Just as a heads-up topic, as I'm going to try to do what cleaning up I can on the board as I settle into my new job.
- Fixed some missing topic titles in the ECB forum. If there are any others around, let me know.
- Repaired a code error when editing posts, and changed posting code to show who the last person was that edited a post.
- Repaired old posts; all >/</"/& HTML characters have been changed back to >/</"/& characters.
- Attachments SHOULD now be working for everyone. If you have any problems with this, let me know.
If you spot anything else that needs fixing, post away and let me know.
The smileys have been axed, by request of our Kind Fearless Leader.
Wow, a non-GameFAQs board without smilies. Don't see too many of those.
Can't say I'm disappointed. Huzzah for a lack of smileys.
They've been turned off since the board was started. Just the little images on the side were left on due to...certain issues >_>;
Dracos
Those issues being me - I didn't nuke them because I both forgot and was slack at different times. :p

I...generally agree, actually, but I've always been more of a fan of ASCII smilies anyway, so I'm not really one to comment >_>
<_<

Well, there could be a possible bias towards those. But regardless, this isn't a place for dozens of graphical smileys all over the place. We try and run graphic light in the posts to provide the easiest access to everyone and the most pleasant forum going experience.

Who's all into the sociology of forums.

Amen, Brother.
Hal, you rock. These changes are awesome.
Rez, give yourself some time off to relax soon. :p
Okay, kind of a big one this time. Did some overhauling in general, and here are the results.
- The board is running from a fresh install of phpBB, so hopefully some of the nagging little errors here and there are gone (like times a post was edited).
- Two new skins for the board have been added: BBLite and BBTech. I'm tentatively working on a third, but that one may take a bit more time to get operational.
- Draft posts are in place. If you have a long post to type up and not enough time to finish it at once, mark it as a draft. You'll leave a placeholder in the topic showing that you're writing a post, and the post can be edited and completed from your profile page.
- Avatars and signatures can be disabled at will. Check your profile page; just check off the options for whichever you prefer and you can skip having to look at them.
There may be more to come; keep an eye on this topic for any further updates!
Are we going to be able to change our titles again any time soon? I set mine when we had the option before and while it fits, it would be nice to change it at will again.
Should be able to do it now, actually. Go to your profile page and look at the box just above 'Signature' - it should be Custom Rank. Change that, and you change the bolded rank below your name. The other one is based on posts, though, so you can't change that one yourself.

I dunno about the rest of you, but the box just above Signature on my profile page is Interests, not Custom Rank.
This should be fixed now, at least for IY-chan. You'll need at least 100 posts to be able to set a custom title for yourself.
Woooo! Check me out! XD
Thanks Hal. ^_^

I am curious about the banner, then, since it randomly rotates between about six images now (some of which are 45k-90k). Smilies, on the other hand, range from 0.17 KB to 0.63 KB, thus loading up the standard 20 phpBB smilies is about 4 KB...1/20 the size of the banner....
In Theory, yes. In practice, however (at least with me), the banners tend to load immediately for me, but the smiley list tends to take a great deal longer to load completely (typically around 10 seconds or so).
Maybe it's just me, or it's possible that the way the smiley list is coded it takes longer for it to load, or something.
It's the number of files loading on the computer at once, I believe. With the smiley panel, you're downloading 20 (admittedly small) gifs, but trying to do so simultaneously, which slows down the page load time. Or at least that's how I'd imagine it works.
And another upgrade in the bag. You may notice that profile pages look a bit different now; a new profile control panel mod has been installed. If you're so inclined, you can add more personal data (and I highly recommend that everyone set their timezone accurately at the very least, so we can get a better idea of where in the world everyone is located). You can ignore the new update if you don't really care, but hopefully this will let us know a bit more about the other folks who post here.
Uh, call me crazy, but I can't find an option to set my timezone. It has an option to set whether we have daylight savings time or not, but I can't see an actual GMT offset option. Oh, and "Web Informations" sounds very engrish.
Corrected, aside from the spelling.

I meant inside the post in general. In sigs, avatars, embeded images, smilies, we tend to keep it down rather than have a very fancy setup.
Dracos
I would hereby like to present my WHOLEHEARTED agreement with the minimalist signature approach - on other forums, you end up waiting seven hours for a page to load, and once that's done, you still have to scroll past endless pages of huge pictures.
So yes, I think we should keep sigs as they are.

Hmm...making a post to make sure I have the time zone correct.
If you go to the main page, it should display the time/date in the upper-left, right beneath the banner.
