052.4 Afina, Jaela and the CoC

[22:31] <Kotono> "Right!" Elena says, as meanwhile Afina appears from the portal. "Meow! Anything else, Jaela?"
[22:32] <Jaela> "Don't meow, please."
[22:32] <Afina> Fluttering into Jaela's opulent suite, Afina flies over but waits until she's done with Elena.
[22:32] <Kotono> Elena slumps and vanishes.
[22:33] <Afina> "Hello Jaela, Hanna. I'm glad to see you're both back, were your journeys productive?" the fairy asks once the poor blue girl vanishes.
[22:34] * Jaela waves at Afina. "Not on my end, but Mom says the robe's all properly befriended."
[22:34] <Afina> "Oh, what went wrong for you?"
[22:35] <Jaela> "Nothing went for me, wrong or right. I visited some places but they were closed or it was the wrong time or it was another person who was actually doing something." Jaela shrugs. "Mirajane had fun on Lunia, though, so there's that."
[22:36] <Afina> "Well you didn't lose out on anything you sought in particular so there's that," Afina consoles. "But how do you feel about competing for glorious prizes in a tournament for Air's greatest warriors?"
[22:37] <Jaela> "I'd feel bad for my competition."
[22:39] <Afina> "That's the spirit," Afina laughs briefly, "It's a three on three format, so you'd be with Lief and I. And you should know that Mirima, Misalea, and Canderella are entering as well, so you can start feeling bad for them."
[22:40] * Jaela grins. "Got it. Let me fight Misalea or Candy instead of Mirima if we end up facing each other, but other than that we should be solid?" She glances over at Hanna. "Since you're tired from your own trip, how do you feel about looking over Mirajane for a bit?"
[22:42] <Kotono> "Why not?" Hanna says, "I wasn't planning on getting up for a little while anyway."
[22:42] <Jaela> "Nice. When are we leaving, Afina?":
[22:43] <Afina> "It's not for a couple of days so there's no rush," Afina shakes her head. "I'll go tell Lief we've got our third. Just think, if we're lucky maybe another traitor will try and kill us after we win!" she laughs again before flying off.

[23:01] <Kotono> The day of the tournament arrives. Two groups gather - the Graceful Blow and Afina's team. Lief is fluttering around as yo ucome out, "...and then we're going to slam them down!" he cheers, "We'll beat lal of them!"
[23:03] * Jaela waves at the Graceful Blow girls.
[23:03] <Afina> "The final match better be us six," Afina declares as they make ready to leave.
[23:05] <Kotono> "Assuming we're no tin the same brackets," Canderella pipes up, "But we'll see."
[23:08] <Afina> "That would be anti-climactic," Afina shakes her head, "Anyway, lets go. Jaela, can you get us there by plane shifting?"
[23:09] <Jaela> "Where's the destination, anyway?"
[23:10] <Afina> "The Eye of the Storm Arena."
[23:10] <Kotono> "The Eye," Lief begins, but Afina beats him to it.
[23:10] <Jaela> "Sure, let me try," Jaela responds, working her magic.
[23:15] <Kotono> With a pair of plane shifts, the grou appears in front of an arena of air. It is classical styled, save made of pure gusts and breezes. Air elementals of all sorts are filing in. Signs hang over the arches. Most say spectators, but one says contestants.
[23:16] * Jaela starts flying towards the arch dedicated to contestants.
[23:16] <Afina> Likewise!
[23:20] <Kotono> Heading in, the six find a single human sized air elemental standing there. "Contestants?" he asks with a voice lik ea sigh of wind. "Two teams?"
[23:22] <Afina> "Yes, us three," Afina points to herself and Jaela and Lief, "And those three."
[23:28] <Kotono> A nod, "Are you familiar with the rules?"
[23:28] <Jaela> "This would be a good time to go over them."
[23:29] * Afina shakes her head, "Just that it's a three on three battle."
[23:32] <Kotono> "The rules are as follows. No non-permanent magical effects are allowed on you before the match. This isn't a wizard duel, layering on spell after spell isn't why we're here." So explaining with a vague gesture, "There is time for one spell before each match begins, this time is allowed to cast one spell or other similar ability of your choice to protect or augment yourself. Summonings are
[23:32] <Kotono> banned, and teleportation results in a disqualification. Any effects that make flying impossible will result in a disqualification at the judge's discretion. All battles are to the knockout. Due to enchantments on the arena, there is no risk of death. You are not allowed to sacavenge or otherwise pillage your defeated opponents, nor may you take battle trophies from them. After each round
[23:32] <Kotono> you will be provided some healing and you are allowed to heal yourself with whatever means you possess in between matches."
[23:34] <Jaela> "There's no point asking the opponent to give up? The knock out is the only way to decide a match?" Jaela asks. "I also figure that you're banning spells like mage armor, magic vestment and magic weapon?"
[23:35] <Afina> "I have some spells active right now, is it acceptable if I dispel all but one and count that as my pre-match spell, or does it have to be cast immediately before?"
[23:35] <Kotono> "A competitor can surrender," The elemental says. "Those spells would all be banned, yes." A nod to Afina, "They must all be dispelled."
[23:37] <Afina> Annoyed at moment of prescience being a waste of her highest level magic now, Afina nonetheless dispels everything she has active on herself right now.
[23:37] * Jaela muses about the rules for a moment longer before asking, "If my armor heals me up a bit or helps me cast better, is that okay?"
[23:37] <Kotono> "Magical items are not covered in the rule and are fair game," He replies.
[23:40] <Jaela> "Right." Jaela closes her eye and lets the glow about her fade. Next, she is forced to cycle through her collection of spears and lances to remove the greater magic weapon enchantment on them, but that is really a minor concern. "Permanency sounds like it's okay. What about contingency?" she wonders, finally done with the arduous task.

