[18:39] <Shao_Koahn> From there, the party gathers again and heads back to the guard station. The Captain of the Watch is met in the same office, looking up from penning a scroll. Putting her quill down, "Another bounty?" she asks.

[18:42] <Santos> "Sort of. There's a bounty, but not one that's been collected. A certain someone asked us to come talk to you about visiting the ol' Sparrow's tomb."
[18:43] <Santos> "Said we'd need a warrior and that you'd help out?"
[18:44] <Shao_Koahn> This draws a moment's pause as Hilda looks right at Santos. Her face is impassive, her lips slowly, ever so slowly, creasing in a frown. This is followed by her hand coming to massage her forehead, "This certain someone is my brother?"
[18:45] <Janus> "It would be, yes." Janus replies. "Though he did try to evade admitting that."
[18:45] <AutumnCrow> "He wants some manner of sword only granted to worthy warriors from there, for some reason. Though he seemed to have no interest in it himself..." Crow shrugs.
[18:46] <Janus> "So if you want to go get something to bonk him upside the head with, apparently there's a good tool to do it there!"
[18:46] * Santos snorts at Janus' words in amusement.
[18:48] <Shao_Koahn> "How much did he promise you for this task?" she asks evenly, lowering her hand from her forehead. Her voice stays cool and collected throughout, "My brother is a Red Mage and quite taken with himself. If an idea came from his him, it is cast in cold - even if it comes from his nethers."

[19:14] <Janus> "Do you want a spare Revivify? Also, I'm impressed. Names learned before formal introductions, Cap'n." Janus grins, the hood of his robe-tunic up.

[19:15] <Shao_Koahn> "I'm already prepared," she says, "Good recon leads to good things."
[19:15] <Janus> "Very well." Janus nods. "Ready then, Captain."
[19:16] * AutumnCrow chuckles, her hair pinned up in such a way that keeps it from plastering to her face in the rain. The inclimate weather doesn't seem to bother her otherwise, and the woman is *still* not wearing any shoes. "I'm on point for now, hmm? Well, I can fight from any range, so no matter to me."

[20:15] <Shao_Koahn> Thus the party continues up the hill. It's nearly nightfall when you at last come to a cave entrance. It's surrounded by loose stones and boulders, a single path tapering off as it leads to the mouth. It's dark, rainy and visibility is extremely poor. You can't see into the cave at all as you approach.
[20:16] <Morrie> "Janus, could you...?"
[20:19] <Janus> "Of course." Janus nods, before a blooming light - brighter than last time - pours outward from the tip of the staff.
[20:19] <AutumnCrow> "I bring up the rear in caves," Crow explains to Hilda, "Since I can get around the others a bit more readily."
[20:21] <Shao_Koahn> The light draws a loud CLACK followed by a miserable groan! Coming out from behind the bigger stones are three! Two are shambling corpses, barely mobile and rotting! Zombies! The other is familiar - a big red skeleton, hefting a rusted old scimitar! A Red Bone advances, one bony hand shielding empty eye sockets from the light! OOC: Battle. [20:45] <Janus> "Okay, so definitely something about those ruins did it." Janus mutters.
[20:46] * Janus scoops up the robe and materials, depositing them into the bag of holding before continuing.
[20:48] <AutumnCrow> "Likely for the best we hadn't run into a normal one before fighting that monster, then." Crow shakes her head, "We'd have underestimated it."
[20:49] <Janus> "Possibly, yeah. Let's get moving." Janus says, light on his staff leading the way in.
[20:50] <Shao_Koahn> As you advance within the cave, yo ufind it dark. Only Janus' staff lights the way ahead. It's a wide open cave mouth, proceeding on in a rambling, stalagmite lined way. Water drips from the ceiling, a steady and discordant sound coming from all around.
[20:52] <Shao_Koahn> "We should keep a steady order," Hilda speaks up, "Janus, you'll need to be just behind point so we get the most visibility from your staff." She pauses to withdraw her hood, hair mostly dry beneath it. "I hear this cave goes a ways, so if we continue without resting, we may end up going overnight."
[20:53] <AutumnCrow> "Well, at least there aren't any bats." Crow quips as they move through the cave, "And on that note...Morrie, what's your thought there? Find a place to camp in the cave, or push on? If you sense any evil in here, I'd rather push on I think."

[20:56] <Shao_Koahn> The path continues on for a good twenty minutes without incident. It's long and well trodden, no signs of monsters. Just the occasional bones or bits of trash, nothing noteworthy. OOC: Where's the Cancer stone right now?

