[18:01] <@Kotono> OOC: Any last minute prep, purchases or things to do before heading to the Sidhe world?
[18:03] <Gildas> OOC: I cannot think of anything.
[18:03] <@John> OOC: me neither
[18:07] * Corwin is now known as Feather
[18:08] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay then.
[18:08] <@Kotono> The party heads to the nearest flower circle. You find it quiet and serene. It is pristine, and in the shadows of the trees around it, many mushrooms grow. OOC: Go ahead and act, y'all. I presume you're going in, but y'know.
[18:09] * Feather methodically checks his weapons and armor, and then steps inside.
[18:09] * @John takes a nice look around the comparatively normal Vastwoods, perhaps the last chance he'll get to see ordinary woodland for a while. And then he takes the plunge, stepping into the circle.
[18:10] <Gildas> "I'm going to try and help speed this up. I'll cast something once we get to the other side." He nods to the others before stepping in after them! OOC: To be clear, he'll be the last one through.
[18:12] <@Kotono> Myann lingers a few moments, looking to the mushrooms and then the open sky. She then follows, vanishing into the flower circle. For the party, it's like falling. The other side is bright. The forest is a riot of colors, leaves a blend of red, gold, yellow and orange. It is as if fall has come, and there is even a gentle chill in the air.
[18:13] <Gildas> Gildas says some words to himself before casting a spell to affect the party in order to grant them some speed and stamina! OOC: Wind at Back.
[18:14] <@Kotono> Myann takes a slow look around, "The season's wrong," she mutters aloud, "This might be trouble."
[18:14] <@John> "S'not even the right season, is it?" John says, noticing the autumnal colours. "Anyway, which direction?"
[18:14] <Gildas> He then looks to the arrow to figure out which direction they actually should go in!
[18:17] <@Kotono> The arrow spins, spins and spins some more, until it points due south. The path ahead is thickly overgrown and looks like terribly difficult going.
[18:19] <@John> "Well, never figured it'd be easy, right?" John says, trudging off that way.
[18:19] <Gildas> "I can see if there's an easier path around from the air, if you'd like." Gildas offers.
[18:19] * Joins: C2 (~DarkFlame@bzq-79-183-39-26.red.bezeqint.net)
[18:19] * C2 is now known as Feather_
[18:20] <@Kotono> "That's a thought," Myann says, "A few spells and we can spend a few hours flying instead of trudging through all this."
[18:21] * Quits: Feather (~DarkFlame@bzq-79-183-39-26.red.bezeqint.net) (Ping timeout)
[18:22] <Gildas> "Let me check." Gildas says before shapeshifting into his Aerial form to check and see if the tangled mess lasts for very long, or if there's an easy way around it.
[18:25] <@Kotono> Gildas flies up. The canopy is chokingly thick, but he manages to make it up. The sky is a bright blue as he can see the forest goes about in all directions, as far as he can see. It looks intensely wild and untamed. Meanwhile, down below, giggles are heard all around. A chorus of cute, girlish voices. "The Lady of Mushrooms is here!" "Look, look, look at this!" "I smell dreams!" "I taste the
[18:25] <@Kotono> dreams that never end and that you always wake up from!"
[18:26] <Feather_> Feather is just happy these ones are staying invisible after how the previous encounters with the fairies went.
[18:27] <@John> "Hullo," John greets the invisible source of the voices welcoming them.
[18:27] <Gildas> Gildas flies forward a bit to see if the southern direction is all overgrown or just parts of it, as best as he can.
[18:28] <@Kotono> Myann looks about, before settling on a bit of bush ahead. She grimaces a moment, as meanwhile, "Hiii!" they call as one, a sound of dripping thereafter. "Would you like our honey?"
[18:29] <@Kotono> The southern path ahead is quite overgrown and consistently so. It would be slow, hard going since you'd be constantly clearing a trail, looks like.
[18:30] <@John> "Uh, no thanks. Just ate," John says, shaking his head. Not that fey produced foods are bad as Myann's mushrooms attest but... well, better be careful.
[18:32] <Gildas> He looks around for any other path that goes around it or nearby it that they could use to at least go nearby it without needing to go through all that work.
[18:33] <@Kotono> Before John, one appears. It looks like a bloated pixie on a glance, with honey-yellow skin. In place of a head it has a tilted, tiny beehive, where barely visible bees buzz. A tongue lolls out of a hole in the side of the hive, dripping honey. The creature lacks legs, half a dozen small stingers in place of them. It has wings like a bee. It giggles cutely, "But I want to feed you my honey!"
[18:33] <@John> "Aaauagh!" John shrieks in horror at the unholy vision he beholds, jumping back and practically out of his skin!
[18:33] <@Kotono> Myann scowls, "We are not entertained," she asserts, glowering at the creature before you. "Nor are we hungry."
[18:34] <@Kotono> There's no paths that he sees. It's virgin wilderness.
[18:36] <@Kotono> "But we do," A half dozen other voices call, voices filled with pouty indiginty. "Let us help your servant, Lady of the Mushrooms." Meanwhile, Feather feels something drip onto his left shoulder.
[18:38] <Feather_> Feather glances at his left shoulder despite his better judgement.
[18:38] <Gildas> Gildas returns to the others and shapeshifts back. "Myann, perhaps we can have them help us with getting to our destination. There's no easy way south at the moment because of all the overgrowth. Perhaps they could help us with that."
[18:39] * @John gives Gildas a betrayed look.
[18:39] <Gildas> Gildas looks back at John, then raises a hand in defense. "By making the path easier for us to traverse, not by turning us into honey."
[18:40] <@Kotono> A little droplet of honey rests there. As Feather looks, another lands there from above.
[18:41] <@Kotono> Myann coughs into her hand and then loudly clears her throat. "Enough!" She calls, the sound echoing about the forest. "Gildas is right. Help if you wish, otherwise leave us." And with a glare at the visible honey-pixie, "And cover yourself once more."
[18:43] <@Kotono> At this, the visible pixie vanishes from sight. Silence comes to the grove, the dripping on Feather's shoulder ceasing.
[18:44] <@John> "Oh Pelor, thanks Myann," John shudders. "They shouldn't have such nice voices if they look like that."
[18:44] <Feather_> Feather stares at his shoulder in disgust. "So, we flying south?"
[18:44] <Gildas> "It looks like we're on our own, then." Gildas states. "If we go south we're going to have to cross a lot of nonsense. I think flying is the best bet."
[18:46] <@Kotono> "You're welcome," Myann says, "Don't be afraid to let me yell at any Sidhe who cause problems. They'll listen to me, if nothing else." She quickly chants, two leaf mushrooms falling from above and enhancing Feather and John. OOC: Going to go flying then, y'all?
[18:47] <Gildas> OOC: Yessir.
[18:50] <@Kotono> Thus the party takes to the air. You fly for about an hour without incident. It's a sunny, bright fall day. There's even chilly breezes to remind you of the different time of year. But as you fly on, you see something ahead. It flickers into your vision as you pass, far to your left. It looks like a floating castle made of tangled trees and branches, a grand structure that hovers far above the
[18:50] <@Kotono> canopy.
[18:51] <Gildas> Gildas hovers in place since he can't really talk at the moment, but does look to the other two who can with a questioning bird look.
[18:52] <@John> "Reckon that's where Prince Broadpyne lives?" John wonders, looking over that way.
[18:53] <Feather_> "The arrow pointing that way at all?"
[18:53] <@Kotono> The arrow is pointing south, not towards the castle.
[18:54] <@Kotono> Myann just looks at the castle in bird form, then looks to Feather.
[18:54] <@Kotono> OOC: Gah.
[18:55] <@Kotono> Myann just looks at the castle in bird form, then looks to Feather. She gives it a good luck and grumbles, before going down to the canopy and perching on a relatively large branch. She transforms back and calls up, "I don't see any Sidhe around there. Up to all of you," she calls, before taking bird form once more and flying back up.
[18:56] <@John> "No point talking to any old fey when we're looking for the oldest, right? And that's what the arrow's for?"
[18:57] <Gildas> Gildas nods, assuming they can just come back to it on their way back anyway and starts to resume his flight in the southern direction unless stopped by the others!
[18:57] <Feather_> Feather nods. "Can't even fight them properly. No point in it."
[18:59] <@Kotono> Thus the party flies on.
[18:59] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[18:59] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 72." [1d100=72]
[18:59] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[18:59] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 25." [1d100=25]
[19:01] <@Kotono> A half hour later requires a quick touchdown for refreshing your flight spell. You land about halfway down, in some solid branches that can support the party. As Myann re-casts, "AFter this, we'll have to walk," she says, "But I'm hoping we'll see the foliage start to thin a bit, we're making good time right now."
[19:02] <@John> "Even if we have to walk it's not as if we're having to go through lava or anything," John shrugs it off easily.
[19:02] <Gildas> Gildas takes a moment to shapeshift back on a branch to stretch. "It's saved us a good deal of time, either way."
[19:02] <Feather_> "Yeah, we're good."
[19:04] <@Kotono> "I wonder how far we'll have to travel?" Myann asks as she stretches as well, "We'll find out." AT that she becomes a bird once more, taking to the air.
[19:04] <Gildas> Gildas does likewise to continue south!
[19:04] <@John> Waggling his tail, John rises up after them.
[19:07] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[19:07] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 21." [1d100=21]
[19:09] <@Kotono> The party flies for another half hour. As yo udo, you see a break in the forest below. It's a clearing. Within is a large spring. From above, you can see that water is moving and flying about. As if unseen creatures are splashing around in it. You can't hear anything from up here, though. Sitting at the edge of the pond is a single humanoid creature, visible and notably unmutated. He's only
[19:09] <@Kotono> wearing a loincloth.
[19:10] <Gildas> Gildas again stops and looks to the others for their input.
[19:10] <Feather_> Feather gestures down, and slowly flies towards the edge of the pool. Seeing someone like that is interesting enough.
[19:11] <@John> "Here look, that guy looks normal," John points it out as an oddity but otherwise is uninterested until Feather starts descending, so he follows.
[19:14] <@Kotono> Myann follows as well. As you go down, the splashing stops. By the time the party reaches the ground, the pool is still. Myann's looking at it, "About a dozen bathing nymphs," she says, and after a beat, "It's not nearly as alluring as the bards like to claim." The man in the loincloth doesn't even look up.
[19:14] <@Kotono> Also, she shapeshiftsb ack as soon as she lands.
[19:15] <@John> "Hullo," John greets the man, his back to the pond and taking Myann's word for what's within.
[19:15] <@Kotono> There's a strange cornucopia of sounds - clattering, shaking, hissing and something that sounds like metal grinding on metal. It all comes from the spring, little waves of ripples coming from here and there. "What do you want, Lady of the Mushrooms?" One asks, a sweetly honeyed voice. "Are you here for Lady Valisha?"
[19:16] <Feather_> "Wasn't the nymphs that brought me here," Feather says with a snort, before offering the man his own greeting. "Hi-- wait, you are a guy, aren't you?"
[19:16] <@Kotono> The man looksup. His eyes are glassy and faraway, "Eh?" he asks, perhaps twenty or twenty two years old or so. He has short brown hair and is really rather handsome.
[19:16] <@Kotono> The man slowly nods, "I am...a...man." he finally says, voice slow and stumbling.
[19:17] <@Kotono> "I come on MY business," Myann shoots back to them unseen nymphs, "What are you doing to that human there?" She crosses her arms under her bosom and glares at the pool.
[19:17] <Feather_> "Name's Feather!" he says, offering the man his hand. "What'cha doing here?"
[19:18] <@John> "They got you charmed?" John asks the man. If the nymphs are as bad as the pixies then it's certainly pitiable.
[19:18] <@Kotono> "Feather...?" He slowly blinks, and as if a fog is leaving him, "Feather, Gildas and the dragonslayer Porridge!" he speaks up, "That song, I remember it!"
[19:20] <Gildas> Gildas shapeshifts back and casts a quick Detect Magic in the area to see if anything especially strange is going on.
[19:20] <@Kotono> As the fog clears, he looks to John, "You're a big one, aren't you?" he asks, slowly rubbing his eyes. "What's going on? The last thing I remember..." he licks his lips, "The taste of vanilla and..."
[19:20] <Feather_> "Got a song about yourself? Cause you're here and all. Few people are!"
[19:21] <@John> "I'm John," he says, offering a hand out.
[19:23] <@Kotono> "We're going to make him a new sister," One voice says with a little hmph, haughty and unamused. "It's entertaining to try and see what happens when you use a grown male for it. So what if Lady Valisha doesn't approve?" Then another, this one speaking in a high pitched voice, "It's funny! We're going to see how far we can stretch his body, like taffy candy at the carnival! Oh, I dream about the
[19:23] <@Kotono> carnival sometimes...!" A third voice, this one mature and brooding, "How far can my craft change a mortal's body? This is what I will find out soon, Lady of the Mushrooms. Stay and watch, I promise you it will be entertaining. Should it be successful, there is an entire village for repeat performances."
[19:23] <@Kotono> Gildas can indeed etect magic. OOC: Spellcraft.
[19:23] <Gildas> roll 1d20+17
[19:23] * Hatbot --> "Gildas rolls 1d20+17 and gets 21." [1d20=4]
[19:24] <@John> "Ewww, you're gonna turn him into a spirit-man?!" John asks in revulsion, turning to the pond.
[19:24] <@Kotono> "John. Feather," he takes the hand and rises, looking down, "Why am I dressed like this?!"
[19:24] <@Kotono> "I object," Myann says immediately, stepping to the very edge of the pool. "I-" But she is cut off as a chorus of shouts comes from the pool. "No!" The old voice snaps, "How dare you suggest that?!"
[19:25] <@Kotono> Gildas can't puzzle out the magic here - it's thick Sidhe magic.
[19:25] <@John> "Well you said taffy and that's what they look like," John mutters, quailing a bit at their indignation.
[19:25] <Gildas> Gildas grimaces. "They're using some potent Sidhe magic for this." He says to the others, though that's probably obvious...
[19:26] <Feather_> "Yeah we're leaving."
[19:26] <@Kotono> Myann scowls, her face twisting with anger. "Shut up," she snaps, "This human is under my protection. If you so much as try anything to him, my servants here will personally make entertainment out of all of you. Yes," At that she turns to Feather, "Feather, can you carry him?"
[19:28] <Feather_> Feather grimaces, but ends up shrugging at Myann. "Sure thing, I got this."
[19:30] <@Kotono> "Thank you," Myann flashes a momentary smile at him, before turning back, "Leave that village alone. Go entertain yourselves on some satyrs for all I care, but leave the humans alone. This forest's mortal side is where I live and I do not take kindly to interlopers."
[19:34] <Feather_> "We hear you went there," Feather follows up on that, picking up the man, "you get fucked by cold iron. Your choice."
[19:38] <Gildas> Gildas moves over to help Feather and the young man. "There's a reason Lady Valisha disapproves of such actions." He calls out.
[19:38] <@Kotono> Little gasps and cries come from the pool, and the mature voice speaks. "I see. It will be like this, Lady of the Mushrooms?"
[19:39] <Gildas> Gildas looks over to Myann. "Are they really trying to challenge us?"
[19:40] <@Kotono> "It won't. It will be worse. Much worse." She kneels down as Feather picks up the young man, looking straight ahead. "If somehow I miss any of you in my own amusements," A smile twists onto her face, "I'll tell my friend Valisha about how you defied her good advice. Oh, and I'm probably stopping by to see Prince Broadpyne soon. I'll make sure to tell him as well. That is, if you want to face
[19:40] <@Kotono> dragon slayers and the ones who were triumphant over the mantle of the undead." She stands and turns, "Your choice." She then answers Gildas, "No, I think they just needed to be reminded of reality."
[19:41] <Gildas> He nods and starts to head out of the clearing, but still going south, if such a thing is possible.
[19:41] <@Kotono> The way ahead is thick, as the man looks around in confusion, "Thanks...I think," he murmurs to Feather. "What's going on?"
[19:41] * @John sticks around to lend his imposing, or at least tall, presence to backing up Myann's threats before they all leave.
[19:43] <Feather_> "Most fairies ain't that fair," Feather mutters in disgust. "You don't wanna stay there, trust me."
[19:43] <@Kotono> There's stone-still silence, not a sound as John looms. It's as if whatever is in the water is shocked absolutely still.
[19:44] <Gildas> Gildas will do what he can to part as much of the thick forest as he's able for the others to pass.
[19:45] <@Kotono> Thus the party struggles ahead. As you go, "Sorry," Myann murmurs, "But I couldn't let them have that...say, what's your name?" she asks.
[19:49] <@Kotono> "Richard," He answers as he rubs the side of his head, "Head's all muddy, like a hangover."
[19:50] <Feather_> "Should get better over time?"
[19:55] <@Kotono> "Hope so," The party twists back some vines, leaving the spring behind, "I...I think I owe all of you some thanks. Last I remember, I was chasing that bear off, then vanilla."
[19:55] <@John> "S'pretty scary they can just grab a guy up like that," John nods.
[19:57] <@Kotono> "It really is," Myann murmurs, "We'll see about getting you home, though we're in the middle of a trip of our own, right now."
[20:00] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, since conversation's dying down, what are y'all gonna do now/?
[20:01] <@John> OOC: keep on walking?
[20:01] <Feather_> OOC: Keep heading south, stop to make camp when we get tired, keep a watch, see if Richard's better tomorrow?
[20:03] <Gildas> OOC: Works for me.
[20:04] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[20:04] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:04] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 74." [1d100=74]
[20:04] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:04] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 12." [1d100=12]
[20:04] <@Kotono> OOC: Fort saves, all.
[20:04] <@Kotono> OOC: +4 if you have endurance.
[20:04] <@John> roll 1d20+12
[20:04] * Hatbot --> "John rolls 1d20+12 and gets 22." [1d20=10]
[20:05] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+14 Myann (+4 endurance)
[20:05] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+14 Myann (+4 endurance) and gets 33." [1d20=19]
[20:06] <Gildas> roll 1d20+15
[20:06] * Hatbot --> "Gildas rolls 1d20+15 and gets 28." [1d20=13]
[20:06] <Feather_> roll 1d20+12
[20:06] * Hatbot --> "Feather_ rolls 1d20+12 and gets 31." [1d20=19]
[20:09] <@Kotono> The party makes slow and steady time. It's damned hard going, and near sunset the party is fatigued - but nothing worse. Camp is set up under a big tree, Myann quickly fixing up a hot meal. Richard's fallen asleep already. As the party eats the mushrooms and warmed jerky, "So are we going to take  him with us this entire trip?" Myann asks.
[20:10] <@John> "Can't really drop him off, can we?" John shrugs. "Even if we find a circle he'd just end up lost in the forest on the other side."
[20:10] <Gildas> "He might be more familiar with his side of the forest." Gildas says.
[20:11] <Feather_> "Might meet someone reasonable who'll drop him off and see him home all safe-like?"
[20:12] <@Kotono> "Would be nice," Myann murmurs, smothering a yawn and then taking another bite of dinner. "Hopefully what we're doing will make things like this a memory."
[20:15] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Here's hoping."

