Oh, I know the ending was bullshit, but yeah...annoyed.
Well, Goodbye.

It's so sad seeing Kai Leng prance about with his weeaboo samurai magic in a world of railguns and telekinetics, being justifiably owned in actual combat but prevailing against all in cut-scenes and having NPCs claim that he's 'worse than a Reaper'. Satisfying as the renegade interrupt is, it doesn't make up for subjecting us to his bullshit all the previous times.

If they wanted to give Shepard a rival then an indoctrinated Miranda, or even better an indoctrinated and lazarused Virmire casualty would have been far more satisfying. Kai Leng just reeks of being somebody's pet Mary Sue.

edit: Also, his email? It reads like a 10 year old wrote it. All simple declarative sentences, not even a comma in sight. I hope that's one of the writers being in on the joke and subtly mocking him, but that could be giving too much credit. If he'd even managed a haiku or something he'd have become a bit more tolerable.

That said,
Spoiler: ShowHide
a resurrected and indoctrinated Ashley or Kaiden
would have been the best Dragon for this game. Pity they didn't think of it.

Well, if we're going spoilers...

He's intolerable from the moment he first appears and mockingly declares a 3 (and then 4) on one, just barely a fair fight, casually takes waltzes in and nearly kills all the citadel leaders.  You guys are some of the best badasses that exist in the universe, not just in a 'you're killing everyone' sense, but in an informed: you went ahead and are ranked one of the most difficult levels of space marine there is and are a war hero...Before the whole shit started hitting the fan and you took out Reapers in one on one combat.  And he runs in that encounter?  Really?  Because 2 cops show up?  He's not afraid of 4 marines but 2 cops make a difference?

They couldn't have...I dunno, had him leading a full squad of guys that outnumbered you and were beefy?  Playing up to Cerberus strengths of having dozens of ridiculously equipped people?  They had to have basically a Deus Ex hero parody walking around and beating everyone?

At the point he shows up, you've got 3 reapers on your personal kill count.  By the time you fight him, you've added a fourth, and have potentially put together a giant intergalactic army and taken out thousands of cerberus operatives.  What the HELL were they thinking?

And yeah, the Stress stuff was ridiculous too.  Shepard moping because they lost a VI?  The whole crew acting like it would save Thessia if only you had beaten that one dude?  REALLY?  cuz that planet was already a wipe by the first moment they told you to go there.

News flash: If you have a dozen reapers already on your planet killing everyone, then it is too late to go build something to save it.

Same goes with Earth.  I agree with the pessimistic VI here.  If you got giant warships already sitting on your home planets, it is too late to build a superweapon.  The disaster has already hit.

He's definitely someone's marty stu.  I can't see any other reason why he's  there pulling off the shit he does and it pisses me off that they don't even put him as smart or prepared about it, it just  shows as cutscene immunity in every case.  "Hey look, you are 6 feet away, and I'm an expert marine and I cannot hit you with a powerful pistol?"

They don't even give him invisibility?  I mean I have it.  The geth have it.  Why doesn't Mr. Samurai Bullshit have it? It would actually make sense.
Well, Goodbye.

Jon

He has a tactical cloak, which he used in the assassination scene. Maybe he had to recharge it? I dunno.

Mass Effect 3 Spoilers in the videos.

This guy has made a 3-part video critique of Mass Effect 3, mostly focusing on the literary and storytelling aspects.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiN8gL40d84 Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlU1AtindEY Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qa81mq3744 Part 3

Yeah... well, I find these kind of critique videos a guilty pleasure to watch, regardless of if I've consumed the content the critique is about.  And whether I agree with the critique either.  I still enjoy them.  :d

With that said I think he brings up a lot of good points.  Discus!
I think we live our lives in other people's hearts and minds. Alone by ourselves we're not very much good at all. But when we let someone else in with their stories and all their sights and sounds and songs and smells and sensations, we suddenly start filling our shelves and boxes with books and books of them and building up our libraries.

Jon

too long, did not watch.

(That's over an hour of video, man!)

Brian

Yeah, seriously.  That is way, way too much complaint. o_o

Man, I loved the ending I got.  It was amazing.  We killed all the reapers, I got made an admiral and saluted by Anderson, and then said Fuck You All, and retired instantly.

We kept the normandy though.  I mean what else were we going to do, Ditch Edi and Joker?  Naw, so we went on a honeymoon/retirement tour of the galaxy, hanging out at all the really cool places we saved from extinction.  I did not see the Tali Zora vas Normandy and Garrus hookup coming.  It was pretty awesome.  For whatever reason, they dropped James entirely from the ending sequence.  He didn't even show up.  Kinda sloppy?  Guess it would suck for James fans.  Either way, Garrus looked cool in his cheesy hawaiian shirt, Tali having an arm around him.  Shepard was making out with Liara on the beach.  Joker and Edi were dressed for Safari, and I guess were planning to go check out the woods?  Dunno, the game decided to just cut up to spaceships flying far overhead to distant worlds.

Really, seemed entirely alright.  I dunno what all the fuss is about.    I'm glad it didn't go the route of Dragon Age 1 and 2, where victory was a faux disaster where the world around you had already been ravaged and ruined, death was practically a certainty, and all but your closest friends could betray you and there was nothing you could do about it.

Because that would be lame.

Well, Goodbye.

Jon

Joker hiking in the woods? Well, I guess if he falls and breaks all his limbs, Edi can carry him back.

Dracos

Yeah, I suppose so.  It was a bit weird, but hey, sometimes games are a bit skippy with their endings.
Well, Goodbye.
