From the ether, flesh is formed from the will and the power within and outside. Once again your spirits are garbed in the vestiments of life, your minds adapting to the new vessels you reside in!
Bleak metallic walls, darkened by long ages of eternity. Gutteral, sputtering torches, spewing forth foul black smoke and just enough light to see well. The floor is a cold and uncaring oynx, polished smooth and reflecting weird firelight shapes. Each step ahead echos all around, like a crazy man lunging for his relief, seen only in his delusions. This is what greets the heroes, a gloomy dungeon ahead!
This room is small, perhaps the size of a large sitting room. A perfect square, each corner having a single statue nestled in. Yet there is no door nor any escape that is visible to you. Each statue is different. A leering goblin of dark jade sneaking into the shadows, a brave knight of white opal standing true, a cowled and wise wizard of bright ruby waving his hands in the thoes of magic, and a small dragon of pure gold etched in flight.
There is no obvious door to anywhere else. Is this a trick already or a trap? A test? Where is the passage to lead you on in this grim abode?
OOC - Go ahead and react and post and get started.
"Well, 'ere we are!" snarls Tchaener. It's hardly a matter of choice; with thick, twisted lips, gigantic eyebrows, and a beard longer than the tail of a fox, the dwarf stands bound in ring mail and clutching an oversized slingshot.
"No sense standing 'round- let's get crackin'! Aye, Corwin? Aesop?"
He starts waving his hands on the spot, casting a spell that never before tumbled from the original's lips- a spell of finding traps!
"Bar-Dish," Corwin says, smiling widely as he admires his weapon, standing tall in the center of the room, a shield strapped to his back.
"Hmm, a hidden passage?" The halfling squeaked chipmunkishly. "Hey...gah, I sound like I've been huffing something. Bother." He rambled as he went to check out the wizard's statue in greater detail.
Dracos
Carthrat casts Find Traps!
All but the statue of the goblin are trapped in some manner. Notably, the statue of the brave knight imposes a real and serious danger.
* Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 against 15 percent and gets 75." [1d100=75]
Aesop does not find any traps of note on the statues.
"The goblin! It's not trapped- stinking whore!" snarls Tchaener. "Stay away from the bloomin' knight- always knew them paladins were no good!" He stalks towards the goblin statue, searching it carefully!
Hidden in the crook of the goblin's elbow is a tiny metal switch. Small and well made, it looks like it would be very easy to use.
Paladin... good!" Corwin protests, waving his bardiche above his head to emphasize his point.
Tchaener sputters. "Aye, in the technical sense!" he snorts, reaching over to flip the switch on the side. "'ere, get up here and get that axe ready!"
Aesop stepped back notably from the wizard's statue. "I see." He turned to watch what Tsch was doing.
Dracos
A laugh fills the room, a squeaky voice speaking back. "Aye, masters! Me will show you the way of the shadows!" To the north the wall wavers, a hallway ahead appearing! A narrow hallway, leading to depths unknown!
"Well, this body should be good at sneaking," Aesop chirped. "I'll scout ahead and come back. You two wait here?"
Dracos
"Aye! Be quick on yer feet, halfling," snarls Tchaener. "My slingshot canne wait forever! It needs blood, I say! Blood!"
"Sure sure, I'll be sure to bring some back." The halfling stepped into the corridor and then focused on his skills at being very quiet and unseen as he moved down it.
Dracos
Corwin moves to stand beside the dwarf, his weapon held ready. "Blood," he agrees, nodding, his shoulder-length blond hair whipping about.
Aesop rolls to hide in shadows and then move silently!
<Dracos> roll 1d100 vs 90%
* Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 vs 90% and gets 86." [1d100=86]
<Dracos> roll 1d100 vs 90%
* Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 vs 90% and gets 95." [1d100=95]
Gloomy shadows spread ahead of you as you travel down the dim hall. The scattered torches line the metallic, narrow wallscape, a scent of smoke lingering in the air. Ahead, perhaps 100 yards down, is a small connecting square room. The northern wall has three doors, one on the left, one on the right, and one on the center. The left and right door are heavy iron but ever so slightly ajar. The center is pure, shiny black stone, with two indentations in a vertical line, one atop the door and one at the bottom. Each is about the size of a baseball. A small carved plaque hangs in the center between them.
Aesop moved up to the plaque, checking it out.
Dracos
Carved in precise Common is the following: When the dark star reigns over the pale sun, the way to the future will open.
Aesop tapped his chin and then made his way to the door on the left, glancing into the ajar portion before trying to open it.
Dracos
You can see a long, wide hall ahead. Odd, you can see tiny straw and mud huts, and the smell of offal tinges your nose. Ugh. You can hear little noises, ever so faint conversation in higher pitched voices.
Aesop checked the other one as well before deciding.
Dracos
The other room is a dark, small room. Your view is obscured by the fact that the angle faces the wall inside, worse luck. While you can't see much, you can here a scaly rustling, a slithering moving about.
Aesop chooses the squeaky voices. They sound less death bringing. He scoots in there, stealthy sliding along the walls like a shadow.
Dracos
Ahead is a long retangular corridor. Hay and offal are left about, a foul stentch permeating the air. Small stacks and huts of scrap wood and heavy hay are about. As Aesop creeps to the side, his foot lands heavily, clattering as he approaches to the center, where the huts are. Inside vicious little Kobolds peek out, gathering in the center of the hall! There must be a dozen of the creatures, blue furred and wearing dirty leathers! One stands at the top of the pack, eyes with unusual intelligentce brimming over. "Me Hector. This is our village! No one pass without paying the toll! Especially a sneaky thief that tries to sneak by!"
Hector's hand rests on a short sword, while half of the goblins are armed with daggers. The other half have slingshots and stones hanging in pouches, all behind their leader.
"Okay then, I shant pass!" His secrecy blown, he turned and fled the other way quickly.
Dracos
As he flees, the kobolds chitter and cry! "Fraidy!" Hector calls, as the beasts behind him rejoice! One even takes heart, a slingshot stone fired at the hapless halfling!
-2 mod since Aesop is fleeing and has the jump on them.
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20-2 and gets 5." [1d20=7]
The stone clatters near the iron door, missing as the halfling beats a hasty retreat out!
Detect traps has worn off.
Aesop runs back to the starting room. "Horde of little beasties. Possibly following. They've a village."
Dracos
"Let's kill them!" says Tchaener, pulling out a slingstone! "Horrid, EVIL little bastards!"
"Bees-tees!" Corwin exclaims, the muscles in his arms trembling as he holds his bardiche tightly. "Cut bees-tees!"
"Well...that works for me I guess. Bloodthirsty solution but...yeah, that's part of the game." Aesop listens and looks to see if they're following or stayed behind.
Dracos
<Dracos> roll 1d100 versus 20% to hear kobolds?
* Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 versus 20% to hear kobolds? and gets 96." [1d100=96]
Aesop does not hear anything that helps.
"I think they went back. I'll stay to the shadows. Hopefully I can catch a few of them by surprise when the fighting starts and thus get them worrying about being attacked from two sides."
Dracos
"Let's proceed," snarls Tchaener. "The many blessings of the GODS upon us all, my friends! Let our weapons strike true!" The dwarf waves his arm wildly, somehow channeling magic upon his friends!
Okay, cast Bless if you're going to and declare exactly what you're doing/rushing in there to do.
Aesop takes a deep breath and following the charging paladin stealthy moves about ten behind, attempting to sneak through without being noticed and get behind them in the fighting.
Dracos
Tchaener blesses his friends, and shortly runs after the charging paladin, ready to cast a hold person spell upon the foul beasts that lurk within!
He really, really hopes they're actually people...
* Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 versus 90 hide in shadows and gets 9." [1d100=9]
I added a +30% mod due to the situation and Aesop still killed the roll. Go you!
Tch casts Bless! One round is consumed sprinting to the goblins as a rule, so you'll have 8 rounds of bonus after this.
Corwin is the first to the room! The kobolds are ready now! The slingshotters are hiding inside of the huts, waiting and ready to launch their projectiles out at any comers! The dagger kobolds and Hector are warily waiting as Corwin charges at them!
Okay, initiative. I'm going to roll two groups for the baddies - the slingshotters and the melee kobolds. Since the slingshotters prepared I'm going to givet hem a -1 bonus. I assume Corwin is just attacking, what about Tch and Aesop? Roll with your intentions for the round.
Tchaener plans to cast Hold Person. Init: [00:50] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d10+5 and gets 9." [1d10=4]
"Eevil!" Corwin roars, his bardiche raised high above his head as his charges Hector. "Puny! Die!"
[17:36] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 1d10 and gets 8." [1d10=8]
17 with weapon speed.
Dagger kobolds are at 9. Sling kobolds are at 12.
> roll 1d10 melee kobolds
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d10 melee kobolds and gets 7." [1d10=7]
> roll 1d10-1 slingshot kobolds
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d10-1 slingshot kobolds and gets 6." [1d10=7]
So, Tsc=melee kobolds>Slingshotters>Corwin>Aesop. Go ahead and finish your spell first while I get the kobold reaction ready.
Tschaener directs his magical wrath towards one of the kobolds armed with a slingshot, attempting to freeze him in place!
> roll 1d20-2
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20-2 and gets 16." [1d20=18]
One of the slingshot kobolds is so frozen, falling over in it's hut and frozen up! As the fell magic curls around it, the melee kobolds leap, charge and swarm Corwin! Six of the including their leader, blades flashing as they attempt to cut him open!
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 hector and gets 15." [1d20=15]

Hector hits. 2/5 of the others hit. Ow.

* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 and gets 1." [1d4=1]
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 and gets 4." [1d4=4]
Corwin takes 6 points of damage.
So swarmed, two of the kobolds slip their little daggers into Corwin's armored hide! Blood is drawn, particularly from a nasty gouge in his hip! As his blood flows out freely, Hector skillfully charges, whipping his sword out to slash Corwin grazingly across the cheek!
Meanwhile the 5 non bound slingshotters get ready, launching stones - three at Corwin, one at Tsch, and one seems to be dashing over to the kobold that was held!
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot and gets 9." [1d20=9]
> roll 1d20 slingshot
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot and gets 19." [1d20=19]

* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot Rat and gets 3." [1d20=3]
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 and gets 1." [1d4=1]
Corwin is hit once for -1- damage. FEAR. 9/16 HP left!
A stone boucnes off Corwin's head, doing little damage as his gray matter is already discount property! A stone is launched farther, missing Tsch by a few inches!
Go Corwin.
[/i]
His hair flies in a wind of Corwin's making, in a state of total disarray! His bardiche twirls overhead in the large man's massive arms, before coming down with a vicious diagonal slash at Hector! Roaring, Corwin follows his strike with twisting his weapon away and doing a turn in place, intent on plunging it into the vile kobold's side!
[17:58] <Corwin> roll 1d20+2
[17:58] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 1d20+2 and gets 20." [1d20=18]

[17:59] <Corwin> roll 2d4+5 second
[17:59] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 2d4+5 second and gets 12." [2d4=4, 3]
Ow.
Hector is ripped apart! Corwin's bardiche is too accurate and too powerful, turning the kobold leader into bloody chunks of cheap flesh! As the kobolds cry out in anger and despair, Aesop slips into position!
Go Aesop.
Aesop frowned as his plan was RUINED, RUINED by the paladin. Bah. No matter, the clever halfling quickly chose another target and drawing two daggers, flung them hard into soft points in it's back.
Dracos
"An-GER!" Corwin roars, waving his drenched weapon, Hector's blood running down its shaft and dripping onto the ground as it it is shaken violently in the air. "Puny! Flee! Die!"
[11:03] <Dracos> roll 1d20 dagger one backstab?

Ow -3. Still ow.
Aesop darts from teh shadows of the huts, into the battlefield! One of the dagger wielding kobolds is impaled in the back, falling over into a bloody mess! While he twitches a bit, that last blow is enough to end it's miserable life! So the battle rages on, the kobolds shaking thier heads.
"This home! We never stop defending it!" So they cry bravely, yet even as they begin to show open fear!
Initiative.
Recap: Tsch is in the door, Corwin and Aesop are in the melee. Hector and one of the dagger kobolds are dead, so four meleers are left. One of the slingshotters is held, and the other 5 are operational. 7 rounds left on bless.
Casting Cure Light wounds on the Paladin. [01:27] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d10+5 healtschaener and gets 6." [1d10=1]

[11:13] <Dracos>wow
[11:13] <@Kotono> I'm calling this +40%, but you slayed both of 'em. Post that with the noted mod, too.
Corwin wipes at his bleeding cheek with the back of his hand, succeeding in smearing the bloood all over it, and then grips his mighty weapon with both hands, his eyes seeking out new targets to slay, devoid of intelligence!
And he goes at 19, how lame.
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d10 meleebolds and gets 6." [1d10=6]
> roll 1d10 slingbolds
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d10 slingbolds and gets 4." [1d10=4]
So Aesop>Tsch>Meleebolds>Slingshotters>Corwin. Go Aesop.
Aesop looks about and flings two more at the most aware seeming kobold visible. Especially if said is turning around.
[11:18] <Dracos> roll 1d20 sneak attack

[11:18] <Dracos> if so hits AC 1, AC 2.
[11:18] <@Kotono> Two hits. Roll damage and post all that.

[11:19] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d4 DAGGER and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[11:19] <Dracos> roll 1d4 DAGGER
[11:19] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d4 DAGGER and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[11:19] <Dracos> 6 damage! DUN DUN DUN!
One of the dagger kobolds turns, only to get twin daggers in it's back! A lethal stabbing, sending him to the floor and to the abyss that awaits it's filthy soul!
Go Tsch.
* Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d8 healing and gets 6." [1d8=6]
"Your wounds aren't really there! They're foul illusions of evil creatures!" shouts Tschaener, touching a blue-glowing hand to Corwin's ravaged body!
"See, you pathetic creatures! There's no point attacking us!" he crows.
Corwin is at 15/16 HP.
The kobold stare in muted terror, but they aren't done! "N-no! Our home! OUrs! Bullies not take it!" So they cry, the three remaining ones upright attacking - one on Tsch and two on Corwin!
> roll 1d20 Tsch
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 Tsch and gets 10." [1d20=10]
> roll 1d20 corwin
> roll 1d20 corwin
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 corwin and gets 11." [1d20=11]
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 corwin and gets 13." [1d20=13]
Corwin takes one hit.
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 and gets 2." [1d4=2]
So they try another foolished, afraid charge! Corwin takes a grazing wound across his arm, sprinking out his renewed lifeblood! Meanwhile, the slingshot kobolds cry out, pointing! "There!" One says, voice quaking, as three stones are launched at Aesop, and one at the other two, respectively.
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot Aesop and gets 9." [1d20=9]
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot Aesop and gets 15." [1d20=15]
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot Aesop and gets 19." [1d20=19]
> roll 1d20 slingshot Tsch

