Am I the only person watching this? Tell me I'm not the only person watching this. This show kicks so much ass.
When I was first watching it I thought "This is how Gundam Seed Destiny would have been if Shinn was borderline evil, the characters didn't all look the same, the was some actual style, the fights didn't recycle frames, they removed all the suck, and replaced it with badass and awesome."
Having watched episode five I have to say its much, MUCH better than that. A show where the protagonist (I hesitate to call him a hero) has a backbone like a mountain range, doesn't angst over getting his hands dirty, and is shown to be INTELLIGENT rather than us just being told it wins on multiple levels.
The CLAMP character designs have dropped back closer to their X/1999 style (with a bit of the Tsubasa rounding the edgeds off) so it looks stylish rather than noodly.
The in-story, op, and ending music is good, sets the mood greatly, and I can see myself picking up the cd just for the battle theme. I haven't felt that way about a robot show's music in a long time.
You can already feel that the show is going to blow up once the relationships between the two mains and the Britainnia royalty comes to light.
About the only thing bad I can say about the show is that the Britainnians so far are pretty unsimpathetic. Evil even. Which is something of the point, but they feel a bit carboard-y right now. However, as it seems we will be getting to see both sides of the conflict thanks to main number 2 I'm certain they'll flesh out just fine.
If you're still reading this and don't know what to think, download all five episodes NOW. Believe me, after the first episode you'll be fiending for more. After episode 2, there is no turning back.
No, you're not the only watching it. >_>
I think Code Geass rocks. It has a very unique premise for a mecha anime. As someone else described the main character Lelouch...
Shinn Asuka + Light Yagami/Kira = Lelouch
The animation is great (I naturally favor hand drawn mecha to CG) and the storyline seems solid so far. All the characters are very endearing so far, especially C.C.. The way she gets under Lelouch's skin amuses me to no end.
P.S.
Oh, and if Kwok stumbles in with a 'Code Gayass! Dur hur hur' comment, kick him in the face. >_>
Incidentally, the word has a meaning in English, relevant to its usage in the series. I don't think it's pronounced or spelled the same way, though ....

Just watched episode 6. It amazes me that an episode in which VERY LITTLE actually happens can feel so full. Also, shocked Lelouch is hilarious.
Anyone else find the Pizza Hut adverts funny? I especially loved Lelouch's "I'm saving some points." It goes beyond annoying to outright hilarious.
Episodes 10-11 have been some of the best yet. They have just about everything I love about this show in them. Zero plotting, C.C. being C.C.ish, Lancelot vs Mark battling it out in a incredibly well animated fight scene, mysteries on top of mysteries, and Good and Bad guys with character that shine.
They've managed to escape the Destiny of a certain Gundam franchise by having both sides with characters you can get behind, even if you don't agree with them. And through it all they still manage to hold on to the sense of facing overwhelming odds. Oddly enough, I hadn't realised that Zero didn't know who was piloting the Lancelot. Weird that I missed that.
Anyway, I'm hyped for the next episode.
mmm, interesting and properly named, if a touch wacky with the writing at points.

Damn but episode 16 rocked. Big revelations and more Lulu bad-assery.
Caught up. 16 was pretty awesome. But I don't understand what the heck happened with the whole superspeed the guy did. Why was that there?

Code Geass is a Sunrise show. Their trademark of late has been to "Jump the shark" if you know what I mean. You need only look at series such as Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny as examples of this. I assure you having someone suddenly gain inhuman speed is NOTHING compared to some of the downright illogical stuff that happens in those series.
If you want a simpler explanation though he's a martial artist and as everyone knows martial artist gain massive bonuses to their speed stat in anime and manga. ;p
Sincerely,
Shuten

I laughed because it's true. ^_^
Personally, I thought it was just another "Lulu is smart, but Other-Guy is strong" moment to distinguish the two further. Neither is exacty Kira here (THANK YOU, GOD!). It isn't like we've gotten to see any other soldiers fight outside of their mechs.
Well, 17 rocked. Pulled some plot points together. Pulled the rug from under Lulu's feet.
Another recap next week. Kinda sucks, but what are you going to do, right?
Anyone know how many episodes this is slated to run? Sometimes it feels like a 26 run, and other times like a 50 run. I'm hoping 50.

This is Lulu, he'll bounce back quickly enough. ^^;

Technically "next week" has already occured in Japan if you know what I mean. ^^;

I don't know for certain but I'd place my money on 26 myself.

Shuten
I would as well.
Or 52 if they come up with another season of conflict, but I'm not seeing them caring that much.

From what I understand of this setup, after the current series ends (whether with 26 or 52 eps, I don't know) they'll be a 'break' of about one season, and then a second Code Geass series will air. This is similar in setup to the Tsubasa Chronicle anime.
Odds are...I don't know if I'd care that long.
Haven't seen 22, but the last few have really...kinda been meh.
"Ooh, teamwork". I can see them with two seasons only because they have a lot of loose ends to wrap up in 4 eps though and not even the remotest plan of going after either of the top two shown so far as well as the whole ruins angle they tossed in recently.

The current series is set to run twenty-five episodes. Once the current series ends it will go on hiatus. A sequel is planned but what form it will take is not entirely known. It will most likely be a tv series again though.
Sincerely,
Shuten
Edit: It has recently come to my attention that episodes 24 & 25 will not be airing until the summer of 2007. Details can be found here (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2007/03/29/random-musings-geass-episodes-24-25-to-air-in-summer/).
I just saw ep 22 of Code Geass. Lelouch is such a fucking screw up. You don't just say stuff casually that will bite you in the ass when you can do what Lelouch can! >_<
*sigh* I guess I'll go watch ep 23, but it's seriously going to suck waiting for ep 24-25 with what's happened. Especially if they're not gonna show until summer like a couple of subbers of the show are saying.
I forget where I stopped after 22 or whether it kept going, but this has sort of left my radar. As is apparently classic for this studio they ground it into something I didn't care about. From the early hints of Lelouch playing an increasingly deadly game against royal superiors to him, it really didn't deliver. I'll probably whip up a review later.