[19:41] <Koaway> "That's banned too," The elemental says.
[19:41] <Jaela> "Fun." Another dispel takes care of that. "How are the fights spaced? One after the other, or hours apart?"
[19:45] <Kotono> "There are gaps between each one," So it is explained, "As the brackets work through each other."
[19:47] * Jaela settles on Gae Trocaire and Brokion in the meantime, nodding to herself. "Right. I'm ready. Afina? Lief?"
[19:48] * Afina nods contentedly.
[19:49] <Kotono> "I'm ready," Lief pipes up!
[19:49] <Kotono> Meanwhile the Graceful Blow is lead by Mirima, "We've heard enough. We're ready too."
[19:53] <Kotono> "This way," The elemental rises, "This group first," A nod to Jaela and company.
[19:54] * Jaela returns the nod, following the elemental's directions.
[19:55] <Afina> "See you on the other side," Afina tells the graceful blow trio, heading in.
[19:57] <Kotono> You are lead to a room of opaque wind-walls, several couches and benches dotted about, as well as several mirrors. "You'll wait here to be called." he instructs, "If you have any questions, an escort will be stationed outside."
[19:58] <Jaela> "Sure thing," Jaela agrees, taking to a couch. She glances over at Lief once they are alone, asking, "You sure this is legit, right?"
[19:58] <Afina> "So we can't watch other fights in progress?" Afina asks disappointedly.
[20:01] <Kotono> "Oh that?" Gesturing at the far wall, a sudden view takes it over! You can see the vast, windswept arena in it, "Enjoy." Once he's stepped out and done, "Of course it is!" he says, "If not, we'll just have to instruct them in better manners." Noddingly easily as he goes to perch next to Jaela, "What could go wrong?"
[20:01] * Afina goes to flutter by the window to see who's fighting now. Be good to get an idea of the competition.
[20:02] * Jaela snorts at the question, looking outside to see the battles.
[20:04] <Kotono> Right now it's two groups of air elementals. It largely seems to be a battle of wind against wind - the elementals are much larger than humans and moving wildly with the winds. "It's not like another traitor is going to be so dumb as to show up here," Lief remarks, "I'm not expecting anything too hard."
[20:05] <Jaela> "Maybe we could ask the hosts about the enchantments they're using? Those could come in handy at the Aurora's training rooms."
[20:05] <Afina> "I almost hope one does," Afina comments. "Also I hope not everyone here's an air elemental."
[20:06] <Jaela> "Yeah, no kidding. It's a pain to fight elementals."
[20:09] <Kotono> "What's so bad about them?" As you watch you see the match draw to a close. One of the elementals goes down and then the other two, resulting in the other elementals winning. The cheering of the crowd is heard as the winners walk off and the losers are dragged off.
[20:10] <Jaela> "Takes ages, and they're resistant to most things I have in store. So do devils, but I actually trained to kick their asses."
[20:10] <Afina> "They're harder to injure than things with kidneys and spines," Afina responds. "Also they tend to look the same. I'd like some variety."
[20:13] <Kotono> "Oh," Lief murmurs, as the next opponents come out! It's a group of air elementals on one side and - oh! It' sthe Graceful Blow on the other!
[20:14] <Afina> "They're off to a quick start," Afina comments.
[20:14] * Jaela winces. "Candy alone can probably fry them, since she can cut loose here."
[20:16] <Afina> "She might refrain to keep the best for later rounds, though."
[20:16] <Kotono> "Y-" Lief begins as the battle is joined! A cheer drowns him out as winds begin to blow - before a blast of lightning sends one of the elementals back, Misalea and Mirima slicing into them seconds later! Canderella waves her sword around like a wand, throbbing with electric power! Lief whistles, "Took the initiatve right from them."
[20:17] <Jaela> "Come to think of it, since it's a group battle and all," Jaela muses. "How do you guys want to handle this? I'm prepared to go on the defensive and just respond to attacks while keeping us all healed."
[20:18] <Kotono> "I'm planning ot harrass them and fire arrows while invisible," Lief says, "I figure Afina and I can keep pressure on our opponents and you can heal or mop up?"
[20:20] <Afina> "The crowd will hate you," Afina smirks briefly at Lief. "I was thinking of just pairing off individually, but ganging up on our foes one at a time would be more efficient."
[20:22] <Jaela> "So long as you stay within sixty feet of me, I'll be able to track you," Jaela muses. "The crowds though, yeah, there will be hate. I guess if our enemies are either really strong or really weak, I could just go all out in attack myself?"
[20:23] <Kotono> "If they're weak, there's no point worrying about it since they'll lose quickly." Lief remarks, as meanwhile the Graceful Blow cuts through the elementals like water! They're so down, cheers at the victory! After a moment, "You're next," An elemental ducks its head into the room. "This way."
[20:24] * Jaela follows him in her rarely-used hide armor, her shield floating obediently behind.
[20:25] * Afina flutters along agreeably.
[20:28] <Kotono> Lief follows! You are lead through halls and out into the arena! The cheers of the crowd are so much louder here, the stands populated by creatures of all types. Air elementals are only one sort -t here's humanoids and odder thigns yet, outsiders and elementals joining them. You barely have time to study, for 50ft ahead of you are your opponents! Three rather large air elementals, as a voice

