Session Start: Sun Oct 23 20:52:24 2005
Session Ident: #kotb
* Now talking in #kotb
* Seriumu (Dizzy@ip64-75-150-55.dial.aloha.net) has joined #kotb
* Rakhal-Home (WinNT@cpc1-hatf3-6-0-cust124.lutn.cable.ntl.com) has joined #kotb
* Iddy (iron_drago@c-67-163-114-219.hsd1.tx.comcast.net) has joined #kotb
* Iddy is now known as Celanyth
* Rakhal-Home is now known as Chandor
* Seriumu is now known as Hidoyou
* Chandor wakes up and heads towards the chapel
<Sailor_Dragon> The chapel is open already, and the smell of burning incense fills the lofty building
* Chandor is perturbed, after having many disturbing dreams of zebras. Fortunately the incense calms his nerves and he goes looking for the chaplain and the hunter.
<Sailor_Dragon> There are many small altars before statues of the well-known gods lining the chapel walls, and Abercrombie can be seen filling little flasks with holy water from the font up at the far end
<Sailor_Dragon> "Good morning," he calls.
* thorn (user@eddore.NMSU.Edu) has joined #kotb
<thorn> join #kotb-oc
<Chandor> Good morning to you! I hope you had a good night.
* thorn blearily stretches. "I've slept better"
<Sailor_Dragon> "I slept well, thank you." Abercrombie says.   I understand there was some kind of hullaballoo in the town overnight, but it didn't wake me."
<Chandor> Hmm, didn't wake me either, although I did dream of zebras. Is the hunter here?
<Sailor_Dragon> "Of course.   He's made his offering to the gods in thanks for good hunting, and I detained him in my own quarters before he leaves to celebrate with the fruit of the vine."
<Chandor> Let us go speak with the good hunter then.
<Sailor_Dragon> Abercrombie beckons to you to follow him downstairs into his quarters.   "I live in what was meant to be the crypt ; no one was ever buried there, and it has good soundproofing, so I thought why not?"
<Sailor_Dragon> The living space is very roomy, and lit from small windows high up in the walls.
* Chandor is rather twitchy about this, but attempts to hide it and says 'Indeed. Fine accomodations you have here'
<Sailor_Dragon> Abercrombie leads you to the kitchen, where there is a nice fire, with the kettle warming over it
<Sailor_Dragon> By the fire, sits a hunter.   He's tall and thin, with windburned skin.
<Sailor_Dragon> A bow and arrows sit on the table nearby, along with the tea things and a plate of biscuits
* Chandor bows politely and waits to be introduced.
<Sailor_Dragon> "Now, Brother Chandor, this is Cob.   Cob, this is Brother Chandor, the priest I told you about."
<Sailor_Dragon> The hunter nods.   "How do."
<Chandor> Good morning. I have been told that you know about the Caves of Chaos. I will likely have to go that way soon, and any information you have about it would be very useful.
<Sailor_Dragon> "Aye," he says.
<Sailor_Dragon> "I bin there."
<Sailor_Dragon> He mulls this over for a while
<Chandor> Are there many unfriendly inhabitants?
<Sailor_Dragon> He nods.   "There's a parcel of bad uns that way, sir."
<Chandor> What sort of inhabitants?
<Sailor_Dragon> "I seen the bandits often enough, but there's gnolls too."
<Sailor_Dragon> "And that there Goblinwater, it's ran red with blood three times this past month."
<Sailor_Dragon> "The bandits are bad enough, but the gnolls are proper woodsmen.   They don't take my furs, though, so it's live and let live between us."
<Chandor> Ah, so they won't attack if we leave them alone. Where are there camps? Where do you think we should avoid to avoid disturbing them?
<Sailor_Dragon> "I never saw any camps, but I reckon they live south of the river.   There's a ford a little way away that you sometimes see them at."
<Chandor> Hmm, do you know anything about a hidden temple around there?
<Sailor_Dragon> He shakes his head.   "No temples around here, sir."
<Chandor> Thank you very much. Can I get you anything for your trouble?
