Title: Site 'Video Games'
Post by: Dracos on August 31, 2005, 02:18:33 PM
We, up on the rafters, have been moderately discussing providing some on site video game entertainment for folks.  A sort of way to occupy the time while hanging out at the forum, have neat little forum video games, etc, easily.

We've got a few ideas on things we're going to put into place but we're curious as to any ideas you guys have.  Got some game you want to have here?  Like oh, scrabble?

We can see about making it happen.  Links to games that can be hosted are welcome.  Yes, scorched earth is likely for those who've already expressed interest.

For record, recommended games thus far:
Scorched Earth
Tetris
Scrabble
Pac man
Astroids
Monopoly
Chess
Poker
Go
worms? - Scorched earth pretty much covers this

Edited: Thanks hal.

Nobody has any opinions whatsoever on games they'd like?  I can't believe that.

Can we organize tournaments?  Amature writers abound here, we'll see some real displays of obscure words here!

And if we let Rez and Drac play, we'll get that times a billion!  What other games, folks?  I'm largely only interested in multiplayer; the games we can play with one-another.

Yes, that is part of the intent.  We'll also look into putting together a nifty stats system to keep track of all the fun information.

Ah ... okay.  I think we could go for, say, chess?  Backgammon ... not so much so.  Maybe a card-game, like poker to chat/play with multiple people?

I second chat/play card games.

Tossed 'em up.

If you have other names of games, put them out there.

If you have, even better, links to server code for such, post here =)

Scorched Earth doesn't have cute worms blowing the living shit out of each other ;p

This appears to have lots of stuff for server run games that are multiplayer.

Anyone see anything they like there?

In general.

And for poker, I would suggest no-limit texas hold' em.

Mmm. Hals cardbot is pretty good, though he claims it's not so good for running hold'em. If we could get a play-money game in, though, that'd be great- pokerstars is nice, but I'd also like a table with a little constancy, instead of people constantly coming and going.

Maybe we could even arrange some tournaments? I'm not sure what we could do for prizes, though...

And I un-suggest Texas Hold 'em.  It's overplayed and overrated ;p

Hrm...well, at the request of Drac, I'll put a blurb on this. Some of us have started playing Scrabble at www.games.com in the Spelling Bee room of Scrabble.

So if you want to play a game of that, feel free to challenge some of the other chatters to it. You can have 2-4 players per game, and an unlimited number of watchers. Currently people with gaming accounts:

Merc (Kayeich)
Ra-chan (musicchan)
Sunhawk (ChibiTatsu)
Panda (OnionSlime)
DannyCat (dannycat)
Baka-ken (bakaken)
Ragnar (RagnarIV)
Stormy (Arashii)
Dune (Dunefar)
Kwok (kwokinator)
Rat (I believe it was Carthrat?)
Netta (Naatz)
Liddo-kun (Liddo)

This has been at least temporarily delayed and shall remain so for the foreseeable future.   If you'd like to help with such a project, ring me, otherwise this'll stay pinned for general use but not go into practice anytime this year.

Are you guys still doing scrabble online? I'd certainly be interested in some more games. Or, to steal a quote, "who wants a hundred-tile whoop-ass?" :D

I know a fair number of folks are.  I'll get them to jot up a 'where to meet the scrabble game' bit.
