It's 'Notch'.

And he stepped down five days ago. >.>

But alright. :p

Dracos

The boss shall be FailDracos.

Beware, his opening attack is: Unending Victory Paradigm - Drac always wins.

Huh, really though, Notch stepped down from his super-behemoth company?
Well, Goodbye.

Brian

I'm not wholly clear on it -- I believe he's still in charge of design, but he's delegated lead programming to Jeb?

Admittedly, as much as I'm enjoying the game, it's not enough for me to bother investigating further. :p

We have a portal to The End now open! Should probably see about getting a time organized for folks that want to have a hand in taking out the Enderdragon.
I am a terrible person.
Excellent Youkai.

Brian

I gotta get a diamond sword, now.  I mean, if you can't lose THAT in The End, what CAN you lose?

Exploration/Raid mod discussion from IRC

Spoiler: ShowHide

<Fujisawa> ATTN: Minecrafters:
<Fujisawa> http://www.cogscomic.com/Artifact/Design_Doc_Artifact.jpg
<Fujisawa> Thoughts?
* Fujisawa really likes the idea of building a museum to house these.
<jon> i've seen this
<jon> unfortunately, I think it requires a client mod
<Fujisawa> Ah.
<Fujisawa> I also don't like that the bennies come from holding them.
<jon> basically anything with new block types requires a client mod
<jon> which is why economy mods tend to rely on /commands in chat
<Fujisawa> Yeah ... interesting, but not that multiplayer friendly.
<Onigiri> Combine that insanely rare thing with all your items vanishing shortly after dying... nope
<Fujisawa> Yeah.  I was thinking about that.
<Fujisawa> I do like the idea of mysterious hidden things for us to find and collect.
<Fujisawa> But I'd rather have, say, us build a museum, and having it stocked benefits the entire server without carrying things.
<Onigiri> Oh sure, being entirely optional I don't have a problem with it being there.
<jon> Fujisawa: hm, interesting mod idea
<Fujisawa> So there's a reason to get a bunch of players to gather/collect things.
<Fujisawa> Everyone benefits.
<Fujisawa> That one ... kinda sucks if one guy gets the helm, someone else has the sword, etc.
<Fujisawa> And if one dude falls into lava while carrying, well, _anything_....
<Onigiri> I like the unbreakable pick.
<Onigiri> I would like to be able to craft that.
<Fujisawa> Yeah....
<@jon> Fujisawa: i could write a server-only mod for that
<Fujisawa> For which?
<@jon> probably reuse the spawner block type
<@jon> your proposed idea
<Fujisawa> What about using ... let's see.  Bedrock?
<Fujisawa> Just make sure it occurs higher up -- above, say, 10, below 30?
<Fujisawa> Spawner would probably work, too, but might alarm some players. :p
<@jon> yeah, i was just thinking of it being visually distinctive
<@jon> maybe a golden block surrounded by glass blocks?
<@jon> and when you get it, you have to then make it back to the museum alive with it, or it goes back to another dungeon somewhere
<@jon> and while you're carrying it, it causes more monsters to spawn near you
<@jon> raid mod!
<@jon> "Spawners can be given unusual entity IDs like Minecart or Boat to make a decorative block with the named entity spinning inside the cage."
<@jon> there we go
<@jon> have a spawner with a Golden Apple inside it
<Fujisawa> Perfect.
<Fujisawa> Okay, then we need to figure out what qualifies as proper placement to provide the server buff.
<Fujisawa> I guess putting it on a pair of stone slabs (not cobblestone)?
<@jon> well, you spec it out and i'll build it?
<Fujisawa> Why don't we start discussing this in the minecraft thread?
<@jon> okay
<Fujisawa> Get some feedback on what other people think would be cool, too?
<Fujisawa> :D

Please comment.

Brian

Basically--  Minecraft is limited on co-op stuff, generally, beyond, "Check out what I built!"

I'd like to expand on this, and some sort of simplified 'Artifact' mod where we collect Items of Power and place them somewhere that buffs the entire server (well, the players, anyway) sounds like a good step in that direction.

> Reading the Minecraft thingy ma bobber.
> I'll have some feedback in a few.
> What about having the server admin being able to designate buildings as specific things? Like, once complete, they can sort of check the box that we have a museum built and the server gives a bonus to.. say.. refined construction materials durability or something. Stone/bricks get more durability.
> (I don't know if such a thing is possible; not a programmer type)
> Each building does something different. An actual community forge would increase ingot/metal durability for picks, shovels, swords, and armor.
> Ect.
<Kuyou> Post in the thread about it.
<Kuyou> I like that idea.
<Kuyou> I think what we'd do is we'd put a furnace in there.
<Kuyou> And it'd be a special one that provided a server buff as long as we kept it stocked with iron.
<Kuyou> And then we could make a lumbermill.  Those would increase mining/wood harvesting respectively.
<Kuyou> It'd burn slower than a regular furnace, so putting (for example) a full stack of iron in would last more than a day.
<Kuyou> How's that sound?
> Yeah, that sounds pretty solid. It'd require everyone to contribute to feeding it all.

What say ye?
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.

Brian

Ideas: A furnace that allows you to convert a full stack of coal into a single diamond.

Also, Onigiri, sorry about your animals -- your livestock pen was poorly lit and filled up with creepers.  I repaired it while we were redoing the melon farm in stone (creeper took out the melon chest -- very annoying).

Additionally, death-by-lava needs to be examined, re: And you lose all your stuff.

Just got a totally BS death by being arrow-pinged into a lava pool, and then shoved back in by skelly knockback so I couldn't even burn to death where my hour+ of loot could (maybe) be picked back up.  I understand challenge and all, but that's too severe a penalty when it's frequently entirely an RNG issue that's entirely out of player hands.

Death in general is going to be slightly nerfed as soon as Bukkit is available: I'm installing a mod that puts all your stuff in a chest when you die.

Brian

I'm not sure that handles lava, though.

Edit: Death-by-lava is sad.  But it's the destruction of all your gear, too, that bugs me.

Dracos

That's a nice everything you have there.

Shame if anything was to happen to...

*Alt-F4, Screwyou*
Well, Goodbye.

Okay, who went off and explored in a square shape?
