Ebiris

[13:04] <@Ebiris> Standing half in the forest at the very edge of the overgrown forest, the threesome stand over the rotten corpse of their naturally animated assailant and the ragged deritrus of vines and creepers now rent and torn asunder until they were no more threat. Above their heads rain continues to patter softly down from dark grey cloudy skies, and only a faint wind-borne rustling of pine branches is heard in the unnaturally silent forest...
[13:05] <@Henrietta> "We could, umm, we could try to burn the village down?" Henrietta suggests. "Although it would take a while with my magic and the rain, I suppose...."
[13:06] <@Lucie> "Anybody ever heard of plants that like to move bodies around?" Lucie asks, kicking through the debris. "Was like the plant was doing everything, not like some ghost had control of the body."
[13:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: knowledge nature if you have it
[13:06] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+6
[13:06] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+6 and gets 26." [1d20=20]
[13:07] <@Rudy> "Beats me," replies Rudy. "Be pretty hard to burn unless we wait for the rain to stop and things to dry. Let's dig up that mound and see if anything's there?"
[13:08] -> *Henrietta* You've heard of plants like these. Blood Creepers are a carniverous species of vine that feed on the blood of unaware or slow animals (or people), infesting their prey and animating them as a further defence against their own herbiverous predators.
[13:09] <@Lucie> "Sure, sure." Lucie continues maneuvering around the outskirts of the village, on the lookout for any more suspiciously mobile corpses or unsightly vines. "But you know, let's have one of your goons poke his head in there and find out before we dig it up?"
[13:09] <@Henrietta> "Well, you see, usually it's the other way around," Henrietta admits, shuffling in place while trying to get used to her temporarily-larger form. "But this sort of thing does happen, I'm afraid. Carnivorous plants that drink the blood of animals and people like vampires! They are the worst! The absolute worst!"
[13:10] <@Lucie> "Sound like you're taking this personally," Lucie observes.
[13:10] * @Henrietta peers at Rudy, then. "Did you, that is... did you get infested?"
[13:10] * @Lucie pauses, gives Henri a skeptical look. Then Rudy.
[13:10] <@Ebiris> From her tall vantage Henrietta can easily see over the dilapidated huts and oversee the whole village. The mound is closer now, a large barrow in the earth with a somewhat sagging stone passageway within. One that is quite heavily choked with vines.
[13:11] <@Rudy> "What?" Rudy's voice is at least one octave higher. "No way! Absolutely not!"
[13:11] <@Henrietta> "T-Then, it is alright!" Henrietta hurriedly assures him. "Can you, you think, send a fire elemental over to the mound? I will add my own magic, and we can burn the vines away!"
[13:11] <@Lucie> "How can we tell?" Lucie asks Henri, apparent botanical expert.
[13:12] <@Henrietta> "If he stops talking and acts like he is a reanimated puppet and sprouts vines," Henrietta whispers to Lucie.
[13:12] <@Rudy> "I can hear you!"
[13:12] * @Lucie nods, watching Rudy closely for these symptoms.
[13:13] <@Henrietta> "I'm sorry, I'll whisper more quietly!"
[13:13] <@Rudy> "And that will not happen!" he insists, waving a hand and throwing out animated fire!
[13:13] <@Rudy> roll 1d3
[13:13] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d3 and gets 1." [1d3=1]
[13:13] <@Rudy> Myra vanishes without fanfare.
[13:13] <@Henrietta> A dragon-shaped, cheerful firework follows suit!
[13:15] <@Ebiris> The dark coloured fiery figure the size of a small child hisses into existence at Rudy's behest, snapping and crackling in tiny gouts of steam where the rain hits it and awaiting its command.
[13:17] <@Rudy> The midget-like flame goes forth to burn the vines away!
[13:17] <@Henrietta> Once the elemental is about to reach the mound, Henrietta sends her fireworks to support it!
[13:17] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4
[13:17] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[13:21] <@Ebiris> Stepping between the huts and charring their walls as it goes, the smell of wet wood burning a tang to the ears as the elemental tromps over vines and into the village centre before bee-lining towards the mound. It's halfway there when Henrietta can see vines beginning to slither and snake, a trio of fouly rotten corpses emerging from  several of the huts to converge on the invader as if being controlled by vile puppeteers, their bestial forms misshapen to start with and the rot having done them little favours.
[13:21] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3 reflex
[13:21] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 reflex and gets 8." [1d20=5]
[13:22] <@Ebiris> The vines choking the entrance are burnt somewhat, a few of them flailing animatedly after Henrietta's spell and receding into the darkness while more simply remain inert.
[13:23] <@Ebiris> OOC: init now unless you want to let the elemental fight alone in which case the battle will be handwaved?
[13:23] <@Rudy> The elemental opts to run away from the hulking invaders rather than stick around and fight, in the hopes that they'll follow it far away!
[13:24] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[13:24] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 21." [1d20=19]
[13:24] <@Ebiris> Charging into the forest, the elemental vastly outpaces any pursuit and swiftly vanishes from sight, the painfully slow corpses moving ponderously to follow.
[13:26] <@Rudy> "Maybe they'll follow it forever," remarks Rudy. "Then I guess we can just throw a couple torches on the mound and see if it burns up by itself."
