Ebiris

[15:39] <@Ebiris> With Fort Freywick behind you on the high peninsula where the dragons lair, the party advances through pasture provided for the sustenance of said dragons, a series of fields radiating out for over a mile in a rough semi-circle from where the peninsula juts out to sea. Most of the fields are filled with fat cattle, although one is filled with bailed up hay, on the far Western edge.
[15:39] <@Ebiris> Paths line the fences between fields, and neither the livestock nor their few herdsmen give the party any trouble as the forest proper draws nearer to the North. It's primarily temperate woodland, yellowing and red leaves festooning the trees, the trunks spread quite far apart and the undergrowth well flattened to allow for seemingly easy travel through at least this part of the forest.
[15:39] <@Rudy> "D'ya think I should send Myra away?" wonders Rudy, patting the monstrosity on the back. "Animals are smarter than people, so I'm not sure they'll go anywhere near her."
[15:40] <@Miranda_Altair> "Wow!" Miranda gasps, "This is much nicer than I thought it would be! I expected some dense forest with spotty clearings."
[15:40] <@Henrietta> "I'm fine with hunting down a dumb animal," Henrietta responds with a shrug. "If one attacks us with Myra around, we can definitely bring it back to get stuffed."
[15:43] <@Rudy> "Yes, she could handle a deer or two," agrees Rudy, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Well tended, I would say."
[15:45] <@Ebiris> Into the forest the party goes. Past the first few rows of trees, they can see a different character starting to emerge, most of the trees growing slanted and some even knocked over entirely - predominantly it's larger ones for the latter and smaller ones for the former. Mud and fallen leaves squelch underfoot as the group picks their way over tree-roots and deadwood, the forest seeming to stretch forever in all directions except behind them...
[15:48] <@Henrietta> "Let's try heading north for an hour or two, see if we come across any tracks? Or animals?"
[15:48] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+6
[15:48] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+6 and gets 14." [1d20=8]
[15:48] <@Rudy> "Alright! As long as we don't get lost in the forest or anything..."
[15:48] <@Glenn> "Works as well as any other direction," Glenn says, not having any issues.
[15:49] -> *Henrietta* Your knowledge of nature tells you that most wild animals will shy away from a group of loud humans marching through the woods. They tend to be good at perception and stealth, after all. Any that do appear before you will be ones that either humans don't normally hunt, or plans on hunting you.
[15:50] <@Henrietta> "I don't think that's our problem," Henrietta responds. "Being prepared to be hunted, that's our true problem. But that's also the best way to bring back a great trophy, so I like that thought."
[15:51] <@Rudy> "Did you consider what we would be hunted by?"
[15:51] <@Glenn> "Well, as long as one of the dragons doesn't decide we're a meal, we should be able to handle anything in this forest, I would hope..." Glenn says.
[15:53] <@Henrietta> "Bears," Henrietta mumbles, looking away. "Really large ones." She perks up immediately after. "Boars or wolves, too, if we get lucky!"
[15:54] <@Miranda_Altair> "Something that looks fierce!" Miranda cheers!
[15:54] <@Miranda_Altair> "But no crabs."
[15:54] <@Ebiris> roll 1d100
[15:54] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 98." [1d100=98]
[15:54] <@Henrietta> "There could be giant spiders. But no crabs."
[15:54] <@Ebiris> roll 1d100
[15:54] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 94." [1d100=94]
[15:54] <@Ebiris> OOC: if you're just marching in a straight line till you see either an animal or a tracks, go ahead and roll perception peoples.
[15:54] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+12 myramyra
[15:54] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+12 myramyra and gets 26." [1d20=14]
[15:55] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[15:55] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 6." [1d20=4]
[15:55] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20+2
[15:55] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20+2 and gets 6." [1d20=4]
[15:59] <@Ebiris> It's not particularly fast going as you pick your way through the forest. It's perhaps half an hour on when traversing a curved downwards slope where the trees start thinning out that the party comes across a truly enormous bear... except it's quite dead, its coat mangy and threadbare, large punctures visible all over its flesh, and its skin shrivelled and shrunken, giving it an almost skeletal aspect. It lies braced against a flattened tree, slumped over in final defeat.
