<Kotono> Fire. Smoke. Rocks. Ruin. Corpses. Terror. Fleeing. The next few minutes (enough to expend Lucy's shield spell) are spent navigating the streets. Chaos is all around you as you reach a devastated row of fine houses. They're like nice manor homes more than anything else - albeit generally on fire, under assault from above or otherwise in hell. But there are few people out on this street, at least.
<Kotono> The manor of Flanagan has a wrought-iron gate that's been pushed back and torn off the hinges. The lawn is pockmarked by a few catapult-caused craters. The front doors to the manor are 80ft ahead and open. Standing guard are a pair of pirates. One has a scimitar like the others, while the other carries a mace.
<Lucy> 'Try to grab the one with the scimitar,' Lucy suggests to Pepo, trying to work her power on the mace-wielding pirate. 'I'll see about the other one.'
<Kotono> The pirates can see the party, or at least you presume so. They aren't immediately reacting.
<Pepo> Pepo jumps out from Lucy's arms and replies mentally, 'Controlling others is power intensive. I may have to ration it.'
<Veren > "How do you wish to do this, then?"
<Lucy> 'Ah. We can just kill them, then,' Lucy responds, and then gestures at the pirates. "We'll take a page from their own book. Concentrate on putting the mace-wielder down. I'll lead, so be prepared to intercept them if they try to close the distance."
<Kotono> The one with the mace glances back into the manor and calls something. It's pretty soft and doesn't carry, but he visibly speaks.
* Veren nods and begins to move forwards them.
<Kotono> At moving forward, the two pirates eye them and call, "Back off!" the one with the mace calls in Common. His voice is rather deep and rasping. "Only warning!"
<Veren > OOC: At 60 ft. I want to DT the one who spoke inside.
* Lucy hardly waits after deciding upon her plan, and after a light kiss of her fingertips four magic missiles are sent towards her target, soon joined by four more!
* Veren continues advancing, palming a dagger.

<Kotono> The pirate with the scimitar holds position, visibly on guard. OOC: He's defending himself.
<Moore> "All right, everyone! Let's get rid of these pirates and figure out why they're here!" Moore shouts to the others before he vanishes from sight but flies forward 30 feet! OOC: Inspire  Courage

<Lucy> "Coming here is bound to turn out even more informative, then!" Lucy says cheerfully, sending a barrage that far exceeds the normal limits of Magic Missile at the mace wielder she had marked for death with grace and flourish!

<Kotono> The scimitar pirate is peppered with missiles, falling to a knee as they pierce his body. He's still up if just barely, gasping. Meanwhile another comes into view. Another pirate, this one without a veil or visible weapon. His face is painted, half gone from sweat. It's in the design of a skull, and you can see a scarred human-ish face beneath it. His lips curl into a sneer of contempt, before
<Kotono> he points at Lucy and chants. The spell is brief, before a tiny spark of fire flies at her. There's a moment of nothing, then it explodes around her! OOC: Ref save Lucy, Pepo and Adaea. You just got fireballed.

<Kotono> Pepo simply cat-leaps up, landing on the torn-up iron gate. It's away from the fire and he evades it entirely. Lucy is able to dodge and shield herself with her arms, blocking the worst of it. Adaea? She's caught wide-eyed, and when it clears. She's only the ground, screaming and thrashing. She's ablaze and blackening before your eyes, her thrashing and screaming slowing. In a few moments she's

<Pepo> Pepo's hackles raise and his fur stiffens, making him look bigger... it may not intimidate this prey but it's a natural response. Adaea was the best person he'd met after waking up and he won't let her death go unavenged. Jumping off the gate he scurries forward, disappearing from the sight of all but the most keen eyes. <Kotono> The skull-faced mage snaps something in an unknown tongue to all but Lucy, "Kill the bastard!" he snaps, the scimitar pirate dropping his defense and charging right at Veren.

<Moore> Moore flies over nearby Veren and puts a few simple words together and casts a spell of Haste onto Veren and himself! "Use the boon of swiftness to quickly dispatch the rest of them!" Moore calls out, still invisible.
<Kotono> OOC: Hasted you two, then.
<Kotono> OOC: Lucky and Mr. Skull.
<Lucy> "I am displeased," Lucy informs the pirate that set her on fire and made her lose a minion that still had her use. Her lips a thin line that threatens to become a frown, she strides forward as daggers once more take flanking positions just above her shoulders and a shield springs up around her. "Congratulations, mage. You made me take you a little bit more seriously."
<Lucy> OOC: Move 30ft closer, standard for steeldance, quick shield/metamagic specialist
<Kotono> The skull-faced mage sneers even more, pointing at Moore. In his unknown language Lucy hears him say, "Crumble to rust, whimper into ruin," A rust-red ray comes from his finger, right for Veren. OOC: He'll respond to Lucy after this resolves.

Veren stumbles, gasps and falls flat on his back, bleeding out and falling into death's near-embrace. The skull-faced mage turns to Lucy and raises his hand, gesturing. "Bring it, bitch," he sneers as he speaks in his unknown

<Pepo> A ray of flame arcs out from somewhere nearby and lashes against the mage's back in retribution, all colours of orange, red, white, and blue present and spiraling crazily as it seems to come from multiple angles at once before it solidifies...