[13:28] <@Ebiris> roll 3#1d20 init it is
[13:28] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 3#1d20 init it is and gets 34." [3#1d20 = 17, 6, 11]
[13:28] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 init for rudy
[13:28] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 init for rudy and gets 14." [1d20=9]
[13:29] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+6 Lucie, though it only matters if something notices us
[13:29] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+6 Lucie, though it only matters if something notices us and gets 11." [1d20=5]
[13:30] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Zombie 1 > Rudy > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[13:30] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Henri
[13:31] <@Henrietta> A fresh firework is directed towards the vines that still remained in sight! Henrietta peers at the results, ready to follow up with a Magic Missile should they begin to retreat as well.
[13:31] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4
[13:31] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 and gets 2." [1d4=2]
[13:31] <@Ebiris> OOC: which vines? The village is completely choked with them.
[13:32] <@Henrietta> OOC: Let's say the vines surrounding the hut where the farthest zombie emerged from.
[13:32] <@Ebiris> roll 1d100
[13:32] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 96." [1d100=96]
[13:32] <@Ebiris> A cluster of reddish vines are burnt and charred by Henrietta's firework! They show no reaction other than smouldering.
[13:33] * @Henrietta lets them sizzle for now, conserving her magical strength!
[13:34] <@Ebiris> A zombie shuffles painfully slowly in the vague direction of where the fire elemental fled from.
[13:34] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[13:35] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+12 vinewatchin'
[13:35] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+12 vinewatchin' and gets 19." [1d20=7]
[13:36] <@Lucie> OOC: ignore! Spacedcid.
[13:36] <@Rudy> "Y'know, Lucie, I'm starting to feel real good about finding some other route," mentions Rudy, staring balefully at the vines all around them. "What's our plan here? This place isn't gonna burn down unless the rain stops."
[13:37] <@Lucie> "Don't see any easier way." Lucie considers for a moment. "Circle 'round back of the mound, climb on top and dig through the roof? Dunno. That only works if the vines aren't behind it too."
[13:38] <@Henrietta> "Well, these vines will run out of undead eventually, won't they?" Henrietta voices. "And they're not that strong, so we could use elementals to dig them up or set them on fire. And if that Stag Lord is the one behind it, then digging him up should do the trick."
[13:38] <@Ebiris> As the pair discuss, two more zombies shuffle after the first, slowly converging on the fire elemental's last position without so much as a moan.
[13:38] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henri
[13:39] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2 perception!
[13:39] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 perception! and gets 8." [1d20=6]
[13:39] <@Ebiris> The vines all look the same to Henrietta, dark red and sinuously weaving all over the village. No way to tell if one's a danger until it's trying to snake around your ankle!
[13:40] * @Henrietta picks an adjacent house to her previous target, and directs a firework to it! Maybe the vines there need burning!
[13:40] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4
[13:40] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[13:40] <@Ebiris> roll 1d100
[13:40] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 67." [1d100=67]
[13:40] <@Ebiris> These vines seem quite dormant as well given how meekly they submit to being burnt.
[13:40] * @Lucie leans against the nearby hut. "Or we could sit here all afternoon and wait for Henri to burn everything piece by piece?"
[13:41] <@Ebiris> It seems the zombie has already lost track of the fire elemental and for now it stands aimlessly where it is.
[13:41] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy + Lucie power hour
[13:41] <@Henrietta> "Or Rudy can summon another elemental, because the zombies are too slow and lost it?"
[13:42] * @Lucie shrugs. "Tell you the truth, I'm pretty ready to break some skulls here." Lucie just waits with the rest of the team though, as this is clearly the safer plan.
[13:42] <@Rudy> "Oh, geez." Rudy summons another batch of elementals. But this time they are earth elementals, and they all start beating on the zombies!
[13:43] <@Rudy> roll 1d3
[13:43] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d3 and gets 2." [1d3=2]
[13:43] * Retrieving #dunes modes...
[13:43] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Zombie 1 > Rudy > 2 Earth Elementals > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[13:43] <@Rudy> They appear on either side of the staionary zombie, and immediately throw heavy punches!
[13:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+8 e1
[13:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+8 e2
[13:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+8 e1 and gets 28." [1d20=20]
[13:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+8 e2 and gets 28." [1d20=20]
[13:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: crit checks
[13:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+8 crit1
[13:44] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+8 crit2
[13:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+8 crit1 and gets 9." [1d20=1]
[13:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+8 crit2 and gets 9." [1d20=1]
[13:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: 2 hits
[13:44] <@Rudy> roll 2d6+8 this is like a single crit
[13:44] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 2d6+8 this is like a single crit and gets 18." [2d6=4, 6]
[13:45] <@Ebiris> The zombie is wrecked by a pair of powerful earthen fists, caving in its face and shattering its spine such that vertebrae are clearly visible sticking out nearly horizontally to Henrietta, its body suffused with the familiar dark red vines and staying upright despite such abuse!
[13:45] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[13:46] * @Lucie continues loitering at the edge of the village with the others. Hey, she can't summon lackeys or throw firebombs.
[13:48] <@Ebiris> The other two zombies fully abandon the fire elemental and converge on the face punching elemental in uncoordinated synchronicity!
[13:48] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[13:48] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 21." [1d20=17]
[13:48] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[13:48] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 23." [1d20=19]
[13:48] <@Ebiris> roll 1d6+4
[13:48] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d6+4 and gets 6." [1d6=2]
[13:48] <@Ebiris> roll 1d6+4
[13:48] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d6+4 and gets 8." [1d6=4]
[13:48] <@Rudy> OOC: If they both hit one guy it dies!
