Session Start: Wed Nov 19 11:41:00 2014
Session Ident: #dunes
* Now talking in #dunes
* Topic is 'Pepo(31)>Moore(27)>Veren(26)>Lucy(20)>Bear(3) '
* Set by Kotono on Tue Nov 18 14:06:04
<Kotono> ---
<Kotono> > The wings come out, protecting Lucy. Veren hits against them hard, a loud CRACK as he hits head first against them. He falls in a heap at Lucy's feet, bloodied and dazed. OOC: You're prone, Veren. Pepo, we'll start with you next time.
<Kotono> OOC: Pepo, go.
<Pepo> From how hard it threw Veren, Pepo determines that the bear is actually pretty scary and would probably straight up devour him given half the chance. So as appealing as bravely leaping up and clawing/biting out its throat might be, and as low as his psionic potential is, Pepo decides to make the bear work for him.
<Pepo> roll 1d100 5+ wild surge
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 99 > 12 [d100=99]
<Pepo> OOC: psionic dominate augmented 2pp, DC 22 will
<Kotono> roll 1d20+9
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 23 > 12 [d20=14]
<Kotono> Under this command, the bear goes still, dominated by Pepo's feline mind. OOC: Free act for now since it's not hostile.
<Pepo> 'The bear is mine,' Pepo broadcasts, 'I will send it to the opposite curtain.' And he does just that, ordering it to go over and push through the curtain to maul whatever's behind it.
* Veren tries to slip out of its grip.
<Lucy> "I will support you," Lucy says pleasantly, getting into position to do so.
<Moore> OOC: You got thrown by it.
<Kotono> As Veren was tossed aside, getting out of its grip is already done. He's able to stand up, at least. The moment the bear opens the curtain, there's a flash as a knight in full plate armor appears, laying into the bear's back before anyone can react.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+13 (-8 PA)
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 27 > 12 [d20=14]
<Kotono> roll 2d6+31+1d6+1d6+1d6+6d6
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 67 > 12 [d6=4,3,1,1,2,6,1,5,2,5,6]
* Veren staggers a bit, but pulls out his healing wand and tries to use it on himself.
<Kotono> The knight's great sword crackles with fire, lightning and ice. It plunges into the back of the bear, grievously wounding it. It's bleeding all over as it raises its blade up again! OOC: Init here. Veren, you got regrettably preempted by curtain summons.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+6+8
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 19 > 12 [d20=5]
<Veren > roll 1d20+4+8 init
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 16 > 12 [d20=4]
<Moore> roll 1d20+5+8
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=2]
<Kotono> OOC: Handle the bear in combat, Pepo. It's a standard dire bear from the SRD.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+6 Knight
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 13 > 12 [d20=7]
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4+8
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 23 > 12 [d20=11]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Lucy(23)>Pepo(19)>Veren(16)>Moore(15)>Knight(13) '
<Pepo> roll 1d20+1 bear
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 3 > 12 [d20=2]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Lucy(23)>Pepo(19)>Veren(16)>Moore(15)>Knight(13)>Bear(3) '
<Kotono> OOC: Open Lucy.
<Lucy> She might not have had the time to react before that savage attack, but she's certainly positioned well enough to exploit the situation! Her wings erupt from her back and then the knight is shredded by them!
<Lucy> roll 8d6 ref DC23 for half and to avoid daze
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 27 > 12 [d6=2,4,2,4,1,6,6,2]
<Kotono> roll 1d20+10 ref
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=1]
<Kotono> The knight is struck dead on by the flurry of wings, dazed and stumbling back. It makes not a sound as...OOC: Pepo.
<Pepo> Pepo sneaks up behind the dazed knight and suddenly leaps out of the darkness, a claw penetrating one of the joints in his armor!
<Pepo> roll 1d20+14 stealthed claw
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 29 > 12 [d20=15]
<Kotono> OOC: Hit.
<Pepo> roll 1d2-1+2d6
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 9 > 12 [d2=1][d6=5,4]
<Kotono> Pepo finds a little chink in the armor, drawing blood as he rips through the flesh of the knight beneath it. It gets the knight in the knee, enough to make him stagger. OOC: Ow. Veren.
* Veren steps in close to stab the knight!
<Veren > roll 1d20+13 ATK 1
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 14 > 12 [d20=1]
<Veren > roll 1d20+8 ATK 2
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 12 > 12 [d20=4]
<Kotono> Veren steps in, woozy and off balance from his wounds. He stabs out but can't find a weak spot in the knight's armor, blade glancing off its chest plate. OOC: I lack words for Iddy's luck at this rate. Moore.