[20:57] <Santos> OOC: It's giving Janus cancer with it's radioactiveness
[21:01] <Shao_Koahn> As you walk along, a faintly reddish light begins to glow from Janus' pack. It makes the edges of it and the material glow ruby red, casting erratic shadows all over.
[21:02] <AutumnCrow> "...well, second light source isn't a bad thing?" Crow eyes Janus's pack.
[21:02] <Janus> "Eh?" Janus says, turning to look at Crow. "I don't see a second light."
[21:03] <AutumnCrow> "Check your pack, something red is glowing in it."
[21:04] <Shao_Koahn> Hilda turns, the red light barely changing her red garb at all. "What is that?" she asks right away.
[21:05] <Janus> "A stone we found in the previous ruins." Janus replies. "Said to be a conduit. I've been keeping it with me to keep an eye on it... also because it got given to me, I guess?" With that, Janus opens his pack and looks at the stone carefully before pulling it out.
[21:07] <Shao_Koahn> The stone is glowing a low and radiant red. Everything is cast in ruby red as you withdraw it! Around you, you can see distorted faces trailed by lines of goo, flying about and groaning! The groaning is soft and barely audible, but the strange apparitions circle around the stone in erratic circles.
[21:08] <Morrie> "...That isn't a pleasant sight."
[21:08] <AutumnCrow> "Well that isn't creepy at all." Crow deadpans. "Ah...what exactly is going on with that thing?"
[21:09] <Shao_Koahn> Hilda calmly draws her blade, swinging through one of the heads...but it doesn't even respond to it, the blade passing through harmlessly!
[21:09] * Janus mutely stares at the crystal, attempting to discern the reason for its strange reaction. OOC: Any chance Lore (Magic) would do anything here?

[21:15] * Janus shrugs, before putting it back in his pack. "I think what it's doing is showing us, uh. How many souls are wandering this place. Reacting to them, so to speak. Worth keeping an eye on, but nothing dangerous - might be a good warning sign if it gets really bright."

[21:16] <AutumnCrow> "I...see?"
[21:16] <Shao_Koahn> "I...see." Hilda pauses for just a moment, "And you're acting like it's nothing?"
[21:17] <AutumnCrow> "Well what exactlyc can we do about it?" Crow asks bluntly.
[21:18] <AutumnCrow> "If evil spirits show up, we handle them. If not, we go on about our business."
[21:18] <Janus> "It's... not blowing us up, and none of us are seeing undead armies coming to attack us, right?" Janus shrugs. "We keep going, we may be able to diagnose what the hell it's doing. Right now, not a clue."
[21:19] <Janus> "Other than what I just said, the whys and whats of this mystery are basically unknowns."
[21:19] <Shao_Koahn> "A cogent analysis," Hilda finally says, keeping her sword out as she turns away and starts walking forward.
[21:19] <Santos> "As long as it doesn't empower any Red Bones, or result in us getting swarmed, I'm happy letting it be."
[21:21] <Janus> "Not saying don't keep an eye on it, just saying no reason to stop now." Janus says, lifting his staff and following Hilda.
[21:21] * Morrie will follow along.
[21:22] <Shao_Koahn> On you travel. Another half hour or so. The light from the pack dims but your way is without incident. Only the occasional ripple in the air, a half seen face of crying torment or lost despair. It is now that you come to an intersection. The path continues ahead, but there is a short hallway to the right ending in an old wooden door.
[21:22] <Morrie> "The ancients certainly enjoyed their doors..."
[21:23] <AutumnCrow> "We do tend to like the things in modern times as well. Most buildings have them, you know." Crow quips.
[21:23] <Shao_Koahn> "They are useful," Hilda seconds, "If this path is a straight shot to the tomb, then that's likely a small side branch."
[21:24] * Janus glances between the two. "You're the one we're escorting. Care for a quick diversion, or do you want to barrel through? We might be able to use the side path as a resting spot, thanks to the door, if we clean it out."
[21:25] <Santos> "That might be a good idea, actually," Santos muses, not having considered Janus' point before.
[21:25] <Shao_Koahn> Hilda nods, heading towards the door. She checks it, "Unlocked," she says, "Be ready in case monsters lurk."
[21:26] <Janus> "Got it."
[21:27] * AutumnCrow idly cleans some dirt out from under her nails as someone opens the door. She's never more then a split second from a combat stance, after all.
[21:29] <Shao_Koahn> Hilda quickly opens the door! Within is a small room with a few piles of hay. Nothing is immediately around. There's some writing carved into the back wall, large enough to read from here, "CONSECRATED GROUND."
[21:30] <AutumnCrow> "Well, that's convenient."
[21:30] <Santos> "Assuming it isn't a trap of some sort, sure," Santos agrees.
[21:30] <Morrie> "Janus, is this actually protected?"
[21:30] <Shao_Koahn> "It's not unheard of," Hilda says, "I know altrusitic White Mages do this on occasion, and this road has been traveled before."
[21:31] <Janus> "Yeah, this would be safe ground!" Janus says happily, before pausing. "Well, presuming it's not a trap, yes." With that, Janus looks in and around for the tell-tale signs.
[21:33] <Janus> "Yeah, we're clear, pretty sure." Janus nods. "Sweet, safe ground."
[21:34] <Morrie> "Let's keep this in mind if we find anything severe in here, then."
[21:34] <Shao_Koahn> Hilda enters, "We can rest the night here, then. I'll take first watch."

[21:42] * Santos yawns and stretches, looking half-asleep. "Well, that was a short nap..." he mutters. "Now...what the HELL was that?!?"
[21:42] <Shao_Koahn> As the party reacts, the red light comes from the stone Janus pulls out! The stone throbs red as lines of white fire surge from ceiling to the floor, winking out at the bottom! A split-second later the door explodes inwards, Hilda already with drawn steel! From the door three surge in! Each is a rotten zombie, slightly bigger and fouler than the two you fought! The third is the same, but different.
[21:42] <Shao_Koahn> There is an aura around it, an aura that seems to draw things to a sudden and abrupt pause. It draws your attention like water going down a whirlpool, eyes utterl empty of everything and nothing!
