@Alethiophile: thanks for the feedback.  Incorporated the corrections, mostly.

I'm now hedging on capitalizing yondaime/sandaime, etc., since they're inherently singular _anyway_, and in a sense, always proper....  Hmm.  Need to think about that.

1.) There's no pre-existing plan, that's right.
2/3.) It's just a coincidence; Shikaku was merely trying to be courteous and establishing Chekov's D-rank.  For Jiraya, it's a sake-bottle and a prayer for the mostpart.
4.) I changed things around a tiny bit; it's clarified that Shizune steps inside the genjutsu and can hear through it before Jiraya dismisses it (Tsunade just assumes that it's not a bubble, but the narration explains this a little better).

To help shore it up, Jiraya will also double-check with Shikaku in the next chapter.  He only promised not to have Naruto sent to the hospital, after all....