Ebiris

[18:02] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, any watch for overnight?
[18:04] <Feather> OOC: me/gil/john/myann?
[18:04] <@John> OOC: sure
[18:04] <@Kotono> OOC: Sure. Okay then. Also, you were casting that spell in the mroning, Gildas, the info spell?
[18:04] <Gildas> OOC: Yes.
[18:06] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[18:06] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 95." [1d100=95]
[18:06] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[18:06] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 50." [1d100=50]
[18:06] <@Kotono> roll 1d4
[18:06] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d4 and gets 1." [1d4=1]
[18:07] <@Kotono> The party's been asleep for an hour, if that. Feather resists the urge to join them in favor of keeping a watch. As he does...OOC: Perception.
[18:07] <Feather> roll 1d20+14
[18:07] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 1d20+14 and gets 24." [1d20=10]
[18:09] <@Kotono> Somewhere to the west of the camp, Feather hears a rustling in the bushes.
[18:10] * Feather decides to wake Gildas up early, kicking at his foot lightly. "Ain't nothing worth stealing here," he calls out to the bushes. "Not with the trouble it'll bring you."
[18:11] <Gildas> One eye opens from the kick, but he stays on the ground and pretends to still be asleep in case something happens.
[18:12] <@Kotono> They come from the bushes - mice. Dozens of mice marching in a line, walking upright. Each carries a tiny little sword in one paw. They're 20ft away and out of the bush now, coming towards the camp.
[18:13] <Feather> "Are you guys tiny druids or something?"
[18:15] <@Kotono> They speak as one, "We are one. We are enlightened." They have strangely deep voices, that of a booming man at the height of vitality. "We are all High Druid Comelas." Before your eyes, the swords transform into sprigs of holly and mistletoe.
[18:16] * Feather blinks. "You're all the same guy? What, you split into all these pieces and you can't get back?
[18:16] <Gildas> Gildas can't lay there any longer and moves to sit up. "Don't look at me." Gildas says to stave off any questioning looks from Feather. "But it seems plausible that he might be able to shapeshift into multiple parts."
[18:18] <@Kotono> "We split on gaining enlightenment. We are one." He answers, glancing at Gildas. "We come to pay tribute to the slayers of Johann. We lost many friends to him in our previous life." As one, the mice bow deeply. "We have followed the cries of the mushrooms to here."
[18:18] <Gildas> He just nods and bows a little in his sitting position. "You have our thanks, then."
[18:20] <Feather> "Crazy dead man had to go."
[18:20] <@Kotono> From the back to the front, a single golden coin is passed along. The closest mouse takes it and drops it on the ground. "This is our tribute. We are happy that the Lady of the Mushrooms has grown. We await what comes next."
[18:21] <Gildas> "We consider it a token of friendship, High Druid. Please do not think you need to pay any of us tribute."
[18:25] <@Kotono> The mice bow as one. "Please remember us when the time comes. The Sidhe are still blind to it, we think. They have not read the auguries as well as we have; the slayer may blind them in some ways, we are not sure. Beware the spiritmen. They will not relent for your final journey. We see them in the auguries."
[18:28] <Gildas> Gildas reaches over to take the coin and inspect it! OOC: Detect Magic too
[18:29] <Feather> "Sure thing!" Feather agrees all too readily. "And hey, thanks!"
[18:29] <@Kotono> The coin isn't magical. It looks like one of the coins that appear in blocks, thanks to Myann's magic.
[18:30] <@Kotono> "We hope you succeed," The mice say as one, "We hope you remember us." As one they bow again, before turning 'round and marching away.
[18:30] <Gildas> "How could we forget?" Gildas remarks to Feather.
[18:32] <@Kotono> OOC: Ready to move along now?
[18:33] <Gildas> OOC: Yar.
[18:36] <@Kotono> Morning comes. Myann fixes up a simple breakfast of mushrooms and trail biscuits, as the party sits around and talks. Richard tears into his, "Thanks," he says on being passed seconds. "I feel more together today. I think I remember most of what happened."
[18:36] <@John> "I had the most awful dream," John groans after getting up. "I was eating honey and then one of those... things, appeared, crawling all over me and saying how great it was that I was eating her... stuff. Then the nymph showed up," he shudders, "She was awful and got really mad that I was eating someone else's honey. Said she'd stretch me like taffy until all the honey came back out..." he trails off with a haunted expression.
[18:38] * Feather winces in sympathy. "That's horrible, man!" he exclaims. "All I dreamt about was that some mice showed up and gave me a golden coin as tribute."
[18:38] <Gildas> Gildas looks over to John and just gives him a reassuring smile. "I'm sure they won't bother us today. If you all can give me a little bit of time, I'd like to get an idea of where we are and where we're going. I also have prepared something that should help us move through this area without any trouble."
[18:39] <@Kotono> Myann listens to Richard, but pauses with a little twist of her lips, "Richard? Sorry, but could you hold that just a second? Thanks." She turns her attentions to John, "I dreamed about the mushrooms, of course. I could probably ask the mushroom sto come to your dreams, if you'd like."
[18:39] <@Kotono> Richard turns as well, "Well damn," he mutters, crossing his arms with a little hmph.
[18:39] <@John> "Anything's better than that," John nods, still shaken.
[18:41] <@Kotono> Myann nods and closes her eyes, "Done." With a soft smile, "They're always so eager to do what I want, especially on this side."
[18:44] <@Kotono> As a pause comes to the converesation, "So, you were saying?" Myann asks Richard.
[18:45] <Gildas> Gildas takes some time to cast a spell and seems lost in thought for a great while, before he seems to come back to reality. "All right. If we want to get him back home, four miles east of here is a Fairy Circle. In the ... opposite direction, west and northwest is where we could find Lady Valisha and her court, if we were so inclined." He takes a breath and gestures south. "We'll find a lake
[18:45] <Gildas> with some water creatures, that are similar to your previous elemental, John."
[18:45] <@Kotono> "What is it with you people and mushrooms?" he asks warily, "Look, you all are famous heroes, but what the hell?" At Gildas's words he stops and instead hms.
[18:45] <@John> John smiles a bit, remembering all those fun times with Splashuzu...
[18:46] <Gildas> "Further south... about 47 miles from where we are... is a ... small city of nymphs? Interesting. I'm not sure if that's our destination, but there you have it."
[18:47] <@Kotono> Myann grimces at that, "Just trust us about the mushrooms. You can probably figure it out, anyway," she remarks, before rubbing her temples, "A city of nymphs. We may want to avoid that. That one group of them was more than enough."
[18:47] <Feather> "Four miles ain't far. Can make it easily?"
[18:51] <Gildas> "Also, if we went west, we'd come across a lake that's home to the... Endless Sisters?" He shrugs at that. "I've never heard that name before."
[18:52] <@Kotono> Richard shakes his head, "If that circle can get me home, I'd like that. My family has to be worried. Last they saw me, I was chasing that damn bear off."
[18:53] <Gildas> "I think I can get us there pretty quickly." Gildas says.
[18:54] <@Kotono> OOC: Going to that nearby fairy circle, then?
[18:54] <@John> OOC: sure
[18:54] <Feather> OOC: yes
[18:54] <Gildas> OOC: I'll cast Easy Trail and Wind at Back for the trip
[18:55] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[18:55] <@Kotono> roll 1d100-5
[18:55] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100-5 and gets 61." [1d100=66]
[18:58] <@Kotono> The trip to the fairy circle is without incident and takes about an hour. You find it full of rich purple flowers. There is a faint sense of nostalgia here, something felt without a real reason why.
[18:59] <@John> "Reminds me of something..." John says, looking at the purple flowers and trying to place them and explain away the feeling of nostalgia.
[19:00] <@Kotono> "Me too," Myann says, kneeling down to look at the flowers.
[19:01] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+13
[19:01] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+13 and gets 29." [1d20=16]
[19:02] <@Kotono> "Wolfsbane," she remarks after a cursory inspection.
[19:02] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "I think I might take some for later."
[19:02] <@Kotono> Richard looks around, "I feel like I've been here a long time ago," he remarks, "Like..." he struggles with it visibly, "But I've never been here."
[19:04] <Feather> "Fey magic?" Feather shrugs. "Just don't go chasing any bears, even if they look all familiar like?"
[19:07] <@Kotono> "Don't," Myann agrees, "Go through that circle there and you'll be back on the right side. Here." She passes over a small sack, bulging with mushrooms. "That should be enough to feed you for a few days. Make sure to eat some other food when you get home, since you can't last on mushrooms alone."
[19:09] <Feather> "You can't?" Feather asks her curiously. "Even when they taste like different things?"
[19:09] <@John> "Still got to eat your greens," John says sagely.
[19:09] <@Kotono> "Well, you can if I ask them nicely, I think, and I know I could," Myann hmms, "But you do need variety."
[19:10] <@Kotono> "Right." Richard gives the party a look, "Thanks, all of you." He takes a breath and steps into the fairy circle, vanishing from sight.
[19:11] <Gildas> Gildas kneels down to collect some Wolfsbane before they resume their journey. OOC: I'd say about 20 individual plants if possible.
[19:11] <@Kotono> OOC: Sure, post it in loot
[19:11] <@Kotono> .
[19:11] <@Kotono> OOC: What's y'all's plan now?
[19:12] <@John> OOC: follow the arrow
[19:13] <@Kotono> OOC: Right.
[19:13] <@Kotono> roll 1d100-5
[19:13] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100-5 and gets 50." [1d100=55]
[19:15] <@Kotono> The arrow leads south with a slight western tilt. The party passes noon and eats without incident. The cool weather makes for good travel, as does the fall-colored forest. With Gildas's magic easing the way, it's close to a pleasant day spent hiking. A time past noon, the party can see a clearing ahead and a bit to the west. Even from here, you can see the ripple of waters.
[19:16] <Gildas> "Do you all want to stop there? We can't be sure the creatures will be friendly."
[19:17] <Feather> "Plenty of hours left in the day," Feather muses.
[19:17] <@John> "Splashuzu was alright, but it takes all types," John shrugs.
[19:17] <@Kotono> "Up to all of you," Myann says, "We can always leave if it's goign to be trouble."
[19:19] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Maybe you can find a relative of his then."
[19:20] <@Kotono> OOC: Going to the lake or moving on, y'all?
[19:20] <Gildas> OOC: I think we're going?
[19:21] <@John> OOC: may as well
[19:23] <@Kotono> The party approaches the lake. It's a rather large one, stretching a goodly ways in each direction. As you approach, you can see vaguely humanoid creatures of water splashing about. A few dozen, scattered far and wide. The waters of the lake are dark, but you can see some movements below the surface of the water, too.
[19:24] <Gildas> "Did Spashuzu speak at all, John?" Gildas looks over to him.
[19:25] <@John> "Sort of, I mean, he made noises?" John shrugs, "Never understood him, but we got on well anyway. Hullo!" he calls over to the elementals.
[19:28] <@Kotono> The party approaches. A few of the elementals come close as well - about human sized and made of water, with a few others rising up from the deep. They merely stare at the party. In front of them another rises. It is a woman, nude and made of solid blue slime. She's rather beautiful in an alien way, yet busty and generally big in all the right places for a woman. "Well, well," she says in perfect
[19:28] <@Kotono> Common, "John? I would have expected you earlier if you were to ever show up here. Is this your doing, Lady of the Mushrooms?"
[19:29] <@Kotono> "John?" Myann looks to him, "You know her?"
[19:30] <@John> At last, a creature of this realm that looks nice! Even if it'd be hard to really touch... "Hullo, uh, you a friend of Splashuzu?" he asks, staring up. Then again Splashuzu died helping him so that might not lend to a good impression.
[19:31] <Feather> The mother, probably, with their luck. But Feather doesn't want to get in the middle of it.
[19:31] <@Kotono> "I'm Ripple," she giggles, making her entire body mimic her name. "I'm his mother. All of the elementals here are my children."
[19:31] <Gildas> Gildas just stands back to watch for now.
[19:32] <@John> "Oh. Uh, sorry about what happened, ma'am," John lowers his head. "He was a good pal, helped me a lot whenever he could."
[19:32] <@Kotono> Myann raises an eyebrow, "You know," she murmurs ever so softly to Feather, "The fact that a mere naked woman made out of slime is the native closest to normal so far..."
[19:33] <Gildas> "Does that make you a Sidhe with a water mantle, then?" Gildas asks, to clarify.
[19:34] <@Kotono> "Oh, I see. Lady of the Mushrooms," she waggles a finger, "How amusing of you! Such sadness, I'm sure his grief was a fine show." Tittering, "But by your leave?" Without waiting for Myann to reply, "Elementals don't die. Sillly little human, you can't kill water. You can only break it up. Splashuzu returned here after he was dispersed."
[19:35] <@John> "He did? Oh, wow!" John cheers up suddenly, "Hey Splashuzu, you out there!" he calls, averting his eyes from his friend's bountiful mother in search of the friend himself.
[19:35] <@Kotono> "I am," she confirms, "I am also pleased to be in the presence of the Lady of the Mushrooms. Oh, I heard about your wedding. Marvelous."
[19:36] <Feather> "I don't know where to look," Feather confides in Myann. "Don't know how you call this normal...."
[19:36] <@Kotono> The water ripples and another elemental arises. To the others, it's just another elemental. But John can tell exactly who it is the moment he lays eyes on it.
[19:36] <@John> "Splashuzu!" he cries out joyfully, running into the water to give his old pal a hug!
[19:37] <@Kotono> "Just look at her," she sighs, "It's a Sidhe. I forgive you automatically, since not paying attention could get us in more trouble, Feather."
[19:38] <@Kotono> Said elemental returns a hug in a sort of watery, elemental way.
[19:39] * Feather squeezes Myann's hand.
[19:40] <@John> "This is great!" John says, uncaring of his now soaked state. "I'll try and remember the magic words so I can call you next time I get in trouble underwater, okay? Oh! And I killed that Emperor guy that killed you and Eric and the rest! He's the one that was setting wyverns everywhere."
[19:41] <@Kotono> "Is there anything else, Lady of the Mushrooms?" Ripple asks, "Oh, could I play with one of your servants," she giggles, "It's been a long time since a human man has been this way..." Her gaze is anything but innocent as she looks at the three of them.
[19:42] <@Kotono> Myann returns that squeeze, "You should ask them," she remarks, "But don't even look at Feather," she adds with an open glare.
[19:43] <@John> "... and then we found this huge pit that goes down like way below any caves or anything underground, and there were ghosts and dwarves and ghost dwarves and..." John babbles away happily, sharing his further adventures with an old friend.
[19:45] <@Kotono> As John continues to babble, Ripple glides towards him. Tendrils of ooze come from her body, surrounding him all over without touching. "Oh, such fun I could have with this one," she purrs, "Human, how would you like to drown in me?"
[19:45] <@Kotono> Myann squeezes Feather's hand again. "My servant. No drowning," she cuts in, "I am not amused."
[19:46] <@John> "Wait, what?" John is distracted from his tale by the approach of his friend's mother, turning to look in surprise. And as appealing a figure as she cuts, "I don't wanna drown!"
[19:46] <@Kotono> "Too bad..." The tentacles retreat back into her body. "But feel free to call him again. The tales they tell of their summonings are amusing, human."
[19:47] <@Kotono> "Well, we really should be going," Myann says, entirely too loudly. "Shouldn't we?"
[19:48] <Gildas> "Yes." Gildas says. "It was good to meet you and your children, Lady Ripple." He says as he starts walking with the arrow.
[19:48] <@John> "Alright, I'll see you again soon Splashuzu! Bye Mrs Ripple!" John waves to his friend and his mother as he wades back out of the pond with a spring in his step.
[19:51] <@Kotono> Once the party is out of sight and earshot of the lake, "The sad part is that was still the most normal Sidhe encounter yet."
[19:51] <@Kotono> OOC: Gah.
[19:51] <@Kotono> Once the party is out of sight and earshot of the lake, "The sad part is that was still the most normal Sidhe encounter yet." Myann glances back over her shoulder.
[19:52] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Well, now we know what a Sidhe of water looks like..."
[19:52] <@John> "I got to see Splashuzu again, this day can't get better," John grins, dripping water as he walks, soaked up to the hips. "Never expected his mum to look like that, though..." he concludes with a blush.
[19:55] <@Kotono> OOC: Ready to move along?
[19:55] <Gildas> OOC: Yarr.
[19:57] <@Kotono> roll 1d100-5
[19:57] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100-5 and gets 28." [1d100=33]
[20:01] <@Kotono> The rest of the travel day passes without incident. The party settles down to camp for another night...OOC: Same watch rotation?
[20:01] <Gildas> OOC: That's fine with me
[20:01] <Feather> OOC: auew
[20:02] <Feather> OOC: sure
[20:03] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:03] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 41." [1d100=41]
[20:03] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:03] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 5." [1d100=5]
[20:05] <@Kotono> The night passes in peace. But come morning, the party sees that summer is back. Everything is in high growth and it's already warmer now than it was yesterday afternoon. The trees are now green and lush, no sign of fall's foliage at all.
[20:06] <@John> After waking up fully John comments, "Skipped Winter, huh? That's nice."
[20:07] <Feather> "Yeah, no kidding," Feather agrees, looking around.
[20:08] <Gildas> OOC: Casting Wind at Back and Easy Trail again.

