Ebiris

[16:33] <@Ebiris> Midafternoon the party convene at the fish and whaling docks on the exterior of the Azure District, facing out to the Southwest of Salerno. The sky is grey and overcast, with a gusty wind blowing over the noticably choppy sea. Fortunately Bass Rock is visible less than half a mile out from the shore, a grey and white outcropping jutting up above the sea, its unfriendly rocky surface seemingly covered in bird leavings and grassy scrub in equal measure.
[16:33] <@Ebiris> Shefton is seen standing by one of the docks, hugging himself against the cold and stamping his feet in an effort to keep himself warm, looking around impatiently as he waits.
[16:36] * @Miranda_Altair strolls up, looking around. "This the place?"
[16:36] <@Rudy> Rudy has his hands tightly in his pockets with his elbows pressed into his side. A majestic scarf is caught in the wind and blows heroically to one side as he approaches!
[16:37] * @Henrietta approaches in a far more subdued manner, elegant poise retained all the same.
[16:37] <@Glenn> "So did you manage to get a boat?" Glenn asks their shifty guide as they approach closer.
[16:39] <@Ebiris> "Got a boat at the end of the dock here," Shefton nods his head up the wooden planks, rubbing his blackened hands together. "Y'all ready to go?"
[16:39] <@Rudy> "Sure am!" replies Rudy. "Is this the kind of boat where we have to remain seated the whole time?"
[16:39] * @Miranda_Altair nods and grins. "Ready as we'll ever be, I think!"
[16:40] * @Glenn also nods.
[16:41] <@Ebiris> "I ain't pullin' you out if you fall off," Shefton grimaces, straightening out and putting a hand behind him and cricking before he starts to head up the dock towards a small rowboat barely big enough to seat six. "You heard about my back, right?"
[16:42] <@Rudy> "We certainly heard it. Myra! Rowing position!"
[16:42] * @Henrietta pretends to believe it, nodding hesitantly.
[16:43] <@Ebiris> Shefton takes his place at the back of the boat, but not before making a truly disgusting hocking noise at the back of his throat and spitting out a mass of grey/green phlegm into the water, where it bobs in the waves next to the rowboat. "Need to go around to the left a' the island for where we can land," he gestures towards the rock in the distance.
[16:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: in the absence of any nautical skills, Myra can roll a constitution check for her rowing
[16:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+1 fff
[16:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+1 fff and gets 2." [1d20=1]
[16:47] <@Ebiris> It's slow going, struggling against the waves, and every foot covered seems to come at cost to Myra who has a great deal of trouble with the oars. Despite the rock only being half a mile away, it takes nearly an hour before your rowboat begins to round its jutting cliffs and near the more gentle slope of a narrow and shingle-covered beach. A good thing too, since Myra's making all manner of desperate wheezing sounds, and her gaunt form has taken a deathly pallor.
[16:47] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra's exhausted until further notice
[16:50] <@Rudy> "Gods, Myra! It wasn't that bad," complains Rudy, disembarking. "Do we have any ale?"
[16:51] <@Henrietta> "Ale helps with... the cause of those sounds?" Henrietta asks uncertainly, following Rudy ashore.
[16:51] <@Rudy> "No, I'm just thirsty," replies Rudy, poking Myra in the spot where her head should be. "She should drink water, get a rubdown, and have a nap."
[16:51] <@Ebiris> "That thing looks like it's about to drop dead," Shefton eyes Myra dubiously, getting out as the boat runs itself aground, his legs swaying a little beneath him as he adjusts to being on land once more. "There's a trail up to the secret entrance up this way," he points up the beach, the interior of the island rising up ahead covered in tall grass and hardy trees and bushes.
[16:51] <@Glenn> "I didn't expect to be drinking on this trip, so no," Glenn answers drily. He turns to look at Rudy's pet. "Is she...it, going to be alright?"
[16:52] <@Rudy> "Even if Myra dies, she comes back," intones Rudy, darkly. "I ran extensive tests."
[16:52] * @Henrietta abruptly turns towards Shefton. "How far ahead is the entrance?"
[16:52] <@Rudy> "Haha, just kidding. Shouldn't we be going? She's useless like this, either way."
[16:52] <@Miranda_Altair> Eyeing Myra briefly, Miranda shrugs and says, "Whatever. Let's get a move on."
[16:54] <@Ebiris> Shefton jumps a little at Henrietta's abrupt turn, taking a moment to compose himself. "Hunner' yards or so?" he shrugs, starting to walk up the rocky beach while seagulls and puffins caw noisily and fly circles overhead.
[16:54] * @Henrietta wards herself with mage armor and proceeds after him, carefully not looking towards Rudy or his pet.
