe," Cresiel says, "That the scripture spoke of the previous challenge, not the challenge ahead. Reflection, not future advice."
Moore rubs his chin. "I suppose that makes sense too." He says with a nod. "A salient point to be made after a lesson to sum it up."
Either way, Moore goes over and looks across, intending to just jump across each platform as needed - no flying and no magic if not necessary.
Give me a acrobatics check.

Regardless, Moore will continue to take each one, careful as he goes.

Let's look for magic!

Not sure if you needed a check or just the level - but it's 37.
Nothing. You don't detect any magic at all.
Moore gestures, and while he certainly could do this the direct way, that isn't very fun at all.
Using alter reality to create some paint or something similar that he can lob at the wall - he's basically going to look for an opening in it by trying to 'see' what's invisible. If that's even possible, anyway.
It splatters against the wall, bright yellow paint against it. It looks to be a solid barrier.
Cresiel takes 10s.
Meanwhile Cresiel reaches you, "Moore, may I?"
"By all means." Moore says. "I know what can go through it, but I figured there was some trick to it, like going around another way. Or maybe just hitting the bell from here with magic."
"I suspect one answer is the same answer. When you sink in the platinum and can't get out, let your hand find a friend's hand," Cresiel notes, as he goes to lift you up. "...if I'm wrong, you may wish to brace yourself."
"By all means." He says as he will wait to see what happens!
Cresiel holds you up and presses you against the wall.
It doesn't give, and after several moments you're pulled back and put down.
"Oh, I see what you were thinking." Moore says.
Either way, they can't really spend forever thinking about this, so Moore gestures again and sends a Divine Blast at the wall in front of him.
Not sure if I need a roll for this since I probably can't miss with it anyway.
That does it, the wall gone and the paint tumbling to burn away in the platinum.
Moore will hop over, and, assuming there's nothing else impeding him, will whack the bell!
The bell is rang. "...good work?" The lantern archon says at last. "That wasn't what I expected!"
"Do you mind explaining what's supposed to happen?" He asks. "Is there a hole in the wall in the platinum, maybe? I figure there has to be a hole in it somewhere..."
"I'm...not supposed to unless you figure it out," The lantern archon says slowly.
Diplo check.
"Please?" Moore asks.
Take 10 for 136.
"Well...you're supposed to realize you can't do it alone, and when you stand at that final barrier, to ask me to ring it," The archon explains. "That you should strive as far as you can, but if you reach a barrier you can't overcome, that others can support you. But the barrier's supposed to be invincible! It can't be broken!"
"Ohh, I see." Moore says with a nod. "I get it, I suppose you did say 'ring the bell by any means.'" Moore adds. "Ah... well, don't worry about the wall, I'll ask them to fix it properly. Please forgive the... ah, mistake."
"Oh, don't apologize, I'll just...um....well, I can contact...the person who made this to fix it," he says, "I'm sure it won't be a problem."
"Please give Lord Raziel and Lord Sealtiel my personal apologies." He says. "You can tell them Moore did it, they'll probably understand." A smile and a bow. "Please, if you ever have time, come to Hope's Landing - I'm sure Grias would be more than happy to see another lantern archon with as much pep as you."
A gasp, "How did you know!?" he blurts out, "O-okay! I'll be honored to!"
Moore smiles and offers a bow. "I'm an ally of Celestia, I suppose is the basest reason. Thank you for your service to us." He says before he starts to continue on.
As you go, "Good moral lessons don't involve sinking into platinum," Kaja remarks, still smiling. "Lesson learned, Moore?"
"I was thinking so outside the box I left the box entirely and went to another plane of existence." Moore says as they go.
A loud laugh as you go, Kaja's mirth like the crackle of a hearthfire in winter. Ahead is another little recess with another book, if you care to read it.
It would be rude not to!
It reads as follows:
No one can walk the Holy Mountain for you.
No one walks the Holy Mountain alone.
From there, it's an image of a man, a traveler. He reaches up above, to which a shining, glorious hand reaches down to clasp his own.
"I see why you interpreted it your way." Moore says. "I was too esoteric, and you were too literal." He says with a hearty laugh. "I guess we both have more wisdom to learn, as we do every day."
Onward they go!
As you go you, "It may be best that this story does not reach the others." Cresiel agrees.
Moore snorts as a broad grin crosses his face. "Why, Cresiel, I've never known you to be so prideful." He says as he flies along. "We'll tell them if we finish all the trials."
Cresiel endures that with great fortitude.
Ahead is a sharp rise up a tunnel. It's very steep, you'd have to walk very carefully to ascend. On the wall nearby is an old, pitted and burnt metal tower shield.
"Well, the last time I guessed I got it completely wrong." Moore admits. "But my thinking is you use the shield and hold it forward as you go up."
"This one seems simple," Kaja says as Cresiel takes the shield. "Deception isn't the normal style of Celestia, but they'll let you try and fail until you grasp a lesson."
"It wouldn't feel right to pretty the shield up, though it's within our power." Moore says. "The humblest of things find a way to impress you."
"It's worked before. Trust it," Cresiel concurs, tapping the front of it.
Moore waves for Cresiel to go ahead with it. "I'll be right behind you." He says.
Cresiel takes the shield and advances. From above a great flow of molten platinum comes forth, boiling hot.
Cresiel stands there, shield up as they meet. He is able to stop it, but seems unable to progress. He grunts lowly, "It's...a very strong current of it," he manages.
"I wonder if this is meant of a test of endurance or faith, or if it's like the last one where you're supposed to find an alternative way around the problem." Moore says as he watches.
He taps his finger as he thinks about any relevant passages in Celestian faith that may have something to do with this.
Take 10 on K:R for 122. He's basically trying to think of 'what will the book probably say about it after this is over,' so he's thinking about passages related to either standing tall against all odds or finding a way around an impossible situation.
I am basically activating Hint Mode.

