Ebiris

[15:39] <@Ebiris> It's close to 9pm, although despite the setting sun the docks still remain fairly busy with a few late arriving ships still unloading while sailors and dockworkers alike hit up the various taverns and establishments of negotiable affection set up for their patronage. Miranda and Glenn are idling away the time in the Eagle Inn, a cosy tavern and boarding house nestled in an alleyway close but not adjacent to the docks. It's not the cleanest place, and the service fairly stinks, but there's a warm fire and a welcome absence of rowdy drunks. However the arrival of Rudy and Henrietta could potentially change that, depending on how much they had to drink while plying the other nearby taverns!
[15:41] <@Rudy> If Rudy is drunk, he's certainly hiding it well, and he wanders amiably up towards the only friends he has in town. "Goooooood evening!" he remarks, removing his monocle and taking a seat. "Fancy a trip down to the good lady's vessel? I dare say we'll find something interesting should we go down to take a look."
[15:43] * @Miranda finishes her drink and nods. "I take it you were able to get some information on our mark? You seem awfully cheerful, Rudy."
[15:43] * @Henrietta settles into another empty seat by the table, observing Rudy curiously for several moments. "Just how interesting would this be?" she inquires. "The docks are dangerous these days, it seems, thieves warring with thieves and the Watch unwilling to intervene."
[15:44] <@Rudy> "I'm always cheerful. It is the only way to hold the crushing depression of not having a real job at bay," he replies, nodding. "I heard Vark has something big going down tonight when I made some enquires at one of his old haunts. It seems his lackeys are thinking today's the 'big score'."
[15:44] <@Glenn> "Big score, eh? Wonder what that's about," Glenn ponders.
[15:45] <@Rudy> "Smuggling, probably. It seems to be the profitably criminal enterprise in these parts," remarks Rudy, in a low voice.
[15:46] <@Miranda> "It could have something to do with the ship itself, though." says Miranda thoughtfully.
[15:47] <@Henrietta> "It would certainly be the right time for it," Henrietta agrees, likewise lowering her voice. "The harbormaster our client seemed to think highly of is ailing, practically on his deathbed, it seems, and his men are not doing their jobs properly." She taps her lips. "So, then, how about spying upon them from above, and then approaching directly?"
[15:49] <@Rudy> "Approaching them directly? That sounds rather bold."
[15:49] <@Miranda> "I've always been a fan of being more cautious. Depending on how many men we're dealing with, perhaps the direct approach would not be the best idea."
[15:50] <@Henrietta> "We don't all have to come together," Henrietta points out. "In fact, if we are unable to discern anything, some of us may yet make enough of a scene to serve as distraction, while another sneaks aboard the ship."
[15:51] <@Glenn> "I suppose whomever makes a distraction would have to be fast on their feet, if so..."
[15:51] <@Rudy> "You suppose we can talk our way into their confidence?"
[15:51] <@Miranda> Miranda smiles slyly. "I can be distracting."
[15:51] <@Henrietta> "My father told me many tales where he managed to do just that!" Henrietta proudly declares. "It is surely possible!"
[15:52] <@Glenn> "This close to something big happening though? I doubt it. They wouldn't want to risk things so close to the payoff, right?"
[15:54] <@Miranda> "They're criminals, Glenn. They're not the brightest bunch." She scoffs.
[15:54] <@Rudy> "Oh, I don't know. They have the risk of taking us on, or leaving a pair of her ladyship's agents to work against them, rather than with them," replies Rudy, with a shrug. "It's a delicate matter, I confess..."
[15:55] * @Henrietta nods at Rudy, some of her cheer disappearing. "Nonetheless, we do seem to lack in options."
[15:56] <@Miranda> "And the longer we wait, the lower our chances of success are."
[15:56] <@Rudy> "That is very true!" replies Rudy, nodding. "Oh, you mean the- I mean, yes! I have an appointment at midnight, so let's get going, shall we?"
[15:57] <@Glenn> "I wish I could offer some options with some alchemical goods to use to distract, smoke bombs, tanglefoot bags and the like, but with us being on a limited time table, I wouldn't have the time to work on such things," Glenn apologizes.
[15:57] <@Rudy> Rudy pauses. "What can you all do?" he asks, glancing from person to person. "I suppose I have Myra if things get a little rough..."
[15:59] <@Henrietta> "Nothing that happens to be particularly geared towards solving this matter easily, I would bet," Henrietta responds. "As I've said before, I am an initiate into the arcane, and I could hold my own against another, though I can't say how I would fare against a trained soldier or a mob."
[16:00] <@Rudy> "
[16:00] <@Rudy> OOC: never mind that
[16:07] <@Glenn> "I should do alright in a fight, I suppose, particularly if I keep my distance. My concern would be if they swarm us. I...have a potion I have been working on that might make things more interesting if it comes to that, it was something I was working on that should theoretically boost combat ability, but it's highly untested, so not entirely sure what would happen..." Glenn admits.
[16:08] <@Glenn> "So I suppose I would really prefer to keep some distance if a fight breaks out. I have a good arm on me, and I carry enough chemicals that I can quickly mix into something explosive and lob at enemies, like a bomb."
[16:09] <@Miranda> "I deal in the arts of fortune, misfortune, and the arcane. I'm not very good in a fistfight, though. Como tends to keep most people at bay." she says, tickling her raven's beak.
[16:09] <@Rudy> "I should hope that we don't get into a brawl at all, really. If we get into a fight, from my standpoint, it's a fight to get away!"
[16:10] * @Glenn feels a bit awkward about the explanation of his abilities, hoping it doesn't paint him like an arsonist or something criminal like that...
[16:12] <@Rudy> "Anyway, shall we get going?" asks Rudy, starting to depart!
[16:14] * @Miranda stands, leaving a handful of small coins on the table. "Ready."
[16:15] <@Ebiris> OOC: Okay, so you want the bird to fly around looking for the Blue Nixie? Where will the rest of you be?
[16:16] <@Rudy> OOC: Not that far away. Like a block down or something, loitering somewhere discreet?
[16:16] <@Miranda> OOC: Yes please.
[16:16] <@Henrietta> OOC: Sounds right for me
[16:18] <@Ebiris> Heading out towards the Smith's guildhall, a sturdy but somewhat overelaborate structure with seemingly pointless iron girders and meshes adorning it, no doubt some sort of display of craftsmanship, the party nears pier four, with pier five seen some ways further one. They're both quite lengthy piers, projecting deep into the inner harbour with dozens of ships moored all over, from heavy galleons to more nimble looking sloops and yachts, and numerous smaller rowboats and rafts and gondolas squeezed in. Furthermore, several other ships are moored to floats in the middle of the water, taking up whatever space they can get in the harbour.
[16:18] <@Ebiris> *some ways further on
[16:19] <@Glenn> "Which one was it again?" Glenn asks of his companions as he looks over the ships, trying to pick out the one they need.
