038.6 Afina and Muirfinn

[23:24] <Kotono> There's a sensation of riding forward and then? The two of you stand just before Aurora's gates! The air here is hot, the scent of cooked flesh in the air. The gates are open, though, and nothing looks awry.
[23:26] * Muirfinn raises an eyebrow at the temperature anomoly, but heads inside regardless. "Now to find the others. Elena!"
[23:27] <Kotono> Elena appears, "Hi, you're alive!" She squeaks, "Tannin told us what happened after Afina and Simmer melted that demon down. Hold on!"
[23:27] <Muirfinn> "Ah good, Tannin made it." Muirfinn looks relieved.
[23:28] <Muirfinn> "Wait, melted the demon?"
[23:29] <Kotono> Elena blinks and then reappears a few seconds later. "What was that?"
[23:29] <Kotono> Vivantha is meanwhile really rather busy looking about, eyes widening hugely.
[23:29] <Muirfinn> "You said Afina and Simmer melted the demon? Already? How did they find it?"
[23:30] <Kotono> "Oh that? It came to us. Followed Tannin," Elena elaborates, "So they went out and used enough fire to turn it into oozy ash." Waving a hand, "Smelled something awful, but it died."
[23:31] <Kotono> Vivantha immediately bows her head, "Rest well, sisters. You are avenged."

[23:14] * Afina inhales thoughtfully at that. "So he would have been deposited to any plane, potentially. Along with one of the lillend? But it's a plane that can't be divined even by a spell of such power as what you just performed. Without facts, then, any good guesses? Places in the planes that fit the description?"
[23:18] <Kotono> "Many," Sage Vul'lath says, "I believe this refers to the Infinite Staircase. A lesser known transitive plane." Folding his hands together, "It is said to connect to every realm, even demiplanes, if one can but find the door to it. So...by itself, this narrows down nothing."
[23:20] <Afina> Nodding again, "Yes, it's Tannin's preferred way of travelling around. He took Muirfinn on his latest excursion before running afoul of that demon. Hmmm... do you think a Sending might work where a divination would fail?"
[23:25] <Kotono> "Possibly, but I doubt it," Sage Vul'lath says. "The sort of wards that stop divination are usually coupled with means of ceasing communication as well. Assuming that the barrier is the act of an intelligent being, which isn't certain."
[23:27] <Kotono> Elena blinks in, "Oh, Muirfinn's back," he says, "Since I noticed you were looking for him. Courtyard and heading in." Then Elena is gone again, just like that.
[23:27] <Afina> "Then what's to be done? Hmm... the lillend know the secrets of the staircase better than any, perhaps they have a means to know where one vanished-" she stops and then laughs. "Well! Lets go see him and find out what story he has to tell!"
[23:28] <Kotono> Sage Vul'lath scowls, as Simmer grins, "That WAS easy!"

[23:32] <Kotono> Meanwhile you can see a rather familiar, speedy pixie approaching, with Simmer jogging to keep up.
[23:32] <Muirfinn> "It...followed Tannin? After all we did? Just like that? Tenacious monster. Glad it's dead." Muirfinn nods, turning to Vivantha. "Well, it seems one of our generals went and took care of the beast. Your sisters are indeed avenged. What will you do now?"
[23:32] <Muirfinn> He waves the two pyrofey over.
[23:34] <Afina> "Muirfinn!" Afina calls, stopping before the reptilian pair, "I'm glad to see you, we were worried after what Tannin reported, and divinations failed to place you. Where were you? And who's your friend?"
[23:39] * Muirfinn turns to Afina, "We rolled off the side of the Infinite Stair and were tossed about, landed in a place called Union. Lots of Mercane, who tended to our wounds as well they could. They said that it was a place of their own design, and allowed no divination magic to penetrate it. Unsurprising, considering the truly massive amount of wealth there. They called it a 'bank.' I had to agree to some concessions for them to treat our wounds, and you may not be pleased with me when I discuss them with you. They sent us back here, and I was hoping to ask one or two of you to assist us in slaying that demon, but I understand that the two of you handled that quite nicely."
[23:40] <Muirfinn> "This, by the way, is Vivantha, one of the lillend who helped keep me alive while I fought the demon."
[23:44] <Afina> "He burned well," Afina agreed. "Alright, I don't know about banks, but we have a mercane here we can ask. Go and see Tannin in the hospital? It'll make him feel better to see you, I think, he was in a rotten state when he ran in. Then meet me in the war room, I'll round up Filbrez and the other generals to hear about these concessions. Vivantha, you're welcome to Aurora's hospitality
[23:44] <Afina> while you're here."
