<Kotono> ---------------------------------------------------------
<Kotono> Lo, your travels have taken you far from the warm embrace of castles and cities. You travel in the boonies in search of adventure, treasure and good times! It's about an hour till sunset, but your maps of the area show that a farming community is about an hour and a quarter away. It's named Dramsburg, remote but surely promising good food and good beds.
* Mondo grew up in a small farming community, so no doubt this pastroal village will be like a little slice of home...though hopefully without the small children pelting him with rocks for his mixed heritage. Of course, he's much older now and could crush any troublesome minors like insects if he wanted to! Not that he WOULD, but he could!
<Gallius> "Ahh, civilisation... sort of," Gallius remarks, his initial enthusiasm waning a little from the long walk to get here on his stubby little legs. "What dark secrets await in this innocent seeming town for a band of daring heroes such as us?"
<Perimel> "Ah, at last a town afar within our reach," the halfling bard notes with cheer until hearing his likewise small companion's comment. "No secrets I hope, or I'd surely screech."
<Kuki> "Cooked food that didn't need to be hunted down. Possibly a decent bed or two. Other people?" Kuki shrugs. "No dark secrets, though, I doubt."
<Gallius> "Well maybe it will be attacked by a vicious damsel in search of innocent dragons?" Gallius suggests blithely as they press on.
<Kotono> As the party rides along, about a half hour passes. You can see it ahead on, far away. A great big cluster of ramshankle farmhouses and buildings, spread about with a few dirt roads running through it. However, something closer can be noticed.  Lying just off the road near you are three bodies, blood everywhere.
<Kuki> "You jinxed it!" Kuki accuses Gallius, pointing her index finger at him for good measure.
<Mondo> "VILLAINY is afoot!" Mondo announces. His eyes widen at this sign of violence, and he marches forward to investigate!
* Gallius grimaces a little, his ruddy face turning green. "I wouldn't want to run into the damsel that did this in a dark alleyway," he remarks, approaching with trepidation.
<Kotono> A man, a woman, a child. All three are bitten and ripped apart, lying in dried pools of their own blood. They wear decent clothes, perhaps, what is left of them and not blood dretched. The man and woman both wear backpacks, th ewoman's torn open. A dress is half pulled out of it.
<Perimel> "What gruesome sight," the bard notes, scrunching up his nose.
<Mondo> Mondo tenses up, clearly disturbed by this terrible crime. He's a green, mean, fighting machine, and always ready for trouble! "We must find those responsible and SMITE them!" He glances about, looking for tracks.
<Kuki> "After we ensure no one is hurt and needs our help!" Kuki calls back, hurrying to the nearest farmhouse.
<Kotono> OOC: Make a survival check, Mondo.
<Mondo> roll 1d20+7
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d20+7 and gets 14." [1d20=7]
<Gallius> "Must've been animals," Gallius observes pallidly, checking the woman's backpack to see if it contains anything besides a dress, being careful not to get bloody.
<Kotono> Mondo doesn't see any tracks. Meanwhile Kuki rushes to the nearest farmhouse. It's windows are curtain drawn and dark, it's door closed tight. On the front door a sigil in silver is drawn: A plain cudgel.
<Kotono> The backpacks contain clothes, rations which are half ruined by blood, a bag of gold and silver coins and several personal necessities.
* Kuki knocks on the door, calling out, "Excuse me, is anyone home?"
* Perimel looks away from the bodies in disgust as Gallius does his search, and follows after Kuki, keeping an eye and ear out for what might have done such a deed.
<Kotono> After several moments the door is cracked open. A bloodshoot eye can be glimpsed, a woman's voice coming. "Aye...oh! Travelers?" she asks quietly, "If you're looking for room and board, head to the Leaky Steer."
<Kuki> "Ah, right," Kuki responds, momentarily taken off balance. "We are, but that aside for a moment, is this community besieged by murderous beasts?"
* Gallius takes the money, since the travellers surely have no use of it, and steps back. "Think they'd prefer to be buried or cremated?" he wonders aloud, knowing which he'd prefer.
<Kotono> "St. Cuthbert save us, yes! Ever since poor Bron came back with Letham...every night, there's been something bad happening. A monster." The woman shudders. "Mercy be, don't stay out past sunset!"
<Mondo> "I think they would like to be AVENGED!" Mondo answers the gnome, wandering down the street.
<Perimel> "What sort of monster, madam?" the halfling asks, scrunching up his nose. "It was quite...brutal, I must say."
<Kotono> "Bron spoke of a demon wolf thing," With a little shake of her head, "If you hurry, you can reach the Leaky Steer before sunset. Hurry, by Cuthburt's grace!"
<Gallius> "Well, yes, but preferably not in some crow's belly?" Gallius hazards. Seeing no objections, he pours some flammable oil over the bodies to help them on their way, praying for Tiamat to take their souls in her enormous hoard, before he sets them on fire with his breath!
* Perimel frowns. "Perhaps we should follow the lady's sage advice until we know more of the situation. This does not appear to be a one time occurance," the bard suggests.
<Kotono> The bodies catch aflame with the oil, burning merrily away. The warm glow of the fire makes the door open a little more, a tired, middle aged farmwoman looking out briefly to the burning fire. "What's going on?"
<Mondo> "Only the last rites for these poor RAVAGED souls!" Mondo explains to the woman, because the word of a tusked demi-human is always reassuring.
* Gallius decides to throw in a prayer to Nerull as well, since the God of Death should probably be invoked here. Between him and Tiamat these three poor souls will surely be well cared for in the hereafter.
<Kotono> The woman closes the door at that, a short nod before the heavy wooden door is shut.
* Kuki frowns, but decides to make way for the Leaky Steer to find out more about the situation.
<Gallius> Seeing everyone leaving Gallius ceases his prayers on behalf of the departed and quickly runs after them! "Wait for me!"
* Mondo accompanies Kuki to the Steer as well.
* Kuki pauses just enough to allow Gallius to catch up.
<Kotono> You pass through the down. It's silent, empty animal yards and shut doors. Many bear the same silver sigil of a cudgel as the farmhouse did, doors shut and windows covered or curtained over. You find the Leaky Steer roughly in the middle, it's windows lit but door closed.
* Perimel frowns as they reach their destination. "Not right to see a place so dead," the bard mutters. The lack of cheer quite offends the little man.
* Kuki knocks on this door as well!
<Mondo> Mondo points out the obvious for everyone: "The DOORS all bear the same MARK! The townsfolk seek PROTECTION against some DREAD force! We should provide it for them should their god be LAGGARD!"
<Gallius> "Well, we've got our dark secret after all," Gallius nods knowingly.
<Kotono> The door opens quickly, a weathered woman of perhaps thirty years opening it. Her red hair is done up in a bun, a dirty apron worn over a peasant dress. "Travelers? Come in," she bids quickly. "Come in, come in!"
* Kuki steps inside, taking a look around, even as she offers the proprietor a hesitant smile.
<Perimel> "Good evening, miss, and thank you for the invitation," Perimel greets as he steps inward.
<Kotono> Inside is a simple enough barroom. It's mostly empty, save for a few barflies by the fire. The woman dusts her hands on her apron, "Feel free to take a seat. Looking for a warm, safe bed?"
<Gallius> "And food, too!" Gallius pipes up as he steps inside.
<Perimel> "And a story or two, as well. I must profess, the outside state quite intrigues me," Perimel adds.
<Kotono> "Sure things, dear," With a wink as she smiles, "Pull up a chair. Glad yo ugot here before it got much later. BAd t hings are happenin-oh, you noticed?" Going to behind the bar, "I'll be back in a jiff with dinner and a story then. Go ahead and take a table."
* Mondo tromps in and sits down at an empty table, looking very enthusiastic about the prospect of food.
<Perimel> "You're too kind, thank you." With that said, Perimel heads towards the same table as his companion and sits down, using the time to make sure his harp is well-tuned, giving a pluck of the strings here and there.
<Kotono> Soon a warm dinner comes. Hot meat, vegetables and potato pancakes on the side with lots of salty ale to drink. Once you're served, "Don't think I reckoned to introduce myself. I'm Nan Upton, owner of the Leaky Steer." She sits with the party, a mug of ale in hand.