<Sailor_Dragon> He nods agreeably
<Sailor_Dragon> "Tell brother Chandor about the caves," Abercrombie prompts.
<Sailor_Dragon> "Oh, aye," he says.   "There's plenty of them all around the valley that the Goblinwater spring is in.   Too dangerous to get there now, with all these bandits.   Not worth it, anyway."
<Sailor_Dragon> "The animals are smarter than to go there, so there's no pelts."
<Chandor> Do you think there are other things there than the bandits and the gnolls?
<Sailor_Dragon> He looks puzzled.   "There's goblins.   But I never saw any."
<Chandor> Was just wondering what could scare all the animals away.
<Sailor_Dragon> "Dunno." he says.   "I never thought about it."
<Sailor_Dragon> "Cup of tea?" asks Abercrombie
<Sailor_Dragon> "Righto, reverend," Cob says
<Chandor> "Thank you very much", Chandor says
<Sailor_Dragon> Cob nods his approval to Chandor and takes a cup of tea
<Sailor_Dragon> "Ah!   You can't get a proper cuppa in the woods." he says
* Chandor drinks and agrees that the tea is very fine.
<Chandor> Is there some sort of main bandit camp I should be wary of?
<Sailor_Dragon> He shakes his head.  "I never saw it, but it can't be far from water."
<Chandor> Anything else odd about that area you can think of. All your information is most appreciated.
<Sailor_Dragon> He frowns and thinks so hard the veins stand out on his forehead.   After a minute or two, he finally says "Can't think of anything."
<Chandor> Well, thank you very much. Did you think of anything you'd like for your trouble?
<Sailor_Dragon> "Whatever suits you, sir," he replies
* Chandor gives the hunter a couple of silver and recommends an excellent tailor he knows.
<Sailor_Dragon> "Thank you kindly, sir," Cob says as he puts the silvers in his pouch
* Chandor thanks the hunter and Abercrombie once more and heads for the surface thankfully.
<Sailor_Dragon> Back at the Inn, thorn is having no success in communicating with the bouncer, and is probably relieved to see the others returning
* Celanyth continues sleeping, using the mug as a pillow.
* Hidoyou sits down uncomfortably at a table
* Hidoyou mutters to himself. "Guard the sausage..."
* Hidoyou looks for the innkeeper
* thorn asks hidoyou, "Could I have some of that sausage for the stew? Maybe she prefers stronger meat."
* Hidoyou stares blankly at thorn
<thorn> "That bouncer over there... I just want her to acknowledge me"
* Celanyth wakes up a bit.
<Celanyth> "Eh.. Wha.."
<thorn> "hey, celanyth, late night last night? You weren't here when I fell asleep."
* Hidoyou stands up and walks towards the innkeeper
<Celanyth> "Eh, kinda, yeah. I was looking for my next job."
<Sailor_Dragon> Wilf, the Innkeeper bows.   "How can I help you, Hidoyou?"
<Hidoyou> Where can I find merceneries in this town?
* Chandor returns and heads to the bar.
<thorn> "So, you and me, Celanyth, we're going to go clean the lady's water today, eh?"
<Hidoyou> I need able-bodied men to venture into the 'Caves of Chaos'...
<Chandor> I need to go there too, but there are apparently many bandits, some gnolls and possibly something else in the caves too.
* Hidoyou looks over at Chandor
* Chandor attempts to order something strong.
<Sailor_Dragon> "Mercenaries?   I don't think you can," he says,"but there are a few people who might do in a pinch."
* Hidoyou turns back to the innkeeper
<Hidoyou> Oh?
<Sailor_Dragon> Jess, the barmaid, serves Chandor with fortified wine
* Chandor pays for it (how much)
<Sailor_Dragon> "4 coppers, sir."
* Celanyth groggily looks at Thorn.
<Celanyth> "What? Water?"
<Sailor_Dragon> "Third might hire herself to you as a guard, I reckon, or Cob."
<thorn> "Hey, Jess, could you get my friend here some water?" I wave at her
<Hidoyou> Third? Cob?