<Moore> Moore clears his throat and decides to try and reduce the effectiveness of this knight creature while it's dazed! "Harken, cur, here you shall find only your defeat!" OOC: Haunting Melody, DC 22 will
<Moore> OOC: *here
<Kotono> roll 1d20+10 will
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=5]
<Kotono> OOC: Shaken then. Shaken and dazed, so it takes no action. Bear.
<Pepo> Roaring in rage, the bear lays into the knight with vicious fury, needing no prompting from Pepo to do so!
<Pepo> roll 1d20+17 claw 1
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 35 > 12 [d20=18]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+17 claw 2
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 28 > 12 [d20=11]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+11 bite
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d20=11]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18 cmb for grab while I wait to see what hit. First one surely did.
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=8]
<Kotono> OOC: All hit.
<Pepo> roll 2d4+10+2d4+10+2d8+5
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 47 > 12 [d4=2,1,3,1][d8=7,8]
<Kotono> roll 2d6+10 extra bear hug damage
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 17 > 12 [d6=2,5]
<Kotono> The bear leaps onto the knight, ripping into his armor like it isn't there. He grabs a hold of it, squeezing, biting and clawing. The knight is now bleeding all over and held in a death grip. Only this time, he offers the knight's torn-open back out, an easy target instead of a shield. OOC: Lucy.
* Lucy sends a quartet of magical missiles his way.
<Lucy> roll 4d4+4
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 13 > 12 [d4=2,2,2,3]
<Kotono> The missiles hit true, pelting the knight's back. He rocks in the bear's hug, shuddering tremendously. OOC: Ow. Pepo.
<Pepo> With the bear keeping the knight from defending or retaliating, Pepo unsheathes his claws and bites as he goes for the knight's vulnerable armpit!
<Pepo> roll 1d20+14 claw 1
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 25 > 12 [d20=11]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+14 claw 2
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=12]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+9 bite
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=12]
<Kotono> OOC: All hit.
<Pepo> roll 1d2-1+2d6+1d2-1+2d6+1d3-1+2d6
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d2=1][d6=5,2][d2=1][d6=4,1][d3=2][d6=5,4]
<Kotono> With the knight's back exposed, Pepo goes for the kill. He leaps up and tears into the knight's side, ripping open ribs and heart. The knight shudders and vanishes, leaving naught behind but a few whiffs of purple smoke. OOC: Free act.
* Lucy claps.
<Moore> Moore tilts his head to the side. "So these are just illusions?" Moore asks.
* Veren leans against the wall for a moment to gain his breath, then reaches for his wand to try and heal himself.
<Kotono> OOC: Make your UMD checks.
<Veren > roll 1d20+10 UMD Healz
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 20 > 12 [d20=10]
<Kotono> OOC: DC is 20, so success. Roll your healing.
<Pepo> Licking his chops, Pepo announces, 'I will distract the next one with a weak construct. Gather around its rear to counter the ambush as it happens?' he suggests that last, waiting for Veren to begin healing before he acts out the plan.
* Lucy has been planning as much, and appreciates the early warning.
<Pepo> The bear is naturally sent over as well.
<Veren > roll 1d8+5 CLW
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 7 > 12 [d8=2]
<Veren > roll 1d20+10 UMD Healz 2
<Kotono> Veren's wounds somewhat mend. OOC: Repeat as often as desired, unless you roll a 1.
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=1]
<Kotono> OOC: Yep.
<Kotono> Gah! The wand stops up - Veren can't get it to work anymore.
<Moore> "Goodness, you really don't have much luck with those, do you?" Moore calls out as he flies over to lay a hand on Veren's shoulder and give him some healing.
<Moore> roll 2#1d8+5
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 8, 13 >
<Kotono> Veren's wounds repair themselves in part, his injuries fading away to fresh skin and restored flesh.
<Moore> "Do you want another?" Moore asks.
* Veren hands Moore the wand instead.
<Veren > "Use that instead."
<Moore> Moore takes the wand and laughs before he puts a hand on him again to heal him once more time. "It doesn't take much energy to do this a few times. We should save this for an emergency."
<Moore> roll 1d8+5 one more
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 9 > 12 [d8=4]
<Moore> "I think we're good to go, Mister Pepo." Moore announces.
<Pepo> And so Pepo constructs a small monkey made out of ectoplasm which waits a moment by the curtain for anyone who wants to get into position (Pepo just hides) before throwing them open! OOC: buff level 1 construct
<Pepo> roll 1d20+33 stealth for cat
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 41 > 12 [d20=8]
<Kotono> OOC: Which curtain?