[15:59] -> *Rudy* Myra can notice fine strands of spiderweb floating amidst both the corpse and many of the surrounding trees, getting thicker as the slope goes down. They're not an impediment to movement yet, though, mostly hanging loose.
[16:00] <@Rudy> Myra extends a mouth on a twisted appendage, and whispers a few words into Rudy's ear. He pauses, and glances around rather dubiously. "Well. How do spiders sound?" he asks, eyeing the bare some some trepidation. "What do we think of them?"
[16:00] <@Glenn> "Creepy little critters to be squashed, why?"
[16:00] <@Henrietta> "We can use them, I think, but we don't really like them either," Henrietta responds, tearing her eyes away from the bear's corpse.
[16:02] <@Rudy> "Would you hang a stuffed spider on your wall, eh?"
[16:02] * @Henrietta shrugs. "Maybe a stuffed cushion?"
[16:02] <@Miranda_Altair> "I wouldn't."
[16:03] <@Glenn> "I certainly wouldn't, either," Glenn agrees with Miranda.
[16:05] <@Henrietta> "Well, would you hang a stuffed bear on your wall, then?"
[16:06] <@Glenn> "In comparison to a spider? Sure. I'm not really the type to stuff an animal on my wall though. If I did, I'd probably want something that's not a predator, so I don't jump in shock if I'm walking around half-asleep and stumble onto the stuffed animal..." Glenn comments, imagining the situation.
[16:06] <@Miranda_Altair> "I'd put it on a big board and have it look all fierce and stuff!"
[16:07] <@Miranda_Altair> "MAybe have it menace a fish!"
[16:07] <@Rudy> "Well, I'm not a fan of dead animals on the whole, but I think a bear is a bit more stately, perhaps?"
[16:07] * @Henrietta peers at Miranda skeptically. "Pardon me, but shouldn't you have a home to place it at, first?"
[16:08] <@Miranda_Altair> "I thought we were already speculating that I had a home." Miranda looks back, confused.
[16:09] * @Henrietta nods in understanding. "So it an imaginary bear for an imaginary home?"
[16:10] <@Miranda_Altair> "Yes, really. Someday I might have nice things. Maybe." Miranda smiles.
[16:11] <@Henrietta> "I'm glad we sorted this out!" Henrietta says brightly, returning the smile. "So, let's look on? There have to be more bears here now that we've seen one."
[16:11] <@Rudy> "Doesn't the presence of something meaner than a bear worry you?"
[16:11] <@Miranda_Altair> "Bears aren't mean." Miranda protests. "They're sweet and cuddly!"
[16:12] * @Henrietta pauses, tilting her head as she considers it. "Only if I didn't think we could take down a bear between us all. Since we're hunting them, and something else is hunting them... before I get us all confused, let me go with no. Short of a dragon I don't think we have any cause for worry while hunting in these woods."
[16:13] <@Rudy> "I'll ensure Myra is the slowest of us all, if we need to run."
[16:14] <@Henrietta> "That would sound disturbing if you did not tell us before that she cannot die on a permanent basis."
[16:14] <@Rudy> "I tried very hard, believe me!"
[16:14] <@Henrietta> "I will pretend I did not hear that."
[16:17] <@Rudy> "I really do need to ask someone knowledgable about her. That's why I came this way to start with, actually, but then I ran out of money..."
[16:18] <@Ebiris> Leaving the bear to its repose, the party continues picking its way down the slope, which curves almost like a bowl cut out of the earth. Greying trees rise up on skeletal root systems, the earth that supported them having eroded away, while still more lie horizontal having lost this particular battle. Silvery spiderthreads become more visible hanging off debris and tangled amidst the loose soil, more dessicated animals seen as you go. A skeletal deer lies a few dozen feet to your right, and a large badger is barely visible, partially enmeshed in greying spiderweb ahead of you. Ahead and below you can see the bottom of the concave, spiderweb almost everpresent there, coating the ground.
