Have you tried Mibbit, by any chance? See if that might connect in the worst case that you can't with your normal client?

Okay, so I've tried mibbit in case mIRC can't get working. And...mibbit works at least, but I can see why this is a "worst case scenario" thing. I've had it up for less then 5 minutes and miss actual mIRC already. >_<