> roll 1d20 slingshot Corwin
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 slingshot Corwin and gets 10." [1d20=10]
Aesop is hit once, as is Tsch.
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 Aesop and gets 4." [1d4=4]
> roll 1d4 Tsch
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 Tsch and gets 4." [1d4=4]
Ow. Corwin is at 13/16 HP, Tsch at 15/19 and Aesop is at 11/15. Go, Corwin.
A stone gets Aesop right in the back of the head, a small rivulet of blood coming from a nasty crack there! Another stone gets Tsch right in the stomach, a crunch of ribs lightly seasoned with breaks!
"Dur! AvaLON!" serves as Corwin's battlecry as he brings the massive polearm above his head, and brings it down ontop of the kobold who managed to wound him again, using all of his rage to power the blow!
[18:32] <Corwin> roll 1d20+2
[18:32] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 1d20+2 and gets 21." [1d20=19]
[18:32] <Corwin> roll 2d4+5
[18:32] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 2d4+5 and gets 11." [2d4=4, 2]
The impudent kobold is beheaded and split asunder! As it's lifeblood stains the black floor, the survivors...
"Stop!" One cries in fear, "We'll give you nice things! Just stop!"
Even admit as a torn apart kobold make sa nice fountain of red, they remainder begs for mercy!
"Hah! That's good to hear," snarls Tchaener, holding a deadly stone in his sling, ready to fire. "Ease off, Corwin- they're ready to mend their ways! But keep a sharp eye!"
Corwin turns to look at the dwarf, asking uncertainly, "Evil? Slay?"
"If they attack us, they are truly evil in the sight of all!" bellows Tchaener. "But if they pay us reperations, then that is a definate step to good!"
Corwin nods firmly, and slams the wooden shaft of his bardiche on the ground, holding it up with one hand.
"We'll give you nice things," One of the two remaining dagger kobolds drops his dagger, falling to his knees in front of Corwin. "Just don't hurt me any more! Sektor, bring them the shinies!" One of the sling shot kobolds quails in terror, going deep into one of the tiny huts.
"Do you possess a black or white stone?" barks Tchaener. "What else lurks in this fetid place?"
"White stone! White stone!" One of the slingshotters calls, "It's past the mean faceless men! Over there!" Pointing to the far side of the huts, a door leading on can be seen, a little recess with a wide, tugpull door. "But the river's full of hurties and the men hurt you even worse!"
Meanwhile another comes out, holding three glass bottles - one of light blue, one of red, and one of dark purple.
Aesop moves, but remains out of sight as he can, trying to keep tabs on them if they renegade.
Dracos
"What are these liquids?" snaps Tchaener. "And what is it that these men can do?"
"Blue one makes you feel better, red one makes you really stron gagainst scary flames, and purple one maeks you really sick!" So it's blurted out by the holder, as he meekly offers them to Tsch.
"They say weird words when you try and get across the river and they really hurt you or do weird things! River hurts, too!"
"Flames.. wizards? Do wizards lurk across there?" asks Tchaener, frowning. "Do they set you on fire?"
"They do bad thigns - you fall asleep or if they touch your thing rots off or other weird things! Scary!" The kobolds are retreating intot hier huts, hiding.
"How many?" asks Tchaener, in frustration. "Just one? Two?"
"Four! Four! They're all scary!" This is the last thing they say before fully getting intot he huts, quivering in fear deep in the shadows therein.
The halfling Aesop headed over towards the door, looking through it to see the truth of what they said.
Dracos
To do so would require to use the tugring to open it wide. The door is currently shut.
"We should rest," barks Tchaener. "Ain't got the necessary spells to deal with wizarding fools at thar moment."
Aesop rubbed where the stones had hit. "Reasonable enough. Lead away. There's also the other side that has some creature there."
Dracos
Going back to the room with the four statues?
"That's what I'm thinking about now," replies Tchaener. "Still, wizards have to be thought of first."
He casts a spell, an augury to... someone.. a plea to help!
Will we profit if we attempt to speak with what lies beyond this door? [02:18] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d100 and gets 60." [1d100=60]
Woe unto the effort.
"We must kill them all," nods Tchaener. "No mercy at the time! For now, we must rest, and you two must be mended so that our chances are better."
"Certainly...you have first aid equipment?" He wondered as they wandered back to the first room, leaving the kobold's to lick their own wounds.
Dracos
The trip is without incident. The statues leer at you, each one seeming to hover large as you settle in.
Go ahead and chat it up as long as you want then we'll move on.
"Magic, fool!" snaps Tchaener. "Here, let me show you!" He taps both Aesop and Corwin on the shoulder with a glowing blue hand, healing them both of their wounds!
[02:24] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d8 Healing Dracos! and gets 8." [1d8=8]
[02:24] <@Carthrat> roll 1d8 Healing Corwin!
[02:24] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d8 Healing Corwin! and gets 3." [1d8=3]
Aesop is at full HP. Corwin is at full HP, just barely.
"bah, strangeness but effective, I agree." Aesop sat down, recovering froom the whole violent endeavor. Tsk, some much better with pieces.
Dracos
"Yes. You there! Corwin! Are you truly in the skin of a Paladin? If so, you must heal my wounds," states Tchaener, nodding. "Then, we rest. And then, we fight!"
With Corwin not actually present, I *presume* he uses 4 of his lay on hands to heal Tchaener 4 HP.
So Corwin does so, smiling broadly and stupidly.
Edit your spells and we'll be ready to rock.
"Let's not rest with these statues," adds Tchaener. "They're trapped, somehow. Better to rest up near the doors, and we'll be ready for if something comes out."
The rest goes without incident. While you do recover, a chill enters your bones. One that doesn't leave, the stony floor leeching away the heat from your tired meat. All of you are rather hungry as well.
Go ahead and react/wake up/get going.
"Alright. Firstly, let us check on the door that wizards lurk behind," stays Tchaener. "It may be trapped, so I will inspect it first."
The kobold lair is quiet, any of the beasts still here hiding deep in thier huts. The door ahead looms, ready for Tsch to cast his magic if he wishes.
Tchaener casts Find Traps, ready to discern if this door has some fell magic cast upon it!
The door is amazingly untrapped.
"There's nothing here," cautions Tchaener. "Ready to scout ahead?"
"Sure. This time I won't get spotted." He opened the door to check first.
Dracos
The stench of kobolds fades from your nose; the murmur of water is heard. The steel floor ahead is bisected by a river that should be impossible, eleven feet wide and four feet deep. Only a supremely narrow, single log in the center is any sort of crossing, slippery and unstable. Another long rectangle of a room, cut neatly in half down the middle by the river.
The river is barely moving, but is full of jellyfish. Teeming over with the vile things, burbling up and ready. Past the river are four, each faceless and with an aura of evil around them. An aura you feel all too well, choking your senses. Each wears a black robe, hands extended, unlined and smooth. They are about six feet away from the far edge of the water, the river an excellent natural barrier. Near the left hand side of the river there are no torches, obscuring that end wall of the water.You can't really get a good look there.
Past them are twin, rusted iron double doors. What lies beyond them is a mystery.
"Alright," says Tchaener, thinking. "Alright. I'm going to cast Silence on them, so they can't cast spells, and then you should be able to get to the river and throw knives at them.
I'll stay back, and support you from here. Corwin can't get them unless they come on our side of the river- the log's too dangerous."
Nonetheless, Tchaener casts two Protection From Evil spells; one for himself, and one for Aesop. "In fact, you may as well pull up the log from your side- that way, they won't be able to cross, either. Then, we can pick them off at leisure."
"No, let's wait till they get on it. Then pull so they fall into the river." Aesop suggests. "Otherwise a sound plan...this silence will remove their..ranged abilities?"
Dracos
"So the theory goes," replies Tchaener, frowning. "They don't have mouths, though... hmm. Well, let's try, anyway. Ready?"
"I'll get close first." Aesop moved, sneaking over by the river crouched.
Dracos
Tchaener mumbles of a spell, bestowing magical silence upon the wizards at the other side of the river!

[13:08] <Dracos> I'm going to crouch near the log, staying low ready to throw or yank the log out.
Forgetting what strategy was debated earlier and his part in it, Corwin heads for the log, his polearm held horizontally for balance, intending using said log to cross the water.
Okay!
Corwin, Dex check with a +2 penalty. Good luck.
As Corwin charges in, the wizards begin to speak! But these words are cut off by Tscanaer's spell! But their hands continues to move, weaving potent strands of magic around them!
React minorly, and let me see if Corwin passes or fails his check.
Aesop eyes the companion. "You idiot!" Trying to stick to the plan, he chucks two daggers at the nearest one.
Dracos
Corwin fails spectacularly at 17
SPLASH! Corwin gets halfway across before he does a header into th ewater! The jellyfish swarm him, vicious tentacles stinging!
Two damage to Corwin. 14/16 HP, and you're currently submerged.

Corwin, make a Dex check to try and get out of the water.
His massive muscles rippling, sweat pouring and mixing with water, Corwin erupts from the mass of tentacled jellyfish, sending them flying in all directions! He roars, his arms shaking the bardiche above his head, and stomps towards dry ground, waving his mighty weapon threateningly at the gathered mages as he tries to make it to shore!
And failing, apparently.
[20:43] <Corwin> roll 1d20
[20:43] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 1d20 and gets 9." [1d20=9]
Corwin manages to get to the edge of the water by the wizards, but slips back down to his knees! While progress was made, he's still slowed and is struggling to escape! Meanwhile is body is stung and tormented, even as his hand grasps dry land!
Two more damage from stings this round. 12/16
Meanwhile the forefinger of one of the robed men goes up, a single tiny bolt escaping it, unerringly going at the grizzled dwarven cleric!
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4+1 and gets 2." [1d4=1]
The impact bruises his knee, cloth and armor dented there from the magic missile!
Go ahead and react, Rat, while I resolve the other two. You do as you like, Corwin and Aesop.[/i]
Tchaener manages to squeeze out his spell even as the bolt strikes him- at least it was a truly horrible blast! He flings an iron rod back at the offending mages, dark-grey bindings swirling about their legs!
"Be still, ye' bastards!"

* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 4#d20 and gets 41." [4#d20 = 1, 16, 12, 12]
Three of the spellcasters go rigid, falling over in the grasp of powerful paralysis! But one stays up, finishing his spell! A thin tendril of ghostly gray comes from above, reaching down at Aesop!
Save vs death magic, Aesop. Don't roll a 1.

While Aesop is chilled by the spectral touch, he remains only minorly injured!

"So much for silencing their powers," Aesop complained, shaking a bit in his boots at the cold touch before flinging two daggers out at the mage that attempted to bespell him.