[12:13] <Penuche> Nephrite invokes Penuche's magic: < 25 > [d20=3]
You remember one snippet that seems relevant - a painted image, of a traveler pressing along, as unseen angels support his back and push him forward in times of adversity.
"Ah." Moore says with a snap of his fingers. "I think you were thinking of this passage earlier, Cresiel. Kaja, could you help?" He asks as he flies up to put his hands on Cresiel's back and start pushing him - or trying to push him - forward.
"I wonder what you're expected to do if you're alone, though... probably come back with friends." He says with a small chuckle afterwards.
Like this it's easy. A few pushes and he's able to move forward, stream pushed back and ultimately stopped. It's gone now as you stand at the top, a stairway going higher here.
"I admit a great curiosity as to the mechanics of this place behind the scenes. I suppose just put the shield down and it will likely return to where it needs to." Moore says as they proceed onward!
You proceed up the stairs. Past all of this is a larger cavern, and on each side is a little waterfall of molten platinum that forms an overflow. It slowly begins to fill the room, picking up speed as you see ahead.
A warrior stands here, in full, mountainous armor of pure metal, with a tower shield and a broadsword readied. Behind him is a shut door. As molten platinum floods in, "You wish to go higher?" he asks, a man's gruff voice.
"That is correct." Moore says, simply.
As platinum pours in, "Then you have to defeat me," he declares. "Can you?"
"There is not a doubt in my mind." Moore says simply, again.
In that case the choice is simple: Init.

That's it for his turn.

Well, let's give this a shot then and see if I do it right.

No, they don't combine.

What happens next is sheer, overwhelming violence. Blow after blow take the warrior down until he hits the ground hard. He doesn't get up after Kaja's swords finish, as a door on the far wall slides open.
That was rather anticlimactic.
"I... imagine he has some sort of special boon to heal him." Moore says as he begins to fly towards the door.
He stops, though, and casts a Heal spell on the man regardless, before he will go through the door. Hopefully it doesn't just close when he does that...
It doesn't as he slowly stirs.
Kaja hurries along as he notes, "He was good, just not good enough."
"Yes, but I imagine there's no real limit to how strong some of the people here are." Moore says as they proceed!
Another passage, another recess with a book, if you care to read.
He will read it!
It reads simply: You are strong, but are you mighty?
Moore blinks. "Is this an actual passage, or is someone just asking us?" He says aloud, showing it to Cresiel and Kaja.
"It's not a passage," Cresiel says, "Not in any of the scriptures I know."
"I didn't think so." Moore says.
He uses his divine will to simply write an answer on the page of the book.
'We are mighty when we are together.'
Your writing so appears, but nothing obviously happens from it.
Well, for now he will continue on!
Another path. This path ends in a waterfall of platinum, barring the way ahead unless you feel like rushing through a cascade of the stuff. It gathers in a deep pool to the sides, where little rivers along the walls cause it to flow down and ahead.
"The few times we've looked for secret passages behind waterfalls there's never been anything." Moore says. "But I wonder if we're supposed to forge ahead or just go up. It's not exactly difficult to pass through the platinum for us, though."
"There's a first time for everything," Kaja declares, going right through the platinum. "Here!"
Moore follows him through!
A cavern lies beyond the waterfall, with stairs going down.
"How inviting." Moore says as he proceeds on and downwards!
"...wait." Cresiel says, "Is it ever the right choice to descend when the point is to ascend the Holy Mountain?"
"Hm." Moore stops and turns around. "...No, I suppose we have been going up this whole time, haven't we?"
"The truth of Celestia is never hidden," Cresiel goes on, "It doesn't hide in the shadows, it doesn't cower from being found." Cresiel strides out, a gesture sending the platinum away from him, not daring to touch his flesh. "It always goes higher and always goes forward."
"Well that's not -exactly- true..." Moore says as he flies out and starts to go up the waterfall. "There's a lot of things I found inside the mountain and had to go down to find."
Cresiel merely flies up while Kaja chuckles. "Is there any point arguing with such pretty words, though?"
"The correct response is, 'As always, Moore, you're an exception to many rules.'" He says with a grin as he flies along.
Up you fly. Up the river of lava, to a platform aside it. On this is a stairway going up. Cresiel goes up it and onward.
As you do, you can smell smoke.
Moore wrinkles his nose as he goes along.
Another room. This one is devoid of molten platinum, but has a raised platform ahead. It rises up 10ft, a handful of steps leading up to it. Atop it floats a being of majesty and power. An archon of tome and throne hovers here, eyes closed. His armor is pristine and his features flawless. In one hand a greatsword is held, one that boils like the platinum that you have seen, and it bubbles as if liquid.
Well, they're certainly not asleep.
Moore will fly onward but stop a respectful distance away to wait to be acknolwedged.
Slowly the throne archon's eyes open. They are pure radiance, a sensation that would bowl a mere mortal over. For you it is nothing, not as you are now.
"Few pass this far into this ordeal," he intones, "I have waited here for more years than I can count. Tell me, have events moved so far that so many more now share in Celestia's rulership?"
"I would not presume to claim any authority over Celestia or have any rulership over it." Moore says with a small smile. "But the spirit of your question - yes, there are those who have risen to face the ongoing threats that exist within Creation. My name is Moore, this is Cresiel, and this is Kaja."
"I have long been nurtured by the energies of the Holy Mountain, with but one purpose: To challenge any who make it this far. I am the Sword of Tempering."
This statement gets Cresiel to nod, "A worthy and holy purpose. You have not once flickered in your duties."
"Those who come past me are strengthened by the ordeal," The throne archon concurs now, "Will you face me and be tested?"
"It wouldn't be right to turn down a challenge from the Mountain itself. We accept." Moore says.
The blade of boiling metal is raised high, "For ages I have grown in the power of this Mountain and been baptized in the light from above. I shall not fall, even to a god!"

