<Merc> As the gas starts to clear, sinking to the ground and dissipating, Anassia notes gaps forming in some areas of the walls as people begin to appear. There are six men, all armed with spears, and two women, also with spears. One of the men gives out commands to the others, as one of the women and two men head down the corridor Maya went running. The others begin to cautiously move towards Anassia and the fallen Aleph and Elise.
* Anassia eyes them momentarily, remaining still for the moment as they approach the better to take them by surprise!
<Merc> ooc: how close are you letting them approach?
<Merc> The group slowly approach closer as Anassia stands still, potentially giving the impression of also having been downed by the poison cloud attack. As they get closer though...
<Merc> ooc: You get a surprise action, then init if you're fighting.
<Anassia> Abruptly, power begins to encompass one of her hands, firing it at the ringleader!  Because without their chain of command, clearly they would panic and be nonthreatening!

<Merc> Maybe some of the gas got into Anassia's body, but the spell zooms forward...and though it almost misses, it strikes! The element of surprise made up the lousy aim, as even cautious, he fails to dodge the quick spell.

<Merc> The strike goes straight for her stomach, the spear piercing into her abdomen! He didn't seem to hit anything critical, you'd almost think it hurts less than the attack that first hit you, though it certainly hurts plenty on it's own!

* Anassia does not like being stabbed, no thank you. She wince and cries out slightly as she is stabbed by their spears, moving her hand to the dagger at her side, drawing it swiftly as her eyes shift to match her blood in color, glowering to the four as the torch lies on the floor. "Bad call," she hisses out softly. ((Draw for move, AC boost for Standard ist alles))
<Merc> As Anassia goes on the defensive, Maya starts to act, rushing back to rescue her abandoned teammates! But there's a group of three spear-wielders on the way!
<Merc> ooc: Remember, there's a 10-ft width on the corridors, so two mooks are side by side, with one behind them.
<Maya_Mahabala> "Anassia?  She's the only one that stood up?"  Maya clucked her tongue, tapping her foot on the ground.  "Out of may way little boys," She dashed by them, weaving between them with ease as she moved to get close to Anassia, her blade sliding out as she slipped around, her blade suddenly slashing up into the stomach of one of the spear wielding savages attacking Anassia. It probably comes down to 'skewer the little bitch!' or something to that effect, though the remaining lonely mook goes off to assist the away team, so there was probably something there too. Meanwhile, he goes stabbity on Anassia's ass.

<Merc> It's a pretty tough time for the group of heroes from Adallia, as two of them are currently unconscious from poison, one is missing, and of the remaining two, one is heavily injured. But they currently have a chance to breath freely while the enemies are away, probably figuring what to do with their trap's failure (for the most part).
* Anassia will be overseeing the two utterly passed out, burning reserve points to gradually take her back from the brink of death. Because being stabbed is not good fun for the family.
<Merc> Elise and Aleph both look to be in pain, twitching and shivering, as the poison makes their way through their body, doing more damage.
* Anassia will try to get them as comfortable as they can be on the stone floor, covering them with whatever blankets or cloth she has on hand; this is hardly the most ideal place for treatment but it's not like they have much of a choice in the matter, unfortunately.
<Merc> Maya watches silently as Anassia tries to take care of the others, though mostly keeping an eye out for further attacks, her hands lingering on her blade, ready to slice at anybody that approaches.

Remembering the last time Elise fell to the poison, they really should be doing okay...though it should still be a few hours until they awake. And who knows if they have the time for that...
<Merc> "How are they doing?" Maya asks, still keeping watch for more of the cultists' spearmen.
<Anassia> "I don't think they're going to die," Anassia says simply, "but it will be a while before they wake, I think..."
<Merc> Maya frowns but nods. "We did have some of those guys get away, so we might have more to deal with soon..." she comments.
* Anassia nods slightly. "We can't just leave them here, either," she says simply.
<Merc> "I can probably defend us, they didn't seem that tough..." Maya notes, perhaps a little thoughtlessly given Anassia's injuries. "Though we could try to drag them back to the entrance, if it's even open, or maybe just slap them awake..."
* Anassia eyes Maya slightly. "Let's get them back to the entrance first," she says softly. Naturally, she is going to do the heavy lifting, given Ana's state.