<Gallius> "Gallius Goatherder," the gnome offers as he digs into the spread. "So what's got everyone here so rattled - or what killed those three we saw outside? I'm betting the answer's the same to both, but you never know!"
<Mondo> "GREETINGS, Nan! We THANK you for this glorious FEAST!" This said, Mondo wastes no more time before stuffing his face full of meat.
<Perimel> "Perimel Swiftleaf," is his own introduction, as Perimel likewise sets about to eat.
* Kuki eats at a far more subdued pace than her companions, looking attentively at the hostess as she waits to hear the answer to Gallius's question.
<Kotono> "Nice to meetcha." She leans back and drinks deep of her ale, "Ah, that's good stuff. See, it all started a week or so bad. There's a couple of sons of the locals here named Bron and Letham. Full of fire'n'spunk, wanted to go off on adventure. So a week and some odd ago they just up and did it."
* Mondo belatedly remembers to introduce himself. "MONDO JELLY!" he announces, in between great bites. Then he settles in to listen to Nan.
<Perimel> "Yes, we heard a small bit about this Bron character, and some demon wolf," the bard notes.
<Kotono> "Coupla days later Bron comes back...dragging Letham's body with him, St. Cuthburt protect the poor kid." With a murmuring under her breath, "Since then, things haven't been right. He says it's a demon-wolf or some such, but  all I know is that bad things are happening now.""
<Gallius> "It followed them back here?" Gallius asks. "Where is Bron, now?"
<Kotono> "Passed out drunk." With an irritated snort, "He's been sobbin' and drinkin' since he hauled himself back from his 'adventure'."
<Kotono> At this, there is a knock on the door. Nan gets up, "'cuse me amoment," she dries her hands off on her apron, getting up and going to the door.
* Kuki decides to accompany her, as it's apparently unsafe to be out on the streets, and even this might be dangerous.
<Mondo> "We should wake this BRON and INTERROGATE him!" Mondo suggests to those still at the table.
<Kotono> The door is opened, two men coming in. One is a man with a bushy brown mustache, lean and weathered. He wears several knives on his belt, his fingers running over them on occasion. The other is a balding, slightly pudgy man with a heavy gold chain around his neck. He follows behind the musached man. Nan snorts and nods to something the former whispers, "Hey y'all," Nan calls, "Got the Sheriff and the Mayor here, saying they wanna talk to you."
<Kuki> "Oh, that's nice," Kuki says agreeably, keeping near the hostess for as long as the door remains opened.
<Gallius> This is the part where the ineffectual locals beg the brave adventurers to save them! Gallius nods in greeting to the new arrivals, waiting for them to spit it out.
<Kotono> "Sherrif Mahen Grisby," The musached man saunters over, "Heard you gave Melinda a good ol' bonfire and scare a bit ago."
* Perimel looks from the table, but does not stand, preferring to continue eating on the pancakes. Pretty good pancakes.
<Kotono> "Alferd Tillbottom, mayor of Dramsburg," The pudgy man says, "We have enough terror in our town without raising trouble..." he frets openly.
<Gallius> "There were three innocent travellers killed right on her doorstep!" Gallius exclaims. "I'd think that would've scared her even more!"
<Mondo> "APOLOGIES! It would not do to leave INNOCENTS unburied in the open! We only wish to HELP the UNFORTUNATE!"
* Perimel swallows his last bite and nods. "The corpses were just laying about there. Quite the greeting as we approached this community, I must say. We did what we thought was best, our apologies if this caused trouble, however."
<Kotono> "More victims?" With a long rustling look to Gallius, "Damnation. We have here what youmight call a situation. I'll cut the bullchasing and get to the point here. You four any good with at dealing with problems?"
* Gallius puffs himself up. "It's what we do," he declares sternly.
<Kuki> "Quite so," Kuki agrees instantly.
<Kotono> Mayor Tillbottom comes forward again, "We can offer you some recompense for your work - 900 gold. If you can stop whatever's going on and solve our problem, it's yours."
<Mondo> "Problems SOLVED, villains THWARTED!" Mondo confirms.
<Kuki> "Has there been an attack every night, ever since they started?"
<Perimel> "In addition, could you direct us to the Bron fellow everyone keeps mentioning in regards to this problem? He might have some information that could be useful to us," Perimel suggests.
<Kotono> "Aye," The sheriff nods. "Animals, people, anything outside. I can take you to his cabin in the morning - damnfool's more soaked in ale than an alebarrel right now. Had to drag him home."
<Kotono> "Thank you. Letham..." The mayor look sdown, "He was my son. I will be forever grateful if you can end this so we can all move on. From Bron's wild stories, this relates to him somehow."
<Gallius> "It doesn't go in people's houses at all?" Gallius asks. A demon wolf could surely bash in a window or door, couldn't it?
<Kotono> "Haven't seen any signs of it," The sheriff agrees, "Father Kerin claims the sigil of St. Cuthburt and a lotta prayer will keep the evil at bay. It hasn't gone in any buildings, sigil'n'prayer or not."
<Kuki> "We could just go tonight," Kuki proposes. "If this demon wolf attacks us, it would be the last thing it ever does."
<Kotono> "Nothing wrong with the direct approach if it works," the Sheriff nods, "If you do, careful out there."
<Gallius> "Well... so long as it doesn't appear too late. I'm tired," Gallius grumbles.
<Kotono> "G'luck, then," The sheriff nods, "Watch your backs out there." He nods to the party and sticks his hand out.
<Kuki> "We will appreciate those directions, then, and could leave as soon as we've eaten?"
<Mondo> "VILLAINS are wont to work in the dark of NIGHT! You must be STRONG, Gallius!"
* Mondo eagerly shakes the sheriff's hand, taking care not to hurt the man with his unusual strength.
<Perimel> "Yes, you must be strong Gallius. Or we'll surely hear all night from our boisterous companion about wanting to dispense justice," Perimel jokes.
<Kotono> The sheriff's handshake is solid and a good grip. After that, he and the mayor depart. Nan watches them go, "Brave ones, aren't you. If you're hunting that beast, the night's food and beds are on us."
<Perimel> "Most kind of you, miss Upton, especially when your pancakes are so delicious."
<Mondo> "Not ALL night!" Mondo corrects. "When the time is right, my AXE will speak FOR me!"
<Gallius> "Hmm... I wonder, though," Garrius strokes his chin. "How do we know there's only one? I mean, those three dead travellers, if there was only one wolf wouldn't the bodies be spread apart as they were killed one by one while running and screaming and praying to the Gods that they wouldn't end up in the belly of a rabid dog? They weren't even eaten much."
<Kuki> "Unlike those travelers, we are both aware of the threat and will expect an attack, perhaps from more than one wolf," Kuki reasons. "We're also capable of holding them off long enough to reach safety, if truly outnumbered."
<Perimel> "A good point, and one to keep us cautious, though there are beasts out there that strike like lightning. It could still be but one beast. Either way, we shall certainly be cautious, I'm sure."
* Mondo nods in agreement. "Caution is the COMPANION of every good WARRIOR!"
<Kotono> OOC: So according to #elysium you're going to go visit Bron's cabin first?
<Kotono> Bron's cabin is on the outskirts of town. It's a plain log cabin, it's door shut. The night is quiet and silent, your torches standing out in the darkness of post-sunset.
<Kuki> It is yet another door to knock upon!
<Kotono> Kuki knocks on the door, but there's no reply.
* Mondo lets someone else handle talking to the drunk for now. He instead uses his keen vision to watch the darkness for any unfriendly beasties.
<Gallius> "They did say he was passed out drunk," the gnome remarks offhandedly.
<Perimel> "Bron?" Perimel calls out loudly after giving a bit of time for some response and giving another set of knocks on the door.
<Kuki> "On the off chance he hasn't, and is paranoid about nightly visitors...." Kuki trails of, letting Perimel try his luck.
<Kotono> No reply to the call or knocks.
* Kuki tries to look indoors, using her torch to aid her.
<Kotono> The windows are dark with curtains. A casual glance doesnt' reveal anything but curtain.
<Gallius> "I doubt we'll get anything out of him," Gallius shrugs, rubbing his hands for warmth before putting them under his armpits, whistling softly as he ambles around.
* Perimel pauses to consider their next action, having expected a response rather than being met with silence. He strokes his greying beard in thought. "How do we feel about breaking in? We are getting paid to handle this situation by the authorities..."
<Kuki> "We could wait here for a while, as this spot is just as good as any for catching murderous wolves in action."