"I don't think it to be hubris, my friend." Moore says with a smile. "You are strong beyond many I've fought. Should you be dismissed from this place, or wish to travel, please come to Hope's Landing and we can speak more."
The defeated archon lies there as his wounds mend. "I thank you for your generosity."
"I met a gnome a few weeks ago." Moore says with a smile. "I can't imagine being that lonely." A pat to his shoulder before he flies towards the new path!
"We're in trouble if we find a foe who is worthy to stop your swords," Cresiel observes.
"When I meet one, I'll make sure you know it." Kaja's retort is easy, "I'm sure one exists."
"Yes, please feel free to speak to us further." Moore says.
Perception for the next bit, Moore?
Take 10 for 97.
Ahead the path continues, up and around, a loose spiral. Your keen eyes let you spy that a hidden passage is built into the wall as you pass, a little passage that leads deeper in.
"What do you make of this?" Moore asks, gesturing at the hidden passage. "I mean, up seems the right answer, but..."
He peeks his head in the passage to see if it looks like it also leads up, or just further on.
The passage looks to lead up.
"I think it's a misdirection," Cresiel says at last, "A side path that leads from the truth."
"Overthinking it?" Moore says with a chuckle as he continues on and up. "Like, looking for things on the side rather than focusing on your main goal?"
"Perhaps," Cresiel agrees as you go up. "Are you ready in case -"
Spellcraft.
Take 10 for 114.
The way ahead is about to vanish, along with this passage. You can see the magic flare, senses skilled enough to give you long enough to react.
Just to be clear, the way up as well as the hidden passage?
Just the hidden passage.
"Aha, so that's the trick." Moore says as he pulls back and motions for Cresiel to get away as well.
The party pulls away as the passage is gone a second later - just in time.
"Lies kill," Cresiel observes, "A wise lesson in this."
"Mm, I think it may be just be a crystalized version of what you said - to not be distracted when you're seeking the truth in front of you, and to be mindful of things at all times." Moore says as he proceeds up.
You walk on. This leads to a walkway above a great lake of boiling platinum. Heat rises up in great waves, the walkway solid stone but with no railings. 50ft ahead, blocking the way forward, is a sleek and slender creature made of shining blue metal. It has no sexual features and is about as tall as Cresiel, but not nearly as broad.
"Curiouser and curiouser." Moore says as they approach.
He bows his head respectfully to the creature and waits to be addressed.
"Moore," The creature greets, "You cannot advance further. Return home."
"Do you mind telling me why?" Moore asks. "Is there just nothing beyond here? Or was it just not meant for us?"
"I mean that you will not overcome me," The figure says, "I will not fail in my duty."
"It isn't much of an adventure or a trial if we just go home as soon as someone or something says we should stop." Moore says. "What is your duty? To guard this place from any who would come this far?"
"Yes. If you will not leave," he warns and holds up a hand.
Moore turns to his allies.
We didn't make it this far to just leave, right? Even so... I didn't want to just challenge it without your consent.
Cresiel's answer is to ready his blade.
Kaja smiles back and just nods to you, ready to go.
Moore turns around. "Do you have a name that I may have the honor of knowing?" He asks.
"Quasar," He answers, "Call me Quasar."
Moore bows his head respectfully. "Very well, Quasar. We accept the challenge you are offering." He says simply.
Blue light radiates around the figure at your acceptance, as...!

Arcane Sight, Take 10 for Spellcraft for 114 - what spells are we dealing with and what's the Caster Level of them?
You don't have to list everything if it's got a billion spells, just need to know if there's any "GOTCHA!" spells like the last guy.
He has no spells on him at all.
"Let's show the pinnacle of the mountain what its custodians are capable of!" Moore shouts, empowering his allies even further than they've already been empowered!

Your song goes through undisturbed, despite an odd, high pitched sound as...

Before I do these rolls, I want to verify how Thousand Cuts works - Do I basically make 2 attacks for each swing? I.e. I'm not making "eight" attacks, so the rolls wouldn't be (as an example) +75/70/65/60/55/50/45/40, but instead be 75/75/70/70 (etc)?
You double the number of attacks you make, which means more rolls.
Right, that part I get - I am trying to understand if I roll it as if I'm making 8 attacks (so a descending of 5 over 8 rolls) like so:
roll 1d20+70
roll 1d20+65
...
roll 1d20+40
Or is it like this:
roll 2#1d20+70
roll 2#1d20+65
roll 2#1d20+60
roll 2#1d20+55
I am going to make the assumption that he hits and crits on all of these. If I need to go back and redo it I can.