[16:18] <@Rudy> "I suppose the owner of this neck of the woods will make an appearance sooner or later?"
[16:20] * @Henrietta finds it a good time to cast Mage Armor.
[16:20] * @Miranda_Altair copies Henrietta's wisdom.
[16:22] <@Glenn> Seeing the two girls cast defensive spells, Glenn decides to take a similar course of action, downing his mutagenic elixir.
[16:22] <@Rudy> "You know, it was just speculation."
[16:23] <@Henrietta> "My spell had nothing to do with it, actually," Henrietta comments, gesturing about herself. "And a lot more to do with all the skeletons wrapped up in web."
[16:24] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra needs to make either an acrobatics or climb check, whichever's better
[16:24] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3 fft
[16:24] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3 fft and gets 20." [1d20=17]
[16:26] <@Ebiris> The soil slips under Myra's feet about forty feet from the base, causing her to stumble and splay out her arms, but she manages to catch herself and keep from falling. It looks like the ground is even more loose and unstable here, the thick webs twenty feet away...
[16:26] <@Ebiris> OOC: if you guys are continuing downwards you'll need to make the same checks. Myra's in the clear.
[16:26] <@Rudy> OOC: take10, 14
[16:26] <@Henrietta> OOC: I'll take 10 on climb for 13
[16:27] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC Taking 10 for 11
[16:27] <@Glenn> ooc: take 10 for 16 acrobatics.
[16:30] <@Ebiris> As Myra gets close to the webs with Rudy carefully picking his way down behind her, both Henrietta and Miranda suddenly find their footing going out from under them, sending them slipping and sliding downwards to the bottom in a mini-landslide!
[16:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy and Myra can make reflex saves to try and catch either of the ladies before they pass
[16:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn can catch Miranda, too.
[16:31] <@Glenn> roll d20+9 catch Miranda!
[16:31] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+9 catch Miranda! and gets 21." [d20=12]
[16:31] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 I'll catch Henrietta?
[16:31] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 I'll catch Henrietta? and gets 13." [1d20=9]
[16:32] <@Ebiris> Miranda barely tumbles a few feet before Glenn reaches out and grabs her wrist safely! It's a bone-jarring stop, but she's able to recover and get back up! Rudy finds himself a hair too slow for Henrietta, however, who tumbles head over heels right past him, but perhaps Myra can pick up the slack?
[16:33] <@Rudy> Oozing appendages stretch out with terrible slowness!
[16:33] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+1 yearite
[16:33] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+1 yearite and gets 5." [1d20=4]
[16:34] <@Glenn> "You alright, Miranda?" Glenn asks as he tries to help her get steady footing.
[16:34] <@Miranda_Altair> "Thanks Glenn! I'm okay!" Miranda says, trying to put her feet under her.
[16:35] <@Ebiris> It's no good, Henrietta falls past the eldritch horror, the sticky webs cushioning her at the bottom as the slope flattens out and she lands sprawled out over the thick mattress of webbing! It's sticky but not unmanagably slow - moving through it would be like walking through thick mud, perhaps, but it doesn't hold her fast. However, she doesn't even have time to lift her head before the very centre of the webbing shakes and a large circle of it shifts, as if something below is pushing it up!
[16:35] <@Ebiris> OOC: initiative everyone, Henrietta you're prone
[16:35] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+9
[16:35] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 me
[16:35] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 me and gets 5." [1d20=1]
[16:35] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 and gets 23." [1d20=14]
[16:35] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20+2
[16:35] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20+2 and gets 19." [1d20=17]
[16:35] <@Glenn> roll d20+6
[16:35] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 and gets 12." [d20=6]
[16:35] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[16:35] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 9." [1d20=7]
[16:35] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 myra
[16:35] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 myra and gets 19." [1d20=14]
[16:36] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Spider > Myra > Miranda > Glenn > Henrietta > Rudy'
[16:39] <@Ebiris> With Rudy and Myra at the edge of the webbing, 20 feet from the centre, and Miranda and Glenn a few feet behind them, a thick disc of web lifts off in the centre pushed by two long and hairy black legs, shifted to the side as an eight-legged monster clambers out! It's body is easily six feet long and five wide, massive long legs making it twice as wide. Eight beady black eyes stare at Henrietta over a clacking jaw boasting thin but terribly long fangs, its head squat in comparison to the large black and yellow striped abdomen behind it. It wastes no time at all in lunging forward, seemingly unslowed by the web to attack Henrietta!