[20:41] <Kotono> Lief waves and calls, "That was just a warm up! Send us worthwhile opponents next time!" He flies off after Afina.
[20:41] <Jaela> "Like I said, no shame about it whatsoever," Jaela adds, walking after them slowly.
[20:43] <Kotono> Your escort is there, "By the winds!" he swears, actual shock in the elemental's voice, "You're going to compete for the championship, aren't you?"
[20:44] <Jaela> "You mean win it, don't you?"
[20:44] <Afina> "We came here to win."
[20:44] * Jaela nods at Afina. "I like it when we think alike."
[20:45] <Kotono> "Exactly," Lief flutters along slowly, "We're going to win. If all the competition is like this, we should take the prize now and save our time."
[20:46] <Afina> "Don't be too proud, there's no telling who else is here," Afina warns her fellow pixie.

[20:38] <Kotono> "Yeah, yeah," Lief waves it off as the trio goes back. On settling back in you find another match is ending, more air elementals the victors. As you settle in to watch, you can see the next match. One side is more elementals - but the next is a trio of white robed and cowled men, faces hidden. They stand out compared to the barrage of elementals so far.
[20:40] * Afina pays more interest to this match, if nothing else than for the variety.
[20:40] <Jaela> "Is anyone betting on the elementals here?"
[20:42] <Afina> "Not unless I see some monoliths," Afina shakes her head.
[20:43] <Kotono> "They seem like worthless fodder," Lief kicks back as he rests on the armrest of one of the couches. At this the battle begins! The elementals charge forward, but blasts of pure concussive power slam into them! The elementals are sent reeling without the cowled men even making a move! They stumble about for a few seconds before collapsing, out cold! The crowd is silent, the same silent as
[20:43] <Kotono> the party got on swiftly defeating their foes.
[20:46] <Afina> "I feel bad for them," Afina admits, hoping to see at least some powerful elementals showing what they've got.
[20:48] <Kotono> As the robed men march off without comment, Lief yawns and rests back. OOC: Skip ahead a bit?