[13:49] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Zombie 1 > Rudy > Earth Elemental > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[13:49] <@Ebiris> In the face of such pounding, the elemental is reduced back to the earth, providing fertile soil for less murderous plants in future!
[13:49] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henri
[13:50] * @Henrietta directs the next firework at the exposed zombie, and follows up with a ray of positive energy!
[13:50] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4
[13:50] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[13:50] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20 reflex
[13:50] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20 reflex and gets 17." [1d20=17]
[13:50] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+4 ranged touch?
[13:50] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+4 ranged touch? and gets 24." [1d20=20]
[13:50] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+4 ranged touch? crit?
[13:50] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+4 ranged touch? crit? and gets 18." [1d20=14]
[13:50] <@Henrietta> roll 2d6 die, zombie!
[13:50] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 2d6 die, zombie! and gets 2." [2d6=1, 1]
[13:51] <@Ebiris> The zombie is charred somewhat by the firework but seems to completely ignore the follow up ray arcing down from above! And thus is unimpeded in retaliating against the earth elemental that broke its back with a double fisted overhand swing!
[13:51] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[13:51] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 24." [1d20=20]
[13:51] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4 crit check
[13:51] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 crit check and gets 20." [1d20=16]
[13:52] <@Ebiris> roll 2d6+8
[13:52] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2d6+8 and gets 14." [2d6=5, 1]
[13:52] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Zombie 1 > Rudy > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[13:53] <@Ebiris> The blow smashes through the earthen form, collapsing it completely!
[13:53] <@Henrietta> "I think the elementals were somewhat, well, weak," Henrietta is sad to report.
[13:53] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[13:54] <@Lucie> "Better them than us, right?"
[13:54] <@Henrietta> "They are destroying them! Slowly! But surely!"
[13:54] <@Rudy> "Yes, well, it's three on two! They can't win against those odds," replies Rudy, crossly. The next thing that appears is a small floating orb of blacklight that begins pelting the zombies with monochrome beams!
[13:55] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3 touch beam1
[13:55] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3 touch beam2
[13:55] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3 touch beam1 and gets 13." [1d20=10]
[13:55] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3 touch beam2 and gets 11." [1d20=8]
[13:55] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Zombie 1 > Rudy > Lantern > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[13:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: both hit.
[13:55] <@Rudy> roll 2d6
[13:55] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 2d6 and gets 5." [2d6=1, 4]
[13:56] <@Ebiris> To Henrietta's eyes the deadly black beams pass completely through the corpse's dessicated flesh and bone yet shrivel and burn away the vines underneath with ease!
[13:56] <@Ebiris> It's still up, mind you. But that had to hurt!
[13:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[13:56] <@Henrietta> "This one is much better!"
[13:57] * @Lucie busies herself undoing the inevitable tangles one's hair acquires on a trek through the forest.
[13:57] <@Ebiris> The two unharmed zombies seem to find nothing worth their interest now and begin shuffling back to the shelter of their huts.
[13:57] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[13:58] * @Henrietta follows up with her last firework against the exposed zombie, and then targets the vines she can see animating it with a trio of her roses!
[13:58] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4
[13:58] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 and gets 3." [1d4=3]
[13:58] <@Henrietta> roll 3d4+3
[13:58] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 3d4+3 and gets 12." [3d4=4, 2, 3]
[13:59] <@Ebiris> Burnt and pummelled, the zombie seems to give up the ghost, crumbling and collapsing as the ravaged vines within vinally withdraw from the no longer effective puppet!
[13:59] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Vines 1 > Rudy > Lantern > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[13:59] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy and summon
[14:01] <@Rudy> The lantern archon continues to harass another of the zombies, faint chimes echoing in the rain with every shot!
[14:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3
[14:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+3
[14:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3  and gets 18." [1d20=15]
[14:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+3  and gets 22." [1d20=19]
[14:01] <@Rudy> roll 2d6
[14:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 2d6 and gets 7." [2d6=5, 2]
[14:01] <@Ebiris> The zombie seems physically undamaged by the rays passing through its back, but it jerks nonetheless!
[14:01] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[14:02] <@Henrietta> "We can try to move in now?" Henrietta suggests. "The zombies are retreating."
[14:05] * @Lucie steps in close enough to reach out with her arcane powers and surround the disembodied vines in an aura of crippling cold!
[14:05] <@Lucie> roll 5d6 cold damage, fort dc 17 for half
[14:05] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 5d6 cold damage, fort dc 17 for half and gets 22." [5d6=2, 6, 5, 6, 3]
[14:06] <@Ebiris> Stepping through the charred path left by the fire elemental and finally seeing her target, Lucie's fell curse causes the vines to shrivel up and turn blue as they're flash-frozen into a jagged sculpture!
[14:06] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Rudy > Lantern > Lucie > Zombie 2 > Zombie 3'
[14:06] <@Ebiris> The two zombies seem uninterested in Lucie, disappearing into two different partially collapsed huts.
[14:07] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+6 fort sorry
[14:07] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+6 fort sorry and gets 9." [1d20=3]
[14:07] <@Ebiris> OOC: Carry on. Henrietta!
[14:08] * @Lucie watches the zombies depart. "You know, I wonder...doesn't look like it'd take much effort to finish sending those huts to the ground. Push 'em over, bash heads in as the zombies try to struggle up?"