[16:55] * @Rudy leaves Myra to fall over and sleep on the beach, opting to approach without any supernatural aid today!
[16:56] * @Glenn makes a note to help with the rowing back to shore later, as he follows afterthe others.
[16:57] * @Miranda_Altair waves cheerily at Myra as she follows the others.
[16:58] * Joins: CC (~corwin@80.250.150.253)
[16:59] <@Ebiris> It's not a long walk, but the upwards slope may have been enough to finish off Myra anyway. Birds occassionally take off out of the foliage, squawking indignantly at the disturbance and wheeling above the group as the beach is soon left out of sight, a clearing found in a depression deep in the island's interior, its cliffs rising up above the low-lying scrub to lend a claustrophobic feel. "There's a trapdoor around here..." Shefton mutters, wandering around its Southern edge for a bit, dodging around large rounded rocks here and there. "Here's the bugger!" he concludes after a moment, lifting up a heavy metal trap-door with a grunt, its top side covered in grass for camoflage.
[16:59] * Quits: @Henrietta (~corwin@80.250.150.253) (Ping timeout)
[16:59] <@Rudy> "This looks like a pretty nice operation," remarks Rudy, peering down into the trap-door's depths.
[17:01] * Quits: CC (~corwin@80.250.150.253) (Quit: )
[17:01] <@Ebiris> It's a dark five foot wide shaft descending perhaps thirty feet, just enough light to see the bottom. A hook is set into the slick and damp looking wall just below the trapdoor. "You got a rope so you can climb down?" Shefton asks. "I didn't bring shit."
[17:01] * Joins: Henrietta (~corwin@80.250.150.253)
[17:02] <@Rudy> "A rope. We're spelunkers, now?" asks Rudy, frowning. "Who carries around rope, anyway?"
[17:03] <Henrietta> "Ooh! I do!"
[17:03] <@Ebiris> "I done told you earlier," Shefton huffs, backing away from the trapdoor. "Hell, I ain't climbing down anyway, rope or no. You wanna go down without one... well hey, at least someone thought ahead," he nods to Henrietta.
[17:03] <@Glenn> "That answers that question!" Glenn says cheerfully.
[17:03] <@Rudy> "What- you do? Suburb."
[17:03] <@Rudy> *Supurb
[17:04] * Henrietta goes about the task of cheerfully tying her high-quality rope to the hook.
[17:06] <@Ebiris> Henrietta's knot seems secure enough, and the hook feels solid in its place, enough to take a good deal of weight she thinks. "You gotta go down there and follow the tunnels afore you come to the hideout," Shefton explains, sitting on one of the rocks near the shaft. "I'll keep lookout up here or some shit."
[17:06] <@Glenn> "You're not coming with us?" Glenn asks with a raised eyebrow.
[17:07] <Henrietta> "Please keep your bonus in mind as you do," Henrietta says, the first to try and climb down.
[17:07] <@Miranda_Altair> "He already said that." Miranda says, peering oddly at Glenn.
[17:07] <@Ebiris> "Hell no," Shefton scowls and spits. "Think Mr V's gonna want to see me leading you guys in? Damn, probably fall and break my neck climbing down anyway."
[17:07] <@Ebiris> OOC: climb check, Henrietta
[17:08] <@Rudy> "Look at that inspiring confidence! Already I feel my fears dropping away."
[17:10] * Quits: Henrietta (~corwin@80.250.150.253) (Quit: )
[17:10] * Joins: Henrietta (~corwin@80.250.150.253)
[17:12] <Henrietta> OOC: Taking 10 on the climb
[17:13] <Henrietta> OOC: Should bring me to 13
[17:13] <@Ebiris> Henrietta starts to descend, finding that the rocky surface of the shaft is slippery and mossy despite its roughness hinting at easy handholds. Fortunately the rope takes up the slack enough that she has little trouble reaching the bottom, seeing a path ahead curving off to the right after just a few feet, shadowed and hard to see with the light only dimly shining down from above.
[17:14] * Henrietta tugs on a rope a few times to show that she made it down safely, before stepping a few feet onto the path ahead, just in case anyone were to slip and fall.
[17:14] <@Glenn> "As I'll probably end up falling on my head, or some such, I should probably go last, after the rest of you have all reached the bottom," Glenn notes, inviting Rudy and Miranda to go next.
[17:14] <@Rudy> Rudy is the next to attempt to descend without ignonimously breaking his neck.
[17:15] <@Rudy> OOC: I'll also take 10
[17:15] <@Rudy> OOC: for 10!
[17:15] <@Ebiris> Rudy finds it a nerve-wracking experience, but the rope holds steady and lets him descend safely with the wall to brace on now and then, joining Henrietta deep below the island's surface.
[17:16] * @Miranda_Altair heads down next!
