Today I set up a phone line for my house. Next stage is to try to get broadband for it. Once I have 'net at home, we can start negotiating a start of the game.
On an unrelated note: the OOC channel for this game is #confessional on irc.dejatoons.net.
Okay. I should have broadband on the 7th of August. My connection will (apparently) be unreliable for as much as 24 hours afterwards. Yay team.
BUT! I am brave and I am bold and I lack common sense, and as such I would like to tentatively schedule the first game for sometime on the weekend of Aug 11-13. You'll each have individual (and SEKRIT) introductory sessions; these should be quite short, so we can either do them on the first session or (ideally) get them out of the way first, sometime after my net is up.
I have broadband. Go me.
I would like to schedule the first session for this coming weekend. Between my schedule and Brian's, the only available time would be 11 AM California time, Saturday August 12th, running for about two hours. Unfortunately, this is 4 AM Sunday August 13th for Rez, so, uh, it might not suit.
If we can't get the group together this weekend, then over the next week or so, I'll try to get online with each of you individually to run your intro sessions at least. (I would have liked to do that before Saturday, but this is not going to work out.) Unfortunately, I'll be out of the country on the 19th-20th, so the next possible day for a game is 26-27th.
Let me know!
I . . . might actually be able to make that. But I can't promise how long I can stay awake once it starts!
I can give more information on Where My Sleep Schedule Is At closer to the date. Suffice to say I have nothing going on this weekend.
I have no problem with that timing. Might also be doing some SM gaming with Dune at the time, but that can be managed.
Quote from: "Rezantis"I . . . might actually be able to make that. But I can't promise how long I can stay awake once it starts!
No worries. We'll do your individual session first, and then if you fall asleep, then little harm done.
Session One is over and done. Hopefully I haven't lost all your interest already.
Now. Session Two. Unfortunately, this coming weekend (Aug. 19-20) I will be in Northern Ireland -- unless the travel situation stays misreable, I guess.
I'm up for doing a session during the week in theory, but I think this will be unworkable in practice -- it would have to be between 7 and midnight UTC. Unless Brian and Hal are available Monday (the 14th; I can't do the week after as I'll still be in Ireland) morning/afternoon (since that's the day I know Hal gets off), and Rez is available really early Tuesday morning, that's probably no-go.
Failing that. I guess we're looking at a session on Aug 26-27th. Vote now for your schedule preferences!
I might be free early tuesday morning, can you give me a time in AU time? :)
Monday is fine for me, as that's my usual day off.
Quote from: "Rezantis"I might be free early tuesday morning, can you give me a time in AU time? :)
We're talking the same time-frame as Session One.
My work-schedule just got locked down.... I close every night, which means working from 15:00 to 23:30 Monday-Wednesday, and 16:00 to 24:30 Friday, Saturday.
I'm off Thursday, but game (RL) in the evenings, and, uh, the same for Sunday mornings.
....
This tuesday works for me! :D
Though, I might be in another world that evening; we'll see. :p
Okay! Session two will be Monday, August 14th, 7:00 PM, London Time. This works out to:
Monday, August 14th, 11:00 AM, California Time
Monday, August 14th, 1:00 PM, Austin Time
Tuesday, August 15th, 4:00 AM, Melbourne Time (Rez, do I have the right timezone for you?
Coordinating games across three continents is hard. ;.;