* Elise looks at the two of them, especially Anassia, and then back at Aleph. "Are you sure she wasn't? Something definitely happened ot her."
<Merc> "We took care of most of them, two got away though," Maya explains.
<Anassia> "We killed a bunch of them," Anassia says, wincing as she straightens up.  "We just dragged you back here where it was safe.  And watch out for their spears."
<Elise> "I will break their little spears if they try to bring them anywhere near us," Elise says with confidence. "If any of them are still alive, at least."
<Aleph> "Jack's still missing, I see."
<Merc> "I haven't seen him since we started fighting the guards outside," Maya agrees.
<Anassia> "I don't know where he is," Anassia says, shaking her head slightly as she gingerly leans against the wall.  "He's safer for not being in here, though..."
<Elise> "Are you alright, Anassia? Stay behind the rest of us if we find more enemies!"
<Anassia> "I'll be fine," she says, waving off the concern idly.  "We need to figure out what we are going to do,"
<Elise> "Well, we should probably find their leader and beat him up. But I already smacked that evil priest, didn't I?"
<Aleph> "I'd say that we should probably find a way out first.  There's got to be something, somewhere, that acts as a secondary entrance and exit..."
* Anassia nods. "Lead on," she says, passing the torch to Aleph. "Let's just try to not find anyone else who wants to kill us
* Aleph takes it. "Someone else will need it if a fight breaks out. I can't fire a bow in one hand, you know."
<Elise> "I'll go in front," Elise volunteers. "I'm unwounded. If we meet anyone, I'll knock them down!"
* Anassia will hand her the torch, then. "You do that," she says, wincing as she straightens again.
* Elise takes it, and looks around. OOC: what are the ways out of this room, now?
<Merc> ooc: You guys are back in the entrance. At the end of the corridor were two directions. The left is the route you took first, and Maya explored a bit further in. There's also those 'hidden' passages in the walls where the enemy came from to beat up on Anassia. The right went unexplored.
<Merc> ooc: Notably, you wouldn't know anything about hidden passages of course, or Maya's exploration of more endless corridors.
<Aleph> "Okay...left or right...flip a coin?"
<Elise> "We can't leave without finding Jack," Elise says. "So for now we keep exploring!" Elise marches down the rightmost path.
<Aleph> "...guess Right."  Aleph keeps a lookout as rear-guard for the party, bow in hand
* Anassia will follow behind Elise. Honestly, she would mind a little knockout gas for herself, but eeeh.
<Merc> Maya goes along quietly, taking up the rear!
<Merc> It's a lot of nondescript stone corridors. At least there's no hissing behind walls though. There's still those pesky little airholes, so there's always a possibility of another poison cloud attack. But onward they carry on! Sooner or later, the twisting corridors must lead somewhere!
<Aleph> "Hell.  Do they have any reason to make it this mazelike in here?"
<Anassia> "Makes it hard for intruders to get anywhere," Anassia guesses.
<Elise> "Yes, it's obviously to confuse invaders who might stop by to smite them for their evil snake-worshipping ways. No matter, we shall persevere!"
<Aleph> "You'd think it'd make it a pain for them to get around in their own place, though."
<Anassia> "They probably don't come this way often or have memorized the path."
<Aleph> "I mean, 'hi, welcome to the snake cult wehre we poison people.  now live in this maze'"
<Merc> "I'm sure once they've lived here a while, they probably know how to navigate the place, Aleph," Maya notes.
<Aleph> "Once they have, sure.  Just saying that it must be hell for them to get new recruits."
<Merc> "Unless they brainwash them! Oh, that was probably what the poison gas is for. First they gas you, then they brainwash you," Maya jokes.
<Aleph> "...actually, that makes a frightening amount of sense."
* Anassia will shake her head slightly, burying another grimace as she continues to make her way behind the others (and ahead of others)

<Merc> Swish! An arrow slams into the cultist's head as he drops to his knee, bleeding from his skull, before slamming to the ground, the smoke clearing.
<Aleph> "...you know, when I threw that smoke bomb, I did not intend to actually FIGHT those guys." Aleph glared at Maya and Elise
<Elise> "How else were we supposed to get past them?"
* Aleph facepalms in an epic manner
<Merc> "It wasn't to have them choke on gas in revenge for their poison trap?" Maya asks.
<Aleph> "No, it wasn't.  It was so we could sneak by them."
* Elise shrugs, retrieves the torch from where she dropped it, and continues on. "I'm not very good at sneaking. I am very good at hitting people. Let's keep going."
<Aleph> "I'm just glad they didn't notice Anassia."
<Merc> "...when have we ever snuck past anything? Remember the giant lizard?" Maya points out to Aleph, before nodding her head towards Elise.

* Navilee idly pats Aleph's shoulder as she moves to follow. "It was a good idea," she offers.

<Merc> As the smoke clears, the area shows itself to be a more open room, certainly more space to move around. To the left are a set of stairs leading downward, to the right are a set of stairs leading further up. There is also a corridor up ahead, on the opposite side of the room.
<Aleph> "Alright.  Up, down, or straight ahead?"
<Elise> "We should go down," Elise says. "they might have a dungeon where they keep their sacrifical victims. Dungeons are always underground, right?"
* Navilee shrugs slightly. "They probably all lead to a further maze," she comments flatly.
<Aleph> "We may also run into a giant murdersnake."
* Elise shrugs. "We killed the last one."
<Aleph> "I don't really feel like getting gassed again."
<Merc> Ooc: Navilees shrugs! log note!
<Navilee> "If we can get outside, I can have that snake help us, but I don't think either way will be as convienient."
<Elise> "Well, how do you plan to stop that anyway, if it happens again? We don't have any choice but to keep going. Unless you just want to leave Jack here."
<Merc> "One of the routes probably goes and circles to the left path where we were ambushed earlier, I bet," Maya notes. "The question is which of the three will loop."
<Aleph> "...downstairs would most likely lead at some point to that big hole in the side."
* Aleph would note, "At the same time, there's the likelihood for a way out on top as well."
<Elise> "I want to see what's in the dungeon," Elise says, descending. "And if no one else is going to make a decision, I'm just going to go."
<Aleph> "..." Aleph just follows.
* Navilee shrugs. Simply following Elise with no direction or reason has never had drawbacks before, right?
* Navilee is now known as Anassia
<Merc> Down the stairs they go! The stairs circle around, as they slowly descend, until they arrive at a ledge overlooking a large hall, with stairs going from the sides of the ledge leading downward. Down in the hall were a bunch of the lightly dressed cultists around a bonfire, dancing and praying. A set of stairs on the opposite wall led elsewhere as well, and they could spy a large, very large, group of the spearmen going up them. [ooc - more]
<Merc> Various small serpents slithered around the ground, beneath the feet of the cultists, moving around, never getting stepped on and never retaliating with bites. It gave the impression of a moving floor almost. Three large holes were in the wall, with large metal bars serving as cages, as two huge snakes like Anassia's undead pet were slithering behind two of the cages. The other empty one...well, Anassia did have a new pet! [ooc - more]
<Merc> On a platform between the bonfire and the cages stood three individuals, better dressed than the others, chanting in that strange language.
