Title: The Wilhelm Estate
Post by: Dracos on March 11, 2003, 12:39:41 PM
Dear Mr. or Ms. Wilhelm Family member,

I regretfully inform you that your dear patriarch, Mr. Johan Wilhelm, has recently become deceased.  As per his last will and testament I am inviting each of you to his estate for the unveiling of the remainder of his last will and testament.  According to the information contained within the section that was given to me, one of you shall be chosen to be his heir and sole recipient of his wealth and estate.  Should this individual not show up at the estate at the time of the opening of the box containing his last will and testament, then it shall go to the next designated heir in the contained within the box.  The rest of you will be delivered home after this event, reimbursed for your time by funds set aside by the late Mr. Wilhelm.  The box shall be opened in one month to the time of sending of this letter.  I do hope you can all attend.

From, your loyal butler,
Sarego

Okay, we got a murder mystery type game on our hands.  First off, only at least moderately skilled gamers need apply.  I'm not dealing with newbies here.  If you don't know how to stay in character and not use OOC knowledge at all, don't even bother applying.  The game will not run will if players cannot avoid using OOC knowledge in the game.  I'm looking for about seven players.  Each built to be in a realistic worldset.  You are a relatively normal human individual.  There will be no magic, no psionics, or any of that stuff here.  Make your character's deep, this will be a heavy role playing game from beginning to end.  As usual I will be utilizing my diceless system, role playing will be everything here.  I will also be keeping my standard two day posting requirement.  if you do not believe that you can post generally at least once every two days, do not apply for this game.

Now, for the interesting part.  Of the seven of you, one of you will secretly be told by me after the beginning of the game that you are the murderer.  You will not only assassinate our dear butler Sarego, but also the rest of your cherished family members.  After all, if you are the only one left, the treasure and the estate is all yours.  Quite a worthwhile prize you are going after.

The others, they have a different goal.  They must find the key!  Only sarego had it, and it will be lost during the beginning of the game.  Your objective will be to find it within the huge mansion, while figuring out who killed Sarego and protect yourself from the same fate.  The game is effectively over if you can open the box and discover who is the heir.  Or is it...

Again, only moderately experienced or better gamers need apply.  This won't start for a while as I'm going to be scripting out every room for this game, it's going to be big and it's going to take me a while.  All characters are expected to feel like real human beings and have depth.  Work on your characters a lot before submitting them.

Yes, I know the setup is slightly cliche, but I think it could be a real fun game.  Hoping for a good turn out of players.  Need a minimum of five to run it.  Post interest if you are willing to join up.

Addendum: Consider it to be a modern rpg being held in a 1800's style estate.  Also note you aren't going to be expecting to fight there.  Anyone who comes to me with twenty guns on their character sheet will have me personally fly out to find them and put a bullet between their eyes.  Be real people here.  Anything from a politician to a country hick boy is good.  You are all related, but it's a vague relation.  Some might be brother and sister if you want.  Most presumably will be as far as third or fourth cousins, once or twice removed.

A chance to work on my character building skills is always good. Count me interested.

How will you be hiding the murderer's actions from everyone else?

Some of it will be done off camera, but primarily it will simply be the fact that you'll be expected to be ignoring stuff that is out of character knowledge.  That is why I said only moderately experienced or better gamers need apply.

To be more clear on this point, I intend to put a lot of work into this game.  I will also close it the second I see out of character knowledge being used in character.  Whoever I believe has crossed the line on this will be noted, and I will be rather furious.  This isn't a beginner rpg.  It is meant for people who are very serious about staying in role and playing it to the hilt.

I expect it to be quite a bit of fun.

This certainly sounds like a great deal of fun.  I am going to try to put together a robust character in the next day or two.  If you approve of it, then I'll be interested in playing.

I mean, it sounds like fun. ^^;

It does sound rather fun, and a character idea immediately screamed at me when I saw this. Not sure if I'll be able to join though, it depends on the timing of when it starts. Put me down as a maybe for now.

Okay, it will likely start around a month/month and a half from now.  I have to map it first.  Significantly map it which will take me a lot of time.  This is of course assuming that schoolwork does not get to the point where my ability to work on mapping it is reduced to nilch.  At the very latest, it'll start beginning of this summer.  At the earliest, around a month or so from today.