[16:20] <@Ebiris> Lavinia said it was a caravel, which is a mid-sized merchant vessel. There are a few that fit into that category, but none of the ones docked near where you stand at the base of pier four seem to have the correct name emblazoned on their prow.
[16:20] <@Rudy> "It's the one near the guildhall, on pier five" replies Rudy, attempting to pick out a likely candidate!
[16:21] <@Rudy> "It might be a bit far for us to see from here, though..."
[16:23] <@Miranda> "I think it's a bit further down."
[16:27] <@Ebiris> The docks are starting to quiet down as most workers and sailors are gravitating towards taverns which is limiting the foot traffic. A few sturdy looking fellows are busy unloading the Triton's Revenge II nearby, stacking up large crates on the dock. It's not nearly as busy as during the day, but not quite desolate either. A few ships have lanterns lit against the rapidly darkening twilight, movement seen on their decks.
[16:27] <@Glenn> "Wish I had a spyglass," Glenn notes absently as he checks to see if there's a relatively quiet path that they can travel through to move closer to pier five.
[16:27] <@Rudy> There seem to be so many people wandering around that a few more won't go noticed, so Rudy shrugs his shoulders and begins to head down further towards pier five, to see if he can get a look at the Nixie itself!
[16:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll perception if you're heading to pier 5 and looking
[16:28] <@Henrietta> There really seems no better alternative, and Henrietta finds herself accompanying Rudy on his way.
[16:28] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 perception
[16:28] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 perception and gets 16." [d20=10]
[16:28] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[16:28] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 17." [1d20=15]
[16:29] <@Rudy> roll 1d20 I can't see anything!
[16:29] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20 I can't see anything! and gets 12." [1d20=12]
[16:29] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+12 maybe Myra can though, she can talk and has int 7!
[16:29] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+12 maybe Myra can though, she can talk and has int 7! and gets 28." [1d20=16]
[16:29] <@Miranda> roll 1d20
[16:29] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda rolls 1d20 and gets 20." [1d20=20]
[16:32] -> *Rudy* As you near pier 5 you can more easily see the boats docked up its length on the near side. You promptly note there is a somewhat large gap up towards the end of the pier, and as you get closer you happen to spot a ship matching Lavinia's description is moored to a float about a hundred feet out in the water from that gap. It's lit up and seems to have people active on it, but you can't quite read its name from this distance.
[16:32] -> *Glenn* As you near pier 5 you can more easily see the boats docked up its length on the near side. You promptly note there is a somewhat large gap up towards the end of the pier, where you'd expect a ship to be given how busy it is.
[16:32] -> *Henrietta* As you near pier 5 you can more easily see the boats docked up its length on the near side.
[16:32] -> *Miranda* As you near pier 5 you can more easily see the boats docked up its length on the near side. You promptly note there is a somewhat large gap up towards the end of the pier, and as you get closer you happen to spot a ship matching Lavinia's description is moored to a float about a hundred feet out in the water from that gap. It's lit up and seems to have people active on it, and you think you can make out the name 'Blue Nixie' painted on its prow.
[16:32] -> *Rudy* Myra can see what Rudy sees, and her superior eyes can even make out the 'Blue Nixie' sign painted on its prow. She can count five people visible on the deck.
[16:33] <@Rudy> Myra tugs on Rudy's sleeve, and he leans close to her chest and cups a hand to his ear. When he straightens up, he nods. "It's just over there," he says, gesturing to a ship about a hundred feet out from the pier. "About five people on it, Myra thinks, looking busy."
[16:35] <@Miranda> "Yes, I see it too. I think I can see the name on it up ahead. The one ship about a hundred feet out."
[16:35] * @Glenn stares at Rudy's 'pet' and raises an eyebrow. "Impressive eyesight," he says as a compliment.
[16:35] <@Rudy> Myra makes an appreciative-sounding burble at Glenn's compliment.
[16:36] <@Glenn> "A ship seems to be missing from the pier, given the busy time. Anything to worry about, you lot think?" Glenn adds in.
[16:36] <@Henrietta> "Can she swim, too?"
[16:37] <@Rudy> "Uh, not very well," replies Rudy. "There might be a rip or something in the tide, I'd rather not have her go for a dive."
[16:37] <@Miranda> "Perhaps, Glenn, but a ship not in port is unlikely to cause us trouble in the near future."
[16:39] <@Rudy> "It's a port, ships come and go," replies Rudy, shrugging. "The main question is this- how can we get a better look at what they're up to? We might be able to find a rowboat or something and get across, actually.." he mutters, looking around the pier for a moment for any likely watercraft.
[16:39] <@Glenn> "Hrm, I hope so..." Glenn mutters, though he resolves to keep an eye out for ships arriving on that spot every now and then. Just in case.
[16:40] <@Ebiris> There are numerous smaller boats tied up next to the pier, some are even helpfully close to ladders, but even the ones that aren't seem light enough that they could be dragged towards one by their mooring lines.
[16:40] <@Henrietta> "I doubt we would succeed undetected," Henrietta muses. "Still, you were confident this is about smuggling? We could try to reason with the authorities."
[16:42] <@Rudy> "Well, I don't have any hard evidence, but the rumors I heard indicated a lot of that goes on. And a boat that isn't even yours would be perfect for moving and storing contraband."
[16:43] <@Rudy> "The fact that there are people on it at all is strange, if it is supposed to be moored until the owner pays up."
[16:43] <@Miranda> "Authorities are corrupt, and we lack solid proof. I might have another way." says Miranda, lifting the raven from he shoulder gingerly and whispering in its ear, then releasing it into the air to fly toward the ship.
[16:45] <@Ebiris> The bird flies through the air towards the siezed vessel! No seagulls immediately attack nor do any bored sailors shoot it with a crossbow, so things are looking good so far!
[16:45] <@Glenn> "A scouting raven? What, will it let us know what it sees afterwards?" the alchemist jokes, before remembering Miranda's talent. "Wait, the bird -can- talk?"
[16:45] <@Ebiris> OOC: feel free to describe exactly what the bird does
[16:46] * @Miranda nods.
[16:46] <@Glenn> "That's...unnatural. Helpful, though, I suppose..."
[16:46] <@Rudy> "You aren't a very worldly fellow, are you?"
[16:47] <@Miranda> The raven glides on the quiet air, looping in a circle around the boat before settling on the top of the main mast.
[16:47] <@Miranda> "I'm a witch, we make stuff happen."
[16:49] <@Glenn> "Well, I've seen mages do such things before, but it still seems odd to me, honestly. And somehow, a talking animal feels stranger than the thought of a ball of fire. Not entirely sure why..."
[16:49] <@Ebiris> Flying over the Nixie, Como can see the five individuals mentioned by Myra. Settling on top of the mast gives him a commanding view of the deck below - three individuals seem to be climbing amidst the sails and mast, doing something his bird-brain can't begin to imagine, another is leaning on the ship's rail and staring out over the inner harbour, while the last is standing by the ships' wheel on the quarterdeck, occassionally pacing.