Aesop brought his chilled hands down swiftly, fumbling clumsily for a daggers in fear of their strange magic. His haste made waste though as his first dagger nearly went into his foot, his second missing by a fair margin.

Planting both arms on the ground, his polearm laying nearby, Corwin flexes his manly muscles to pull himself out of the jellyfish domain, intent on dishing out some belated hurt to the evil wizards!
Corwin's manly muscles don't disappoint!
[21:22] <Corwin> roll 1d20
[21:22] * Hatbot --> "Corwin rolls 1d20 and gets 9." [1d20=9]
With a snarl Corwin gets out of the water! While he is stung a little more (1 more damage), he has escaped! As this happens the spellcaster finishes his spell! All around Aesop is darkness, the light gone from his view! An area of black is around him, cloaking much of the other side, even if Corwin is just out of range!
So harried by it, the dwarven cleric attemps to make a long range sling attack despite this obsticle!

I'll post the mages action in a little bit, short pause.
Staggering back like a stunned sailor on shore leave, the spellcaster holds his action, trying to fall back!
Go, Aesop.
Realizing his haste could get him killed, Aesop breathed in, trying to calm himself and rubbing his hands together to warm them as the mage tried to retreat a bit. Once the feeling started coming back into his hands he picked up two daggers, aiming carefully as he let them fly towards the chest of the moving mage.

Six damage total.
Both daggers embed like dragon's teeth into a frail human! Blood stains his black robe darker, serious wounds making him fall back in a daze!
Rat is up then Corwin.
With a snarky shout and a release of his wrist, Tchaener sends a pair of stone bullets flying towards the mage, the strange darkness be damned!
[13:22] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d20-4 and gets -3." [1d20=1]

The stone grazes the already wounded magician! A crack upside his head, a minor wound making him wobble like a drunkard! But he's still up, hanging on as Corwin comes around!
Corwin go.
Shaking off a clinging jellyfish, Corwin glares at the spellcasters, giving each and every one of them a fair share of his evil eye. "StinGIN," he grates, dripping water. "Bad! CorWIN hurt!"
The Bardiche of Punishment rises, deceptively slowly, and Corwin steps in with his right foot, twisting his body. He adds the momentum of his turn to his angry horizontal slash, and then turns again to repeat his attack, his weapon seeking out the wounded mage's blood!
[13:18] <Corwin> roll 1d20+2

Ow, ow, ow. Fuckin' a OW.
The Bardiche of Punishment delivers it's namesake! The wizard is cut in twine, fading away as his body is shattered! Where he was only has a small, smooth white stone instead of his body. It glows faintly, pearly white.
Act, as there are no unheld victims on the battlefield
Growling, Corwin proceeds to extract further punishment on the evil mages with their evil spells, using his polearm!
[18:46] <Maz> roll 1d20+2

Tchaener carefully makes his way towards the log, attempting to pass over towards the other side, and begin cracking the necks of those mages who remain held!
Aesop followed and collected his daggers while Tchaener was doing so. "Anything on them of note? The stone perhaps?"
Dracos
Corwin can continue to dispatch spellcasters without attack rolls, they can't move. Aesop and Tsch, you're going to need Dex checks to cross the log. If done properly you can take it very slowly and get a -1 bonus. You can also choose to stop after a step and turn back if you don't want to.
The second one is killed by Corwin, a blue hemmed robe appearing where he was.
TchAENER makes a dex check! Pass by 3. * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d20 dex check and gets 15." [1d20=15]
[14:04] <Drac-chores> roll 1d20-1 dex check

[14:05] <Drac-chores> pass
[14:05] <Drac-chores> by 4
Both Aesop and Tchanaer cross the bridge without falling in. Two held casters are left, the dwarf's magic effective.
"Aye, good work, paladin!" snaps Tchaener. "Kill them, otherwise they'll unfreeze and work evil upon us!"
Corwin shakes his bardiche violently, cleaning it reasonably well of blood, and places the weapon on a harness at his back, behind the shield strapped there. Then, the strong paladin makes his way to the log, and crouches down, grabbing its base with both arms. Muscles straining, he raises it from the water by the other end, and twists his body, bringing the log in a wide sweeping arc at the remaining mage, the movement intended to bash him in the side and send him flying into the jellyfish-laden canal.
The third is slain by Tsc! It drops a battlemace where it was instead of a body, as Corwin plays hockey with the last body! The crack is audible as it's knocked into the river! Amid the splash it's body vanishes, delicate scrolls appearing in the water, soaking up instantly.
Corwin drops the log on the ground, and heals himself, pointing at the water. "Bad man dead. No work evil."
"The scrolls! Well.. I suppose we didn't need them," grunts Tchaener, walking over to the white ball and picking it up.
Corwin notes something odd - did he just see something shiny in the river?
The gem is slightly warm in Tchanaer's hand. Knowledge fills his mind - a Gem of Identification. Touch it to any one magical item and you will know it as well as it's creator.
Tchaener pockets the gem, walking over to the mace on the ground! He picks it up, and experimentally touches the gem to the mace...
Corwin walks to the edge of the river, and points inside at the spot he saw something. "Shiny!" he exclaims.
In a flash of white the gem shatters into brilliant white dust! But the knowledge fills Tscanaer's mind! An enchanted mace indeed!
Tsc knows it as a Mace+1, +2 vs good.
It's right in the center of the river, a little close to the shadowed left side. But Corwin is sure he say something shiny there, even if he can't see it now. Really shiny!
Tchaener ties the mace to his belt, eyeing the paladin with a little wariness. "Aye," he says, glancing in the lake, and wincing at the jellyfish a bit. "Guess I'll go down and get it, then!"
He steadies himself, then hops into the lake, trying to get this shiny thing...
"Go get it then," Aesop absently said, finishing collecting his daggers and checking the robe as well as looking for other doors.
Dracos
Corwin looks at the water, winces, and then looks down at the log dumbly. He picks it up again, and shoves it in the direction of Tchaener, leaving it close enough that the dwarf would only need to move a few steps to hold on to it. "Me help," the paladin states categorically, not leaving solid ground.
OW!
Those jellyfish sting like the abyss! (2 damage.) Tscanaer is welted up speedily, as he looks around! You don't see anything shiny, just a now ruined scroll a bit away and the darkness to the left part of the river. Odd.
"Bah, there's nothin' here!" growls Tchaener. "Yer a fool!" He clambers back up the log...
As he does, Tscanaer catches a glimpse of something shiny in the very corner of his left eye.
"No shiny?" Corwin asks, his face featuring an expression of complete stupidity.
"Wait, wait- now I'm seein' it!" he says, jumping back in, and wading across to where he saw the shiny thing!
"SHINY!" Corwin calls out, vindicated!
OW! OW! FUCK! (2 more damage)
It's way down there in the darkness - another glint, but it's coming from an awfully far aways away! It's pitch black there so Tsc can't tell what it is or how fara way it is.
Tchaener pulls himself back up the log, and stomps angrily up the bank of the river towards the so-called shiny thing!
It's dark here, but infravision saves the day. That'st he funny thing - youc an't see it! But you can tell that the river hooks under the wall, a passage concealed in the shadows.
"I get it now," mutters Tchaener, grumbling. "This is going to be tricky, but I bet I can do it."
He quickly casts a healing spell upon himself...
* Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d8 and gets 4." [1d8=4] 17/19!
..and dives in once again, seeking to swim underneath and claim that shiny thing!
CAN Tsc swim? He's wearing some sort of armor, has a mace on his belt and is a dwarf. Do you have the NWP for it? EDIT - Okay, point, carry on. You do take the damage, obviously, and I'd bear in mind you are weighed down.
Also, 2 more damage.
OW! Damned fish - but you can see it's still a good ways a head. A trick of a glint of light - purple light - in the shadows? You're gonna have to go aways into this little underpass.
Tchaener unhooks the mace from his belt and tosses it onto the shore, before attempting to dive down into the underpass, and seize that shiny thing!
Down he goes! Into the aqua, ignoring the pain of the stings! (Two more damage.) Down he goes - it's a bit away! Past the wall is a small rise past - you're surrounded by dirty metal, but there's a bit of a gap for air. ABout 100 feet ahead is some sort of rise out of the water, and you also note some sort of splashing near it.
Cursing, Tchaener dives back into the water and swims back to shore, ready to pull himself back up again!
Doign so nets Tsch another two points of stinging damage. OUCH. But he manages to get out, hauled up by the powerful paladin!
"Where shiny?" Corwin asks Tchaener, having pulled him up.
"It's too far away to get to," grunts Tchaener. "But I've got a plan. I'll need to rememorize spells, though."
* Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d8 healing! and gets 3." [1d8=3]
"What's going on? What are you trying to get anyhow?" Aesop came over as Tch got out of the water.
Dracos
"There's something shiny down there- it's shiny, so obviously we should try to get it," states Tchaener. "Maybe after I rememorize.. anyhow, we should check to see what's behind this door." He gestures the the other one, that the mages were guarding, and shortly walks up to them, trying the handle.
Detect Traps is gone.
So the door is opened! At last! This room is well lit, the shining stone floors glistening in torchlight aplenty! Unguarded, plain stone steps are a head, the entire room a spread out stairway to a dias atop! Resting there is a dimly glittering white orb, sitting atop the highest step! In a square around the dais are nine shining golden rods.
"Ach! My spell of trap detection has run out!" mutters Tchaener. "And this room, it's giving me a chilly feeling. Another place to come back to once my spells reset, eh?"
"Mmm, well...Let's see." Aesop gives it a once over from the door, seeing if he sees anything.