<Pepo> OOC: the one opposite our entry point
<Pepo> OOC: wait, misread
<Pepo> OOC: on the left of bear/right of knight
<Kotono> That curtain is thrown aside. Nothing happens - and ahead you can see a passage leading deeper in. It's much darker down there, you'll need artificial light.
<Lucy> "Would you mind sending the bear in?"
<Pepo> 'Reposition by the last curtain,' Pepo says, bear and monkey both moving over, bear ready to strike and monkey ready to pull. And that's what happens a second later!
<Kotono> That curtain is thrown open. There's nothing behind this one at all, perhaps fortunately. No monster comes, either.
<Pepo> 'Yes,' Pepo says and both bear and monkey lead the way down the dark passage, monkey just a bit ahead to hopefully get some use before it dissolves.
* Veren follows, trying to keep an eye out for any traps or anything.
<Moore> Moore clears his throat. "Hold on, in case we run into any other problems... Healing magic, healing magic..." OOC: Using a charge of bardic music to use Healing Hymn before we go any further.
<Moore> roll 2#1d8+13
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 15, 17 >
<Moore> "Does anyone have a torch or something? I don't think I can see much further in here." Moore says after he heals the bear up a bit.
<Pepo> Obviously Pepo doesn't have one just from looking at him. Assuming one could, as he stealthily skulks behind the lumbering ursid.
<Veren > "I do not."
<Lucy> "Let there be light," Lucy announces, lighting up one of her daggers and helpfully holding it up.
<Kotono> With light, the party proceeds onward. The passage continues for about 100ft before it starts getting notably warmer.
<Moore> "Thanks!"
<Lucy> "Oh, certainly!"
<Pepo> It'll take more than a little warmth to deter Pepo!
<Moore> Moore decides to keep an eye out for magic while they're walking along!
<Kotono> OOC: Spell craft, Moore.
<Kotono> OOC: -4 this time.
<Moore> roll 1d20+8
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=18]
<Kotono> There's magic all over here, thick and heavy. Something's trying to obfuscate it, hide the magic, but Moore is able to make some sense of it. There's a spell that's tracking you, watching your progress. There's also magic that's playing merry hell with the heat of this area.
<Moore> Moore frowns. "We've... erm... there's some magic here that's watching us. There's also something trying to hide the fact that there's even magic here at all.... but the heat is evident that it's here. It's not supposed to be this hot normally."
<Lucy> "That would explain why nothing jumped out of the other curtains," Lucy muses, still smiling. "It sounds like quite the interesting magical effect!" And she takes her own look.
<Pepo> 'Could be an enemy. Try to keep some tactics in reserve so we can surprise them if it becomes a fight?' Pepo suggests.
<Veren > "Why would they need it this warm in here?"
<Moore> "It might be some sort of elaborate trial." Moore says with a sigh. "The heat is probably to deter us."
<Lucy> roll 1d20+16-4
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 14 > 12 [d20=2]
<Kotono> OOC: Lucy tries to analyze things, but it's just a blur. Damned suppression.
* Lucy pouts as the tricky magic evades her once more.
<Moore> "I suppose we may as well see what else they have in store for us?" Moore asks, knowing the answer already.
<Kotono> OOC: Going on then, y'all?
<Veren > OOC: Sure.
<Kotono> The party proceeds on for about five minutes of walking. It's gone from warm to swelteringly hot, the air hard to breathe. Ahead is a passage leading to a sharply rising path. You can't see far up it, but a red glow comes from it.
<Moore> "Be careful about the air, everyone." Moore calls out, deciding to offer everyone a bit more fortitude for now. OOC: Switching from the +dex/init minor aura to +fortitude checks.
<Pepo> Pepo resolves to develop his psionic talents in order to counter these sorts of temperature extremes, but for now he gamely pushes on thanks to Moore's encouragement.
* Veren nods to Moore and makes a mental note to use his abilities to increase his toughness as well.
* Lucy wonders whether an item or a spell would do better to deal with this potential weakness. It certainly feels like she'd thought about this before. Now if only she could remember the conclusions she reached at the time....
<Kotono> OOC: Noted Moore.
<Kotono> On the party walks, the path steep and tall. At the end it becomes a sheer wall, but with a ladder going on. On cresting it, the party sees that it extends out into a walkway. A walkway 50ft long and over a massive chasm, a red glow coming from below. Glancing down, you can see a sea of lava far beneath you. At the other end of the walkway is a jagged platform roughly in the form of a square.
<Kotono> Here sits a silver harp.
<Lucy> Looks like time for another look at the magic!
* Veren inspects it!
<Moore> Moore tries to take a look at the ambient magic as well, just in case anything has changed!
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18 engineering, does the bridge look sound?
