Stars shine apathetically through the clouds, providing meagre light down upon their child, the hideous crustacean-like brain eater that has rode a meteorite down to spread its pestillence upon an unwary world! With strange arcane tentacles binding several of the defenders and its monstrous worm servant both, it chitters and warbles in an alien language... but what alien thoughts it speaks, none can dare say!

But then the lamprey-like mouth sets itself over the skull and a painful bone-crunching noise is heard, a large bulge moving noticably through the extended mouth afterwards. Letting the corpse fall, it doesn't vanish but instead lays there in brutal testament to the invader's deadly efficiency. The top of its skull seems to be completely sawed off.

Skittering slightly back from the rhino it focuses on Rudy for a moment, waving a pincer round and round as all of its hundreds of eyes stare right at him...

[15:26] <Rudy> Rudy screams in anger and frustration as the alien vanishes from the battlefield!
[15:27] <@Henrietta> "Is it... it is gone for real?" Henrietta asks, flying up to gain a better vantage point of the area.
[15:29] <@Ebiris> Flying up Henrietta has trouble seeing far what with it being night and her light source being farther from the ground...

[15:29] <Rudy> "We can't have something like that following us around," rants Rudy, walking towards Liamae and Lucie. "We can't!"

[15:30] <@Ebiris> "But it teleported. It could be anywhere," Liamae protests. Meanwhile Henrietta can't see any movement except for the tentacles whipping around in futile search of prey.
[15:32] * @Henrietta lands back down next to the others in frustration. "You need to know where you are teleporting!" she insists. "Don't you?"
[15:33] <Rudy> "It saw the world from the sky! That might be enough!" replies Rudy, shaking his head. "What the hell? What, it's gonna show up wherever we are? Salerno? M'lady's house?"
[15:33] <@Ebiris> Liamae nods mutely before blinking. "You think it's used the knowledge of those animals and Tarlari to pick a destination?"
[15:34] <@Henrietta> "Yes!" Henrietta shakes her head, and points at Liamae. "Yes to you! Rudy... Rudy has to be wrong!"
[15:35] <@Ebiris> "I hope it went to Tarlari's valley and one of those plants finished it off," Liamae frowns, pushing herself upright. "But that's over a day from here and we're in no shape to travel. Besides, she summoned animals from anywhere... I think we should go back to Illie to recover and... tell her about her friend."
[15:35] <Rudy> "I have to be?" Rudy laughs. "Maybe you're right. You know what'll happen then? It'll start trying to track us down... and the first place it'd probably look is the village we just saved! Tarlari-" He glances at the corpse- "Would know it's the closest settlement, wouldn't she?"
[15:36] <@Henrietta> "And, and ask her if she can help us track that thing! Or the other things! The worm thing and the spider thing!"
[15:40] * Lucie blinks. "Dark," she mumbles, observing the night sky. Reaches up and verifies her skull is still intact. Sighs with relief and then curls up in a ball, clutching her midsection and groaning in pain.
[15:41] <@Henrietta> "So! So! We should go right now!" Henrietta insists, picking Lucie up.
[15:41] <@Ebiris> "Lucie?" Liamae turns and walks over to her, "Thank the Gods you're alright. We're gonna have to go back to Illie's and we don't have anything we can use for a stretcher, but just hang on will you?"
[15:42] <Lucie> "Whuh--" quickly turns into a whole chain of noises born from agonized incoherence.
[15:42] <Rudy> "Can you, I dunno, put her to sleep or something?"
[15:43] <@Henrietta> "But she may not wake up!"
[15:45] <@Ebiris> The journey back to Illie's grove feels far longer than the journey out here, beaten down and one member short, even if it was an abrasive member. Upon arriving the dryad descends from her tree with alarm in her eyes. "You all look terrible, what happened? And where's Tarlari?" she asks, moving to Lucie and placing a hand over her breast...

[15:46] <@Ebiris> "That was my best healing magic, what happened?!" Illie repeats more shrilly, another spell channeled into the most hurt of the group.

[15:47] <@Ebiris> "Oh, no!" Illie gasps and covers her mouth as Lucie's bones reset and muscle heals. "Did you stop it?"
[15:47] <Rudy> "It teleported. Away. Somewhere," replies Rudy. "It's gonna come after us. Look for us. It wants our brains, too."
[15:47] * Lucie breathes a little easier. "Okay..." she attempts. "'kay...think I can breath without feelin' something's draining through my lungs now...better."
[15:47] <@Henrietta> "We have to find them and destroy them!"
[15:48] <Rudy> "We can't. Not now. Not like we are," replies Rudy, looking at their broken bodies. "I can barely stand, and you guys aren't looking any better."
[15:49] <@Ebiris> "You're safe here, I'll protect you," Illie promises, "But oh, that means it could be anywhere. Such a monster perverting our world, and with all of Tarlari's knowledge as well... she was older than me, and far wiser," the dryad looks downcast, going to lean on the tree. "I should have known there'd be a death tonight if not my own."
[15:50] <@Henrietta> "Umm. Can you find any of them? That is, well, the minions? Or the really horrible one?"
[15:50] <@Ebiris> She shakes her head. "Outside of my grove I have no influence. Hearing the whispers of plants from miles away, that was Tarlari's talent."
[15:51] <Rudy> "What do we do? It'll take time to recuperate without a lot of magical help," says Rudy, after a moment. "And it'll probably be stronger, more prepared the next time."
[15:52] <@Ebiris> "The effects of the ritual from earlier still linger," Illie speaks up, "I can ensure you all recover fully by tomorrow. It's all I can do..." she trails off sadly.
[15:53] * Lucie leans against the tree, putting words together slowly. "Anyone else we can ask for help?" she wonders. "I don't know, in town? No, probably not the town, too far, just peasants anyway, uh...dragon?" she speculates desperately, concluding, "...No."
[15:54] <@Ebiris> "What I wouldn't give for a dragon on our side, now..." Liamae sighs heavily.
[15:55] <Rudy> "Might it be possible?" asks Rudy, tilting his head. "That thing, any intelligent being would rightly want it killed!"