[17:16] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Taking 10 for a total of 10
[17:16] <@Ebiris> Miranda scampers down after Rudy, leaving just Glenn and Shefton up to enjoy each other's company on the surface!
[17:17] <@Rudy> "Gods, I was terrified. Good rope, though. You can trust a rope like that."
[17:17] <Henrietta> "Do we use a torch?" Henrietta asks, pulling one out of her pack but not lighting it just yet.
[17:18] <@Miranda_Altair> "I have a lamp!" Miranda pulls out an oil lamp.
[17:18] * Henrietta smiles at Rudy's words. "Father said to always get the proper kind of rope!"
[17:18] <@Rudy> "I would say so, I'd rather not fall down some hole and die."
[17:18] <@Glenn> "Here goes nothing," Glenn mutters as he follows. OOC: I too shall take 10, in honor of my comrades! For 11!
[17:18] <@Rudy> "Did he? A wise man. Convey my regards when you see him next?"
[17:19] <Henrietta> "That might be a while, but certainly!"
[17:19] <@Ebiris> The rope holds securely for Glenn's descent, the group now crowded together at the bottom of the shaft, a narrow passage ahead leading into darkness and mystery!
[17:19] * @Miranda_Altair lights her lamp.
[17:20] * Henrietta puts the torch away, proceeding down the path!
[17:21] <@Ebiris> With Miranda's light source you can see far better, the passage ahead turning sharply to the right after half a dozen feet, and then having an abrupt turn to the left just after. It continues on for another thirty feet before reaching a rotting wooden door on the right-hand side at its far end, the ground before it and its frame both looking rather scuffed and battered.
[17:22] <Henrietta> Unlikely though it is, Henrietta checks the door and the surrounding area for magic.
[17:23] <@Ebiris> Henrietta can't discern any magic in the immediate area.
[17:23] <@Rudy> "Do we knock, or just go in?"
[17:24] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll perception everyone
[17:24] <@Rudy> roll 1d20
[17:24] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20 and gets 17." [1d20=17]
[17:25] <Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[17:25] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 4." [1d20=2]
[17:25] <@Glenn> roll d20+6
[17:25] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 and gets 25." [d20=19]
[17:25] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20+2
[17:25] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20+2 and gets 11." [1d20=9]
[17:26] <@Ebiris> While Henrietta is absorbed in searching for magic, everyone else can hear a shrill gurgling scream of pain and surprise coming from behind them, echoing down the shaft!
[17:27] <@Miranda_Altair> Miranda stares mutely off down the shaft.
[17:27] <Henrietta> In case it is an ambush, Henrietta opens the door ahead of them to find a better spot to face their enemies!
[17:27] <@Ebiris> OOC: strength check, Henrietta
[17:27] <Henrietta> roll 1d20+3
[17:27] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 and gets 5." [1d20=2]
[17:28] <@Ebiris> Henrietta finds the door stuck fast, its timbers seemingly swollen by the dank air to fill the doorframe! It barely budges to her opening attempt!
[17:28] <@Glenn> "...Okay, was that our guide, Myra, or something else?" Glenn asks worriedly, even as he decides he doesn't really care for what the answer might be, and pulls out his trusty (yet likely addictive) flask of twice-tested mutagenic potion and chugs it down.
[17:29] * Henrietta erodes the stuck edges with acid and tries again!
[17:29] <@Ebiris> A loud thump is then heard at the base of the shaft, unseen by the group at the end of the twisting passage leading away from it.
[17:29] <@Rudy> "Myra doesn't make noises like that," replies Rudy. "I daresay we won't need to keep some coins for bonus pay. Look alive, eh?" He seems notably shaken, though, as he procures his crossbow. "Best not to go down that way."
[17:29] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll your acid damage?
[17:29] <Henrietta> roll 1d3
[17:29] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d3 and gets 1." [1d3=1]
[17:29] <@Ebiris> Henrietta's cantrip sends acid steaming at the doorframe, putrid smoke sizzling from the aged wood!
[17:30] <Henrietta> roll 1d20+3 open, door!
[17:30] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 open, door! and gets 21." [1d20=18]
[17:31] <@Ebiris> OOC: anyone doing anything else or just buffing/standing by the door while Henrietta works on it?
[17:31] <@Rudy> Rudy quickly invokes a spell of protection on himself, while he's at it!
[17:31] <@Rudy> OOC: Casting shield? Uh, not really...
[17:32] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: She's slinging acid, I'll let her do whatever she wants.
[17:32] <@Glenn> As Henrietta breaks the door down, Glenn keeps an eye out behind them, in case someone follows. If so, they shall face firey pain!
