[20:32] <Kotono> Several more days of travel pass. These are uneventful days of training and preparation, passing by in a busy blur. But soon enough - as Ithea guides Aurora this time? Far ahead it can be seen - looming in open Air, a great big field of rock, stone and earth. LIke a hole-filled mountain, bits of rock crumbling away from the edges and falling. It's still quite distant, the endless horizon letting

[20:34] * Ithea continues to navigate the fortress closer, though she asks Elena to let the others know if they haven't already noticed it looming off in the distance.
[20:36] <Afina> Upon hearing that Afina thinks now's a good time to arrange some reconaissance so they can plan their assault. For that she enlists Lief along with a few more stealthy pixies and air elementals so they can fly ahead of the fortress to scout the terrain and surface defences of Earthfall and report back so they can consider their response.
[20:38] * Jaela decides to take position by the front gate as she receives the announcement. If anyone should try to strike at them, it would be there.
[20:39] * Willim will join Jaela as well! With their combined might, nobody is getting through that gate!
[20:43] <Kotono> Lief and a few other pixies and elementals are sent out! As Aurora flies ahead they depart away, the Earthfall slowly rising in size and closeness! About an hour of this passes, before Lief and the others return through the gates! With a nod to those by the gates, "It's guarded," Lief says shortly, "I saw orges with clubs and axes, dire wolves just inside tunnels with goblin support. There were
[20:43] <Kotono> several dug-in crannies where humanoids wearing red had bows at the ready."
[20:44] <Jaela> "That red something banner group, I guess?" Jaela muses. "How many guards, all in all?"
[20:44] <Kotono> "Hundreds," Lief shakes his head, "We didn't get too close due to the numbers. They have an entire army if those numbers mean anything."
[20:45] <Afina> "So do we," Afina announces as she falls down from the gatehouse, not quite touching the ground. "What about entrances or fortifications?"
[20:46] * Ithea decides to stop bringing the fortress closer, figuring they're close enough, and deciding to go join the others. If they want to bring Aurora even closer, it's not like that would take much more effort.
[20:48] <Kotono> "There's lots of entrances. Some have been buried in boulders and collapsed, but I still saw over a dozen," Lief smiles a little bit, "I doubt they can seriously stop an entry attack. There's too many points to defend."
[20:49] <Jaela> "Do you think they will attack if we come closer?"
[20:50] * Ithea chooses to appear at this time, hearing Jaela's question. "A good question given I just stopped the fortress for the moment," she comments.
[20:50] <Kotono> "I don't know," Lief shakes his head, fluttering in the air, "Assuming they're defending, I doubt it...but who knows? You could argue te best defense is a good offense."
[20:51] <Afina> "If they attack it's to our advantage - they can bleed on our defences rather than the other way around. We can either provoke them into that as a full strength clash, or go all in to overwhelm them piecemeal before they can rally," Afina suggests. "I'm for attacking, personally. If we divide into three or four armies with one to defend Aurora and the rest to attack... we need to have everyone
[20:51] <Afina> ready before we get closer, so lets decide now."
[20:52] <Jaela> "Let's come to them with the Aurora," Jaela agrees, "and then launch an attack once we're in melee range. Either we wipe out the defenders in the area, or they turn and flee."
[20:55] <Kotono> "How are the armies going to be organized?" Lief pipes at that, "Who fights with who?"
[20:56] <Jaela> "We didn't have time to do much with the locals, so we should have Drena lead them, and someone of the old group with him to coordinate. As for the rest, we've had time to work together plenty, didn't we?"
[21:04] <Kotono> With that four, groups gather! The fourth group takes up defensive positions within Aurora, while the other three armies prepare to unleash...OOC: Go ahead, guys.
[21:08] <Afina> Having agreed on the strategy and dispositions, Afina leads the first army out to fly ahead but at the same speed as Aurora, not wanting an army to be bottlenecked by their own gates when the attack comes. The others should do the same of course, with the first and second armies on the flanks and the third at the centre. "Remember, this rabble are nothing to the devils. We've faced worse before
[21:08] <Afina> and we'll face worse again," she... encourages, in her own way.
[21:10] <Jaela> In the end, it is all for show. For their troops to gain confidence. With this rabble in their path, they don't even need to resort to their soldiers to wipe them out and advance. Jaela draws Val'Finnegan and awaits the fools that would try to face against them.
[21:10] <Kotono> A cheer rises up from that, agreement as the armies position. "This is just a warm up," Adrian calls over the noise, "For Lifasa!" Amid that an eagle's dragon-roar echos, Arrel sending his agreement.
[21:12] * Willim is once again carrying Ithea on his left shoulder, silently following along behind Afina. He looks grim and imposing, ready to beat several hundred creatures to death.
[21:13] <Jaela> "Huh." Jaela blinks her eye. "Annalise's sayin' that some of the wolves belong to her. Those with red eyes or somesuch. They won't attack us, so we don't need to attack those."
[21:14] * Ithea raises an eyebrow at that, but nods. "Red eyes. Got it."
[21:14] <Afina> "Pass that along," Afina suggests since her voice doesn't really carry as well.
[21:15] * Willim grabs the nearest soldier and tells him the news, ordering him to pass it along.
[21:15] * Jaela commandeers several air elementals to do that for her throughout their armies. The message is clear; if any wolves have red eyes, don't attack them unless attacked first.
[21:16] <Kotono> With that, the great armies advance! Ahead looms Earthfall, bigger and bigger! Ten minutes away, then five! At this there is a great cry, seeming to come all out from Earthfall! Dozens and dozens of cave entrances can be seen ahead, and each one erupts out! They take to the air, charging out - ogres, savage clubs and sharp axes! Great wolves twice the size as normal, crowned with ridges of bone
[21:16] <Kotono> and spiked elbows. Behind them goblins follow, armed with short bladed swords and slings. A moment later the united twangs of bowstrings are heard, as...OOC: Okay, enemies are still about a few thousand feet away but starting to charge. Go ahead and direct your army while the others do their thing and then we'll get closer to it.
[21:18] <Jaela> Greater Heroism is invoked as they are five minutes out. Nothing more is needed for this opening act.
[21:19] <Afina> A few thousand feet means those arrows are wasted. "Hold fast, they can't hit at this range," Afina calls, her voice soft despite carrying somewhat. She keeps some guard up, but there's no need to be unduly afraid.
[21:26] * Ithea positions herself near the other refugees from Lifasa grouped with their army, and waits for the enemy to be close enough to act.
[21:30] <Kotono> With this the forces race on! Closer and closer them come, two tides coming at each other! 500ft away now, the roar of defiance from the ogres and goblins echoing in the empty spaces of Air! OOC: Let's roll init here for reference.