I assume you have to move some to at least get a look the rods and the like.
Oooh yes. There are traps here - all around the gem itself. Something to do with the rods, but Aesop isn't sure beyond that. More and closer examinatino would be needed.
"Definitely... Any of you have...a big stick orr s...the log! Let's poke the gem with the log?" Aesop suggested..
Dracos
"Not a bad idea..." murmurs Tchaener. "Oi, paladin! Grab the log, and try and push the orb!"
"Looooog," Corwin says slowly, doing as he is told with a blank expression on his face.
Uh oh.
So the gem is pushed! The golden rods glow bright, three of them in particular! A hum fills the room, a heady pulse of the supernatural turning every rod into a blue tinted weapon of destruction!
* Hatbot --> "Dungeon_Kotono rolls 3#d9 and gets 9." [3#d9 = 6, 2, 1]
From three of them springs deadly power! From the first a great gush of conical cold engulfs Corwin! From the second roaring flames burst around him! From the third two pointed magical missiles fly, slamming into him!

16+4+6=26 damage to Corwin. OW.
The noble, brainless paladin is consumed! PArtsof his body are frozen solid, while other parts are burnt to a blackened husk! To compliment the pain two magical bolts tear holes into his chest! So Corwin falls, body ruined.
Amid it you hear a laugh, the laugh of your mocking tormentor. "One down this attempt," The unnamed servant of the Dark One taunts.
Corwin, into the Starry Wastes thread.
"By all that's retarded," mutters Tchaener, glancing at the rods. He circles around them carefully, inspecting them for any clues.
"Okay, that...clearly was much more violent a trap than I expected," Aesop rubbed his chin. "Any..spells for dealing with such traps?"
Dracos
The rods are identical and plain. Past that you don't see anythign odd about them - they're cemented into the floor, smoothly and firmly inserted. The small gemball was lightly moved, now at the very edge of the dais that holds it.
Tchaener considers for a moment. "Get back," he instructs, hurring back to the iron doors. Once he and Aesop are back outside the room, he takes cover from behind one of the doors, opening it about halfway; with his slingshot, he takes aim, and starts firing at the sphere, hoping to knock it off!
Aesop moves behind cover...cover being far far away!

The slingstones aren't all accurate, but one hits it and sends the orb rolling! Rolling down slowly, and in response? Three of the stavesl ight bright, firing off a icy wind, a double volley of magical missles, and a cracking orb of electricty! While the wind is ineffective against your guard, the magic missles hit and the orb strikes the door!
Since you're protected BUT by the conductive iroin door, I'll give you a save +2 to avoid any damage from the shock.

11 damage total. Owwies.
The two shots hit Tshanaer hard! They rock him as the orb slowly trails down and forward, making it about haflway through the room beforei t's momentum craps out.
Tsc is sent flying onto his rear, punctured and shocked good!
"Mother of the devil!" yells Tchaener, though he notes with some satisfaction that at least he got the ball off the dias. "I need to rest now, methinks. Here will do." He flops over on the spot, and starts snoring.
"Still with us?" Aesop dragged the man back from the door and considered it himself, picking up a rock and tossing it...at the nearest wand towards the edge, moving promptly behind the iron cover (Not touching it though) afterwards.
Dracos
No THACO for the sake of simplicity/under no danger at all
The stone hits the wand as Aesop dives behind the door! A moment later a great cone of cold slams into the iron, freezing it solid and coating it with ice! Aesop isn't hurt, but the door's utterly coated.
"Mmm, we need a rope or something," He went and waited for Tch to recover.

In a flash Aesop falls, the daggers tearing into his flesh! To his screams Tshaener stirs, perhaps in time to have an impact? "Hector is avenged!" On eof the kobolds gleefully calls as Aesop's innards meet the outside and floor!
"You little bastards!" yells Tchaener, moving behind the iron door and using it as cover! He quickly drinks his healing potion...
[00:09] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 2d4+1 and gets 5." [2d4=1, 3][1d8=5]
Basically, I'm trying to put the door between me and them, to both make it hard to attack me *and* limit the number of people who can.
Rat, that potion restores 2d4+1 HP. Reroll for that.
As Tshaener flees in a hurry, he gets a glimpse to the side. There are some ropes tied down near the edges of the water. There's something going on there, clearly, but fleeing to the protection of the door doesn't really give him much time. The door is still half frozen, too!
"For Hector!" The kobolds cry again, starting to give merry chase!
Go ahead and act, then they'll act, and then we'll see from there about initiative or whatever.
Tchaener yells a Word to one of the kobolds! "Swim!" he commands, gazing at one of them with deadly intent!
Casting command!
One of the three kobolds breaks and turns, hauling ass for the river! As he splashes in, the other three close!
I'm going to give you a -3 bonus to AC due to door cover, so they need a 20 to hit you this round.

Gnashing, vicious daggers strike, but the door deflects all three. Tchaener has a chance now, maybe! Meanwhile you can hear the yelps of the last kobold, swimming and being stung!

* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20 dex check and gets 13." [1d20=13]
Meanwhile the whimpers and cries of the last kobold grow softer. "Bastard!" one spits in anger, quaking like Goku about to go SSJ Kobold.

Like some kind of beserk tornado, Tchaener wastes no time in reloading his slingshot, and sends another duo of rocks hurtling towards the uninjured kobold's head!
With two more deadly projectiles the unhurt kobolds joins ranks with Hector in the Abyss of Souls! The last merely strikes out again, weeping in agony, fear, hatred!

Like a grey thunderbolt, Tchaener's counterblow blasts through the offending kobold's head, leaving a gaping hole where his face once was! The wily dwarf gasps for breath, his beard streaked with blood!
But with all the kobolds gone, now he can take stock of the situation. He runs back to the river room, and before rushing to tend to Aesop's wounds, he makes sure there are no other immediate threats.
There aren't any that he sees. Aesop is badly doing and going! With constant care through the rest and lots of healing after, he may live - maybe.
[01:03] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d20 and gets 5." [1d20=5] healing check
Tchaener checks the ropes at the river, to see if it can be crossed safely, and he takes a look at the door that lead into this place from the kobold room.
If it's easy to cross, he uses the gear in Aesop's backpack, and stacks up a small pile of equipment and sling stones in front of the door; if it opens, they'll make a racket and hopefully wake him up!
This is done without incident. There don't seem to be any more kobolds, only a nice trap set up now. Aesop still needs lots of healing and attention, and poor Corwin's body is starting to stink.
Tchaener drags Corwin's body into the trap room, and closes the door behind him. After that, he rests...
24 hours or so pasts, two full rest periods.
With this time Aesop and Tchaener are recovered! While their problems are complicated by another, they are alive. The thing is - they're hungry. Hungry as hell now and really feeling weak because of it.
In that 24 hours, Tchaener has...
-Gone to the kobold camp, grabbed their bad supplies, and cast 'purify food and drink', before feeding himself and Aesop.
-Cast two auguries...
"Is it imperative that we get whatever is at the other end of the river?"
"If we get the ball off the stand, will we be able to get it freely?"
[01:17] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d100 and gets 60." [1d100=60]

