Prince Herb

Session Start: Sun Nov 20 20:58:59 2005
Session Ident: #kotb
* Now talking in #kotb
* elisteran is now known as thorn
* Rakhal (WinNT@cpc1-hatf3-6-0-cust124.lutn.cable.ntl.com) has joined #kotb
* Rakhal is now known as Chandor
* Seriumu is now known as Hidoyou
<Prince_Herb> Last time, our heroes stood at a junction in the corridor, and decided to go straight ahead, into the room that Celanyth had seen the hornet's nest roll out of
<thorn> "So, shall we go? Might as well stir the hornet's nest"
* thorn forces a laugh
<Chandor> We shall show them the true fashion of the world.
<thorn> "so, celanyth, you can go first"
* Hidoyou looks up the passages ahead
<Prince_Herb> Celanyth demurs.   "I'd love to, but I'm badly injured, *cough* *cough*"
* thorn pulls a bit further to the back of the group. "Well, perhaps the armored warrior, then."
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan nods "Indeed!   A glorious charge, in the name of the gods!   Huzzay!"
<Prince_Herb> He charges up the corridor
<Chandor> The gods will smile down on you!
<Prince_Herb> Third yells "Maruda!" and follows him at full tilt, spear levelled
* Chandor heads on after him, though not too close.
* thorn comes last of all, eyes wide and ears wary
* Hidoyou walks slowly
<Prince_Herb> Roll 3#d20 for Third, Celanyth and Mitchigan
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 3#d20 for Third, Celanyth and Mitchigan and gets 13, 2, 16."
<Hidoyou> roll 1d20+1 for initiative
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d20+1 for initiative and gets 8."
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20 for the kobolds' initiative
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20 for the kobolds' initiative and gets 8."
<Chandor> roll d20 for chandor
* Musk-bot --> "Chandor rolls a d20 for chandor and gets 16."
<thorn> roll d20 for initiative
* Musk-bot --> "thorn rolls a d20 for initiative and gets 3."
<Prince_Herb> The chamber is roughly 50' by 40' and seems to serve as a combined living and sleeping area for the creatures who live here.
<Prince_Herb> You see a number of mangy pelts that apparently serve as sleeping pallets.
<Prince_Herb> Scattered bones litter the floor, and in one corner are a pile of chewed sticks and what looks like a heap of chewed wood pulp.
<Prince_Herb> Your attention is drawn, however, by the half-dozen or so figures that cringe against the back wall, sucking their thumbs and shielding their eyes from the glare of your torchlight, whining piteously all the while.
<Prince_Herb> They look just like the creature you found in the entrance, except that these are obviously alive and apparently very frightened.
* Chandor wonders how these had the nounce to make the papier-mache and bee ball.
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan and Third charge into the room, and as they do, the kobolds hiding above the doorway pour something nasty and sticky down on top of them
<Prince_Herb> roll 3#d20
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 3#d20 and gets 5, 13, 11."
<Prince_Herb> Third goes charging through, missed entirely by whatever it was, but the viscous golden liquid strikes Mitchigan
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan cries : "You shall not vanquish me with delicious golden syrup!   Have at thee!"
<Prince_Herb> His steps falter somewhat, as he discovers that he is sticking to the floor
<thorn> "Mitchigan, get out of there" I cry
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan squelches forward, but he's not going to reach the back wall quickly, covered in syrup
<Chandor> Come back Mitchigan, Chandor calls.
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan's ears must be clogged with syrup
* Chandor sighs and jumps through the door, spinning round.
<Prince_Herb> Chandor spies the three little figures above the doors, holding tubs of syrup
<Chandor> roll 1d20+1 for critical
* Musk-bot --> "Chandor rolls 1d20+1 for critical and gets 5."
<Chandor> roll 1d6+1 for damage
* Musk-bot --> "Chandor rolls 1d6+1 for damage and gets 6."
<Prince_Herb> Chandor strikes the thigh of one of the beasts with a terrific cracking noise
<Prince_Herb> The beast falls from the doorway, and lands with a *splat* in the syrup
<Prince_Herb> Third charges up to a spear's length from the kobolds at the end of the room and tries to skewer one
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20+6
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20+6 and gets 12."
<Prince_Herb> The wiry little creature evades her blow
* Hidoyou comes in from behind the rest of the group
* Hidoyou sees Chandor fighting the kobolds
* Hidoyou moves up towards him swiftly
* Hidoyou attacks one of the kobolds
<Hidoyou> roll 1d20+4
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d20+4 and gets 22."
<Hidoyou> roll 1d10+3
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d10+3 and gets 4."
<Prince_Herb> Hidoyou's blow lays another of the creatures low
<Prince_Herb> The last of the three creatures on the ledge picks up its spear and backs off
<Prince_Herb> The six creatures facing off Third pick up their spears from the litter on the floor and throw them at her
<Prince_Herb> She takes three attacks of opportunity
<Prince_Herb> roll 3#1d20+6
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 3#1d20+6 and gets 11, 15, 10."
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d8+4
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d8+4 and gets 6."
<Prince_Herb> One of the creatures falls to the ground dead
<Prince_Herb> roll 5#1d20
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 5#1d20 and gets 3, 7, 10, 14, 11."
<Prince_Herb> A single spear strikes her
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d6-1
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d6-1 and gets 2."
* thorn comes to the entranceway and stands, appalled.
* thorn cries out in draconic, "Why are you attacking us?" even as I leap to Third's defense with my staff
<thorn> roll d20-1 to try to hit one of her attackers
* Musk-bot --> "thorn rolls a d20-1 to try to hit one of her attackers and gets 11."