[17:33] * Kozzz is now known as Kotono
[17:33] * Kotono is now known as Ko-FOOTBALL
[17:34] <@Ebiris> Henrietta puts her back into it, and shoulders open the now weakened door! It tears right out of its hinges, rotting wood tumbling down onto the hallway beyond! It seems to emerge into a hall running parallel to the passage you just came from, but wide enough to walk two abreast down. A set of double doors lies ten feet to the left, while another set is seen thirty feet to the right, in both cases hanging partially ajar, rotten aged wood flaking apart and barely holding on to rusted hinges.
[17:34] * Henrietta emerges into the hallway, heading towards the door to the left.
[17:36] <@Ebiris> A loud clang is heard from behind the group as Henrietta advances towards the newfound doors, although it rapidly grows dark away from Miranda's lantern, making it hard to see what lies beyond.
[17:37] * Henrietta waves the others over, ready to breach this set of doors once they move closer.
[17:37] <@Rudy> "I do hope whoever built this place had the sense to include more than one exit," mutters Rudy, advancing on the doors.
[17:37] * @Miranda_Altair whirls and peers into the darkness. "What was that!"
[17:37] <@Ebiris> The twisting of the passage prevents Miranda from seeing back to the entry shaft in her current position, even with the benefit of her lantern.
[17:38] <@Rudy> "That was the trap door. We're locked in, now! God, if I find out who did that- well, I'll.. I'll be very.."
[17:38] <Henrietta> "It's the secret exit, so of course there is another one," Henrietta tells Rudy quietly, forcing these door open now.
[17:39] <@Ebiris> Already ajar, the doors open easily to Henrietta, although she can't really see much at all into the room that lies beyond, it being far too dark. She can hear water sloshing to her left, though...
[17:39] <@Rudy> "Bring up the lamp, eh? Let's have a looksie."
[17:40] * @Miranda_Altair raises her lamp and steps forward warily.
[17:43] <@Ebiris> With Miranda catching up, the group can see into Henrietta's room. It's dominated by four great wooden pillars rising up to support the ceiling, which sags dangerously in places, and lies thick with strands of hanging fungus. Several doors are seen, one dead ahead, two to the right - the furthest of which is hanging badly askew on damaged hinges, and one on the same side as the door you came in by, to the right. To the left the ceiling has already collapsed, leaving half the chamber choked with debris that lies in a rippling pool of water. A man's body floats face down in this pool, bobbing amidst the debris.
[17:44] <@Rudy> "I'm not sure I even want to go into this room. If any of those pillars give way, the whole place will collapse," notes Rudy, edgily.
[17:44] * Henrietta recoils despite any efforts to maintain her composure!
[17:44] <@Rudy> "And oh god! There's a man!"
[17:44] <@Glenn> "It certainlydoesn't look like fate was kind to that man..." Glenn says.
[17:45] * @Glenn pauses and adds. "I know it doesn't look safe, but we might want to check that the body isn't lady Vanderboren's brother," he adds.
[17:45] <@Glenn> occ: redundant repetition of adding is blah!
[17:46] <Henrietta> Hesitantly, Henrietta clenches her teeth and then steps into the room, carefully moving towards the man. First, she must see if he is already beyond help!
[17:46] <@Ebiris> OOC: perception check, H-chan
[17:46] <Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[17:46] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 15." [1d20=13]
[17:47] * Quits: Henrietta (~corwin@80.250.150.253) (Quit: )
[17:53] * Aaeru is now known as Henrietta
[17:53] <@Ebiris> As she approaches, Henrietta can spot a handful of large dark brown crabs beneath the surface of the water, raising up their claws threateningly as she draws towards the water's edge... big claws, too.
[17:54] * @Henrietta tries to burn the claws with acid! Perhaps the crabs will retreat without the need for a pointless battle if burned thus!
[17:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: make an attack roll?
[17:56] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[17:56] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 10." [1d20=8]
[17:58] <@Ebiris> A glob of green acid flies out from Henrietta's fingertips and splashes into the sloshing water where it almost immediately dissolves! She can notice the crabs starting to edge away from the area that the acid hit, but they aren't retreating - two have actually moved closer to the water's edge, now.
[18:00] * @Henrietta is tempted to abandon the whole venture, but then she remembers her father's words. She can't just leave someone face down in water! What if that were she? Wouldn't she very much want to be helped by passing strangers? Her path made all the more certain now, Henrietta draws her trusty flail and tries to smash the closest crab into a fine paste!
[18:00] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll initiative
[18:00] <@Ebiris> roll 5#1d20 crabs
[18:00] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 5#1d20 crabs and gets 50." [5#1d20 = 1, 4, 15, 17, 13]
[18:00] <@Rudy> "What are you doing- oh, I see," mumbles Rudy, peering in the door after Henrietta.
