Title: Biggest Losers in Anime
Post by: Olvelsper on May 30, 2005, 12:07:47 AM
In a fit of whimsy, I've decided to open this thread in hopes of sparking a conversation over who you think is the biggest loser in all of animedom. It doesn't matter how old school it is, but please explain give a reason why.

My nomination for biggest loser in anime is Washu's husband in the Tenchi Muyo OVAs. He was married to not only the greatest scientific mind in the universe, but a *goddess*, and the chump gets himself pulled away from all that.

While it was pretty much essential towards getting Washu to create Ryoko (and to kick off the storyline), my personal opinion is that I'd rather be dust in the wind than to be dragged off from all of that. :p

He's a contender, but at least he had enough going for him to marry her in the first place.

I'll nominate Seiryo (aka the Pinkhaired dude) also from Tenchi.  After talking big, he gets defeated by collateral damage before he actaully duels Tenchi.

Seems that's Seiryo's Achilles Heel no matter where he goes.

Doesn't some snot nosed earth kid beat him just be luck too? I guess when the big GM in the sky approved his character sheet, one of his disadvantages he had to take to be a Juraian noble was horrendously bad luck.

Brock from Pokemon.

He'll never get the girl. ^_^

I'm going to say Jin-Rai's older brother, from Giant Robo.

Talk about losing big-time!

Hikaru Gosunkugi from Ranma 1/2.  He's so pathetic that he's happy when Akane yells at him, because she's finally paying attention to him.  He finally works up the courage to personally attack Ranma after Ranma is so weak he can't hurt a preschooler and even then Gosunkugi waits until Kuno and Mousse have beaten up Ranma and then attacks from behind.

Kenshin Himura ^_^

Former Hitokiri Battousai, one of the best swordsmen in the entire series and probably all of Japan, turned into a male Sailor Moon-wannabe ^_^

Hey, I resent that. At least Sailor Moon had a harem by the end of the series. Kenshin didn't get that much. :p

Yeah, except he got a woman.  >_> So doesn't that sort of prevent total loserhood?

Kaoru's wearing the pants in the relationship, and he's stuck with housework.

For a bigger loser along the same theme, Battle Programmer Shirase. Former notorious child-hacker, known worldwide for his exploits, currently 20-some years old, working at a third-rate programming company and doing charity hacks for private contractors. He can't get a woman his own age, but engages in a strange psuedo-sexual relationship with his grand-niece Misao, who's in elementary school. Spends his free time collecting shitty computer hardware from the 80's and early 90's, visiting maid cafes, and browsing anime/manga/doujin shops.

I don't think Kenshin should count. After going through everything he did, he deserves the right to act like that. =p

And I've seem some REALLY big losers in some really bad animes....but I've since blocked them all from my memory.

(Mostly, I just can't think of anything right now)

Katsuhito Jinnai
He leads the buggrum
has the gorgeous bug girl falling all over him
has control of the ultimate weapon
and looses.

LOOSER!

He was going up against the power of WUV, though. :D

Katsuhito Jinnai isn't really such a loser. His only problem is that he loses focus whenever Mokoto is involved. Beyond that he is actually pretty effective as a villian.

Lirr: This candy is chalky and unplesant!
Lirr's Wife: and what is this 'Wuv'?
Lirr: Surely it says 'Love'
Lirr's Wife: No! It says 'Wuv', with an Earth 'W'
Lirr: This concept of 'Wuv' confuses and infuriates us!

*Gives Brian a cookie for the Futurama reference.

Hm. I can't really think of anyone I'd consider the biggest loser. There are just too many variables. If I say character X is a loser because he had so many suiters and didn't take advantage of it, I can usually find a character Y that was worse in that reguard, but was better in some other areas.

Brian - I think you've just won the award for best ridiculous Futurama throwaway gag.  That one ALWAYS makes me laugh.

And the loser? Everyone's favorite Junk Boy.

Who is Junk Boy you ask?  Aside from the knee jerk want to answer "Kwok", it might be:

"Ryohei Yamazaki is a cool twenty-three year old, with an extremely high sex drive. A smooth talker with lady-killing eyes and a winning smile, we follow him in his never ending search for the perfect woman. When Yamazaki catches the eye of the beautiful senior editor, Yuki, you know he's not just going far, he's going all the way.

He falls into a job at Potato Boy magazine that seems just made for him, but just how far can you get if your only hobby is looking at naked women?

Now he's aiming for the top, turning Potato Boy magazine into one hell of a publication. No-one expected things to get so hot so quickly, but Yamazaki knows what he wants and he knows how to get it. And he's not taking no for an answer."

He's right - but Junk Boy is quite the loser (for the most part), with a few rare moments he shines, so perhaps I should take him off the list.

Junk Boy is also (I think) the op song from Sorcerer Hunters.

Coincidentally, Carrot, a character from that anime is also quite a loser.