[14:08] <@Rudy> "Yeah, I want to ask, is there a point to that?" asks Rudy, after a moment.
[14:08] * @Henrietta steps out into the open, heading past Lucie. Once more, dragon-shaped fireworks are created, and one of them is sent on the heels of the leftmost of the disappearing zombies!
[14:09] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4 that hut!
[14:09] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 that hut! and gets 4." [1d4=4]
[14:09] <@Ebiris> OOC: do the fireworks let you hit something you can't see?
[14:09] <@Henrietta> OOC: It detonates in a 5ft square, so it doesn't have to have humanoid targets
[14:10] <@Henrietta> OOC: I can choose just past the door or something?
[14:10] <@Ebiris> OOC: yes but a humanoid fills a 5 foot square. If you want to hit a square in the doorway that's fine, but you can't hit the zombie's square.
[14:10] <@Henrietta> OOC: That's fine, I want to draw it out and burn down its house
[14:11] <@Ebiris> The snapdragon hits the damp wood and chars it, burning a hole through and smouldering. It's not enough to catch fire in these wet conditions, though.
[14:11] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[14:11] <@Henrietta> "The other two zombies went that way," Henrietta says, pointing out the two run-down buildings.
[14:13] <@Rudy> "They've gone away, and that's what's important," replies Rudy, letting the lantern archon vanish and summoning some earth elementals. "Go down into that mound and see if there's any bodies down there!" he orders.
[14:13] <@Rudy> roll 1d3 elementals!
[14:13] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d3 elementals! and gets 3." [1d3=3]
[14:13] <@Ebiris> The muddy earth forms bodies at Rudy's command and vanishes into the huge earthen mound from three different points, all avoiding the front door.
[14:13] <@Ebiris> roll 3#1d100
[14:13] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 3#1d100 and gets 169." [3#1d100 = 77, 78, 14]
[14:16] <@Ebiris> roll 8#1d100
[14:16] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 8#1d100 and gets 401." [8#1d100 = 15, 90, 41, 67, 83, 9, 10, 86]
[14:18] <@Ebiris> Henrietta spends a while randomly spamming fireworks around the village. They don't really burn much, but it makes her feel better? Most of the vines simply burn as sessile plants are wont to do so, smouldering briefly before being put out by the rain. Then she gets some luck hitting a cluster creeping up the side of a rotted tent merely twenty feet away, the vines shrivelling and writhing before they begin flexing and pushing in her direction.
[14:18] <@Ebiris> OOC: init then
[14:19] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2 vines
[14:19] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 vines and gets 3." [1d20=1]
[14:19] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5
[14:19] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[14:19] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 and gets 24." [1d20=19]
[14:19] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 7." [1d20=5]
[14:19] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2 dog
[14:19] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 dog and gets 17." [1d20=15]
[14:19] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+6
* Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+6 and gets 23." [1d20=17]
[14:21] * Afina changes topic to 'Rudy > Lucie > Val > Henrietta > Vines'
[14:21] <@Afina> OOC: Go Rudy
[14:21] <@Rudy> Rudy fires upon the vines when they start slithering towards them, opting not to take any more chances at a close encounter!
[14:21] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7
[14:21] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7
[14:21] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 and gets 11." [1d20=4]
[14:21] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 and gets 24." [1d20=17]
[14:22] <@Afina> OOC: 1 hit
[14:22] <@Rudy> roll 1d8+1
[14:22] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d8+1 and gets 3." [1d8=2]
[14:22] * Quits: @Ebiris (Ebiris@95.150.135.52) (Ping timeout)
[14:22] <@Afina> A bolt fired quickly shears through a tendril but does little more!
[14:22] <@Afina> OOC: Lucie
[14:22] * Afina is now known as Ebiris
[14:23] * @Lucie strides forward and swings her mace at the malicious foliage!
[14:23] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+5
[14:23] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+5 and gets 13." [1d20=8]
[14:23] <@Ebiris> Her swing is errant, too high to avoid skipping off the ground she misses the vines entirely as they slither below her, seeming excited by her presence! Henrietta's black dog growls and stays close to her heels.
[14:23] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[14:24] * @Henrietta winces as Lucie sets herself up for horrible violation, and holds her spot. She will support her as best as she can, with another firework sent at the vines and her signature roses on its heel!
[14:24] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4
[14:24] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 and gets 1." [1d4=1]
[14:24] <@Henrietta> roll 3d4+3
[14:24] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 3d4+3 and gets 8." [3d4=1, 3, 1]
[14:25] <@Ebiris> The vine is hardly damaged at all by the firework, but the array of spectral roses dotting its length causes a bit more damage. Not enough, though, to keep it from slithering up Lucie's leg to get at her!
[14:26] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[14:26] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 26." [1d20=19]
[14:26] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4+4
[14:26] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4+4 and gets 8." [1d4=4]
[14:26] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7 CMB to grapple
[14:26] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 CMB to grapple and gets 25." [1d20=18]
[14:27] <@Ebiris> Lucie is squeezed painfully as the vine slithers up her body, faster now as a meal tantalises it, it binds her arms and legs tightly and begins to crush her!
[14:27] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[14:28] <@Rudy> "Lucie!" There's only one thing to do, then- subject Lucie to the same growth spell that still affects Henri even now! She almost doubles in size!
[14:29] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[14:30] * @Lucie is angry now, and you wouldn't like her when she's angry! She flexes her newly-enhanced muslces to try and break the vine's grasp.