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=8]
<Kotono> The bridge does not look sound. By any rational measure, it should collapse. The fact that it hasn't implies magic or a trap. Or both, really.
<Kotono> OOC: Spell craft -6, Moore.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+16-6
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 14 > 12 [d20=4]
<Moore> roll 1d20+6
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=9]
<Kotono> Neither Lucy or Moore can puzzle out the magic here. It's just too hidden, too obscured.
<Lucy> "Did anyone bring some rope?"
> "I have rope."
* Veren reaches into his pack and produces it.
<Moore> "I have the magic one." Moore says as he withdraws the 50ft of it.
<Lucy> "I propose you two connect to each other with one and then Moore flies over to fetch the harp."
<Pepo> Reluctantly Pepo expends one of his precious power points in order to study the magic holding the bridge up.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18-6 psicraft
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 14 > 12 [d20=2]
<Moore> Moore nods. "Sure, that sounds fine."
<Pepo> 'The bridge is definitely unsound, but I cannot determine the failure point of the magic holding it up,' Pepo says, even as everyone seems to have figured it out already.
<Kotono> No good. The magic just isn't being cooperative to study.
<Moore> Moore will get to tying the rope around himself snugly and then to the other rope just in case before getting ready to fly across!
* Veren moves to help Moore.
<Moore> Moore will fly across to get the harp and hopefully not die in the process!
<Kotono> Moore flies to the harp. That goes without incident. On getting the harp, suddenly the lava below begins to stir and churn. For just a moment, before erupting up fast as the eye can see! OOC: You have incoming lava. May want to work fast here not to get burned to cinders, y'all.
* Veren begins reeling Moore in!
<Lucy> "Run!"
<Moore> Moore doesn't need any hesitation and will just start flying as fast as he can back to the others!
* Lucy doesn't linger after seeing that her order is heard! She heads back down the path they took at a dash!
<Pepo> Pepo manifests a wall of ice above the lava facing downwards to hopefully buy a few extra seconds for Moore. For himself he just turns and runs back the way they came! The bear doing likewise.
<Kotono> OOC: What's your movement speeds, all? Whatever mode of movement you're using to escape.
* Veren sees Moore doesn't need his help and tries to gather the rope and follows Lucy!
<Veren > OOC: 30 ft.
<Moore> OOC: 60ft fly, good
<Pepo> OOC: speed 40, running. Bear is speed 40 and doing the same.
<Lucy> OOC: 30ft. I'm running at x4, I believe?
<Kotono> The party makes haste, running down as gushing lava follows! Down the ladder they go, lava behind them. OOC: Dex checks here, all. For each 10ft your mode of movement is above 30ft, +2 bonus. This is base movement, don't worry about what your movement is when you're running or whatever.
<Moore> OOC: It won't matter for this, but I'm going to change the aura back to the Dexterity one while we're running.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+6+2 Pepo
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 12 > 12 [d20=4]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+1+2 bear
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=8]
<Moore> roll 1d20+4+6
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 12 > 12 [d20=2]
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 19 > 12 [d20=15]
> roll 1d20+5 Dex Check
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 7 > 12 [d20=2]
<Kotono> roll 1d6 damage all but Lucy ,more coming
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 5 > 12 [d6=5]
<Kotono> The party starts running down the steep incline. Lucy makes excellent time as she flees, but the others stumble. They end up crashing together in a sprawled out heap, a nasty impact as they try and flee. OOC: Going to keep running or stop to try and help your tripped up allies, Lucy? Need to know that first of all.
<Kotono> OOC: Noted Moore.
<Kotono> OOC: Lucy?
<Lucy> She narrowly escaped the pileup by being in the lead, but Lucy pauses just long enough to turn around and pull Pepo out of that mess. She can hardly bring Moore and Veren, tied as they are together, so that's all she can do here.
<Kotono> OOC: Grabbing him and keeping on running?
<Pepo> If Lucy is carrying him then Pepo can devote his attention to forming another ice wall behind the pile-up to give them a better chance!
<Lucy> OOC: Yep
<Kotono> Lucy grabs Pepo as a wall of ice appears behind the party. OOC: The rest of you can get u and keep running as you please. Or act, but it'll slow you down a tad, so make sure it's worth it.
* Veren stands up and continues to run!
<Moore> Moore will try and get out by flying and not trip up Veren again!
<Kotono> OOC: Also using motivate dex, Moore?
<Moore> OOC: Yes.
<Kotono> The party runs faster, trying to avoid the onrushing lava. Behind them, the lava hits the ice wall, slowing only a few moments before it's reduced to a gush of steam. OOC: Dex checks again, all. Same mods as last time and now include Moore's bonus.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4+8
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 19 > 12 [d20=7]
<Moore> roll 1d20+4+6+8
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 32 > 12 [d20=14]
<Veren > OOC: It's +8?
