I was pleasantly surprised by the reaction.  I could easily see a lesser writer taking it in a different direction.

This one's great. The dialogue is amazing and the world's interesting.

I like to imagine Cauldron won via figuring out a way to take out Scion via biological warfare. It's a neat way to imagine it shaking out and now we get to see the aftermath.

That one's okay, somewhere around 6/10? It doesn't excel to me, but it's competent and has a plot going. It lacks that certain je nais se quoi to put it above average. All the pieces are there but it doesn't quite live up to the sum of its parts, let alone exceed it. No idea why.

I like to read the Interludes of that fic and skim the actual chapters. Everyone's more interesting than the OC to me. It has the only Mouse Protector I've ever liked plus everyone else is good. That's a weird one, no doubt about it.

I've been reading more translated novels of late.

I'm Really a Superstar is a Chinese Light Novel featuring a young man in the modern era who is sent to another world, and who has an RPG-like trade-XP-for-bonuses system.  Our hero lusts for glory, and this is a story of how he tries to get it.

But this story doesn't involve gaining levels, killing monsters, or anything of that sort.  One increases XP by increasing one's reputation and entertainment contribution.  The battle is not across a blood-soaked field for treasure, but across the airwaves and internet for hearts and minds and personal fandom.  Naturally, the hero, like any upstanding Chinese citizen, finds his way to success through his unceasing hard workrampant IP piracy. 

I find it hilarious, and while it relies a little too much on plot-driven coincidence to move the story along, it's one of the few translations I look forward to reading.



Now, that said, I know that "tales of celebrity entertainment" may not seem like a sure winner to the SR crowd.  So here's a Korean-novel that might be a little more in line with everyone's interests: Game Market 1983 about a frustrated game dev who goes back in time and drives "M"intendo's to success.  Not too far along with the translation yet, and I like the former a bit better, but it seems like it could be fun.

Shard attunement makes sense to me based where the fic is. I always thought Contessa was more her shard with a few fragments of Fortuna left, so I can buy all this. The confrontation with Eidolon was incredibly ugly. I agree with a lot of what was said (on both sides), but wow.

Not really sure what to think of the chapter overall. Needs time to digest.