[14:30] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+6 CMB to break free, right?
[14:30] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+6 CMB to break free, right? and gets 20." [1d20=14]
[14:31] <@Ebiris> Already having to adjust to her greater girth, the vines are easily shucked off by a powerful flex from Lucie, sending them to the ground at her feet! Val waits right where he is for now.
[14:31] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henri
[14:31] * @Henrietta follows up with what she does best!
[14:31] <@Henrietta> roll 1d4 fire!
[14:31] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d4 fire! and gets 4." [1d4=4]
[14:31] <@Henrietta> roll 3d4+3 force!
[14:31] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 3d4+3 force! and gets 10." [3d4=2, 3, 2]
[14:32] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3 reflex
[14:32] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 reflex and gets 16." [1d20=13]
[14:33] <@Henrietta> OOC: DC17
[14:33] <@Ebiris> The vines are burnt and pummelled viciously by this onslaught, but it doesn't keep them from retaliating mindlessly at Lucie!
[14:33] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[14:33] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 22." [1d20=15]
[14:33] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4+4
[14:33] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4+4 and gets 5." [1d4=1]
[14:33] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7 CMB
[14:33] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 CMB and gets 21." [1d20=14]
[14:34] <@Ebiris> Now seemingly prepared for Lucie's new dimensions, the vines manage to entangle her a second time!
[14:34] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[14:35] <@Henrietta> Low on magic, now, Henrietta will have no choice but to rely on her trusted flail! "I'm coming for you, Lucie!" she calls, signaling Val to get ready to charge in alongside her. "Hold still!"
[14:36] <@Lucie> "Like I have much choice!" Lucie grumbles back, squirming in discomfort.
[14:36] <@Rudy> Rudy aims at the roots of the vines, hoping to break the connection to the bits strangling Lucie before it's too late!
[14:36] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+6
[14:36] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+6
[14:36] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+6 and gets 12." [1d20=6]
[14:36] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+6 and gets 8." [1d20=2]
[14:37] <@Ebiris> Having to aim so carefully while a giant-sized Lucie stomps about in her entangled predicament is no easy feat... and one sadly beyond Rudy at this time.
[14:37] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie. Or Henri and Val if she holds.
[14:37] <@Lucie> OOC: which I do!
[14:37] <@Henrietta> And so, Henrietta charges!
[14:37] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+9
[14:37] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+9 and gets 29." [1d20=20]
[14:37] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+9 crit?
[14:37] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+9 crit? and gets 19." [1d20=10]
[14:38] <@Ebiris> OOC: crit
[14:38] <@Henrietta> roll 4d8+14
[14:38] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 4d8+14 and gets 31." [4d8=5, 6, 4, 2]
[14:39] <@Ebiris> Val just barks in support as two titanic women slam into each other! The only loser is the unseeing vine which is torn off of Lucie by the redhaired sorceress's wildly swinging flail! And no sooner than that happens does one of Rudy's elementals emerge from the mound and stomp over towards the group.
[14:39] <@Lucie> "Thanks," Lucie mutters as she brushes dead tangles off vine off herself, wobbling a little as she gets used to this too-big body she finds herself in.
[14:40] <@Rudy> Rudy turns to the elemental, expecting a no-doubt cogent and detailed report!
[14:40] * @Henrietta helps steady Lucie, keeping a watchful eye for any other creeping vines!
[14:41] <@Ebiris> "Hnnnk... much earth... soil and stone," the elemental grumbles in its gravelly voice just as a second appears and starts approaching as well. "Not-earth bone and shaped metal return to the earth. Grrrk... not-earth plants feed."
[14:42] * @Lucie looks at the others. "Probably what we're looking for. Guarded, after a fashion."
[14:42] <@Ebiris> "Not-earth holes. Many," the second elemental reports after arriving.
[14:43] <@Henrietta> "Can they, well, dig the bones up?"
[14:43] <@Rudy> "We might just have to go down there and get it," replies Rudy, starting to trudge towards the mound. "You, elementals, you go in front."
[14:44] <@Rudy> He pauses. "Or they could do that? I dunno. You, elemental, can you go get the bones?"
[14:45] <@Ebiris> The two elementals obediently take point, the group fortunately not passing close enough to any occupied huts to rouse their inhabitants. Stamping over sessile vines and nearing the dark passageway into the earth. "Hnnrk..." the sound of stones grinding as the elementals face Rudy. "Which?" one asks, the other adding, "Many."
[14:45] <@Lucie> "Anything that means we don't have to walk down there ourselves is fine by me," Lucie agrees. "Maybe the vines don't even care about these rock guys."
[14:46] <@Henrietta> "All those the vines are..." Henrietta grimaces. "Feeding on?"
[14:48] <@Rudy> "Y'know, this is sounding more and more like a lost cause," notes Rudy, pausing before heading inside. "I figured this'd be simple, y'know? But now I'm thinking we might as well head back and find another bridge or something."
[14:49] <@Lucie> "I told you two again and again, just knock him down and move on," Lucie grumbles as she follows Rudy inside. "How many other zombies have we all killed by this point?"
[14:49] <@Henrietta> "We can't just leave this! Think of what happens if those vines spread more!"