[18:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 i played this on newgrounds
[18:01] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[18:01] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 17." [1d20=15]
[18:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 i played this on newgrounds and gets 16." [1d20=12]
[18:01] <@Glenn> "What is she fighting? Something in the water?" Glenn asks, even as he gets ready to fight too.
[18:01] <@Glenn> roll d20+4
[18:01] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+4 and gets 17." [d20=13]
[18:01] <@Glenn> ooc: +6 actually, so 19
[18:03] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20+2
[18:03] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20+2 and gets 6." [1d20=4]
[18:03] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Glenn > Henrietta > Crab1 > Rudy > Crab2 > Crab3 > Miranda > Crab4 > Crab5'
[18:03] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Glenn
[18:04] <@Glenn> ooc: how big was the doorway again? I would assume I was behind Rudy/Miranda since I said I was watching the back, so not sure if I can go into the room, or if I should just lob a bomb.
[18:05] <@Ebiris> OOC: Doorway was eight feet wide, so two can go through it abreast
[18:06] * @Glenn moves through the door and past Rudy and Miranda, moving closer to Henrietta until he can see what exactly they're fighting.
[18:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: roll perception?
[18:06] <@Glenn> roll d20+6
[18:06] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 and gets 15." [d20=9]
[18:07] <@Glenn> ooc: result is 14. I keep forgetting mutagen is -wis.
[18:07] <@Ebiris> Glenn can see five crabs in the water at the Southern edge of the room, spread out in something of a pentagon. They're big, too, at least two feet wide on their shells, with big claws raised up threateningly.
[18:10] * @Glenn looks at the crabs warily and waits to see if they're going to attack or not.
[18:10] <@Ebiris> OOC: Okay, Henrietta
[18:11] * @Henrietta will try to smash the leading crab with her father's flail and see if the others leave peacefully afterwards.
[18:11] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+4
[18:11] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+4 and gets 24." [1d20=20]
[18:11] <@Ebiris> OOC: crit check
[18:11] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+4 hm?
[18:11] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+4 hm? and gets 18." [1d20=14]
[18:11] <@Ebiris> OOC: confirmed
[18:11] <@Henrietta> roll 2d10+8
[18:11] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 2d10+8 and gets 18." [2d10=8, 2]
[18:12] <@Ebiris> Henrietta has to wade into the freezing cold water, and finds it has enough resistance to greatly slow down her swing, but nonetheless she gets a good hit in which crunches right through the shell of the first crab, obliterating it entirely!
[18:12] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[18:12] * Retrieving #dunes modes...
[18:13] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Glenn > Henrietta > Rudy > Crab2 > Crab3 > Miranda > Crab4 > Crab5'
[18:14] <@Rudy> "Urgh- ugh- ah," stammers Rudy, raising his crossbow for a moment, before a wave of black sludge leaps forth from his body and takes the form of a snarling hound! It lurches towards one of the other crabs and attempts to take a bite out of it!
[18:14] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3 SM is a standard action when I use it like this
[18:14] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3 SM is a standard action when I use it like this and gets 13." [1d20=10]
[18:15] <@Rudy> OOC: *+4, sorry, for charging
[18:15] <@Rudy> OOC: his actual attack is +2
[18:15] <@Ebiris> OOC: that turns a miss into a hit
[18:15] <@Rudy> roll 1d4+1 chomp
[18:15] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d4+1 chomp and gets 3." [1d4=2]
[18:16] <@Ebiris> The dog splashes into the water alongside Henrietta, biting down for a piece of crab meat with its teeth encountering far less resistance the big heavy flail! The shell cracks but barely holds, while the wounded crab proceeds to try and pinch the dog's nose and snout in retaliation! Meanwhile the remaining leading crab skitters up to Henrietta, trying to take a pinch out of her leg!
[18:16] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1 vs dog
[18:16] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 vs dog and gets 27." [2#1d20+1 = 8, 19]
[18:16] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1 vs Henrietta
[18:16] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 vs Henrietta and gets 16." [2#1d20+1 = 4, 12]
[18:16] <@Ebiris> OOC: Dog AC?
[18:17] <@Rudy> OOC: 11
[18:17] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4
[18:17] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[18:18] <@Ebiris> Henrietta manages to kick the crab away before it can harm her, but Rudy's summoned hound whimpers as its tender nose is pinched hard enough to draw blood that stains the dark water!
[18:18] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda
[18:19] * @Miranda_Altair wades forward and swings with her quarterstaff!
[18:19] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20
[18:19] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20 and gets 15." [1d20=15]
[18:20] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit, please tell me what you're actually attacking, though.
[18:20] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: -_-; Nearest unengaged crab.