* thorn charges in to come to third's aid
<thorn> that was all a dream. I instead touch chandor and cast Mage Armor
<Prince_Herb> Celanyth sneaks into the room, and gets his bow out
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan squelches to the far end of the room and strikes down a kobold!
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20+5
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20+5 and gets 12."
<Prince_Herb> Or tries to, at least
* Chandor thanks Thorn
* Chandor goes for the last kobold above the door
<Chandor> roll 1d20+1
* Musk-bot --> "Chandor rolls 1d20+1 and gets 11."
<Prince_Herb> The last kobold is now clearly out of reach and Chandor's attack falls short
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20+6
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20+6 and gets 9."
<Prince_Herb> Third misses.
* Hidoyou drops his shield and latches onto to the edge of the alcove above him
<Hidoyou> roll 1d20+3
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d20+3 and gets 4."
* Hidoyou attempts to pull himself up, but fails
<Prince_Herb> The kobold above the doorway tosses a spear at Hidoyou
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20+3
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20+3 and gets 5."
<Prince_Herb> Most of Hidoyou's body is concealed from it by the ledge and it misses entirely
* Hidoyou moves to defend himself
<Prince_Herb> The creatures at the end of the room break and run, braving the attacks of Third and Mitchigan
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20+6 for
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20+6 for and gets 19."
<Prince_Herb> Mitchigan strikes one
<Prince_Herb> roll 2d6+3
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 2d6+3 and gets 14."
<Prince_Herb> The poor creature is cut in half
<Prince_Herb> Third does likewise
<Prince_Herb> roll 3#d20
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 3#d20 and gets 7, 7, 8."
<Prince_Herb> She misses
<Prince_Herb> The four surviving kobolds run at the walls, hit them and pass through
<Prince_Herb> There are two little ragged holes in the walls now, one on each side
* thorn strikes at the one in the alcove with my mighty staff
<thorn> roll 1d20-1
* Musk-bot --> "thorn rolls 1d20-1 and gets 17."
<thorn> roll 1d6-1
* Musk-bot --> "thorn rolls 1d6-1 and gets 0."
<Prince_Herb> The creature shrieks in pain and tries to get back further into the alcove
<Prince_Herb> Celanyth shoots an arrow at it, out of concern for its well-being
<Prince_Herb> roll 1d20
* Musk-bot --> "Prince_Herb rolls 1d20 and gets 15."
<Prince_Herb> He kills it
<Prince_Herb> All is now quiet again
* Hidoyou grabs the spear that the kobold dropped
* Hidoyou takes his shield and straps it to him, as well
<Hidoyou> They're going to get more. We should hurry.
<Prince_Herb> It's a half-sized spear for use by small persons, and not very well made at that
<thorn> "Hurry where? Are we even going to be able to make it to the source before they come back?"
* Hidoyou examines the spear then tosses it into the next room
* Hidoyou walks forward
* Hidoyou examines the holes
* Chandor taps a wall near the holds with a mace
<Prince_Herb> They are tunnels, around a foot square and covered with papier mache, disguised to look like rock
<Prince_Herb> They lead into darkness
* Hidoyou grabs a torch from one of them and holds it near the entrance
<Chandor> Hmm, any pots of that syrup left?
<Prince_Herb> You'll have to climb up and look
* Chandor attempts to climb up
<Prince_Herb> Hidoyou can't see the other end of either tunnel
<Prince_Herb> Chandor climbs up onto the ledge and finds a mess of odds and ends
* Chandor searches looking for anything interesting.
<Prince_Herb> There's a little brazier where someone has been making coloured glass, and a big pot of syrup
* Chandor inspects the syrup to see if he can work out what it is.
<thorn> "Hey, if you let me have a candle, I can look a little way through the hole... I think I can slip in"
<Prince_Herb> There are a few spears, some string, charcoal, and so on
* Chandor tosses a candle to thorn
* Hidoyou pulls out his bow and fires an arrow down the tunnel
<Hidoyou> roll 1d20+1
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d20+1 and gets 13."
<Chandor> roll 1d20+1 for int
* Musk-bot --> "Chandor rolls 1d20+1 for int and gets 21."
<Prince_Herb> You hear it strike against stone, Hidoyou
* thorn picks up the candle and begins stealthily trying to work my way into the tunnel
<Prince_Herb> It's a mixture of tree saps, reduced to a sticky mess
* Chandor finds a small stick, dips in in the syrup, then, a little way away from it to avoid accidents, tries lighting the stick.
<Prince_Herb> It doesn't burn
<Chandor> Foo
<Prince_Herb> thorn creeps forward, candle in hand
<thorn> I'm running my hands along the wall, looking for turn-off passageways
<Prince_Herb> You find an arrow lying broken on the floorafter a little while, then a long way after that a trapdoor above you
<thorn> "Hey, guys, I found a trapdoor here!"
<Hidoyou> roll 1d20 for listen
* Musk-bot --> "Hidoyou rolls 1d20 for listen and gets 20."
<Prince_Herb> Back in the big room, you hear muffled calls from thorn, something about a trapdoor
* thorn starts making my way back to the party
<thorn> Realizing the silliness of going to this effort without at least peeking, I go back to the trap door
<thorn> I push at it, trying to open it just a crack
<Prince_Herb> It doesn't budge - there's a weight of some kind on top of it
<thorn> roll d20-1 to try to overpower the weight
* Musk-bot --> "thorn rolls a d20-1 to try to overpower the weight and gets 6."
* thorn sighs, then heads back to the party
<Prince_Herb> thorn takes an age getting back, which is just long enough for Mitchigan to desyrup himself
* Hidoyou ponders the situation
<Chandor> Anyone else want to go down the tunnels?
<thorn> "There's a trap door down there, which is either a really heavy door or they've stuck something on top of it"
<Chandor> Can we do anything with it though, given that only you can go down there?
