Think achievements in Xbox games. As you play through the game, you pick up tokens of various colors for performing certain objectives (blue for lore scans, red for enemy scans, yellow for boss kills). You also get green Friend Vouchers for performing various feats in the game, like juggling a target dummy on the very first ship 20 times - there are quite a number of others, but that's the general idea. Those vouchers can be traded with someone else who owns the game in order to get green tokens, and with tokens of all four colors you can start buying the bonuses that come with the game.
