Session Start: Mon Nov 03 11:36:35 2014
Session Ident: #dunes
* Now talking in #dunes
* Topic is 'Ectoplasm Orb(27)>Moore(26)>Lucy(24)>Bash(22)>Pepo(18) '
* Set by Kotono on Thu Oct 30 12:37:52
<Kotono> ---------
<Kotono> > The thrown axe cleaves through the shocked sphere, bisecting it. It falls into two broken halves, reduced to gummy ectoplasm. The weapons crumble in form as well, becoming little more than stains. OOC: Free act.
<Kotono> <Lucy> "Well, wasn't this exciting?"
<Kotono> > Bash holds his shoulder, stemming blood from a gash there. "Exciting as nearly dying is. Shit!"
<Kotono> <Pepo> Pepo keeps his wall up for now, in case any more monsters come at them.
<Kotono> <Lucy> "Haven't you said you never saw this before? New knowledge, appearing before your very eyes!"
<Kotono> <Moore> "Once I'm done with this, I can take care of the injuries." Moore says as he focuses on playing.
<Kotono> OOC: Going to keep playing and waiting on Veren to return with items, then?
<Lucy> OOC: Okay
<Moore> OOC: Yar.
<Kotono> Moore continues to build. 40ft and then 50ft, the light impenetrable past about 30ft down. It seeps into the stones themselves, the light nigh overwhelming even filtered like that. Meanwhile, Veren returns with scrolls and wand. OOC: Go ahead and sort that as you please, y'all.
<Pepo> Pepo by now is just lying down with his eyes closed, but focus remains to maintaining the lightning wall.
<Lucy> "Has anyone studied how this light really works?"
<Veren > "Lucy, the shop I found didn't have the scroll you wanted... I don't think. The creature that ran it spoke oddly, I'm not sure we fully understood each other. I did pick up these scrolls and this wand of healing, though."
* Veren holds the items up for inspection.
<Lucy> "Right," she says dubiously.
<Veren > "I'm not actually sure what I got from him is what I wanted, to be honest."
<Pepo> 'I have remembered something useful,' Pepo's voice booms in everyone's minds as his eyes open. 'I possess the power to manipulate light levels.'
<Kotono> "its light," Bash rubs his shoulder and grimaces, currently using some rags to bind his wounds. "It just is." Grimacing again as he tightens a knot, "Most of the religious types have differing opinions about it, too."
<Lucy> 'How about giving this a try?' Lucy suggests to Pepo. "How about actual studies conducted on the matter?"
<Moore> 'By all means, if you want to try while I work on this!' Moore answers as he continues to play.
<Kotono> "Dunno," Bash remarks as he finishes up, rubbing his hands clean with another rag. Below you can hear the sound of stone moving and forming a tunnel, hidden by the light.
<Pepo> Ignoring the wall now, though it will remain for nearly a minute regardless, Pepo walks over to the light outside of Moore's tunnel, and wills it to decrease in field 20 feet wide and 70 feet deep.
<Kotono> OOC: How much PP does that take?
<Pepo> OOC: 1
<Kotono> OOC: Make a psicraft check.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18 psicraft
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20+18 psicraft and gets 25." 12 [1d20=7]
<Veren > "Could one of you check to see what exactly it is I got from the creature?"
<Kotono> Ugh! It's like trying to make his mind move a mountain. The light has a weight to it, felt by Pepo as a crushing pressure inside his brain. It takes all his willpower to keep the psionics steady, slowly lessening the light. You can now see to the end of the tunnel, now at 55ft down. But the effect simply fails entirely the moment it's outside the tunnel, though you can see it extending as the
<Kotono> tunnel builds further down.
<Pepo> OOC: I wasn't affecting light inside the tunnel at all. I was picking a random spot away from Moore's work.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, scratch that. Reading failure.
<Kotono> The light flickers for the first 20ft or so. It dims a good deal, and 20ft further down it lessens. But past that it simply doesn't lessen at all. It's like trying to move a mountain with his mind. It gets heavier as you spread the effect further down, notably. It's like trying to smother the source of an incredibly powerful spell or manifestation, stronger than anything Pepo's ever felt.
<Kotono> (Granted, that isn't much in his current week and a half or so of memories.)
<Pepo> Still focusing on his efforts, he tries to completely dim the light to pure blackness... which might not be any better for vision, but he has dark vision! OOC: say I was going for 50% last time now I'm trying 100%
<Kotono> Pepo is able to dim the light up to 20ft down into darkness. From 20 to 40ft it's a sort of dimness that gives way to full brightness at 40ft. It's just too heavy, in a way that pounds at Pepo's cat brain. It's like he's having to try to affect all the light he can see and so much more.