[16:39] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[16:39] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 18." [1d20=11]
[16:39] <@Ebiris> OOC: AC?
[16:39] <@Henrietta> OOC: 16 normally
[16:40] <@Ebiris> roll 2d4+4
[16:40] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2d4+4 and gets 11." [2d4=4, 3]
[16:40] <@Ebiris> OOC: fort save
[16:40] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+3
[16:40] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 and gets 8." [1d20=5]
[16:41] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4 str damage
[16:41] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 str damage and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[16:42] <@Ebiris> Its fangs puncture into Henrietta's back as its bulk looms over her, legs splayed out on either side of her body as if to ward away anyone else from coming close! Worse, she feels her wound burning painfully, muscles siezing up and becoming unresponsive around the puncture of her flesh!
[16:42] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra. Web squares put you at half speed.
[16:43] * @Henrietta can't help but cry out as an incredibly huge spider bites into her unprotected back!
[16:43] <@Rudy> At a cry from Rudy, Myra sort of shambles slowly towards the spider until she's within biting range!
[16:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 another +2 if charging is possible
[16:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 another +2 if charging is possible and gets 22." [1d20=17]
[16:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d6+3
[16:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d6+3 and gets 9." [1d6=6]
[16:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: charging needs an acrobatics check, that's a hit anyway
[16:45] <@Ebiris> Shambling into the fray, Myra gives the spider something else to think about by lunging out with one of her prehensile mouths to bite it in the face just below its eyes! It emits a chittering hiss in response, yellow-green ichor flowing from the wound!
[16:45] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda
[16:46] <@Miranda_Altair> "Henrietta!" Miranda cries, throwing her hand up as a cosruscating ray fires at the spider!
[16:46] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20+3
[16:47] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20+3 and gets 21." [1d20=18]
[16:47] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[16:47] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d6+1 str damage, fort halves
[16:47] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d6+1 str damage, fort halves and gets 4." [1d6=3]
[16:47] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+6 DC?
[16:47] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+6 DC? and gets 12." [1d20=6]
[16:47] <@Miranda_Altair> OOC: DC 17
[16:48] <@Ebiris> The spider tenses up as the ray hits it, two of its legs going into spasms and its body swaying unsteadily for a moment before it manages to regain its balance!
[16:48] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[16:48] * @Glenn rushes into the fray, attempting to position himself so as to make it as difficult as possible for the spider to hit Henrietta again. OOC: Using Aid Another.
[16:49] <@Glenn> roll d20+7 vs AC 10 to give +2 AC to henrietta
[16:49] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+7 vs AC 10 to give +2 AC to henrietta and gets 16." [d20=9]
[16:50] <@Ebiris> Rushing as best he can over the webbing, Glenn gets into the spider's many-eyed face and menaces it with his own fearsome teeth and claws to keep it off balance!
[16:50] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[16:52] * @Henrietta doesn't have any better idea than rolling to her side, drawing her flail with the motion, and then slamming it into one of the creature's many creepy legs!
[16:53] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+1 (calculated in prone attack penalty)
[16:53] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+1 (calculated in prone attack penalty) and gets 19." [1d20=18]
[16:53] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[16:53] <@Henrietta> roll 1d10+3
[16:53] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d10+3 and gets 5." [1d10=2]
[16:56] <@Ebiris> Rolling over, Henrietta loses her hat as it sticks onto the mass of web beneath her, but it's still at least close at hand even if her scalp is exposed as her flail whips out, cracking off one of the arachnid's middle-right legs with a loud crunch that leaves its end twisted at a disfigured angle!
[16:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[16:57] <@Rudy> Rudy quicky unlimbers his crossbow and fires a bolt at the spider!