<Kotono> OOC: Yes.
<Moore> OOC: Yes.
<Veren > roll 1d20+5+8 Dex Check
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 20 > 12 [d20=7]
<Kotono> roll 1d3
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 1 > 12 [d3=1]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+1+2 bear
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 17 > 12 [d20=14]
<Kotono> The party rushes on, past the slope and to the longer passage leading back towards the curtains. But it's here that an eruption of rock and a jet of lava explodes out in front of Lucy and Pepo. OOC: Ref you two, first of all.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+13 evasion
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=8]
<Lucy> roll 1d20+8
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 28 > 12 [d20=20]
<Kotono> roll 3d6+1d6 (3d6 is fire and 1d6 is bludgeoning) Lucy half, Pepo none
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 17 > 12 [d6=5,6,4,2]
<Lucy> OOC: My fire res eats up the fire, 1 bludgeoning damage
<Kotono> OW! Lucy gets beaned by a stray rock, enough to make her wince. Nonetheless she keeps going. Meanwhile, the others are struggling to keep up, barely ahead of the lava. Heat bastes them as they run. As they do, the jet falls and the floor cracks. There's a small gap now, glowing with lava. They'll need to jump it! OOC: Ref you two+bear. 1d6 fire damage incoming.
<Kotono> roll 1d6 fire
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 5 > 12 [d6=5]
<Moore> OOC: Do I need to jump since I'm flying?
<Kotono> OOC: You're off the hook then.
<Veren > OOC: What's your song bonus to ref? 8 also?
<Moore> OOC: It's just to Dex-checks
<Kotono> OOC: I'm sorry, strike that.
<Kotono> OOC: It's acrobatics checks, not ref saves.
<Kotono> OOC: Since it's basically a jump check.
<Moore> OOC: Oh, well then I guess it would be +8
<Pepo> roll 1d20+1+2 bear
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=12]
<Veren > roll 1d20+11+8 Acrobatics
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 37 > 12 [d20=18]
<Kotono> Veren vaults the gap without pausing as Moore flies over. But the bear isn't so fast - he half trips and does  a faceplant into the lava. He bursts afire before dissolving into purple smoke. On the party runs, fast as they can. OOC: Doesn't have the HP to survive lava exposure so he's just toast. Another round of ref saves, all. Same mods as the last two.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+13 evasion
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 27 > 12 [d20=14]
<Kotono> OOC: Dex checks, dur.
<Kotono> OOC: I don't know why I want everything to be ref saves today.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4+8
<Veren > roll 1d20+5+8 Dex Check
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 13 > 12 [d20=1]
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 16 > 12 [d20=3]
<Moore> roll 1d20+4+6+8
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 36 > 12 [d20=18]
<Kotono> Moore zips along. He starts to pull ahead of the fire, out of the hot zone. Veren isn't so lucky, still being scorched. Meanwhile, Lucy ahead trips on a stray rock and does a faceplant dead down! Only Pepo's superior reflexes lets him roll out of the way and onto Lucy's back, avoiding being smashed. OOC: Damage for both incoming, sec and more lining.
<Kotono> roll 1d6 fire Veren
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 2 > 12 [d6=2]
<Kotono> roll 1d6 faceplant Lucy
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 2 > 12 [d6=2]
<Kotono> Lucy down! Lucy down! Veren catches up at least as Moore jets ahead. The lava's catching up in that moment as Lucy's down! Do something! OOC: Anyone going to stop and help Lucy or are you going to keep going?
<Pepo> A cat always lands on his feet! And while the others have to pick themselves up, Pepo produces another ice wall to try and slow the lava down just a bit more before turning and bolting after Moore!
<Veren > OOC: I will.
<Moore> OOC: How close are we to each other? I want to cast haste on Lucy and Veren, but I don't know if we're close enough to also get it.
<Kotono> OOC: You could, sure, but you'd have to stop running a second.
* Veren catches up to Lucy and tries to help her back to her feet!
<Lucy> How ridiculous, that someone as perfect and flawless as herself would trip-- Lucy takes off anew, using Veren's help to build up a running start!
<Kotono> OOC: Going to haste, Moore?
<Moore> OOC: That's fine.
<Kotono> OOC: Yes or no?
<Moore> OOC: Yes, I am going to cast Haste.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, do so IC real quick.
<Moore> "Come on, let's not die to some stupid lava!" Moore calls out as he throws a Haste onto his allies to make sure they can get out!