Ebiris

[18:03] <@Kotono> The next day's travels begin...
[18:03] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[18:03] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 41." [1d100=41]
[18:04] <@Kotono> roll 1d100+10
[18:04] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100+10 and gets 63." [1d100=53]
[18:04] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[18:04] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 74." [1d100=74]
[18:06] <@Kotono> The party travels for most of the morning. You're making fine time as you go when you come on a small cave. It's more than large enough to go in, wooden sticks supporting the opening. It curves sharply down into the earth.
[18:07] <@John> "Reckon the arrow wants us to go in there or it's pointing to something past the cave on the ground?" John wonders.
[18:07] <Feather> "Won't hurt if we take a look?"
[18:07] <Gildas> Gildas holds a hand up. "Allow me a moment, I'll find out."
[18:08] <Gildas> He looks thoughtful, then shakes his head. "No, this didn't show up when I saw this area yesterday."
[18:09] <Feather> "Okay," Feather says, staring to head into the cave.
[18:09] <Gildas> "So, whatever it is, it's an outlier because it isn't notable enough to have shown up in my vision." He adds while following after Feather.
[18:09] <@John> "Maybe it wasn't here yesterday?" John wonders, heading in.
[18:09] <@Kotono> Myann follows thoughtfully, "I suppose a side trip won't be the end of the world. Besides, there's always the mushrooms," she murmurs, "I'm listening to them talk about how they grow in clouds in a much higher layer. At least I think it's a higher layer."
[18:11] <Feather> "Any of them down this here cave?"
[18:13] <@Kotono> Going within, you find that the cave veers sharply down. It's not quite a freefall ahead, but going down safely will take some acrobatic work to prevent a tumble. "Mmm...yes. They're new. I mean, they're new grown and born. They're very happy to see me." A small smile works its way onto her face. "The ground here was just disturbed, they say. I think that's what they mean."
[18:15] <@John> "How far down's this go?" John asks, peering down into the darkness.
[18:15] <@Kotono> It goes further than John can see, at the least.
[18:16] <Gildas> "I can check, if you'd like." Gildas offers. "I can just fly down with a lantern."
[18:17] <Feather> "Think we can just head on for now? No need to split up."
[18:18] <Gildas> He nods. "That's fine too, just be careful."
[18:18] <@John> "Can probably manage it if we're careful," John agrees. Besides he wants to try that wall-running thing!
[18:18] <@Kotono> OOC: So are y'all going on down?
[18:20] <@John> OOC: yeah
[18:21] <@Kotono> OOC: How is each of yo ugoing down? Myann'll go birdy and perch on Feather's shoulder, and take to flight if needed/that isn't viable.
[18:22] <@John> OOC: I'll climb/balance down and if I stumble I'll use wall-running to cover 50 feet safely.
[18:22] <@John> OOC: er, 30 feet.
[18:22] <Gildas> OOC: I'll just fly.
[18:23] <Feather> OOC: I'll count on acrobatics and my bracers if I tumble, and try to grab a better perch after I touch down lightly
[18:24] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay. Acrobatics checks, Feather'n'John.
[18:24] <@John> roll 1d20+19
[18:24] * Hatbot --> "John rolls 1d20+19 and gets 33." [1d20=14]
[18:25] <Feather> roll 1d20+17
[18:25] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 1d20+17 and gets 18." [1d20=1]
[18:29] <@Kotono> John and Gildas go down well. Feather starts to go, making about 30ft before he slips. This turns into an outright tumble, Myann letting out a startled cry as she launches off his shoulder. Feather tumbles down 50ft, battered but unwounded thanks to his bracers. At the bottom of this is a massive cavern, a huge underground lake. Several islands are about, filled with mushrooms from shore to
[18:29] <@Kotono> shore. On the farest island sits a large castle, spires rising up to strain against the cavern's roof.
[18:30] <@Kotono> OOC: Gah, premature.
[18:30] <@Kotono> John and Gildas go down well. Feather starts to go, making about 30ft before he slips. [18:30] <@Kotono> shore. On the farest island sits a large castle, spires rising up to strain against the cavern's roof. The entire area is lit by a gentle radiance that comes from the mushrooms, a faintly green glow. From them comes a soft chant of, "'ann, 'ann', 'ann, 'ann'."
[18:31] <@Kotono> Myann lands by Feather, transforming back and then offering him a hand up. Her gaze turns to the mushrooms, "...At least I'm not surprised as when we ran into those dragon mushrooms."
[18:31] <@John> "Oh, is that your castle Myann?" John asks, pointing over at it.
[18:31] <Feather> "Huh." Feather brushes himself off, looking as casual as he can and ignoring the tumble.
[18:32] <@Kotono> "If it is, this is news to me. Then again..." Myann sighs and slowly facepalms, with another and longer sight, "It wouldn't be the first time the Sidhe surprised me."
[18:33] <Feather> "Think you got more castles just waiting for you somewhere here?"
[18:34] <Gildas> Gildas shapeshifts back as well. He casts a quick spell to see if there's anything magical going on in the area!
[18:34] <@Kotono> Gildas can note there is. OOC: Spellcraft.
[18:35] <Gildas> roll 1d20+17
[18:35] * Hatbot --> "Gildas rolls 1d20+17 and gets 24." [1d20=7]
[18:38] <@Kotono> There's fading magic here. It looks like it was used to create this realm - quite powerful and lingering even after the invocation.
[18:39] <Gildas> Gildas seems to nod, more to himself than anything else. "Something... quite strong was used to create all of this. It's fading now, but... It's still very potent."
[18:40] <@John> "Can't be easy making a castle," John agrees. "So we gonna have a look inside?"
[18:40] <Feather> "It's Myann's castle so why not?"
[18:40] <@Kotono> "
[18:40] <@Kotono> "We're not sure it's mine," Myann remarks, but shrugs and takes bird form, starting to fly on over. OOC: How are the rest of you crossing?
[18:41] * Feather just swims over!
[18:41] <Gildas> OOC: Boring old flying.
[18:42] <@John> OOC: wade/swim/hop between islands
[18:44] <@Kotono> As Feather and John go into the water, they bounce off. Just above the surface of the water a white jump block appears, identical to Myann's spell. It sends them bouncing up and forward, where they hit another one just above the surface of the water and continue onwards. Above, Myann stops her flight and circles back around, a noise somewhere between a screech and a strangely confused little
[18:44] <@Kotono> trill.
[18:44] <@John> John laughs in delight at all the bouncy fun!
[18:44] * Feather just adjusts his plan and takes care to land properly on his feet and launch himself ahead!
[18:46] <Gildas> Gildas moves to fly down and land on the other shore with the castle.
[18:48] <@Kotono> Boing! Eventually the party reaches the far side, intact and unharmed. Feather and John are a bit dizzy, but otherwise fine. As the party reorients, you can see the castle has a wide open gate. A voice whispers from all around you, "I await you. Come and meet your destiny."
[18:49] <@John> "That was pretty great," John says, staggering around a bit dizzily after landing.
[18:50] <Feather> "Yeah, Gildas, you missed out," Feather agrees, about to nod but thinking better of it.
[18:50] <Gildas> Gildas looks over to Myann. "You think there's a 'Queen' of the Mushrooms?" He gestures in the direction of the voice.
[18:50] <@Kotono> Myann transforms back, "I don't even know," she mutters, before frowning. "Hello?" she calls. No reply. After, "Anything's possible. I've never heard of another Sidhe with this mantle, though."
[18:51] <Gildas> He nods and starts for the gate! "No better way to find out."
[18:52] <@John> "You'd think there'd be one since we saw a bunch for bees and mushrooms are way more common," John says, shivering a bit at the memory of those bee pixies and folowing Gildas inside.
[18:54] <@Kotono> The party marches within. The castle is strangely barren inside - just a few outlines of walls, more like sketches on reality than actual walls. Far ahead are golden doors, ones that open as you see them. Far ahead is a throne room - and a humanoid figure sits there. A man dressed in rich purple silks, lounging indolently on the throne. He idly twirls a crown around two fingers. He raises his
[18:54] <@Kotono> voice to shout over to you, "Welcome, welcome. Let's get your destiny on the road, Sidhe."
[18:55] <@John> "Hullo," John greets the... king of mushrooms?
[18:56] * Joins: Corwin (~DarkFlame@bzq-79-183-39-26.red.bezeqint.net)
[18:56] <@Kotono> "Oh, come over here if you're going to talk," The figure shouts back. "You have two feet, use them!"
[18:56] <Gildas> Gildas tilts his head at the figure, but continues to move forward. "That's a rather familiar way to greet someone." He says, more to the group than to the figure.
[18:56] <@Kotono> Myann stares a moment, before doing just that.
[18:56] * Corwin is now known as Feather_
[18:56] <@John> "Sure, sure," John says, ambling onwards.
[18:57] <Feather_> Feather follows suit, with a wave for the poncy man.
[18:58] * Quits: Feather (~DarkFlame@bzq-79-183-39-26.red.bezeqint.net) (Ping timeout)
[18:58] * Feather_ is now known as Feather
[19:00] <@Kotono> Once the party gets close enough to chat, you can see the figure is young. He has a smirk seemingly frozen onto his face. He twirls a simple crown idly, paying it no attention. "So welcome. Myann or the Lady of the Mushrooms, whichever you prefer," he waves his other hand dismissively, "Gildas, Feather and John. The Sidhe, well, they like to talk and make a scene out of everything. Let's not.
[19:00] <@Kotono> I'll get right to the point." He sits up and leans forward, tossing the crown aside, "All of you have been up to no good," he waggles a finger, "Stirring up the spiritmen with the fairy killing knife, getting the adoration of the Sidhe - nice trick, by the way, they're always up their own asses so much that simple common sense is a fucking marvel to them - and staying sane. But you also smell
[19:00] <@Kotono> like that lovable little scamp Ribby's handiwork. So why don't you tell me what you're up to?"
[19:01] <Feather> "And you are?"
[19:02] <@Kotono> "Going through this interaction anonymously," he banters back, "Call me Kingmaker if you need a name."
[19:02] <Feather> "No, no. I'm asking if you're some asshole that's after us, or you're trying to become a friend and you're just real awkward about it."
[19:04] <@Kotono> "Boy, your mother dropped you a few times upside your head, didn't she?" he chuckles, "I'm here to decide if you live or die here. I don't care too much, but all the same, I'd rather you all lived. But if you won't play ball, I'll have to kill you, just in case. You know how it is - can't leave loose ends. They always come back to bite you."
[19:05] <@John> "That's not very nice. What's it to you, anyway?" John asks.
[19:06] <Feather> "Plenty of fucked up posers tried," Feather agrees amiably. "Maybe one'll suceed one day. Would be a right shame."
[19:07] <@Kotono> "Business. Since you don't want to talk, here's what I think. You're relatively sane and a Sidhe. You know where that knife is and you've gotten around and then some. Plus that little scamp Ribby's been in touch with you, and you've shown you're the type not to just sit around and take the world as it comes." Glancing at Feather with a smile, all perfectly white teeth, "So let me lay it to you
[19:07] <@Kotono> straight. Are you trying to do something with the fey mantles?"
[19:08] <Feather> "We want to make fey all sane again," Feather responds, being open and honest about it. "If you're against that, do us a favor and be all truthful too?"
[19:08] <@John> "Also it'd be nice if they didn't look all freaky and horrible," John adds.
[19:08] <Gildas> Gildas folds his arms. OOC: Going to try a Sense Motive on what he's talking about.
[19:09] <Feather> "Yeah, that'd be a plus," Feather agrees. "Plus all that fucked up kidnapping. It ain't right."
[19:10] <@Kotono> "Completely. It's really not personal - hell, if I were in your position, I'd be doing the same." Rising with a stretch and a soft pop of joints, "It's in my interests that the Sidhe stay this way. So here's your choice. Stay here. Myann'll grow into her mantle and go delightfully insane. All of you will end up Sidhe with her and part of a court. Truth be told, she has being a Princess in her,
[19:10] <@Kotono> I think. Not a bad way to spend your lives. Once that takes, you won't care about little things like changing the mantles. Otherwise...well..." he makes a throatslashing gesture, "Gotta do what I gotta do. It's a fucked up world, but we want it this way."
[19:11] <Feather> "We who?"
[19:12] <@John> "Well we don't!" John retorts, which is just as valid!
[19:13] <@Kotono> Myann slowly shakes her head, drawing her blade. "No." She says it firmly, "Do you think we'll stop just because you asked nicely?"
[19:13] <Gildas> "You should know that if we were content to let Myann go insane, we would have left her in her house in the first place." Gildas states.
[19:15] <Feather> "So, again, who's this we group? And, uh, no hard feelings since you're the one trying to kill us here and being all poncy and rude?"
[19:16] <@Kotono> He shrugs, "I know. I assumed it would be a fight, but had to try." Stretching once more, "There's a few of us who like this world the way it is. Do you think the rest of us sat aside and let the creatures of the outer spheres and the fey go to war without doing anything?" He stops and drops into a stance, before snapping his fingers and breaking it. "Oh, and by the way, what made you enter the
[19:16] <@Kotono> cave? Just out of curiosity's sake. I was assuming you wouldn't take such an obvious detour."
[19:18] <@John> "Arrow was pointing that way and it was fifty fifty?" John shrugs, raising his staff.
[19:19] <Feather> "As for me... the cave was there. It was strange," Feather responds. "No chance of changing your mind? Hells, change can be good sometimes."
[19:19] <@Kotono> "Right." Going back into position, the man seems more solid now. More formed. He has long brown hair and a smirk on his face, features delicate and pretty. He's slender and looks ill-suited to the stance he takes. "Let's see how well you fight. After all, the Sidhe care about being entertained, don't they?" OOC: Init here. He's 30ft away and in front of the throne.

[19:24] <Gildas> OOC: To be clear, John.

[19:25] <Gildas> Gildas puts a hand on John's staff and infuses it with a cold spell! "Make sure you hit them a lot with it." He says, before he shapeshifts into his Dire Bear form and moves to get into melee with the Green-haired Kingmaker!
[19:25] <Gildas> OOC: Infusion of the Frozen North on your weapon, it's 2d6 cold damage every hit.

[19:29] <@Kotono> As Gildas approaches, the Green Kingmaker chuckles and slashes out, a chop like a knife as he tries to bisect Gildas! "There!"

[19:33] <@Kotono> The Green Kingmaker leaps up, dodging a claw slash as his knife-edge chop slices through the dire bear's chest. It draws a deep cut through, slicing like sharpened steel. Blood gushes out, the wound relentless! OOC: You have a bleeding wound that deals an additional 1 damage per round. This is already reduced by that trait of yours. A heal check  or cure spell fixes it. Feather, you're up.
[19:33] <Gildas> OOC: Roger

[19:39] <@Kotono> Feather leaps in, a whirlwind of focused death as he hacks at the Kingmaker. He manages to hit twice, slicing deep into it. The man makes a little startled cry, "Damn, you're that good already?" he says in disbelief, but nonetheless endures. You slice his arms and side, but he dodges a lethal blow. OOC: It happens, we all do. John.
[19:40] <@John> John holds his staff before him and glares at it, the length of cold-iron capped wood suddenly glowing with a flare of yellow energy that eclipses the bluish-white tint of Gildas's cold magic before subsiding.
[19:40] <@John> OOC: strength of my enemy manifested
[19:40] <Feather> "Not good enough," Feather mutters, hoping that John fixes that part.

[19:47] <@Kotono> The ball bounces about, hitting John in the chest. It bounces off and pelts Myann in the arm, before flying to the side and smacking Gildas in the back. All three burst into flame for a moment, singed deeply by the contact. As they reel from that...OOC: Myann's up.
[19:49] <@Kotono> Myann recovers and focuses, a rain of blocks coming from above at the main kingmaker.

A 3 by 3 block barrier, blocking vision between the blonde kingmaker and the three pelted with the bouncing red ball. OOC: Mass blockade is a swift action. Red kingmaker is up.
[19:52] <@Kotono> The Red Kingmaker advances on John and Myann! He closes in, a palmstrike executed before them. From his empty palm, a glowing dragon-face the size of a giant erupts out, at the two! OOC: Ref saves, you two.

[19:55] <@Kotono> John leaps back, dodging the dragon. Myann isn't so fast, hit hard by the dragon! She reels back, the crack of bone as her free arm bends back and at an awkward angle. Her arm is obviously and visibly broken, the bone poking out just above the elbow. OOC: Has to use her longsword one handed now, plus a -2 penalty ot attack rolls on top of that. Kingmaker's up.

[20:03] <@Kotono> Gildas ignores his wounds and leaps on the green kingmaker. He pins him down and savagely rips into him with both claws, tearing apart his body! Ribs are split and his heart is open! With a snarl Gildas leans down and bites the heart tightly, ripping it right out of his chest. Blood sprays everywhere as the kingmaker vanishes into light. Most of the light flows back to the main kingmaker, but
[20:03] <@Kotono> some flows into Gildas instead. OOC: Feather.

Lighte rupts out of the remnants, most flowing to the red kingmaker, but a bit flows into Feather! OOC: Okay. John, go.

It is utterly broken to the last, light coming out of it. It flies to the blonde kingmaker, save for a bit which goes into John. Blood spatters all over him from the savage beating, strength filling his body. OOC: The ow. Y'lal are returning the pain favor with

[20:14] <@Kotono> The blonde kingmaker staggers as the light flows into him, "Looks like we miscalculated...mistakes were made..." he mutters, spitting out blood despite being unwounded. [20:17] <@Kotono> Myann coughs and curses, before dropping her sword. WIth her unbroken hand, she starts to trace arcane patterns as she stumbles out from the burning blockade. The room is scorch-blasted, but at least stone doesn't burn. Coming 'round it, she sends a plummeling block rain down at the last kingmaker.
[20:17] <@Kotono> roll 10d6
[20:17] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 10d6 and gets 34." [10d6=6, 2, 1, 4, 4, 6, 1, 5, 1, 4]

[20:17] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+12 ref and gets 18." [1d20=6]
[20:19] <@Kotono> Already beaten badly, the kingmaker is smashed under the blocks. When it clears, he lies there, broken and unmoving. Light flies up and dissipates, save for some that goes into Myann. OOC: Free act. Loot post.
[20:19] * Feather lets out a breath, and flicks the blood off his blades before sheathing them properly.
[20:19] <@John> "Whoah..." John looks at his gore-stained staff in amazement. That's some potent mojo!
[20:19] <@Kotono> Myann stumbles over, placing a hand on Feather despite her own look of agony.r
[20:19] <@Kotono> roll 3d8+10
[20:19] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 3d8+10 and gets 20." [3d8=1, 2, 7]
[20:19] <@Kotono> OOC: Healing on Feather.
[20:20] * Feather sags a bit despite the healing, and fumbles for the healing stone to use on Myann.
[20:20] <Feather> roll 3d8+10
[20:20] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 3d8+10 and gets 25." [3d8=3, 7, 5]
[20:21] <@Kotono> "Ugh." The blonde kingmaker gasps, "Hah." He struggles to sit up and fails, coughing up blood before falling back. "How the hell did a bunch of backwoods farmers get so strong?"
[20:21] <Gildas> Gildas shapeshifts back and fumbles a bit with himself, casting a simple cure spell as well as a slower one. OOC: Cure Light and Lesser Vigor
[20:21] <Gildas> roll 1d8+5
[20:21] * Hatbot --> "Gildas rolls 1d8+5  and gets 13." [1d8=8]
[20:22] <@Kotono> OOC: Myann's arm is fixed, as is your ongoing bleed.
[20:22] <@John> "We exercise lots and eat our veggies!" John calls over. "Also I guess I have fantastic mind powers."
[20:22] <Feather> "Still alive?" Feather asks tiredly.
[20:22] <@Kotono> Myann's arm visibly goes back into normal shape, "Thanks," she whispers to FEather, turning over towards him. "Rot in hell," she snaps back. "How many people went mad listening to these voices, and you want to keep it this way?"
[20:23] * Feather uses the stone on himself, shaking his head.
[20:23] <Feather> roll 3d8+10
[20:23] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 3d8+10 and gets 13." [3d8=1, 1, 1]
[20:24] <@Kotono> The kingmaker - you notice his hair is brown again, despite being blonde a moment ago - manages to roll onto his side and sit up. He coughs up more blood, looking up and around at you. He tries to rise by fails, "Ugh..." Coughing once more and lying still, "For what it's worth, I understand and I'm sorry. Just have to do what I have to do."