1. Nay, but great rewards lie at the end of the secret paths.
2. Woe unto the effort, only the cessation of sight shall quiet the roaring nine Gods.
When the third day arrives, Tchaener slaps Aesop on the back. "Bear with me a moment. I think I'll be able to get the orb safely, now," he states.
He turns back towards the trap room, inspecting it carefully. He takes his time, walking carefully, close to where the orb is. With a deep breath, he casts 'Darkness' over the orb, and indeed, the wands...
Darkness decends over the orb and the wands. It's quite black now as one might suspect it would be.
Closing his eyes for good measure, Tchaener reaches out in the darkness to grasp the orb!
The orb is taken!
Nothing happens!
Tchaener carefully backs out of the darkness, heading towards the river room!
Aesop is waiting there, your orb in hand. No volleys of powerful magic fly out to cripple Tchaener.
Tchaener slips the orb into his backpack! "Alright. Next, I'm going to try down here again- with a bit of magical help," he says.
He casts 'Sanctuary' on himself, attempting to ward away those that might try to strike him. With a deep breath, he jumps back into the river at the end where it goes under the wall, and starts swimming furiously- no turning back!
"Interesting...it was triggered by light?" He questioned Tsch about the puzzle and followed him to the river bank. "Or not..." Aesop watched the man dive once more into the moat. "Strange people this."
Dracos
Sancutaury reduces the damage considerably. 1 point for a few rounds of swimming.
Ow! While a few more stings do wound the determined dwarf, he gets closer! It's literally a stairway out of the water, ten steps then a pedestool. Sitting there is a purple orb as well as several items, but he's stilll about 25 feet away. Just at the edge of the stairs to the water, you can see some serious splashing starting!
There's nothing for it but to keep swimming! Trusting in the protection of... something... Tchaener makes for the stairway!

Leaping up ahead of you - it's a fish...man? A green scaled horror with venom dripping claws and gills around it's twisted face, it strikes out at the evil cleric - and fails to do anything! Shaking it's head, it stumbles back off into the water.
With a little surprise, Tchaener silently thanks his protector, and walks up the stairway, peering at the orb and items that lurk there!
At the end of the path of the jellyfish is stairs - the river simply ends, the flow of water coming from nothing at all. To a pedestool a few feet above it, a few items rest. A glowing purple orb of energy, a vial of soft white fluid, a magnificent two handed sword, carved of ebony black rock, a shield of the finest steel, and two wrapped spell scrolls.
Tchaener reaches out to touch the purple orb, wondering if it might have an effect on something!
The second his hand touches the orb, it blinks into thousands of motes of light! He feels a sense of power passing by, coming into him and around him and t his friends!
See Scorecard
There is also only one round left on Sanctuary.
Grabbing the shield and the vial, Tchaener leaves the rest of the junk where it is, and hurried dives back down into the water, hoping his sanctuary spell will last long enough to get him back intact!
Mmmm.
So Tchaener swims like the devil! But with a shield being lugged, he's nowhere fast enough to escape easily! As he begins to make haste and feel a few stings(1 damage), he hears an unearthly, slithery cry of distress, splashing behind him!
Tchaener looses the shield behind him, kicking it back into the face of that... thing... as he continues bravely swimming forward, putting on an extra burst of speed!
THACO, I think.
[02:08] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d20 and gets 10." [1d20=10]
You hear a faint cry behind you, but the splashing doesn't stop! As you wince at more and more stings(2 damage), you pass the halfway mark! But you can hear it moving, coming, grappling past the shield!
Tchaener continues to flee! In desperation, he puts that potion of white liquid to his lips, uncorking it with his teeth and chugging down the liquid in the hope that it does SOMETHING!

Seeing this and howling in frusturation, the fishman begins to swim back, fleeing! Aesop has a sho as he flees, however, should he want it.
Aesop holds off, checking on Tchaener. "Are you alright?" He checked over the wound with his untrained eye.
Dracos
"Ugh. No," replies Tchaener, wincing. "But it's not so bad. What about you? Need healing?"
It's a long, jagged cut down the dwarf's side. He's bled a fair bit from it, even if the magic has mended almost all of it away.
"Just a touch, if we can spare it," Aesop nodded. "We should be careful in case more of the kobolds are ready in the village on our way out."
Dracos
"I don't think there are any left- I already raided there for food," replies Tchaener. "I didn't check it thoroughly, though."
"Fair enough, I'd just like less things stabbing me in my sleep. Thank you by the way. Let's head to the main corridor afterwards, I'll scout from there."
Aesop lead the way back to the village where they thoroughly scouted/looted anything of note before moving back to the main corridor.
Dracos
"Lets. I'm still sure we can get through this the first try," notes Tchaener, following the rogue.
The kobold camp has the following on a through search:
5 more daggers.
A shortsword
Dirty, nasty, smelly leather armor too small to wear.
A few old pots and pans.
Some fire sticks and logs.
Thread.
A few old boxes.
A few scraps of edible meat you missed. A nice snack if you don't mind the taste.
Tchaener grabs the thread, a pot, and the fire sticks before heading back to the central room.
Aesop takes the daggers and short sword heading to the main room. "Stay here, and be readied for my panicked fleeing return."
Aesop opened the door on the other side first.
Dracos
In this room rests a great woman! Her top is bare and her breasts show alluringly, yet from her stomach down she is a snake!
Long purple hair cascades down her back. She rests on a small bed, slithering about on it restlessly. A small, cozy bedroom, with a door on the far upper right side corner, half obscured by silk curtains.
"Oh..." She murmurs, voice a throaty whisper, "Visitors?"
"Something like that, short guests in this castle. Yourself, ma'am?" He chipmunked back squeakly.
Dracoos
"What a loathesome little creature!" Her voice raises into disgust, curling up to sit upright on her bed. Around her is a fireplace, a few bookshelves, and the like. A nice room, really. "If you DARE want to go forward, you'd best entertain me, creature."
"Well ignorning my squeaky voice, what entertainments do you like? I can juggle daggers or match you in a game of knucklebones, marbles, or checkers," He came up with at a rapid pace.
Dracos
"Mph, try," So eyeing Aesop coldly, "Try and entertain me with those things, then. Let me see you juggle...daggers."[/i]
Drawing first two daggers, he began slowly tossing them up into the air. Two more soon joined them as they swished about, counting on his bodies swift reflexes and keen skill with them to keep from skewering his hands as he finally moved to six spinning daggers, three rotating in each hand and occassionally passing between each.

From just outside the room, Tchaener rapidly casts another augury...
"Should we try and subdue her?"
[13:44] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d100 and gets 50." [1d100=50] pass
Oblivion awaits those that are foolhardy[/b]
Tchaener frowns, and gestures at Aesop to 'get out and give up'.
"I shall send a friend better equipped to entertain, fair lady." He chirped still spinning his daggers about as he moved backwards towards the door, ready to duck/weave/stuck six blades of steel in the way of that tail if it moved.
Dracos
"You'd best," Hissing and slithering, the snakewoman leers. "Don't dissapoint me again or you'll rue the day!"
Without another word he scooted out of the room and out of view, taking a breath as he finally caught his daggers and slipped them out of the air, gesturing for Tchaener to close the door.
Dracos
Tchaener closes the door, and glances at Aesop, with a wry smirk.
"Ain't quite the impressive type, are ye'?" he chuckles, though he then turns grim. "I ain't too sure how we can get by this one. I not be liking the look of that tail.
"Still, there might be a way..." He hustles the halfling back into the kobold camp. Pulling out that purple poison, he uncorks it, and, with some trepidation, gives it a sniff.
It smells like too sweet and too bitter melted candy with a hint of rotting meat.
"I need a couple of cups. And new spells," states Tchaener. "And this still might not work, but it's the best shot I have. Worst comes to worst, I'll be able to beat a hasty retreat... I hope.
"Let's go rest back across the river, again. You keep watch. Ugh, magic, it's like war. 95% tedium..."
"Fair enough," Aesop chirped, heading with him there and standing guard while he worked.
Dracos
Rest comes and passes without incident. So the two surviving heroes prepare, Eisenschloss awaiting them!
Tchaener casts his latest divination, hoping to answer an important question!
"If I try and trick the yuan-ti into drinking this poison, will it benefit us?"
[01:08] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d100 and gets 50." [1d100=50]
Risk and reward are one in the same oftimes.
"Aesop, light a torch," says Tchaener, at length. "Stand ready to throw it inside if I start screaming."
He heads back to the door to the yuanti, poison and cups in his backpack, and he walks inside!
Aesop stops him. "Wait a moment...explain to me why? I was planning to enter as your shadow and be ready to strike her if the plan fails."
Dracos
"Well, if you think you can do it," he replies, dubiously. "Let's go, then!" With this plan in mind, he pushes open the door...
Aesop slips into his shadow so stealthily that Tchaner almost thinks he's alone, hiding his movements and presence behind the larger man's motion and noise.