[16:53] <@Ebiris> The foredeck seems unoccupied, and the men on the rigging seem distracted enough that they probably wouldn't notice anyone approaching from the front of the ship, although the man leaning on the side of the main deck might.
[16:53] <@Ebiris> *people rather than men, gender neutral go
[16:53] <@Miranda> Como watches for another few moments before flying off, looping around the ship once in a wide arc to view the hull before returning to the docks. He flies out, then back in up behind the group, settling back on Miranda's shoulder.
[16:56] <@Rudy> "What's the verdict?"
[16:57] * Miranda is now known as Miranda_Altair
[16:59] * @Miranda_Altair holds a whispered conversation with Como, looking entirely too gleeful to be doing so before nodding and fishing out a small piece of hard bread, feeding it to the bird.
[17:00] <@Miranda_Altair> "There are five people on above the deck, three on the sails, one on the ship's rail facing us, and one pacing by the ship's wheel."
[17:01] <@Henrietta> "Well then. The direct approach, once more? They may well be accustomed to miscreants trying to extort money from them," Henrietta suggests, not seeing much else they could do other than her other idea, already shot down. "We'll likely learn more from approaching these five."
[17:01] <@Miranda_Altair> "The foredeck is unoccupied and is likely our best shot at sneaking aboard. We might get seen by the man watching the harbor, though."
[17:02] <@Glenn> "Could you have your raven distract him, perhaps? Just keep flying around him or some such and being annoying to him so he focuses on the bird instead of the harbor?"
[17:02] * @Henrietta shrugs lightly. "If some wish to sneak instead, we could just as well try and take two row boats?"
[17:03] <@Miranda_Altair> "The one by the wheel is likely either Vark or one of his lieutenants. They all appear distracted and a bit skittish."
[17:03] <@Rudy> "I'll see if I can find someone willing to loan them out," offers Rudy, prepared to go and chat to a few sailors to see where some might be found.
[17:04] * @Miranda_Altair nods. "I'd rather not swim. My clothes may fall apart."
[17:04] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll diplomacy, Rudy?
[17:04] <@Henrietta> "I'll help!" Henrietta chirps, all too happy to help advance their cause.
[17:04] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+9 no I went first THE BOAT-TAKING IS MINE
[17:04] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+9 no I went first THE BOAT-TAKING IS MINE and gets 14." [1d20=5]
[17:04] <@Rudy> OOC: I kid please help me <_<
[17:05] <@Ebiris> OOC: are Glenn and Miranda sticking around while Rudy and Henrietta go looking for someone to rent them a boat or two?
[17:05] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+10 diplo!
[17:05] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+10 diplo! and gets 23." [1d20=13]
[17:05] * @Glenn waits for Rudy and Henrietta!
[17:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: was that an aid or did you go off on your own, Henrietta?
[17:07] <@Henrietta> OOC: No preference. Up to you!
[17:07] <@Ebiris> OOC: No, it's really up to you.
[17:07] <@Rudy> OOC: LEt's say we split up
[17:07] <@Henrietta> OOC: Okay, then a different boat
[17:07] <@Rudy> OOC: Cover more ground. So you went on your own.
[17:07] <@Rudy> OOC: Right.
[17:07] <@Ebiris> roll 1d6
[17:07] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d6 and gets 1." [1d6=1]
[17:07] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4
[17:07] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 and gets 1." [1d4=1]
[17:10] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: I'll follow Henrietta
[17:10] <@Ebiris> Rudy and Henrietta are both in luck, the latter finds a fisherman just stumbling out of a nearby tavern who allows the use of his rowboat for the next hour for a princely gold coin. He comes back with Rudy and points it out at the near edge of pier 4, a simply and sturdy looking little wooden boat big enough to fit six with a little squeezing. Henrietta is likewise lucky in finding a gondola pilot who gallantly offers to carry her anywhere she likes within the harbour for no charge at all, his more stately but also more cramped craft able to carry two passengers in soft comfort. In the ten minutes they're gone, Glenn keeps watch on the Nixie but doesn't see any further developments.
[17:11] <@Ebiris> *the former finds a fisherman
[17:12] <@Rudy> Rudy quickly relays his lucky find to his compatriots! "We can all fit on it, and we might be able to get on their blind side," he reports.
[17:14] <@Henrietta> Quite excited at her success, Henrietta asks to be ferried towards the Blue Nixie in a rather open fashion.
[17:15] <@Glenn> "That's useful," Glenn says as he waits for Rudy to lead them to the fisherman's boat.
[17:15] <@Ebiris> OOC: so Miranda and Henrietta want to take a romantic gondola ride up to the Nixie while Rudy and Glenn row themselves up on the rowboat?
[17:15] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Hawt
[17:16] <@Rudy> The two manly men have no need of expert boating specialists to ferry them around, and thus begin their epic journey across the sea!
[17:18] <@Ebiris> The fisherman just shakes his head and wanders off as he watches Rudy and Glenn start their rather erratic progress as they start to row themselves towards the Nixie, while the gallant young gondolier ferries Miranda and Henrietta in the same direction. The man on the deck of the Nixie seems to have noticed their progress as they begin poling along directly towards the vessel, and as Miranda and Henrietta get within forty feet (Rudy and Gleen are a bit further behind) he calls out. "Ho there! Mind yer way!"
[17:19] <@Henrietta> "Hello there!" Henrietta calls out to the boat. "This would not happen to be the Blue Nixie, would it?"
[17:20] <@Ebiris> He pauses a moment and turns to the people on the rigging. "Get yer arses's down!" he yells as a woman appears leaning over the quarterdeck to peer down as well. "What's it to ye?" he asks, turning back to Henrietta.
[17:22] <@Rudy> Rudy attempts to pilot the rowboat eratically towards the blind side of the Nixie, squinting to see if it's actually possible to climb up the side without assistance from those up the top.
[17:23] <@Ebiris> The wood looks a bit damp and slippy, but there are lots of ropes hanging off the side so it might be possible...
[17:23] <@Henrietta> "Oh, how excellent!" Henrietta says, sounding rather uplifted. "This is where I can find this Soller Vark, is it not? I would be ever so delighted to have us a chat! Over tea, perhaps?"
[17:24] * @Miranda_Altair discreetly takes a closer look while giving a friendly smile to the woman peering down at them.
[17:25] <@Ebiris> "The boss is busy! Come back tomorrow!" the man snaps while the woman gives Miranda an unfriendly glare. They seem fairly uninterested in Rudy and Glenn as they pilot their boat around rather than towards the Nixie.
[17:25] <@Ebiris> "They look rather rough, don't they?" the gondolier mutters worriedly from beind the two female mages.
[17:26] <@Ebiris> The woman on the deck is wearing leather armour and has a crossbow and sword belted to her waist, her brown hair is cropped short and she has a nose that looks like it's been broken a few times.