[18:21] <@Ebiris> OOC: you'll provoke an AoO from one of the crabs that are fighting to get past them
[18:21] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: Hopefully I live through it. ^^
[18:21] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+1
[18:21] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 and gets 14." [1d20=13]

[18:22] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d6
[18:22] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d6 and gets 2." [1d6=2]
[18:25] <@Ebiris> The crab embroiled with Rudy's dog manages to cut through the tender flesh of Miranda's ankle as she passes, her blood joining the hound's in staining the murky water, her wound stinging painfully from the salt! But her quarterstaff crunches down to dent one of the furthest back crabs, which promptly retaliates, its partner joining it to gang up on Miranda in the deep end!
[18:25] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1
[18:25] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 and gets 35." [2#1d20+1 = 15, 20]

[18:25] <@Ebiris> roll 3d4
[18:25] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 3d4 and gets 6." [3d4=1, 4, 1]
[18:26] <@Ebiris> Miranda finds herself swarmed! The two crabs pinch her painfully in the legs, crawling up her body to get better at her vitals, a claw tearing through the flesh of her hip is the last wound she takes before collapsing from the pain and stress of her wounds, going face down in the water with crabs all over!
[18:26] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[18:28] <@Glenn> "Miranda!" Glenn exclaims as he sees the crazy girl fall. He rushes past the first group of crabs, and heads directly to attack one of the crabs that attacked his companion! OOC: I'll take AoOs from closer crabs to get to Miranda. AC 20
[18:28] * @Henrietta almost drops her flail as her arms go slack with shock!
[18:28] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+1 H-chan's foe will take the AoO
[18:29] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 H-chan's foe will take the AoO and gets 3." [1d20=2]
[18:29] <@Ebiris> Glenn forces his way past, ignoring all in his way!
[18:29] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 bite on one of the crabs.
[18:29] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go with the attack
[18:29] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 bite on one of the crabs. and gets 13." [d20=7]
[18:30] <@Ebiris> Diving headfirst into the water, Glenn finds he can't quite wrap his teeth around the flailing crabs hanging onto Miranda's floating form, only managing to inhale a mouthful of bloody saltwater!
[18:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[18:32] <@Henrietta> Rather than rushing into the midst of horrifically large crabs, Henrietta circles the one currently beset by Rudy's... familiar? Pet? Not dwelling on the matter overmuch, Henrietta attempts to smash yet another crab to pieces. Surely, once enough of them die the rest would flee!
[18:32] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+6
[18:32] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+6 and gets 21." [1d20=15]
[18:32] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[18:32] <@Henrietta> roll 1d10+4
[18:32] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d10+4 and gets 9." [1d10=5]
[18:33] <@Ebiris> The water resists Henrietta's flail, slowing its progress, but the crab's shell is already weakened from being bitten and she manages to do enough damage for the creature to go limp and float lifelessly away from the melee!
[18:33] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Glenn > Henrietta > Rudy > Crab3 > Miranda > Crab4 > Crab5'
[18:33] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Rudy
[18:35] <@Rudy> "Uggh.." mumbles Rudy, blinking. "Uh.. what the hell just..." Shaking off the daze, his eyes widen with alarm at Miranda's plight, and he fires a bolt into one of the remaining crab-like enemies of women!
[18:35] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 fire!
[18:35] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 fire! and gets 9." [1d20=4]
[18:36] <@Rudy> The dog is not one to be left out, and swims into the water to take another bite out of the primordial creatures!
[18:36] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+2 chomp?
[18:36] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+2 chomp? and gets 10." [1d20=8]
[18:37] <@Ebiris> The bolt is arrested by the water, floating rather than penetrating to pierce crab exoskeleten! Meanwhile the dog bounces energetically around in the water without managing to find anything to bite on.
[18:38] <@Ebiris> The crab that Henrietta ignored to finish off the dog's dinner continues after her to press the attack, intent on having a pound of plant-like flesh to devour!
[18:38] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1
[18:38] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 and gets 19." [2#1d20+1 = 3, 16]

[18:39] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 and gets 2." [1d4=2]
[18:39] <@Ebiris> Henrietta finds herself suffering a painful nip on her calf, the wound instantly stinging painfully from being immersed in cold salty water!
[18:40] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda, make a constitution check with a -2 penalty
[18:40] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20-1
[18:40] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20-1 and gets 4." [1d20=5]
[18:41] <@Ebiris> Miranda continues to bleed out into the water, everything going dark around her as one crab continues to tear fleshy chunks of skin off her frame while its partner in crime turns to attack Glenn for interfering!