<Pepo> So much for that. He mrowls unhappily and gives it up as a bad effort. 'Whatever Kamhoff may have told us, it is not 'just' light,' he advises the others.
<Lucy> 'Can you try the tunnel next?' Lucy requests from Pepo. 'So that we'll see anything coming from it sooner?' Then, with a mental sigh, she looks over Veren's purchases as she smiles pleasantly at him.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, quickly post your take 10 results in loot and I'll reply there.
<Pepo> 'Very well,' he says, moving to the head of the tunnel and damping down the light from 30 feet down to... well as far as he can see. He doubts he'd use up his full capability on altering levels within the tunnel even if it was hundreds of feet. Though he expects it'll have no effect at all anyway.
<Kotono> Within the tunnel, the light of the rocks is suppressed. You can see down to 55ft (and slowly further as the tunnel builds), but it fails the moment the tunnel ends. It's easier and less heavy within the tunnel, though the same weight manifests outside of it.
<Lucy> "A very nice if elementary healing wand," Lucy tells Veren, tapping it with a fingertip. "And the scrolls would give you a fighting chance against ghosts, although no certainty. As expected."
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, going to do anything else now or just watch the tunnel extend? Also, how long does your light ability last, Pepo?
* Veren nods and puts them away.
<Veren > "Bash, will you continue with us? If so, I could use the wand to heal you a bit."
<Pepo> OOC: 8 minutes as long as I concentrate
<Kotono> Bash shakes his head. "I'm not going down there, damn it. I still think this is a damned fool's errand." OOC: Noted, Pepo.
* Veren nods and puts the wand away, waiting for Pepo and Moore to finish their work.
<Kotono> 8 minutes pass. The tunnel's now 90ft deep. You can almost start to see something in the light, though Pepo can feel his light-control ability about to fade. No more poltergeists or anything so far, too.
<Pepo> Now Pepo elects to descend the tunnel down sixty feet so he can see better before damping the light levels on its trajectory once more.
<Lucy> "It seems as if we are close?" Lucy muses, staying near Moore for the time being.
* Veren decides to follow Pepo since Lucy is staying near Moore, and keeps a scroll handy.
<Kotono> The party goes down as Moore works. 90ft, 95ft. In the light you can see what looks like a wooden ship's deck. It's hard to see even from here and with your veils, the radiance painful to look at long. 5ft until the tunnel reaches it.
<Kotono> OOC: Subtract another 1PP for another manifestation of control light, Pepo.
<Pepo> OOC: you mean for the one I just cast (which I obv did) or am I bleeding pp?
<Kotono> OOC: The one you just cast. Also quickly make psicraft again.
<Kotono> OOC: So yeah, you're current then, just making sure.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18 psicraft
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20+18 psicraft and gets 31." 12 [1d20=13]
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. You're still on ground level, Moore?
<Moore> OOC: Correct.
<Kotono> The tunnel reaches the deck. The moment it does, Moore's harp makes a sour note and the melody abruptly stops. Sparks of blue and green magic cascade from the harp, as suddenly a tremendous suction assails the three in the tunnel. Moore can see air sucked down the tunnel's mouth, loose bits of dirt, wood and other things quickly gushing down. OOC: The three of you can make Str checks to resist,
<Kotono> or another standard action to resist/do something else if you feel it might be productive. You can as well, Moore, though obviously going into the tunnel would subject you to the suction.
<Kotono> OOC: Two then, Lucy's up there. My  mistake.
<Pepo> roll 1d20-1 I am not strong
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20-1 I am not strong and gets 18." 12 [1d20=19]
<Veren > roll 1d20+1 Str Check
* Hatbot --> "Veren rolls 1d20+1 Str Check and gets 6." 12 [1d20=5]
<Kotono> OOC: What about you two up there? If you wanna do a standard action, you're free to. I'll resolve after or if you pass.
<Kotono> "Shit!" Bash steps back hastily from the tunnel, as a flying hunk of wood hits him in the back of the head. He stumbles and swears, "The fuck is happening?"
<Lucy> "Perhaps a rope could be secured?" Lucy muses, casting Shield upon herself.
<Moore> "I...I'm not sure!" Moore yelps as he tries to figure out what exactly -is- going on with a Detect Magic! OOC: If that's possible, anyway.
<Kotono> OOC: Sure. Spellcraft.
<Moore> roll 1d20+12
* Hatbot --> "Moore rolls 1d20+12 and gets 16." 12 [1d20=4]
<Kotono> Lucy wards herself while Moore attempts to study it. There's magic coming out of the tunnel now - suction! Beyond that he can't figure it, as below Pepo claws on tight. He grabs onto the wooden deck with his claws, only his front paws hanging on. He's blown back like a flag that won't quite give way. Veren isn't so lucky - he's pulled off his feet and down, plunging into the deck! He goes right
<Kotono> through it like a ghost, out of sight. OOC: #evildunes, Veren.