Regarding those who've applied for the slots so far:

Ranma007, think you are good to go.  Good luck, you can start on your character.

Thepanda, also good to go.  Good luck, hope to see something nifty out of ya.

Kpjam, you are good to go.  Feel free to make your character whenever.

Inuyasha-chan, given what I've seen from you in chat and talking with you, I'll take it as a given that you are you good enough.  If you have a link to another online rpg you've played, I'd appriciate it (More to be prepared for any quirks in your playing style or address any necessities beforehand) but you are otherwise good to go.  Feel free to make your character ^_^.

Merc, glad to hear it.  You are in.  Can't wait to see what you came up with.

Jeram, I'm sorry.  The last campaign I've seen you in was Saviours.  I was not impressed in the least.  I think you aren't quite up to the level of skill that this campaign will be requiring yet.  Perhaps you can try playing in a more beginner friendly campaign first and build up your skills, then ask again with a better example of recent playing to show off.  You are currently not approved for this rpg.

Wow, the slots are filling up fairly quickly.  I will say that I will allow people who want to join after the slots fill up to request it and prepare a character in case someone else drops out right before, or at the beginning of the game.

*pops up and debates* Mmm... to return to running in an RPG or nay.... decisions decisions... well it would most likely end up being with better partners' than my last few experiences in an RPG run by Dracos... no offense to the GM (except that one little complaint I had with FM that was throughly discussed) solely onto those players I was joined with...

Okay, that's cool.  You are good to go Chi.

Same with you Corwin.  And that fills the initial seven slots.  Cool, that was incredibly fast.

As I said, in the case that one of the players has to withdraw, I will allow others to get on a waiting list for this.  If you are on it, it's generally a good idea to be prepared to produce a character if told that you are playing.

Good luck everyone, I see I have my work cut out for me to produce a great estate for you guys to play in ^_^.

I mostly role play on delphi right now, and yes, I admit it, they're sailormoon role plays but that's besides the point. ¬_¬  As well as an Utena one and once upon a time, Inuyasha and Escaflowne.  If you're interested in seeing some links, I'll provide a few.

They're probablly not proper examples of the full bredth of characters and situations I can play in, as they are all shoujo-type settings, but I've also role played in other places over the years, most of which don't actually exist anymore. Yippy.

Plus, if YOU could provide me with a good link or two, I'd like to check out an idea of how you guys play. If I know what your basic styles are like, I can adjust. I'm flexible that way.

I know tomb and saviours have everyone except Chi, Chi's you can see in Carnival, and I would suppose you're familiar with mine from the IY rpg back when it was alive (I want it back! it was fun! ;_;). Ranma007 is the only one I would not know where you could see his playing style.

Additional information:

All of you will be expected to be playing a character with at least a rudimentary grasp of either german or english.  Something to let you communicate.  You will ALSO be expected to play this.  Meaning if one of you speaks English fluently, but not German, and the other speaks German fluenty, but not English, you'll just have to work with it.  I'll expect that with those requirements in place, most of you will manage to be able to communicate without trouble and those who do have trouble, well, Role Play it! ^_^

The castle/estate will be in Bavaria, Germany.  Specifically south of the city of Weilheim.  You'll have procured plane tickets and transportation of one way fashion or another to get there.  You will need to discuss your transportation plans with me as I'll need them for the opening scenes.

As I've been asked several times regarding relationships: First come, first serve.  Whoever gets in a character sheet and gets it approved first, will have priority.  If you are playing characters that are closely related you will be informed of this and told to work together to develop a mutually agreeable history to present for approval of your time together.

The work on the maps have begun.  It'll take a while as it's quite a bit of work, but hey, that's half the fun!

*can no longer play...*

I found out thursday night that my girlfriend, whom I loved dearly, along with two girls that were also my friends was killed in a car crash... and from my understanding... the police believe it was intentional...

And I could be there neither for her last moments... nor for the funeral... so.. yeah....

Current Completion Rate: Just about 6 percent.  Yeah, I'm slow, but this is a huge amount of space to detail.  It'll be awesome when it's done.  ^_^

I've not had the time/energy to really focus on drawing and working on this.  It's not dead, but it's delayed.