[20:28] <Gildas> "I think you owe us a ... more comprehensive explanation." Gildas manages to get out, despite still being injured rather severely.
[20:29] <@Kotono> "In too far, in too deep," he mutters, sounding like he's drowning. "You'll see." he stays still again, no more words coming.
[20:30] <Feather_> "He dead for good this time?"
[20:30] <@Kotono> Myann shakes her head, healing herself with a few words.
[20:30] <@Kotono> roll 3d8+10
[20:30] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 3d8+10 and gets 27." [3d8=7, 7, 3]
[20:31] <@John> "Hey, anyone got any healing for me?" John asks as his fantastic mind powers recede. "I'm not really bad off but he scorched me up a bit."
[20:31] <Gildas> "Probably a friend of Ribby's... who suffered a different fate." Gildas says with a wince. "Isn't that what Ribby said to us? He looked too far and too deep?"
[20:31] <@Kotono> As her wounds heal, "Who else needs healing?" she asks, going over to him. "Or just someone who did that in general. Look at how the Sidhe turn out. Look at how the Stratum is." Myann goes to John andthe Gildas, healing both of them.
[20:31] <@Kotono> roll 3d8+10 John

[20:32] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 3d8+10 Gildas coudl use another, actually and gets 19." [3d8=4, 4, 1]
[20:33] <@John> "Thanks," John says, catching Feather's stone. "I'm actually good now," he admits embarrassedly.
[20:33] <@Kotono> "I'd comment on the mindset here, but...what's the point," Myann shrugs, "We know people go mad when they look too far, or otherwise reach a miserable end. He was probably just another victim, one who grew to like it in some way, or was naturally cruel."
[20:34] <@John> "Well, I reckon we'll see more like him before long," John says, "We gonna head back up top and carry on our way?"
[20:34] <Feather_> Feather makes his way over to the kingmaker and prods his body with his sword just in case.
[20:34] <@Kotono> OOC: Have any ranks in Heal?
[20:35] <Feather_> "Anything worth looking over in this castle?" he asks Myann, since it was meant for her.
[20:35] <@Kotono> "I'll look around," Myann says, going to do just that. OOC: Do you?
[20:36] <Gildas> Gildas moves over to check the Kingmaker's body to see if there was anything else he was hiding that he didn't have a chance to use!
[20:38] <Gildas> OOC: I do have ranks in heal if somehow I cross the threshold of needing to use it.
[20:39] <@Kotono> OOC: Gimme a sec, I just want to resolve this and that, and then we'll pause for the week.
[20:39] <@Kotono> OOC:F eather, any ranks in heal?
[20:40] <@John> OOC: he doesn't
[20:40] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, thanks.
[20:41] <@Kotono> Checking him over, Gildas can see he's truly dead. Feather's sword poke reinforces that. OOC: I'll post what you find on him over the weekend. Let's pause here.
[20:41] <Gildas> OOC: No problemo.

Ebiris

[18:18] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The battle is over. The Kingmaker lies dead and the party is victorious. A search of the castle reveals that it's all the same - sketched in, almost. Like a design that didn't make it past the concept drawing. Many parts seem almost ethereal, like a phantasm that is somehow visible to you. Despite this, you find nothing of great interest about it. The party ends up in the throne room once more,
[18:18] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> the items found on the Kingmaker lying around him. OOC: Act, y'all.
[18:19] <@John> "Well he didn't bring any of that stuff for our health," John says, keeping back from the dropped items. "We just gonna leave all this and head back up top?"
[18:19] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Myann stays well away from it all, "Where did they get things like that? Did they make them themselves?" Myann asks, her voice having a note of worry in it. "I've never heard of things this powerful for Sidhe."
[18:20] <Gildas> "I'd be curious to find out if we can somehow break the curse on these ... Perhaps the Sidhe we're looking for could help with that, if we find them in some sort of good mood to help us?" Gildas shakes his head. "I'd like to think we could repurpose them, somehow."
[18:20] * Feather snorts. "Actually, I figure he did us a favor!" he voices. "See, we keep them but don't use them. Then, once we change this mantle stuff so it doesn't make fey crazy, we'll just give the crown and such to Myann. Heck, I might even try that scroll myself when we're there."
[18:22] <@John> "Better you than me," John says, distrusting the dubious 'gifts' that were offered to put them off their quest.
[18:22] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "That may not be a bad idea. We can always find out more about them if we come across someone willing to offer their expertise."
[18:23] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "They make me uneasy," Myann admits slowly, "I quite don't know why. Maybe I'm just shaken." Slowly breathing in and out, looking away, "Let's take them and get going then. I'd rather be done with this entire place."
[18:24] <Gildas> Gildas nods and puts the items away and then blinks. "Will everyone be okay to get back out?"
[18:26] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: Post in loot that you're taking them.
[18:26] <@John> "Don't see why not," John shrugs, heading back. Might have to wade through the water and climb up that slope, but that's hardly a challenge to an adventurer like him.
[18:28] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The party heads back out. The bounce-trip back is uneventful and enjoyable. The party reaches the upward slope...OOC: Quick acrobatics check, Feather and John.
[18:29] <@John> roll 1d20+19
[18:29] * Hatbot --> "John rolls 1d20+19 and gets 29." [1d20=10]
[18:30] <Feather> roll 1d20+17
[18:30] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 1d20+17 and gets 19." [1d20=2]
[18:33] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The party goes up - except FEather, who takes a tumble early on. But he gets back up, his bracers protecting him - at least that time, it wasn't a far fall. OOC: Make a second check.
[18:33] <Feather> roll 1d20+17
[18:33] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 1d20+17 and gets 35." [1d20=18]
[18:37] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> This time he makes it back up without difficulty. Thus the party emerges into the gloom of the woods once more. The area around the cave is now covered in mushrooms of all shape and sizes. They grow form the ground, up trees and on leaves and even on the mouth of the cave.
[18:38] <@John> "So around the cave and then on South?" John figures, circling past the new profusion of mushrooms so he can pass the cave by.
[18:39] <Gildas> Gildas confirms it with the arrow!
[18:40] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Myann lingers, kneeling before a few of the mushrooms and patting others. The arrow indeed points south in the meanwhile.
[18:41] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: Moving on then, I presume?
[18:41] <Gildas> "Did they get woken up by that man's creation of this cave?" Gildas asks while he steps around, intent on resuming their travel south.
[18:42] <Gildas> OOC: Yar
[18:42] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "The mushrooms? They just grew recently," Myann says, "They're happy we won." She's smiling as she stops before a few more, "It's strange. I'm not sure if I'm getting better at understanding them, if I'm inflecting more intelligent traits on them or if they're getting smarter. But they're happy we won, all of us. They're even mentioning Feather by name. 'ather."
[18:45] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> From there, the party continues on. A brief stop for lunch is uneventful. In the afternoon, you can begin to see the woods thin out some. You can't see what's ahead yet, but based on distance traveled, it may be the nymphs.
[18:47] <Gildas> Gildas looks at the others. "How would you like to proceed? Go around them?"
[18:47] <@John> "Yes," John says instantly.
[18:47] * Feather nods uneasily.
[18:48] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "It's easier than dealing with them," Myann says, "There might be things of interest there, but it the trouble we could get into..." A slow, long shake of her head.
[18:48] <@John> "Oh Pelor they're here already!" John despairs. "Run!" and then he starts sprinting ahead lest he see something awful.
[18:48] <Feather> "What?! Where?"
[18:48] <Gildas> Gildas is about to turn to go into another direction when John suddenly runs off! "U...ah...?" Gildas looks around.
[18:49] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I don't see anything...John!" Myann calls as he runs off and ahead.
[18:49] <Feather> "They're right there!" Feather calls after him.
[18:49] <@John> "Just run, they're everywhere!" John shouts back, panicked.
[18:50] <Gildas> roll 1d20+15
[18:50] * Hatbot --> "Gildas rolls 1d20+15 and gets 34." [1d20=19]
[18:51] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: So running straight ahead then, John?
[18:52] <@John> OOC: I'll start veering off to the left since I do know there's a nymph town ahead
[18:52] <Gildas> Gildas frowns, then seems to shake off something. "We should at least go after him so he doesn't get into any more trouble, right?" Gildas says as he starts to move after John!
[18:52] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> John runs off, Gildas following. Myann curses and takes to mushroom hawk form, following.
[18:53] <Feather> Cursing, Feather rushes after John!
[18:54] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: Movement speeds, all?
[18:55] <@John> OOC: 60
[18:55] <Feather> OOC: 50ft
[18:55] <Gildas> OOC: 60
[18:55] <@John> OOC: I'll probably calm down after a minute or two and figure I've made a clean getaway.
[18:56] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> John starts by getting speed, but as he does...OOC: Will save, John. Mind-affecting so mods to that apply.
[18:56] <@John> roll 1d20+13 +2 if enchantment
[18:56] * Hatbot --> "John rolls 1d20+13 +2 if enchantment and gets 31." [1d20=18]
[18:59] <@John> "Stay away from that clearing!" John howls in warning to the others, running as if the hounds of hell were after him.
[19:01] <Gildas> "I thought that was the idea?" Gildas asks the others as he continues to try and keep up with John.
[19:02] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The others follow. John eventually slows as he makes more distance from it, the others catching up as everyone gulps down air. OOC: You said you were stopping after a few and they can't really keep up, so this. Go on ahead, y'all.
[19:02] <@John> "Phew, I think that did it..." John says, turning to look back. "Scared the life out of me..."
[19:03] <Gildas> "What in the world did you see?" Gildas asks. "Myann couldn't see them either, so they if they were there... some kind of invisibility even you can't see?"
[19:03] * Feather rests his hands on his knees, peering at John. "Not gonna spring off again, are you?"
[19:04] <@John> "Not see..." John shakes his head, "Heard," he taps an ear. "She wanted me to... keep her company," he shudders.
[19:06] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I...didn't see anything?" Myann says amid gulps of air. "You...heard?"
[19:06] <Feather> "Fuck that. Let's keep away from the nymphs?"
[19:06] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Slowly panting as she rises up from hand son knees and straightens, "She wanted you to keep her company? Was she bored?"
[19:07] <@John> "Uh... she wanted a man specifically," John clarifies blushing.
[19:08] <Gildas> Gildas checks the arrow to be sure they don't need to go to nymph-town.
[19:08] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> It's still pointing south and not towards Grailholm.
[19:08] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "...oh." Myann coughs, "Best to move on."
[19:09] <Gildas> Gildas nods again and starts to continue south. "Let's get out of here, then."
[19:10] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> roll 1d100
[19:10] * Hatbot --> "Infinite_Ko_Loop rolls 1d100 and gets 53." [1d100=53]

[19:10] * Hatbot --> "Infinite_Ko_Loop rolls 1d100 and gets 87." [1d100=87]
[19:10] <@John> "Yeah... I mean, that's the stuff out of stories," John says, still a bit red-faced, "But the stories made you think nymphs were just beautiful elves, not... uh, whatever they are."
[19:11] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: REady to move along then, y'all?
[19:11] <@John> OOC: yeah
[19:11] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The rest of the day passes without incident. The party settles down to rest. Over a dinner of captured rabbit and mushrooms, "I wonder how far we have to go?" Myann asks, "Every day we travel means another day to travel back." The arrow still points south, onwards further.
[19:13] <Gildas> "Well, the Dreamer said it'd be a long journey. I'm going to see where we are tomorrow so we don't run afoul of anything strange... well, that we can prevent, anyway." Gildas says.
[19:13] <Feather> "Doubt we'll get sent somewhere we can't reach in a month or so?" Feather muses.
[19:14] <@John> "Easy enough to live off the land anyway," John shrugs, accepting that this could take awhile.
[19:14] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I hope," Myann says, "I want to be back by harvest time at worst." OOC: Going to heal up before bed, y'all?
[19:16] <Gildas> OOC: If possible.
[19:17] <Feather> roll 3d8+10 me
[19:17] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 3d8+10 me and gets 30." [3d8=6, 6, 8]
[19:17] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: Myann has plenty of charges, so assume full healing for all.
[19:18] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> OOC: So top off your HPs. Same night watch as before?
[19:18] <Gildas> OOC: Yar

[19:18] * Hatbot --> "Infinite_Ko_Loop rolls 1d100+5 and gets 84." [1d100=79]
[19:19] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> It's near dawn. Myann is the only one up, the other party members asleep. But from their slumber, they are roused by the sound of Myann's laughter.
[19:20] <@John> "Mwuh?" John grumbles and sits up, groggily looking around.
[19:20] <Gildas> Gildas cracks an eye open. Isn't that sound usually a bad portent?
[19:22] <Feather> It's early enough, Feather realizes upon waking, that there's no point in going back to sleep. "We got any visitors?" he asks her, rubbing at his eyes.
[19:22] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Sitting before the fire is Myann and a tree slime. It looks like one of the slimes that has fallen on the party before. Except that a few tiny skulls float in it, on the surface of the ooze. Each of them laughs happily, as half a dozen pixie wings jut from one side. They drizzle pixie dust on the ground below them. "That's so entertaining!" The ooze says cheerfully, "I bet he's a great catch!"
[19:23] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Oh!" The slime wobbles and wiggles, "There he is!" It comes from all the tiny skulls in it, the voice that of a cheerful woman. "Hi there, Feather! It's so nice to see humans on this side!"
[19:24] <@John> "No...." John says slowly, certain that what he's seeing and hearing can't be real. "This is just a dream right? I've been having weird ones since we got here, this is one too, isn't it?"
[19:24] <Feather> "Hi... uh. Myann? Help?"
[19:26] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Her name is Becky," Myann says, "She's not a Sidhe, but she is intelligent. Honestly, she's the best conversationalist I've found over here."
[19:27] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Hi!" The slime insists, "I'm not a Sidhe, even if I ate a few once upon a time." The slime's green color turns a bright red, "Once you pack on a few skulls and wings, a girl just can't get rid of them, I do declare."
[19:28] <Gildas> "I... ...er... ...can all slimes talk...?" Gildas asks, sitting up fully.
[19:28] <@John> Not a dream then. Damn. "Are you gonna eat us?"
[19:29] <Feather> "Or we could get rid of those skulls for you. If you like. Probably. Can we?"
[19:30] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "No and no," She slowly turns back to her normal color, "I accidentally ate some Sidhe who didn't agree with me. It's a long story that's not very interesting. Some heroes freed me." It burbles happily, a loud trill coming from it. "Maybe. I like being able to think, and I started being able to think when I got these, dearie. Did you know that slimes like me can't get mantles? At least I can't,
[19:30] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> so the Sidhe tolerate me as long as I don't bore them."
[19:32] <@John> "So what if you get to dull they'll kill you?" John asks, slowly gaining a small amount of sympathy for the awful slime monster.
[19:32] <Feather> "Or they try and you eat them?"
[19:33] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Something like that. So I keep moving so I don't get boring," she says, "And you're John and you're Gildas, right?" she says, "Nice to meet you! Oh!" Giving John a look over, "I can see why that Missy-Anne is all over you! Yeowza!"
[19:34] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Myann giggles again, "Her name is Fairy Rose, or just Rose."
[19:34] <@John> "I thought it was Becky..." John says, growing more confused. "And how's she even know about Missy-Anne?"
[19:35] <Gildas> "That's... a rather morbid way to gain sentience." Gildas says. "But... it's not the most strange thing we've come across, at least! It's good to meet... you? Sorry, I've never met a slime, so I don't mean to be impolite."
[19:37] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I told her," Myann admits, "We got to talking and...oh. That's what the Sidhe call her, Fairy Rose. Sorry. I lost perspective there a moment," Shaking her head, "It's easier over here."
[19:38] <@John> "Oh, okay," John accepts that, laying back down.
[19:38] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I call myself Becky," she explains, "I'm right flattered to meet all of you. You're better talkers than the fairies. You know how they are - it's rather boring after awhile. They all go insane in the same way, ultimately."
[19:39] <Gildas> "Do you live on this side?" Gildas asks.
[19:43] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The ooze ripples in something approaching a nod. "Yes. Most humans run from slimes or get fire out. It's safer over here," she sniffles, "No offense.
[19:43] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "
[19:44] <Feather> "Can see why it would happen," Feather agrees, finding himself nodding as well. "World's a dangerous place. People like to be safe so they won't be sorry?"
[19:44] <@John> "They do fall out of trees aiming for your head to be fair," John says.
[19:44] <Feather> "Yeah, no kidding! As if slimes aren't terrifying enough on their own!"
[19:45] <Gildas> "Were they all as good natured as Becky." Gildas says with a nod.
[19:45] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "It's the best way to hunt," Becky admits with a titter, "It's really not refined, though! Oh, it's so embarrassing to talk about that! It's like I'm some violent, nasty thing!" She tints bright red again. "You won't tell a soul, will you?"
[19:46] <Feather> "No one would believe us if we did," Feather admits reasonably.
[19:46] <@John> "Secret's safe with me..."
[19:50] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Thank you!" She giggles, "It's just so nice to meet all of you! I heard you have a nice farm on your side?"
[19:51] <Feather> "Yeah. It's a town by now, though."
[19:52] <@John> "S'gettin' pretty big," John agrees sleepily.
[19:53] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "It sounds nice! Since you have a fairy there and all sorts of interesting people..." she trails off, oozing up to them all, "Do you think there's space for me there? I can pull my weight! Zygraats like me, too!"
[19:54] <Feather> "What can slimes actually do?"
[19:54] <Gildas> Gildas blinks. "She'd probably fit in just fine with Forgar..."
[19:54] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Eh?" Myann cocks her head to the side, "You want to live there?"
[19:55] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> The slime takes to the air and starts to fly, pixie dust falling from her wings. "I can fly around," she does a loop of the campsite before landing. "I can dissolve just about anything with my acid. If you put it into special containers, you can throw it like a weapon."
[19:56] <Feather> "Uh, sorry. I get that you're even more terrifying than any regular slime," Feather says placatingly. "Was just asking if you had any skills that won't make the townsfolk all scared."
[19:56] <Gildas> "Might be able to make some really strong Holy Explosives with that." Gildas notes.
[19:58] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Oh, skills?" She nods, "Here." She flies over Feather and sprinkles fairy dust all over him. "Come up and get me!"
[19:59] * Feather still can't qute process that a slime is nodding at him, but he does peer at it obligingly. "Can't fly, Becky," he says. "Unless that's what the fairy dust's for?"
[20:01] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Sure it. I can make people fly!" She says cheerfully, "Just think that you want to go up and you can. It doesn't last forever, but I can make virtually anyone able to fly. Now isn't that not scary?"
[20:02] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Myann glances at Feather and murmurs, "It's your choice," she says, "All of yours."
[20:02] <@John> "S'pretty neat," John agrees sleepily.
[20:02] * Feather thinks of up!
[20:04] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Feather drifts right on up, like flying is easy and natural. It's sort of like Myann's spell, but a little slower but with no tail wiggling.
[20:04] <Gildas> "Let me ask you a potentially odd question, Becky. There are a lot of children at the town... if they run up and touch you, will they get hurt?" Gildas looks up at her. "Or can you make yourself not acidic?"
[20:04] <Feather> "It's pretty neat," Feather agrees, thinking of circling their campsite and touching down.
[20:06] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> As Feather flies around, "I can a little bit," she says, "But not for long. See if I move the burny parts of me, but it's like stretching. You can't do it forever, dearie."
[20:07] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Well, I think as long as we're aware of that, we can figure something out."
[20:07] <Feather> "No reason why not. I mean, why you couldn't come over," Feather says. "S'not like you want to stay in the town square and around kids or anything. You just wanna live nearby and hang out sometimes?"
[20:09] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I'd like that! Thank you thank you thank you!" The slime lands and cheers, "I promise I won't make trouble or look for entertainment or anything like that!"
[20:10] <Feather> "Thing is, we're not going there now," Feather muses. "And it'd be a bad idea to go over without us, I reckon. So wanna travel with us or wait for us somewhere here or what?"
[20:10] <@John> "So she coming on our trip or meeting on the way back or what?" John asks.
[20:13] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I can wait here. Myann told me what fairy circle you came through," Becky says, "I'll be just on the other side of that. I can wait, too!"
[20:14] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Hopefully it won't be too long, then."
[20:16] <Feather> "Sounds like a plan!"
[20:16] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Thank you!" Becky gushes, flying up, "Then I'll see you there! Then we'll go back and..." Giggling to herself, the slime flies off.
[20:19] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> Myann sits back and chuckles, before replying, "That was different."
[20:20] <Gildas> "But not... entirely unexpected?" Gildas asks. "I mean... considering where we are..."
[20:21] <Feather> "Just between us, you sure Becky wasn't a fey?" Feather feels the need to confirm with Myann.
[20:22] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I'm sure." Myann says, "You know Sidhe can tell other Sidhe? It's just something we can do, and she's not one."
[20:23] <@John> "Still weird though," John says.
[20:23] <@Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I'll take weird and friendly here," Myann goes to the campfire, starting to stir it up. "Now who wants mushrooms for breakfast?"

