020.1 "I kept focusing on the rock and this time...the bad devils went away!"

[22:15] <Kotono> In the aftermath of the Earthfall battle, forces are tended to and injuries healed. Jaela, Ithea and Willim happen to be in the meeting room right now, listening to Elder Magi Tepen go over the battle report. As you listen to various figures, the portal into the room admits two more. Adrian enters, a small young girl with him. She's human and can't be more than 8 years old. Her hands are held
[22:15] <Kotono> together, a faint light coming from within them. "Sorry to interrupt," Adrian clears his throat, "But this needs attention."
[22:16] <Jaela> "What, healing?" Jaela asks, ready to provide it.
[22:16] * Willim looks over at Adrian, a glazed look leaving his eyes. "What?"
[22:17] <Ithea> "Hello, and who are you?" Ithea asks with a smile as she moves closer to the two that just entered, squatting down to be at eye level as she talks to the girl.
[22:18] <Kotono> The girl comes forward, "I'm Carly," She introduces herself, "Um, I came from Lifasa, and so did Daddy." At this Adrian speaks up, "She's the daughter of one of the refugee survivors. Go ahead and tell them what happened, Carly."
[22:20] * Ithea waits for Carly to speak!
[22:21] <Willim> Idly chewing some unideintifiable meat from the cafeteria, Willim looks at the girl wiht interest.
[22:21] <Kotono> Carly goes on at that prodding, "Um, after we got to our water home, Daddy gave me a rock. He said it was from, um, Lifasa home. He told me to be a good girl and keep it with me, and if I wanted to cry to hold onto the rock and push all the tears into it." After a moment, "Um, when there was the big fight yesterday, I...you won't be mad at me, will you?"
[22:22] <Jaela> "It'd be pretty unlikely," Jaela assures her. And she would be ready to enforce that, too, trusting in Adrian's judgement. "So what happened?"
[22:24] <Kotono> "Um...I snuck to a wind to watch." Carly's entire body seems to draw into itself, "They were there! The bad devils and..." As Adrian puts a hand on her shoulder, "I didn'twant to lose Daddy, too. I kept focusing on the rock and this time...the bad devils went away! And, and, the rock started glowing like this." AT this Carly opens her hand. Within is a small stone, glowing with a soft white
[22:24] <Kotono> light. It hovers in the air, inches above her tiny hands. "Um, Daddy said I should show it to Adrian, and Adrian said I should show it to you."
[22:25] <Jaela> "Hold still a sec," Jaela requests, casting two spells in succession.
[22:25] <Jaela> roll 1d20+25 spellcraft, GH
[22:25] * Hatbot --> "Jaela rolls 1d20+25 spellcraft, GH and gets 39." [1d20=14]
[22:25] * Willim blinks. "It's...a glowing rock?"
[22:27] <Jaela> "Can I see it?" Jaela asks next, holding her hand out for the stone.
[22:27] <Ithea> "So what is it then?" Ithea asks curiously as she stands up and moves a bit further away, letting Jaela examine the rock.
[22:28] <Kotono> Taking the stone, Carly comes forward and places it in Jaela's hand. It floats above her hand, in place.
[22:29] * Jaela raises the stone until it is a few inches away from Carly's forehead, and then gives it a sideways flick to get it to circle the little girl's head slowly. "Pretty neat. You made an ioun stone, congrats! Maybe old man Tepen can give you a few lessons?"
[22:30] <Kotono> "That's incredible for someone your age," Elder Magi Tepen comes forward, kneeling by the little girl. "Good girl," he murmurs, "Carly, I'll talk to your father about lessons. You clearly have potential."
[22:30] <Ithea> "...an...an ioun stone? Oh wow, that's pretty impressive, Carly!" Ithea says, her smile widening, agreeing with Tepen.
[22:30] <Kotono> Smiling and giggling at that, "Um...what's potential?"
[22:30] <Jaela> "You can cast spells that make devils go away."
[22:31] * Willim scratches his head, peering at the stone. "Magic stone then? Against devils?"
[22:32] <Kotono> "Precisely, I believe," Elder Magic Tepen stares at the stone, murmuring a few arcane words. He smothers a yawn after as he peers at it, "That's exactly what happened, yes. Certainly you have talent...and your father chose well with symbolism. Symbolism in magic is important."
[22:34] <Kotono> Beaming at all the praise, "Um," The little girl plucks thes tone from the air, "Daddy and Adrian said I should give it to all of you for um...the good of the army."
[22:37] * Willim nods. "We can always use more tools to foil the magic of the devils."
[22:37] * Jaela would feel bad taking things from a little girl, even if it weren't her link to their ruined home. She decides to abstain from responding.
[22:40] <Ithea> "Well, that'd certainly be very nice, Carly," Ithea says with a smile. "Do you mind giving it to us? Your daddy and Adrian -are- right, this really would help protect the army."
[22:40] <Kotono> "Okay." Coming forward she places it into Ithea's hands, "Take good care of it, okay?"
[22:44] <Ithea> "We will, promise!" Ithea answers honestly.