[17:28] <@Rudy> Rudy sighs. "Come on, Myra," he mutters, feeling a sudden clenching of the bowels as he realises what madness he is to undertake, before attempting to scale up the side of the boat!
[17:28] * @Henrietta glances at the gondolier at his words, contemplating it, before nodding resolutely. "Oh yes. I believe you are quite right." Returning her attention towards the Nixie, she raises her voice. "I'm afraid that I've come on a matter of great importance and, like your boss, find myself rather pressed for time. It would be excellent if he could free himself for a minute or five, I must say."
[17:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll diplo
[17:28] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+10
[17:28] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+10 and gets 23." [1d20=13]
[17:28] * @Glenn takes a deep breath of air as he tries to psych himself up. "Here goes nothing..." he mutters as he follows after Rudy.
[17:28] <@Ebiris> roll 3#1d20-1
[17:29] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 3#1d20-1 and gets 32." [3#1d20-1 = 1, 19, 12]
[17:29] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll climb Rudy/Myra/Glenn
[17:29] <@Glenn> roll d20+1
[17:29] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+1 and gets 11." [d20=10]
[17:29] <@Rudy> roll 1d20
[17:29] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20 and gets 15." [1d20=15]
[17:29] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3 myra
[17:29] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3 myra and gets 18." [1d20=15]
[17:30] <@Ebiris> "Oh, for fuck's..." the man glares at Henrietta a moment longer before turning half away. "Oi! Boss! Someone here wants ta talk ta ye!" he hollers...
[17:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: which side are Rudy and co climbing up? Fore or aft?
[17:30] <@Rudy> OOC: I basically want to be far away from where all the dudes are right now
[17:30] <@Rudy> OOC: Whichever is more conductive to that
[17:31] <@Ebiris> OOC: fore it is
[17:32] <@Ebiris> "Hey!" a high pitched girlish voice squeals from amidst the rigging. "There's some folks climbing up at the front a' the boat!" Rudy can see one of the people up amidst the sails still somewhat high up and pointing at him as he scrambles over the railing at the foredeck, Myra and Glenn close behind.
[17:34] <@Ebiris> Two men have now dropped down from the rigging onto the main deck and pulled out clubs, while the man talking to Henrietta scowls and pulls a crossbow to train down on her. "What the fuck's going on here?" he demands crossly, the woman up on the quarterdeck likewise aiming a crossbow at Miranda.
[17:34] <@Glenn> "So much for that plan..." Glenn mutters as he tries to climb as quickly as he can behind Rudy and his pet.
[17:35] <@Rudy> "Thought we'd pop up and say hello, you know? See what's going on here," remarks Rudy, leaning against the side of the boat, ready to make a quick escape by falling off at any time. "See, me and the boys saw there's all this activity on this here boat. Seemed a mite odd to us, seeing as it's impounded and all."
[17:35] * @Henrietta looks surprised, though more at how quickly her companions were discovered, if she were truthful. "How dare you!" she then exclaims, quickly turning angry. "You point that thing at a great mage as myself?!"
[17:36] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll intimidate, Henrietta
[17:36] <@Ebiris> OOC: and Rudy
[17:36] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 not entirely unscary
[17:36] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 not entirely unscary and gets 17." [1d20=12]
[17:36] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+10
[17:36] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+10 and gets 30." [1d20=20]
[17:36] <@Rudy> OOC: I would be aiding her if it's done that way
[17:36] <@Miranda_Altair> "What the what what?" says Miranda, discreetly casting her Misfortune hex at the woman.
[17:37] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: DC 15

[17:40] <@Ebiris> The man on deck pales and lowers his weapon. "Oh, I see... ye want a piece of the action, is that right?" he spits as a bald headed man emerges from the stairs under the foredeck.
[17:40] <@Ebiris> "What the fuck's going on now, we're supposed to be getting ready ta leave!" he snarls.
[17:40] <@Ebiris> As this happens, however, the woman on the quarterdeck suddenly cries out and fires her crossbow at Miranda before ducking under the railing and out of sight. "She's got the evil eye, so she does!"

[17:41] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d8 and gets 1." [1d8=1]
[17:41] <@Ebiris> The bolt grazes just past Miranda's shoulder, ripping her clothes and drawing blood before it penetrates the cushion behind her and elicits a yelp from the gondolier!
[17:42] <@Ebiris> She's still visible to Rudy and Glenn, cowering fearfully behind the shelter of the ship's railing.
[17:42] <@Rudy> "Oi, oi, oi! Don't be getting hasty, love! We're just here to talk, we are," interjects Rudy. "See, now, your boss has got the right idea, don't he?"
[17:43] <@Miranda_Altair> Anger marrs Miranda's features as she lunges for a rope and begins to climb.
[17:43] * @Henrietta calls upon the arcane forces of protection to ward her in the showiest way she had ever cast this spell. Her credentials as a proper mage must be established to deter such unseemly behavior!
[17:44] <@Ebiris> "Like fuck!" the bald headed man snarls, drawing a jagged looking scimitar. "To arms, you bastards, lets dunk these boarders into the drink!"
[17:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll initiative

[17:44] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Goddamn
[17:48] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Vark > Thug 1 (deck) > Rudy > Myra > Glenn > Thug 2 (deck) > Henrietta > Thug 3 (deck) > Thug 4 (rigging) > Miranda > Thug 5 (quarterdeck) > Thug (?) > Thug (?)'
[17:49] <@Ebiris> The main deck is ten feet up from the water, the quarterdeck and foredeck are just under twenty feet up.
[17:49] <@Ebiris> The boat is about 25 feet wide and 110 feet long.
[17:50] <@Ebiris> The bald headed man stalks up the stairs onto the foredeck facing Rudy and company, brandishing his scimitar threateningly. "Get the fuck outta here if'n ye know what's good for ye!" he snarls, as the one on the deck keeps his crossbow trained on Henrietta...
[17:50] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[17:50] <@Ebiris> OOC: Vark is about 15 feet away
[17:53] <@Rudy> "You think you're a real tough guy, Vark, eh? Taken down ol' Hookhand, I hear 'em say about you. 'course, I hear 'em say you've had a few dangerous encounters with a bottle, too!" remarks Rudy, pressing a hand into Myra. "Seems to me you're a little man, looking to make it into the big leagues!" An inky blackness flows from his skin towards her, and she's covered in a layer of oozing sludge!
[17:53] <@Rudy> OOC: shield
[17:53] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Myra
[17:54] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: You wanna get nuts? Come on, let's get nuts!
[17:54] <@Rudy> Myra gleefully glomps towards Vark, rolling across the deck towards him until she's suddenly in his face, prepared to slather him in claws and teeth! "I think you need to learn your place!" OOC: myra moves forward and attacks with a bite!
[17:54] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Remind me which deck the chick who shot me is on?
[17:54] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 chomp!
[17:55] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 chomp! and gets 22." [1d20=18]
[17:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: she's on the quarterdeck, the back of the ship opposite where Rudy and company are
[17:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: that's a hit
[17:55] <@Rudy> roll 1d6+3 thought so
[17:55] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d6+3 thought so and gets 4." [1d6=1]
[17:55] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: then that's where I'm going.