<Gallius> "Even if we break in, is a passed out drunkard going to tell us anything helpful?" Gallius asks.
<Kuki> "It might tell us if he is there, or one of the demon wolves," Kuki suggests, although she doesn't look enthused about breaking in.
* Kuki frowns. "We're all thinking it, right? That either he came back different, or that something else might've come in his stead? The chances are pretty high, especially given he seems to be the only survivor of an encounter with this demon wolf."
<Mondo> "If this is true, it might be best to BREAK IN after all!" Mondo looks to be stricken by a thought he finds especially clever. "He is a DRUNK, who's to say he didn't break the door HIMSELF?!"
<Kuki> "Hmph, there is no need to lie about such matters with the law clearly on our side."
<Gallius> "I've heard of dragons taking the forms of men, but a wolf? Oh, what a mad mad world we live in..." Gallius shakes his head sadly. "Break it down, Jelly."
<Perimel> "I won't make any assumptions yet, but it's a possibility. He'll certainly give us some information the others can't however, in either case. Mondo, since there's no objections and you're probably the strongest, can you try to break open the door's lock? Preferably without damaging the door too badly if Kuki's idea doesn't pan out."
<Perimel> "I'd feel rather bad if we break his door and leave him wide open to an attack if he's innocent of any wrongdoing besides getting drunk instead of training to avenge his friend."
<Mondo> "OF COURSE!" Mondo hefts his axe and makes a short, precise jab at the door's lock.
<Kotono> OOC: Make an attack roll? I'd normlaly waive this but considering you're using a big, vicious axe on a small, precise lock strike...
<Mondo> roll 1d20+13
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d20+13 and gets 21." [1d20=8]
<Mondo> OOC: Err, +11.
<Kotono> OOC: Damage.
<Mondo> roll 1d12+8
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d12+8 and gets 16." [1d12=8]
<Kotono> CRACK! The lock is shattered like a cheap glass thrown against the wall.
* Mondo pushes the door open and peers inside.
<Kotono> Inside is a simple cabin. The smell of vomit and booze reeks. Lying on a simple bed is a young man, face down and quite asleep.
<Gallius> "Looks like the dreaded booze-monster has already claimed this poor soul," Gallis remarks sagely, wrinkling his bulbuous nose as he peeks inside.
<Mondo> "Truly this is an ODIFEROUS dwelling!" Mondo agrees.
<Perimel> "Well, doesn't look like he's any demon, Kuki," Perimel points out quietly, nodding in agreement with Gallius before approaching the sleeping body. "Let's wake him up, I suppose. We did break in for a reason."
<Kotono> As yo uget closer, you see he has curly brown hair that's dirty and matted. He reeks of ale and worse.
<Kuki> "Don't have a witty response to this," Kuki admits. "I have to wonder why he was left alone. Presumably, before he became stinkiness personified."
* Perimel hums as he pulls out his harp and quickly pulls at the strings, releasing a quiet ripple of music before chanting a spell over the sleeping body. [ooc: casting charm person]
<Gallius> "Didn't the sherrif say he took him home earlier?" Gallius asks, not going inside as the smell offends him.
<Kotono> OOC: He's out and not resisting the spell. Carry on.
<Perimel> Once the spell is cast, he begins to prod the drunk. "Bron," he starts to say quietly before raising his volume slowly as he continues prodding. "Wake up, Bron..."
<Kotono> Some noise and pokings barely even get Bron to stir, let alone awaken.
* Perimel frowns, and continues his action, going even louder and more rough with the prodding, trying to get a response.
<Kotono> OOC: How loud/hard?
<Kuki> "I meant originally, upon his return to this village," Kuki tells Gallius.
<Perimel> ooc: fairly hard prodding, not enough to cause any harm, and as loud as a yell.
* Gallius shrugs, not having an answer to that, and secretly hoping a wolf shows up to end their pain before they're reduced to interrogating the drunk.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+2
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+2 and gets 15." [1d20=13]
<Kotono> Bron very slowly stirs, sitting up. His eyes are red and puffy, glazed over. "Whoareyouwhaddyawant?" he asks in one muffled mouthful.
* Mondo watches this whole scene with obvious disapproval. "Truly the fate of those addicted to VILE SPIRITS is a SAD one!"
<Perimel> "Bron, I apologize for the rough wake-up, but we're here to ask some questions. My name is Perimel, these are my friends," the bard introduces himself with a friendly voice.
* Perimel watches Bron closely, hoping the spell cast while he was sleeping causes the drunkard to be more friendly with much needed information.
<Kotono> "Whatyawant?" he stares in a daze at Perimel.
<Perimel> "We heard about yours and Letham's mishap outside the community, and the trouble that followed you here. We were hoping for some information on the beast, any that you can share..."
<Kotono> "Oh Gods..." he groans, starting to sob, "Letham...Lethaaaam"
<Kotono> OOC: GAh.
<Kotono> "Oh Gods..." he groans, starting to sob, "Letham...Lethaaaam!" He falls over, "I failed you...theyr'e  coming for me!"
<Mondo> "Don't WORRY, young man! We will PROTECT you! ...Who will we protect you FROM?!"
* Perimel winces. "Bron! Listen to me, please!" the halfling implores. "I'm sorry for your loss, but we need your help. You want to avenge Letham don't you? To see this demon brought to justice? My friend Mondo...he -loves- to bring things to justice. Don't you, Mondo?"
<Mondo> "YES!"
<Kotono> "The black pillars...the altar...wolf demon..." he sputters out, "I can't forget them!"
* Perimel looks at his companions and nods at the mentions of pillars and altars. That's certainly new information. Turning back to Bron... "I see. Bron, can you tell us what happened when you and Letham left? Tell us everything you can about what happened."
<Kotono> "We'd gone...heard about something...and we found it. We found it..." He rocks back and forth, hugging his knees.
* Perimel sits at the edge of the bed next to Bron, trying deftly not to grimace at the stench of sweat, vomit and alcohol. Patting him comfortly on the back he prods him onward. "Please, go on, Bron. I know it's hard, but we must know..."
<Kotono> "It came...fought it off...but letham...it...Letham..." he sniffles and sobs again.
<Perimel> "What came? That wolf demon? Can you describe it?" the bard asks, hoping perhaps some detail might jar their memories of what the creature could be.
<Kotono> "Like a wolf...no hair...long neck from it's back..." Bron blurbles out.
<Perimel> "Anything stand out for you, Bron? Anything special or weird or just different enough?"
<Gallius> "A hairless long necked wolf?" Gallius mutters, overhearing from outside. "Doesn't sound like any kind of wolf I've ever heard of..."
<Kotono> "It wasn't right...never seen anything like that..." Bron shudders.
<Kuki> "What about the altar?" Kuki interjects. "Where was it? What happened there? How did you even hear rumors about it in the first place to stumble upon it?"
<Mondo> "YES, tell us where you found this CARETURE, so that we may SMITE it!"
<Mondo> OOC: *CREATURE, bah
<Kotono> "No...no...don't wanna go back..." Bron mewls. "Black pillars...don't wanna go back..."
<Perimel> "You don't have to go back, Bron, but directions could help us find the demon and avenge Letham. You want to avenge Letham's death, don't you?" Perimel tries to ask, not wanting the spell to break if Bron is pushed too hard.
<Kotono> "East...go east...follow the brook...six miles, dirt path past a gulley...follow it..." he murmurs.
<Kuki> "So how did you hear of that place?"
<Perimel> "Anything else you guys want to ask?" Perimel asks his friends, nodding at the directions.
* Mondo shakes his head. "I have no more WORDS! Now is the time for SMITING!"
<Gallius> "No, it's time to go to bed, we can go to this altar in the morning," Gallius objects.
<Kuki> "As well we should," Kuki agrees, "given the creature is more confident at night."
* Mondo looks disappointed, but isn't going to try and strong-arm his friends. "Very well, now is the time for SLEEPING!" he says, with somewhat less spirit than usual.
<Kuki> "Can the door be barricaded from the inside?" she asks Mondo. "We can't just leave if Bron can't keep it closed."
<Perimel> "You should go back to sleep as well, Bron. And in the morning, when you wake up, maybe you should think about giving up the drinks, and returning to training. Grow stronger so what happened to Letham never happens again," Peramil suggests.
* Gallius starts heading back to the Leaky Steer now, eager to get some shut-eye.
* Mondo glances around. Maybe there's a desk or cabinet or something that Bron can move in front of the door.
-------------
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