<Kotono> Speed! Haste speeds everyone up! The lava's within 10ft as you get that, the party rushing on as another wall of ice dies. The heat bastes everyone, but it's enough to start making a cleaner getaway. Down the party races, past it all and to the opening gate with the runic puzzle your brute forced. But then...OOC: Some more fire damage for being so close to lava first then another line.
<Kotono> roll 2d6 fire damage all
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 6 > 12 [d6=2,4]
<Kotono> The ground starts to shake! Earthquake! The cave above you is shuddering, small hunks of stone falling. EARTHQUAKE! OOC: Ref saves, all, Don't wanna fail this one.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+14 evasion
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=7]
<Lucy> roll 1d20+8
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=13]
<Moore> roll 1d20+11
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 17 > 12 [d20=6]
<Veren > roll 1d20+14+4 Ref save/Inspiration
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 31 > 12 [d20=13]
<Moore> OOC: I forgot the +1 from Haste for the save, if that matters
<Kotono> The party races on, but a bit of rock from above grazes Moore. It's enough to send him down as the others burst into the glow light. Ahead you can see the forest is on fire and hunks of burning rock rain down, but that's not your immediate problem. The lava's rushing ahead - and Moore's down. It's coming on him FAST! OOC: Anyone going to risk it by going in to help him, first of all?
<Veren > OOC: I will!
* Veren moves to help Moore clear the lava!
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Ref saves you two, then. Good luck.
<Pepo> Pepo takes a second to produce another ice wall in the lava's path!
<Kotono> OOC: +2 bonus with Pepo's wall.
<Moore> OOC: Can I forego my reflex save to use my ability to grant a move action to Veren?
<Lucy> "I will prepare the ship for swift departure!" Lucy calls over, teleporting!
<Moore> OOC: *forego
<Kotono> OOC: Yes, but you'll be a sitting duck for the lava.
<Moore> OOC: Okay.
<Kotono> OOC: Over into #evildunes, Lucy.
<Veren > roll 1d20+14+4+1+2 Ref save/Inspiration/Haste/Wall
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 38 > 12 [d20=17]
<Moore> "Ack! Veren, don't panic, just grab me and let's go!" Moore calls out, inspiring Veren to move! OOC: Extra move action
<Kotono> roll 5d6 fire damage both of you full but nothing else
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d6=4,4,6,2,6]
<Kotono> OOC: #evildunes for logging, Veren?
<Kotono> The heat is intense and miserable. Veren and Moore are in agony as they run, cooking by the moment. By they bound out a few steps ahead of the lava - which gushes out straight ahead instead of the direction of the path, raining down on the burning forest instead of the heroes! OOC: Free act for the moment, but note the eruption all around you. May want to do something fast, since baaad things
<Kotono> are happening.
<Veren > "Back to the ship!"
<Pepo> Pepo just runs like a cat out of hell, straight for the beach and the boat!
<Moore> "You don't have to tell me twice!" Moore exclaims, trying to pat some of the fire off on himself as he flies along!
<Kotono> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 20 > 12 [d100=20]
<Kotono> roll 1d3
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 1 > 12 [d3=1]
<Kotono> OOC: Fort saves all, first of all.
<Veren > roll 1d20+6+4 Fort/Inspiration
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 18 > 12 [d20=8]
<Moore> roll 1d20+5
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 10 > 12 [d20=5]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+9
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 13 > 12 [d20=4]
<Kotono> roll 1d6 nonlethal damage Moore and Pepo, Veren made the save
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 4 > 12 [d6=4]
<Kotono> The forest is smoky and choking. The trio can barely breathe as they stumble through it. It's a hellscape as...
<Kotono> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 14 > 12 [d100=14]
<Kotono> roll 1d3 1 Pepo 2 Moore 3 Veren
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 2 > 12 [d3=2]
<Moore> OOC: Figures
<Veren > OOC: I have 5 HP.
<Kotono> From above, there's a loud crash as burning braches are sent plummeting down via a hunk of flaming rock. The mass of destruction is heading right at Moore! OOC: Ref save, Moore. G'luck.
<Moore> roll 1d20+11
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=10]
<Moore> OOC: Wait, that's +1 more because of Haste which I think should still be on. If it matters.
<Kotono> roll 3d6+3d6 (first 3d6 is fire, second is bludgeoning) Moore half
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 8 > 12 [d6=2,1,1,1,1,2]
<Kotono> OOC: You lucky fucking dog.