[23:21] <Afina> "Everyone on me!" Afina calls, the large tunnel blasted by the red commander representing the largest and hopefully most direct entrance within. "Heal up and regroup then we go in!"
[23:22] <Ithea> "Follow her lead, I'll keep any stragglers still wanting a fight off you as you move!" Ithea calls out to those around her, starting to move towards Afina.
[23:23] <Jaela> "Accept their surrender and bring them in," Jaela orders two of her charges, indicating the smarter of the ogres around them that knew when to quit. "The rest of us will advance!"
[23:23] <Kotono> As she prepares a wolf comes up to Afina. It sits on its haunches in the air, and from it Annalise's voice is heard. "Lovely beasts, aren't they? I say we keep them." It looms over Afina and is big enough to shadow Ithea, yet it smiles with a strangely benign, temptress look somehow.
[23:24] <Kotono> Misalea flies along as well, staying with Jaela, as others go to take surrenders.
[23:24] * Willim snaps up a couple of larger chunks of the red mage woman, tossing a few in his pack as he gnaws on an arm. Still running with the rest of the group.
[23:25] <Afina> "No argument from me," Afina replies, waiting for their lines to reform before she leads the push into Earthfall proper, hoping a path carved out by an enemy eager to meet them won't be well defended.
[23:25] * Ithea makes a face at Willim's action, but says nothing on the matter, deciding to focus on moving after Afina and keeping their people safe.
[23:27] * Jaela bolsters her defenses, as well as those of Misalea. It seems like her job is to bring in the rear and ensure they don't get flanked. Should they come across a difficult enemy, she'll be sure to come closer to the front lines then.

[20:12] <Kotono> On passing into EArthfall proper, you feel the faint, almost fading tug of gravity on you once more. It's light, just barely keeping you standing instead of floating. The tunnel ahead is fairly wide, enough to walk 4 abreast. It's dark, multicolored stones, banded into various shades.  As you walk in, a voice sounds in each of your minds, 'This is your only warning - turn away from this foolish

[20:13] <Jaela> "That would sound more impressive if we didn't just roll over them," Jaela mutters with a snort, continuing to lead her little squad.

For all that she'd be much happier sneaking in and assassinating the leaders one by one herself, she needs experience at leading an army herself.

[20:17] <Kotono> There is no obvious reply, silence your answer. For a few more minutes you advance ahead, before you come to a four way intersection. The path continues ahead straight, with a branch to the left and the right. The left path heads upwards and narrows, the right path going up but not particularly narrowing. Above the ceiling gives way to a natural chute, narrowly going straight up.

[21:54] <Afina> "They must have been waiting till our attention was split. In truth I expected Dana's father would make this sort of move first... how well did we fare?" the fairy asks, her green eyes flitting over Aurora's courtyard for sight of non-devil corpses.
[21:57] <Kotono> There are a few here and there, "Some losses. We were able to retreat into Aurora since the first battle went so well and all was clear outside," Elder Magi Tepen says, as Willim returns. "They tried to assail Aurora," A thin smile showson his face, "They failed."

[22:01] <Afina> "When the first devils attacked the Gloaming Forest they were weak. They did not understand what they faced, they were lost and confused easily by our defences and fell easily to our blades and spells," Afina comments ruefully. "The second wave was not weak, and knew what to expect. Knew how to defeat us. This could end the same way if we don't remain on guard."
[22:03] <Kotono> "Be it a battle today or a battle in the future," The Elder Magi murmurs, "First the offer of friendship, now this attack. Perhaps these moves are just the opening salvo."
[22:05] <Afina> "Earthfall should be ours within the hour with the forces arrayed against it. We'll stay here and keep Aurora safe," Afina decides, going to take position by the gate and help with any last mopping up.

Here you come to a dead end - the entrance to what looks to be a vast, vast cave. However, the entire entrance is shielded with a wall of glimmering rainbow light, intense and beautiful to look at.

[23:36] <Kotono> Crystal says nothing, giving Adrian a long look before startingt o tend to Hope.

[23:37] <Kotono> "Got one of them, the other..." Adrian shrugs, "Tried to knock him out, couldn't manage it."
[23:37] * Jaela snorts. "They talked about being righteous and then the next enemy they allied with was an undead abomination or something. Whatever, s'long as you think you're in the right it's okay."