Kaja's blade comes down - and there's a flash of lightning. Both him and Quasar are thrown back and down, plummeting into the platinum, splashing down into it.
"...I don't believe that was supposed to happen," Cresiel notes.
Those times where you're strong enough to make saves that weren't meant to be made.
"I'll... get Quasar?" Moore offers. "Can you get Kaja?"
Cresiel hops down, no hesitation in the least, diving for Kaja.
Moore flies down after Quasar, and will use his divine will to move the platinum out of the way if needed.
He's not sure if hostilities have technically ceased here or not, but it's the good thing to do, so he's doing it.
It's not hard to fish them out, between your powers and enhanced abilities. Both are returned to the walkway. Quasar looks about slowly, "How hard did you hit me?"
Kaja slowly rubs the side of his head, "How hard did you hit me?" he echos.
"Oh, is that how it works?" Moore asks. "Some sort of reciprocal power?"
A chuckle follows after that. "Well, somehow or another you're both safe and sound... perhaps the Holy Mountain intervened to ensure it." He says.
"I didn't think it was possible," Quasar says, "How strong are your swords?"
"...strong enough," Kaja finally says, as he rubs the side of his head. "I've been hit by balors with less power behind their blows."
"I think you were hit with the same power you used." Moore says to Kaja. "So however much damage it was... well, I'm glad you're both all right."
A smile after that as he gives Quasar some space. "I'm not quite sure where we go from here... is there even anything past you? It didn't seem like anyone had ever made it to the previous opponent at all, either." Moore says with a small smile. "Actually... what even are you, Quasar? The will of the Hebdomad that created this trial?"
"A golem of sorts," Is his answer, "Made from stones polished by Lord Sealtiel."
Moore nods. "Well, ah... did we technically succeed in the trial?" He asks.
"You did get me out of the way," Quasar says, "You may proceed."
"I offer you the same as the rest - you are welcome in Hope's Landing anytime you are allowed to leave." Moore says with a bow, before he proceeds onward!
This has certainly been an exercise, if nothing else. I think Lord Raziel may have wanted us to come here just to offer them some company, beyond the merits of this excursion.
Kaja nods and in your mind, 'Forever is a very long time.'
Everyone needs friends, or at least... someone to talk to. Moore says as he proceeds onwards, rather curious if there's even anything past Quasar at all.
There is, a passage with a flight of stairs going up and to the right. As you step on them, you can smell the breeze, fresh air.
Moore sniffs once before he continues.
Are they done? Perhaps so - but they did learn a bit after all.
You climb up the steps. Up and up until you step out into the light. You stand atop the peak of this particular mountain, the view to below breathtaking. Views of valleys, of lower mountains, of fog and lower layers yet. Yet as you stand here and take it in, you see that a simple book rests at your feet.
"I wonder if anyone's ever seen this view before besides the Hebdomad themselves." Moore says. He stands there for a few moments just marveling at the view before he kneels down to pick the book up and open it to its first page.
"It is magnificent," Cresiel remarks, as you pick up the book. When you do, you sense its power.
Libram of Holy Wisdom
This is a crystallized and concentrated miracle from the distant light of Chronias. When read by a lawful good character, they gain a permanent +1 bonus to Wisdom. Additionally they benefit from a +20 sacred bonus to Knowledge (Religion) checks.
Should a lawful good mortal read this tome, they are consumed by the glories within and instantly reform as a throne archon. A mortal who touches this book instantly knows what will happen should they read it. Regardless, this transformation allows the mortal to keep the memories of their mortal life.
"...Goodness." Moore says with a small smile. "This book could only be called a miracle in and of itself." He shows the others the book in the meantime. "I can't make any use of it myself... I wonder if we should hold onto it to share with someone."
"This is not meant for anyone but the most worthy," Cresiel says in a reverent tone, "We hold a miracle in our hands."
"It wouldn't seem right to just give to a mortal either, at least in my opinion." Moore says. "A mortal who was worthy of this book would probably become an archon in time anyway. Cresiel, honestly, you're probably the person that this book makes the most sense to be with, if you want my opinion. It'd be lost on me."
"I will ponder this," Cresiel says at last, "This is not a decision to make in haste."
Moore nods.
"Regardless, we challenged and defeated Solomori Peak, as we were asked to." He says with a smile. "Let's go home."
Fwoosh magic and return to Hope's Landing!
Congratulations. Any immediate next move?
Not particularly, there's nothing we aren't waiting for results for on right now, so there's no real new goals in mind.

That doesn't look like any text I've seen yet, who is that?
Also phone posting so sorry for any issues.
Hello.
Oh, looks like The Adversary? Do I know that he's actually a former member of Baator?
All good, figured you might be lost in errands.
Since you're phone posting and it's in the text color topic: The Adversary.
I have business with you.
Give me K:P since I don't think it's been mentioned to you IC. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

By all means, please elaborate.
Meet with me at the Nadir, when the 13th hour strikes.
And no you don't. It's just not really out there on checking my notes, Alicia just knows it from previous plot.

Very well.
Of course, it won't be alone and without some allies... he will go and report this to the others!