[18:41] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1 Glenn
[18:41] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 Glenn and gets 19." [2#1d20+1 = 8, 11]
[18:42] <@Glenn> ooc: miss/miss
[18:42] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1 without armour her AC will be 5 while unconscious
[18:42] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 without armour her AC will be 5 while unconscious and gets 20." [2#1d20+1 = 17, 3]
[18:42] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4
[18:42] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 and gets 2." [1d4=2]
[18:43] <@Ebiris> The water around Miranda grows more and more crimson as the battle goes on, the witch becoming food for the crabs!
[18:43] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[18:44] <@Glenn> Glenn angrily tears into the crab still attacking poor Miranda, a flurry of teeth and claws!
[18:44] <@Glenn> roll 3#d20+6 (claw/claw/bite)
[18:44] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 3#d20+6 (claw/claw/bite) and gets 62." [3#d20+6 = 23, 25, 14]
[18:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: all hit
[18:45] <@Glenn> roll 2d6+d8+3
[18:45] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 2d6+d8+3 and gets 17." [2d6=4, 4][d8=6]
[18:45] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Glenn > Henrietta > Rudy > Crab3 > Miranda > Crab5'
[18:46] <@Ebiris> Glen savagely rends the crab apart into fishsticks, devouring a heady mixture of water, witchblood, raw crabmeat, and shell! It crunches on the way down, but that's one crab that won't be eating a defenceless 'maiden' ever again!
[18:46] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[18:46] * @Henrietta whirls towards the crab that crept up on her flank, trying to take its head off with a powerful backswing!
[18:46] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+4
[18:46] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+4 and gets 6." [1d20=2]
[18:46] <@Ebiris> The move is too energetic, causing Henrietta's flail to skip off the water rather than descend to bludgeon the crustacean beneath!
[18:46] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[18:47] <@Rudy> Rudy opts to simply shoulder forward and retrieve Miranda's bleeding body, handling it with as much grace as a man hoisting a corpse from a sewer can muster.
[18:48] <@Rudy> The dog bravely makes a fool of itself to attract enemy crab attention in the meantime!
[18:48] <@Rudy> OOC: I guess it bites one and then runs in a circle, provoking AoOs?
[18:48] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+2
[18:48] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+2 and gets 7." [1d20=5]
[18:48] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+1
[18:48] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 and gets 18." [1d20=17]
[18:48] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4
[18:48] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 and gets 4." [1d4=4]
[18:49] <@Ebiris> With Henrietta and Glenn in the way, along with the dog's capering, Rudy can at least forge a clear path to get to the body without suffering any injury himself, and she floats readily enough to make hauling her less of a challenge. Good thing too, because his faithful canine disintegrates into yet more filthy sludge while dueling with Glenn's playmate!
[18:49] <@Ebiris> Meanwhile Henrietta continues to find herself pressed by the relentless shellfish!
[18:50] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1
[18:50] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 and gets 27." [2#1d20+1 = 12, 15]
[18:50] <@Henrietta> OOC: Still 16
[18:50] <@Ebiris> But to no avail, its claws glancing off her arcane defences fruitlessly!
[18:50] <@Ebiris> OOC: Constitution check, Miranda, -5 penalty
[18:51] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20-4
[18:51] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20-4 and gets 13." [1d20=17]
[18:52] <@Ebiris> As Rudy hauls her out of the water, Miranda coughs out a lungful of seawater, shivering in a pained manner with her eyes glazed and unseeing, but her breath seems to come more easily now...
[18:52] <@Ebiris> With Miranda now stolen away, the crab in the deepest water seems determined to take out its fury on Glenn instead!
[18:52] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+1
[18:52] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+1 and gets 24." [2#1d20+1 = 5, 19]
[18:52] <@Ebiris> OOC: AC 20?
[18:52] <@Glenn> ooc: miss/miss~
[18:52] <@Glenn> ooc: yep
[18:53] <@Ebiris> But Glenn is a far tougher nut to crack than the delicate witch from afar, batting away its claws with contemptuous ease!
[18:53] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[18:54] * @Glenn gives a very brief nod of thanks to Rudy as he grabs Miranda's body, before proceeding to unleash some wrath on the remaining crab!
[18:54] <@Glenn> roll 3#d20+6
[18:54] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 3#d20+6 and gets 41." [3#d20+6 = 12, 13, 16]
[18:54] <@Ebiris> OOC: last hits
[18:54] <@Glenn> ooc: well fooey
[18:54] <@Glenn> roll d8+1
[18:54] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d8+1 and gets 6." [d8=5]
[18:55] <@Ebiris> Raking his claws down the crab's shell, Glenn manages to sever off most of its legs and its claw on that side, the crustacean reduced to insensate twitching!
[18:55] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Glenn > Henrietta > Rudy > Crab3 > Miranda'
[18:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[18:56] <@Henrietta> Seeing that only the crab facing her remains, Henrietta opts to adopt a more conservative stance, holding her own until Glenn arrives to assist her, and only trying a subdued strike of her flail.