The snakewoman awaits! She thrashes on her bed, slithering around in annoyance! "Another? Entertain me!" she demands, going upright and tall as she gazes at Tch!
"Impress me, dwarf!"
"As you wish, fair lady! I have prepared a concoction, a brilliant dwarven liquor that can bring joy to the most ennui-stricken heart!" pronounces Tchaener, gruffly pouring his vial into a cup.
"Chug it in one go!"

[01:24] * Hatbot --> "Carthrat rolls 1d20 and gets 13." [1d20=13]
"Foolishness! What manner of foul idiocy is this? Drink? You are nothing but a mangy earth lover!" With a roar she flicks back, her barbed tail firing a vicious, needlelike barb at Tchaener!
Aesop, if you're gonna try to do something, do it now.
Aesop notices her tail twitching towards his dwarvish friend and quickly lashes out from the shadows, daggers flying towards both of her eyes from either hand.

To the horrified eyes of Aesop, Tchaener's body shivels into dust! The half meaty, melting dust flies to the opening mouth the snakewoman, gorging her with food! "My eye..." she laments after, writhing around on the bed in pain! Her hands are around the dagger, even as nothing but his backpack is left of Tschaener!
Aesop, seeing his cover disintegrated with so little flare, eyes the flailing beast before making a break for it for the door on the other end using any cover he can to hide behind while trying to get through that door, knowing to stay here is certain death.

[11:44] <@Kotono> Post to the starry wastes thread.
[11:44] <Dracos> that brings it to 37 a pas
The door youc ame or the door the snakewoman guards, Aesop?
Door the snakewoman guards.
"My eye! Damn you to the 666 parts of the Abyss!" As the snakish woman groans in torment and hellish pain, Aesop reaches the door. It's a sturdy door with an ornate keylock built in. They keyhole is rather large, however, something that you knwo would make lockpickery easier.
Aesop hurried to try and unlock it while she was distracted and hopefully not able to even see where he was standing, glancing about for the key while working.

[14:03] <Dracos> well, still fail. -_
Aesop doesn't see a - oh wait! Atop a seven foot tall bookshelf there is a glint of steely metal! But meanwhile you can hear the snake woman hiss! "You! Where are you?!" She thrashes around, starting to turn Aesop's way! "YOU!"
Aesop dashes behind cover, seeking to use the room, to hide and leave her searching other places, putting all his skills to use.
Dracos
If I need to reroll, tell me, otherwise I'll assume the same previous roll stiill is in effect.
She got half al ook at you, so reroll with a +10 mod to both.

Initiative
"You...KILL YOU! THIS IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT! DIE!" Her voice is a hysterical pitch, reminding you of a woman scored.
Aesop draws daggers as he rushes behind cover, trying to get to the other open door as he goes, his swift halfling feet pumping to try and keep himself far away from that tail as he lashes out with two daggers towards her good eye, not sparing the breath to taunt chipmunkishly.

Acting swiftly and knowing his only hope was in blinding the wicked snake, he acted quickly, flinging his daggers with swiftness and accuracy at her.

[14:51] <@Anastasia> So you're trying a fighting retreat/eye gouge?
[14:51] <Dracos> Yes. Ranged eye gauge obviously. Trying to stay behind cover as I respect her DEADLY DISINTEGRATION TAIL

[14:54] <Dracos> Wowza
7 more damage in total.
A sickening pop signals that her other eye has been penetrated! Three daggers are sunken into her face, hands futilely clawing at the intruders! Wordless scraems of pain and anger are heard, as she blindly fires off her tail barb!
Needs a natural 20 to hit with the huge blind mod.

* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d20 needs a natural 20 here to hit Drac and gets 13." [1d20=13]
The barb goes far too high, embedding ni the iron ceiling instead! Finishing his run, Aesop ends up just outside of the room!
Aesop waits behind the cover of the door, peeking out quietly to watch her and ready to run if she charges blindly out.
Dracos
She's thrashing on her bed, crying miserably out. "My eyes...why? Cruel fate! This is unacceptable!" So she wails, slowly and blindly trying to get to her shelf. The one the key's on, too. "I can't...I won't stay like this!" She does a poor job, groping around on the floor as she slowly advances to it.
"That way you can't see my ugliness" He taunted to distract her with his oh so annoying chipmunk voice and hopefully keep her flailing away, even as two swift daggers found their way into her unarmored back.

[15:22] <@Anastasia> Go ahead. She's blind so she's not hard to preempt.

The dual wounds take much of her starch out! "Monster! Brute!" she screams, a wild, hopeful tail shot sent in pure panic!

But as one might suspect, the quill misses badly! Wounded twice in a row, she slows down, green staining the floor as her movement struggle!

[15:27] <Dracos> 14 damage!
[15:28] <Dracos> FEAR THE ROGUE BUILD!
A direct hit! The first dagger goes from her shoulder blade to out, ruining her heart in one awesome throw! The second is moot as she bleeds out, movements stopping with a final thrash of her tail!
Aesop waits carefully a bit, watching for even the slightest hint of motion for a bit. Once he's truly sure he goes and stabs her an extra time for good measure, recovering his stuff and then heading out to the corridor and sitting a bit against the wall, breathing hard. "Aii... just...crazy. hoo..." He looked around nervously as he recovered mentally a bit from the ordeal of death dealing spikes around. "Certainly, quite a puzzle this is... and both of them gone now. mm, means I have to get to the next floor most certainly."
Steadying himself, he finally rose maybe ten minutes later, getting up and heading back into her room, starting by searching the place thoroughly through.
Dracos
Roll a d20
Things of note found:
Amid all the books, one glows with purple letters on the front. While you can't read them, they make you feel eerie.
An iron key atop the bookshelf.
A flask full of sweet smelling brandy, leather. It makes you feel better when you sniff it.
A few old, poilshed golden coins, if money means anything in this hell.
[/i]
Aesop took the gold and the key and the flask, listening at the other door carefully.

[15:56] <Dracos> wow
[15:56] * Dracos is confused to see a pass on that ski
You can hear faint windy sounds.
He opens the door towards him, listening and hiding behind it's cover.
The sound of blowing air comes to Aesop. On looking out, he sees that a vast room is ahead! Stretching far, four paths soon diverge - one of white, one of black, one of gray, and one of steel. Each one weaves around the others, going to a point far away that Aesop can't see. There's a pedestol just inside, a little circular space before the great gaps and paths, with writing on it.
Aesop quietly makes his way in, looking out for traps and ambushes. Getting near he reads what's on the pedestal.
---
[16:33] <Dracos> yeah, figured I'd roll and do 1 post rather than two

[16:33] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 versus 90 I'm silent as the wind though and gets 67." [1d100=67]
Aesop doesn't see any traps, just dark void all around the faraway iron walls of this huge chamber.
'Which path do you walk, and which path leads to victory?'
Aesop took a second to look down each passage, not stepping in but examining them as best he could for dangers from the safety of the pedestal center room.
Dracos
Each passage is a anrrow band of that color that twists and rises, and dips down. Each weaves with the others, bands and passage leading on to a climax ahead that's too far away to see.
"Well...mm, it asked it of me. Two questions in fact. The path that leads to victory by the decision of the owner is clearly black. The path I've been walking is full of steel and killing though, it's also lead to victory each time so if there's any justice, it'll be the path of steel again that leads to it." He tried tossing a rock a good 10-20 feet along each path first, but if none of them are blatantly death bringing to that, he heads down the path of steel carefully, focusing on being ready in case the wind picks up.
Dracos
With the rocks doing little, Aesop takes to the path. It is a walk of time and patience - after five minutes the four path split apart, the void all around you now. The way you came seems to fade, and instead, images appear - of the kobolds lying slain, of the wizards cut down, of the snakewoman slaughtered. A soft woosh of air sounds after, as you stand at the other side! The path has come to an end, a simple door ahead.
Aesop, ever cautious after having daggers in his gut, looks around and listens at the door first.

[17:05] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 versus 20 X_X and gets 59." [1d100=59]
[17:06] <Dracos> yeah passing that twice in a row would be stunning.
Aesop hears nothing of note or use.
Aesop checks the door for traps and then opens it.