You do have the right timezone. I -might- be able to make that but I can't promise, 4am is non-trivial. :)
It would appear that (understandably) Rez couldn't make the above time. How does the following sound to people?
Thursday, August 17th, 5-7PM, Los Angeles
Thursday, August 17th, 7-9PM, Houston
Friday, August 18th, 1-3AM, London
Friday, August 18th, 10AM-12PM, Crazy Upside Down Land
Friday I need to travel up Guildford way, but I can take a late start on that, so I can probably deal with a late night. If this doesn't work out, then I'm afraid we're stuck with our next game being on the 26th.
Sounds hokay by me.
Works for me!
Rez?
Sorry, I thought I told you over AIM. >< Might be getting confused. That's fine for me.
Awesome.
Well.
As awesome as getting up at 1 in the morning can be.
Scheduling. Game. This weekend. When?
Any time works for me.
Um, I may be busy saturday evening, may not be, will know closer to the time (odds on I won't be, I invited a friend over but he's -always- busy).
Closing Saturday (at 3:00 PM to sleepytime), and I have an appointment at 10:00 AM saturday with family -- until worktime. Sunday: Availible in the mornings. Evening (3:00 is on), gone to memorial for Sterling.
Updates.
Saturday: Busy after 2pm.
Sunday: Busy after 4-5pm.
Morning or early morning is possible either day.
Monday: available in the morning, noon onwards is out.
Okay. It looks like Brian is pretty much limited to Sunday morning, which is really early Monday morning for Rez. So the question now becomes: how early is Brian willing to get up, and how late is Rez willing to stay up?
I'm proposing the following (edited following to Brian's post):
Sunday, 8AM-11AM, California time
Sunday, 10AM-1PM, Texas time
Monday, 1AM-4AM, Former Prison Colony time
Sunday, 4-7PM, London time
Hopefully this is a compromise of misery between Rez and Brian. At this point, I think it's up to the two of you to hash it out.
Works for me! I can start an hour earlier, or end two hours later.
Okay. Let's try one hour earlier to be a little nicer to Rez, and game until he passes out. :D
Midnight? I can do that.
All right. We need to schedule our next IRC session. I am available all weekend. I could in principle also do tonight, or Friday night; probably not Thursday night. (Do your own timezone conversion, dammit.)
If you guys would prefer (and don't be afraid to speak up either way), I can finish the battle with the Hellhound by myself, running you as NPCs. Then I can post the results, and we can get a start on the idea of running the game on the forum as well.
To be brutally honest, I'm not terribly interested in the Hellhound battle. I don't believe I can contribute at this point in a meaningful way, and since the thing doesn't appear to be able to hurt Rez, I see the outcome as a pretty clear win on our part -- though, it might take some time. OTOH, if Rez and Hal want to play it out, I don't mind that, though I can't really do much IC; I've missed the thing three times (aside: are we using the rule that each subsequent attacker in the phase imposes a -2 penalty to DCV? If so, then I _really_ sucked at shooting) already, and don't have the in-combat utility of the other PCs yet. (Please don't take this as a complaint; I realize the flexibility and potential of my framework in due time.)
So, I'm largely ambivalent, but don't think it would be totally IC to offer my typical snarky comments on Iron Rez and Hal beating the crap out of a magmadog. I'm kinda shaken by OMG, pansy-powers means rabid-lavapup attack! business. This means all I've really got is to feel like I've wasted my ammo and do, uh, maybe some stun with my EB. (I'm not clear on using the -2 CV weather effect, since I think it's going to affect everyone. Maybe I can center it behind the hellhound, so only it's inside? Not sure if that still gives everyone else a +2 penalty to hit, which it probably will -- net effect, lengthening the fight.) That being said, I'm free after, oh, 8:00 AM local time (I don't know what that is, but conversion, it'd be the same time our last session was), until around, I'd guess, 3:00 PM if we want to do it then. I don't know when that is, either, but it'd be seven hours after the starting time I provided. I can't do math when it's 4:00 AM local time. x_x
Or we could just have some time to talk in IRC about our plans and figure out what the heck we do with our collective bad-selves. I'm not opposed to that at all, but if we _do_ fight, I'm mostly just going to hang out and try to make up funny deleted scenes until the fight's over. Which I don't mind. You are cool people to hang out with. :)
And at this point, Rez is pretty much fighting magmapup alone. I've already figured out that my chances of doing damage with the knife are just this side of negligible, and I'm running the risk of searing my own knuckles off if I keep at it anyway. For now, all I'll be doing is 'hold action - "gimme the sword!" ' until magmapup is dead.
That said, your usual evenings aren't workable at all this week - I won't be able to game until I get home from work, which is right around your normal bedtime. Entire weekend is free, though.

I wasn't using that rule, because I forgot about it. Mea culpa. If you think there should be a rule in play and think it might not be,
please bring it up -- we all know each other well enough to know there's no rules-lawyering going on, and I do forget things.
The reason I made this offer is that I get the impression that all of you feel pretty much the same way about this battle, and that doesn't seem like a good way to keep up interest in the game. If seeing a novelization of the fight followed by the chance to get on with things seems better to you, then I'm all for it, and I'll try to make the next battle more engaging.
I'll go with what the other guys do; I just generally hate being NPCed. >.>
And I will/would give Hal the sword in the interests of sanity, but it didn't and doesn't seem particularly IC for me to let go of the weapon and try to fight a hellhound with my bare hands, nigh invulnerable or no.