[17:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: yeah, wait your turn
[17:57] <@Ebiris> Myra's multiple mouths do their bloody work despite the burly dockhand raising up an arm to ward her off, and losing several strips of skin for his trouble! "Ahhh! Ye fucking monster! I'll kill ye!" he roars furiously!
[17:57] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[17:59] * @Glenn looks around, and with it just being him and Rudy up top (well, and his pet), and a lot of armed thugs... "Well...bottoms up, I guess. Here goes nothing," the alchemist mutters as he draws the untested potion he'd spoken of earlier, the liquid visibly glowing and bubbling within the container, and hesitates only briefly before chugging it down. Immediately after, his form begins to shift, his body becoming more hairy and his own hair len
[17:59] <@Glenn> ooc: cut off - and his own hair lengthening, his muscles becoming leaner and his fingers beginning to resemble claws. Smiling toothily, showing fangs, he curls his fingers. "Okay...this feels -nice-."
[18:00] <@Glenn> ooc: Used mutagen, +4 dex -2 wis
[18:00] <@Ebiris> One of the men on the deck hurries up the stairs to support Vark, his eyes widening in fright as he comes face to... maw with Myra, but nonetheless lashing out with his club to smack her!
[18:00] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[18:00] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 8." [1d20=6]
[18:00] <@Rudy> OOC: ac 19
[18:00] <@Ebiris> But his strike is a poor one and only glances off her sickly hide!
[18:01] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[18:01] <@Henrietta> A snap of her fingers is all it takes for a violet bud to appear in Henrietta's right hand. Another gesture, as she extends her hand towards the fool daring to aim his unseemly weapon at her person, and an impossibly lengthy vine snakes out of the now-blooming flower! "Surrender, and show penance at this offense," Henrietta declares, "and then there shall be mercy!"
[18:01] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+8 trip
[18:01] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+8 trip and gets 10." [1d20=2]
[18:01] <@Ebiris> As Henrietta starts to call on her arcane powers, a crossbow bolt surges down at her, the thug clearly having been waiting for that!
[18:01] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+1
[18:01] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 and gets 5." [1d20=4]
[18:02] <@Henrietta> OOC: 16
[18:02] <@Ebiris> It misses, puncturing more of the gondola's plush cushioning to the considerable alarm of the gondolier, but the thug is able to duck his head just in time to avoid the whipping vine!
[18:02] * Retrieving #dunes modes...
[18:03] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Vark > Rudy > Myra > Glenn > Thug 2 (deck) > Thug 1 (deck) > Henrietta > Thug 3 (deck) > Thug 4 (rigging) > Miranda > Thug 5 (quarterdeck) > Thug (?) > Thug (?)'
[18:04] <@Ebiris> The other one on the deck hurries up to join the melee on the foredeck, his face turning green at the sight of Myra and Glenn but still bravely trying to bash the eldritch monster Rudy brought into this world!
[18:04] <@Henrietta> Disappointed, Henrietta nevertheless attempts to latch onto the ropes and swing herself towards the deck!
[18:04] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[18:04] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 11." [1d20=9]
[18:04] <@Ebiris> OOC: climb check, Henrietta
[18:04] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+3
[18:04] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 and gets 10." [1d20=7]
[18:05] <@Ebiris> It's slippery, but the ropes are helpful enough for Henrietta to scramble up and haul herself onto the deck next to the crossbow wielding man! Meanwhile the girl on the rigging screams out a battlecry as she drops down on top of Henrietta with a dagger plunging ahead of her!
[18:05] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3
[18:05] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 and gets 15." [1d20=12]
[18:05] <@Ebiris> She misses barely, however, stabbing into the deck and yanking her dagger out with a scowl!
[18:05] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda
[18:06] <@Henrietta> "Hmph. Who do you think it is that you face, knave?" Henrietta demands to know of this angry girl.
[18:06] <@Miranda_Altair> Determination written on her face, Miranda furiously attempts to scale her way to the woman who shot at her.
[18:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: climb check
[18:07] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20 not to die!
[18:07] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 not to die! and gets 2." [1d20=2]
[18:07] <@Ebiris> Miranda leans over to grab onto the ropes but can't quite make it and her feet slip off the gondola's side before she can reach the hanging ropes, plunging her into the murky harbour waters!
[18:07] <@Ebiris> OOC: swim check
[18:08] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20 not to drown!
[18:08] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 not to drown! and gets 5." [1d20=5]
[18:09] <@Ebiris> Scrambling and thrashing in the water, Miranda can't quite keep herself afloat and descends into the depths with water filling her lungs!
[18:10] <@Ebiris> "Some bitch with a stupid hat!" the girl snaps at Henrietta as the other female thug on the quarterdeck takes heart from Miranda's plight and trains her crossbow on the sorceress, struggling to aim into the melee below!
[18:10] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20-3
[18:10] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20-3 and gets 16." [1d20=19]
[18:10] <@Ebiris> OOC: AC 16?
[18:11] <@Henrietta> OOC: Mine? Still 16. I might die.
[18:11] <@Ebiris> roll 1d8
[18:11] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d8 and gets 3." [1d8=3]
[18:11] <@Ebiris> The bolt smals into Henrietta's forearm with a painful jolt, almost knocking her off balance and causing blood to flow freely!
[18:12] <@Henrietta> "Don't you dare mock my hat!" Henrietta exclaims, taking far more offense at that than any wounds.
[18:12] <@Ebiris> Meanwhile up on the foredeck, Vark foregoes his sword and instead tries to shove Myra over the railing!
[18:12] <@Ebiris> OOC: she gets an AoO
[18:12] <@Rudy> OOC: She had to move forward to hit him, how can she be near the railing?
[18:13] <@Ebiris> OOC: Because he climbed the stairs up onto the foredeck and said stairs are at the side of the ship.
[18:13] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 I'll take the AoO, no worries
[18:13] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 I'll take the AoO, no worries and gets 9." [1d20=5]
[18:14] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3 CMB check, she gets +2 to her defence since the railing is something of a barrier
[18:14] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 CMB check, she gets +2 to her defence since the railing is something of a barrier and gets 12." [1d20=9]
[18:14] <@Ebiris> OOC: CMD?
[18:14] <@Rudy> OOC: it's 16 with the bonus
[18:14] <@Rudy> OOC: sorry, 17
[18:15] <@Ebiris> He manages to evade her snapping teeth and flailing claws enough to get a good shove in, but she's only pushed against the barrier meant to keep sailors from being swept away in storms, not even close to being knocked over!
[18:15] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Rudy
[18:15] <@Rudy> "I'm warning you, Vark! Last chance to give it up and pay your dues! The boss is real disappointed that you're doing this on his turf!" announces Rudy, pulling his bow and firing a shot into Vark at point-blank range!