[18:48] <@Kotono> The next two days pass without incident. The party makes good and unremarkable time, proceeding further south. Gildas's spells and simple luck result in nothing worse than a few oddities. Early in the third morning, not long after starting, you come to another clearing. Here is a rather large castle, surrounded by a moat. It's something out of a bard's tale, red banners flying from the towers.
[18:48] <@Kotono> The gate is open and the drawbridge is down, but no one is immediately around.
[18:49] <@John> "Any idea what fairy lives here?" John asks. "Or is it another trap?"
[18:49] <Gildas> OOC: I'm going to take some time to cast Lay of the Land since we're here.
[18:50] <@Feather> "How about we circle it to see if we're going here?"
[18:50] <@Kotono> OOC: How long is the casting time?
[18:50] <Gildas> OOC: 3 rounds.
[18:50] <@Kotono> "Good idea," Myann says to Feather.
[18:51] <@Kotono> OOC: Make a spellcraft check, Gildas.
[18:51] <Gildas> roll 1d20+17
[18:51] <Serith> Gildas roll for Serith < 27 > [d20=10]
[18:52] <@Kotono> Feather goes around. The arrow continues pointing south from the castle. Meanwhile, Gildas casts. The spell shudders and whimpers, before crumbling. Based on his knowledge and analysis of what happened, Gildas can tell that something on him or the party is interfering with the divination, by giving off too much power. It's making the spell focus on that instead of going out properly.
[18:57] <@Kotono> "Well? Anything?" Myann asks as things stretch on.
[18:58] <Gildas> Gildas blinks. He shakes his head. "No, I... I think the items we have are interferring with the divination."
[18:58] <@Feather> "Let's go and take a look?"
[18:59] <Gildas> He nods. "I suppose there's no harm in at least looking, right? What's the worst that could happen?"
[19:00] <@John> There's probably a lot of answers to that, but John sticks with his friends in invading the castle.
[19:01] <@Kotono> Thus the party crosses the bridge to within. The courtyard is empty, about 300ft from the end of the drawbridge to the doors leading within. Far to the side is a stable, which is closed shut. Far away, at the door to within the castle, several golden blocks float in the air around it.
[19:03] <Gildas> Gildas looks up at the blocks. "Curious."
[19:04] <@Kotono> Myann walks along, "More of those?" she asks aloud, "I wish I knew why my power made those in the first place. For that matter, I wish it did what I want instead of doing its own thing like this."
[19:04] <@John> "That mean it's gonna be another guy like Kingmaker in here?" John asks.
[19:04] <@Feather> "Maybe whoever's here will tell us?" Feather muses, heading for the doors. "And it might be another one-- yeah, what John said."
[19:06] <@Kotono> "Might be," Myann draws her crystal sword as you approach the doors. They're closed. There are grand doors within and smaller doors near them, too. As you approach, the great doors open wide, showing a gray stone hallway about 40ft wide. A set of stairs soon go down for 4 steps, before the hall continues. Just past that is a 15ft long chasm taking up the entire hall, with reddish light coming
[19:06] <@Kotono> from it. Past that, the passage continues to around a bend.
[19:08] <Gildas> "...Well that's interesting." Gildas says, looking over and down into the chasm to see if he can see a bottom.
[19:09] <@Kotono> "Am I the only one that smells a deathtrap?" Myann asks aloud, before sighing and pinching the bridge of her nose, eyes closed shut. As Gildas goes over, he sees that the chasm falls for about 30ft. The bottom is filled with lava. Heat rises up from it, but not as much as he would expect. It's unpleasantaly warm, but not immediately harmful at this distance.
[19:10] <@Feather> "If there's only deathtraps here, we're leaving!" Feather calls out loudly.
[19:11] <@John> "I dunno, where there's deathtraps there's treasure, right?" John reasons. "'Course if it's bad treasure like that guy had guess we don't want any."
[19:13] <@Kotono> "As you like it," A deep voice says from behind the party. It's a powerful baritone, all manliness. "It worked with the Kingmaker, so why not try again? If you fall to your deaths in the lava, that works fine."
[19:14] <@John> "Yeah, time to go," John says, turning and heading back out.
[19:15] <@Feather> "Yeah, sounds like," Feather agrees, following suit. "Unless you really wanna fight for no good reason?"
[19:16] <@Kotono> Myann turns around as well. Blocking the way out is a mountain of a man. He's about 10 feet tall, all bulging muscles and more bulging muscles. A giant iron quarterstaff is in one hand, like a walking stick. He wears simple peasant clothing and has sharp blue eyes and matching long hair. "Kingmaker tried that, didn't work." He shrugs, going to take a few steps back. A deep-backed chair big enough
[19:16] <@Kotono> for him appears, which he sinks into. "So that didn't work, I'll give it to you straight. We want to keep the fey this way, and quite honestly, you're dangerous enough to change them."
[19:17] <@John> "We don't like the fey this way," John retorts. "They're creepy and awful."
[19:17] <@Feather> "Yeah, are you gonna say that the way they are is keeping even worse things away or something?"
[19:18] <@Kotono> "No, not really. The aberrations aren't coming back anytime soon. They lost decisively." Taking a moment to rest his pole against his knee, "But keeping the fey this way keeps them occupied. A mad fey won't use the full power of their mantle. Won't even come close."
[19:19] <@Feather> "So wait. If we say we'll limit the full power of their mantles if we do manage to fix things, you'll stop trying to kill us?"
[19:20] <Gildas> Gildas stays quiet for the time being!
[19:20] <@John> "But a fey that's not mad might not use their mantle for kidnapping people or looking freaky," John reasons.
[19:24] <@Kotono> "Won't happen." Shaking his head, "What you want, there's only two ways it'll happen. Well three, since dying before you get there is possible. Likely." Ticking off fingers, "You destroy the mantles. It kills most of the fey - and being right there, Myann's dead for certain - and the remainder slowly re-establish a new society. Knocks them out for generations and generations. The thing is, the
[19:24] <@Kotono> mantle system needs a guiding principal. The one that's in there now is what's causing all of this." Gesturing far and wide, "The entire fey and fey realm being what it is. What it is? It's a fully realized mantle. If you want to maintain it, you need to provide it another mantle, one that isn't stunted by the madness inflicted on other mantles. In a way, it's what you've wanted," Myann gets a
[19:24] <@Kotono> look, "But imagine your mantle's power spreading out to the entire Vastwoods and beyond once it takes that position." Reaching up and tapping one of the golden blocks, "You wonder why that's happening? Your mantle's developing like it should be, instead of what kept in the same stale patterns by fey insanity. Mantles are meant to marshal the powers of a concept and allow it to affect the world
[19:24] <@Kotono> around them. It gives a lot of power and was just thet hing the fey needed to beat the aberrations. But having countless fey with the powers of demigods running around afterwards was...inadvisable."
[19:27] <Gildas> "You sound like you must be from the Stratum." Gildas says. "All this talk of controlling things, as if you're trying to control the evolution of other people."
[19:28] <@Feather> "Just how many fey are there? You know?"
[19:30] <@Kotono> "No, not really," he says, "They're a whole different thing and unrelated. They're a bunch of annoyances up there, but they had a good idea with Unison. That's all." Standing up now, staff back in hand, "We just happen to be those who also benefit from this scheme, and don't really want to nearly genocide the fey." He shrugs after this, "Tens of thousands? Hundreds? Between changing the world
[19:30] <@Kotono> by a mantle, leaving things tinged with madness but intact or massacring the fey, we chose the middle. Why do you think power leads to madness? It's to prevent people from getting as close as you are and changing the status quo. Somehow you've avoided that while gaining power."
[19:31] <@Feather> "So we did something you made sure peoeple couldn't? That's what you're telling us?"
[19:32] <@Kotono> "Exactly. You all are anomalies. Mistakes." Hefting his staff up with one hand, "A few powerful people going insane and a kingdom of disturbed fey are the choice we made. Better the problem we know and can control than letting some upstarts change things wildly."
[19:34] <@Feather> "So, uh, what makes you think there are only three choices?"
[19:35] <@John> "I reckon whatever we change'll end up bad for you and your pals, but I also reckon it'll be better for everyone else," John says, figuring they're not being any kind of altruistic.
[19:35] <Gildas> "So you're going to try and repeat the same mistake Kingmaker did by trying to kill us?" Gildas says, since this appears to be leading to a fight.
[19:36] <@Kotono> "It's what we figured out with the system," He says, "And like hell if we're going to invite you to it to try and find a fourth. If you're hellbent on trying, we'll kill you. You're not the first time someone's started this path. So put it aside." He offers a hand out, "Join us instead. Put aside this quest. You'll gain access to powers and magic long lost. We even have something that will help
[19:36] <@Kotono> with Myann's mantle, without driving her mad."
[19:38] <@Feather> "How about you join us instead?" Feather offers, extending his own hand towards him. "We can find that fourth choice you'll like, and you could have a say in what's going on."
[19:40] <Gildas> Gildas folds his arms, not expecting that to be taken very well.
[19:41] <@Kotono> The man's hand is withdrawn. He slowly rolls his neck, rubbing the back of it. "Mmm, I think not." he says, "I don't trust you not to betray me when it matters. Besides, I don't think you'll find a fourth way."
[19:42] <@John> "Such little faith," John shakes his head.
[19:42] <@Kotono> "He's dealt with fey for how long?" Myann asks, "But the way things now are intolerable. Being afraid to change something is meaninglessness if what is here is horrible."
[19:42] <Gildas> Gildas sighs. "I suppose we'll have to beat it into him."
[19:43] <@Feather> "Hey now! We're not the betraying kind! You should know that much!" Feather exclaims, offended.
[19:44] <@Kotono> He pauses here a moment, "What choice would you  make, when you find out there's no fourth way?"
[19:45] <@John> "I'd do the one that doesn't kill a bunch of random fairies," John admits.
[19:47] <@Kotono> "So you'd let Myann's mantle change the world? What will happen when the sort of things you've seen around her mantle," He reaches out and taps another golden block, "Are common as trees and dirt? When they're features of the world, not anomalies?"
[19:47] <@Feather> "I'll wait," Feather voices. "And I won't fight my friends here, but I'll ask them to wait too. Maybe we won't find a better way right now, but we could later? So it's not like there's a real rush here."
[19:47] <@Kotono> "I think I've done a good job at making those things beneficial," Myann shoots back.
[19:48] <Gildas> "Putting things into such black and white terms gives little options for any kind of innovation on ideas. Besides, we haven't even reached the end of the journey we're currently making, so until we do, asking us what we'd do with your two options isn't fair."
[19:49] <@John> "S'not like even the one that shoots you in the air's any more dangerous than a deadly animal or plant. Least it doesn't hunt people down or anything."
[19:51] <@Kotono> "You don't get it, do you?" The man glares at Gildas, "There is no other option. You think we didn't try? We know better than you," he says with a note of finality, "You may think you have a good cause, but what you're doing is a mistake we can't tolerate." Then to John, "Then what about when people are as much mushroom as flesh?" Poking, "Want to have a mushroom instead of hair, John?"
[19:53] <@Feather> "What about a mantle of friendship?" Feather asks. "There's one for everything, yeah? Even things like nobility?"
[19:53] <@John> "Uh... j-no!" John blurts out, a hand going protectively to his hair. "But Myann's got regular hair!"
[19:54] <Gildas> "Yes, you also never thought people like us could exist. I'm sure Kingmaker didn't think it was possible for him to be defeated, either." Gildas responds, anger in the tone of his voice starting to bleed in. "You've spent so long controlling how everything works, but we're 'mistakes,' that somehow got through. That disproves your entire theory that is isn't possible."
[19:55] <@Kotono> "There's-" He starts to reply to Feather, but Gildas interrupts him. His eyes widen a bit before he growls, "Fine, we're not infalliable. But we're not going to give up everything we've worked for and feels is best just because some anomalies can change things. Tell me. Tell me one thing that can prove that you can do better than we have. One thing. If you can do that, I'll stand aside. What do
[19:55] <@Kotono> you have that can trump centuries of learning, effort and skill?"
[19:57] <@John> "We've got a fairy?" John guesses. They probably don't have a sane fey of their own, right?
[19:57] <@Feather> "We're talking to you instead of trying to kill you or giving up?"
[19:57] <@Kotono> "The will to try." Myann says, "You don't sound like you know better. You sound like a dog that's been thrashed by his master, so many times that he does what he's told because he 'knows better'. He's really just too afraid to try again."
[19:57] <Gildas> "Isn't that obvious?" Gildas says. "Determination. We've overcome every challenge put in front of us and become stronger for it. We've built bridges where people like you would have thought impossible. Feather and Myann are probably the first couple of the type ever... all because they were determined to not fall victims to their pre-determined fate."
[19:58] <Gildas> He nods to the others as well. "If you want to plant your feet and get in the way of our determination like everyone else, we'll go through you, just like everyone else."
[19:58] * @Feather snorts. "What we've got is more than one answer, sounds like. And we work with that. Think we'll do even better if you add your own to ours."
[20:00] <@Kotono> Here he hesitates a moment - not long, but it's enough to be noticed. His eyes narrow. "Any obsticle, eh? The will to try? A sane fey? Talking? Try this." Suddenly, a door appears behind the man. He goes in it like he's sucked in, then appears atop the stable away. The door again appears and then he appears at the gate, and a third time and he's back where he is. "Dimension Door. One of the
[20:00] <@Kotono> spells we ensured was lost." He sits down, "If you can manage the same spell or some form of it, I'll concede."
[20:01] <@Feather> "Really?" Feather peers at him in disappointment. "You think it all comes down to magic in the end?"
[20:02] * @John shrugs. "Seems a bit of a strange measuring stick to me."
[20:02] <@Kotono> "Figure it out," he drawls, "You think you can find a fourth way? I fyou can't figure out this spell and recreate it, you have no hope at all. This isn't a problem you can beat in - the mantle system's pure magic."
[20:03] <Gildas> "I could do it. Not the same spell by any means... But I think I could manage to do that." Gildas says. "It might take some time."
[20:04] <@Kotono> "Maybe," Myann says, starting to think, "I wish I'd paid more attention to spell theory," she adds under her breath. "Maybe my mantle..."
[20:09] * @Feather reluctantly decides to study the magic that was used by the insistent man.

Safe and reliable - and it doesn't use speed at all. It simply makes the distance not matter. It's not speed, it's more like blinking in and out of reality for a moment. [20:16] <@John> "Damn... still, gets me there quick, it's pretty much the same thing right?" John says, walking more sedately back around to the front.
[20:16] <Gildas> "Hm... I wonder if Fairy Circles use the same idea..." Gildas taps his foot in contemplation.
[20:17] <@Kotono> Myann blinks at that, "Gildas...maybe we could do that. Make a fairy circle. My mantle..." she murmurs, "If it's so good at creating things, and if the rest of you are good at magic...?"
[20:17] <@Feather> "Myann, do you have any spells that ignore the distance?" Feather asks. "Wait, of course you do. Like when you summon a block, but it appears somewhere else? Can you do that with yourself? Or another person?"
[20:19] <@Kotono> "I've never tried it with a person," Myann hmms, crossing her arms. "I could try, but I'd need one of you helping with the technical aspects."
[20:19] <@Feather> "Sure thing. And if that fails, we'll try the circle?"
[20:20] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "It's worth a shot."
[20:20] <@John> "Anything I can help with?" John asks, since he's not so good with the technical stuff.

[20:29] <@John> Feather saved him last time so John tries to return the favour! Running up the wall to meet him halfway he leaps off to catch Feather! Albeit without anything to slow himself down... still, it might help cushion the blow!
[20:30] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, make an acrobatics check, John.

[20:31] <@Kotono> Feather invokes his magic - but it comes up dry. It's like all his power is gone, drained to the bone. A wave of weariness hits him as he falls - only for John to leap up and catch him 30ft above the ground, managing to nab him and land in a boneshaking crouch.

[20:32] <@John> "Phew... now we're even!" John grins after that rough landing.
[20:32] * @Feather grunts, trying to get up and failing before giving up on that and patting John's shoulder. "Thanks," he forces out. "Myann okay?"
[20:32] <@Kotono> The giant of a man rises, face inscruitable. "You did it," he says tonelessly.
[20:33] <Gildas> Gildas kneels down next to Myann to check her out.
[20:33] <@Kotono> Myann's out cold. She's breathing steadily and her color is pale.