Merc

<Kotono> There are a few cabinets and that sort of thing if Mondo wants to move them.
* Mondo does so! It wouldn't do for the innocent (albeit disgracefully drunk) Bron to get killed because of them, right?
<Kotono> This goes without incident.
<Kotono> OOC: Are you guys returning to the inn now or hwaT?
<Gallius> OOC: yes. If the monster wants to fight us tonight it'll have to break in
<Kotono> You return to the Leaky Steer without incident. It's cleared out now, except for a sleepy looking Nan. "Packing it already?" she asks, "Did you find th ebeast so quickly, by any merciful luck?"
<Perimel> "Unfortunately not, miss," the bard looks mournful. "We spend more time than we expected talking to mister Bron, although we do believe we have some clue as to its origin. We'll be hunting the beast in the morning, to ensure we're all fully rested and at full power."
<Gallius> "The boy mentioned something about black pillars where he found the beast so we're going to give that a look tomorrow," Gallius explains. "If it shows up tonight lets hope it keeps its habit of not going inside houses."
<Kuki> "Why break the habit?"
<Kotono> "I hope nothing happens tonight then," Nan murmurs quietly, "I truly hope so.
<Kotono> "
<Kuki> "Nothing good will come out of guessing," Kuki reasons, "and we won't be of any good falling asleep outside. It's better to prepare for the journey to take the demon out tomorrow by actually resting."
<Kotono> "If you're sure..." Nan looks down, "I reckon we'll have to hope you're right."
<Mondo> "WORRY no!" Mondo reassures Nan. "If the BEAST should strike here tonight, you will have the protection of mighty HEROS!"
<Kotono> OOC: Going to call it a night now?
<Perimel> ooc: Yep.
<Gallius> "And if it strikes somewhere else then at least they can count on being avenged," Gallius seconds cheerfully as he heads to bed.
<Kotono> roll 1d100
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 78." [1d100=78]
<Kotono> The night passes without incident. The party awakens past dawn, refreshed and recovered. Over breakfast, Sheriff Grisby saunters in. He looks over the heroes, "Morning, y'all. Any success with the hunt last night?"
<Kuki> "We have an idea of where to search for clues!" Kuki responds brightly.
<Perimel> "Limited success. No beast sightings, but yes, we got some clues from Bron on where to hunt."
<Kotono> "Alright," he nods gravely to that, "Watch your backs out there."
* Kuki nods back. "We'll return as soon as we investigate. Even though it's daylight, don't relax your guard until the demon's been dealt with, alright?"
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Whichever of you has survival, make a survival check with a +10 circumstancial bonus?
<Kotono> OOC: Just one of you, whichever has highest mod.
<Mondo> roll 1d20+7
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d20+7 and gets 9." [1d20=2]
<Mondo> OOC: Err, +17. Reading comprehension, yay.
<Kotono> Thus you take to the path! The woods are thick beyond town, travel slow and tiring. You go east, following a burblinb brook for a few hours. You go down a dirt path, wandering...but no sign of a gully. In fact, the dirt path trails away into pure forest...you seem to be lost.
<Kotono> roll 1d100
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 98." [1d100=98]
<Mondo> "Mayhap Bron's DIRECTIONS were WRONG on account of him being DRUNK!" Mondo speculates, this being amore understandable explanation than Mond's tracking skills being at fault.
<Kuki> "Or you suck," Kuki mutters quietly.
<Mondo> "If you have ADVICE to share with the rest of us, you must SPEAK UP!"
<Kuki> "Let's go back and try again."
<Perimel> "Let's not cast blame, we at least have an idea of what we're seeking, let's just keep hunting," Perimel suggests.
<Kotono> OOC: Make listen checks, all?
<Kuki> "No, we really should get to some spot we actually recognize, first, or we'll get even more lost," Kuki insists.
<Perimel> roll d20+9
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+9 and gets 11." [d20=2]
<Mondo> roll 1d20+7
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d20+7 and gets 16." [1d20=9]

<Gallius> roll 1d20+10 listen
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+10 listen and gets 27." [1d20=17]
<Gallius> "But which way is back? I think we've gotten a bit turned around..." Gallius laments before his eyes widen. "Or maybe the beast has already found us! Do you hear that growling?"
<Mondo> "Something APPROACHES!" Mondo shares with his comrades. "And it GROWLS with ILL INTENT!"
* Kuki needs nothing more to prepare herself for BATTLE!
<Kotono> As the party stares, it come scrashing through the trees! It's a bear, but far bigger than a bear! Spines and scales line it's body, horns and bone spurs on it's elbows! It growls with pure murderous rage! OOC: Congratulations, you avoided being surprised. I'd roll init here if were you.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+1
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+1 and gets 13." [1d20=12]
<Gallius> roll 1d20+3 gladly!