It's a name for Hades as well as some locations in it. Most notably it's the location of a skeletal crypt known to be used by powerful daemons to conduct private business.
They all listen before Sylvie says, "So a random invitation to a location that's dark and dangerous?"
"That's correct." Moore says. "I was thinking of asking Lord Barachiel for advice as well. We've no experience with The Adversary at all, so I'm curious what he wants."
"It's sudden and out of the blue," Cresiel intones, "He moves to his own plot we do not yet know."
"Which means caution's only sensible," Xandra says, "If you even answer the invitation at all. We have little to gain and much to lose from such a fiend."
"I'm not expecting much, but I think it makes more sense to hear it, regardless." Moore says. "I intend to bring Cresiel with me, and likely Kaja as well. I don't think it's possible to hide the divine from him... and probably not worth the hassle.
Hello, Moore? The situation in Fire grows dire, and there is a belief that Akil may be overthrown.
"Then move wisely," Sylvie says, then cracks her knuckles, "I'm coming too."
I'd say I was surprised, but I don't think you have to have any foresight to have expected this.
You and Seira will have our aid should you need it. Do you need us to do anything for now or just be prepared?
"I didn't think you'd want to reveal yourself, but that's fine." Moore says. "Also I've just been informed that Akil may be overthrown on Fire and have agreed to render our aid to Seira should they need it." He says.
For now, be prepared. We don't know who will overthrow him, but the Crimson Firebrand has been considered. If he still exists.
Akil is scared though, and more importantly, the devils don't seem to be inclined to help him.
"Even better," Xandra declares, "Evil will consume evil. Is it imminent?"
"Yes. It seems the devils don't intend to offer any aid either." Moore says.
Understood.
"Curious, after all that trouble they'll let their control there go?" Cresiel states, "It's a senseless move, unless they also control the replacement."
"Probably they do, or can otherwise maintain influence," Sylvie remarks.
Moore nods. "It's another matter to speak to Lord Barachiel about." He says.
Speaking of...
Lord Barachiel, do you have some time? I have a few matters to discuss.
'Yes. Speak frankly, Moore.'
'We received a request from The Adversary. He seemed to suggest he had something of note to share with us. I wasn't quite sure how to navigate that one. I have also been made aware there may be a coup soon on Akil bin Fareem's leadership.'
'The latter is unsurprising.' Barachiel responds, 'What else is known of it? For the rest, it sounds like a trap or something to serve fiendish ends. Did he not entice you in some way to come?'
'I don't know the specifics, only that Akil is scared and it seems that the devils won't be taking any steps to help his cause.' Moore says. 'I heard it from Lady Amaryl, so Lady Seira may have more details than I do. As for The Adversary... he only said he 'had business' with me, nothing more. It seemed like a situation where he was going to try and share something that was 'advantageous' to us but likely, as you suggest, would serve the daemons more than anything. He asked me to arrive in Nadir.'
Daemons. They're the NE ones he works with now, demons are CE.
It's an easy mistake to make. Just don't make it around a demon or a daemon.
'He seeks to manipulate you if not outright harm you,' Barachiel warns, 'It is folly to go to him on his terms and his conditions.'
Fixed, I knew there was something wrong there.
'I understand. Thank you for your wisdom.'
"Well?" Sylvie asks after several seconds.
"He thinks it's a trap." Moore says. "I... I don't know. I mean, I realize there are always going to people who are our enemies, but... if he wanted to trap us, or to harm us in some way, this... I guess it doesn't feel like they'd do it this way."
He turns to Xandra. "I'm sure your insight won't tell you much, do you have a gut feeling about this other than 'it's probably not a good idea'?" He asks.
"It's a trap," Xandra says without hesitation, "A daemon's word is always a trap of some manner, and all my insights scream at me that this would be a mistake."
"It may not look like a mistake, too," Sylvie points out, arms crossed. "That's the trouble with them. They can make a pile of dung look like diamonds."
"Hm... I suppose that's the insidious part, now we're talking about it, so if I just ignore it, there's the 'what ifs' of this whole situation." He says. "I do at least want to hear what it is he has business about... but I suppose there's no reason that can't simply be done... well, not personally. I'm half-tempted to see if you can just trick him into giving something up, Sylvie, by contacting him."
Sylvie arches one eyebrow up, "Hope the unexpected throws him off?"
"That and the fact that you're smarter than almost anyone I know," Jetina speaks up, "The way your mind moves is incomprehensible to me, it's so fast."
"Yeah, but..." Sylvie meets Jetina's gaze, "Being clever isn't the same as being wise. I'm smart, but I'm not nearly as wise. It's like a wand without a hand to guide it, otherwise."
"I think you've become a lot more wise since Aurora." Moore says with a smile. "I do agree with Jetina, though, I think you might be able to see something in his words that he doesn't realize gives away something. But, let's be realistic here - if we act with wisdom, then we just ignore this entirely and move on. We're trying to out-wit a daemon lord, which is a folly in and of itself... but I'm confident we have the skills to do it."
"It is folly, but..." Sylvie begins.
"Pride," Xandra speaks up here, giving Sylvie a severe look.
"Either leads to a fall or a triumph." Sylvie banters right back. "I'll do it, mostly because it may save us from doing some silly like going to the Nadir on his terms."
"I bet Zaphkiel has a great deal of pride for his son." Moore says, simply, with a small smile.
If we're making a show of this, then Moore's going to boost Sylvie's Wisdom and Intelligence by +16 with songs and pretty much hang out with her to give her skill check bonuses in case she needs those too.
How big a bonus to skills?