<Kotono> But Moore is just fast enough, only getting whipped by a burning branch across the back. He stumbles, barely up, but keeps moving. On the party races, to the beach! The ship is a mere 100ft away from here, but 20ft ahead? The sands explode out! Amid the burning sandscape, shards of melting sand turning to glass before your eyes, is a long, tall worm. It reaches a good 30ft up into the air, a
<Kotono> deep sandy color. It has a mouth full of pincers! It leans forward, trying to get the heroes dead on! OOC: Init here.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+6+8
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 25 > 12 [d20=11]
<Moore> roll 1d20+5+8
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 33 > 12 [d20=20]
<Veren > roll 1d20+4+8 Init
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 20 > 12 [d20=8]
<Kotono> roll 1d20+4 sandworm surprise
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 18 > 12 [d20=14]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Pepo(25)>Veren(20)>Sandworm(18) '
* Kotono changes topic to 'Moore(33)>Pepo(25)>Veren(20)>Sandworm(18) '
<Kotono> OOC: Sec, waiting for Lucy's reaction in #evildunes.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 6 > 12 [d20=2]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Moore(33)>Pepo(25)>Veren(20)>Sandworm(18)>Lucy(6) '
<Kotono> roll 1d20+6 Kamhoff
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 25 > 12 [d20=19]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Moore(33)>Pepo=Kamhoff(25)>Veren(20)>Sandworm(18)>Lucy(6) '
<Kotono> OOC: Open Moore.
<Moore> "Don't think about fighting this, just run! Run!" Moore cries out, inspiring his allies to all get their feet moving before he vanishes from sight and starts to fly around the worm! OOC: So I'm using my items to give everyone 1 movement action, turning invisible, then flying 90 ft. towards the boat with a large arc around the worm so it hopefully can't get me if it can somehow see me.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay.
<Moore> OOC: If Haste if off then 60ft.
<Kotono> Moore flies around as inspiration hits the party, making it the majority of the way to the ship. OOC: Move action, you two.
<Pepo> Pepo moves forty feet diagonally to the shore-side and past the worm.
* Veren moves to avoid the worm, trying to get a clean line to run dead to the boat!
<Kotono> OOC: With Pepo or on a different angle/path?
<Veren > OOC: I'll move with Pepo, but I'm not as fast as him. I'll be 10 ft. behind I think.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay.
<Kotono> OOC: Pepo, you're up now. Go kitty.
<Pepo> OOC: what size category is the worm?
<Kotono> OOC: At least huge. No idea how much is below.
<Pepo> Not wanting the worm to come bother them while they're sailing away, Pepo casts it forward in time before moving another forty feet towards the boat. Assuming it's not bigger than he thinks it is...
<Pepo> roll 1d100 5+ wild surge
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 96 > 12 [d100=96]
<Pepo> OOC: DC 20 will, time hop augmented 4pp, hits huge or smaller forward 9 rounds
<Kotono> Unfortunately, the worm just feels too big. It's not moving at all. He's now 40ft from the boat at least. Meanwhile, Kamhoff comes to the railing and gives the worm the old middle finger, "Hey wormy? FUCK YOU!" he cries, five magic missiles flying at it.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+11 (+2 SP)
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 13 > 12 [d20=2]
<Kotono> But the missiles wink out when they hit the worm, producing another storm of obscenity. OOC: Veren.
<Veren > OOC: How much would it slow me down to scoop up Pepo as I run?
<Kotono> OOC: A bit. It would use your standard action, so you'd only move as much as a move action would move you, rather than a full run's multiplier.
* Veren sets into a dead run, knowing he's too hurt to be of any use against the worm, and heads straight for the boat!
<Kotono> OOC: Movement speed?
<Veren > OOC: Run x3, 90 ft., 30 ft. base.
<Kotono> With a bolt of pure panic and speed, Veren runs to the boat. He just reaches the gangplank, a leap landing him on the ship. Then the sandworm looks around...and focuses only on Pepo, before rearing back and emitting a storm of flensing sand. OOC: Unfortunately you're the only target it can perceive, and it's a vicious enough piece of work to go after a cat. (Also it can figure out you psioniced
<Kotono> it). REf save, Pepo.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+13 evasion
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=2]
<Moore> OOC: I'm going to use my items to give Pepo a +5 to his save if I can.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Which item?
<Moore> OOC: It's the 2-set bonus from the Regalia of the Hero.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, immediate. Just had to check. That bumps it up to 20 and that means evasion kicks in. Congratulations, you probably saved Pepo's life.
<Kotono> But Moore calls out at the last moment, a desperate warning. It alerts Pepo and he leaps to the side, avoiding a storm of razor-like sand. OOC: Lucy.
<Kotono> OOC: Strike, Neph pointed out you aren't in range.
<Kotono> roll 12d6 slashing damage full ow hope low
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 44 > 12 [d6=3,5,5,5,1,5,3,2,2,1,6,6]
<Kotono> The flensing storm of sand shreds Pepo. He's cut all over, black coat shredded and body sliced. He's bleeding tremendously, but he's still up. Barely. OOC: Lucy.