[17:08] <@Anastasia> Close enough to taunt.
[17:08] <Dracos> Hope it's not trapped with so close x-x
Once again Aesop does not detect any traps. It's a simple doorknob affair, ready to be turned and pushed in. The knob is wavy brass, like a bud that keeps opening up, and that could easily retract back into itself.
As Aesop opens it, a sharp pain spreads through his palm! As the knob is twisted it collapses back, a small, sharp blade cutting his hand as the door swings open!
> roll 1d4+1
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d4+1 and gets 3." [1d4=2]
3 damage, Aesop. update the #elysium topic.
Ahead is a small square room. Most of the floor is gone, except for a U that reaches to the tips of the northern wall. Past this narrow walkway is a pit - twenty feet deep. AT the ten foot mark a black gem floats in the air, perhaps three feet from floor level.
The pit itself isf ull of spikes and rusty, a vicious end awaiting any that fall in.
Rather than doing things the hard way, Aesop sits a second near the doorway, working on some of the leather he brought with his dagger and forging a makeshift net out of it. Hooking it around around his grapple he worked to safely ensnare the crystal from the doorway.
Dracos
Heh, that's interesting thinking, Aesop. Go ahead and make a couple of THACO checks.
[17:34] <Dracos> roll 1d20 thaco check 1

[17:35] * Udonge-usa is now known as SirAlex

[17:35] <Dracos> With daggers? That would be hitting AC 2. with raw, no bonus thac0: AC 5. With dex+throwing bonuses, AC 2.
[17:36] <Dracos> (Dex is +2, throwing +1 for halflingness)
[17:36] <Dracos> tossing all that out there so it's there to know
[17:37] <@Anastasia> Anyway, post those
The efforts aren't quite good enough - it's a small target and a fair range. However, as you get close?
Woosh! From both left and right walls tiny panels slide back, twin arrows flying, right in front of the black crystal! So they meet there, bouncing off each other andf alling into the pit! A nasty hazard, the plates sliding back into hiding place once it's done. Notably the little walkway on the sides could mean one could get to the panels if they wished.
Carefully making note of the two traps, he slowly wound back his rope, holding on and making sure that he was throwing with just enough to make it there and thus reducing the chances considerably it'd make it to the pit bottom below. Aiming carefully he took his time and swung another toss at it.

[17:51] * Dracos rolls anyway

Item save with a big bonus, just inc ase, since it's enchanted to be durable.
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d20+10 and gets 14." [1d20=4]
So it's snared, easily pulled up now! Got it!
Having both gems on him, he cautiously makes his way back, silent as a shadow, to the main locked door of the level, prepared for ambushes, falling ceilings, and the lord of Eisenschloss taunting him.
Dracos
The return trip is without incident. On reaching the door, the plaque's words await him, as well as the two sockets for gems.
'When the dark star reigns over the pale sun, the way to the future will open.'
Aesop makes sure his hands are gloved and pads it a bit with pieces of leather before putting the white gem in the lower slot and the dark one in the higher one.
Both gems and the door vanish! The way ahead is opened to Aesop in a glittering trail of black and white! A small stairway is here, six steps before a door - huge and imposing. A white skull is painted on the black iron, a great ominous feeling ahead.
"Hah! Well played, Aesop!" Your unnamed jailer taunts you, "Come! I await you past this door as does the stairs beyond!" HIs voice roars in your mind, making your temples pulse.
"your puzzles and traps are well made, Lord of Eisenschloss," Aesop boldly responded, examining for traps before making his way to the door and trying to open it.

[18:18] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d100 vs 15 and gets 23." [1d100=23]
You find no traps - and as you approach, the door slides aside into a million little parts, parting! Ahead is a candle lit room, a row of candelbreras on a red carpet path to the stairs! But standing at the base of the stairs is a man in pure black plate armor, arms crossed and wearing a white helmet in a skull motif. He chuckles ominously, easily over nine feet tall and shadowing you like a bug.
"You have done..adequately to make it this far. As a reward before I slaughter you with only my bare hands, I shall tel you my name! I am Ezerickal, servant to the Dark One and Warden of Eisenschloss!"
React/initiative.
"Ah, painful that sounds, could we possibly avoid it Ezerickal. Your puzzles have been oh so interesting and squished by your hands I certainly can't solve more of them right away," Aesop's hands, on that note, stealthy lay over daggers, ready to throw them the second Ezerickal moves while looking for doors surepticiously with his eyes.
Dracos
There are no other doors, just the stairs ahead.
With a disdainful laugh, "Come! I thirst not for your pretty words but for your blood!" With that he advances forward with the speed of a jungle cat, intent of flattening Aesop!
Initiative.
Aesop flings daggers at him to distract and hurt, leaping to the side and kicking a candlabra back at the man as he tried to flee around him.
----
[18:29] <@Anastasia> Anyway, intiative so that I can see who's acting first regardless of what you're doing. <_<
[18:30] <Dracos> roll 1d10-1 dagger init. What cover do I have?
[18:30] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d10-1 dagger init. What cover do I have? and gets 1." [1d10=2]
[18:30] <Dracos> Yes for SPEED!
[18:30] <@Anastasia> Minimal. A few candlebreras.
[18:30] <@Anastasia> roll 1d10
[18:30] * Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d10 and gets 7." [1d10=7]
Aesop>Baddie. Make your attack rolls.
[18:36] <Dracos> Should I roll anything for kicking a candalabra in his way? I'm small and dexterious so I intend to make following me around as much as a pain as I can.
[18:36] <Dracos> roll 1d20 Dagger throw 1 hand
[18:36] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d20 Dagger throw 1 hand and gets 16." [1d20=16]
[18:36] <Dracos> roll 1d20 dagger throw other hand
[18:36] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d20 dagger throw other hand and gets 11." [1d20=11]
[18:36] <@Anastasia> ACs?
[18:36] <Dracos> hits ac 0 and ac 5.
[18:36] <@Anastasia> One hit.
[18:37] <Dracos> and if he's in bloody platemail...cry cry =)
[18:37] * @Anastasia pats.
[18:39] <@Anastasia> So yeah, one hit. Damage?
[18:39] <@Anastasia> Large size, FYI.
[18:39] <Dracos> huh
[18:39] <Dracos> I have no idea what daggers do versus large size.
[18:40] <Dracos> but that only makes me cry more =p
[18:40] <@Anastasia> He is over nine feet tall. 1d3(This is supposed to help most weapon types. Daggers are the exception.)
[18:40] <Dracos> 1d3 X_X
[18:40] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d3 X_X and gets 1." [1d3=1]
[18:40] <Dracos> if my damage wasn't pathetic enough.
[18:40] <@Anastasia> (You're like the worst possible build to take on the boss. I really feel bad, since you did so well up to here.)
[18:40] <@Anastasia> Anyway, post all that.
[18:40] <Dracos> oh great, and min roll.
[18:41] <Dracos> Doo I roll anything to knock candlabras in the way?
[18:41] <Dracos> Aesop has no intent of going toe to toe with him.
[18:41] <@Anastasia> Mmm, sure, THACO against AC 8.
[18:41] <Dracos> roll 1d20 tossing candlabras to the ground in the way against ac 8!
[18:41] * Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d20 tossing candlabras to the ground in the way against ac 8! and gets 12." [1d20=12]
[18:41] <Dracos> That hits ac 4!
[18:41] * @Anastasia nods. Post all of that.
One of the daggers grazes through the armor, but the effect is minimal! Stumbling back in fear and desperation, Aesop knocks over a candlebrera! It falls over, slightly slowing the huge man, but he just tramples over it! "Hah!" he cries, one vicious fist blow only able to be exerted!
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d20 and gets 13." [1d20=13]
> roll 1d4+5
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d4+5 and gets 9." [1d4=4]
9 damage to Aesop! OW!
The blow crushes most of Aesop's halfing face, nose and mouth nothing but bloody crunches! "Pathetic! You hit like a blubbering goblin!"
Initiative.
> roll 1d10+3 punching go!
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d10+3 punching go! and gets 6." [1d10=3]
* Hatbot --> "Dracos rolls 1d10-2! Fuck daggers, RUN FOR THE DOOR FULL SPEED KNOCKING EVERYTHING BEHIND ME DOWN and gets Error: Numeric values only." [1d10=10]
Bad guy>Aesop. This is gonna hurt.
> roll 1d20
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d20 and gets 3." [1d20=3]
> roll 1d20
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d20 and gets 12." [1d20=12]
> roll 1d4+5 condolences, good first run.
<Dracos> which means he probably hits and kills me with just his strength mod.
* Hatbot --> "Anastasia rolls 1d4+5 condolences, good first run. and gets 9." [1d4=4]
As Aesop tries to run, his world become a haze of red and black! Only pain sustains him as his flesh once again dies! "Hah! Nothing! Nothing but sniveling children! Why did the Dark One deign to save you from oblivion?"
Then nothing at all, until the field of stars...

Locking the topic now. Good first run, made it to the boss. Well played overall. You're learning.