[18:16] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 haha I have point blank+precise shot, bitches!
[18:16] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 haha I have point blank+precise shot, bitches! and gets 19." [1d20=14]
[18:16] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[18:16] <@Rudy> roll 1d8+1
[18:16] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d8+1 and gets 6." [1d8=5]
[18:17] <@Ebiris> Vark staggers as the bolt catches him in the collar! Blood spurts and flows from the wound and he growls. "I'll fuck yer boss after I'm done with you!" he snarls at Rudy, but is starting to look a bit unsteady on his feet.
[18:17] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra
[18:18] <@Rudy> "Oh, Myra'll give you lovin' enough if you wanna be like that!" shoots back Rudy, as his unspeakable minion begins to set about her grisly work!
[18:18] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 BITE
[18:18] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 CLAW
[18:18] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 BITE and gets 11." [1d20=7]
[18:18] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 CLAW and gets 19." [1d20=15]
[18:18] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 CLAW
[18:18] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 CLAW and gets 12." [1d20=8]
[18:18] <@Ebiris> OOC: claw hit
[18:18] <@Rudy> roll 1d4+3
[18:18] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d4+3 and gets 5." [1d4=2]
[18:19] <@Rudy> "Bombs away, Glenny boy! Show this miscreants what they get for messin' around!"
[18:19] <@Ebiris> Myra's claw rakes him across his bare chest, four long and straight lines oozing blood! Vark pales abruptly at this and turns his head towards the main deck. "Burn them!" he screams raggedly. "Burn them all!"
[18:19] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[18:23] <@Glenn> "Burning you say? Hope your pet can take a hit, Rudy, this might sting!" Glenn cackles as he quickly pulls a few vials and mixes them rapidly as he launches the concoction at Vark. "Bombs away!"
[18:23] <@Glenn> roll d20+6
[18:23] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 and gets 16." [d20=10]
[18:24] <@Ebiris> OOC: is there a save for that?
[18:24] <@Ebiris> OOC: hits Vark, anyway
[18:24] <@Glenn> ooc: ranged attack. If it hits, does 1d6+5 damage. Then splash damage does 6 damage, with reflex saves half
[18:24] <@Glenn> roll d6+5
[18:24] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d6+5 and gets 8." [d6=3]
[18:24] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll your damage, Myra make your save
[18:24] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+1 myra has a reflex save!
[18:24] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+1 myra has a reflex save! and gets 3." [1d20=2]
[18:24] <@Rudy> OOC: myra refuses
[18:24] <@Glenn> ooc: save dc is 15 btw
[18:25] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+2
[18:25] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+2 and gets 31." [2#1d20+2 = 9, 22]
[18:26] <@Glenn> "Sorry, pet! Your boss did say to bomb away though!" Glenn shouts as he starts moving closer to the chaos, hopefully offering Myra's opponents something enticing to attack.
[18:26] <@Ebiris> Vark goes up in flames, screaming horribly and tumbling over the side of the ship to sink into the water with a sizzling splash! Myra and the two thugs are little better off, clothes and skin catching alight with equal speed! One manages to pat them down and avoid the worst of it, but neither looks at all happy with how things turned out!
[18:26] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Rudy > Myra > Glenn > Thug 2 (deck) > Thug 1 (deck) > Henrietta > Thug 3 (deck) > Thug 4 (rigging) > Miranda > Thug 5 (quarterdeck) > Thug (?) > Thug (?)'
[18:28] <@Ebiris> Vark's henchmen don't much care for this development, and the one engaged with Myra and most badly burnt attempts to dive over after Vark and into the harbour!
[18:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: AoO for Myra if she cares
[18:29] <@Rudy> OOC: She does not
[18:29] <@Rudy> "Right! You blokes ain't gonna be getting paid no more!" shouts Rudy. "Best you all quit fooling about, eh?"
[18:29] <@Ebiris> He escapes with a splash! Meanwhile the one who first shot and missed Henrietta curses and scrambles over the side down onto the gondola! "Start fucking rowing!" he snarls, pointing his crossbow at the hapless gondolier!
[18:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[18:33] <@Henrietta> "Mock the hat that I took great care to choose for my travels, would you?" Henrietta asks the dagger-wielding thug, attempting to disarm her with another summoned vine.
[18:33] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+6
[18:33] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+6 and gets 25." [1d20=19]
[18:34] <@Ebiris> "Ow!" she cries out girlishly as the vine snaps her wrist, causing her dagger to drop to the deck with a clatter! Meanwhile the remaining thug up with Myra follows his comrade's example in diving into the harbour to escape this bloodbath!
[18:35] <@Henrietta> "Apologize! Say you're sorry!"
[18:36] <@Ebiris> Scowling, the girl instead lunges barehanded at Henrietta!
[18:36] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2 CMD?
[18:36] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 CMD? and gets 7." [1d20=5]
[18:36] <@Henrietta> OOC: I'm actually quite strong! 15
[18:37] <@Ebiris> She stumbles and gropes blindly, however, before righting herself. "Fine, it's a nice hat! Just don't kill me!" she begs as her attempt to steal said hat fails.
[18:37] <@Ebiris> Miranda continues sinking in the dark water, barely seeing the shadowed bulks of the boats above her...
[18:37] <@Ebiris> OOC: swim check
[18:38] * @Henrietta nods in approval. "It is good that you see the error of your ways," she allows magnanimously. "You may now tell me what Vark was doing here tonight."
[18:38] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20
[18:38] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 and gets 18." [1d20=18]
[18:38] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: AIR!
[18:38] <@Ebiris> Surging mightly upwards, Miranda gets her head above the water, sucking in great gulps of precious life-giving air!
[18:39] <@Ebiris> OOC: you can make a climb check to board either the Nixie or the gondola, since both are close
[18:40] <@Miranda_Altair> Seeing the man attempting to hijack the gondola, Miranda says, "Oh hells no." and attempts to climb aboard.
[18:40] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20
[18:40] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 and gets 6." [1d20=6]
[18:41] <@Ebiris> Kicking and grabbing and scrambling, the bedraggled sea-witch manages to haul herself up, dripping cold and smelly water all over the fine upholstery of the gondola. The gondolier seems to take heart from this, steadfastly refusing to bow to the thug's demands now that the odds are hopefully evened!
[18:42] <@Ebiris> "Just keep them busy a little longer, Trucy!" the thug on the quarterdeck yells down to the girl with Henrietta, scrambling down herself and dashing through the door that Vark emerged from earlier! Meanwhile a loud cacophony of shrieks and howls and caws is starting to be heard from the bowels of the ship...
[18:42] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[18:43] <@Rudy> "Come, Myra!" yells Rudy, running after the thug into the cabin, oozing minion in tow!
[18:45] <@Ebiris> The  main deck is about seventy five feet long, so Rudy can't make it all the way, but he and Myra get close enough to see through the door, seeing what looks to be a navigation or meeting room immediately ahead, and a door open beyond that where the female thug is dimly visible!