<Kotono> OOC: The rest of you can take a round's actions. A str check will be required at the end if you're still in the tunnel (or go into it for non Pepo people).
<Lucy> "This would be the best of times for a rope," Lucy repeats, unable to resist casting her own spell to study the magic as Moore had done right in front of her.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+16 spellcraft
* Hatbot --> "Lucy rolls 1d20+16 spellcraft and gets 18." 12 [1d20=2]
<Kotono> It's suction. Powerful suction. Unfortunately Lucy can't puzzle out more. For such a simple effect, it's really rather complicated. Someone went to some effort here.
<Moore> "I don't think it's long enough!" Moore exclaims. "I can try and dispel it, but I don't know if it'll work!"
<Pepo> Pepo doesn't just talk about dispelling it, he gets right to business!
<Pepo> roll 1d100 wild surge
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d100 wild surge and gets 88." 12 [1d100=88]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+9+8 dispel psionics
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20+9+8 dispel psionics and gets 18." 12 [1d20=1]
<Pepo> OOC: er, that was with 4pp augmented, implied by the +8 there
<Pepo> roll 1d20-1 str check after that
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20-1 str check after that and gets 8." 12 [1d20=9]
<Kotono> OOC: That's two. Moore, going to try or do anything but talk?
<Moore> OOC: I'll try and dispel it, I suppose.
<Moore> roll 1d20+8
* Hatbot --> "Moore rolls 1d20+8 and gets 14." 12 [1d20=6]
<Kotono> Dispels are hurled at the effect, but none of them click. Instead Pepo is pulled away with a loud MROOOWR and tossed through the deck as well. OOC: You're in #evil in a moment, Pepo. I'll intro you. While I do that, anything to mitigate falling for you?
<Pepo> roll 1d20+19 acrobatics
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20+19 acrobatics and gets 30." 12 [1d20=11]
<Kotono> OOC: I'll resolve you in there, but that helped.
<Lucy> "Oh for the love of--" Lucy visibly calms herself with several deep breaths. "This is ridiculous. Moore, this is the part where you heal me a bit and I see just what is happening there, below the deck."
<Kotono> Once Pepo is gone, the suction ceases. OOC: Free act. One round of action each, you two, since I'll keep you concurrent with #evildunes since it's in combat.
<Moore> Moore blinks but nods. "Okay!" Moore holds a hand out to heal Lucy's injuries!
<Moore> roll 1d8+5
* Hatbot --> "Moore rolls 1d8+5 and gets 11." 12 [1d8=6]
* Lucy forms a triangle over her forehead with her hands, letting her inner eye take a look just below decks!
<Kotono> OOC: Spot check.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+20
* Hatbot --> "Lucy rolls 1d20+20 and gets 22." 12 [1d20=2]
<Kotono> Lucy's injuries heal as she looks below. It's pure light. Not blinding and not painful, but just a featureless sea of white. Well no, you can see faint ripples that might be things moving, but it's just too damned bright right now. OOC: Next turn after the other room's next turn. Hold a sec.
<Kotono> Suddenly the darkness lessens. Lucy can see in there, including Pepo's escape and the other figure appearing. OOC: Act you two.
<Lucy> "They're still alive," Lucy says in satisfaction. "Do heal me up a bit more and then get to work securing a rope for them while I fetch our friends?"
<Moore> Moore nods and heals Lucy again!
<Moore> roll 1d8+5
* Hatbot --> "Moore rolls 1d8+5 and gets 10." 12 [1d8=5]
<Kotono> Lucy's wounds heal further. OOC: That it for this round for you two, or do you have an action 'cept talking, Lucy?
* Lucy then takes a step forward and vanishes, teleporting herself to a corner of the room below decks.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, I'll integrate you in.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay Moore. Are you doing anything up here alone now?
<Moore> OOC: I'm going to see if Bash can help me with a rope longer than 50 ft. Otherwise I'll ask him to tie the rope of stone around himself since he can probably better anchor things than I can.
<Kotono> OOC: He'll go and grab one. It's the sort of thing they'd have here, just in case. Another 125ft of hemp rope, since they do basic math at least.
<Moore> OOC: Okay. In that case that's about it for me for now.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, I'll finish the combat in #evil, since that'll likely resolve before you can do too much here.
<Kotono> OOC: Going to anchor him and head on down, Moore?
<Moore> OOC: Sure.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, I'll move you into #evil shortly.
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