<Kotono> Just as he gestures at Lucy, the mage's chest is pierced from behind. A red ray bursts through, leaving a bloodless hole in his chest. The wizard looks down in blank-faced shock, moments before fire erupts out of the hole. He screams as his body turns into an inferno, trashing as he falls to the ground. He's burning just like Adaea now, fed to the fires. OOC: Veren. Stabilization check. d100.

<Kotono> Veren stirs. The healing stops the worst of the bleeding. He's prone on the ground, vision tinted red. His ears are filled with a faraway roar...something. He was close to something, but it eludes him like a dream in the sunlight of morning. Meanwhile, the scimitar pirate withdraws, running to the side and through a crater, racing away to the left and through the yard. OOC: He's full on retreating.

* Lucy runs after him as she gives chase, and as she catches up her daggers strike into the cowardly pirate's back!

<Lucy> With a snort, Lucy proceeds into the house proper as she calls upon Detect Magic and her unnatural vision alike.
<Pepo> Pepo remains hidden as he goes into the house ahead of Lucy. There's still at least one pirate there.
<Moore> "Woah, woah, there." Moore says as he reappears in front of Veren. "Don't go moving just yet, you're still really badly injured."
* Veren stumbles a bit and nods.
> "Thank you, Moore."
* Veren begins moving towards the building, looking around for the missing pirate...
<Kotono> Lucy and Pepo are ahead. The front of the house is largely intact. It leads into a living room, nice enough. Not that you're here to sightsee. A few doors are about and one is open, on the side. Light comes from it.
<Moore> "Give me just a second, okay?" He says with a smile and clears his throat. "Healing isn't just words, its actions. Time heals all wounds, but sometimes you need a little bit of magic." OOC: Using Healing Hymn, so giving Veren a +11 bonus to healing if he has anything to use it on, as well as myself.
<Moore> Moore then moves over and places a hand on Veren's shoulder and channels two spells into him!

<Kotono> Veren's wounds heal quickly, bringing back vitality and restoring his injuries.

<Pepo> Pepo stalks towards the open door...
<Veren > "Thank you, again. I will do my best, but what must be done, will be done."
* Veren moves towards the house with much more strength in his step, following Pepo's lead and trying to move into the shadows as he enters the house.
<Moore> "...And no more mind-scanning me, either." He says with a nod and a smile as he flies along with Veren before he just goes back to being invisible!
* Veren decides he can acquiesce to this...
* Lucy heads for the door with the light.
<Kotono> The party heads for the door. There's lamps on the wall that shed light, a short hallway to a stairway down.
<Kotono> There's faint magic all over the house, as well as magic coming from below. OOC: Spellcraft.

<Kotono> The house has a simple enchantment to resist minor wear and tear. Useful but unremarkable. There's magic at the bottom of the stairs. Peering down, you can see the signature of a wall of fire, just out of sight.
<Veren > "If any of you find a scroll to reverse Lady Asdra's condition, please tell me. I wish to witness her wrath on these pirates."
* Veren holds a grudge, apparently.
<Pepo> OOC: can I smell any people around? Or blood trails from mace?
<Lucy> "Fire," Lucy says softly, descending.
<Kotono> Pepo can smell humanoids below...and something that freezes his blood. It's a scent that brings to mind too-long arms, twisting joints, unseeing eyes. His fur stands on end in spite of himself. It's a scent that's not a scent at all, something horridly unnatural to Pepo's nose.
<Pepo> 'Something bad downstairs... not natural at all,' Pepo warns Lucy, his usual booming voice uncharacteristically soft. But nonetheless, he descends...
<Kotono> The party descends down slightly. It's enough to see the end of the staircase, stopped cold by a wall of blue fire. It blocks the way ahead and sheds strong heat. Getting any closer is likely dangerous.
<Veren > OOC: Is that the only direction?
<Lucy> "Can any of you get past this?" Lucy asks.
<Moore> "I could try and remove it." Moore says, coming back into sight.
<Veren > "I cannot. I have nothing that can dispel magic... Yet."
<Lucy> "Do that."
<Pepo> Pepo waits for Moore to try. Better that he can preserve his might.
<Kotono> OOC: Yes.
<Moore> Moore casts a quick Detect Magic to see if he gives him any insight into how to get rid of the fire!

<Kotono> Moore - it comes through the wall of fire. A head on a neck, too long. Like a strand of pale gray spaghetti, lightly furred. The head is like a heavy rock, no nose and barely any mouth at all. Only a tiny little slit that moves in a constant murmur. The creature's eyes are not eyes. They twist, turn. Like corridors into each other, twisting together like an endlessly repeating knot. Those eyes

<Moore> Moore lets out a breath as he reappears and lands in front of Pepo. "Are you all right?" He asks.
* Lucy gets her seething under control and looks around for anything magically-useful or merely interesting. Notes and maps would fit the bill for latter.
* Veren reaches down and takes back his daggers, and begins to check over the corpses for anything worthwhile.