<Lucy> It would probably be futile to try and kill it since she would need to actually stay here long enough, but Lucy wants the worm to remember her all the same. And what better way to achieve that than sending eight magical missiles its way?
<Lucy> roll 1d20+8 SR1
<Lucy> roll 1d20+8 SR2
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 17 > 12 [d20=9]
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 9 > 12 [d20=1]
<Kotono> But all the missiles crumble before the bastard of a worm. Then...
<Kotono> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 44 > 12 [d100=44]
<Kotono> The ground shakes and quakes all over! The boat only rocks back and forth, but Pepo and the worm in the ground are tossed about. OOC: Ref you two.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+5 worm
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 18 > 12 [d20=13]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Moore(33)>Pepo=Kamhoff(25)>Veren(20)>Sandworm(18 prone)>Lucy(6) '
<Pepo> roll 1d20+13 evasion
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 24 > 12 [d20=11]
<Kotono> The worm goes down! It crashes down towards the forest, hard. As its head is burned, Pepo manages to keep his footing. OOC: Moore, go.
<Moore> OOC: How close am I actually to it?
<Moore> OOC: the sjhip
<Moore> OOC: shiiiiiip
<Kotono> OOC: 40ft away.
<Moore> Moore flies over to the ship and will try and cast detect magic on the harp he grabbed to see if it can somehow be of help against this worm!
<Kotono> Moore lands in a heap, starting on the harp. OOC: It might or might be, but figuring it out will take longer than this combat, most likely. Let me hold on that a sec. Go Pepo.
<Pepo> Pepo tries to give the worm a fascination with lava before he runs the rest of the way and takes cover inside the boat, reduced to nothing more than an ordinary housecat!
<Pepo> OOC: DC 18 attraction
<Kotono> roll 1d20+6 Will
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d20=16]
<Kotono> But Pepo makes it to the boat as the worm resist. But it hardly matters, for, "We're getting the FUCK out of here!" Kamhoff shouts at the top of his lungs. Jetina manages to pull in the gangplank with Lucy's help, as the ship sails away. Behind you, the party is able to see the mountain shudder as more and more lava explodes out, until there is a blinding flash of light. When it clears, your
<Kotono> ears ring with a half-heard rumbling. The island is gone, only your boat, supplies and harp to prove it was ever even there. OOC: We'll pause there. Hell of a close call.

Session Start: Wed Nov 19 14:25:52 2014
Session Ident: #evildunes
* Now talking in #evildunes
* Topic is 'Pepo(27)>Lucy(23)>Veren(16)>Moore(15)>Arrower(9) '
* Set by Kotono on Mon Nov 17 13:30:05
<Kotono> Lucy appears on the ship. Kamhoff is there, arms crossed as he watches ahead. Ahead, you can see the mountain is exploding, a massive eruption. Bolethon is at the wheel, waiting, while Jetina looks on with her lips pursed and hands held to her chest.
<Lucy> "Outstanding, isn't it?" Lucy mentions, appearing on the deck next to Kamhoff and staring at the erupting volcano.
<Kotono> "Oh, you're alive? Beats the last crew," Kamhoff remarks casually, staring at it, "What about the others?"
<Lucy> "They're on their way," Lucy informs him. "We must leave as soon as they're onboard, so any final preparation should truly take place now. And really, you can't possibly think I would allow this entirely coincidental and mysterious island-destroying eruption to take place if it would also kill them, can you, Mister Kamhoff?"
<Kotono> "Eh." He shrugs, "Fucking capital, good enough for me. We've been ready, I k now how this song and dance ends."
<Lucy> "Still, I am quite certain nothing will happen to the island of uptight and prudish mages! We will surely spend more than one night over!"
<Kotono> "Eh." Kamhoff shrugs again, "Say Bolethon, ten gold bet with 5 to 1 odds we don't blow up Hillmar. You want in on that action?"
<Kotono> Bolethon's empty gaze is on the glow ahead, "A path of fools," he retorts.
<Lucy> "I'm putting down ten gold, if only because it is fun!" Lucy tilts her head. "I suppose it would be fun either way. This was certainly exciting!"
<Kotono> "You're on," AS Kamhoff says that, Jetina points out, "L-look!" Out on the beach, 100ft from the ship, you can see a sandworm rise from the beach. Just past it at the three heroes, battered but still trying to escape.
<Lucy> Laughing at the sight, Lucy assaults the worm with all the magical missiles she can send at it!
<Kotono> OOC: Go ahead and join #dunes, roll init there.
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