"Hmph." Sylvie finally says.
"Which means?" Kaja asks, scowling. "Speak."
"He's good and prepared, too," Sylvie says right away, "I did get an impression that he wasn't interested in me in the least, but in you instead. Whatever it is, you're the one who has his interest."
"Hm. Is it because he thinks I'm the lynchpin here?" Moore asks. "But even so..."
A shake of his head. "No, we'll get to the bottom of this. But if he's that prepared then I doubt it'll be easy to get anything out of him fairly."
"Which means it's still a bad idea to go meet him," Sylvie points out.
"Yes, don't worry." Moore says. "I'm not going to meet him in person, at least not where he's asked us to show up. But I'm curious... if he is interested in me..." A shake of his head. "Ah, I'm not any good at being dishonest, unfortunately... I can't feign disinterest if I really am interested, you know? But perhaps I can get something out of him or at least have him agree to meet us somewhere more neutral rather than Basically The Abyss."
"It's a start," Sylvie relents.
It is a start.
It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to you I've been advised to not only not come see you, but to ignore anything you have to say. You seem to have a bit of a history with this sort of approach.
Yet, here I am, still reaching out to you. I will meet with you, but I would hear what this business is you have with me first, or, if you do not wish to speak of it this way, why you wish to see me in person at all. I can think of a few reasons you'd need me to be there in person.
I have need of your talents, and you will find this usage of them profitable.
It's good they're not in person, because Moore can't hide his obvious confusion about this.
You know as well as I do that the type of profit you speak of is likely not one I'd be interested in. Times such as they are, I am willing to listen to this - so what details will you share with me like this? It will help me decide if I wish to pursue this or not.
I know there have been "neutral places" to have discussions before that have been set up, is Mechanus known for that sort of thing? Just trying to think of a place we could arrange a truly neutral meeting ground, since The Adversary is likely not willing (or able) to come parley in Celestia.
Mechanus could work.
An artifact requires the touch of a bard of your ability. In return, I offer you a great treasure that will greatly aid you. Is that profit enough?
How many stories have been written about such an offer that are lessons in greed and avarice, I wonder?
I will arrange for a meeting in Mechanus where this can be discussed in one day.
Moore takes in a breath (that he forgets sometimes he no longer needs to do) and shakes his head.
"He needs me because he needs a bard for an artifact he has. Probably to unlock its full potential." He explains. "He says he'd give us a 'great treasure' in return, which I'm sure is a farce." A sigh after that. "However... I want to look at what this artifact is - 'Better the daemon you know than the daemon you don't' - and... well, if there's something we can get from him for it... I think it's worth trying. Perhaps he can release a pantheon of souls from captivity that we can return them to safety here in Celestia, or... perhaps we can return some other artifact that was lost to him here."
A pause, since he already knows everyone is is glaring at him. "The way I look at this... If we don't do it, he'll find someone else to do it anyway, and we'll know less about this artifact that he has at all. Does that at least make some sense?"
"Some, but not a lot," Sylvie points out right away. "One, there's very few bards like you to take your place. Divine bards do not just appear. Two, better no daemons at all than any daemon you know, but needs must at least in Creation. Three, I'm certain he'll get the better end of it if you do what he wants, no matter what you demand, assuming it's something he's willing to grant."
Here Kaja cuts in, "Moore has a point. He approached Moore cold, and that means he has to be an option, or someone he thinks he can trick into it. But trick someone who is a known protege of the Hebdomad? No. Erathaol has an eye on you, and that alone would forestall many daemonic plots. Whatever this is, he wouldn't be able to offer anything minor for it. He'll have his angles, but that part has to be good enough bait to work."
Moore nods. "Yes, I expect that this won't be an even exchange from his perspective... but I think we can put him in a more difficult place, especially if we're one of the only options." He says. "I realize this may mar my reputation somewhat... but my goal here isn't to personally profit from this, but to profit Creation. Do you all support that endeavor?"
"Is this an honest vote or just your curiosity?" Sylvie asks right back.
"I would not ask if I don't want you to be honest." Moore says.
"Bad idea, he's trying too hard to tempt you," Sylvie says flatly.
"It is a bad idea," Cresiel agrees.
"The worst," Jetina says, "But it leaves the question of why you, and if this is a deeper plot."
He nods to all of them after their feedback.
"I understand the concerns. I also agree with the fact that there has to be more to this we aren't seeing, and how we approach it. Like I said earlier, I don't think it's better for us to ignore this... perhaps we're playing into his hands by overthinking this at all, but I agree that there's more to this... but I suppose the ultimate question is: Do we pursue it to try and find the truth? My opinion is that we do, while staying vigilant of the shadows and deception here."
Quick question since I need to know: Are you actively trying to convince them, to the point of using Diplomacy?
That's honestly hard to say, he's just being honest with how he wants to proceed. I would lean more towards yes that he's trying to convince them.
"I'm against it," Xandra says, "It's too much of a trap."
"Do you think you can find the truth against a daemon lord?" Cresiel asks back.
Moore bows his head. "I do think I'm uniquely qualified to see through them." He says, quietly. "But... well. How about this - I agree to meet him in Mechanus and bring Sylvie along. We can at least find out the specifics of what he wants and what he'd be offering. We don't have to agree to do anything, but I think this at least gets some information for us. There's no worry of being trapped in the lies if we don't actually agree to any terms."
"It's better than going to the Nadir," Cresiel admits.
