As someone that hasn't really seen anything about this series, I am nonetheless still provoked to ask; Is this serious just a thinly veiled facade for shoujo ai/yuri hijinks or is there anything to it?

Its a comedy/romance. The anime has been far more fanservicey than the same amount of time in the manga so far, though.

Yeah, I read it. You'll know by the end of the second episode if you want to continue watching it or not. This I am certain of.  >_>

Heh.

I'm downloading it now, so I'll find out! You make it sound so forboding, however.

Well having seen up to episode 5 now I think I can safely say that, for now at least, I consider the anime to be officially better than the manga. It's better paced, far more fleshed out, and just flows more naturally in comparison.

Yasuna's anime portrayal in particular is far and above superior to her manga counterpart. If there's one area above all others where the anime shines brightest it is the way her character is being handled. In the manga her feelings came off as rather shallow. Rejecting someone's heartfelt feelings and then suddenly, for whatever reason, deciding to return them out of the blue is simply pathetic.

In the anime though a lot of time is spent giving us a look into Yasuna's world, yes I know her "problem" is rather outlandish but I feel it falls into the "Just smile and nod." category, and a somewhat good idea of why she is the way she is. She doesn't just change her mind the next day simply because Hazumu is now the "right" sex for her. A lot of emotional turmoil had to be waded thru on her part and ultimately she still has things she needs to deal with.

In my opinion the path "Anime Yasuna" has ultimately taken is definitely on much firmer ground plotwise compared to "Manga Yasuna". Overall this has made "Anime Yasuna" a far more sympathetic as well as likeable character. Tomari is also going thru just as much turmoil as "Anime  Yasuna" is to be fair however I don't really have much to say about her at the moment since I don't really see all that much difference between  "Manga Tomari" and "Anime Tomari" from what I can tell.

Overall I think that I'd honestly like to see, unless she does something that would make her completely unworthy of Hazumu, Yasuna be the victor in the anime and Tomari end up the victor in the manga. I don't see anything particularly wrong with letting both sides have a victory persay. Besides "Anime Yasuna" deserves to win just for being so much better than her manga counterpart.

Sincerely,
Shuten

Well I've seen the final "on air" episode of this series and I'm not quite sure what to think. It leads you to believe that the shows heading down one path and then suddenly at the very end they throws a huge curveball. If the show was going to end in such a way I'd be pissed...

Thankfully there's a dvd only episode 13. Hopefully this will be one of the rare times where a dvd only episode of a tv series actually serves a purpose beyond simply being pointless filler.

Oh and for the record I've reached the point where I don't really mind if Hazumu ends up with either girl. While I do believe "Anime Yasuna" is more worthy of Hazumu than "Manga Yasuna" that doesn't mean I believe that she is any more worthy than Tomari. Oh and I believe manga/anime Tomari are equally worthy of anime/manga Hazumu. ^^;

Sincerely,
Shuten

Edit: After some more thought on the subject I've decided. Tomari deserves to win over Yasuna. I like "Anime Yasuna" and all but the nature of the victory, assuming the Yasuna Victory truly is the final one, feels more like a Pity Victory which is just pathetic in my not so humble opinion.

In closing Tomari for the WIN! @_@