<thorn> "So, when are we heading out, Celanyth?"
<Celanyth> "Uh, to where?"
<Chandor> Cob is the hunter I spoke to this morning. He knows the area of the caves.
<Sailor_Dragon> Jess brings over a pitcher of water, and places it along with a beaker at your table.
<Hidoyou> Hmm...
* Hidoyou turns to Chandor
* Celanyth pours some water and drinks it, waking up fully.
<Hidoyou> You are a healer, correct?
<Sailor_Dragon> "And you know Third, our doorwarden." Wilf says, pointing at the woman in the mask standing by the door
<Chandor> I know the healing arts, yes.
<Hidoyou> It seems our goals concurrent.
<Chandor> It would seem to, yes.
<Hidoyou> Would you travel with me?
<Chandor> Certainly. It sounds like the more we have in our party, the safer we will be.
* Hidoyou nods
<thorn> "You guys arne't helping Celanyth and me? But ... the nymph was so beautiful! Have you no heart?"
* thorn stares plaintively at hidoyou, my bishonen features puzzled and almost tearing up
<Celanyth> "Wait, I'm doing what in the where now?"
* Hidoyou ignores the elf and examines the bouncer
<thorn> "Drink your water, Celanyth, I guess it's fair that only we elves care about peace, beauty, and happiness in the world"
<Celanyth> "Uh.. What?"
* Celanyth looks at Thorn oddly.
* Hidoyou walks towards her
* thorn claps celanyth on the shoulder, and asks the innkeeper, "So, where's the Ware start?"
<Celanyth> "Oh. Her. Yeah.."
* Hidoyou asks the woman what her rates are
<Sailor_Dragon> "Oh," says Wilf, "she doesn't speak our language.   I'll get Jess to ask her."
<Hidoyou> What language does she speak?
<Sailor_Dragon> Jess intervenes.  "3 silvers a day, plus a half-share of the loot."
<thorn> "I knew it! She wasn't simply ignoring me, nobody could be that cruel."
<Sailor_Dragon> Wilf shrugs.   "No one knows."
* Celanyth whaps Thorn.
<Hidoyou> Well, this Jess must
<Sailor_Dragon> Jess shrugs.   "Not really ; she knows a bit of a sign language that they used to use in the west, though."
<Hidoyou> Hmm. An uncommunicative guard is useless
* Hidoyou turns away
<Sailor_Dragon> "She's quite good at teaching it.   A smart fellow like you could learn the sign language quickly enough."
<Hidoyou> Hm
<Hidoyou> Let's see about that first, then
* Hidoyou nods
<Hidoyou> A lesson
* Hidoyou turns back to the bouncer
<Sailor_Dragon> Third looks at Hidoyou
* Hidoyou watches Third's movements carefully
<Celanyth> roll 1d20 for the wisdom check
* Musk-bot --> "Celanyth rolls 1d20 for the wisdom check and gets 15."
<Hidoyou> roll 1d20
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d20 and gets 6."
<thorn> roll 1d20-1 for a wisdom check
* Musk-bot --> "thorn rolls 1d20-1 for a wisdom check and gets 1."
<Sailor_Dragon> Celanyth learns a few basic signs.
<Hidoyou> Hmph, whatever. I'm sure the inn needs to keep its bouncer regardless
<Celanyth> "No, no.. I think I'm getting it."
* Celanyth continues to study the hand motions.
<Hidoyou> Oh? Are you traveling with me?
<thorn> no, Celanyth is coming with me!
* Sailor_Dragon will have to go lie down quite soon
<Sailor_Dragon> My migraine is worsening as time passes
<Sailor_Dragon> Offer Celanyth a share of the rewards the nymph promised?
<Sailor_Dragon> </mischan>
<thorn> "Celanyth and I were talking about how to do this yesterday. I'll run out and buy a few nets at the market, and we'll get it cleaned in a day or two"
* Sailor_Dragon is now known as Sailor_Dragon[headache]
* Celanyth (iron_drago@c-67-163-114-219.hsd1.tx.comcast.net) has left #kotb
* Disconnected