Well, keep in mind that's an optional rule. It's (IIRC) in the 'Heroic' subset, and NOT the superheroic one. The reasoning is, the more you dodge, the harder it gets to do at the same instant. You get all your DCV back the next phase, and to be sure that this doesn't render the third attack an auto-hit, remember that it cannot reduce the dog (or any other target's) DCV below 0.
That being said, hex-sized creatures, instead of offering a DCV penalty, automatically give their attackers a +2 bonus as well (and that's why it's an OCV bonus to the attacker, instead of a further penalty to their own DCV). 4-hex monsters give a +4, and each hex radius larger a creature gets gives a further +2 (not that I'm looking forward to fighting something that gives me +6 to hit it from size alone O_O).
I thought you knew that, and was thinking, "Man. With six points in my favor, I'm really sucking!" So if it was that, then ... well, maybe I don't suck so bad. Though now that I think about it, I'm going to need to double-check; I don't know for certain if melee attacks offer the penalty on subsequent
ranged attacks. I think that ranged attacks do incur the bonus on subsequent melee attacks, tho. Will come back with clarification later tonight.
Okay. We're going to finish the magmapup fight. Now. When?
Weekends are it for me right now - during the week will not be possible for the next week unless you feel like staying up until about 3 am.
Umm. I can potentially swing any given time, but my schedule is variable.
Suggest stuff and I'll see what I can do.
What about the same time as last week? All we really need to do on IRC is get through the magmapup fight, and that should be doable in two hours.
I hope.
Bjorn
I'm with Rez.
I can manage that.
I have failed it. I'm sorry, but this week has been murder on me; not getting home until 4:00 AM, I totally forgot to set my alarm for 8:00 AM to game, and as a result, didn't wake up until around 10:00 AM. -_-
On the bright side, I did quit smoking (1 week, yay).
Anyway, when's our next attempt?

No worries. When I saw that you waking up on time would require getting up with only about five hours of sleep, I decided no fault was to be held. ;)
QuoteAnyway, when's our next attempt?
This is, unfortunately, tricky. I am out of the country Friday through Sunday, and then at conferences from the 14th through the 21st. What with getting ready for the conferences, I don't think I can make it during the week -- possibly from 7-9PM London time, but I think this is during work for Hal and late at night for Rez.
We can try to do the combat on the forums, misreable as that would be, we can try to go during the week, or we can wait until the 23rd-24th. Your call.
That's 4-6am my time, from memory.
Theoretically possible if I do not have to work that day.
Okay. We didn't game this past weekend. This is entirely my fault, as I was recovering from near liver failure... and SCIENCE! O.<
So let's try again. I will probably not be available during the week, as this is promising to be busy. However, I will be available all weekend. Times people will be around?
I am busy parts of next weekend. Um. Busy saturday afternoon.
I can't remember if I'm doing anything next sunday. I might be busy in the afternoon, may not be!
Aside from that, I can try and make any time.

"Aside from that," he says, like he gave any sort of precise details. :P
So basically, it it's morning or late evening, it'll work for you?
This weekend should be fine for me. After this weekend my schedule changes, though, so we'll see how it goes from there.
Quote from: "Bjorn""Aside from that," he says, like he gave any sort of precise details. :P

Giving precise details is too easy.
But yeah, basically! I might even be able to make a 4am session but it's hard to say.

At the centre of the universe there is a gravitational singularity. Under the force of the big bang, we are rushing away from it, but in time it will reassert its dominance, and inevitably the universe will collapse into that single point.
You suck in the exact same way.
You are Suck-Or, Emperor of the Dawning Suck. The prophets know you as the Lamb of Suck, harbringer of Suckegeddon. You suck, have sucked, and will ever more suck. Where once there was suck, there is now only you, and children grow up knowing as the only inviolable truth that Rez is Suck and Suck is Rez. Rez doubleplussuck. When the oil wells start to run dry, the oil companies would turn to you for your enormous sucking powers, except that you suck. Your suckitude is so great that attempts to write down how much you suck left the Asian nations with no choice but to use a different alphabet.
(I'm tired. So very, very tired.)
So, okay. Let's see what's good for Brian.
This weekend I am working on Saturday, so could participate Saturday morning, or Sunday morning.
I'm running an in-person game on Sunday evening. <_<;;
I think I just got owned.
>_<
Well, Brian-time I can make Saturday morning, saturday evening, or sunday morning. Somebody pick one and give a specific time!
I'm really sorry I haven't been on top of this. Work has been busy.
This is extremely last minute, but how's this for everyone?
5 PM Sunday Oct 1, London Time
9 AM Sunday Oct 1, California Time
11 AM Sunday, Oct 1, Texas Time
2 AM Monday, Oct 2, Australia Time
If you read this in time and it'll work for you, please post. I really want this to be a short session -- I just want to get through the hellhound battle and then on to the forums.
If this session doesn't work out for whatever reason, I think I will reconsider my decision and unless there are objections, I will simply GM-fiat the outcome of the hellhound fight.
I can do that. It's a good thing it's a short sesssion, though.
I approve of this plan.