[18:01] <Kowork> "That just doesn't happen," The man says, voice still completely toneless. "You don't see a spell once and manage to copy it. That's not how magic works." He falls back into his chair, limp as a wet noodle. "Let alone magic that's been lost to all of your type for ages. You shouldn't even have the theoretical background to grasp what I was doing!"
[18:02] * Quits: @Feather (~DarkFlame@bzq-79-183-39-26.red.bezeqint.net) (Ping timeout)
[18:03] <Gildas> "Well, you're the one that challenged us to it." Gildas states plainly.
[18:03] <@John> "Yeah to be honest it surprised me," John agrees.
[18:04] <Feather_> "Said you'd concede if we did this," Feather helpfully reminds him.
[18:05] <Gildas> Gildas stays down with Myann, but does turn her over so she isn't face-down in the dirt anymore.
[18:06] <Kowork> "Yeah." He shakes his head slowly, "First of all, your arrow's been sabotaged. The Kingmaker had a crown and some other things on him. If any of you got close to them or touched them, it damaged the magic there. It'll be less and less able to change, and will stick in one position for good. Probably has already."
[18:06] <Kowork> Myann's still out, though her color's better with those healing spells.
[18:06] <Feather_> "Nastier than I figured. Can you fix that?"
[18:07] <@John> "I knew that was bad stuff!" John blurts out.
[18:07] <Gildas> "Ah, that explains why the divination didn't work..." Gildas says with a frown.
[18:08] <Kowork> "Yeah. Give me the arrow," he says, "The divination busting is another thing. You might get the most basic divinations past it, but anyhing past those will have problems. They might not work or have skewed results." His voice is still toneless, a look of disbelief showing as he talks.
[18:10] <Gildas> Gildas walks over and holds the arrow out. "Should we still hold onto those items?" He looks  back at the others. "We wanted to try and fix them, but if they're going to cause that much trouble..."
[18:11] <@John> "Should never of picked them up."
[18:12] <Kowork> "They're dead ends," The arrow is held, and it begins to spin and spin. Nasuea impacts Gildas as he stumbles to a knee, the arrow doing six rotations before coming to a stop. It begins to point to the south and with a downward cast to it, angled towards the ground. "They're meant to make you good little Sidhe who go mad like we want."
[18:12] <Feather_> "Never wanted them much," Feather muses. "Might as well leave them here."
[18:14] <Gildas> Gildas stumbles over to the ground, but balances himself once he's there. "We were going to just uncurse them, but that's... probably for the best." He says, reaching into his back to take the four items back out and place them on the ground. "You already know where we're going, don't you?" Gildas asks as he pulls himself, slowly, back to his feet.
[18:16] <Kowork> "This thing," A pause to pass it back to Gildas, who feels the nasuea pass, "It should work now. Finding an ancient fey. Good luck. We thought we had any loose ends tied up, but maybe there is one. This arrow thinks so. What do you need one for, anyway?"
[18:17] <@John> "Find out where the mantle thing under the lava is," John says. "Say, you got any spells for getting through lava? Or can you dimension door through it?"
[18:17] <Gildas> "Hah, wouldn't that be ironic." Gildas says as he takes the arrow back.
[18:19] <Kowork> "No good on that," he remarks, "The protections on that cover teleportation. After all the defenses we left there, it's better left be." Slowly sitting back and sighing, shaking his head a few times. "There used to be ways to stop teleportation as well as do it. Back then, a teleporting wizard could cause havoc on an army's backlines. Or worse, a dragon."
[18:21] <@John> "Be good for sneaking about, yeah," John says, recognising the benefits.
[18:21] <Gildas> "Do you have something we should call you, by the way?" Gildas asks. "You all seem to know all of us already."
[18:21] <Feather_> "How about what's in the lava? Are there creatures in it?" Feather asks at the same time.
[18:26] <Kowork> "The Enforcer," he shakes his head, "Oh yeah, there are. There's salamanders - big creatures distantly related to dragons. Imagine a burning cross between a dragon and a shark and add in a taste for burning flesh. You can blame us for that last part. When you get closer to the garden, there's several true dragons made entire of lava, volcanic rock and pure anger. They're also connected to special
[18:26] <Kowork> mantles that give them power over those things - and to keep them malleable by being just the right sort of mad. If you get past them, there's a barrier. That knife of yours should do the job. Inside there's the worst of the worst we could get. Golems, golemized dragons, wraiths of pure fire and the gardeners. Those are soulless humanoid bodies that are filled with the leftovers from making the
[18:26] <Kowork> mantles. They're completely dedicated to a single task - killing anyone who tries to go further. They have fragments of powers from dozens of potential mantles and can use them."
[18:27] <Gildas> "I'm going to guess none of that has some way to turn it off."
[18:27] <Kowork> A short laugh follows, "Of course not."
[18:27] <@John> "And I thought just getting past the lava was the challenge," John says in minor awe at all the obstacles ahead.
[18:28] <Gildas> "What would happen if you went down there? Would they attack you?"
[18:28] <Feather_> "Is there a point past the lava, where there's no more lava?" Feather asks with a frown. "Or do we need to put the knife on the outside of the boat?"
[18:30] <Kowork> "Yes. If one of us goes there, we're up to no good. It's in case one of us ever gets compromised." Going on from that, "But there's two ways to help with that - and there's no lava around the barrier, it repels it. You'll be fine to get out for that part, and past the barrier is no more lava. Anyway, there's two ways I can help you. The first is a location of a ship. It's the ship we used to
[18:30] <Kowork> get down there. It'll be in need of repairs, since we've salvaged it for parts over the centuries. But it'll give you a shell to work with."
[18:32] * Kowork is now known as Kotono
[18:32] <Gildas> "It's a starting point at least." Gildas says with a nod of thanks.

[18:32] <Feather_> "Yeah, that's great!"
[18:36] <@Kotono> "The second," Glancing at Myann, "Is that I can offer each of you a gift. I can increase one of your primal abilities- making you faster, smarter, toughter or so forth, or I can pass onto you a particular skill. If you killed the Kingmaker, you probably had light surround you and go into your body? It's a modified application of Unison. It's meant to allow us to train each other quickly and
[18:36] <@Kotono> learn." Giving Myann a look, "With how powerful you are, she's probably helped your development along somehow along the same lines. Especiallyw ith allt he power she's putting out."
[18:37] <@John> "Yeah, I picked up that dragon thing off him?" John says. "Did the same with the mindants as well when they shot crystals around."
[18:37] <Feather_> So John has been getting unisoned all along? Feather climbs to his feet, brushing dirt off his clothing. "How about coming with us for this thing? Could use you, and not just for knowledge."
[18:39] <@Kotono> "I won't go that far. You'll face my friends and I'm not willing to fight against them." He slowly shakes his head, "Do you know how involved you get with people when you've known them for centuries and centuries? Even when Ea-the Kingmaker was being his most annoying, he was still him."
[18:40] <@John> Probably elves know, but John doesn't!
[18:40] <Gildas> "So you do have names behind those titles." Gildas says. He shakes his head afterwards. "I would appreciate anything you're willing to give us."
[18:43] <@Kotono> "Each of you choose, tell me and then take my hand," he offers it out.
[18:44] <@John> "I'll take the funny skill then?" John shrugs, reaching out to clasp the other quarterstaff-wielder's hand.
[18:46] <@Kotono> John's hand is taken. Knowledge and light floods into his mind as...OOC: Loot.
[18:47] <Feather_> "Always wanted to be faster," Feather muses, relenting. He can understand not wanting to fight old allies just fine.
[18:48] <@John> "Hey that's pretty good! Thanks," John grins, letting go and stepping back.
[18:48] <@Kotono> A nod and the Enforcer offers his hand out again.
[18:49] * Feather_ takes it. If this is some elaborate trap, then better find out now and not when the boat starts to leak....
[18:49] * Feather_ is now known as Feather
[18:49] <@Kotono> Light floods Feather's legs and arms as...OOC: Loot.
[18:50] <Gildas> Gildas rubs his chin thoughtfully. "I will take whatever you think is appropriate." He moves to take the Enforcer's hand. "Unless I need to be more specific."
[18:51] <@Kotono> Gildas gets his hand clasped. "Hmph." The Enforcer mutters, "Your mind's damanged. You saw too far and it's only going to get worse without treatment. In a few months, all you'll see is mushrooms."
[18:53] <Gildas> He nods. "I admit such a thing. If that's your gift, to fix that, then that will suffice." He smiles. "But as I said, whatever is appropriate."
[18:56] <@Kotono> Light flows into Gildas's midn. Mushrooms come tumbling out of his ears, dozens and dozens! They surround him in a pile, shrooms of all shapes and sizes. OOC: Loot.
[18:57] <Gildas> "I suppose I should be more careful." He admits. "What do you think Myann would want?" He looks over at Feather.
[18:58] <Feather> "To wait a bit till she recovers?" Feather shrugs. "Might as well camp here together for a bit."
[18:58] <Gildas> "I meant from him." He gestures at the Enforcer.
[18:59] <Feather> "Well yeah. It's not like we'll use some magic on her until she's all better?"
[19:00] <@Kotono> The Enforcer rises, "I know what she needs," he says, walking to her.
[19:00] <Feather> "Eh?"
[19:08] <@Kotono> Kneeling next to her, he lays a hand on Myann's shoulder. "She's picked up a nobility mantle. Her powers are growing fast - and when that second mantle hits harder, she'll have to deal with even more."
[19:09] <Feather> "Yeah, she figured that. So what's your cure?"
[19:14] <@Kotono> "Helping her deal," he says, "I've strengthened her mind and will."
[19:15] <@John> "That'll help," John says agreeably.
[19:18] <Feather> "Yeah, no kidding. Uh, thanks on her behalf?"
[19:18] <@Kotono> The chair vanishes as the Enforce turns, "I'm going now. My friends won't be happy with me. I'll need to lay low for awhile. I won't wish you luck, I still think you're making a mistake...but it's your mistake to make. Also, here." He gestures, a rolled up parchment scroll appearing next to Myann. "A map that will lead you from the shrikes - I know you were there - to where the ship's docked.
[19:18] <@Kotono> There's guardians, but nothing you won't be able to handle. They're to keep things away more than anything else."
[19:19] <Gildas> "Well, you surely know where to find us if you need something." Gildas says.
[19:19] <@John> "Yeah, hey, you took a gamble helping us," John says, "So we'll make sure it pays off when we actually get to doing something with the mantles."
[19:19] <Feather> "Hope you don't see your friends till we prove them wrong," Feather tells him. "Keep safe till then?"
[19:20] <@Kotono> With that, the Enforcer is simply gone. The air ripples around him once and he is there no more. OOC: What are y'all gonna do now?
[19:21] <Feather> OOC: Keep away from the Kingmaker stuff, wait for Myann to recover, follow the arrow
[19:21] <@John> OOC: Gil can cast lay of the land so we can find any nearby caves since it's probably below ground
[19:23] <Gildas> OOC: Indeed. I think I'll have to wait until tomorrow for that since I tried it "today" though.

[18:03] <Kowork> Myann sleeps through the rest of the day and into the early evening. As the party munches on a late dinner, she at last stirs. Or rather, mushrooms do. A mushroom rises under her head, serving as a pillow. Her eyes open soon after, "What...what's going on? What happened?"
[18:03] <@John> "You dimension doored Feather up in the air. That big guy was pretty impressed," John answers succinctly.
[18:04] <Feather> "Yeah, it all worked out! How are you feeling?"
[18:06] <Gildas> Gildas nods to Myann. "You've been out for several hours. He also... I believe he bolstered your ability to resist your mantle's influence."
[18:07] <Kowork> "Exhausted," she murmurs, closing her eyes again. "There's so many mushrooms." In a few moments she goes still, save for her slow and steady breathing.
[18:09] <Kowork> OOC: Okay, watches for the night?
[18:09] <@John> OOC: John, Gil, Feather? Myann can take the night off

[18:13] <Kowork> Sleep comes. The next morning comes, Myann awake at the dawn. She listens to the stories of what happens as she whips up breakfast. As she does, mushrooms rise up with all sorts of fruits and vegetables, as well a few eggs. "He was telling the truth. It's easier for me to manage my mantle now. They're understanding what I want with greater clarity, too."
[18:14] <@John> "I'll say," John says, poking an egg. "What kind of mushroom lays an egg?"
[18:14] * Feather looks interested in the answer himself.
[18:15] <Gildas> "Let's see if this works this time..." Gildas says as he starts to prepare his divination spell. OOC: I'll try Lay of the Land again.
[18:17] <Kowork> "It's a chicken egg. I asekd it to get it, and for the mushrooms to bring them," Myann says, taking the eggs and cracking them over a pan. As they sizzle away above the fire, "That sort of concept was beyond them before. Mushrooms aren't very intelligent, but now they understand without understanding." OOC: Just looking for caves, Gildas?
[18:19] <@John> "So they can bring anything to you now?" John asks. That's pretty amazing!
[18:19] <Gildas> OOC: Caves and any places related to anyone the group is familiar with.

[18:23] <@Kotono> "Anything they can find," Myann says, "And it's practical for them to bring it to me." With her focus on the food, she starts dividing up vegetable and mushroom omelets, serving them to everyone. "Let me try... no." Shaking her head, "They can't speak. At least the ones at home can't. The ones in the Kingmaker's cave seem to be modified for it. They remember something causing it before we
[18:23] <@Kotono> arrived." Meanwhile, Gildas can see, besides the Kingmaker's cave, there's a cave about 46 miles to the south/slightly southwest. Nothing around by people you know, 'cept those that you already visited.
[18:23] <Feather> "What about if you write that we're fine, and then send it home for you?"
[18:24] <@John> "Or just have them like pop up in a pattern that spells something out?"
[18:24] <@Kotono> "They could, but it would take time," she says, "Mmm. I'd have to send it through a fairy circle, and even rapidly growing fungus colonies take time. Though...that would work," A nod to John. "Hold on...The missus just saw the mushrooms in her cooking spell out that we're alright."
[18:25] <Gildas> Gildas nods to both of them. "Good ideas." He stands up and aims himself south-by-southwest and confirms the arrow points in that same general direction.
[18:25] <@Kotono> The arrow points in that general direction.
[18:26] <Gildas> He nods to himself. "All right. It'll be a bit of a walk, but we're going in the right direction."

[18:11] <Gildas> Gildas groans again, but moves to stand up, looking to be in much better health now. "Thank you. Both of you." He glares at the dragon. "I'm not quite done with this one yet, but for the time being we should move out of the range of the spell. We can come back once it passes."
[18:11] <Feather> "We can? We must?"
[18:11] <@John> "Can't you just turn the snow off?" John asks.
[18:13] <Gildas> OOC: I don't think I can, can I?
[18:13] <@Kotono> OOC: It's not dismissable, so no.
[18:15] * Joins: Nephrite2 (~rscuderi@65.33.78.139)
[18:15] * Quits: Gildas (~rscuderi@6532248hfc76.tampabay.res.rr.com) (Killed (NickServ (GHOST command used by Nephrite2!~rscuderi@65.33.78.139)))
[18:15] * Nephrite2 is now known as Gildas
[18:16] <Gildas> Gildas shakes his head. "No, we just have to wait it out. It shouldn't be very long."
[18:17] <@John> "Alright," John says. "So what you gonna do with this then?" he indicates the dragon.
[18:18] <@Kotono> The dragon is currently being blanketed in rapidly falling snow. A lot is melting, but a lot more is accumulating, too.
[18:18] <Gildas> Gildas starts to slowly walk past the dragon and towards the edge of the snow and the blizzard itself. "Eat it, like the last one that decided to try and kill us."
[18:20] <@John> "Oh..." John says, not having expected that. He takes a step back. "What's it taste like?"
[18:20] <Gildas> "I don't really remember, I was a bit out of it the last time." He admits. "But we might be able to salvage some dragon blood from it too."
[18:21] <@Kotono> It's several hundred feet away, farther than Gildas can currently see in the blizzard-like conditions.
[18:23] * @John climbs up onto the dragon so he doesn't get snowed under!
[18:24] <@Kotono> Myann takes bird form and follows. OOC: Quick climb or acrobatics check or whatever the check is, John.
[18:25] <Gildas> Gildas watches John, then calls out. "I don't know how we'd collect the blood if it's so hot, though... Myann, do you have any ideas? Maybe some sort of mushroom that could absorb it and collect it?" He shapeshifts to follow after her in his bird form, looking for where the chest of the dragon is, if he can actually see it in this condition.

[18:26] <@John> "Wait is this like for your vampire friend?"
[18:27] <@Kotono> OOC: Are you climbing up as well, FEather?
[18:27] * Feather changes his mind after everyone does this and follows suit!
[18:28] <Feather> roll 1d20+17
[18:28] <Serith> Feather roll for Serith < 25 > [d20=8]
[18:29] <@Kotono> The party makes it up. It's snowing tremendously as Myann shifts back, "Maybe, let me..." she murmurs, as long, disc-like mushrooms begin to grow all over the dragon's body. Like the sort that grow over old tree trunks, spreading and taking on a lava-reddish hue. Meanwhile the snow continues to fall tremendously, several feet on the ground. The dragon's warmth - and only warmth now - keeps atop
[18:29] <@Kotono> it relatively snow free. Then it ceases, all the snow and sudden wintry cold gone.
[18:31] <Gildas> Gildas shapeshifts back and lets out a breath. "I wonder if this thing was an ally of theirs." He says, climbing over to get to the dragon's chest. He casts a protective spell in anticipation. OOC: Protection from Energy, fire version.
[18:32] <Feather> "Seems kinda obvious, innit?"
[18:32] <Gildas> "I don't know, we met that other dragon down below and it didn't try and kill us." He says.
[18:33] <@Kotono> Myann shifts back and sits down heavily on the dragon. "I think Gildas is right, if for no other reason than that it called itself the Slayer. It fits The Enforcer and the Kingmaker's naming pattern."
[18:33] <@John> "Called itself Slayer right, kinda fits the theme of their other names?" John figures.
[18:36] <Gildas> "This might get messy." Gildas says to the others. "So I'm not sure if you want to stay up here." He gestures at the dragon's chest.
[18:37] <@Kotono> Myann takes to bird form and perches on FEather's shouder. She closes her eyes and rests her head against his cheek.
[18:37] <@John> John quickly jumps off and takes a few steps well away!
[18:38] * Feather follows suit, not particularly wanting to look on.
[18:38] <Gildas> Gildas shapeshifts into his Dire Bear form in order to try and get to the heart of the matter -- literally, of course, and then chomp down on it.
[18:39] <@Kotono> The dragon's chest is tough - stone, flesh and fire that does not easily give way. Blasts of cooling lava and steam batter him, but his wardings against fire stop it. Soon enough the dragon's heart is revealed - it looks like something made of string, finely woven strands of flesh and dark volcanic rock.
[18:40] <Gildas> The bear wastes no time and reaches out with its maw to take a bite out of it! OOC: My assumption is it's a lot bigger than he is, so.
[18:41] <@Kotono> Gildas tears into it. His body bursts into flames, fading away after several seconds. He feels greatly invigorated, full of energy. OOC: Loot post.
[18:43] <Gildas> His mission done, the Dire Bear moves back down and lands on the ground next to the dragon, then shapeshifts back. "All right. My apologies. We can move on now." He holds the arrow out in order to get their bearings back.
[18:44] <@John> "Tasty?" John asks uncertainly.
[18:45] <@Kotono> The arrow's pointing in the same direction. You'll reach it early tomorrow - a little less early than before the dragon encounter, you estimate, but no great loss.
[18:45] <Gildas> "Hot." He responds. "It didn't really have a taste besides that."
[18:46] <Gildas> He gestures. "We should be there tomorrow."
[18:47] <@Kotono> OOC: Ready to move along?
[18:47] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay. Normal watch rotation at night?
[18:47] <@Kotono> OOC: Gah, premature enter key.
[18:47] <Gildas> OOC: Yeah, that's fine with me.
[18:47] <@Kotono> OOC: Right. First of all, all HPs restored from Myann going through her spell charges. So top yourselves off.

[18:49] <@Kotono> Night. John is before the campfire, keeping watch as he resists the urge to sleep. An unremarkable watch all in all, when...thump thump. Thump thump. Thump thump. The sound of a beating heart is heard from all around him.
[18:50] <@John> "Hey, s-stop that..." John says, looking around for all that he doesn't want to see the awful blood monster with all the extra hearts.
[18:54] <@Kotono> "I smell the blood of a dragon..." It's the voice of that creature, a soft whisper in between the heartbeats.
[18:55] <@John> "Y-yeah it's way back that way," John jerks his thumb back the way they came, hoping whatever it is just goes away. "Huge thing, can't miss it."
[18:58] <@Kotono> "Wonderful, for such bloodshed to come. Expected, at the hands of the Lady of the Mushrooms." A happy sound akin to wet laugh follows. "Be well." Then the voice is gone, as well as the heartbeating.
[18:58] <@John> "Phew..." John sighs in relief at that lucky escape.
[18:59] <@Kotono> OOC: Going to do anything or let the night go on?
[19:00] <@John> OOC: let the night go on
[19:01] <@Kotono> The next morning begins without incident. As the party muches on egg and sausage stuffed mushroom caps, "We may find the goal of our journey today," Myann speaks up. "Best be ready for anything."
[19:01] <@Kotono> *munches
[19:02] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Yes. They might finally figure out to come at us with more than just one at a time."
[19:02] <@John> "Yeah, last night a creepy blood fairy stopped by," John says, "Was all excited for dragon blood. Sent it off after the body we left back that way."
[19:03] <Gildas> Gildas glances over at John. "You really don't have a lot of luck with those things, do you?"
[19:04] <@Kotono> Myann finishes her breakfast before replying, "It could be worse," she says, wiping her hands clean before getting up. "It could've decided you were cute."
[19:04] <@John> "Nope," John shakes his head and takes a big bite of his breakfast mushroom.
[19:05] <Gildas> OOC: Easy Trail and Wind at Back again, on that note, once we get going.
[19:06] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.