<Perimel> roll d20+5
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+5 and gets 11." [d20=6]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Bear=Kuki(13)>Mondo(12)>Perimel(11)>Gallius(10)'
<Kotono> OOC: Go ahead and resolve first, Kuki.
<Perimel> roll d20+4 Bardic Knack: K:N
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+4 Bardic Knack: K:N and gets 17." [d20=13]
* Kuki dashes forward, leaping the remainder of the way as she lands a devastating high kick on the bear's lower jaw!
<Kuki> roll 1d20+10 stunning fist dc14
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+10 stunning fist dc14 and gets 15." [1d20=5]
<Kotono> OOC: Zee whiff.
* Perimel stares at the beast. "That's...that's no demon wolf, that's a dire bear!"
<Kuki> roll 1d20+11 tumble?
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+11 tumble? and gets 12." [1d20=1]
<Kotono> OOC: AoO and a miss. Rough.
<Gallius> "It also has lots of hair and a short neck, but I bet it'll still try and kill us anyway!"
<Kotono> roll 1d20+19 AoO
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+19 AoO and gets 38." [1d20=19]
<Kotono> roll 2d4+10
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 2d4+10 and gets 17." [2d4=3, 4]
<Perimel> "Well let's kill it first then!"
<Mondo> OOC: 35/35 HP.
<Kotono> Kuki gets clawed, her arm torn back and fist stopped! A split second later the bear follows up with a second claw on the target that so kindly came up to it!
<Kotono> roll 1d20+19
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+19  and gets 28." [1d20=9]
<Kotono> roll 2d4+10
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 2d4+10 and gets 13." [2d4=2, 1]
<Kotono> Kuki gets clawed again, ravaged badly and bleeding all over the forest floor! OOC: Mondo's up.
<Mondo> "This BEAST stands in the way of VENGEANCE! I shall SMITE it!" Mondo hefts his axe and charges forward with a mighty scream! "CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
<Mondo> roll 1d20+13 charging
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d20+13 charging and gets 15." [1d20=2]
<Kotono> Mondo charges forward, but his AXE OF SMITING only hits the air instead of bear-flesh, overextended! OOC: Luckily for you it doesn't have CR. Perimel.
* Perimel begins to pluck at his harp, his fingers glowing as does the badge around his neck, his elderly voice begins to sing a song for his allies, bolstering their steel and fists, and granting them the surety that they shall triumph. (Inspire Courage. +4 morale attack/damage/saves vs fear/charm)
<Kotono> OOC: Right-o. Gallius?
<Gallius> "Run away!" Gallius yelps, spitting out a cone of phlegm-laced fire that congeals into a viscuous mesh of burning pain over the bear, hopefully slowing it down if not convincing it to back off before he flees back twenty feet!
<Gallius> roll 0.5*3d6 DC 19 reflex half
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 0.5*3d6 DC 19 reflex half and gets 7.5." [3d6=5, 5, 5]

<Gallius> roll 1d4 rounds for entanglement
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d4 rounds for entanglement and gets 1." [1d4=1]
<Kotono> OOC: 7 damage and entangled for a round?
<Gallius> OOC: and takes 1d6 damage at the start of my next turn before it wears off
<Kotono> The flames engulf the bear, burning on it's fur and entangling it in it's fiery net! OOC: Kuki an the bear are up.
* Kuki leaps to kick at the bear's ugly mug, using the chance to push herself off it and further back!
<Kuki> roll 1d20+12 stunnings

<Kotono> roll 2d4+10
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 2d4+10 and gets 14." [2d4=2, 2]
<Kotono> Kuki kicks but misses, flipping back! The bear swipes at her hard, drawing a massive wound down her chest! She stumbles back a little more, out of it's range, before collapsing in a pool of her own blood! The bear roars then lays into Mondo!
<Kotono> roll 1d20+19
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+19 and gets 30." [1d20=11]
<Kotono> roll 1d20+19

<Mondo> OOC: AC 15 since I just charged.
<Kotono> Mondo is viciously mauled by the beast, bringing him to near death's door! OOC: Mondo.
* Mondo swells with anger, spittle flying as he roars! "THIS VILE BEAR HAS CHOSEN TO AID THE SIDE OF EVIL BY FIGHTING THE MIGHTY HEROES! I SHALL AVENGE OUR FRIEND BY CRUSHING IT AND STOMPING ON ITS FACE!"
<Mondo> roll 1d20+9 raging, 4 points of PA
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d20+9 raging, 4 points of PA and gets 24." [1d20=15]
<Kotono> OOC: Did you include the bard booster?
<Kotono> OOC: Hit either way.
<Mondo> OOC: Oops, no.
<Mondo> roll 1d12+19 DIE BEAR
* Hatbot --> "Mondo rolls 1d12+19 DIE BEAR and gets 20." [1d12=1]
<Kotono> Mondo rages at the bear, cutting into it's side! He scores a decent wound, but not as deep as it could have been! It's a jagged score, but not enough to put it down! OOC: Perimel.
<Perimel> "...I can't believe I'm saying this, but we're no match for this beast! I'll try to distract it, all of you run!" Perimel shouts as he begins to pluck at his harp, attempting to fascinate the bear with the melody of his harp, hoping it can soothe the savage beast for even a short while.
<Perimel> roll d20+10 perform check for fascinate
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+10 perform check for fascinate and gets 20." [d20=10]
<Perimel> ooc: Will save, DC 20
<Kotono> roll 1d20+9
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+9 and gets 23." [1d20=14]
<Kotono> The soothing music gets the bear's attention, but it's counterpoint is ab loodythristy roar! OOC: Gallius.
<Gallius> roll 1d6 fire damage
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d6 fire damage and gets 5." [1d6=5]
<Perimel> "...oh crap."
<Gallius> "Oh, this is bad! Very bad!" Gallius frets, running over to Kuki's prone form and retrieving his magic wand. "Hope this thing works... Avada Kad- wait, uh... Enerva... no! Um. Wake up!"
<Gallius> roll 1d20+10 DC 21 UMD
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+10 DC 21 UMD and gets 29." [1d20=19]
<Gallius> roll 1d8+1
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d8+1 and gets 5." [1d8=4]
<Kotono> To that, Kuki rises up, her wounds mending just back from death's door! OOC: Kuki and bear are up.
* Kuki leaps to her feet, swaying considerably, and backs away warily.
<Kotono> OOC: Falling back then? Bear is up.
<Kotono> The bear roars and goes to continue it's momentarily paused murdering of Mondo!
<Kotono> roll 1d20+19 Hope for 1s

<Kotono> roll 12-26
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 12-26 and gets -14."
<Kotono> Mondo is clawed and bitten! It's too much for his mortal shell to take, his body exploding into a cloud of gore and gibblets, raining down all over the forest! OOC: Ouch. Perimel is up.
* Kotono changes topic to 'Bear=Kuki(13)>Perimel(11)>Gallius(10)'
<Gallius> "NOOOOO!" Gallius cries. "Not the green one! He made me laugh!"
<Perimel> "...ewwwwwww. This bard thinks it's time to go," Perimel notes, not having time to really say much more out of combined fear and disgust as he turns and starts to dash away as fast as his little legs can carry him. "Run you fools! Run!"
<Kotono> OOC: Gallius, you're up.
<Kuki> "You won't get away with this, Demon Bear!" Kuki declares angrily, far enough from the fiend right now.
* Gallius grabs his scroll of eldritch power that he borrowed from his cousin. "Tentacalus violatiarianum!" he calls, invoking the power of the spell!
<Gallius> roll 1d20+12 DC 27 UMD!
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+12 DC 27 UMD! and gets 28." [1d20=16]
<Gallius> OOC: yes!

<Kotono> roll 1d20+23
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+23 and gets 35." [1d20=12]
<Kotono> OOC: Unfortunately, higher mod wins in grapple.
<Kotono> The bear is surrounded by tentacles, slashing them off as it lurches closer to Gallius, but not quite to him! OOC: Kuki, you're also up now.
<Kuki> Utterly useless and so thoroughly defeated, Kuki wants nothing more than to flee and train her body to become stronger. And she shamefully gives into those urges, fleeing after Perimel while hoping that Gallius is soon to follow.
<Kotono> OOC: Right. Perimel.
* Perimel flees and flees, does not look back!
<Kotono> OOC: Gallius.
<Gallius> roll 1d20+15 grapple since it's still in the field
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+15 grapple since it's still in the field and gets 22." [1d20=7]
<Kotono> roll 1d20+23 Bummer.