[14:49] <@Ebiris> Since Rudy is entering the elementals move ahead to guard him. Fortunately the vines underfoot submit to being trampled without violent protest, the interior passage reinforced with old and weathered stone to hold it up. Unfortunately it's very dark just a short way in, so a light source is required. Also it's a bit of a squeeze for Henrietta and Lucie.
[14:50] <@Rudy> "There's nobody around here, Henri! Except us. Because we're dumb." Rudy grumbles to himself, but waves a hand and removes the enchantment keeping Henri and Lucie so large.
[14:50] <@Lucie> Lucie obligingly turns her mace into a light source.
[14:52] <@Ebiris> With light provided, Lucie can see a shattered door barely visible underneath the vines snaking across the ground and out into the village. The path descends a short way before reaching a t-junction just past the door, two recessed cavitys in the wall visible ahead of you and bearing skeletal occupants lying in repose, girded in some kind of leather while a glint of metal shines off the light.
[14:53] * @Lucie steps forward to examine the remains, looking for anything that might identify someone as the Stag Lord. Or at least something that might be valuable.
[14:54] <@Rudy> "Hey, dead guys! Should we see if they've got any shit worth stealing?"
[14:54] * @Henrietta studiously looks away.
[14:54] <@Lucie> "Seem like someone else around here is using this stuff?" Lucie wonders to the skeptical onlookers.
[14:55] <@Rudy> "What do you mean?"
[14:56] * @Lucie shrugs. "Never mind. Thought you were having a dig at me or something."
[14:56] <@Ebiris> Reaching the remains Lucie can also see the paths extending in either direction, similar recesses bearing their own long dead occupants lining the walls where the paths both turn in the same direction and downwards a short ways off. Both corpses are wearing antiquated leather armour, similar to the style worn by the beastmen ducks of earlier, but cracked and aged with time to be quite useless as armour. The skeletons themselves seem quite human, no sign of bestial deformity, and one clutches an rusting iron axe in hand while the other bears a somewhat better preserved steel sword, the weapons laid over their chests with hands clasping them in typical funerary pose.
[14:57] <@Rudy> "Hey, I'm just surprised you're still bothering," replies Rudy. "It's not like we need to scavenge. I guess we see if any of these guys is the one we're looking for."
[14:57] <@Henrietta> "Is there... a sort of focal point, I suppose?"
[14:58] <@Ebiris> The vines continue to litter the floor, flowing in both directions from the junction and downwards from the visible turns.
[14:58] <@Lucie> "Town crypt, I guess...No idea if there's any kind of order to the place. Guess we just walk and see what we find." Lucie shrugs and arbitrarily turns left.
[15:00] <@Rudy> The elementals slowly lumber after Lucie, and Rudy is behind them!
[15:02] <@Ebiris> Following the path to the left, Lucie finds it sloping downwards. A tripwire is plainly visible, having been long severed by the vines and a log on chains hangs from the ceiling at perfect height to smash in the face of anyone who broke it. Nonetheless it's easy enough to walk around now, passing by yet more interred corpses dressed in ancient and degraded armour and clutching the weapons they wielded in life so long ago. The sloping path turns to the right again, seeming to converge with the one that came from the other direction of the t-junction, a wider path now merging onwards over another doorway broken and overgrown with vines.
[15:03] * @Lucie proceeds onwards, now keeping a close lookout for any traps that the vines might have not accidentally triggered.
[15:03] <@Ebiris> OOC: perception, Lucie
[15:04] * @Henrietta ends up keeping watch behind them, so they don't get flanked or overrun!
[15:04] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+12
[15:04] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+12 and gets 15." [1d20=3]
[15:04] <@Rudy> Rudy can't shake off a suspicion that what they're looking for won't be here, but why turn down a chance to explore a good ruin that might collapse at any second?
[15:05] <@Ebiris> Lucie doesn't notice any traps... not until she steps on some vines that depress further into a sinking pressure plate beneath her feet. Abruptly a jet of flame gushes from a pair of sockets in the wall on either side, blasting her from both sides!
[15:05] <@Ebiris> roll 6d4 and reflex, Lucie
[15:05] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 6d4 and reflex, Lucie and gets 16." [6d4=2, 1, 4, 2, 3, 4]
[15:06] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+4 ow
[15:06] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+4 ow and gets 12." [1d20=8]
[15:06] <@Ebiris> The flames only burn for a second before giving out, but that's plenty of time to bake Lucie under their heat! At least the vines under her seem no better off?
[15:08] * @Lucie yelps and leaps back, beating away the flames singing her dress. "Right...right," she says, grinding her teeth. "Rudy, your goons can keep taking point here."
[15:08] * Quits: NeremWorld (Nerem@pool-71-170-107-199.dllstx.fios.verizon.net) (Ping timeout)
[15:09] <@Rudy> "You okay?" asks Rudy, worriedly. "You want to rest a bit or anything first?" The elementals wordlessly shamble to the front, and continue to wander forward.
[15:10] <@Lucie> "I want to be in a warm bed somewhere," Lucie grumbles. "You got one of those handy, let me know, otherwise we keep moving. Maybe a potion or something if anyone brought any?"
[15:11] <@Henrietta> "We really should buy them, don't we?" Henrietta commiserates.
[15:11] <@Ebiris> The elementals shamble forward a bit before stopping some way down the corridor past the shattered doorway. The hall continues ahead but there's also an opening to the right into another wide chamber.
[15:11] <@Rudy> "I keep thinking that I won't get hurt, so why bother?" Rudy directs the elementals to head to the right, and pokes his head in soon after.