"Good enough that I can keep an eye on him. You owe me my next time up on the Moore watch, though," Sylvie adds, "That fine, Cresiel?"
Cresiel's answer is a nod.
"I wonder if we should invite Miss Antenora along. What do you think?" Moore asks. "I think it might put him in a rather interesting position."
"It's..." Sylvie muses, "Well, it can't make things any worse."
"The worst is he just leaves and we have our answer." Moore says.
Hello, Antenora. I hope I am not catching you at a bad time - I have a favor to ask of you regarding The Adversary.
Go on.
He has an artifact that apparently only someone with a bardic touch can unlock. He's promised some sort of 'great gift' in return for help. Trust me, we're not believing it at all.
I wanted to invite you to a meeting with him tomorrow in Mechanus - I want to see it for myself so we at least know what kind of tool or weapon he may have at his disposal and see if we can turn the tables a little on his plans.
I see.
Please wait a short while, events occupy me. I will be in touch as swiftly as possible.
Please take your time, you are welcome to come visit when you are able.
"Something's going on over in Sylica, or so I guess, Antenora will be over soon and we can discuss the matter further." Moore says. "But for now I think we have a good plan to go with."
"For now," Sylvie reflects, "How can we make it better? We have enough of a show of force, that's not a problem at least."
Moore rubs his chin. "We should probably give some consideration to what we could get out of The Adversary to begin with? If this artifact is... strong enough that he's willing to come to someone completely aligned differently than he is, then it must be potentially very strong." Moore says.
He hums once. "Or... maybe... is it possible that he actually can't figure out how to utilize it at all, but just knows someone with bardic aptitude can?" He says.
"It's best to assume he may know a varying amount," Sylvie agrees, "For my gold, I suspect he knows almost everything. He wouldn't make this move unless he holds all the cards."
"Probably," Jetina says, "Fiends tend to think like that and daemons in particular."
"So then what's this about?" Moore asks. "He has some artifact but needs a bard to unlock it... so whatever it can do must be of some significance to him, right?" He says, tapping his chin. "Hm... but... actually, that doesn't make a lot of sense... I mean, you have to know how to use a wand, right? So... I question what it is that a bard could do with this item that would still give it value after the fact."
"Something attuned to a bard?" Cresiel suggests, "It's the logical answer."
"Or in some way sealed by one," Sylvie points out, "Don't rule out a particularly ironic or inventive curse."
Moore nods. "Yes, that makes sense, it's probably something that needs to be unlocked by a bardic talent in some way - or perhaps something that's inert now and once it's 'on' it just works again." He says with a nod. "With that in mind... well, it's still interesting to consider what other options The Adversary had... or didn't have. I think we can rule out anyone in Arborea or Brightwater who would've offered their aid to him..."
He taps his chin again. "Or should we consider the possibility that this artifact belongs to someone else who has the same talent as I do, and... he -couldn't- ask someone else?"
"It's not impossible," Sylvie remarks, "There's very few who fit that bill, however."
"Right, Lliira, and... well, I'm sure there are a few others." Moore says. "I wonder if we should put a few feelers out and see if we can pinpoint what the artifact is? Does that even help us much if we know what it is?"
"Knowledge always helps," Sylvie's response is instant, "Better than going in blind."
Moore nods. "I'll work on it. In the meantime, what else can we think of that may be of some help?" He asks.
I'm not sure what an appropriate check would be here, K:R? Basically - 'who are other deities notable for having bardic talent'? It's sort of an OOC question but I hope it's allowable!
K:R sure.
Take 10 for 122.
Lliira is the big one, though a few others have some skill here.
Selune has a little bit, but she's not a great talent.
Morwel and her consorts always have bardic ability.
Oghma is a bard of great skill as well.
We can either handwave him asking or I can do it official-like to each one, your call.
We'll mostly handwave, but which order are you doing them in?
Lliira, Oghma, Selune, Morwel. If any of them suggest someone on the way we'll stop the order and go with any that are given to us.
Go ahead and give me a summary of how you're phrasing this and asking them? I don't need a ton, just enough to hang a hat on.
'Are you aware of any artifact you may have created that needs a bard or bardic talent to activate, or any artifact that may have been sealed by you that requires bardic talent to unlock?'
Several. Why?
Oghma's voice is heard in response to your question.
I've been contacted by The Adversary in regards to aiding him with an artifact. I don't have any details as to what it is, nor do I fully trust him or whatever he'd be willing to offer.
I had intended to still meet him to analyze the item in question, so that if I could find out more. If it ultimately belongs to you I can certainly let you know which one it is.
The new Oinoloth, eh?
Does he want anything else?
So far, he's only asked for assistance with the artifact. I expect there's more to it, hence gathering some more information before we meet with him.
It's possible he has the Lyre of Dandrens. Have you ever held a Lyre of Building?
I actually keep one on me at all times.
Imagine one of those, but for ideas and knowledge.
Is it one that needs a bard to constantly activate?
Yes.
Hmm... I wonder... do you think if someone of The Adversary's skill could use it to 'give themselves' the knowledge of activating it without that? It seems like it must be something that he needs unlocked only once, if that makes sense.
No. I thought of that idea when I created it.
Hmm... It's possible - it feels like whatever this is that he has needs to only be unlocked once, if that makes sense. But it's also possible that he just wants this item for one specific thing and doesn't care about it afterwards.
There's no response, at least to that.
If it is the Lyre, I will inform you.
A sense of good fortune from that, but no more words.
Any other hits with the list?
No.
"Hm, it may be one of Oghma's - the Lyre of Dandrens." Moore says. "But we can't be certain."
As you all ponder this?