<Kotono> OOC: Now you're just being mean, bot.
<Gallius> "Damn you, demon bear!" Gallius cries bitterly, his tears fuelling a snot-infused blast of fiery destruction from his mouth once more to try and slow the bear down as he turns to flee after his not so brave comrades!
<Gallius> roll 0.5*3d6 DC 19 reflex half
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 0.5*3d6 DC 19 reflex half and gets 6." [3d6=5, 1, 6]
<Gallius> roll 1d4 rounds entangled

<Kotono> roll 1d20+9
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+9 and gets 25." [1d20=16]
<Kotono> Gallius flees as well! The party can hear the bear beginning to eat and feast...but no signs of following! Long they run in a terrified, desperate daze, until at last they are certain of one thing - it doesn't seem to be following.
* Gallius is inconsolable after the death of his beloved green friend, his haunted eyes staring off into the middle distance as he mumbles about the 'demon bear', seeming mostly unaware of where he is or where he's going.
* Kuki shudders. "A bear so terrible, it must be a demon! Oh, this entire land is cursed...."
<Kotono> OOC: One of you make a survival check? If none of you have ranks it's an untrained wis check in this case.
<Perimel> roll d20+3
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+3 and gets 5." [d20=2]
<Perimel> ooc: hatbot hates
<Kotono> You wander for a few hours, noon come and passes. Kuki is on death's door and it's worst. You seem completely lost now. No sign of the dirt path or anything. Just stuck in the middle of nowhere at the mometn.
* Kuki uses a damn potion as they travel to not die to a mosquito bite.
<Kuki> roll 1d8+3
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d8+3 and gets 9." [1d8=6]

<Perimel> roll 1d8+1
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls 1d8+1 and gets 8." [1d8=7]
<Kuki> "We're lost in woods crawling with demonic animals. It's dark. We are being picked off one by one," Kuki grimly summarizes their predicament.
<Gallius> "He was the best of us..." Gallius mutters dismally.
<Kuki> "If we're just going to die here, at least we should set the woods on fire and take the demons with us," she adds bitterly.
<Perimel> "Yes, well, I'd rather not despair yet. Not after Mondo's most crunchy and hopefully delicious sacrifice to a hungry creature. To honor his last stand, we should ensure we get out of here somehow."
<Perimel> "Actually, wait, I hope he tasted awful. I don't want the bear to have more reason to chase after us, thinking us equally tasty."
* Perimel keeps smacking Kuki upside the head with his wand as needed.
<Perimel> roll d8+1
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d8+1 and gets 2." [d8=1]
<Perimel> roll d8+1

<Perimel> roll d8+1

<Perimel> roll d8+1
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d8+1 and gets 7." [d8=6]
<Gallius> "Out of where? Where are we?" Gallius asks, sighing as he forces himself to take in their surroundings.
<Kuki> At Gallius's question, Kuki decides to find a tall tree to climb and take a look around.
<Kotono> You're in the middle of a whole lot of untamed forest.
<Kuki> I literally can't see anything but trees from the very top?
* Mondo is now known as Torgo
<Perimel> "Well, I have no idea, but there's an old saying that's probably wise in our situation," Perimel notes. "If you go in a straight line, you can only go as deep as halfway into the forest. After that, you're on your way out. So let's just pick a direction and keep heading that way."
<Perimel> "Sooner or later we should be free from this forest."
<Kotono> As the party talks, they hear someone approaching. Coming through the forest..Mondo?! Not quite, though he does bear quite the resemblance.
<Perimel> ooc: bear quite the resemblance.
<Perimel> ooc: bear
* Kuki drops down to the ground, wary of the demon Mondo!
<Gallius> "Ahh! A ghost! Come to punish us for our sins!" Gallius screams. "Tiamat, save me!"
<Perimel> "You? But...you're dead!" The halfling bard gasps, pointing at the creature.
* Torgo tromps into the clearing. He immediately adopts a look of confusion at Perimel's words. "I AM NOT!" He bashes his head against a nearby tree, as if to be sure that he was still a living, feeling organism. "I am...TORGO THE GREEN."
<Kuki> "It's a demon TRICK!" Kuki counters, unwilling to fall for such a thing.
<Gallius> "Oh... Tiamat heard my prayers and sent forth a replacement green one! He even talks like the other!" Gallius cries joyfully, falling to his knees.
<Perimel> "...huh. Are all half-orcs like Mondo?" Perimel just looks confused, and somewhat relieved that Torgo isn't Mondo's angry spirit.
<Torgo> "NO trick! You...I KNOW of you! My BROTHER spoke of those he TRAVELED with! WHERE is he?!"
* Kuki pauses at Perimel's words, which may well be plausible.
<Gallius> "Oh..." Gallius hesitates. "Um... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but..."
<Kuki> "He was KILLED by a DEMON BEAR," she responds, angry and sorrowful at the same time.
<Perimel> "He sacrificed himself to make a delicious last meal for a bear while we made our escape," Perimel answers honestly. "I don't think he meant to sacrifice himself, but, yes. That's what happened."
<Gallius> "Say, you don't have any booze on you, do you?" the gnome then asks hopefully.
<Torgo> "...This bear was properly PUNISHED I assume?! Cut into little fiddly BITS and DANCED on by the victors?!"
<Perimel> "No, I'm afraid Mondo was the one cut into little fiddly bits."
<Kuki> "There was also no dancing, but a bit of STOMPING," Kuki adds.
<Gallius> "My most powerful spells were as nothing before its unbearable might!" Gallius nods fervently.
<Perimel> "Yes, Kuki here still bears the scars from that creature's attacks."
<Kuki> "It shrugged off my most powerful strikes!"
* Kuki feels faint just remembering it.
<Torgo> "Then we must FIND this creature and CUT and SLASH it into little PIECES until the forest is RED with its BLOOD!" It's a little alarming how excited he looks about the prospect of maiming and killing.
<Kuki> "We COULD," Kuki agrees, "but it might be best if we stuck to DEMON WOLVES before graduating to BEARS."
<Gallius> "Maybe we could find a demon squirrel first and work our way up?"
<Kuki> "Or a DEMON RABBIT."
<Torgo> "These DEMON WOLVES were also enemies of my brother?! Then we will KILL them FIRST and make harp strings from their LIGAMENTS and THEN return for the BEAR!"
* Kuki nods solemnly.
<Perimel> "Err, I'd rather stick with my current harp strings," the bard protests, hugging his instrument protectively.
<Gallius> "Lets just be careful," Gallius pleads, bottom lip quivering. "I couldn't bear the thought of losing anyone else today..."
* Torgo nods. "Very WELL, I will find ANOTHER way to make them SUFFER! I may START by REMOVING their SKINS! Please LEAd the way!"
<Kotono> OOC: So what are you guys doing onw?
<Kuki> "Are you sure you WANT the people hopelessly LOST to LEAD you around?"
<Perimel> "Err, we're actually kind of lost. We know where we want to go, just not how," Perimel notes, as he explains the place they're seeking. "Do you know where that might be, Torgo?"
* Torgo reconsiders. "Then YOU will FOLLOW me! I am SKILLED in the means of tracking helpless PREY!" Torgo turns and sets off through the woods to try and find the location Perimel spoke of.
<Kotono> OOC: Which location? The bear or the altar in the first place?
<Perimel> ooc: altar
<Torgo> OOC: Altar.
<Kotono> OOC: Survival check, Torgo? +10.
<Torgo> roll 1d20+17
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d20+17 and gets 29." [1d20=12]
<Kotono> It's late in the afternoon when the party at last gets back on track! You travel ahead and...(More, need to reopen book.)
<Kotono> Densely packed, moss covered stones can be seen ahead. It opens up into a small clearing with several rib like black stones, some leaning, and a few fallen over into rubble with vines over them.  In the center a large stone altar can be seen.
<Gallius> "Hey, we found it!" Gallius marvels, going over to investigate the altar. "What are the odds?"
* Kuki joins him by it. "I MUST admit they weren't very HIGH."
<Kotono> As you approach, something whips out from behind the altar! It is like a wolf, but with lines over it's body instead of fur. A neck comes from it's midback, supporting a toothy maw! It's eyes stare at the characters, a soft, birdlike cooing escaping it's maw.
<Gallius> "This is the demon wolf?" Gallius looks surprised. "But it's so cute!" he approaches, hand outstretched. "Not at all like that bear..."
* Torgo is ready for trouble and looks eager to dish out some of his own. "Is this the CREATURE I need to REND and TEAR and MAIM?!"
<Kotono> Gallius gets his hand snapped at, the creature abruptly advancing! OOC: Not the wisest move. It is a wild aberration or whatever. Roll init here?
<Gallius> roll 1d20+3
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+3 and gets 6." [1d20=3]

