Title: Black Lagoon
Post by: Dracos on April 18, 2006, 06:35:09 PM
What, no thread on this?

Anyhow, Liddo poked me on this a couple days ago.  In my desire to not write documentation, it quickly rose into things to be done.  Anyhow, show starts up with a nifty opener, plenty of guns and all that fun stuff.

Then shifts into following a boring salaryman.

Who in turn is kidnapped and beat up.

At this point they've pretty much got me on board as they're doing it with a fair bit of style.  Then they pull in the business cartels versus the russian mafia.  Heck, they don't even introduce the main character's name for ten mins in...

So don't underestimate a Japanese salary-man.

Awesomeness. =D  This is just an awesome show start.

Watches again and hunts ep 2.

Mmm, no discussion on it?  I know like half the site is watching it =p

Anyhow, waiting on Ep 4.  Getting a bit 'wacky adventurish' but that's not entirely a bad thing.

^^ my thoughts exactly.  This is some pretty rocking stuff.  It feels vaguely reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop, except where Bebop felt contrived and didn't manage to hook me on the characters, Black Lagoon does so in spades.  Doesn't hurt my fanboyishness that Rock's old boss looks like Inspector Runge, is unmistakably voiced by the same actor, has the same sort of family life as Runge and was focused on after his role in the story looked to be over...

I really liked the couple of episodes following the nazi shtick.  Rock being badass indeed.

This show has made me cry with happiness.  A japanese guy standing up to, *gasp* a WOMAN!  It would have more impact if it were a harem anime, but eh, I'll take what I can get.  Plus it has killer spanish maids!  Who doesn't enjoy that? ^^

I'm enjoying this show, a bit too short for my tastes, but I heard something about a sequel?  It seems to have no central plot, just mini adventures, which I think is bad.  In a 12 ep show, SOMETHING needs to get resolved.  It also seems to revolve around certain characters, while  the rest don't get flesh out.  Rock seems to be evolving though, if slightly.  Go Go Japanese salarymen indeed.