[20:50] <Afina> OOC: sure
[20:51] <Kotono> Another few unremarkable matches pass when your escort pokes in. "I presume no healing is needed?" he asks.
[20:52] <Afina> "No," Afina shakes his head, "Are we up now?"
[20:52] <Kotono> "Not quite. There's a few more battles this round. Good luck," he says, parting back out.
[20:56] <Kotono> As he goes back out, you happen to look to the viewing wall. More elementals, but ahead? Two monoliths! You'd know them anywhere! What is with it is slightly smaller - but composed of powerful winds, a sense of palpable power from it. It has its arms crossed, as a series of gasps echo through the crowd!
[20:56] <Afina> "This one should be good," Afina says, watching intently to see what the smaller one does.
[20:58] <Kotono> A moment later the three opposing elementals grovel before it, bowing low. With a single gesture the smaller elemental causes the air to become black, slicing into the opposing elementals like nothing! The two monoliths don't even move as the opponents are cut over and over, tossed down at out!
[20:58] <Kotono> "Oh, now this should be good," Lief perks up, "Those are some big elementals!"
[21:01] <Afina> "They surrendered," Afina states tonelessly. "He didn't give them any quarter. Forget the big ones, Lief, they're not the real threat."
[21:02] <Kotono> "He's an egotistical bastard," Lief seconds, "That's dirty. They weren't resisting and he cut them up just because. Yeah, I know, he's the threat."
[21:03] * Jaela wonders why someone would enter this contest without the chance of death and then just refuse to fight altogether, but she might get her answer if she faces that elemental herself.
[21:04] <Kotono> After a few more moments, the door opens, "The next round is beginning. Your team is up first. Come with me."
[21:05] * Jaela stands up, curious to see who they might end up facing.
[21:05] * Afina flutters out, wondering if she should hold back this time.
[21:08] <Kotono> You are escorted out! To the arena you come - and this time your opponents ar ethe three white cowled mages! The voice from above calls, "You have a chance to cast one spell of preparation each," it declares, "Do so now if you wish!" The crowd is waiting, anticipating, watching!
[21:09] <Afina> Afina holds out her hand, and a blade of searing flame manifests from it, lancing up to form a dagger of fire that burns through all resistance!

[21:38] <Kotono> "Much better," Your escort smiles, as Lief shrugs. "The strong shouldn't waste too much time fighting the weak, but it's not bullying. It's a lesson they can build on." Going 'round Jaela's head, "It's how I learned the hard way."

The Graceful Blow is going against the monoliths and the powerful, smaller elemental! Misalea and Mirima are both dancing with the monoliths, as Canderella and the elemental square off!
[21:45] <Afina> "Come on, you three, beat them!" Afina encourages even if they can't hear, settling by the window to watch.
[21:45] * Jaela abandonds the couch for a change to look closer at the fight. "Kick their asses!" she adds her voice to Afina's.

[21:48] <Kotono> Misalea versus he rmonolith looks closely matched! She dances with the snow and sings, glorious inner beauty brought to bear! Her blade slashes just as fast as the monolith's winds, the two fencing with gales and Sylis! Mirima and the other elemental is a battle of images and swords - until there are many Mirimas, tearing the elemental monolith apart until it collapses, a dozen blows in the
[21:48] <Kotono> space of a second!  Meanwhile a great fist of lightning comes down at the small elemental - but it simply stops. It doesn't fizzle, it doesn't get resisted. It stops. The elemental instead points up as black winds slice the hand of Talos apart, before the same winds come on Canderella! Her defenses are shredded in a moment, sending her flying and beaten, clothing in indecent tatters as she

[21:49] * Afina shakes her head at seeing Canderella beaten so thoroughly. "Mirima better take him down fast."

[21:51] <Jaela> "If we end up fighting him, want to try your delayed fireballs?"

[21:53] <Kotono> Lief whistles, "Poor girl," he murmurs, a slight tensing of his hands, turning into tiny fists. Meanwhile the battle rages! As Misalea slowly pushes the monolith back - unable to strike her, and being slowly attrited down with blow after blow - Mirima and the cruel elemental meet! Mirima dances around him, a quick flurry of blows - but each one is deflected away! A great black gale engulfs

[21:56] <Kotono> Lief does the same, "Bastard," he murmurs, as Mirima surges again! As meanwhile the last monolith is battered down and out Mirima thrusts right at the air elemental, blade ablaze with arcane fire! Despite the winds tearing at her she plunges right into its chest! A moment later she is sent flying by the black winds, Woven Gold left impaled into the elemental!

[21:58] <Jaela> "Maybe that wind's what they have to deal with, before all else," Jaela muses, peering at those black winds closer.
[22:04] <Kotono> Mirima lands hard a ways away, struggling to her feet! Meanwhile the cruel elemental smirks, withdrawing Woven Gold with one hand! No blood, barely any sign of damage. He advances on Misalea, who holds Sylis as the two meet! Blade against blade, Misalea rapidly being pushed back! After a few strikes Sylis is knocked from her hands, sent flying away! [22:04] <Kotono> stumbling back as blood flows freely! Woven Gold is raised to finish her - before three burning rays impact the back of the elemental, Mirima standing! Three Scorching Rays, causing him to stumble momentarily! Pouring blood down her front, Misalea leaps up and wretches Woven Gold out of his hand in one fluid motion, before driving it into the elemental's head, clear through! For a moment