<Perimel> "I'm not sure, it could be the creature," Perimel comments as he looks at the creature warily.
<Perimel> ooc: can I try to identify it with any knowledge check?
<Kuki> roll 1d20+3 sorry
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+3 sorry and gets 18." [1d20=15]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Perimel(23)Kuki(18)>Demon wolf(14)>Gallius(6)>Torgo(Deme-Miko-chan!)'
<Kotono> OOC: Peri, you're up.
* Perimel feels a momentary hesitation as he recalls the last fight, but manages to hold himself together and begins to chant another song to boost his companions' might. (Inspire Courage +4 again)
<Kotono> OOC: Kuki.
<Kuki> "It is a DEMON WOLF!" she calls to Gallius as she charges ahead, eager to return the favor and save the gnome, even at the cost of her very own life. "Get AWAY from it!"
<Kuki> roll 1d20+14 CHARGE
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+14 CHARGE and gets 16." [1d20=2]
<Kotono> OOC: Not only is that a miss, it has CR.
<Kuki> roll 1d20+11
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+11 and gets 23." [1d20=12]
<Kotono> Kuki charges in, but her powerful fist-blow again somehow misses! At this, the demon-wolf snaps out at Kuki! OOC: It's attack.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+9
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+9 and gets 26." [1d20=17]
<Kotono> roll 2d6+6

<Kotono> Crunch! Kuki gets a bite in her side, the beast chomping down fast and hard with it's absurdly long neck! OOC: Gallius.
<Gallius> "You lied to me, demon wolf! Lied with your cutesy sounding noises!" Gallius accuses hotly, hacking up a load of phlegm before unleashing a devastating torrent of frozen air from his mouth, which sticks unpleasantly to the wolf to bind it!
<Gallius> roll 0.5*3d6 DC 19 reflex half
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 0.5*3d6 DC 19 reflex half and gets 4.5." [3d6=6, 2, 1]

<Kotono> The cold breath entangles it, freezing it down with frosty entanglements! OOC: Torgo.
* Torgo races into the fray, screaming at the top of his lungs. "THERE SHALL BE BLOOOOOOOD!"
<Torgo> roll 1d20+13 (charging)
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d20+13 (charging) and gets 28." [1d20=15]

<Torgo> roll 1d12+11
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d12+11 and gets 20." [1d12=9]
<Kotono> Gallius charges in and has his throat bitten into, the wolf's neck craning forward to savage his jugular! Yet he drives his axe into it's back, a deep and serious wound lashed out! OOC: Crazy. Perimel.
<Kotono> OOC: Torgo. dur.
<Kotono> OOC: Anyway, perimel is up
<Kotono> .
* Perimel grimaces. "Oh dear, they don't make half-orcs like they used to advertise anymore, do they?" He mutters as he gets ready for another spell, attempting to curse the creature as a dark arrow of magic forms in his hands and then launches towards the wolf in an instant. (ooc: casting curse of impending blades. -2 penalty to AC, no save)
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Kuki.
* Kuki moves a step to maneuver into a more favorable position, the wound she had taken not imparing her senses, before punching at the creature's side twice in quick succession.
<Kuki> roll 1d20+12 stunnings
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+12 stunnings and gets 31." [1d20=19]

<Kuki> roll 1d8+6 at last!
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d8+6 at last! and gets 12." [1d8=6]
<Kuki> OOC: No, it's a normal hit

<Kuki> OOC: Hahaha
<Kotono> OOC: How long is it stunned?
<Kuki> OOC: I think till my next go, so a round. Let me check.
<Kotono> OOC: It is.
<Kotono> Kuki slams forward, it's tough skin not enough to prevent i tfrom being rtocked back and stunned! OOC: Gallius.
<Kuki> "Take it DOWN before it can RECOVER!" Kuki calls to her allies.
<Gallius> "I'll try!" Gallius huffs and puffs and blows the demon wolf down in a blast of freezing cold!
<Gallius> roll 3d6 DC 19 half
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 3d6 DC 19 half and gets 9." [3d6=2, 6, 1]
<Gallius> roll 1d6 from entangle, no save

<Kotono> The wolf is breathed on, entangled and stunned further! OOC: Torgo.

<Torgo> roll 1d20+13 (raging, 4 points of PA offset by buffs)
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d20+13 (raging, 4 points of PA offset by buffs) and gets 15." [1d20=2]
<Kotono> OOC: Hold on, I need to check stunned.
<Kuki> OOC: +flanking, +bard
<Kuki> OOC: Stunning means no dex to ac, and -2 to ac atop that
<Torgo> OOC: Counted bard, otherwise it'd've been +9 only
<Kotono> OOC: Hit.
<Torgo> roll 1d12+19 (4 from PA, 4 from bard)
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d12+19 (4 from PA, 4 from bard) and gets 25." [1d12=6]
<Gallius> OOC: 8 from PA! It's doubled on a 2-handed weapon
<Torgo> OOC: Oh, didn't know that.
<Kotono> The wolf is dealt a terrible blow, staggered and wounded dreadfully! OOC: Perimel.
* Perimel pulls out and arrow, deciding the best help he can provide at this point is giving the creature another wound. Holding it against the harp and lining up the creature in his sight, he lets loose the arrow, a mighty "TWANG! TWANG! TWANG!" ringing as the arrow's fletching brushes against the harp's strings while flying.
<Perimel> roll d20+13
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+13 and gets 33." [d20=20]
<Perimel> roll d20+13

<Perimel> roll 3d4+15 Woo, go harp bow!
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls 3d4+15 Woo, go harp bow! and gets 20." [3d4=1, 2, 2]
<Perimel> ooc: booo
<Kotono> With that shot, the arrow flies true! IT goes through the skull of the beast, making it collapse down! For a moment it lies in a growing puddl eof blood before breaking apart into mist! The mist swirls around the altar! OOC: Free act.
<Gallius> "Hah! It's no demon bear, that's for sure!" Gallius cheers, climbing onto the altar to look triumphantly down at the corpse.
<Perimel> "Hrm...no corpse to take back as proof of our victory," Perimel notes, as he stares at the mist warily. "Still, is it over?"
<Gallius> Or... mist where the corpse was.
<Kotono> Gallius climbs into the altar and the mist! He feels a terrible chill pass through his body! OOC: Make fort?
* Kuki doesn't waste time, handing a potion to the Green One. "Drink THIS, my FRIEND," she offers.
* Torgo does so!
<Kuki> OOC: 1d8+3 clw~
<Torgo> roll 1d8+3
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d8+3 and gets 8." [1d8=5]
* Perimel also goes to assist Torgo, pulling out the wand he owns and using it to try and help the half-orc
<Perimel> roll 1d8+1
<Perimel> roll 1d8+1
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls 1d8+1 and gets 4." [1d8=3]
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls 1d8+1 and gets 9." [1d8=8]
<Perimel> "Hrm...you still look a bit under the weather," Perimel notes before bonking the green one twice more with the wand. Bonk! Bonk!
<Perimel> roll d8+1
<Perimel> roll d8+1