[19:06] <Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 31 > [d100=31]
[19:07] <@Kotono> The party walks for perhaps an hour and change. You come to a cave entrance, rising up from the ground. On a glance it's unremarkable, just another cave. Floating just outside the entrance are a pair of golden blocks, notably.
[19:07] <Gildas> Gildas walks about with the arrow to see if this is their destination.
[19:08] <@Kotono> The arrow is indeed pointing at it.
[19:09] <Gildas> "Well... we're here." He says. "This is a little bit less... impressive-looking then I think I was expecting."
[19:09] <Feather> "What's with the blocks, you think?" Feather asks Myann. "Can you tell, like you do with the mushrooms?"
[19:09] <@John> "It's another set up like Kingmaker made, isn't it?" John states the obvious.
[19:10] <@Kotono> "There's a mushroom inside each of them. One's a leaf mushroom and the other's a fire mushroom," Myann shrugs, "I don't know why, but they feel right. Blame the mantle."
[19:10] <Gildas> "Maybe one of you should take the leaf mushroom so you can fly, in case we need it?" Gildas asks.
[19:11] <@John> "No thanks," John says, not planning to take advantage of dubious gifts clearly left there by their enemies.
[19:12] <Feather> "Which ones?" Feather asks, figuring he might as well check them out.
[19:12] <@Kotono> "I'm not sure they are," Myann remarks, "I mean..." Here she fumbles a moment, "They don't feel dangerous. They feel right. Maybe it's something that the Enforcer did to my mantle."
[19:13] <@Kotono> "First one's the fire mushroom, second's the leaf," Myann says, pointing.
[19:13] <Feather> "Anyone wants the fiery one?" Feather asks, tapping the second block.
[19:13] <@Kotono> A leaf mushroom rises up and falls to the ground before Feather.
[19:14] * Feather gets it!
[19:15] <@Kotono> The familiar changes overtake Feather, imbuing him once more. OOC: Leaf mushroomed.
[19:15] <Gildas> Gildas shrugs and lightly punches the first block. "You never know when it might come in handy."
[19:15] <@Kotono> A fire mushroom falls out next to Gildas.
[19:15] <Gildas> He leans down to take it!
[19:16] <@Kotono> Myann meanwhile walks ahead, "It may be a trap, it may not. Hopefully any weirdness the mushrooms bring onlyb enefit us."
[19:17] <@John> "Even if it's a trap our ancient fey still might be past it," John says, heading down.
[19:17] <Gildas> Gildas nods and moves to follow after her. "Well, if he fixed the arrow to send us into a trap, we will just have to find a way out."
[19:18] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, marching order? Also, if you took the mushroom you're fire mushroomed, Gildas.
[19:19] <Gildas> OOC: Roger.
[19:19] <Gildas> OOC: I'll go wherever in the order.
[19:19] <@John> Gil, Feather, Myann, John?

[19:25] <@John> "Huh? What's wrong?" John asks her.
[19:26] <Feather> "Hey, Myann! Wait up!" Feather calls out, rushing after her.
[19:27] <Gildas> Gildas turns back into the cave and frowns. "Hm..."
[19:27] <@Kotono> Myann and Feather leave, right back out the cave altogether.
[19:28] <Gildas> Gildas casts a quick magic detection spell to see what might've spooked the two of them.
[19:28] <@Kotono> Once outside, Myann shakes her head, "This place bores me. We need to get home already, Feather." Meanwhile, Gildas indeed detects magic. OOC: Spellcraft.
[19:28] <@John> Not wanting to split the party, John hurries after them. "C'mon, what's up?" he pesters them.

[19:29] <@Kotono> Gildas can tell it's a powerful enchantment, but anything else is unknown.
[19:29] <Feather> "Yeah, where's the nearest circle?" Feather agrees, picking north and heading over without waiting for an answer.
[19:29] <Gildas> He nods and turns to go after the others. "Hold on, you two. There was an enchantment there... I think you're both under its spell."
[19:29] <@Kotono> "We'll find one," Myann agrees, not stopping. "If we hurry, we can be back home in a week."
[19:30] <Feather> "A week's too long to wait!"
[19:30] <@John> "What's the big rush?" John asks, hurrying after them. "I mean, Gildas says you're enchanted and he's probably right." What to do about it though?
[19:31] <@Kotono> Myann glances at John and shrugs, barely paying him any mind. "I can get the mushrooms to help," she says to Feather, "Hold on."
[19:31] <Feather> "Eh? John? Uh, let's get going?"
[19:32] <Gildas> "We didn't come all this way just for the two of you to get enchanted into going back home." Gildas says. "Are you both really going to give up so easily?" He frowns. He looks over at John. "I think the only way to undo this is for me to try and dispel it, but I don't know if I can."
[19:32] <@John> "Better try quick!" John tells him worriedly.
[19:34] <Gildas> He shakes his head. "It'd have to be tomorrow. I can't believe this..." He looks at the arrow.
[19:34] <@Kotono> Before the party, a large mushroom appears. It begins to shift, forming a carriage and mushroom-horses before you. Myann giggles cheerfully, "Ah, much better. We'll ride home in style. Perhaps we'll even entertain the masses who see us. Wouldn't that be good of us? The common Sidhe have begun to bore me on this trip, after all, and it's more than they deserve." Meanwhile, Gildas can see the
[19:34] <@Kotono> arrow's still pointing at the cave.
[19:36] <Gildas> Gildas casts another magic detection spell on Myann and Feather, to see if there's anything keeping them like this, or if it's permanent. "I think we're going to have to subdue them or just go along with this until it wears off... if it wears off."
[19:36] <@John> "No, you can't!" John says, jumping at the carriage and smacking one of the wheels with his staff to derail their exciting carriage ride!

[19:37] <@Kotono> Gildas can tell they're under a potent enchantment. Not a hard call at this point, admittedly. Both are clearly mentally compromised.

"Now that I like! Far more entertaining than merely traveling in style! Maybe if I tell the mushrooms just so..."
[19:39] <@John> "It's me, John, you know me!"
[19:40] <Feather> "Yeah, it's faster. Let's do that?"
[19:40] <Gildas> "John, you're not going to like this, but I don't think we have a choice...I think we need to get some outside help for this." He gestures at the forest around them. "You seem to have a knack for this, will you help call for help?"
[19:42] <@Kotono> John gets a passing glance from Myann, but little more as she concentrates.

[19:42] <@John> "What you mean... oh... damn..." John winces before just sucking it up for the good of the team. "Are there any cute pixies or sexy nymphs out there who want to help us out? I'd be super grateful!" he calls out to the forest.
[19:42] <Gildas> Gildas takes in a deep breath. "The Lady of the Mushrooms needs assistance! She's fallen under an enchantment, and we lack the means to break it!"
[19:43] <@Kotono> Mushrooms appear -everywhere-. Myann goes rigid before collapsing, as the forest before you becomes a forest of tall mushrooms and vines become hanging strands of fungi. She isn't moving after that, out cold.
[19:44] <Gildas> Gildas winces and wrinkles his nose. "That isn't... exactly what I expected..."
[19:44] <Feather> "Myann! Wait! It's okay, we'll get there on foot!" Feather exclaims, picking her up and looking about.
[19:44] <@John> "That just leaves Feather then?" John says, relieved to see no 'help' forthcoming. "Uh... you still wanna go home?"
[19:45] <@Kotono> From all around, giggles are heard. Cutesy, feminine giggles.
[19:46] <Feather> "Yeah, uh, let's all go together? No fancy magic this time," Feather responds distractedly to John, heading north once more.
[19:46] <@Kotono> As Feather stands there, four figures of mushrooms appear. He is about 4ft tall and wears a simple red vest and white pants. In place of hair they have white and red spotted mushrooms tops. They appear silently and begin to build a bed out of nothing, before your very eyes. At the same time, the giggles chorus around you, "The Lady of the Mushrooms," A dozen voices sing-song, "Wait, wait, wait,
[19:46] <@Kotono> wait, the play has just begun again!"
[19:47] <@John> Oh no... please no... John cringes but forces himself to see it through. "Yeah, uh, hi cute pixies!" he says in a bright yet strained voice. "Can you get rid of the enchantments on Myann and Feather?"
[19:48] <Gildas> Gildas blinks, then nods. "Yes, good idea. Feather, Myann needs time to rest, as do you. You should... rest." He says, awkwardly, gesturing towards the bed.
[19:49] * Feather frowns, and then places Myann on the bed. He steps back, scratching his head. "That helps?" he asks uncertainly. "There's mushrooms! Lots of them!"
[19:50] <Gildas> "Oh, you noticed." He says and rubs his forehead. "This is going to be a long day..."
[19:51] <@Kotono> The giggles are louder, like a sweet rain of beautiful sound. The bed is finished in moments and Myann lies on it. It's like a bed out of a girl's dreams - made of mushrooms. The four figures tuck Myann in as she lies there. "Promise us place in her court," The pixies singsong, "Oh Knight of the Mushrooms. Oh Feather."
[19:51] <Gildas> Gildas looks over at John and sighs. "Do you think they're going to forgive us for this?"
[19:51] <@John> "Uh..." John isn't sure how he can promise that when it's not his decision, "I-I'll try and convince her?"
[19:52] <Gildas> "We will tell her how you helped them both once they've recovered." Gildas says.
[19:53] <@John> "Yeah, that oughtta help sway her!" John adds.
[19:53] * Feather takes a seat at the edge of the bed, watching over Myann worriedly.
[19:54] <Gildas> Gildas scratches his head. "I'm not sure what we do even after they recover..."
[20:02] <@Kotono> There's muted rustlings and whispers above you, "Feather has to promise," they carol.
[20:03] <Gildas> "Does a promise count when you can't remember it...?" He wonders aloud. "Feather, just say you promise, all right?"
[20:05] <Feather> "Uh, sure thing, promise," Feather mutters distractedly, waving Gildas away.
[20:06] <Gildas> "That's about all you're going to get out of him at the moment." He calls out.

[20:09] <@Kotono> Feather's mind clears entirely, normal function back. OOC: You're no longer affected, Feather.
[20:10] <Feather> "Uh, what?"
[20:10] <Gildas> "...You back with us?" Gildas asks.
[20:10] <@John> "Feeling better?" John checks, "No more overwhelming desire to go home?"
[20:11] <Feather> "Yeah I just dunno. There's... mushrooms. Lots of mushrooms."
[20:11] <Gildas> "Ah... yes, you asked Myann to teleport you back home." He says.
[20:12] <@John> "Hey, you guys are alright!" John tells the pixies in open relief.
[20:12] <Gildas> He turns and gestures to the cave. "There's some kind of enchantment in there that makes you want to leave and go back home. You and Myann were affected by it. We... um..." He clears his throat. "I asked for some outside help to get you two back to normal."
[20:12] <@Kotono> There's no reply to John's question.
[20:13] <Feather> "That... sort of makes sense? I guess?" Feather grimaces. "Gonna be hard to go there again...."
[20:14] <Gildas> "Perhaps it only happens once." Gildas offers. "Or, now that we know it's there... maybe we can get around it, or try and suppress it, like we did with the spells in the shrikes."
[20:15] <Feather> "Yeah, sounds about right," Feather muses, using the healing gem on Myann. "Let's give it a try later?"
[20:16] <Gildas> "Yes, I think you two probably should rest for now. If we want to try the brute force method, I can prepare some spells tonight and we can try that."

Ebiris

[18:03] <~Koaway> Thus the party rests in the mushroomed forest. Eventually the enchanted mushrooms wear off, leaving Gildas and Feather normal once more. It's not until the next morning that Myann stirs at all. When she does, she sits up and falls back down, rasping out, "Feather? Water?"
[18:04] * Feather offers his waterskin to her, raising Myann's head and supporting it with the other hand.
[18:05] <Gildas> Gildas looks over to Myann with a small smile. "Feeling back to yourself?"
[18:07] <~Koaway> She drinks deeply, coughs and sputters, then drinks again. She falls back after, "Exhausted," she says, less raspy but her words still sound weak. "There's so many of them..." she murmurs, trailing off as her eyes close.
[18:08] <Feather> "Mushrooms?"
[18:08] <@John> John is faintly relieved that Myann will seemingly be out of it for a while and thus delay having to inform her of the new additions to her court.
[18:09] <~Koaway> "Mushrooms," she whispers back, then goes still. Looks like she's back into the land of Nod.

[18:13] <~Koaway> The rest of the day passes, the party keeping watch. It happens to be Gildas's watch when Myann stirs once more, coughing and sitting up. "Feather?" she asks groggily, "Anyone?"
[18:14] <Gildas> Gildas moves over next to her. "It's me. Do you need some more water?"
[18:15] <~Koaway> "Water," Myann croaks. "Water."
[18:15] <Gildas> Gildas offers over some for her and will help her drink it if she needs the assistance!
[18:16] <~Koaway> Myann needs to help. She drains the water and rests back, "What happened?" she asks.
[18:18] <Gildas> "Enchantment in the cave." He gestures in that direction. "You and Feather went under it and wanted to go back home. You tried to teleport yourself... it... ah... didn't exactly work." He says with a smile.
[18:18] <~Koaway> "Mm." Myann makes a bare noise halfway and none by th etime Gildas is done. Her eyes have shut again, sleep having returned.
[18:20] <Gildas> Gildas returns to his watch!

[18:22] <~Koaway> The rest of the night and breakfast is peaceful. It's just past a basic breakfast of trail foodthat Myann awakens a third time. This time she sits up, cradling her head into her hands.
[18:22] * Feather is there with water as soon as he sees it.
[18:23] <~Koaway> Myann sips a little, "Help me up?" she asks with a wan smile, and in a whisper, "I really need to...go." She hisses that last part so softly that Feather can barely hear.
[18:23] * Feather leaves the waterskin nearby and picks Myann up carefully.
[18:25] <~Koaway> From there is a brief trip away. Myann's able to walk with help by the time they come back. She half sits, half collapses next to the fire and drinks more water. "How long was I asleep?"
[18:25] <Feather> "A full day by now? How are you feeling?"
[18:28] <~Koaway> "Tired," Myann says, sitting back after drinking. "I remember something an dmy mind wasn't clear and then I'm waking up. We got enchanted?"
[18:29] <Feather> "That's what Gildas and John said. Sounds about right, too."
[18:29] <Gildas> Gildas nods. "Yes. It looks like it's something that basically sends you home. I've prepared a few things to try against it."
[18:31] <@John> "Yeah, about that," John says nervously, "See, we couldn't do anything to stop you guys, you were dead set on going home. So, uh, we had to get help."
[18:32] <~Koaway> "Mmm." Myann says thoughtfully, then glances over at John. "Help?" Her expression drops as she slowly rubs her temple. "What did yo udo?"
[18:34] <@John> "Well, some pixies came along and said they'd help if they were allowed into your court, see?" John says, scratching his beard, "So, uh, they really did help though!"
[18:34] <Gildas> "It was my idea." Gildas interjects. "But we didn't seem to have any other options."
[18:34] <Feather> "Huh. How about calling for them and having them go into the cave?"
[18:35] <Gildas> "You two were in a rush to get out of here." He says. "We didn't really have a lot of time."
[18:36] <~Koaway> Myann sighs deeply, "Are they still here? I don't see any pixies, but that may not mean anything."
[18:37] <@John> "Haven't heard from them since they fixed you two," John admits with a shrug. "But hey, after we fix their mantles they'll be nice, right?"
[18:38] <Gildas> "I think, more pressing than that, is how we get into the cave." Gildas says. "But now that we're aware there's... something, it might help us get past it."
[18:38] <~Koaway> "Probably," Myann murmurs, slowly rising to her feet. "We need to find our goal first of all, then sort out our problems at home."
[18:39] <Gildas> "I'll see what I can do to counter it." He says as he stands up. "We'll see what happens."
[18:40] <Feather> "Might as well give it a try?"
[18:40] <Gildas> He nods.
[18:40] <~Koaway> OOC: Going back in, y'all? What's your plan of action?
[18:40] <Gildas> OOC: I'll stand about 10 feet away from where I found the enchantment and just try a Dispel Magic.
[18:43] <~Koaway> Thus the party walks back in. Myann walks with Feather, going slow and careful as they take position. OOC: Go ahead, Gildas.

[18:47] <~Koaway> This time, the magic before you cracks loudly and vanishes away. Motes of swirling power gush out as the spell collapses. OOC: Go ahead.
[18:47] <@John> "Oooh, that did it?" John asks, considering the crack and the motes to be good signs.
[18:48] <Gildas> "Let's be on our guard for anything else." Gildas says, casting a quick detect magic to see if there's anything right past that as a surprise.
[18:50] <~Koaway> There's nothing but the fading magic ahead.
[18:50] * @John nods and starts heading down the slope.
[18:50] <Gildas> Gildas nods and walks after John.
[18:52] * Feather takes Myann's hand and head down after the two of them.
[18:53] <~Koaway> Myann follows with Feather, going down slowly. The slope is gentle enough, soon you reach twenty way intersection. Passages adn tunnels go up high, low, up, down, left, right and more. But as you stand there, the arrow spins and points to a passage to the right, one that you can just walk through.
[18:54] <Gildas> "They certainly don't want to be found, do they?" Gildas remarks.
[18:54] <@John> "Lots of choices here... good thing we've got that arrow."
[18:55] <~Koaway> "Fortunate," Myann murmurs, leaning against Feather. "Let's keep moving."
[18:55] <Gildas> Gildas tentatively heads in the direction the arrow points.
[18:59] <~Koaway> The party heads into the pointed passage. You walk along nary a minute before space around you ripples. The path ahead vanishes - and instead the party stumbles back from intense heat. You stand on a cliff before an endless sea of lava ahead, boiling merely a dozen feet below the party. The air is foul with gasses and difficult to breathe.
[18:59] * Feather looks at Gildas's arrow in alarm!
[18:59] <@John> "No way..." John looks back to see if the way back is still there. Did they teleport or did everything in front of them change?
[19:00] <~Koaway> The arrow still points head. John sees the path back the way you came is still there.
[19:00] <Gildas> Gildas shakes his head. "I think this is just an illusion." He casts a detect magic to determine of his assumption is correct!
[19:00] <~Koaway> The entire area radiates magic to Gildas's eyes. OOC: Spellcraft.

[19:01] <~Koaway> There's magic but Gildas can't figure it - at the same time as John sticks his hands down. He feels a curious sense of pressing against something, before the entire illusion collapses. The way ahead returns, the air merely cave-stagnant once more.
[19:02] <@John> "Yeah, sneaky that. They really want to scare us off, don't they?"
[19:02] <Feather> "Or whoever's there really doesn't want to be found?"
[19:02] <Gildas> Gildas nods to John. "I hope they don't get angry that we're coming to visit."
[19:03] <~Koaway> "No choice," Myann murmurs.
[19:03] <Gildas> He nods again and moves to continue down the path.