[15:12] <@Lucie> "Well, walk in front for a bit, that'll cure you of the delusion. Though how the play didn't teach you better is beyond me."
[15:13] <@Ebiris> Noticably the vines don't seem to go much farther down the corridor, rather trailing primarily to the right. The elementals march lockstep off in that direction towards what seems to be a large pit that the vines spill into... and just as Rudy pokes his head around the corner he sees a pair of singularly titanic red vines... more like the tentacles on a great kraken in stature, rise up from the pit!
[15:13] <@Rudy> "I figured I wouldn't be doing anything that torturous again!" retorts Rudy, before backing off. "Oh, god!"
[15:13] <@Ebiris> OOC: init time

[15:15] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Source > Elementals > Rudy > Dog > Lucie > Henrietta'
[15:17] <@Ebiris> The widening path goes about ten feet from Rudy to where the elementals stand on the lip of a forty foot wide circular pit, a slope descending around its circumfurance to the unseen bottom. The two tentacles waste little time in lashing out, one for each elemental!
[15:17] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+10 CMB elemental 1
[15:17] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+10 CMB elemental 1 and gets 27." [1d20=17]

[15:17] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+10 CMB elemental 2 and gets 23." [1d20=13]
[15:18] <@Ebiris> Both are snatched up in a flash, gigantic bloody red tentacles circling around them and lifting them up above the pit like prizes as it shakes them triumphantly and begins to squeeze!
[15:18] <@Ebiris> OOC: elementals. Both are grappled and held about thirty feet in the air.
[15:19] <@Rudy> The elementals struggle in an attempt to break free!

[15:20] <@Ebiris> Both of them squirm and wriggle but to no effect, enfolded and trapped in the nightmarish grasp of the greatest blood creeper of them all!
[15:20] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[15:22] <@Rudy> "Fuck! I'm not going in there," states Rudy, backing away from the room. "We need like... bombs or fireballs or a team of lumberjacks or something!"
[15:22] <@Ebiris> Val seems content to stay by Henrietta's heel.
[15:22] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[15:25] <@Rudy> Rudy waves a hand nonetheless, empowering everyone with additional speed!
[15:25] <@Ebiris> The much faster Dog seems happy to stay by Henrietta's heel anyway!
[15:25] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[15:26] * @Lucie darts into the room and lays into the tentacles while they're busy with the elementals!
[15:26] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+5+1 haste!
[15:26] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+5+1 haste! and gets 7." [1d20=1]
[15:28] <@Ebiris> Rushing into the room, Lucie reaches the overlook where she can just reach the tentacles as the write before her in the process of crushing the rocky avatars. Below she can see what could perhaps have been a rubbish tip or a place to put the dishonoured dead, for amidst the choking expanse of flowering vines which merge and form into those massive tentacles are all manner of broken objects, filth, and corpses. One corpse stands out, right between the two tentacles where a space around it lies completely free of vines. It's a human laying face down, his back and head covered by a strangely pristine brown furred mantle from which a pair of magnificent stag horns project. Unfortunately taking all this in is such a task that she's distracted and misses her attack.
[15:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[15:29] <@Henrietta> Likewise, Henrietta sees no better option! Picking the opposite side from Lucie, she gives that fearsome tentacle a whack with her flail!

[15:33] <@Ebiris> Both dog and mistress gouge out chunks of thick plant-matter with their attacks, the tentacles oozing a curiously bloody sap and writhing angrily! For now they focus on crushing their current prey, however...

[15:37] <@Ebiris> A pair of bolts puncture a tentacle each, adding Rudy's mark to the battle as the flailing tentacles draw back from the precipice to prevent easy reach. Snarling at such impudence, Val pushes off his powerful legs and jumps down the ten feet into the rubbish tip below, rushing towards the base of the tentacles where he can savage them without any dodging!

[15:45] <@Ebiris> While Henrietta's attack savagely rends the base of one tentacle, Lucie stumbles in the trash and corpses and only gets a glancing blow off of her target! Sensing these new threats, the source of the blood creepers tries to finish off the tentacles while all around the flowers of the smaller vines bloom and blossom a diffuse powder of spores throughout the pit!

[15:47] <@Ebiris> The spores spread quickly, being inhaled by the two heroines and dog despite their best efforts. But adrenaline chases away numbing sleep, and both of them shrug off the urge to space out so they can focus on the deadly threat before them!

[15:53] <@Ebiris> The prodigiously grown plants have their bases shorn and eroded by this flurry of deadly attacks, both tentacles exposed almost to their centres, sickly pale inner flesh exposed and bloody sap dripping! Smaller secondary vines all around the midden heap and along the floor of the catacombs shudder and shrivel now, but in its last gasps it still endures! [15:59] <@Ebiris> While Henrietta hasn't recovered enough for a decisive hit, Lucie's swinging mace rends through deadly plant masses, pushing down into the roots as she smashes and tears with her deadly weapon! It teeters on the brink above her, a tentacle slowly swinging down in reprisal... but falling short and crashing into the midden with a thunderous roar and surge of dust and dirt thrown into the air. The other giant tentacle likewise collapses, braced against the wall and laying inert at last...
[16:01] <@Rudy> "Good gods above, but you people frighten me," remarks Rudy, eventually stepping forward to peer down the precipice.
[16:01] * @Henrietta looks at the evil plants in disbelief, but then smiles at Lucie. "Congratulations!"