<Gallius> roll 1d20+9
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+9 and gets 23." [1d20=14]
<Kotono> OOC: Carry on.
<Kotono> The altar seems pretty normal if very old. The mist continues to swirl around.
<Gallius> "Brrr! Cold!" Gallius shivers a bit and breathes some fire on the altar and mist to warm things up!
<Gallius> roll 3d6 if it matters
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 3d6 if it matters and gets 8." [3d6=1, 4, 3]
<Kotono> The fire passes through the mist harmlessly, doing nothing to disturb it.
<Gallius> Is it at least warmer now?
* Perimel looks towards Gallius. "Find anything interesting?" he asks.
<Gallius> "Not really," Gallius replies, hopping down off the altar.
<Kotono> Not particuary, no.
<Torgo> "We should CRUSH this unholy altar into little PIECES and STEP on them until there is NOTHING left but DUST!" Torgo announces.
<Gallius> "I like this plan!" Gallius seconds.
* Kuki blinks. "That SOUNDS like a GREAT idea," she approves. "Maybe the DEMON is BOUND to it and that would DESTROY the fiend for GOOD."
<Gallius> "Wait a second, I'll check if the cold is magical in nature," Gallius then asks...
<Gallius> OOC: detect magic first of all
<Perimel> "Perhaps that is the best way to ensure that it won't be making a return once we're gone. I wish we had something we could take back as proof of our victory however..."
<Kotono> The mist and altar radiates strong magic.
<Gallius> OOC: Using Identify on the altar
<Gallius> "Weird..." Gallius frowns. "Okay, go ahead and trash it. It's just a gateway to some horrible realm of stuck up wild animals."
* Torgo steps forward. "I would be GLAD to smash this unholy ABOMINATION! Although it is MORE fun to hit things that BLEED!" He swings his axe around in a great arc and brings it down on the altar!
<Kotono> OOC: No need to roll to hit, just roll damage.
<Torgo> roll 1d12+19 (assuming bard buff wore off, +4 more if it's still up)
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d12+19 (assuming bard buff wore off, +4 more if it's still up) and gets 25." [1d12=6]
<Kotono> roll 1d100
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 63." [1d100=63]
<Kotono> Torgo slams his axe into the altar! He makes a decent gash and crack into it! It runs with strange ethereal energies, the ground rumbling slightly at this impact. It still radiates magic, though.
<Gallius> "Hit it again!" Gallius encourages. "Quickly, before it summons more demon animals!"
<Kuki> "Make it BLEED!"
<Torgo> "The artifact is STUBBORN! I shall SMITE it HARDER!"
<Torgo> roll 1d12+19 again
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d12+19 again and gets 24." [1d12=5]
<Kotono> roll 1d100+10
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100+10 and gets 14." [1d100=4]
<Kotono> The altar is stricken again! A deeper gash runs in it, cracks starting to radiate out from it!
* Gallius helps out by blowing alternately hot and cold on the altar to make it more susceptible to structural damage!
<Gallius> roll 3d6 cold
<Torgo> "GIVE UP and go the HELL that awaits obstinate INANIMATE objects!" Mondo growls, trying once more.
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 3d6 cold and gets 11." [3d6=2, 3, 6]
<Kotono> roll 1d100+30
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100+30 and gets 57." [1d100=27]
<Kotono> The altar is iced over now!
<Torgo> roll 1d12+19 one more time!
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d12+19 one more time! and gets 26." [1d12=7]
<Kotono> roll 1d100+40
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100+40 and gets 88." [1d100=48]
<Gallius> roll 3d6 hot!
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 3d6 hot! and gets 8." [3d6=2, 5, 1]
<Kotono> The altar is nearly split in half, about to fall apart! It's greviously injured, nearly split in twain!
* Torgo whirls his axe around. "GIVE UP so that I may go ELSEWHERE and hit SQUISHY things that bleed PLEASANTLY!"
<Torgo> roll 1d12+19 one more time!!!!1
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d12+19 one more time!!!!1 and gets 27." [1d12=8]
<Kotono> roll 1d100+50
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100+50 and gets 125." [1d100=75]
<Kotono> The altar shatters in two! The energies around the altar swirl a moment, everything growing white! Then with a massive burst, it's as if the world explodes around you! OOC: ref all. Way to go.
<Torgo> roll 1d20+3
* Hatbot --> "Torgo rolls 1d20+3 and gets 16." [1d20=13]
<Gallius> roll 1d20+4 i regret nothing
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+4 i regret nothing and gets 5." [1d20=1]
<Kuki> roll 1d20+7 blaze of glory!
* Hatbot --> "Kuki rolls 1d20+7 blaze of glory! and gets 21." [1d20=14]
<Perimel> roll d20+9
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+9 and gets 20." [d20=11]
<Kotono> roll 15d6 Torgo and Gallius take full, Kuki and Perimel take half.
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 15d6 Torgo and Gallius take full, Kuki and Perimel take half. and gets 54." [15d6=3, 3, 1, 5, 6, 3, 2, 5, 3, 5, 5, 1, 5, 4, 3]
<Kotono> The party lies in a crater. Little is left, utter destruction everywhere. Perimel is still awake...little is left of Targo, save a splotch on the ground. Gallius and Kuki lie about, horribly burnt but perhaps still alive. A ways ahead of you, about 100 feet or so, a shifting gash of multicolored energies swirls.
* Perimel groans as he looks at the others. "Is anybody still alive?" he asks weakly as he looks around, checking to see if his companions still live, and noticing Kuki and Gallius still are. "Where's Torgo? Did we lose another half-orc? That's the sixth one we've gone through!" he mutters as he rushes to try and stabilize his companions with some bonks.
<Perimel> roll d8+1 Kuki
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d8+1 Kuki and gets 7." [d8=6]
<Perimel> roll d8+1
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d8+1  and gets 8." [d8=7]
<Perimel> roll d8+1 Gallius

<Perimel> roll d8+1 me
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d8+1 me and gets 7." [d8=6]
<Kotono> OOC: Stop there. Give those two a line to wake up then I'm lining.
<Gallius> "Urgh... who builds explosive altars anyway?" Gallius rubs his head in pain as consciousness returns.
<Perimel> "...stuck up wild animals?" Perimel offers as a guess.
<Kuki> "There WAS bleeding after all," Kuki miserably mutters, looking down upon herself.
<Kotono> The rainbow gash in the air swirls and hums, strange melodies and noises tumbling forth!
<Kotono> OOC: Any of yo uwho have K:A or K:P can check.
<Kuki> "This is where we run away again, isn't it?" she asks in resignation.
<Gallius> roll 1d20+8 arcana
* Hatbot --> "Gallius rolls 1d20+8 arcana and gets 24." [1d20=16]
<Perimel> roll d20+4
* Hatbot --> "Perimel rolls d20+4 and gets 20." [d20=16]
<Kotono> roll 1d100 only quasi related
<Perimel> "...oh dear, it might seem we've erred with handling the altar," Perimel mutters as he frets. "Now what do we do? We have a tear in the fabric of reality in our hands!"
* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 only quasi related and gets 44." [1d100=44]
<Gallius> "Um... instead of stuck up animals we now have a portal to... anywhere? So we might get friendly frogs or we might get rude robots, or possibly just a slavering horde of fiends. I think running is a good idea, now," the gnome nods as he picks himself up, swaying unsteadily a moment before beating feet away!
<Kuki> At least the demon wolf is dead! That is such a comforting thought, as Kuki flees as well.
<Perimel> "...I suppose fleeing is a good enough idea again. It worked with the bear. Exit! Stage left!" Perimel announces as he departs as well.
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.