[16:57] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+6
[16:57] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+6 and gets 10." [1d20=4]
[16:57] <@Ebiris> The bolt sails over the crowded melee ahead, embedding itself in the web on the opposite side of the earth depression!
[16:57] <@Ebiris> OOC: another fort save, H-chan
[16:58] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+3
[16:58] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 and gets 6." [1d20=3]
[16:58] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4 str damage
[16:58] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4 str damage and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[16:59] <@Ebiris> More of Henrietta's muscles lock up from the burning that courses through her blood, making her convulse as the menacing spider attempts to clutch her up with its two fore-legs!
[16:59] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+9 CMD?
[16:59] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 CMD? and gets 26." [1d20=17]
[16:59] <@Henrietta> OOC: Not that
[17:00] <@Ebiris> The poisoned and bloodied Henrietta is unable to resist being clutched in the spider's embrace as it hisses and attempts to flee back into the hole it came from with its hard-won meal!
[17:00] <@Ebiris> OOC: this provokes AoOs from Myra and Glenn
[17:01] * @Glenn grits his teeth as he attempts to stop the spider from fleeing. "Let her go!" he yells before sinking his teeth into it's side.
[17:01] <@Glenn> roll d20+7
[17:01] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+7 and gets 9." [d20=2]
[17:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 bite
[17:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 bite and gets 15." [1d20=10]
[17:01] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra hits
[17:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d6+3
[17:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d6+3 and gets 7." [1d6=4]
[17:03] <@Ebiris> Glenn's bite is too hurried and lacking in force, his fangs only managing to glance off the hairy carapace of the overgrown invertebrate! Myra has a bit more luck, her extendable jaws managing to burst two of its eyes with her own nightmarish teeth as the spider nonetheless flees back into the hole, disappearing from sight and down into the darkness! Henrietta can see enough amid her disorientation to see that she's being carried into a twenty foot deep pit with a hollowed out orb at the bottom, dotted with more webbing and skeletal remains!
[17:03] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra
[17:04] <@Henrietta> "We're down, it took me below!" Henrietta calls out, struggling while there's still life in her.
[17:05] <@Rudy> Myra dives unhesitatingly into the pit herself, snarling furiously and aiming to take out another chunk of the creature's hide!
[17:05] <@Rudy> OOC: total darkness?
[17:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: there's light shining down from above, it's a straight drop and the spider's only a few feet down, not at the bottom, so it's easy to see from above. Go and roll Myra's attack first of all.
[17:06] * XorningZornes is now known as Kotono
[17:06] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7 banzai!
[17:06] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 banzai! and gets 16." [1d20=9]
[17:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[17:06] <@Rudy> roll 1d6+3
[17:06] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d6+3 and gets 9." [1d6=6]
[17:07] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+12 climb, even with webbing having a Myra drop on you isn't good for staying up
[17:07] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+12 climb, even with webbing having a Myra drop on you isn't good for staying up and gets 29." [1d20=17]
[17:08] <@Ebiris> Myra hurls herself bloodthirstily into the hole, landing on the spider just a few feet below the surface and biting off one of its legs at the base! The now seven-legged horror doggedly manages to hang on, the hole now well and truly plugged up by one enormous arachnid, one eldritch monstrosity, and one hatless young damsel!
[17:08] <@Ebiris> OOC: Miranda
[17:11] <@Miranda_Altair> Looking for a clear shot and not really seeing one, Miranda decides instead to hex the beast! OOC: Autohit, save is 16 Will
[17:13] <@Ebiris> OOC: you still need line of sight, so you'd have to move to the edge of the hole which is twenty feet away. It costs 40 feet of movement to cover that distance normally, which would be 2 move actions, but you can roll acrobatics to try and clear it with normal movement and then have a standard action spare for your hex
[17:14] <@Miranda_Altair> roll 1d20+2 acrobatics check go!
[17:14] * +Hatbot --> "Miranda_Altair rolls 1d20+2 acrobatics check go! and gets 16." [1d20=14]
[17:15] <@Ebiris> Hopping and skipping across the web, Miranda doesn't let it slow her down and soon she's peering down into the confused melee blocking off the vertical tunnel below, hexing the spider but good!