[19:06] <~Koaway> The world spins - terribly, terrifically so! Reality is in a blender - but the arrow still points ahead. Amid thie maelstrom of dizziness, a single path can be seen, the path ahead. The arrow points right to it, showing the way. The party, while terribly dizzy, can stil move. OOC: Only move actions right now.
[19:07] <@John> "Oooooh..." John groans dizzily yet bravely stumbles onwards!
[19:07] <Gildas> Gildas continues to move forward, likewise as John. He tries to calm his dizzy mind and body as he goes with some breathing.
[19:08] <~Koaway> Myann winces and clings to Feather, stumbling along with him. Her hands cling to the front of his armor and around his neck, hanging on.
[19:08] <Feather> "We're just visiting!" Feather complains, focusing on his stumbling friends to try and keep a point of reference.
[19:08] <~Koaway> Several steps forward are enough. The spinning ceases and the party's vertigo slowly lessens. There's some wobbling about, but it's past. Ahead is a stairway carved of the earth, going ahead and down.
[19:09] <@John> "Urgh, that was rough," John complains, holding his belly and standing still a few seconds until he settles before continuing on.

[19:16] <@John> OOC: I guess I do? I figured it didn't really exist and anyone could find traps so I never listed it. No DD though.
[19:16] <~Kotono> As the party walks along, John stops. He can hear the faintest sound - the soft hissing of air. A moment later, he begins to detect a faintly foul smell, like sulphur. His rogue training also tells him that this is mostl likely gas vents - also known as a trap. OOC: Act John, you made the DC.
[19:17] <@John> "Gas, run!" John says, bolting ahead!
[19:18] <Gildas> Gildas looks as if he's ready to cast something, but then just takes a deep breath and shapeshifts into his eagle form to fly after John so he takes up less space!
[19:18] * Feather doesn't question anything, but just bolts ahead after picking Myann up!

[19:20] <~Kotono> The party races down to the bottom safely, the gas left behind. Ahead is a simple house, built into a dead end. It looks like a country cottage made of fieldstone, a well just a bit to the side of it. A single door leading within is open.
[19:21] * @John pushes the door open and steps through it.
[19:22] <Gildas> Gildas checks the arrow to make sure it isn't pointing them at the well.
[19:25] <~Kotono> The arrow's pointing dead ahead. John steps into the cottage. It's comfortably decorated and well worn. In the back is a bed, where an ancient elf sits. Its face is endlessly wrinkled and its hair is long gone. It is a man, albeit one with eyes the color of pure milk. He's looking right at John as he enters. He wears nothing at all, seeming not to notice or care. He rises smoothly in spite of
[19:25] <~Kotono> his clearly advanced age. "You have one warning to leave here, children of madness." His voice throbs with energy, the world around you distorting as he speaks. "This King no longer desires a court. Leave."
[19:26] <Gildas> Gildas walks up next to John and shakes his head. "I think you have us mistaken for others."
[19:26] <Feather> "We're not a court!" Feather protests. "We just want to ask where to go to fix the madness! Uh, Highness!"
[19:26] <@John> "We're not here to join your court!" John blurts out, holding his palms up in a concilatory gesture and averting his eyes from the ancient elf's nakedness.
[19:27] <~Kotono> "We want to stop this. All of this," Myann says, "We think you can help us with that." She looks on wearily, not bothering to avert her eyes. "Ignore us if you wish, but let's not have any more meaningless bloodshed. But better yet, listen to us."
[19:28] <~Kotono> The creature before you watches all of you silently, before nodding curtly. "Your mantle..." he stares at Myann, then to each of you in turn. "And that arrow. Is the Mantle of Dreams free of the Circle?"
[19:29] <Feather> "We can only guess when people are being cryptic," Feather admits, rubbing the back of his head. "But it's the Dreamer's arrow, and she's, uh, part of this druid circle?"
[19:30] <~Kotono> "...hmph." The old elf almost cracks a smile at that, "No mad fey would reply like that." He sits back on his bed, "I'm sure there's some tiresome reason you're here. One of you tell me why."
[19:31] <Feather> "It's like I said! This madness, it comes from the way mantles are broken? We wanna fix it so that fey aren't all, uh-- we wanna make them better?"
[19:32] <Gildas> Gildas stays quiet since the elf pretty clearly only wanted one person talking!
[19:32] <@John> "And we heard the oldest fey can tell us where the... place to sort out mantles and stuff, was hidden," John adds. "You look pretty old."
[19:33] <~Kotono> "Well. Well, well. Things have gotten interesting," he murmurs. "I know where the refuge is," he agrees, "I'm amazed you're still alive. There's a group that ensures this can'th appen. They prefer the fey to be insane. It's a small miracle they haven't put you down yet."
[19:34] <Feather> "They tried," Feather responds. "But we ended up fighting two of them and convinced the third to stop, so they're not all crazy. Maybe some others'll stop too and leave us alone."
[19:35] <~Kotono> "You won against them TWICE? This gets better and better," He cracks a wry smile at that, "What may be a sane fey and someone who can stop those assholes?" He nods ever so slightly, before snapping his fingers. "I command a mantle of distance," he intones in Sylvan, "A map to what I see in my mind." Before you a map appears, a rolled up sheet of parchment. "If ou didn't already know, it's beneath
[19:35] <~Kotono> a sea of lava in a lower layer of the world. You can't just walk to it."
[19:36] <@John> "Yeah, we've been there just didn't know where in the lava it was," John says, leaning over to unroll the map.
[19:36] <Feather> "Yeah, we know! This third guy was real nice about the whole thing and told us where to find a ship to go through the lava. And we've got this mage who'll fix it for us."
[19:37] <~Kotono> It's a rather detailed map. It shfits as you view it, showing a three dimensional path through the lava.
[19:38] <~Kotono> "You're awfully well informed," he remarks, "I'd given up on fixing the mantles after the war. I took the mantle of a king, but...nevermind, old history." He sighs then, "Do you need to know anything else? That ship, if it's tone one I'm thinking of, will suffice."
[19:39] <@John> "Yeah, one of those guys who were chasing us told us where it is," John says, squinting at the map. "Say, you got any ideas on what to do to the mantles to make all the fey sane without killing anyone?"
[19:40] <~Kotono> "Nothing concrete. We stole the concept from a higher layer," He sits back now, "You know about the war against the creatures from beyond the spheres? We were losing and losing badly. We took the method of making the mantles from something called Unison. Unfortunately, it was a rush job and evidence later suggests it was tampered with anyway. It's ag reat way of focusing power but it turns out
[19:40] <~Kotono> minds aren't equipped to deal with it."
[19:41] <Feather> "How about that unison, then? Is that a good way?"
[19:41] <Gildas> "Do you think we should..." Gildas frowns. "Do you think if we went to Stratum we could get the answer?" He looks at the others. "We might have to, if we want to do this correctly..."
[19:43] <~Kotono> "Maybe," he admits, "But - oh, you know them? If you do, you should know they're inhuman bastards." The elf snorts at that, "Look at what Unison's turned the fey into. I've avoided it by withering my body to the absolute edge of mortality. But looking at you," A look at Myann, "You found a better way. How?"
[19:44] <~Kotono> "I vent my energies every night and...I have someone to come back to," Myann looks at Feather, "And from what another said, perhaps I'm lucky or well suited to it? Or perhaps it's a miracle of some faraway deity or a fluke of nature."
[19:45] <Gildas> "We met one of their child soldiers." Gildas says with disgust.
[19:45] <Feather> "And we don't want to rely on luck, there," Feather adds. "So we're thinking of changing things for the better. Maybe if we changed the mantles to unison, or-- hey, you said it was tampered with? Maybe we can start with fixing that tampering and take it from there?"
[19:49] <~Kotono> "That sounds like them." The elf's contempt shines through in his voice. "They were useful against the creatures beyond the spheres, but don't think for a moment they're 'good'." He sighs out slowly, "You might. The best and safest way would be to use her mantle there and change the world.  You'd get a world of..." he sniffs once, "Mushrooms, but you could mold it. A entire kingdom and world of
[19:49] <~Kotono> mushrooms." He sniffs again, "With the way her mantle is exuding power, you've probably seen what sort of world it would be."
[19:50] * @John nods recalling the mushroom forest and those strange little mushroom men. Creepy stuff!
[19:50] <Gildas> Gildas shakes his head. "I think we want the world to be like it is now... but... well, let me ask you something. If the fey had control over their mantles and weren't insane, do you think they'd be content to live here, on this side? Or do you think it'd bleed through to our side?"
[19:51] <Feather> "Was kinda hoping to hear how things were broken, to avoid the same mistake. Or, uh, sabotage, I guess?"
[19:52] <~Kotono> The old fey slowly sits back, "In all truth, I don't disagree with what the madmen chose. Even before the war, not all fey were good. The power of a mantle in full harmony and control is equal to an archmage, without the limits of traditional spellcasting. In time, it would be misused." Here he shakes his head, "I have a few notes," he goes to a drawer and takes out a sheaf of papers, "They're
[19:52] <~Kotono> complex and far from complete, my studies of the mantle system weren't deep."
[19:53] <~Kotono> Going on after that, "They're wrong too, but..." Here the old elf just sighs, "Sometimes there's only bad choices, and you have to make the best of them. Letting the aberrations win wasn't an option."
[19:54] * Feather nods, asking, "If we could just make any mantle to replace the one used now, is there any that might fit better than Myann's?"
[19:54] <~Kotono> "Many," he says without missing a beat, "But you'd need to find sane fey. Using a mantle from a mad fey?" he shrugs, "At beast it would be a nightmare. At worst?" He drops off, "The aberrations may as well have won."
[19:55] <Gildas> "Are you aware of any?" "Gildas asks the obvious question.
[19:55] <Feather> "Those guys that tried to kill us, they had some means to make a new mantle," Feather muses. "So maybe one of us gets it, and then uses it before we have a chance to go crazy from it?"
[19:56] <~Kotono> Going back to sitting, "If you're willing to sacrifice yourself," Looking at Myann, "Throwing your life into the process, you could control the changes your mantle makes to an even higher degree. You might even be able to incarnate into a new body when it's done. The downside is that there's better odds you'd just die at the end."
[19:56] <~Kotono> "If there were sane fey on demand," The elf says dryly, "We wouldn't be here."
[19:56] <Gildas> He nods with a small smile. "Of course."
[19:56] <~Kotono> Here he shakes his head, "A 'new' mantle wouldn't be suitable. It would be like trying to have a child wear an adult's full plate armor."
[19:57] <Feather> "Huh. How about you? I mean, wanna give it a try along with us?"
[19:59] <Gildas> "Didn't Enforcer say that they had tampered with the mantles in the first place? That organization probably knows how to do everything we're actually trying to do." Gildas says. "Trying to get the information will be a challenge, though..."
[19:59] <~Kotono> "No." He slowly shakes his head, "I have enemies in all the older lived courts. The sort of enemies that will cause fey to kill, the worst of the worst. To willingly commit lifetheft against a royal fey..." Here he chuckles, "I insulted the entire over-court of Sumnus by calling them all boring madmen. That doesn't mean I can't help you, though. Just not directly."
[20:00] <Feather> "I'm sure they all, uh, deserved it," Feather says with a touch of uncertainty. "Maybe you could tell us about those guys who are trying to mess up our plans/"
[20:01] <Gildas> "Do they even have a name?" Gildas asks with a gesture of his hand. "I'd think any group like that must call themselves something..."
[20:03] <~Kotono> "Several names," he says, "They use names and dispose of them. They're originally called the Fellowship of the Ten, a group of wizard mercenaries at the time of the war. They got deeply involved in everything," he explains, "The name thing is an old habit from those days. Code names, in other words."
[20:04] <Feather> "Ah! So only seven left?"
[20:04] <~Kotono> "If you killed three, yes," he nods slowly. "Assuming none of them have died in the past centuries."
[20:04] <Gildas> "Yes, they're... still doing that code name thing." Gildas says. "I'm surprised they could recruit a dragon, though..."
[20:05] <@John> "Killed two, got one to leave us alone," John clarifies. "Kingmaker and Slayer, yeah, they're dead."
[20:06] <~Kotono> "Good." He says shortly, "If you're fighting them..." A pulse of power fills the room and your equipment! "A royal gift. CAll it a reward for putting a few of them under." OOC: Loot.
[20:06] <Feather> "Dragons are mages too," Feather says sagely. "Oh, there was something else I wanted to ask. It's about Myann. She said she was getting some new mantle of nobilit--"
[20:08] <~Kotono> Myann's eyes widen, her fatigue gone like smoke in the wind. "That was your mantle?"
[20:08] <Gildas> Gildas blinks. "Distance... ah, I think I understand... a shorter distance to learn something." He nods to himself.
[20:11] * Feather coughs. "So, umm, is Myann's mantle okay? Does she have two? How does it work? Can we use the second one for the world?"
[20:12] <~Kotono> "The mantle of a king." The man before you is now garbed in royal blue robes woven of the sky and decorated with the clouds. In one hand sits a sphere of the entire world, spinning slowly. "I see your mantle of nobility." He waves his hand, "Understand, Mushroom Princess. This new authority will hold even the worst of the fey at bay." Here he nods, "You could. You would have a world that revolves
[20:12] <~Kotono> around her." He sits back, "I never wanted a world where I was king. It's not a price worth paying."
[20:15] <Feather> "How does it hold the worst of them back?" Feather asks curiously, glancing over at Myann despite the man's splendor. "Do you know, Myann? Oh, and is it hard to control? Or feel like it's too much to handle?"
[20:17] <~Kotono> Myann looks the same, albeit a bit distracted. "It's...easier than the mushrooms," she finally says.
[20:19] <Gildas> "I don't think we want to re-create the entire world." Gildas says. "So it sounds like we need to do some... ...I'm not even sure, really. I think we're just aiming to try and focus on the mantles and do something to them... not to everything. But... maybe that's impossible."
[20:19] <~Kotono> Here the king hmms, "You could also use both," he finally says, "A world of mushrooms and royalty. A idyllic kingdom where mushrooms are the symbol, not everything. The nobility and royal mantles have a great deal of flexibility, since they're meant to be able to reward servants and followers. Like what I just did your equpiment." He finally says. "It might be. It's something you'll have to work
[20:19] <~Kotono> with and decide, if you succeed."
[20:20] <@John> "Shame there isn't like a friendship mantle or something like that," John says.
[20:20] <~Kotono> "Reward..." Myann murmurs, flexing her fingers as she looks down at her hands.
[20:21] <~Kotono> "Most concepts like that don't have mantles. How much do you actually know about them?" The king asks.
[20:22] <Feather> "Can you change a mantle? Like from the concept of nobility to one of friendship?" Feather asks curiously.
[20:22] <Gildas> "I think if we understand what was tampered with, we might be able to have a better way of fixing things." Gildas says, then looks to the king. "We know they were adapted from unison and are generally concepts created by nature or naturally occuring things... Ah... They can be created with enough exposure to something over time..." He looks at the others for anything else they want to fill in.
[20:22] * @John just shrugs. He only knows what people tell him.
[20:24] <~Kotono> "No." A shake of his head at that, "A fey develops a mantle and it can't be changed once it does. There's six categories to them: Animal, plant, earth, nature, life and fey. FIrst two are obvious, earth covers rocks, soil and minerals, nature is a catch-all for anything that doesn't fit the other three - including mushrooms, which aren't really plants - life is about life and death and fey is
[20:24] <~Kotono> for concepts related to the fey and nobility. Things like friendship don't fit into any of those. Nobility and royalty wouldn't, except that these are integral to the fey."
[20:26] <Feather> "Ah well. Would be too easy."
[20:26] <~Kotono> Going on, "Animal and plant mantles are the most common and commoner mantles, then earth. Nature and lire generally considered higher ranking and fey themed mantles are for the ruling class. A fey can't determine what mantles they get - it just happens. To another fey, your mantle is as obvious as what color your hair is. You just have to look." Going on after a moment's pause, "Maybe you can
[20:26] <~Kotono> create an artificial mantle. I've heard people have tried, but no one's ever succeeded."
[20:26] <@John> "Life would be pretty good, right? Just make everyone all healthy and energetic... but yeah, hardly matters since Myann's all we've got. Wonder what a mushroom kingdom'd be like?" John ponders.
[20:27] <Gildas> "So that's where he got the idea of the mantle of undeath..." Gildas shakes his head. "Hmm... I guess we just need to keep looking, then. I'm sure we're going to be stopped by a few more of this Organization on the way anyway. We might be able to get answers from them."
[20:29] <~Kotono> "Right. There's another thing, before I forget." He gestures with his free hand, "On the layer below, where the refuge lies, are a remnant of the past war. They're called spiritmen and they hate the fey. Be wary of them. While not overwhelmingly powerful, they will attack en masse if goaded too far."
[20:29] <Gildas> "Oh... yes, we've... met them." Gildas says with a sigh.
[20:30] <~Kotono> "Then you know what to expect. If at all possible, fly. Few of them can do anything about that," he remarks.
[20:30] <Feather> "So that's all enemies. Any allies we can count on, for this thing?"
[20:30] <Gildas> "Some group helped calm them down... Chameleon... something." He shakes his head.
[20:32] <~Kotono> "Few," he admits, "I had allies once on a time, but they had a bad habit of losing to the Fellowship." he sighs a little bit, "If you'd all been born 500 years ago, I'd surround you with a group of protectors. Unfortunately, those days are long past."
[20:33] <Gildas> "I have a feeling we'll meet them as we go." Gildas remarks with a smile. "We tend to happen across all sorts of things."
[20:34] <Feather> "Any way to tell they're genuine and not just those wizards pretending to be on our side?"
[20:35] <~Kotono> "Unfortunately not," he says, "The right magic can discern lies, at least."
[20:36] <Gildas> "I think our next goal should be to recover the ship... thing." Gildas says. "It's all a moot point unless we can get past the lava, anyway."
[20:36] <@John> "You've got to just have faith in people, y'know," John says. "I mean, Enforcer seemed pretty solid to me."
[20:37] <Feather> "It's worked for us so far," Feather agrees.
[20:38] <~Kotono> Myann nods, "Thank you," she kneels a moment, "Your Majesty. You're the only Sidhe I've met who is worthy of respect."
[20:38] <Gildas> Gildas nods to Myann and then bows. "Yes, thank you."
[20:39] <Gildas> "Do you think we should pay anyone a visit on our way back?" He looks at the others. "We know where Lady Valisha's court is, and we might've passed Prince Broadpyne's."
[20:40] <~Kotono> "If you're returning home," The king speaks up, "I can hasten your trip."
[20:41] <Feather> "No," Feather tells Gildas, shaking his head, before he mirrors Myann and kneels. "Majesty. An honor." It's easier to do now that he doesn't look like he had when they just arrived!
[20:41] <@John> If everyone else is doing it, John kneels as well!
[20:42] <Feather> "It would be great if we could return in a hurry," Feather readily agrees.
[20:43] <~Kotono> "Done," The king waves a hand, as reality shifts. "Let the old magics guide you." WIth that, reality breaks down before the party appears in Feather and Myann's living room. OOC: React and we'll pause there.
[20:44] <Gildas> "I think it'd get boring to go places that quickly." Gildas remarks. "Never caught his name, though..."
[20:44] <@John> "Just call him king? But yeah, I reckon it's good if you're just going back the way you came."
[20:45] <Feather> "I'm with John. Who wants to-- oh wait, didn't we leave someone behind by the fairy circle?"
[20:46] <@John> "Oh... what a shame," John says, turning away to hide his smile.
[20:46] <Gildas> "I'm sure she'll find her way here." He says.