I'm ready. Explain the situation.
The Adversary originally contacted and basically said he had need of my services. It turns out he has an artifact that we think needs a bardic talent to unlock or use. I spoke to Oghma about it just now and it may be one of his.
I was hoping you might be willing to come to the meeting I have in Mechanus with him... I want to try and get as much information out of him as I can over this, even if we don't end up helping him at all - which we likely won't - and I thought your talent with the truth might help us see through his deception.
If you'd like to come to Hope's Landing to further discuss this you're welcome to do so.
I will be there presently.
Moore will go wait by the gates for her!
Antenora soon arrives, "Moore," she greets.
Moore offers her a smile and a nod as he returns her to where the others are.
"So, let me explain first what happened - out of nowhere The Adversary reached out to me." He explains. "He initially wanted to meet me on Nadir... and, admittedly, I was willing to go there -" He holds a hand up at that. "You don't need to chastise me about that, I've already been through it with Lord Barachiel and the others." He clears his throat.
"I was able to get more information out of him - he says he has an artifact that requires a bardic talent... and he'd be willing to offer some sort of 'great reward' for assistance with it." He says. "We all know there's more to this situation than meets the eye - but I'm determined to collect more information rather than just ignore him entirely. I think it best to have the meeting to see this artifact - if even just to know what he may have at his disposal now."
A gesture to the others. "We've been trying to think of what the artifact might be, as generally speaking you can't just 'activate' something once that requires a special talent and it continue to work forever. The closest thing we have is the Lyre of Dandrens which is apparently like a Lyre of Building, except with ideas and knowledge - but even something like that can't just be used forever without activating it again. ...Ah, I guess it doesn't matter in the end -what- the artifact is, but that's the situation as it stands."
Antenora takes that all in. She's quiet until you finish. "Are you aware that Sylica recently clashed with one of the schemes of the Adversary, and that despite all our ability and wisdom, he still profited greatly from it? He is no fool."
"I was not aware, no." Moore says. "Regardless, I do not believe it to be in our best interests to simply ignore him. Perhaps that's his entire plan - to entice us, to see what we can do for him, even if it's just a matter of gathering information as well on his end." He says.
A shake of his head follows that. "But we cannot simply give up and not try to think ahead, to think around of his scheming. Perhaps this is exactly playing into his hands - perhaps he wants us to do all of this... but I refuse to be held hostage by 'maybes' and 'perhaps' - if we have an opportunity to do good in Creation, then we should take that opportunity. I'm sure Seira would say the same about the Abolition War." He says.
"Nothing good comes of him," Antenora notes as she follows you inside. "To deal with him may be necessary, it may be unavoidable. That does not mean good will come of it, no matter how high your hopes are. Our only victory in dealing with him was one that would have been dealt with by the Adversary regardless, for he doubtless had no more need for Violet being free than we did."
Going further, and in your mind?
His name is Sammael, a long forgotten archdevil who has defected to the daemons entirely over the course of countless millenia. He is hate, he is poison. Do not forget it at any moment or you may yet drown in his plans.
I will save or destroy him one day, but that day is not today.
Moore raises his eyebrows at that, but merely nods to Antenora as they settle in with the other members.
"I understand your concerns, and I am well aware that, even should we offer him this aid, there may be nothing in Creation that he could offer that would be worth it." Moore says. "Even knowing that... I think it worth it to take the opportunity, but any suggestions you have as to approach it are welcome. I was going to meet him in Mechanus with Sylvie there - if you would also attend it may give us an opportunity he isn't expecting. Or... well, maybe he is expecting you to show up... I cannot say." He says. "But we haven't agreed to help him at all, merely to listen to what he has to say and his offer."
"If you're set on going?" Antenora asks.
"He is," Sylvie says, "Against advice, but here we are."
"Then I'll go with you to safeguard you," Antenora agrees, "As well as to send a message. You do not stand alone."
Moore nods. "That was my intent - that he understands that in spite of his schemes we all grow together." He says. "We can prepare for this meeting as well - I'll bolster all of us prior to it... perhaps he'd think that weakness, perhaps he's expecting it - but as much as he may think we're simply playing into his hands, the light of hope won't fall victim. Is there anything else you think we should do prior to this in anticipation?"
"What sort of preparations?" Antenora asks back, "How will you bolster us?"
"I can bolster all of our strengths and the force of will we have with my songs." Moore says. "They should all last long enough for this discussion. I can also bolster our ability of diplomacy and intimidation, though I'm sure the latter has no effect on him." Moore says. "I don't know what other preparations to take, unless we want to all agree on a goal for this meeting with him so we're prepared on how to approach the situation."
"For as long as those last," Antenora says, "It would be child's play for him to have us wait long enough for any bard's magic to crumble."
"Yes, it's entirely possible." Moore says. "It's worth trying, at any rate. If I need to, I can maintain them until he decides to show himself, either way. Beyond that, I don't know if there's anything else to try."
"Merely be ready then," Antenora says, as...
Okay, I'm going to ask for your prep plans here.
We'll ask for a secure place on Mechanus to have the meeting, then send a specific time to The Adversary to go there.
Prior to the meeting, we'll throw up as many various buffs as we can (I can record them all, don't worry) as well as bard songs to various things.
Sounds good then. Welcome to level 37, enjoy your stay. We'll start with this after downtime.
