Okay, I'm looking for 4-5 players for an Iron Heroes game, where some young scrappy nobodies (read, level 1) from some backwood village grow up to be heroes known and loved throughout the lands.

Book Links: HERE. Only books needed are the revised PHB and player's companion. Other books are just extras if you want 'em.

So....yeah. Iron Heroes.

Drac's probably gonna wince as soon as he reads the system's name. ^_^;

(Storytime! Feel free to skip next three paragraphs if you don't care)
We kinda both have bad memories of it, as we both joined a game with it, that well...didn't particularly work out for us. Part of it was the GM's choice of OpenRPG (which both Drac and I despised) for gaming, part of it was meshing between us and the rest of group, and part was just some other stuff.

Anyhow, I was looking through rpg books I've got as I've been feeling like playing around with a fantasy game.

While originally I was looking to something with a Dragon Quest Dai feel to it (manga end brought gaming feeling up and people have been bugging me to try running something), I kinda started wanting to try a low-magic game, which is essentially what Iron Heroes tends to be about, so I figured I'd blow the figurative dust off the pdf files and give it another shot despite the bad memories.
(Story time ends!)

For the non-Dracos who have no idea what Iron Heroes is, it's a fantasy d20 system, somewhat like D&D, except it's very low-magic. There are no highly powerful spells, what magic exists tends to have a steep cost, and magic items are incredibly rare. In fact, there's only two magic-users out of thirteen possible classes, though I'm gonna mess with that a bit... case in point, see below.

Classes banned: Armiger (meh) and Thief (Don't want a skill monkey maniac, and you can still play a 'thief' type with a harrier and/or executioner, really)
Classes semi-restricted: Arcanist and Spiritualist (the magic users)

Armiger I just feel meh about, Thief is essentially a skill monkey and you can play a 'thief' archetype with a harrier or executioner, and while I -do- want one magic user in the party (possibly two if I can get five players), given the point of the game is to play low magic I'd feel silly if we had large amounts of magic occuring on the player side.

For people curious on scheduling, three options:
1) Forum post-play game. I can post with a fair amount of frequency.
2) IRC game, one session every other week. Available times I can do this: M-F 6pm-midnight CST or Sat 9am-3pm or Sun 9am-midnight CST (CST is -6 GMT/UTC).
3) Mix of the two. Primarily rely on forum play, and occassionally go into IRC when we can meet as a group or to speed up combat.

I'm flexible, and mostly want to see if there's interest first. Feel free to post if you're interested in a low-magic game but would rather not learn a new system (Can see about going with d&d 3.5e if things point that way).
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

New guy here is interested somewhat.

I'd be willing to try to learn Iron Heroes, but if it's infeasible, I can settle for 3.5e D&D (Tome of Battle is -wonderful- for low-magic games, if you allow that.).

Two questions I have:

1--Mediafire's...not really finding the IH files on my end.  Is there some other way to get the upload?
--EDIT-- Nevermind.  Found it anyway.  Just had to search.

2--It sounds silly to ask, but is there going to be an overarching plot in this eventually?  Not trying to offend.  I'm just a sucker for stuff like that.

Iron heroes is pretty much D&D with some really weird layouts.

Mmm.  IH is wacky.  But I do enjoy playin' with Merc. :)

Sunday 10 am-?? CST is probably my best opening for yours merc.
Well, Goodbye.

If other people have trouble with getting those files out of mediafire (it's occasionally wonky, I'll admit), I originally got 'em off /tg/, so I know they show up in rs.4chan.org

Well, given that I was originally motivated to try something because of DQ:Dai...yeah, probably. I'd like to work something of that sort into background or first session, involving some warlord or demon lord as motivation for all the players.

Yeaaaah, pretty much.

I mostly wanted to try giving it a shot unbiased from the last experience and see how it works in play, but primarily, I'm interested in a low-magic campaign, so playing a D&D game limited in spellslinging could work as well, hence why I made that an option if enough people poke in with a "Hey, yeah, I'd like to play, but IH looks retarded/complicated, I'll play if it's D&D though".

Honestly though, not just players would have to learn the system, so would I. I'm only partially familiar based on the 'made a character two years back and played one session' sense.

Dracos

* Dracos starts fiddling with a harrier build.

Silly dash!
Well, Goodbye.

Well, settled on Archer, on the basis that I have a -character- idea for it and not just a build idea.

[EDIT] Since it's been commented that I haven't posted times...Sunday evenings (6:00-midnight or so CST) are  optimal.

Okay, have three people who've definitely said "Aye!" (Drac, Nama and Navi) and "Mayhaps!" (Ataru).

Want one more "Aye!" at least.

Also, board up due to drac bugging. =p

Tentative post of interest, sure. Kinda depends on when it runs.