[18:45] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[18:45] * @Glenn also follows after Rudy and Myra, moving as much as he can.
[18:46] <@Ebiris> The one on the gondola scowls at Miranda's bedraggled appearance and gives her a kick to try and knock her overboard!
[18:46] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2 CMD?
[18:46] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 CMD? and gets 11." [1d20=9]
[18:46] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: 12 holy crap! I WON!
[18:46] <@Ebiris> But with a deft block, Miranda pushes his unsteady kick away, no real force put into it thanks to the unsteadily swaying gondola!
[18:47] <@Ebiris> "We were smuggling animals!" the girl accosted by Henrietta cries. "Exotics, y'know?"
[18:47] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[18:49] <@Henrietta> "And now your friends are burning down those helpless animals?!" Henrietta exclaims. "No, that would not do! Show me the quickest way into the hold!"
[18:51] <@Ebiris> She points to the stairs leading down under the foredeck.
[18:51] <@Henrietta> "Go on," Henrietta indicates, intending to follow her. "We have no time to lose!"
[18:52] <@Ebiris> With a somewhat sheepish expression, Trucy runs after Henrietta, the two just starting down the stairs into what looks to be the galley...
[18:52] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda
[18:53] <@Miranda_Altair> Miranda graws and grabs for the thug on the boat, her hands glowing a sickly blue.
[18:54] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Casting Chill touch
[18:54] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20
[18:54] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 and gets 2." [1d20=2]
[18:54] <@Ebiris> OOC: he doesn't have a melee weapon armed so no AoO, go ahead and attack
[18:54] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: No I'm not
[18:54] <@Ebiris> Miranda stumbles, the swaying gondola now her enemy as she misses the mark completely!
[18:55] <@Ebiris> Meanwhile a tremendous cracking crash is heard from below the deck, heard most keenly by Henrietta, followed by a blood-curdling scream and sickly wet bone-crunching sounds!
[18:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[18:55] <@Rudy> "Er... that doesn't sound like burning," suggests Rudy, steeling himself nonetheless and proceeding down the galley!
[18:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: giving up on chasing the thug beneath the quarterdeck?
[18:56] <@Rudy> OOC: Oh, I thought they were the same place.
[18:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: opposite ends of the ship
[18:56] <@Rudy> OOC: Ah
[18:56] <@Rudy> OOC: I'll keep chasing the thug
[18:56] <@Rudy> OOC: My bad
[18:57] <@Glenn> ooc: I had thought they were same place too, actually.
[18:57] <@Rudy> "Er... that doesn't sound like burning," suggests Rudy, steeling himself nonetheless and proceeding after his quarry!
[18:58] <@Ebiris> Running through the wardroom, Rudy finds what looks to be the captain's quarters, the brunette thug just in the process of hauling up a clinking leather sack from the corner, she turns to see him and Myra however and her face falls. "Shit..." She looks into the sack for a moment. "Don't suppose I can give you a few hundred gold to look the other way, no?"
[18:59] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[19:00] * @Glenn winces at the sounds of the scream, and pauses briefly to look over towards Rudy and Myra ahead of him, deciding they can probably handle one lone thug, as he turns towards the source of the scream and makes double time.
[19:01] <@Rudy> "Thinking I'll be taking that, But hey, you're not bad," remarks Rudy, eyeing the woman. "You want to meet up sometime back on shore? I'll treat ya. This is business, though. You know?"
[19:01] <@Ebiris> Glenn swiftly manages to catch up with Henrietta and Trucy in the galley downstairs, while the thug on the gondola tries to shove Miranda again!
[19:01] <@Ebiris> OOC: you're Armed with the chill touch so can AoO him
[19:02] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Taking it!
[19:02] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20
[19:02] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 and gets 12." [1d20=12]
[19:02] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[19:02] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 8." [1d20=6]
[19:02] <@Ebiris> Miranda just misses, and so does he, the two failing to accomplish much of anything as they sway and stumble at each other like two punch drunk boxers!
[19:03] <@Ebiris> "Mera!" the girl accosted by Henrietta pales at the sound of the scream, pointing to a door next to the stairs. "The hold's in there! We had this big vicious looking monster bug!"
[19:03] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[19:03] <@Ebiris> OOC: strike that, forgot it was a touch attack
[19:03] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda hits
[19:04] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Excellent Roll Fort to save, DC 15. Failure takes 1 Str damage
[19:04] <@Henrietta> "Open it, if you would!" Henrietta demands, preparing to follow through.
[19:04] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d6
[19:04] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d6 and gets 3." [1d6=3]
[19:05] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20
[19:05] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20 and gets 3." [1d20=3]
[19:05] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: 16, sorry.
[19:05] <@Ebiris> He lunges uselessly at Miranda and catches a cold grabby witch hand in the stomach! Shivering mightily, he stumbles backwards and falls off the gondola, swimming fearfully away!
[19:06] <@Miranda_Altair> "You better run!"
[19:09] <@Ebiris> Trucy nods to Henrietta and runs ahead to open the door! Inside is seen a scene of carnage, flapping and squawking parrots and canaries, tiny ornamental dogs and cats and lizards, many burnt or stuck inside rapidly burning cages, but worst of all is a woman laying on the floor with her midsection torn out and a huge spider-like creature the size of a small pony leaning over her to devour her guts, dark brown and adorned with yellow stripes and standing atop hairy spindly legs! Its front two legs are topped with flattened discs adorned with dozens of jagged hooks, and its head is dominated by terribly oversized mandibles, clacking wetly as it devours the hapless thug! Another male thug is seen backing away from the scene with wide eyes, a lit torch in his hand.

Ebiris

[19:10] * Ebiris changes topic to 'thug > bug > trucy > glenn > henrietta > miranda'
[19:11] <@Ebiris> OOC: nature is the skill to recognise it
[19:11] <@Glenn> "...What the hell were you -thinking- having that sort of beast around?" Glenn asks, finding the logic of such a beast being held captive foolish, even with his more rash mindset from the mutagen he drank.
[19:11] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 I guess if w'er all doing...
[19:11] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 I guess if w'er all doing... and gets 22." [1d20=18]

[19:12] -> *Henrietta* It's called a Rhagodessa, actually native to the Southern reaches of Athnas. It has no particular weaknesses, but its jaw is clumsy despite being powerful. It tries to grab people with those hooked forelegs before biting them.
[19:13] -> *Glenn* It's called a Rhagodessa, actually native to the Southern reaches of Athnas. It has no particular weaknesses, but its jaw is clumsy despite being powerful. It tries to grab people with those hooked forelegs before biting them. The hooks make escaping from a grapple with it by brute strenght painful, but escape artist avoids the pain
[19:13] <@Rudy> "So how 'bout you just leaves the bag there, and, you know, make yourself scarce, dearie," suggests Rudy, amiably. "Ah, hell, you can grab a fistful if you want, dear- what's your name?"