[18:56] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20 fighting defensively
[18:56] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20 fighting defensively and gets 8." [1d20=8]
[18:56] <@Ebiris> The flail swishes sluggishly through the water, not threatening the last holdout at all!
[18:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[18:57] <@Henrietta> "I don't understand," Henrietta mutters, staring balefully at the crab. "Why won't you run? Flee, crustacean. Flee!" She gestures with her free arm.
[18:57] <@Ebiris> The crab's beady eyes look back up at Henrietta without comprehension, its claws raised high towards her.
[18:58] <@Rudy> "They be demon crabs, Henri! Vicious monsters from the underworld! Yes, I know!" blurts out Rudy, setting Miranda to one side and firing another bolt at the remaining creature!
[18:58] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5
[18:58] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 and gets 25." [1d20=20]
[18:58] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 !!
[18:58] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 !! and gets 16." [1d20=11]
[18:58] <@Rudy> roll 2d8+2
[18:58] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 2d8+2 and gets 12." [2d8=7, 3]
[18:58] <@Ebiris> OOC: normal hit
[18:58] <@Rudy> roll 1d8+1 :(
[18:58] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d8+1 :( and gets 7." [1d8=6]
[18:59] <@Ebiris> OOC: 8 damage, we'll use the first d8
[18:59] <@Rudy> OOC: 'k
[18:59] <@Ebiris> Rudy's last bolt whizzes through the air, piercing the water like the divine thunderbolt of Zeus himself to smite the crab in a single perfect strike! It immediately stills, impaled onto the rocky underwater surface!
[18:59] <@Ebiris> OOC: fight over
[19:00] * @Henrietta breathes a sigh of relief. Then, she remembers just where she is, and throws a glance towards Miranda. "Rudy, Glenn, is she alright?" Henrietta asks, herself proceeding towards the man she intended to check upon originally.
[19:01] * @Glenn frowns, and though a bit worried about Miranda, there's not much that can be done for her right now, and Rudy has her, so the alchemist heads towards the body that started this mess, grabbing the body and slowly dragging it back to the others.
[19:01] <@Rudy> "I don't know, I'm not a doctor!"
[19:01] <@Rudy> "She looks pretty... bleedy? Maybe half-drowned?"
[19:01] <@Glenn> "I don't know, she looked to be pretty bad off, and one of the crabs kept attacking her after she collapsed..." Glenn replies as he drags the body towards them.
[19:03] <@Ebiris> Henrietta finds the body swollen and covered in cuts and nasty coloured bruises all over. He's wearing some sort of leather armour but it seems thoroughly ruined, and there also seems to be a tattoo of a dragon on his left arm, its discoloured and deformed now but bears a strong resemblance to the painting in Brissa's studio. The last thing of note Henrietta can find is a silver dagger laying on the rocks directly below the floating cadaver.
[19:03] <@Glenn> Glenn tries to look over Miranda's wounds, checking to see if there's anything he can do for her...
[19:03] <@Glenn> roll d20+5 heal check?
[19:03] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+5 heal check? and gets 6." [d20=1]
[19:04] <@Glenn> ooc: ...ouch?
[19:04] * @Henrietta picks up the dagger, which might be an important clue! And once she is done with that, she returns to Miranda's body to see if there is anything she could help with.
[19:05] <@Ebiris> Glenn can't really tell how bad off Miranda is. The cold water might have helped stem bloodloss, but she's dreadfully pale regardless.
[19:06] <@Ebiris> The dagger seems well crafted, metal light and flexible despite silver being hard to work with.
[19:06] <@Glenn> "Can someone bring some light closer to Miranda's body as I look over it?" Glenn asks, waiting for someone to bring some light closer before taking a more careful look over her wounds.
[19:07] <@Glenn> ooc: taking 10 for 15 on next heal attempt if I can.
[19:07] <@Ebiris> Miranda dropped her lantern at the edge of the room when she started flailing around with her quarterstaff.
[19:08] <@Ebiris> Glenn can tell that she's suffering from numerous lacerations consistent with crab claw wounds! The paleness of her skin is indicitive of severe blood loss, but nonetheless her breathing and pulse are strong. The prognosis is good, assuming she eats plenty of rich foods and gets a few days of bedrest in a warm place.
[19:11] <@Glenn> "She should be fine, I think. She's just going to need a -lot- of bed rest. A potion would help speed things up, though it'll take a day or two for me to make one that she can use, assuming we don't just buy one."
[19:11] <@Henrietta> "Oh, I'll just go barter with the crabs, then," Henrietta mutters, rolling her eyes.