[17:15] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[17:15] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 14." [1d20=12]
[17:17] <@Ebiris> Dark energies suffuse the spider, filling its future with doubt!
[17:17] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[17:19] * @Glenn dashes right after Myra, also launching himself into the pit and straight at the spider. "I said to let her go, beast!" he shouts as he attacks on landing.
[17:19] <@Glenn> roll d20+7
[17:19] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+7 and gets 21." [d20=14]
[17:20] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[17:20] <@Glenn> roll d8+1
[17:20] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d8+1 and gets 4." [d8=3]
[17:20] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+9 climb, oh its poor back
[17:21] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 climb, oh its poor back and gets 10." [1d20=1]
[17:21] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+9 climb, oh its poor back
[17:21] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 climb, oh its poor back and gets 20." [1d20=11]
[17:21] <@Ebiris> OOC: well, first is definitely worse!
[17:22] <@Ebiris> The sudden impact of Glenn diving into it and biting just behind its head causes the spider to sieze up, its legs convulsing to both lose their grip on Henrietta and on the webbing around! Flailing madly, it plummets downwards, bearing all of passengers with it!
[17:22] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra, Glenn, Henrietta, you can make climb checks to try and grab onto the walls rather than fall down, or else acrobatics/jump to reduce falling damage if you want. Or just ride it to ensure you can land with your full weight on it as it impacts.
[17:23] <@Rudy> OOC: Myra is willing to plummet
[17:24] * @Henrietta twists in the spider's grasp to try and land on it, rather than the unpalatable alternative.
[17:24] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20
[17:24] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20 and gets 17." [1d20=17]
[17:24] <@Glenn> ooc: I'm willing to land on it with full weight also.
[17:25] <@Ebiris> With a daring flip, Henrietta manages to vault herself around the temporarily stunned arachind to join her friends on its topside as it falls down to the bottom of its lair!
[17:26] <@Ebiris> roll 1d6 falling damage, web is soft, but damage is tripled for spider
[17:26] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d6 falling damage, web is soft, but damage is tripled for spider and gets 2." [1d6=2]
[17:26] <@Ebiris> OOC: sorry, quadrupled
[17:28] <@Ebiris> With a sickening splat, the spider lands and is immediately crushed by the weight of the three heroes above it, Glenn and Myra causing its abdomen to decompress with a terrible splurt and spray of ichor all over the web-covered walls while Henrietta drives her knee into its head, crushing it utterly!
[17:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: fort save, Henrietta
[17:28] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+3
[17:28] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 and gets 23." [1d20=20]
[17:29] <@Ebiris> With the death of her nemesis, Henrietta's own body manages to marshal its defences and ignore the further ravages of the poison coursing within her!
[17:29] <@Rudy> "Ahh! Is everyone alright?" yells Rudy, stumbling towards the whole and pointing his crossbow down towards the darkness.
[17:30] * @Miranda_Altair winces as the group hits the bottom of the tunnel. "You guys okay?"
[17:30] <@Glenn> "We're alive! Spider, not so much!" Glenn shouts upwards, as he moves to check on Henrietta.
[17:31] <@Henrietta> "Okay? No, not really," Henrietta groans. "Not by any definition of okay."
[17:32] <@Glenn> "Here, drink this," Glenn says as he mixes some chemicals, treating them so they're safe for consumption by Henrietta. "It should help dull some of the pain."
[17:32] <@Ebiris> Down at the bottom is a very sparse lair, like a sphere dug out of the ground. Bones poke out all around, remnants of numerous meals enjoyed by this predator of the forest, none looking remotely fresh or appealing. They all seem to be animals, at least. No humans or dragons have met their ends down here!
[17:32] <@Glenn> ooc: CLW
[17:32] <@Rudy> "Can you get back up?"
[17:34] <@Henrietta> roll 1d8+1
[17:34] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d8+1 and gets 2." [1d8=1]
[17:34] <@Ebiris> While getting around the lip of the orb and into the tunnel itself might be a bit tricky, past that it should be a fairly easy climb, if a slow one - the web is sticky enough to hold onto but not enough to really trap anyone.