[16:02] <@Lucie> "More than evil plants, Rudy?" Lucie points to the horned corpse lying in the pit. "Look, we found the damned body already."
[16:02] <@Ebiris> Rudy sees two women and a dog standing over a huge pile of rubbish and corpses, dead and inert creepers spread all about besides the two prodigious tentacles, and a curiously unscathed corpse with antlers.
[16:02] * @Lucie runs a hand through her hair. "Now all we have to do is, what, haul it through the forest with us?"
[16:03] <@Henrietta> "It does seem... remarkably preserved," Henrietta says haltingly. "Rudy, perhaps Myra would like to do the honors?"
[16:04] <@Henrietta> And just because it looks safe doesn't mean they won't be accosted by anyone, so Henrietta casts another protective spell.
[16:04] <@Henrietta> roll 1d10+5
[16:04] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d10+5 and gets 10." [1d10=5]
[16:04] <@Rudy> "Uh-huh, gimme a sec," he replies, starting the arduous ritual of returning Myra to his side.
[16:04] <@Lucie> With some apparent distaste, Lucie kneels down to prop the corpse up, wondering a little why it wasn't made into a puppet like the other bodies here.
[16:04] * Joins: NeremWorld (Nerem@pool-71-170-107-199.dllstx.fios.verizon.net)
[16:05] * @Henrietta calls upon Detect Magic to take a better look of her surroundings.
[16:06] <@Ebiris> The creepers seem to form a circle around it, about a foot away from the body without going any closer. For itself the body is a mere corpse, skin papery and flaking at the slightest touch, little sign of what once must have been a stoutly built man. His clothes are filthy and rotting, except for the furred head-dress which looks entirely new and fresh, as if recently skinned from a healthy stag.
[16:06] * Merc-zzz is now known as Merc
[16:07] -> *Henrietta* You're momentarily blinded from seeing the stag lord's corpse. It radiates overwhelming magic, the head-dress that is.
[16:07] * @Lucie stands up. "I dunno, did our guy say he needed the whole body, or you figure the headdress here would be good enough?"
[16:07] <@Henrietta> "It's... good enough," Henrietta staggers, a hand over her eyes. "I saw something I shouldn't have."
[16:08] <@Lucie> "Huh?" Lucie eyes Henri curiously. "You know we have to ask now, right?"
[16:08] <@Rudy> "No, the last time we asked, we found out we're all damned to some undying guy. I'm fine not knowing!"
[16:08] <@Lucie> "You'd rather find out when you die and wind up some dead god's slave or whatever?"
[16:09] <@Henrietta> Keeping her eyes off the Stag Lord's corpse, Henrietta decides to climb out. Surely, Rudy will lend a helping hand!
[16:09] <@Ebiris> Val obediently follows Henrietta, his work done!
[16:09] <@Rudy> "I figured I was going to hell anyway, right? It's probably a step up!" Rudy is willing to help Henri get up the rocks!
[16:10] * @Lucie shrugs, grabs the head-dress before climbing out herself.
[16:11] <@Lucie> Lucie also finds herself unable to restrain her curiosity, and examines the surroundings with her own magical senses before they leave.
[16:11] <@Ebiris> As soon as Lucie pulls the horned head-dress from the corpse, a ghostly blue light flares from it! Flames of the same ethereal hue immediately spread across the vines, burning them up in heatless flames that race along the trail of vines hugging the floor and out of the catacombs, rapidly burning them away to nothingness!
[16:11] -> *Lucie* The flames are strongly magical, and you're nearly blinded by the head-dress which radiates overwhelming magic.
[16:12] * @Lucie winces from the glare emanating from the object in her hands! She pauses a moment to try and identify what it's signature might mean.
[16:12] <@Henrietta> "It is, in a sense, funny that you should mention the Undying Emperor," Henrietta muses. "That headdress contains a magical power that is surely equal to him in strength!"
[16:13] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+9 failcraftin'
[16:13] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+9 failcraftin' and gets 29." [1d20=20]
[16:13] <@Rudy> "Huh. You think we should keep it?" asks Rudy, after a moment's thought.
[16:13] <@Henrietta> "I don't see how it can hurt."
[16:14] -> *Lucie* This is old magic, primal and wild... it's utterly beyond you. Yet at the same time, it's curiously obliging, sharing its secrets freely now that you care to look...
[16:16] <@Lucie> After a long moment's silence. "Can we? If that dead mook wants it, I say we just punch him in the face. But then, I've been saying that all day."
[16:17] <@Henrietta> "Seeing the body is enough, isn't it? So I think we can," Henrietta assures her.
[16:17] <@Rudy> "You guys are the brains, I guess?" replies Rudy, sending Myra out to gathering up the body.
[16:17] <@Ebiris> Myra gathers the body without complaint...
[16:18] <@Lucie> "I guess we are, aren't we? As the brains, IS ay we get the hell out of here now."
[16:18] <@Henrietta> "Why, yes! The only thing left is to meet back with Liamae!"
[16:19] <@Ebiris> Leaving the catacombs, the group finds the village now utterly free of those horrid red vines, not even ash remaining of them. Liamae is shortly found later by the horses, the dark-skinned sorceress perking up and smiling despite the grisly corpse. "Glad you guys came back, I was getting bored. Is that our bandit king?" she asks, peering at the body dragged by Myra, thankfully upwind of the hor