[19:15] <@Ebiris> "Well, you did just kill my last boyfriend..." the woman admits, giving Rudy a smile and reaching into the bag to grab a fistful of platinum coins. Pulling down her leather bodice and giving him an eyeful of her respectable endowments before she drops the coins into fleshy confinement and sauntering past him with a sway of her hips. "Name's Maril, catch me at the Crooked Lantern sometime?"
[19:16] <@Ebiris> The thug in the hold shakes and drops his torch before running out past Henrietta and Trucy! But the enormous insect scrambles after him, giving up its current meal to try and bring him down as well!
[19:16] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[19:16] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 18." [1d20=11]
[19:17] <@Ebiris> He screams as it grabs him with its hooked forelegs, bowling him over and dragging him closer to its jaws which proceed to take a huge bite out of him!
[19:17] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[19:17] <@Glenn> "I can't even begin to imagine how you got a Rhagodessa all the way here from Athnas, and I don't want to know -why- you'd get one either," Glenn mutters before turning to Henrietta, warning her of what he knows. "Make sure you watch out for those hooked forelegs, those are the main problem, if they get you, escape isn't going to be easy. If you can, stay to it's sides and back!"
[19:17] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 15." [1d20=11]
[19:17] <@Ebiris> roll 1d8+6
[19:17] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d8+6 and gets 7." [1d8=1]
[19:17] <@Ebiris> A huge chunk of his midsection is torn open, but he isn't quite dead yet, struggling and screaming as Glenn exposits!
[19:18] <@Ebiris> "Make it stop!" Trucy screams, grabbing a plank and rushing forward to batter the monster!
[19:18] <@Rudy> "I'll be seeing you," replies Rudy, giving the girl wink and a nod. "Phew! I say, Myra. I've really picked up this thuggery business. It's a bit touch and go, but once you get the hang of it..." he remarks, deciding to quickly rifle through the captain's room in search of that signet ring.
[19:18] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[19:18] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 7." [1d20=3]
[19:18] <@Ebiris> Her plank only bounces uselessly off it's spiny-haired carapace, however!
[19:18] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[19:18] <@Henrietta> "Less time might be spent on lecturing, perhaps, and more on bringing that horrid thing down!" Henrietta calls, ready to aid the brave yet useless-in-battle girl.
[19:20] <@Glenn> As the creature stands right in front of him, Glenn roars as he puts his sharpened appendages to good use. "Works for me!" he exclaims as he slashes at the beast's hide with his two clawed hands before trying to take a meaty chunk bite out of it.
[19:20] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 claw 1
[19:20] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 claw 1 and gets 18." [d20=12]
[19:20] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 claw 2
[19:20] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 claw 2 and gets 24." [d20=18]

[19:21] <@Ebiris> OOC: claws hit
[19:21] <@Glenn> roll 2d6+2
[19:21] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 2d6+2 and gets 8." [2d6=3, 3]
[19:21] <@Ebiris> Glenn's alchemically enhanced hands are strong enough to rend through carapace, drawing forth sickly smelling milky-white blood and a keening chitter from the oversized insect!
[19:21] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[19:23] <@Henrietta> "Bugs. Why did it have to be bugs," Henrietta laments, lashing out past Glenn with a frozen ray in order to try and bring the massive thing down for the count.
[19:23] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20-2 touch
[19:23] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20-2 touch and gets 3." [1d20=5]
[19:24] <@Ebiris> Despite the creature's size, aiming to avoid any of the other combatants is too tricky and Henrietta's ice goes wide, blasting a burning cage and causing it to ice over and quench the fire!
[19:24] <@Ebiris> The bug decides to ignore its current prey for the moment, still pinning him with its foreclaws while snapping its oversized mandibles at Glenn!
[19:24] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20
[19:24] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20 and gets 16." [1d20=16]
[19:25] <@Ebiris> OOC: AC?
[19:27] <@Ebiris> But with his currently boosted strength, Glenn grabs the mandibles before they can squeeze around him and shoves the monster back with a painful sounding crack!
[19:27] <@Glenn> ooc: 20
[19:27] <@Ebiris> Meanwhile the pinned thug frantically tries to pull himself free!
[19:27] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[19:27] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 14." [1d20=12]
[19:27] <@Ebiris> It's no use, however, and he's stuck fast at the bug's mercy!
[19:27] <@Ebiris> Trucy screams and cries and flails away with her plank at the murderous monster!
[19:27] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[19:28] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 8." [1d20=6]
[19:28] <@Ebiris> But it doesn't seem the least bit bothered by her furious assault!
[19:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[19:28] * @Glenn continues to relentlessly slash and bite at the creature. "Haha, don't like being on the opposite side of the menu, do you?" the mad alchemist taunts.
[19:28] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 claw
[19:28] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 claw and gets 20." [d20=14]
[19:28] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 claw
[19:28] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 claw and gets 11." [d20=5]
[19:28] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 bite
[19:28] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 bite and gets 20." [d20=14]
[19:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: bite and claw hit
[19:29] <@Glenn> roll d6+1
[19:29] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d6+1 and gets 4." [d6=3]
[19:29] <@Glenn> roll d8+1
[19:29] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d8+1 and gets 8." [d8=7]
[19:29] <@Ebiris> More of the monster's head and abdomen is bashed and rent open, a chittering cry of pain heard as it siezes and thrashes in pain, its legs flailing out in a fury!
[19:29] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[19:29] * @Glenn spits out the chunk he bites. "Okay, you taste horrible though..." he admits.
[19:30] <@Henrietta> "We must never speak of this again," Henrietta says darkly, gathering her magic. If ice didn't work, she will try acid instead!
[19:30] <@Ebiris> It does taste like a mix of rotten seaweed and tin, Glenn observes.
[19:30] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20-2
[19:30] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20-2 and gets 13." [1d20=15]
[19:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[19:30] <@Henrietta> roll 1d3
[19:30] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d3 and gets 2." [1d3=2]
[19:31] <@Ebiris> The acid burns through the monster's head, causing it to rear up momentarily before collapsing in a tangled heap, the hyperventilating and copiously bleeding man managing to pull himself free at last with Trucy's help!
[19:31] * @Henrietta nods in satisfaction, crossing her arms over her chest.
[19:32] <@Ebiris> Meanwhile the hold continues to burn and the less dangerous animals continue making a hellacious racket.
[19:32] <@Glenn> "Speak of what now?" Glenn asks innocently as he flicks his hands repeatedly, letting the blood droplets splatter wildly off his claws.
[19:33] <@Henrietta> Having had her moment, just as her father instructed her a proper adventurer must after saving the day, Henrietta goes about and uses her ray of frost carefully to put out the fires without damaging the animals held within the cages to the best of her ability.
[19:33] <@Rudy> Rudy sets about ransacking the captain's room, hoping to locate a certain signet ring within the drawers and desks!
[19:34] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll search?
[19:34] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+2 SEARRRRRCH
[19:34] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+2 SEARRRRRCH and gets 18." [1d20=16]