[17:35] <@Glenn> "It'll be a bit of a climb, but it shouldn't be too hard, using the webbing," Glenn shouts back after looking at the webbing and moves closer to it so as to start climbing. "You think you'll need any help, Henrietta?"
[17:38] <@Henrietta> "While bluster might be good in this situation, this is exactly why I have a length of rope with me," Henrietta responds with a detached tone of voice, eyeing the incline.
[17:44] * @Henrietta hands her rope over to Glenn so that he might help secure an end of it at the entrance to the spider's lair, while she herself proceeds to gut the beast with her shovel.
[17:46] * @Glenn slowly starts climbing up after securing the rope.
[17:46] <@Glenn> ooc: take 10 for 11
[17:47] <@Ebiris> There's not much left to gut after what abuse it just went through, but Henrietta scoops out a large mass of ichor embedded with semi-solid organs of mysterious function. The heady aroma down here is starting to make everyone feel a bit light-headed, as the slime and viscera accumulates. Glenn at least manages to escape, the rope and webbing making for an easy ascent.
[17:48] * @Henrietta ties the rope's abundant other end around the spider and then carefully climbs up herself, before they can try to get it out.
[17:48] <@Henrietta> OOC: I'll take 10 for 10
[17:49] <@Ebiris> Henrietta painstakingly makes her way up, abused muscles protesting but holding as she clambers back into fresh air, leaving  Myra alone down below with the mangled, partially amputated, eviscerated and compressed arachnid. She at least doesn't seem to mind the smell.
[17:53] <@Rudy> Grabbing the remnants of the creature in one hand, Myra proceeds to try and struggle upwards, using her free hand and her vicelike mouth to ascend!
[17:53] <@Rudy> *Grabbing the creature's head in one hand
[17:54] <@Ebiris> Tearing and twisting the already abused head off with a sickening tear, Myra handily decapitates it and then scrambles up to rejoin the party with her disgusting prize!
[17:55] <@Ebiris> It's a bit bigger than a dinnerplate, easily held by the monster. Its six remaining eyes glint lifelessly, fangs hanging limply underneath while yellow viscera occasionally dribbles out the back where it once met the spider's thorax and all over Myra's arms.
[17:56] <@Rudy> "Ah. I was wondering when she'd discover makeup."
[17:57] <@Glenn> When the monster is lifted up, Glenn attempts to check around it's head, searching for the poison glands, hoping to harvest them, not sure if he'll be able to use the poison, but it seemed to do a number of Henrietta, surely he'll find a use for it later on...
[17:57] <@Glenn> roll d20+12 craft(alchemy)
[17:57] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+12 craft(alchemy) and gets 19." [d20=7]
[17:58] <@Henrietta> "Let's return?" Henrietta suggests, finding her hat and then cleaning it up with magic. Once it and her head are both reasonably sanitary, she places it back where it belongs and proceeds to cleanse the rest of her person.
[17:58] <@Ebiris> Reaching in to do a bit more surgical mutiliation, Glenn manages to cut open and drain the poison into one of his ever-present bottles... probably enough for 3 doses, he thinks.
[17:59] <@Rudy> "Have you got a sack, or something?" asks Rudy, eyeing the severed head. "I don't mind striking fear into the hearts of our enemies, but this is a bit much."
[18:00] * Kotono is now known as Kofootball
[18:02] * @Glenn looks satisfied as he corks up the bottles and looks for a tree or bush he can somewhat clean his hands on after shaking his head at Rudy's question. "Closest I could offer is my tent, although it is kind of small it's probably big enough to wrap part of it on...I'd hate to have to buy a new tent though."
[18:03] <@Henrietta> "I happen to have a waterproof bag in addition to that, and I am confident in my magic to be able to clean either thoroughly afterwards. Would either do?"
[18:05] <@Rudy> "That sounds good! Especially the cleaning part."
[18:05] * @Henrietta nods. "It is an essential part of adventuring, my father always said."
